"I'll rip you apart!" Vardaak promises as he rushes towards Kara.

His tongue shoots from his mouth and extends towards the Detective, who nimbly jumps out of the way. The tongue retracts, and Vardaak leaps after her, swiping at her with a clawed hand.

Kara leans out of the way and knees him in the gut, giving a kick to the side of his head just before she lands. Vardaak pushes himself back up and runs at her once again, and Kara lowers her right fist, which begins to glow blue with Spirit Energy.

She breaks into a run and meets the demon's charge, avoiding a swipe and tongue strike as she gets close and throws an uppercut that sends the demon crashing through a tree. She waits a minute to see if it gets back up, then resumes her walk towards the compound.

"We can't just make assumptions in a situation like this," you call after Kara.

"I promise you, he's dead," she calls back over her shoulder. "Now come on, every second we waste is another second they have to get ready for us."

Not wanting to just take her word for it, you rush past the fallen tree to the spot where Vardaak landed, finding him lying motionless on the ground, his neck broken. You aren't sure exactly how strong he was, but Kara defeated him easily. She might be helpful after all.

You follow Kara as she makes her way to the compound. Your group doesn't fall under attack at any point during the hike, but you're certain that you're being watched. After all, you hear their guard dog is very good at spotting intruders.

The compound soon comes into view. It's a massive, walled building with a single point of entry, which is currently obstructed by two demons. One is a reptilian looking, four-legged creature covered in countless eyes, most of which appear to be pointed at your group.

Kaya makes a somewhat disgusted sound and takes a step back as the creature lets out a howl.

"We know they're here, you mutt! So shut up!" the other demon demands.

He's very large, covered in brown fur, and has four massive arms. He stares at you and your comrades with a look of anticipation, looking quite eager to fight, and, you suspect, rip you apart like he did Koenma's agent months ago.

"Sashamp," Kara mutters, looking at the large creature. Her gaze shifts over to you. "Do you want this fight? I'm actually pretty curious about how strong you've gotten, and he looks like he might be tougher than the last demon we saw."

"His kind rely on brute strength," Kasai speaks up, staring at the large demon. "The two of you are much faster, so either one of you should be able to make short work of him."

"And what about you?" Kara asks.

"I could attack from the sky and slowly burn him away," Kasai answers.

"I'll take this fight," you decide. "There'd be no point in the training I did if I just sat everything out."

Kara chuckles. "Fair enough. Let's see how your demon training paid off."

You take a step toward the large demon, who marches in front of the four-legged beast in a path to meet you. As he draws closer, you can see how much taller he is than you. Of course, you aren't the least bit intimidated. You've fought creatures his size before, and you're still around.

"So, squirt, you're gonna fight me all by yourself?" Sashamp asks with an amused smile. "You got guts, and I'm gonna show 'em to ya."

"Gouki," you say softly.

"Gouki?" Sashamp asks. "What's tha-"

He cuts off as your body erupts into flames. They fade starting at your feet and working their way up, revealing the black suit and armor that you wear when going into serious battles, and, eventually, the skull mask that covers your head.

Sashamp stares into the eyes of your helmet, which flicker with tiny flames. He takes a nervous step back, then recomposes himself and lets out a laugh.

"Nice show, kid," he compliments. "But I'm not afraid of smoke and mirrors! Get ready to die!"

He pulls back one of his massive arms and throws a punch aimed at your face.

You dodge the punch rather easily. However strong Sashamp is, he's not very fast, and he misses by a mile.

Stepping to the side, you hold your right palm towards your opponent. It briefly glows with Spirit Energy, and unleashes a powerful blast that hits him full-force. Sashamp is thrown back, and the four-legged demon scurries out of the way as he crashes to the ground, going completely still and staying that way.

"Well done!" Kaya praises.

"Huh, he was even weaker than I was expecting," Kara says, staring at the fallen demon.

"I'd say Sashamp was in the lower C-Class," Kasai comments, coming to your side and watching as the demonic guard dog sniffs at Sashamp's body. "John is lower B-Class."

"Upper C-Class," she answers somewhat bitterly.

"This has been easier than I was expecting," you admit as you step towards the compound, ignoring the demonic watchdog, who lets out a howl as you pass, but makes no effort to attack.

You step inside through the front door, finding a dozen men armed with guns waiting for you. All of them take aid and prepare to fire.

