You are Lord William Bordain, Lord of Morderengrad and the Norther Valley. Some call you the Iron Lord, as your wealth flows from the arms and armor you sell, and your demeanor is as unflinching and cold as castle-forged steel. Other have taken to calling you “The Grey Giant”, in reference to your great size, less-than-warm demeanor, and your recent marriage to House Tollett of Grey Glen.

You are a Lord by right of Murder, having slain the Targaryen children in the Sack of King’s Landing. After years of solitary brooding, you decided to rejoin the greater world. You brought order to your lands, unveiled a traitor, and wedded the lady Alyssa Tollet, who now bears your child.

Which means that you have a legacy to forge for your future child. You will not leave your flesh and blood without care or resources, and so you have dived into the management of your lands and holdings, to procure a bright future for yourself and your children. But storm clouds darken the horizon. Tywin Lannister has asked that you seek to supplant Jon Arryn, your liege lord, as Hand of The King. Further, Oberyn Martell has crossed you, and this you will not let go unpunished.

But for now, such concerns can wait. Your wife grows ever more gravid with your coming child, and you seek a time of peace for their entry to the world. You currently tend your lands, and arm your men for the coming sail to Essos, to found your mercenary company there.

You are dining with your wife when For Korbis enters your solar. He does not intrude, instead patiently waiting for your acknowledgment.

>General Quest Information
If you've never read Song of Iron and Hate (or Knock-Off Game of Thrones Quest, as it was originally called), it's a relatively long-running but sporadic quest following an Alternate Universe Song of Ice and Fire in which you play William Bordain, summarized in the first post.

> How do I play?
Any time I need rolls, I'll tell you what dice to roll, and will take the best of the first 3 results. Other than that, just make suggestions for courses of action, and the ones that receive the most support will be followed.

>How do rolls work?
We're using the Song of Ice and Fire RPG system, where you roll a pool of d6s and keep some of them, in order to meet a target number.

>What have I missed?

This link https://archive.moe/tg/search/text/William%20Bordain/type/op/

Holds every quest in the series except the very first one, where we generated the specifics of the House. So if you want to catch up, read those.

Pastebin with more detailed information coming soon.

Today, Page's overslept by an hour and a half, his work call went 75 minutes over, and he got home to find a tenant in need of an ambulance, turning his planned 3 hours of prep time into a 30 minute delay, and 10 minutes of prep.

MARITAL BLISS HINT: Your wife enjoys how much your rely on her for input in your affairs.

CONTINUITY NOTE: It was not uncommon for you to take breakfast with Korbis before you were wed. Since the wedding, the habit has not reformed. You look at Alyssa to gauge her mood. She seems perfectly content to let you handle this.

"For, come, take a seat. No need to stand on formality before noon."

He snorts lightly, before sitting. The main course of your breakfast is an ingenious little trick of the cook's. You're unsure what he calls it, but you've always called it the Shepard's Wake-up Call. It's a casserole in the vein of a shepard's pie, with a base of egg mixed with scallions, bacon, goat cheese and garlic, under a layer of hot minced corned beef, which itself is under a layer of diced potatoes and peppers.

Beside this heap of filling starch and protein, is a sweet-biscuit made from valley squash and cranberries.

Your drink is watered down wine, with fruit juices splashed in.

He helps himself to a few heaping spoons of the Wake-up Call and a Sweet-biscuit, and Stefon pours him a glass of the juiced wine.

"Well, my lord, it's to do with your great honkin' castle here. While you were broodin', you never really cared to investigate the grounds, then came the plots and the Hillmen, and since becomin' married, your wife and you have had other concerns. But, given that things are finally startin' to calm down, I thought you might want to discuss some of the facets you've been ignoring."

You nod your head, realizing that, of course you haven't seen much of your own castle. You visit the training grounds, the throne room, your solar and...well, you sleep and shit like other men, but, given the size of your castle, there has to be more to it.

"Certainly, For. Let's go right after breakfast."

