Nysela groans and delicately, reluctantly, lets go of the large, square carved golden panel, handing it to you. She struggles a moment as you wrestle it out of her hands by force, but eventually you are once more in possession of it.

"Well." She straightens her hair, combing it back with a swipe of her right hand, trying to look dignified once more. It's not hard for her. "I've delivered the message I came to deliver. Time for me to go now." She glances around herself at the wrecked ruins of the castle. "Have fun rebuilding."

"I need to know one thing." You stop her before she leaves. "You said I destroyed a Deathlord earlier. The Silver Prince... The Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water. Is he really dead? For good?"

She gives you a pitiful look. "I was talking about the Tyrant."

"...Oh." You mumble.

"Taru-Han, the Shogun of the Department of Abstract Matters, confirmed to the Unconquered Sun that her soul has returned to the cycle of reincarnation. She has been put through Lethe."

"...Do you know anything about the Bodhisattva, then?"

She turns her back to you. "...If the Light of Judgement annihilated him completely, then of course his soul wouldn't return to the cycle. It would be consigned to Oblivion, and then only the Neverborn would know of his fate. And if his death wasn't final, and he was destined to return... then, even in this case, only the Neverborn would know." She vanishes in front of your eyes, dematerializing. "Still... twelve Deathlords isn't as threatening as thirteen."

"Eleven would be even better." You reply.

"We can't all have what we want, all the time. Not even the gods or the Exalted can."

And with that, she leaves you.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
Now you have built a solid power base, and worked hard to draw the attention and earn the trust of the Unconquered Sun. What will your next step be?

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

The situation is... messy, overall. You're just starting to cope with it right now.

Over the course of the day, work crews of soldiers and citizens remove rubble and try to locate the missing, patch up the wounded, and put the dead to rest.
You do your part.

Come morning of the day after, you finally manage to have something resembling normalcy. The population has been moved in tents, refuges or the still-intact buildings across the town, or the villages in the countryside, still intact.

That's when you can stop considering Tianna in a state of emergency anymore, and call for a much-needed general meeting of your Circle, or at least the part of it you can reach, here in Tianna City..

One of the few still-intact rooms in the ruins of the castle has been cleaned and filled with the bare essentials: a cracked table, mismatched chairs and stools. Officers bringing in reports from the various part of town and beyond. And in the morning Zaan flew in from Pearl with news from the other side of the island.

You take a look around. No one is unwounded, though some have it worse than others. Mikahil is in a wheelchair pushed around by Five Tails, and you give him an apologetic look, feeling bad for what you had no other choice but to do. Valeriana seems fine physically, but has the looks of someone about to collapse from stress or exhaustion any minute now.

Tia, despite her healing factor, is covered in scrapes and bruises, as well as dust, probably from her recent work as part of the rescue crews. You still see the scar where her arm was ripped off. She must've just stuck it back on the stump and it's still in the process of knitting itself. The wound, open, wet and porous, is filled with dust and loose debris sticking to the insides in a way that makes you want to cringe. Regeneration or not, immune to infections or not, that just looks... errrrgh.
Talon seems mostly fine, though he clearly still has the scars from all the arrows he took. You guess that will take a while to heal even for a huge guy such as him.
Moray Darktide is as badly messed up as Mikahil, maybe worse. He's in a wheelchair as well, covered in bandages, with a collar, and most of his skin burned off. He looks like he must have both arms and both legs broken. Regis has taken to himself to push him around as needed.

Amata still has the wounds from the battle, some of which bandaged, plus Valeriana's same look of exhaustion. Everyone's giving her odd looks. You guess she must've explained her deal to the others, too. Hard not to after what they saw.

Sitting at the far end of the table, nibbling on a large seabass he must've brought with him and which must've been still alive and swimming up to a few minutes ago by the looks of it, Zaan has his fair share of scratches and bruises too.

Awful lot of chatter going on. You imagine everyone has a lot to say. To boast or to complain or simply opinions to share. Tia and Amata are the only exceptions. The former just stands to your side, silent, with her hard-to-read expression on. The latter is on the receiving end of a barrage of questions she's busily dodging as skillfully as ever.

