>You are Vincent Esperanza. In a previous life you were a silver-tongued manipulator who conned corporate plutocrats out of their vast fortunes. When you were finally caught the American legal system sentenced you to 20 years behind bars. For two long years you lived on a knife's edge until your sentence was purchased by the Global Exterminators Corporation, aka GEC.

>After subjecting you to six months training, GEC sent you abroad to work in their understaffed Hong Kong branch HQ. In the libertarian free-for-all that is post-WW3 Hong Kong, you are tasked with exterminating the legions of mutant pests left behind by the untold thousands of chemical and biological munitions that were expended both here and on the mainland. Working for those who you once exploited is a bitter irony but you have no choice but to comply... at least until you can find a way to remove the bomb in your neck.

Previously on Exterminator Quest:

While trying to clear a home of infested cats, you fell down a flight of stairs and sustained significant injury to your right leg. No longer feeling capable enough to complete the job, you opted to burn the property to the ground. You then had your van drive you back to GEC HQ where you begged for medical treatment before passing out.

Light. Metal. Dark blurs moving in and out of your peripheral vision.

The process of rebooting your brain is a slow one. You fade in and out of consciousness as fragments of memory come to you and then resubmerge.

You are Vincent.

You are in a GEC laboratory.

You hate cats.

>Trait gained:

>"Fuck cats!"

The beeping sound next to you must be a heart monitor. The IV in your arm seems to be hooked up to a bag of saline.

Your vision and your mind clearing, you take a look around. Despite the movement you saw earlier, the lab seems to be empty except for you.

"Hello?"

"Is anyone there?"

"I'm awake and I need help!"

No one responds to your calls, so you give up and assess your surroundings. You're in the main operating area of the labs, which you remember is connected to specimen containment and the other parts of the lab. You are surrounded by operating tables much like the one you are currently laying on, all of which are shiny and clean.

You notice a small room off to the side, marked "OR Supplies and Management".

You inspect your leg before trying to stand on it and find that its been wrapped in a tight cast. Moving it experimentally, you find that it doesn't cause you any discomfort and decide that that's good enough to try testing your weight on it.

Although inelegant to stand on, you find your leg perfectly serviceable.

You make your way over to the door of the specimen lab and examine it. Unlike last time no one has carelessly left a door stop out , so it's locked. There's a fingerprint scanner here but you're not cleared to open it to your knowledge.

Apparently management is worth far less security than specimens at GEC. The room is wholly unsecured and you walk in with ease, encountering a sleeping... woman? No, a man. The ponytail was remarkably misleading from behind.

You retrieve your pepper spray from the bag and hold it in position to hit this guy right in the eyes if he messes with you when he wakes up.

Then you give him a gentle nudge.

"SNNNNRK- huh?"

His eyes widen with surprise as he stairs into the pepper spray.

"Wha- whats going on? Who are you?"

>"I'm a GEC exterminator, I'm looking to get out of this lab. Sorry about the pepper spray."

"You just woke up... You must be Vincent. They told me there was a chance you'd regain consciousness but I didn't really think you'd wake up in the middle of the night shift. Would you mind lowering the pepper spray a little?"

You bring the pepper spray down just a bit, angling it so you can spray up into his sinuses. The gesture relaxes him anyway.

"If you're looking to get out, I can take you through decon. It's a five minute process and then you're free to go and enjoy your weekend."

"My weekend? What day is it?"

"It's Friday night and the current time is..." The scientist checks his phone.

"11:30 PM"

"Uh, okay. Listen, do you know why I blacked out?"

"Well, I don't know exactly but I was told that you came in yesterday evening with a partially fractured leg, an actively hemorrhaging reopened wound, and completely doped up on painkillers. Everyone was shocked that you were able to walk in on your own power."

"That would explain passing out, I guess. Can we get out of here now?"

"Sure."

You cruise down to the central district of Hong Kong, weaving through traffic in your van. There are plenty of bars but you recall a hot tip you received from a fellow trainee back when you first arrived in Hong Kong about a place for American ex-pats called "The Patriot".

It takes a little searching but eventually you find the place. The entrance is a tiny, defiled hole-in-the-wall but, once you flash your e-pass at the door, you're welcomed into a pristine bar. The sound of english language banter is music to your ears.

Good job.

You sit down at the bar and wave down the bartender, a tightly muscled woman with a no nonsense expression on her face. You request to open a tab and order a beer before scoping out the rest of the bar.

There doesn't seem to be any especially attractive women around by themselves, though you do spot a clutch of laughing women in a corner booth. You could go and try and flirt with one of them...

There is a lively pool game on in the center of the room between two tall men you seem completely preoccupied with what they're doing. Another stands off to the side, watching. You might be able to coerce him into a match with a little something riding on it.

Finally, an enormous black man is down at the end of the bar, whispering into a phone that seems entirely too small for his hands. You have a feeling he's chatting about something sensitive.

You have a strong urge to follow up on all of these things but you can only pick one to start:

"Stripes and solids?"

He shrugs and follows you to an empty to pool table.

You set the balls up before pulling out a $50 from your wallet and plunking it down on the edge of the table.

"Want to make it interesting?"

"Sure. $50 is a low price to pay for making the night interesting. And I'll break, if that's alright."

"Fine."

He breaks well enough to sink two solids before missing his third shot, leaving you in a disadvantaged position.