Using your Spirit Energy, you create a small barrier around yourself and your allies, easily stopping the bullets the men fire at you. You wait until their guns are empty, then drop the barrier.

"Kasai, mind burning their guns?" you ask.

She smirks. "With pleasure, but I'd rather just burn them."

"Stick to the guns," Kara insists.

Kasai sighs and extends her hands towards the men. Torrents of flame shoot from her fingers and hit the guns, which the men immediately drop, hissing in pain. Kara runs forward, knocking them out one by one, and even Kaya smacks one over the head with her oar, knocking him out cold.

Kara looks over her shoulder at you. "That wasn't necessary. If you're really B-Class, bullets won't be able to scratch you. Even Kaya could take a few gunshots without being hurt too bad."

"Yes, relying on humans was a mistake," a deep voice says from somewhere ahead of you.

Looking down the hallway, you see a thin figure covered entirely in black armor, complete with a black helmet. They crack their knuckles and step forward, looking between you and the others.

"I'll fight," you announce, taking a step towards the approaching demon.

"You have no idea what kind of trouble you are in," it replies, laughing darkly as the two of you draw closer to one another.

You both begin to push out with your energy, comparing your strength as you stop a few feet away. From what you're feeling, this person is very strong, seemingly on par with you.

They throw a punch, catching you in the gut and sending you sliding back a few feet. As they rush forward, you leap behind them, spinning and kicking them in the back. They slide a few feet towards your friends, then spin, throwing a kick that you duck beneath, and hitting you in the face with a quick blast of demon energy as you rise, knocking you onto your back.

They leap above you and rapidly descend, punching right through the floor as you roll out of the way and get back to your feet.

You go on the defensive as your foe rushes forward, attacking relentlessly with powerful punches and kicks. You block and parry the first few strikes, but a punch gets through and hits you in the face. You recover quickly enough to lean out of the way and catch your foe's fist on the next punch, pulling them in and kicking them in the head.

You release their fist, and they fly off their feet, falling near the entrance as the others move out of the way. They slowly stand back up, cracking their neck and slamming their right fist into their left palm. A black mist begins to surround them, and their body shakes.

"You're not bad," they admit. "But you aren't strong enough to beat one of me, much less three of me."

The mist grows thicker around them.

"Toraiado Gijutsu!"

The mist spreads away from your foe, some of it to the left, and some to the right. The two clouds of mist take shape, molding into spitting images of your enemy.

All three come rushing at once, and you're quickly pushed back under the assault, soon being pummeled by attacks from your three foes. A jump kick knocks you over and sends you sliding across the floor.

"You can't win," the one in the center assures you.

You get back to your feet, and your fists erupt into flames. You rush forward towards the trio of armor-clad enemies. The one in the center slams their fist into yours, slowly sliding backwards under the extra power your fire and Spirit Energy have given your punch. You manage to land a solid uppercut and kick to the center foe, before finding yourself being once again attacked by the other two.

"Kara, Kasai, help me out here!" you call.

For once, the two of them actually look rather nervous. Still, neither one backs down. Kasai's body erupts into flames as she steps forward, and the enemy you just pummeled turns its attention to your two allies, leaving you with two foes to fight instead of three.

You're quickly driven back, and begin to receive a beating once again. Meanwhile, Kasai raises her right hand above her head, facing her palm upward. The flames covering her body race to her palm, forming a gigantic orb almost twice as large as she. It slowly shrinks down, until Kasai is able to close her fist around it. Her hand trembles, then her arm, and soon her entire body shakes.

Kara and her opponent stop short to watch what the fire apparition is doing. Kasai's eyes shoot open, fire dancing within them as she lowers her hand to her side, a red light surrounding her entire body.

"PHEONIX STRIKE!" she shouts as a colossal, flaming bird emerges from her body.

It lets out a deafening cry that even gets the attention of your two opponents as it swoops down upon its target, crashing into the armor-clad fighter and exploding in a shower of flames.

Kaya crouches down and shields herself from the heat, while Kara makes a small barrier around herself to keep from being hit. Smoke fills the hallway, obscuring your vision of your friends and their foe, but you take advantage of the momentary distraction and punch one of your opponents in the back of the head.

"SPIRIT GUN!"

A blue beam of light explodes from your finger, and hits your foe full force, sending them flying and crashing through the ceiling, and ultimately falling to the floor, either disoriented or unconscious.