>QUEST DETAILS.
>This is me wanting to give you guys some free stuff to have "always had" in your castle.

You have A SOLAR.

You are allowed three picks from the following List:
>Crypts: A place for you and your descendants to be one day buried and remembered. This connects your future to the history of your home.
>Gardens: A series of open-air paths amid trees, shrubberies, and flower beds. A place of calm and beauty, amid the iron of Morderengrad.
>Glasshouses. A series of glass buildings that contain small gardens, who, protected by the glass, can grow through winter.
>Observatory. A room from which the stars can be charted and watched, allowing you to keep abreast of the change of seasons, the fortuitous conjunctions of stars, and to simply watch the night sky.
>Trophy Room. A room that, like the crypts, it dedicated to memory. Here you collect things that interest you, or trophies of deeds you have performed, so that others may admire them.

CUSTOM OPTIONS
>Kennels. This choice signifies that the Kennels you keep are impressive and well-attended. Your dogs are happier, they hunt better, and can be bred easier.
>Training Yard. This space signifies an extensive armory and space for the training of your squire, household guard, and even units either from you personally or your master of arms.
>Dragonfire Forge. The space in which your smith works is no standard smith's shop. It holds texts hundreds of years old, and the forge itself burns hotter than can be believed. Among the benefits this grants is the ability to REforge Valyrian Steel.
>Map Chamber. This room contains a large table, and many old maps. From it, you can more accurately judge the scope of large-scale conflicts, as well as keep a more informed understanding of borders, territories, and geography.

Say, since our brother died and the rule of inheritance being what it is...our father lands would return to us when he dies right? Even if he doesn't have that much land with him being a landed knight, it would give us a foot(toe more like)hold into the Westerlands right?

We're a functional man, we want our childlren to remember us by our deeds and what we built.
>>No crypt
Same goes for the trophy room. We remember our deeds by their results, not by keepsakes
>>No trophy room
Glasshouses, gardens and observatory. They just don't strike me as something we'd have gone out of our way to build. Remember we built this castle in the midst of our solitary, brooding catatonia ... I can't imagine we'd have put any of these in. Maybe now Alyssa's here we should ask her which of the three she'd prefer but I really don't think we'd have one yet.
>>No gardens, glasshouses or observatory
Dragonfire Forge - We're the fucking Iron Lord, producer of the finest arms and armour in the seven kingdoms.
>>Of course we need this
Training yard and map chamber - We're a warrior first and foremost. It was through war and combat that we were raised to lordship and we pride ourselves on doing it well. It's also a legacy we've continued in peacetime, building up one of the largest single armies in the Vale and finding a way to involve ourselves in combat despite our entire continent being at peace.
Plus, our troops are almost all elite, it makes sense we'd have an excellent training yard.
And now we're conducting mercenary campaigns half a world away ... a room with maps of Essoss might just come in handy.
>>I think training yard and map chamber are incredibly fitting.
Kennels - I want them ... but we haven't hada any real dogs yet and I think the dragonfire forge, map chamber and training yards are more in-character. But I still want them

Yes, no, and maybe.

It depends on how EXACTLY Robert made you a Lord, which William didn't have the political savvy to note at the time, and he hasn't asked anyone.

Basically, you might not LEGALLY be your father's son anymore.

If you are, then yes, you will inherit his lands.

If not, then it means that, as far as the law is concerned, both the Ruttiger sons died, and one just happened to die the same day that Lord BORDAIN was "born" as a 17 year old, leaving your sister to inherit.

Note: You didn't build shit.

This castle has been here for a thousand years, and was abandoned some several hundred years ago. It was going to be gifted to that one knight, and instead was given to you.

So it's not about what you put in the castle, it's what was here when you arrived.

Not saying you should change your vote, just noting that your arguments have a flawed premise.

I think, even with avarice being a trait of Bordain, that such a thing would be difficult to consider (Its his dad). Plus he's been busy. Very busy. I have to agree with this, but we should talk with Alyssa about Morderengrad needing a less martial and more noble mindset into any future renovations and or expansions.