"...Zaan? How are things going in Pearl?"

It's not an official sort of meeting. The conversations in the background slow down because more people pay attention, but don't stop entirely.

"Well, not as bad as here at least. I mean, lots of structural damage, but Golden Reach's still intact." He replies. "It'll need a lot of repairs, though."

Valeriana groans audibly.

"Casualties were heavy, but not crushing. The Steelshard Company is still sort of intact, so they're handling security. There are a few stragglers from the Skullstone army, but they're getting quickly located and destroyed."

"So, in the end we won." You sigh. "Why doesn't it feel like it?"

"Because even though we won, we got beat up very very hard." The lunar explains succinctly. "And, according to our reports from Tyrant, Lynne and Karas, what we faced was just a part of Skullstone's military might."

"On the other hand, we definitely took out the Bodhisattva. Going by Lynne's reports, the next in line of command seems to be the Abyssal known as the Marvelous Maker of Mayhem." Amata notes.

"She's not going to act outside of Skullstone without orders." Mumbles Moray in response. "She's not the type. She's not a military leader and has no spirit of initiative, or interests, outside of her labs and workshops. Not to mention the confusion and panic that will spread in Skullstone once news gets back."

"Well, At least we don't have to expect a second attack." You sigh in relief.

"Now." You try and raise your voice. "What are we going to do with Tyrant's Abyssals?"

"Well, they don't have a place to return to anymore, from what I understand." Amata replies. "Given the circumstances, I don't think they're a danger to us. Well, not willingly."

Talon grumbles. "I heard they fought well on their side. I'd say they're free to go, but... if they don't have a place to go to..."

"...I think you should talk with them, Maka. Hear from them what they want. As odd as the situation is, they DID help us a lot, and we owe something to them."

"...I already had a few words with Fleurdelis. She seemed... well, a bit out of it." You ponder.

"She had the feeling of being the most mentally fragile of them all." Is Amata's reply.

"She really is." You nod, thoughtfully. "At first, Abyssals kind of felt like horrible monsters to me, but... I think they're more like victims themselves, in a weird way. But we know too little of their world and their problems to know how to help."

Talon crosses his huge arms. "Let them do whatever they want." He says. "Go if they want to go. Stay if they want to stay. Join if they want to join. If not, whatever. They're adults, and now, they're our comrade in arms. They can choose."

>I think they need time to sort things out for themselves. I'd leave them alone for a while.

We should talk to them first about sending them on the attack on Skullstone, not volunteer them.
>>
>>41931905
>>41931908

The counterattack option seems like a trap to set Moray off. He's totally devoted to the people of Skullstone and asking them to help attack is going to make him crazy.

Besides Moray is a hero in skullstone and the people will follow him, we just need to know moray has turned his back on the bullshit that the Prince spouted and send him back there to take control of skullstone himself.

We'll ask if they decide to join forces with us, but first they should rest and get their bearings no matter what.

Also we still want to talk to Val and Zaan before we go see them.
>>
>>41931882
>I plan on heading to what's left of the Dark Omen immediately after this to meet them.

Using them in counterattack on Skullstone is a valid suggestion, but we need to decide on our general course of action towards it first, discuss our options with Moray.

>I think they need time to sort things out for themselves. I'd leave them alone for a while.

It doesn't have to be a literal military attack, but sending them with Moray to try and raise a coup against The Prince's remaining Abyssals is a valid strategy.

I can't remember what the Silver Prince's prophecy was, but I wonder if we can spin it so the Bodhisattva was a pretender and Moray is the real savior.

That's actually not a terrible idea, having Moray be the 'true' savior of Skullstone. We'd need to know the full prophecy and Moray's approval, but he might go along with it if he knew it meant lessening future casualties.