The remaining demon rushes towards you, landing a solid kick to your face and knocking you off balance, they move forward, and duck under a sloppy punch you throw in order to punch you between the legs. You're wearing a guard down there, but it still hurts.

The smoke begins to clear, revealing an exhausted looking Kasai, a surprised Kara, and an unharmed, armored fighter. The fighter begins moving forward, and Kara steps between him and Kasai.

"She's out of this fight, focus on me!" she insists as a faint blue light begins to surround her.

The demon that just hit you throws an uppercut that knocks you off-balance again, and jumps, slamming their knee into your jaw and knocking you onto your back.

They step forward, pulling back their arm and preparing to punch down.

You roll out of the way as your opponent's fist slams downward, striking through the ground and creating enough of a shockwave to throw you into the air.

You recover as your opponent leaps after you, and thrust your palm forward, unleashing a blast of Spirit Energy that knocks them back to the ground, crashing hard on their back and momentarily disorienting them. As you land, they rush to you, throwing a savage series of punches that begins to make you back up. However, you can tell that they're hurt, their punches are rapidly growing both slower and weaker, allowing you an easy chance to counter and hit them with a palm-strike to the chest that sends them sliding back.

You can feel a tremendous surge of energy coming from Kara, and your opponent turns to look.

Kara is surrounded by a blue aura, and emanates much greater power than you think she should. In fact, right now her power feels about equal to your own. Whatever she's doing to draw that kind of power seems to be taking its toll on her, however, as you can see sweat dripping down her face, and that she's breathing rather heavily.

She raises her right fist, and blue lights shoot from between her fingers. She steps forward and thrusts her hand towards her opponent, opening her fist and facing the palm toward him.

"LIFE BLAST!"

A large wave of blue light shoots from her palm and strikes the demon, striking its chest and passing right through it. You and your enemy jump out of the way, and the blast continues down the hall before exploding as it strikes something or other.

The glow surrounding Kara fades, and she slumps to the ground. Kaya rushes over to her, kneeling at her side, and the demon Kara was fighting does not get back up.

Your opponent, looking between its fallen selves and you, slams its fist into its palm again, body trembling as a black mist begins to form around it.

You move to the nearest fallen demon and remove their helmet.

It turns out that they were female, and mostly human in appearance, with short black hair and two small horns on their forehead. You kill each after removing their helmets, breaking their necks so as to avoid using your Spirit Energy.

You have enough left to use the Spirit Gun two or three more times, depending on how much Spirit Energy you use.

With that settles, you go over to the girls.

Kasai seems to be recovering, though she still looks somewhat tired. Her attack clearly took a lot out of her. Kara looks much worse, as if she just got finished running a marathon. Kaya looks at her worriedly, but gives you a small smile as you approach.

"Great work, there," she compliments, looking up at you. "I see you've been training hard."

"Are you all okay?" you ask with concern.

"I'm just fine, but these two are exhausted," Kaya answers, motioning to Kara and Kasai.

"I'll be fine," Kasai assures you. "I just need time to recover my energy."

"What did Kara do to make herself so exhausted?" you ask.

"It's something my teacher taught me," Kara replies in a tired voice. "I can receive incredible strength in small bursts when I delve into my Life Energy. And I can channel some of that life energy into a blast, like you saw."

She sighs. "The problem is, Life Energy is as valuable as it sounds. If I use up too much of it, I'll just end up killing myself. If I wasn't at full strength when I did that, I'd be out for a few days at best, or possibly dead."

"Do you need help walking?" you ask.

She shakes her head. "Kaya can help me. Right now, you're the only one of us that can do the fighting. If there's any demons here stronger than the one we just killed, Kasai won't be able to do anything against it. Even your chances won't be very good."

You nod, but look at Kasai. "Can you walk on your own, or do you need my shoulder to lean on?"

"I will be fine," she assures you. "I'm tired, but I can still walk."

You continue on into the compound, the others following closely. Several ambushes await you in the form of lesser demons and armed humans, all of which you dispatch with very little effort.

At first, you aren't sure where to go, but a massive amount of demon energy soon gives you a pretty good idea. Slowly, you work your way towards the back of the compound, finding yourself faced with two massive doors.

You can feel a tremendous amount of demonic power behind those doors, power that puts even your own to shame. Judging by the looks of fear on everyone else's faces, they can feel it too. Whatever is beyond the doors, it's powerful and sinister.

