>You are normally a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. Today, however, you... aren't. The first option of today's thread will, effectively, be "who are you?"

>Ellen has been captured and imprisoned a country away from your current location, but that doesn't mean vital plot elements aren't continuing.

>The questmasters are Octoling (myself), and Grandflaw. There's no particular rhyme or reason to who posts when, and sometimes one of us might not appear all.

>Character Death is always a possibility (this is Fire Emblem after all), but your actions can very easily influence who lives and who dies.

As mentioned, you aren't Ellen today, but instead someone who didn't run off into an ambush. A meeting with the Vautou and their leader, the rogue Deadlord Simia, is still looming after the likes of Cheryl, Mitchell, and a bishop named Maria arranged it, and you will begin the morning after Ellen, Quidel, Mimon, Yancy, and Katina's disappearance.

Whose perspective shall this side of events be from?

>A. Stefyn, a myrmidon with a desire to redeem his past cowardice and villainy.
>B. Garrus, the axe-wielding crown prince of Neir.
>C. Zoe, a pegasus knight and close friend of Ellen's
>D. Gorman, a Hero in his own right and mentor of Ellen

The real question is, are we huge enough to completely escape prison and rescue the magician general's twin children, while mediating between two hostile individuals, continuing to surprise the bespectacled brother of a potential love interest, and not getting knocked out of unconscious near the end of it all?

Personally, I believe we'll get through everything but the last obstacle. We will get knocked out cold after we escape.
>>
>>41876778
And as some would suggest, after being knocked out you would be thrown into literal hell, every single main character is dead offscreen, and you would be railroaded through my magical realm for the next 100 threads.

Your perspective changes from murderer of childhood friends to murderer of childhood friends. Time shifts back. Were this in a visual medium, a subtitle saying "that morning, Elza Oasis" would appear now.

This bed is nice and soft, but you still weren't able to get all that much sleep. You don't sleep much anyway, but yesterday in particular you were... worried.

Sure, Mitchell got back fine, but Ellen, Quidel, Biff's brother, and even Katina and her super-powerful bodyguard are just... gone. That Logan guy blames himself, as does Katina's poor mother, but they were both in a meeting at the time!

You can't even imagine how much more stressed everyone who was actually friends or family of the missing persons must be, but at least you were able to get a couple hours of unrestful shuteye after a restless Dama came to provide you some company.

Now she's curled up in literally all of your blankets and sheets, but you didn't exactly have the heart to fight this anyway.

Dama doesn't usually seem so... well, at ease. Employing your myrmidonly swiftness and lack of lumbering, you attempt to rise up without disturbing your... What is she to you, exactly?

You don't want to jump to conclusions, so you resolve not to think about it until you can actually talk about this with her. For now, you take to quietly going through your morning routine, suiting up, wearing your killing edge at your side.

Looking out the window of the Tower of Longevity is enough to tell you why your companion isn't quite awake yet: it's still just the break of dawn, the night sky just barely being drowned out by the rising sun.

You're all expected to head out to the edge of town first thing in the morning, just about.

So we're still going to have Ellen hate his guts even if we learn something from playing as him since it's IC for Ellen right?
>>
>>41877492
We indirectly (that's my story and I'm keeping it) killed the love interest of a love interest and killed a love rival and kept on alive. If Ellen reflects and assumes all this, I say she has learned something similar.

Gently, you nudge the wolf, whispering her name.

She growls and you recoil. "Sorry about that..."

"Nngh... What time is it?"

"Sorry, I just... Felt like getting a headstart on getting to where we're supposed to. I didn't want to leave you in here after... Yeah..."

"Thanks." Despite the tired, uninterested tone of her response, you're sure she's sincere. She seems the type who would be stressed out by suddenly being left alone, even with the most benign of explanations. You try to ignore the fact that a lot of dogs are like that, too. This is already a bit awkward as it is without further comparisons like that.

Anyway, Dama gets herself thrown together quickly, stretching and yawning.

You find yourself deciding to see if there's anywhere in Elza Oasis where you and Dama can have a quick breakfast, since you're up earlier than necessary anyway.

"I'll pay if you... promise not to eat enough to bankrupt the army," you joke, and she agrees in good enough spirits to not overdo things.

Over breakfast somewhere close to where you're supposed to meet everyone else soon, and already on your third cup of coffee, Dama notices that something's on your mind. "I can tell when something's up, Stefyn."