>>Do you think they can help us by leading our counterattack to Skullstone? They're better trained and equipped for this sort of thing than us.
>>
>>41932103
It's almost guaranteed to start a civil war but having a dawn solar and a circle of abyssals on one side will make it extremely one sided.
>>
>>41931935
Just saw this. It doesn't have to be an actual counterattack, at least not in the militant sense. It could be a social attack, subverting the Bod's brainwashing and also having a posse to keep the Bod's Abyssals in check.
>>
>>41932116
One sided? especially when backed by another nation haboring an entire circle of solars, a mutant hand full of dragon-bloods and 4 lunars.
All together we could overthrow the rebellion easily, we just need to have Maka make a nation-wide social attack...
>>
About Skullstone, I'm on the fence about it, I kinda want to take it for ourselves, we'd still have Moray or whoever in charge of it, but they would be more like a governor or something, they would still answer to us in the end, kinda like how we would be ruling both Gem and Tianna despite them being a million miles apart.
>>
>>41932116
We'd need to find a way to make it as bloodless as possible though, besides just not wanting to kill our future citizens, anyone that dies would come back as a ghost and potential material for more Sousteel.
>>
>>41932160
Moray is not a true leader, he's a general. He's more fit to rule in someone's name than ruling on his own. He doesn't even have a circle.
>>
>>41932160
Ehhh... the thing is that would also make Skullstone our responsibility. If we could instead set Moray up in control, and have Skullstone as an ally, we can get some of the benefits of controlling a decent chunk of the West, without having to manage three entire nations.
>>
>>41932160
>Maka controlling half of creation through figure-heads
OBEY YOUR MASTER!
MASTER!
>>
>>41932186
Well the best way to do that is to really show what goes on at Island Five. Nobody but the most deluded or insane diehards would support the Prince's new order then.
>>
>>41932103
Considering that Skullstone will likely be incredibly fractured with the Prince's death anyway with the hardliners believing he'll come back and the military being disillusioned, there will likely be a civil war regardless.

And there's no way Moray would let the hardliners stay in power knowing what he knows about the Silver Prince. If he could fill the vacuum and try to make the transition easier for Skullstone to swallow it could only help.
>>
>>41932200

Is he going to rule by punching?
>>
>>41932160
Well, the best way to rule Skullstone is by not forcing it. Try to appear as the moral victor in this, by sending aid and supporting Moray's possible takeover. This way, Skullstone's becomes reliant on us (and if we include it into our plans with crashing the economy, one of the only places that won't fall into a depression) then we can control Skullstone as a proxy.
>>
>>41932242
I mean excellence and leadership, he had no chance to be a national leader because of the Prince but he's still a hero to the people of skullstone and an experienced leader of ships and maybe small fleets.

He's also a good puncher.

"...I'm going to visit them at the Dark Omen and talk things over with them." You decide. "Maybe they can help us with Skullstone."

"Maybe." Amata doesn't sound TOO convinced, but she's not entirely unsupportive of the idea either. "In the worst case scenario, we have one year to take care of Skullstone. We need to solve the problem by then, but not at the expense of everything else, I'd say."

Moray falls silent, staring straight at you.

"...Do you have something to say?" You ask him, detecting his restlessness.

"...I don't know these people well. If you trust them, though, then I can give them a chance. But I want to be kept on top of things concerning Skullstone. We need to dismantle this system they're using to siphon souls off the populace." He lets out a long sigh. Sounds like Moray's focusing on fixing the problems right now, not so much about what to do afterwards. Understandable. Perhaps the rulership issue is a conversation for a later date.

"Don't worry, we're on your side with this. Completely." You reply. Everyone on the table shows their agreement.

"On one side, the best time to strike back at them is as soon as possible." Talon nods to himself. "They must still be reeling from the shock. The longer we leave them to recover, the worse it will be."

"And on the other, the longer we wait, the more people will be soulforged." Amata's tone is grave. "At the same time, we can't act IMMEDIATELY, either. We suffered tremendous damage, and even if they must be in confusion right now, Skullstone still has most of its conventional military might intact."

"I'm not crazy." Moray nods. "I understand that the need to act fast must be balanced against the risk of acting too fast. The question is: what timing are we talking about here? When are we going to prepare our counterattack for?"