That wouldn't be a thing the king would be bothered with, its a small land, and that would likely fall under Tywin's purview as his banner house. the only reason this would come before the king is if the land succession caused such a shitstorm he felt a need to personally interfere in the warden of the west's business. While I would normally call this impossible knowing tg... well...

>>
>>41981656
Can we get the statistcal effects for the custom options then?

>Crypts: Costs 2 Defense, 3 Wealth, +2 to Influence gains on House Fortune rolls, no upgrades
>Gardens: 1 Defense, 4 Wealth, +1 to Influence and Wealth loss mitigation, can be upgraded to offer +1 to Wealth House Fortunes gains, and +1 to House Fortunes rolls not during winter, for 2 wealth eac
>Glasshouses: 1 Defense, 3 Wealth: can either add 1 to Population loss Mitigation, +1 to Wealth loss mitigation, or +1B to all healing checks in the castle. For +1 defense and Wealth, another bonus can be bought, and you can do this until you have all 3 bonuses
>Observatory: 1 Defense, 4 Wealth, +1 to House Fortunes rolls, can hire a Scholar for 5 more wealth
>Trophy Room: 5 Wealth, +1 to Influence House Fortunes rolls, can be upgraded with a Scholar, and with another Influence +1, for % Wealth each

And since 2 of the options include it:
>Scholar: 5 Wealth, +1 to House Fortunes, gets cost reduced to 3 wealth by the library we're building, can set up a school for 5 more wealth, adding another +1

Keep in mind that OOSP uses stacking bonuses, so those aren't straight additions to our rolls.

I like the idea of not having much in the way of gardens or glasshouse, but some fucking enormous ones the instant Alyssa mentions how she misses the flowers at home.
>>
>>41981894
Oh, I meant we can build them future tense, Alyssa has only been part of William's Wild Ride for a relatively short while, it's unlikely that the original gardens were expanded when we first moved in.
>>
>>41981915
We don't really need to minmax here, this isn't something we built personally. I think we should choose for flavor reasons.

Hence a solid NO vote to the Dragonfire forge. I want to see it built by our own will
>>
>>41981935
I'd be concerned that if the keep doesn't already contain such a forge, then it would be incredibly difficult for us to acquire one considering all the ancient knowledge required.
>>
>>41981928

It's probably the most in-keeping with character option we can take.

>>41981985

This, being able to re-forge Valyrian steel is even more valuable than owning one of the weapons yourself. It seems like a completely necessary option to me.

Guess that brings my total to:

>Garden / Glasshouse
>Dragonfire Forge
>Map Room
>>
>>41981935
Just making it clear what exactly we're signing up for. Also, it's not impossible that there could be a Dragonfire forge before we got here. Whoever lived here before us probably mined iron as well. They could have had a particularly badass forge.

Also, I forgot to mention that the Scholar also gives a +2 bonus to knowledge tests when he's consulted. Also, the Scholar upgrades cost 5 Wealth, while buying a Scholar outright also costs 5, so doing so is purely a flavor choice.
>>
>>41981509
>Training Yard. This space signifies an extensive armory and space for the training of your squire, household guard, and even units either from you personally or your master of arms.

B: Gardens? Why would we need gardens? It is vanity.

A: Well, it would be somewhere for me to walk when you're not hime.

>Pic related begins construction tomorrow.
>>
>>41981781
You're right that you would be able to make a solid claim. It would just be seen as kind of a dick move. Unless you hate whoever your sister ends up marrying, then it would at least make sense to people.

>>41981886
Oh, yeah. They're all options. The only thing to note is that a LOT of them might kind of crowd the keep, and they'll cost wealth and defense to make (Gardens, for instance, cost 4 wealth and 1 defense)

>>41981915
You already have a scholar, in the form of Maester Arban, though I don't know if there's a rule against stacking them.

Also, in the interest of honesty, as noted by the title and second post, pretty much all of my prep time was consumed in recent events. So I don't have full stats on the options yet, but here's the basics.