Sighing, you ask, "er, don't take this the wrong way, but... what are we, exactly?"

Her head perks up a bit, asking you with a mouthful of food, "what d'you mean?"

"I-I mean that we've been hanging out a lot ever since we met, and I feel like we've gotten pretty close, and... And after all that..."

Dama nods a bit, swallowing her food, "go on."

"I-I just want to make sure we're on the same page about... Well, whatever we are to each other."

Teasingly yet bluntly, she asks, "this is just some pussyfooty way of saying you're falling for me, isn't it?"

"Of course! In the time we've come to know each other, you've just... I didn't want to make things weird by confessing sooner, but... I'm certain of it."

Dama actually turns a bit red as she responds, "and here I thought you wouldn't have the guts to be the first to admit it... I mean, if you couldn't bring yourself to after all that... I was this close to just spelling it out for you!"

"Then... why didn't you speak up earlier?"

"I wanted to see if you could do it!" Dama smiles, actually looking somewhat mischievous.

About a half an hour or so later, everyone else is actually by the edge of town. Dama hasn't left your side, being... almost embarrassingly affectionate (you keep stopping yourself short of "like a dog." Newfound girlfriend or not, it still feels strange to think about her characteristics in such a regard).

By default, the two of you end up hanging around Mitchell as you wait to head out. He doesn't comment on you two, in fact having known this was coming ages ago.

"How was arranging the meeting, Mitch?"

Mitchell quickly rattles it off. "Spoke to Clovis and his escorts, they went in to talk to Simia, he told us that Corneria and King Drasma should come by tomorrow."

"Speaking of Clovis... Uh, how, is he?"

"He seemed... well, upset about the recent passing of ex-chief Oiseau, but obviously he's still second-in-command of the Vautou and stuff."

Whispering to you, Dama says, "he seems on edge."

You quietly agree, asking, "er, Mitch, you alright, man?"

"Yeah, guess I'm just... bit sketchy on how the hell those five got nabbed. I doubt any old bandits of even bird-bandits could do that, which means... I figure someone was expecting them, someone told them to wander the desert like that, maybe even that Simia chick was around." After that, he adds, "just... all of you be careful, even if the Vautou won't be fighting us. We're probably expected by some other interlopers."

"Then we'll just actually get around to doing some damage to those guys!" Dama says enthusiastically and seriously.

"Yeah, you're strong and all, but don't be an idiot," Mitchell chides, "plus, Simia's a volatile sort. Even if no one interrupts the meeting, she might up and take something as a hint of attack and turn the whole Vautou Territory on us right in their headquarters. The entire Southernmost part of Heim is under their control, you know, 'cept for maybe the coast... But we shouldn't plan on sandwiching ourselves between pirates and Vautou."

Dama sighs. "I'll be careful."

"Thank you."

Soon enough, General Corneria is politely telling King Drasma that he should let her handle the actual negotiation and discussion, considering that they both know how quick he is to jump to the most violent solution, and she will NOT have anyone spoiling her chances to find whoever has her children. Dama ends up excusing herself to speak to Salia and Garrus, still distraught over the disappearance of Quidel and the rest just yesterday.

You decide to just spend your own time traveling talking with Mitchell, still not entirely certain how comfortable people besides your few close companions are with your presence.

"It's... still weird to think that this happened to Vale... I mean, I guess she's Simia now, but I don't know if I'll be able to keep the differences apart when it comes down to the wire."

"Stefyn, man, I get where you're coming from. Losing a student... sucks. But just... If all goes well, you won't be fighting her, so just keep from calling her her old name."

"I don't really like the way you say 'if all goes well,' Mitch."

"Okay, then, if it's too much for you, just... I don't know, do that thing you always do."

"Avoid confrontation?"

"Eheh, yeah, now you're getting it!"

You talk about more mundane things and take friendly potshots at yourself and... yourself.

Things don't go nearly as planned, however, as you approach the ancient temple that is now the Vautou chief's headquarters, sun beating down on your lot. Simia stands angrily and stares toward the leaders of your pack (which is to say Corneria and Logan, Drasma just a ways behind upon Khozen), sword already in her hand.

Yvette ends up walking forward along with the magical duo, noticing the ominousness of the Deadlord's stance.