You do the best you can to calibrate a ricochet into a pocket on the far end of the table and... much to your surprise, you succeed.

The next shot is a cakewalk. And the next, and the next, and the next. You hand finally slips a bit on the fifth shot and you scratch.

Your opponent chortles to himself and places the ball for what appears to be an easy shot. But it seems he's let himself get too overconfident.

"Scratch to scratch, guess it's just not my night." he says, fishing the cue ball from the gutter and tossing it to you.

You quickly sink your remaining three balls and call the far-left pocket for your closing shot. You make it with ease.

"Damn, I didn't think you were a ringer."

Your opponent sighs dejectedly but hands over his $50. A good start to the night.

"What's so funny, ladies?"

Two of the women turn unfocused eyes on you, while another puts her head down and continues giggling into her folded arms. A fourth simply sits and stirs her drink without paying you any mind.

"Patricia was just telling us about her ex." says one, pointing a thumb towards the drink stirrer.

"He had a... teeny... tiny... PENIS!" says the other. The woman with her head down starts laughing even harder. The drink stirring woman turns red.

"That's very interesting," you say, "Did you know I happen to have a very large penis?"

The women all hoot derisively at first, except for Patricia, who glares angrily at you. The others, seeing her expression, immediately start consoling her and ignoring you.

Meanwhile, the man who just walked in is now sitting next to the large black man at the bar. They are conversing very intensely about something, though you're too far away to hear what about.

>tails, tails, heads

You get back to the floor of your apartment to find your neighbors door open and three armed Scyths outside.

"Excuse me sir, did you know a Dau WuShen? The one who lived in this apartment?"

>I only met him briefly, whats this about?
>Nope (lie, roll 3d6+2 three times to beat 11)

>barely knew him, whats this about?

"Honestly, I spoke to him for the very fist time this week, and that was through his door rather than face-to-face. He was a very secretive man."

"Well, there's a reason for that. Apparently he was running an illegal replication plant out of his apartment. And now, big surprise, he's been murdered, probably by one of his customers or some other local replicator. Did you see anyone strange coming out of this apartment?"

>No, but whats a replication plant?
>describe a person you saw on a wanted poster back at ScythHQ
>Nope. (try to leave and go into your apartment)

"Haven't seen a soul, though he did always make a racket at night. And this morning I heard someone yelling threats."

"Threats? What kind of threats?"

"I don't really know, it was all in really obscure Chinese and I wasn't fluent enough to understand it. All I knew was that it was very angry."

"Alright then, you can go, I have-"

"Wait, what's a replication plant?"

The Scyth raises an eyebrow.

"You must be a hell of an ignorant Cit if you don't know what a replication plant is. It's basically a slow but highly flexible personal factory. People use them to make illegal or otherwise out of reach stuff, like untraceable guns or drugs which they then sell. Takes a lot of expertise to build one, since kits have been banned since the 20s"

"Right, well I'm going to try and go compose myself following the death of my neighbor."

"Have fun, Cit."

You walk into your apartment and close the door behind you before exhaling heavily. You had no idea there was a murder about to be perpetrated next door when you let this morning..

You pour yourself out a bowl of wheaties and fill it with some near-expiration milk to try and wash the pain away. It doesn't really work but you do feel better.

Next you take a shower. You really needed a shower.

Once clean, you can go change your clothes. Most of your stuff is pretty old and unstylish. What should you choose?

>business suit with a terrible tie
>t-shirt and shorts, look like a tourist
>jeans and a wife-beater, look like a somewhat intimidating bum
>jeans and a t-shirt, look like a casual dude
>forget this, I'm going clothes shopping.

You put on a pair of jeans and an Old Navy t-shirt with an American flag on the front on. You feel patriotic but also unfashionable.

You make a note to buy new clothes as soon as possible. Now, how soon is ASAP?

>right after I go get my check from work
>right after I go check out that mysterious building from last night
>right after I go buy some groceries
>right after I get a gym membership
>right after I "write-in"

Calling it for clothes shopping.

You leave your apartment, making what you hope is a friendly wave at the Scyths standing outside. One of them, joking you hope, puts his hand on his gun in response but they let you go unmolested.

In your car, you set your coordinates for the best, highest quality clothing store you can think of.

Bloomingdale's Hong Kong.

Next time: Lots of shopping options, more chances to pass up violence, more pictures! Your weekend continues!

For now, I'm going to archive and stick around for questions.

As always, once I leave you can reach me on Twitter @QMsimmons.

Don't forget to vote up if you thought this was a worthy thread.

I plan to run again either tomorrow or wednesday at 5pm EST. Possibly both.

Before I go, a question:

What would you like to see more of from this Quest? What do you want less of?

How are so many people still ignorant of the loadsa mutant critters infesting the world with most mammals extinct.

How is Vince so oblivious to the world of crime he hasn't heard of a 3D printer.
>>
>>41942653

Vince is not the smartest man.

It has only been a few years since the war. People are very much aware of the chemical weapons and biological agents floating around as well as some mutant animals (like muta-rats, sprouters, and sewer lizards) but many many more go unnoticed and are only observed by people like you since you deal with them on a daily basis.

What are the benefits of promotion at GEC, aside from money? Does moving up/doing a fantastic job have the potential of getting that bomb removed faster?
>>
>>41943061
The money is one, being able to boost more than once is another.

Other than that, not much. Your sentence is legally binding and cannot be reduced unless GEC exercises some pull on the US government.
