RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/5q9fPFjz

You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

You squint as the last rays of the sun shine into your cockpit, temporarily blinding you with the glare. Thankfully, it would only be a few more minutes until it got dark, so you'd no longer have to worry about the sun, just the absolute darkness. You check your weapon status, which shows your regular missiles, XLAA, and standoff dispenser munitions were all in the green. You were a bit wary using these new weapons, since you had never tested them before. Somehow, Quint's assurances that they would work and including a "lifetime warranty" free of charge did nothing to encourage you.

Taking the rear position in your formation, you get a good look at your wingmates' loadouts. As usual, Lara was running a completely air to air focused loadout, concentrating on AA missiles. Lilian seemed to be carrying precision AGMs, which was fitting for her principled flying and attention to detail. Amy's Super Hornet, on the other hand, was toting large, bulky fuel air explosive bombs. Always the indiscriminate bomber, she was.

"Heh, looking good from down here, Amy!" You say teasingly. "Carrying a bigger load than usual!"

"Ha ha, why don't you keep an eye on your radar rather than my bird's ass?" Amy retorts. "Those bastards wrecked by poor Hog, so a little payback is in order!"

"Hey, I'm all for purging OB with fire." You say in agreement. "No protest from me."

"I still think FAEs are rather... crude weapons." Lilian says disapprovingly. "They make no distinction between friend and foe and are completely indiscriminate."

"Oh I'm definitely gonna indiscriminate them!" Amy chuckles diabolically.

Sometimes you wonder if that girl's got issues, and then you remember the line of work you're involved in.

"Honestly..." Lilian sighs.

"So, Angel." You say, changing the subject. "How did your 'private time' with Shiba go?"

"W-w-w-what?!" Lilian stammers.

"Private time?" Lara asked, a bit confused.

"Ohohoho, this I gotta hear!" Amy chuckles.

"Oh, come on, when I left, I saw you and Shiba getting pretty intimate!" You tease. It wasn't totally true, but it's not like Lara and Amy would know any better. "Did you use my little present?"

"O-of course not!" Lilian says denial. You can almost picture her cockpit heating up from the embarrassment. "Why would I use something like that?!"

"Oh? So he likes it raw then? You pretty daring, Angel!" You laugh. "What if he shoots his cannon inside?"

"Hahaah, holy shit!" Amy laughs.

"Wait, can someone explain what's going on?" Lara asks, utterly confused.

Lilian, meanwhile, doesn't respond so much in words rather than a nonverbal choking sound over the radio.

You briefly consider continuing to tease Lilian, but then reconsider. You think she's been the victim of enough abuse, plus you didn't want her getting too flustered right before a mission.

"Ah, I'm just messing with you, Angel. You don't have to tell me anything." You laugh.

"Dang, I wanted to hear details." Amy grumbles.

"Now now, Amy, you can learn the intricacies of romance from better sources." You chide.

"Bah."

"Um, so... what just happened?" Lara asks, confused.

"We'll explain it to you when you're older, Stripes." You laugh.

"You girls talk about the weirdest things, you know that?" Loki sighs.

"W-wait, YOU HEARD ALL THAT, LOKI?!" Lilian gasps.

"How can I not? You're all still keyed onto my frequency!" Loki explains.

"Ooops." You say with zero concern.

Lilian once again breaks down into nonverbal blubbering.

"Children, all of you." Loki continues with exasperation. "It's always something with this squadron."

"Well, you wouldn't be interrupting us if you didn't think it was important." You grunt. "So what's the situation?"

"I'm picking up two contacts on radar. Most likely Flankers. My guess is that they're a CAP flight. They're radiating and making no secret they're up there." Loki warns. "I suggest you either take them out or bypass them."

"Flying around is going to add a lot of flight time..." You frown.

"We can try going under them. Fly nap of the earth." Amy suggests. "The terrain below us is uneven enough to mask our approach."

That was true, but it was also a dangerous tactic, even in daylight.

"But if take em out they won't be a problem later!" Lara whines, eager to jump in on some action.

"We'll fly NOE and try to sneak past them." You say. "If we take them down now, we might tip off OB to our presence."

"Awwwwwww." Lara whines.

"It's the most prudent course of action." Lilian agrees, having finally regained her shaky composure.

"All right! Just follow me!" Amy says cheerfully as her Super Hornet dives for the deck.

Lara's Eagle and Lilian's Typhoon both quickly follow suit and not wanting to be left behind, you push your stick forward and nose your own Eagle down.

At this point in your flying career, flying NOE was practically a required skill. However, that didn't necessarily mean you were an expert at it, nor did that mean you actually liked doing it. NOE flights were harrowing enough in the day, but you could at least SEE the terrain. At night, you're restricted to just your instruments and your nightvision. Thankfully, the terrain is rather forgiving, with few steep hills or cliffs to have to make quick maneuvers around. Amy in the lead also helps, as you can take her cues whenever she maneuvers to avoid an obstacle, the twin flares of her Super Hornet's engines providing a guiding light for you.