"Oh, no way..." Mitchell says, as though he's realized something. "Clovis, you bastard."

"I bet he didn't say we were here for a meeting at all. He said whatever he could so he and his own guys could send Simia and anyone who supports her straight into a bunch of fights."

True to Mitchell's suggestion, Simia and several winged bandits start attacking the people in the front of the party, Simia herself squaring off with Yvette. Several of the guys surround King Drasma from all angles in the air.

You attempt to run closer to the situation with Mitchell, only to be separated and surrounded by feathered fiends.

About five or six surround you, attacking you in rapid succession to keep you disoriented and unable to check up on others. They're all wielding some sort of dagger.

You keep playing defensively and light on your feet, unable to rely on brute strength or intimidation like some of your companions, instead biding your time and just making your best effort not to get stabbed.

Several arrows come flying your way, knocking two of your attackers out of the sky with a cry and scaring the other three or four off.

"Th-thanks, Mitch!" You wave in the direction of the arrows' shooter, continuing to get closer to the biggest threat of the bunch for the moment. You see your girlfriend, transformed, beating away anyone who tries to lay a hand on the princess as the pegasus sisters do the same. Garrus is keeping as much heat off of Yvette as possible as Corneria, that Maria girl, and Nat stand out of the action, throwing around a physic stave apiece whenever someone looks too hurt. They are protected by Logan's bael summons.

At one point, after you manage to disarm and scare off another one, Garrus says, "uh, hey, what's Mitchell running off towards?"

"Oh, no..."

"Wh-why oh no?"

You explain the probability of the other Deadlords drawing nearer, which Simia and Yvette hear just moments before Simia was about to take another swing.

"Wait, what?! H-how did they find out I was here!"

"Er, Mitchell thinks that your right hand, uh... Clovis..."

Simia growls. "He said he was taking our best birds to intercept you guys..."

Yvette responds, "we never once ran into him on the way here.

"Shit... Why didn't I realize? He said you guys were coming to get me! Everyone, change of tactics! Defend from everyone BUT these guys! If you see any of Second Wind Clovis' squadron, especially with other Deadlords, kill them on sight!"

The Vautou attacking your friends fall back, and generally both parties take to finding places around the temple to stand guard.

King Drasma lands, chugging a vulnerary. "By the gods, we've all been duped... The real fight has only just begun, thanks to the efforts of your thief friend."

"Y-yeah, I mean, if Deadlords and super-tough bandits are coming from that way, Stefyn, I don't know if you should..."

"I'm not going to run away when Mitchell needs me again!"

Garrus blinks. "Er, wasn't that last thing he needed you for, well, robbing my home castle?"

"You're missing the point entirely, Garrus!" Dama shouts out, "and I know you won't make it alone, Stefyn."

"I... I'm coming too, then."

"Prince Garrus, I cannot condone this," Yvette immediately responds.

"Then come along with us!" Drasma says, swooping down. "I for one look forward to another chance to square off against Deadlords!"

You, Drasma, Garrus, Dama, and Yvette head forward.

Quickly, you run into Mitchell, staring down a muscular-looking Vautou with a single earring. Behind and beside the birdman, more of them, as well as Tigris and a shadowey Halberdier you don't recognize, but are certain is also a Deadlord.

"Clovis! Think about what you're doing, who you're siding with!"

The muscular Vautou responds, "oh, I am, Mitchell! Why should some... Some interloper be allowed to rule simply because she came in and butchered Chief Oiseau? Only we should have control over ourselves, and Simia is not one of us. Get your knights to let us at her and I will rejoin those literal-minded cowards who bow to her."

"I wouldn't have the power to offer that even if I had any desire to."

"As the person with the MOST power, I can attest to our unwillingness. 'Dain gets Simia back' is the single possibility I want to avoid the most."

"Then Neir and all who support it are enemies of all true Vautou."

Clovis rushes forward with a dagger before the archer has time to react, but thankfully you're quicker on the draw, shoving Mitch out of the way. Garrus is the next to attack Clovis, taking him two-on-one as Yvette joins behind him.

Tigris and "Mus," as Tigris calls him, begin their own slow advances as the rest of your enemies fly forward, most outright ignoring your bunch to rush to the temple.

As you confront Tigris, you find yourself... engrossed in a flashback, triggered by his oddly familiar fighting style...