And, you suspect that it's waiting for you.

"If you guys want to wait here, then I won't blame you," you tell the others.

"I don't want to," Kara tells you. "But I'm too exhausted to do anything more than get in the way."

"I'm coming," Kasai tells you. "Whatever's in there, you can't face it alone."

"I'll be here," Kaya tells you. "I'll keep an eye on Kara and stay out of your way."

You open the door and step into the massive room beyond. It looks almost like an arena, with a viewing box on the far side, in which sits a dark-haired, mustached man in a black suit.

But, he's far from the most interesting thing in the room.

At the room's center is a strange assortment of machinery, surrounding what looks to you almost like a massive black hole floating in the air. Sparks of electricity shoot through it, and it slowly expands as the two figures in front of it watch.

One is a large, armored figure who turns to look at you with one huge eye.

Balor.

At his side is a similar looking, but shorter creature who also turns to look at you, but keeps his eye closed. Perhaps he's the one the voice spoke of.

"Ah, we have a guest," Balor comments. "Just as you predicted, brother."

"It was only a matter of time," the smaller demon comments. "And it seems one of his friends still has enough energy to join him."

"Then she will die with him," Balor declares.

"Hmm...he has more energy remaining than I was expecting," Balor's brother admits. "He may put up a fight."

"Hey, would you two stop whispering and get on with the show you promised?" the man in the viewing box asks.

Balor looks up at the man in annoyance, while his brother chuckles.

"Of course," the smaller demon says, turning to the black hole. He slowly approaches it, then shouts, "Send the beast through!"

The doors behind you slam shut, and Balor's brother leaps up to the viewing box as something roars from within the hole.

A large, maned head closely resembling that of a lion pokes out from the hole, followed by massive arms ending in hooked talons. The upper body comes through, revealing a back with what appears to be two snakes sitting on top of it, hissing and looking around the room. Large, hoofed feet come next, and the creature stands on them, rearing to its full height and bringing its head close to the ceiling.

"Now, Téras, enjoy your first meal in the human realm," Balor instructs the creature before joining his brother and the human in the viewing box.

The creature brings its hand down to swipe at you and Kasai. You leap out of the way while Kasai takes to the air and shoots jets of flame at the beast, hitting it in the face but doing little more than irritating it. The dives under the swipe it throws in retaliation, and shoots another jet of flame.

The two snake heads turn towards her, hissing and spitting at her. Kasai dodges the spit along with the next swipe, and when the liquid hits the wall, it melts right through it. Kasai aims her next jet of flame at one of the snake heads, which lets our a shriek as flames hit it.

The beast howls and brings both its hands to Kasai, trapping her between them and clapping them together. It moves them apart, and Kasai falls from the air, plummeting towards the ground.

You leap and catch her, landing in a crouch and dashing to avoid the next attempt it makes to strike. You turn to see the beast towering over you, letting out a roar.

You jump to avoid the next swipe from the creature, and shoot a jet of flames at one of the snake heads as you land. You barely miss, and duck beneath another swipe before rushing forward and leaping onto one of the beast's arms.

You run up the arm and shoot a jet of flame at the creature's face, not doing much more than pissing it off as you run to the shoulder, turn, and begin sliding down the creature's back. You shoot a jet of flames at one of the snake heads, causing the beast to roar in pain as the other head spits at you.

You leap off of the creature's back and shoot another jet of flame, scorching the other snake head and causing the beast to roar in pain again. It falls forward, hands planted on the ground as it voices its agony.

You leap over the creature and land in front of it, pointing your index finger at its face. You gather Spirit Energy into the tip of your finger, and the beast lets out a roar, giving you the opportunity you need.

"SPIRIT GUN!" you shout.

A blue beam of light shoots from your fingertip, entering the mouth of the creature and shooting through the back of its head and into the hole. The creature slumps dead to the ground, and you look up at the viewing box.

"What the hell just happened?" the human demands.

"Have no fear," Balor's brother tells him. "My brother will deal with our friend, here. For now, we should get you some place safe."

As the human and Balor's brother leave, you set Kasai down. You're starting to feel the first signs of fatigue, and you have one Spirit Gun blast left, maybe two. Balor shows no signs of weariness, and you know that he has more strength than you would even were you not getting tired.

He stares down at you, smirking in anticipation for a confrontation he's been waiting for. He's clearly going to enjoy this, but you probably won't.

This could be your final stand