"All right, it looks like you're past them. They don't even know you're there." Loki says, impressed. "The first of the camps should be coming up right now. Just remember, once you hit them, all hell is going to break loose."

"How about if we hit all three at once? We have three planes with ground attack munitions." Lilian suggests. "A single alpha strike would mean we could escape before any serious opposition arrives."

"That sounds kinda dangerous, splitting up like that." Amy says skeptically.

"All right, here's how we do it." You say. "Me, Angel, and Magnet each take a camp and wreck it. Stripes will stay on overwatch to keep an eye for enemy birds. Everybody got it?"

"Roger!" Your squadmates affirm.

Your flight breaks off from a straight approach to the nearest camp and instead fly a little to the west on a parallel track with the line of camps, intending to split up when you're all equal distance from the camps, to guarantee you hit simultaneously for maximum surprise.

"All right, girls. Good luck." You say as you pick the center camp to attack.

"You too!" Lilian says as she breaks off to the left.

"Pffft, like I need luck." Amy boasts as she turns for the right camp.

"Well, just call if you need me." Lara sighs, absolutely bored.

"Don't worry, Stripes, I'm sure you'll get some action." You laugh as you pick up speed. Up ahead, you can see the lights of the camp in the distance. You switch to your IR view and frown. For what was supposed to be a camp to smuggle fighters across the border, you noticed there was a large amount of heavy equipment being moved around...

Fishy things are going on. Of course.

If it's invasion preparation with tanks and things, that's one thing.
If it's excavation of another of Peace Vaults, it's another.
If it's civilian operation and Intelligence failed in mission briefing, that's third, horrible thing.

I am for learning a bit more of stuff that's happening and possibly not committing war crimes that would be used by One Belka to justify worse.

And they light up on your IR, right as day. Jet engines. Dozens of them. Your mouth goes dry as you see rows of fighters lined up on temporary airfields bulldozed into the sand. You see heavy duty SAM launchers being set up, pointing towards the Belkan border.

However, the odd thing was that you didn't see any bomber or attack craft. They were all pure or multi-role fighters, and from the stacks of munitions stored near them, they were being loaded with a pure AA armament. The only thing you could think of was that they were going to flying air cover for something, but for what?

And it clearly involved the Belkan border. Were they going to escort something over it, or the other way around?

You consider reporting your findings to Loki right away, but another part of your mind fears that doing so would tip off your presence here. Anyways, it wouldn't matter if this whole place was a crater in the ground, anyways.

You put your Eagle in a tight turn in an effort to come around on another pass. No time to send a warning, you were just going to have to burn this whole damn camp to the ground. You arm your SODs. Sensing your weapon selection, your HUD switches to look down mode and starts painting potential targets. Your most immediate concerns were the clusters of planes and the SAM sites scattered around the base. You were in a bit of a bind here. You could only fire off two SODs at the time. You could probably destroy all the planes in one pass, but you'd be vulnerable to the SAMs, regardless of whether you tried to break away or reengage. If you focused on the SAMs, it could give the planes time to take off.

You decide to take aim for the clusters of planes. The SAMs would be dangerous to you, but those planes would be dangerous to practically anybody if they managed to take off. You fire off your two ready and waiting SODs, the fat missiles disengaging from your wings and deploying their own little wings as they glide towards their targets.

Unfortunately, your SODs overshoot your intended target slightly. You first one glides over the front rank of planes before opening up and vomiting out hundreds of deadly little submunitions which home in on the nearest heat sources, which are the idling engines or the planes below. Explosions ripple along the line of grounded planes, tearing Flankers and Fulcrums to pieces like burnt paper. Your second SOD flies past the main cluster of planes, deploying near the back where it destroys about four planes while scattering explosives all across a small complex of temporary trailer buildings, and a couple of fuel tankers. As you shoot past, you can see easily about 2/3s of the planes either in flames or blocked from being able to take off, while the six Flankers in the front of the formation begin powering up their engines for emergency takeoff.

Meanwhile, your radar warning receiver screams as SAM radars light up in an attempt to target you.

Well, with the majority of the planes toast and a big chunk of the camp going up in flames, you figure that the fire would eventually reach a fuel dump or stocked munitions, which would pretty much take out the rest of the camp. And even if those Flankers could take off, it's not like they had anywhere to land at anymore.

However, the scream of your RWR was still rather concerning. You hit your afterburners in an attempt to bug out before they could retaliate.

Thankfully, you fly fast and low enough that the camp's SAM sites can't get a lock on you in time before you're out of their effective range. You give a huge sigh as you lean back in your seat.

"Angel, Magnet, my camp's toast. How are you two doing?" You ask over the radio.

"I managed to eliminate what looked to be a few tankers and an AWACS plane." Lilian reports. "Not sure what they were there for, through."