Nearly a year ago, you had just learned that Vale had been taken by bandits, and her father had confided in you alone that... That he was being extorted, forced to fight leading that very group, that he wasn't sure Gorman could make it.

"T-Tabat, I'm... That doesn't seem like the best of ideas."

He swung his battle-axe at you, deliberately missing by a few inches, and saying, "you... You should have been there. You swore to teach her, but what good did it do?!"

"Uh, s-sorry, sir... I really am..."

"Then make up for it. If I'm going to be damned for her sake, so are you. And if you refuse, if you betray me, if you let our motivations be known to anyone who doesn't know already... You can't just dodge my swings forever."

Something had... changed in him, almost overnight. Had these demons always been in this man who saved you from the mountains?

"You can't just dodge my swings forever, myrmidon!" Tigris' battle axe nearly knocks you back into the present, with you barely stepping back and avoiding as he embeds the thing in the ground with the sheer force of the swing.

"Stefyn, man, snap out of it!" Mitchell calls to you.

It's pretty obvious what they did to him anon, Stefyn knows about deadlords.

let's not bother talking to him

You don't hesitate now.

You CAN'T hesitate now.

Even knowing who this was, perhaps ESPECIALLY knowing who this is, you... you won't hesitate.

Mitchell gets a few arrows into Tigris, but it all pales in comparison to your own strike, managing to swiftly circumvent his armor and strike in spots that Tigris must... know are fatal.

"Of all the... rotten luck, for ways that whelp has messed up summoning us... I've forgotten nothing of who I was. I... regret nothing, however..."

The odd, purplish aura that surrounded the Deadlord vanishes, and the body hosting Tigris falls.

"D... Did I do that?" You glance around. Mus is fighting Dama, Drasma and his wyvern are nowhere to be seen, and Garrus and Yvette continue barely breaking even against the burly birdman.

Clovis suddenly stops and says, "peh, you Deadlords are really so weak? I can handle Simia myself, then. Forget your aid!" He then takes to the skies, following most of his henchmen.

Mus observes his situation and promptly runs like hell. It's unlikely you can catch up to him without flight or magically-attuned sand-steps, which all Deadlords seem to have as well.

I doubt Stefyn want's Vale to die, Even if she doesn't refer to "Vale" anymore.
>>
>>41882455

>>I've forgotten nothing of who I was. I... regret nothing, however...

Well, maybe Bolse messed up "Vale's" summoning, and she too remembers who she was all along?
>>
>>41882512
It'd make sense, She probably wish's she didn't remember though since no one came to rescue her huh?

ASSIST DAMA
>>
>>41882512
Simia has some trace of her past memories, but calling upon them deliberately makes her angry for reasons she can't place.

Simia's primary summoning flaw is/was that, since Bolse was completely inexperienced with Necromancy at the time, she wound up being basically a defiant teenager.

It's what cost him his hearing.
>>
>>41882531
You know, I wonder if her taking control of the Vautou is part of a ploy to gather up an army to go back to the Aum and to rescue Victoria. It could explain why she killed the Vautou's chief, and why she attack Gorman for his supplies.

My god we've figured out Octo's plan.....

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but you never know, there might be a twist thrown in to surprise us all.

After all, it might have been Dio all along.

You immediately head back, none of you having much desire to futilely chase after Mus and all of you having no real desire to let Clovis get your biggest key to saving your friends, onesided or otherwise.

By the time you get back, things have actually been pretty much resolved. Clovis is attempting to retreat with several of his followers, but Mitchell manages to shoot him out of the sky. You and Dama end up being the ones to haul him back to the temple, defeated, however.

"This went... surprisingly well, all things considered..." Garrus says.

"So, Mitch... How did you figure out that this was a setup by, uh..." You point out the guy you're carrying as you walk by a trail of axed-up bodies. Yvette figures those were the poor enemies of Drasma as he flew back towards the temple, and Clovis grins just slightly.

"When Simia was gonna attack us, that had to mean someone was... dishonest in the exchange of information, since Simia wouldn't have had a reason to pick a fight with us otherwise. Clovis here just happened to be in charge of relaying that message, and he and Oiseau were tight."

Fair enough.

Anyway, as you walk onwards, you actually see Khozen fly Northwest overhead, carrying the staff of Katri in his mouth.

Looking up, Garrus wonders, "huh. Where's dad going this fast? I hope he didn't decide to fly off on his own again..."