>>

This decision might depend on our ability to gather necessary assets, like, if we include Abyssals in our plans and they agree to go along with it, will they be able to fix the Dark Omen and how long would it take?
At the very least we will need a half-decent naval fleet if we are to approach Skullstone in force.

>>
>>41932669
You know, it kind of depends on how Social-oriented this "attack" is going to be, doesn't it? If we're mostly just bringing the exalts to try and convince the people to back Moray, we might be able to leave in a week. If we expect to have some degree of military force to fight large-scale battles, then we might be better served by waiting a month.

Is anyone else interested in the idea of going in with just the Exalts, and convincing the people of Skullstone to fight back with us?
>>
>>41932826
If the Abyssals are willing, then they could all go as soon as the Dark Omen or another regular ship is ready.
>>
>>41932817
Yeah, maybe set him up as an impostor? After all, anyone who appears in the guise of the Silver Prince must not have gotten the memo that the Silver Prince shed that role.
>>
>>41932826
That's a good point actually, if we want to do a bunch of social attacks we can probably leave in like a week or two and still start preparing for a military strike if it comes to that.
>>
>>41932669
>>41932826
>Two weeks.
Yeah that makes sense, if we just do that we can be ready in like a few weeks and hit before they're all properly set up it'll be more effective the less time they have to solidify their control.
>>
>>41932826
Well remember that the process of turning skullstone away from the abusive system the prince set up is probably going to take awhile. I'm leery of going too soon and taking a significant chunk of our available time on Skullstone alone.

We've got at least two other things to do before Summer Camp, we crash the economy of Coral and then maybe the West with Mikahil, and we send a team to rescue ma and pa from gem.
>>
>>41932826
We can do both, start making social maneuvers against them in a week or two and then send in Moray and at the end of the month to hit them big.

>>
>>41932894
Before the whole mess with Bod started we were going to send our ninja Exalts to Gem to check on the things there.
>>
>>41932894
Welllllll...

I'm inclined to argue that MOST of the Silver Prince's system isn't that bad. That's a big part of why it's so successful: The ghosts really are selected based on the judgements of ghosts who are kept largely impartial and free of corruption,(Save from the desires of the Prince, who is no longer a factor) and giving the people a very visible reward to strive for in life goes a long way toward maintaining order.

The thing is, the actual LIE is that the people who aren't chosen to remain as ghosts don't reincarnate like the Prince said, they get turned into soulsteel. And that soulsteel wasn't even a key part of the economy; it was all being kept on Island Five to make the Prince's super-fleet.

If we just... stop making souls into Soulsteel and let them pass on to Lethe, we can keep most of Skullstone's society intact while removing the moral wrongs.
>>
>>41932941
Yes but that would mean that our ninja exalts would be available to help with Skullstone.

Hence my wariness of undue haste.

"At the end of next month?" You suggest.

He clearly doesn't like the idea of waiting that long. You can read that on his face. "End of next month is fine. We'll have to come up with a plan."

"We will." You reply. "We'll come up with something. Right now, though, our priority is to rebuild all the damage in Tianna. We have to take care of our home base first and foremost."

"Yeah, I understand that." He nods.

"It's going to take a while to fix everything." Amaranta doesn't sound too energetic.

"How long?"

"Well, assuming we get all the money and resources and workforce we need... two weeks, and I'll have to wear my Charms thin." She gives you a very, very tired look. "Once i'm done, I'm going on vacation. Even if the damn sky falls down."

"You definitely deserved it." You nod. "I think we all deserve... and NEED some time to recover. But first..." You turn to Mikahil.

"Our coffers are going to be empty again soon, way before we can fix all the damage that we suffered." He replies.

"What about our loot?" Amata wonders. "How much of it can be readily converted into money or other usable resources."

"Remember that we found quite a bit of gold in the Titan."

Mikahil nods. "That'll help, but we need something more. Not just pure cash: access to raw resources and greater workforce.

"You sound like you have an idea." You know you should be afraid of Mikahil when he gets that scheming look in his eyes.