"Um I didn't really check what I was bombing." Amy admits. You glance off to where Amy's camp was and only saw a massive conflagration even larger than the one you caused. Those FAEs were not something to be messed with.

"Looks like you three had a lot of fun." Lara grumbles.

"Well, it looks like you may have some action, yet." Loki grunts. "My screen is lighting up like a Christmas tree! Contacts are converging on your position, fast!"

"Can we make it back to the Pillar?" You ask.

"I'm not sure. You're certainly going to have to fight or sneak your way through." Loki says grimly. "There's at least four squadrons in the air and more showing up by the minute. I think it might be a good idea to flee across the Belkan border."

"All right girls, just follow me close." Amy says as she drops her Super Hornet down into a deep ravine. It was deep enough to block radar waves, but it was distressingly narrow. Narrow enough that all of you had to flying through on your sides.

"Are you sure this is gonna work?" Lara asks nervously.

"Of course. Nobody's gonna expect us to fly through this shit!" Amy laughs.

"Yeah, there's a good reason for that." You say as you look at the uncomfortably close rock walls of the ravine.

Up above, the OB fighters continue their search pattern, flying back and forth in an effort to find your flight. However, it appeared they were having no luck, thanks to you.

"All right, we're clear!" Amy says as the ravine begins to open up. You check your screen and do confirm that the OB fighters were behind you now. It was a clear shot to the Pillar.

The phantom knights of the round table.
>>
Well, tonight was nothing too exciting, but everything went swimmingly...there's just that matter of what the HELL why they were loaded for bear.
>>
>>41884596
It was obviously something big. Something that required complete air superiority.
>>
>>41884615
...Like another flying fortress? Yikes.
>>
>>41884596
lets see, tons of air-superiority fighters, lots of SAMs, near border of Belka in round table. No bombers, so air-superiority fighters means escorting something BIG that needs tons of AA defense. But the puzzling thing are the SAMs. The SAMs are there for making a hotzone in which bombers cannot go over for bombing. so then what are the SAMs protecting? Agaion Airborne Aircraft carrier anyone?
>>
>>41884615
Another incident like Mother Goose one crossed in my mind.
Or they still excavating some super bomber from some vault and readying their fighter just in case.
Or they just that idiot and think Belkan government can be toppled just with air superiority.

Guys, I just remembered. There was another Heavy command cruiser before the Agaion and Gyges series. The Hresvelgr. They might've found it's crashed remains and found enough resources to salvage it and upgrade it.
>>
>>41884708
That thing exploded in impact with the deck. They might as well invest those resources building a whole new Heavy command Cruiser.

"Haha, we're free clear!" Amy laughs.

"That was rather... intense." Lilian admits.

"Heheh, like your alone time with Shiba?" You tease.

"NO." Lilian states flatly.

However, you little lighthearted moment is interrupted when Loki buts in, as expected.

"Sorry girls, I need a status check for weapons and fuel." He says grimly.

"Why?" You blink. "Did something happen?"

"It looks like OB really was planning something." Loki continues. "Belka and Osea just reported that secure prison facilities all over the continent have been hit. The Gray Men are loose."

Do you all think our favorite Wizard also tag along with the Gray Men?

TIME TO GO HUNTING!

WOOT WOOT!
>>
>>41884890
what about Pixy?
>>
(For anyone that doesn't know: The Gray Men are basically an ultra-nationalist Belkan group that were DIRECTLY responsible for the Circum-Pacific War- the setting of Ace Combat 5, and in a way, responsible for Karla's unfortunate past regarding burst missiles. They're powerful folks with their hands in a lot of pies.)
>>
>>41884942
too many pies. They might've started the Belkan war as well back then when they had government positions.
>>
>>41884927
AFAIK he is not involved with Gray Man at any capacity.
Well, its a good reason for him to back and mentor us now.
>>
>>41884927
Last time we saw Pixy was sometime after in AC4 (in the AC0 Cutscenes). So he's kinda free to go.

Personally, I'm wondering about Sorcerer 1. Does he go to rejoin Wizard, or stay in his job at an insurance company?
>>
>>41884977
In interview he seems cooled down a lot, so unless his family is taken hostage he maybe choose to stay low with his insurance job.

Ironically, A World With No Boundaries would be diametrically opposed to the Gray Men. AWWNB believes in the elimination of the very concept of borders to make nations and nationalism irrelevant, while the Gray Men want a resurgent Belka as the dominant nation on Strangereal.

Seriously fuck feral cats, they destroy every ecosystem they get into and spread diseases to other species, I shoot them whenever I see them.

I guess everyone will say otherwise if its a dog eh.

What a bigotry.
>>
>>41886498
You don't get anywhere near as many feral dogs, they are limited to domesticated environments and don't propagate outside of those for many reasons.

Though in their place I have to deal with foxes and the occasional wolf trying to stir shit up on my property.
>>
>>41886498
Uhh no, if a feral dog is causing problem like that I shoot it too...