"That murdering bastard's already back on his feet?"

Yvette yanks Clovis out of you and Dama's hands, staring at him intensely and demanding, "what do you mean 'back on his feet?!'"

"Yeah, he was just... cutting my fellow True Vautou out of the sky with impunity. I wasn't going to allow such a thing to happen, especially with him right over the temple, and so... Amazing what you can't do when you cannot fly with your own body."

"But..." Garrus responds, "even then, dad wouldn't just... fly off like that. And Khozen would never abandon the rightful ruler of Neir, it's... O-oh no..."

"So you're saying that King Drasma is just..."

"And worse than that, apparently it means nothing to Khozen if the heir to the throne has long abandoned Neir."

Clovis responds obliviously, "wait, I'm kinda missing the point here..."

Practically screaming now, Yvette tells the birdman, "do you not understand the scale of what you have done?! Khozen and the Staff of Katri are as we speak delivering themselves to Lars, and consequently to the Dain empire!"

>To be continued next thread

I had a couple endpoints in mind, but this felt like the most appropriate one to actually stop at.

Next time, we'll be back to Ellen's prison adventures.

Thanks for playing. As always, follow us on twitter @qmgrandflocto, send us questions on http://ask.fm/qmgrandflocto and I'll be around to talk about shit in-thread awhile

Yes, this was the completely unavoidable demise. I just wasn't sure when or how it would happen, but the implications wrote themselves.
>>

>as we speak delivering themselves to Lars, and consequently to the Dain empire!"
Well you see Lars had a bit of an accident....SAY HELLO TO EMPRESS ELLEN RULER OF DAIN!
>>
>>41883484
Khozen will literally only let the person he deems as having birthright to rule Neir ride him, whether or not they're actually willing or deserving. He was actually outright hostile towards Garrus in the past, but I don't know if I actually ever brought that up in-thread.
>>
>>41883424
Guys... hear me out. But I got an idea on how to get everyone, including Ellen, out. All I need is a vulnerary, a wyvern, a fire spell, we got a devil sword, but I am going to need a rubber band, some duct tape, two to three paper clips, and a little time to MacGyver something out of nothing. I know it can work, guys.
>>
>>41883484
We're in a bad spot. Being trapped in that room. We're pigeon holed in there unless the prince doesn't have his entourage already there. Maybe busting out wasn't such a good idea?

It's okay. We already got the devil sword. We just need is a vulnerary, and a fire spell. We can get the wyvern when Khozen comes to pay the prince a vist.

Well I bet that Wyrmslayer Ellen just picked up will come in handy?
>>
>>41883614
Breaking out was a good idea. It's just naturally not going to be easy to pull off. Remember that help is still on the way.
>>41883635
Should he just consistently be the POV character until we get Ellen back to the rest of the knights, or should it be a vote every non-Ellen thread?
>>41883670
It takes awhile to travel an entire country. You should already be out by the time Khozen catches up to Lars.
>>
>>41883695
Nah do it like you were planning to.
>>
>>41883722
I only have a general plan for how to get the non-Ellen team from point A to point B. As you saw at the very start of this thread, that path could even star literally any character during a given part.
>>
>>41883768
The switching thing, Ellen then Stefyn then back to Ellen, Rinse and repeat.
>>
>>41883795
I think I'll just put it up to a vote again next knights thread. The likes of Reese, Logan, Nat (imagine being stuck as a healer in a combat-intensive chapter, though) Garrus, and much of the cast in general could benefit from a moment or two of POV.

Really, though, without Drasma. all living and available staff-wielding mentors for Natalie are magic-users. She could probably promote soon.
>>
>>41883970
Damnit, That means she can't go on the healer path? that sucks.
>>
>>41884010
Nat is... literally a healer. I was saying that the other magic-users she could realistically study with in the near future are a Sage (Corneria) and a Bishop (that Maria person who came along for pre-negotiation but didn't join the actual meeting)

Maybe Drasma got to her enough for her to try to be a war cleric. It's very unlikely, since Nat doesn't seem too physically strong, but who knows until the time comes to class up?
>>
>>41884079
Ahhh okay, Nevermind then.
>>
Is this the fourth FE quest?
>>
>>41883872
I wouldn't be too strongly opposed to being Nat, and experiencing the strangeness of her BF.