"I do." He replies proudly. "We take over the Neck and Wavecrest."

>>
>>41933242
Well, they can't access the Realm Defense Grid without the Scarlet Empress. And since no one knows where the hell she is, alive or dead, they can't really use it as leverage.

And given we're probably one of the more powerful and good Solars active in Creation, as well as having a pretty large and quickly accumulated power base to play with (and a host of dozens of Exalted) the Realm is going to have a hard time gathering a Wyld Hunt capable of putting us down, especially given how fractitious it is right now with all the in-house fighting.
>>
>>41933242
Probably to the tune of "Send the Water Fleet and the Fire Fleet after them!"

Mind, as soon as someone says that, someone, probably high up in the Peleps hierarchy, is going to remember what happened the LAST time that the Realm sent a significant chunk of it's forces after a burgeoning Solar Empire, and immediately start waffling. So, while we can definitely expect some pretty respectable Wyld Hunts sent by the Immaculates who have their shit mostly together, a combination of in-fighting and fear will probably forestall a major military response for a while.

Thankfully, we don't have to worry about the RDG. If that shit comes online... then we have bigger problems.

It would be really fun if we find the city of Luthe, which is currently under da sea, and get it working again.

Although to get it working we would have to convince the lunar eldar Leviathan that its time to stop morning someone who died during the usurpation and its time to move on.

Although we can still get something out of it if we can't get Luthe running again. There are a lot of dragonblooded down there who are treated as second class citizens by the sea folk population. We can get a lot of loyal dragonblooded to our cause if we give them a passage off Luthe in exchange for their fealty.

>>
You shrug. "Not really, no. Just..." You glance sideways. "Tia?"

"What?" She asks back.

"...Is that okay with you?"

She gives you a long, extremely confused look. "Is what okay with me?"

"...Mikahil's plan?" You suggest.

"Huh." She nods, apparently not having put much thought into it.

"Amata?"

The Sidereal grins. "Well, to be frank, Maka... you're so amazing in bed I can't really think of any good reason to not weaponize it."

"What about your plan to crash the economy?" You have to wonder, though.

"Oh, the situation changed a bit, so I'm putting that on hold. I'll have to revise it." He explains. "I'll keep you posted."

Alright." You tap on the table. "Now, there's another important thing we need to talk about: The Flame that Marched Against The Sea. The Titan."

The room falls silent.

"I'm sorry I've had to keep so many secrets." Amata apologizes. "I had to."

"What's done is done. What matters now is that we're literally sitting above a first age floating fortress. Hideously damaged, but still structurally intact, and with the soul of a dragon goddess-elemental of singular power." You steeple your fingers. "What do we do about it?"

Valeriana raises a hand. "Our two main options are, I'd say, to either work to repair it entirely, secure Tianna above it, and turn it into a flying island, or to dismantle it completely, recycle its parts, and combine it with what's left of the Dark Omen to construct an airship out of it. It's our two best options."

That's kind of Sidereals in a nutshell really. They don't get to make custom charms, and they have to make do with what the Maidens give them, so they had to go and make an entire martial art about fucking.

>>41933845
we've already been over that and a repaired Titan is much much much better, hell we've had this discussion 4 fucking times already and we've always agreed in the end that getting the titan flying and Tianna safe on it is the best option

>>
>>41933934
Yeah it did, it went the same direction all the other times we've discussed this has gone, the airship would be the quick and dirty cheap method, and the titan would be the longer term more expensive but very much worth it option. The Titan is the more desirable and supported option, it will just take longer and cost more.

At the very least, if we get her to say it in front of everyone, it'll give clear direction to the project going forward.

"...I don't want to take the Titan apart. Both because it's Flame and because, well..."

"Because it's a Titan." Valeriana nods. "I can understand that. But I'll warn you: Don't think we'll be able to even begin working on that before next month at the very earliest."

"How long do you think it will take?" You ask her back.

"Well, depends a lot on what you expect, exactly." She replies.

"What do you mean?" Amata wonders.

"Well, we're talking about two things: securing the island - and that also means working with its geomancy so our manses keep working even after lift-off, which is no small feat - and letting the Titan fly again. But what about the rest?" She wonders. "Making the interiors of the Titan liveable, like a massive underground city in addition to the cities in the surface? ANd, are we talking about civilian liveable, or restoring it to a military function? Up to what point? What about weaponry? Do we want just a floating island or do we want as much of the full might of a First Age battlestation as we can muster? There's a lot of variants. And... let's not talk about the Light of Judgement. I don't think I can repair that at all."

The surface will be where civilians live, they can take shelter inside of the Titan if something comes that can actually attack them.

"As a city, it'd just be a matter of rearranging the passageways and making it more accessible and getting basic systems back up. Maybe two. As a fortress... we'd need to restore its armor plating, dig out firing points, restore all the military facilities. Four, five years."

"At minimum."

"At minimum." She nods. "And what were you thinking about."

"I'm thinking that we, as Solars, right now... are way past the point when we keep our heads down. You think of the massive fortress hidden under your feet, a marvel from an ancient age... an age gone entirely wrong. Much like the fortress itself.

Can you repair it all?

"You said two years?"

She nods.

"I'll hold you on to that."

She relaxes. "I thought you were going to say something unreasonable like "I want it in six months" or something."

You grin. "I know you're going to do it anyway."

Just some thoughts I had about our Gloves, what do you guys think about giving them an alternate shield form?

It wouldn't stack with SHS, but I'm pretty sure it still would with Fivefold Bulwark Stance which would give us a huge defense boost, this is just in case we're ever in another situation where we need to not die as opposed to kill the things.

>>

Essentially, what I gathered is it's a general timeframe. One year, we get it flying, two we get it habitable, and four to five it's now a military fortress.
>>
>>41934921
>plus Maka considering the fortress a symptom of an age gone wrong
Learn to read anon, she was referring to the state of the Titan referencing the how the first age went all wrong, just like the Titan ended up.

She didn't consider the fortress a symptom of an age gone wrong, and wasn't thinking against it being a fortress. That's not what EF wrote at all.

Since the vote was close, Maka kept herself vague. It's a very long-term plan that isn't even going to start anytime soon, anyway.

I feel like this is the one Exalted campaign that could actually help increase Creation and make Creation better again instead of decaying and becoming more shit as time goes on. That was always kind of underwhelming about the original books. The Solars were basically stuck with scraps, and there was an undertone that nothing would be as good as it was.

>>
>>41935278
App. 7 IS an excuse.
>>
>>41935184
That's actually a VERY good question.

In the canon, Rankar V is the current Despot of Gem. But... by that same canon, he's not the most recent ursurper, that was his father, Kolar III, who took the throne about 70 years ago.

So, currently, Maka's backstory can't fit 100% with canon, since she lived through her family's ursurpation, and didn't spend 70 years as a mortal before exalting. So, assuming we don't throw out that canon completely(which is an option), either in this canon, Rankar V actually took power about tenish years ago

Or... Maka is the daughter of Rankar V.

I actually like this idea, because A: Kolar III drummed up some evidence that he was descended from the original Rankar, founder of Gem, and it wasn't necessarily complete bullshit, so if Maka is of that line she might even have some real-ass legitimacy. And plus, Rankar isn't particularly evil or, indeed, interesting in canon, so if someone ELSE was the one who overthrew Maka's family, we could have an entirely NEW antagonist and nemesis.

Could dispense with Rankar and his line entirely and just have a completely new antagonist anyway, but I think it's a backstory worth considering.

>>
>>41935426
To be honest gods ARE confusing at times...
>>
>>41935426
>She knew Amata because Tianna was her parents' favourite vacation spot.
I remembered that Maka's parents had visited Tianna and that's why Maka had fled there, but "favorite vacation spot" implies multiple trips, which given the remoteness of Gem and how difficult it is to travel from one direction of Creation to another, maybe the people of Gem are just happy to have a ruler that is around consistently.