Kennels: -2 to Master of the Hunt purchase, +1B to Survival(Hunting)
Dragonfire: +1 Power, reforge ability.
Training Yard: +1 Power, additional benefits based on personage and equipment. Allows you/master of arms to make checks to improve unit training.
Map Chamber: +1 Lands, +1D Warfare when commanding from Morderengrad.

Alright, If you want to/ have change(d) your votes, please delete previous votes.

I'm going to go pee, get a soda, and tally them up for the tour.
>>
>>41981985
Same goes for the ancient and exotic maps of a map chamber

Thinking about flavour, Morderengrad's been described as some big dark keep on a mountain, whatever lord built it in ages past doesn't strike me as the sort to go for gardens and glasshouses. Any of forge, training yard, map chamber, maybe trophy room or kennels seems better.
>>
>>41982047

I'm glad we get a chance to build glasshouses at a later point. (Making food during winter would be fucking great)

>>41982058

This is a solid point as well. Although if we do decide to go away from choosing gardens here, I vote that we start construction on some anyway. Eventually we'll get enough marital bliss points to mind-meld with Alyssa and begin our spousal reign of terror.

>>
>>41982103
Honestly, you only get to improve two stats with each house fortune roll. Basically each house needs to choose two "Key stats" and stack all the bonuses to those two so that you can actually USE the bonuses. For Bordain it would be Power and Wealth. Any other stats we need we can buy with Wealth.
>>
>>41982098

If we go for crypts, won't their construction predate us by quite some time, and thus be filled with not-Bordains? Fuck that, we don't need spoopy ghosts trying to kick us out of our castle.
>>
>>41982164
But spooky scary skeletons would be AWESOME
>>
>>41982047
Scholar is supposed to be a different thing from Maester, I think. Maester costs 10 wealth, and gives +3 to House Fortunes, Scholar costs 5 Wealth, and gives +1 to House Fortunes and the knowledge bonus.

>>41982047
Tallied the votes. Forge, Yard, and Maps won by a landslide.

Putting on my narrator voice:

Korbis leads you and Alyssa through the halls.

"My lord, if I may speak bluntly, whoever built this castle was a hard son. The walls, as you know, are thick and sturdy, and bear little decoration."

You nod, gesturing to your wife "So Alyssa has reminded me. We may wish to find some tapestries, to add warmth to the halls."

Korbis tilts his head in acknowledgment.
"And other than your solar, my lord, we can find no indication that the original owner cared for anything beyond war. Unless this room had a less aggressive purpose."

He has lead you to a room some twenty feet deep, not too far from the throne room, in fact. Its walls bear shelves filled with parchments and scrolls.
"A scriptorium?" You venture.
"A map room, my lord." Korbis explains, taking scrolls from the shelves and spreading them on a great central table.

"Many of the maps are old, but from what we can tell, they are accurate from a geography stand-point. We'll ge newer ones for the political situations. But look at these, William."

He shows you a series of carven markers, clearly made to show the forces of various leaders. There are the dragons of Targaryens, the Lions and Stags and Wolves, and some you don't immediately recognize. Two are the main focus for For, however.

He hands you a stag, and gestures you turn it over. On the bottom, it's marked "Dur." in a sharp hand.
"Dur? Could our carver not spell?" You jest.
"Durrandon, William," your wife corrects. "The name of the house that became Baratheon. That means these markers come from BEFORE the Conquest. That figure is almost 300 years old."

The next one was a shield with two chains across it. You recognize this one. "Hoare. This is the mark of House Hoare."

Step your game up, pleb. Do you even into yandere Westerosi Lord?
>>
>>41982662

In modern time, House Hoare was mainly remembered for their last scion, Harren the Black, who finished his own great castle, Harrenhal, the same day the Targaryens landed in Westeros. He died burning his halls under dragonfire a few weeks later.

This room bore the armies of wars ten generations won and lost. You shuddered under the weight of it.

As you leave the dusty scrolls of the map chamber, you descend further and further into the castle, until you reach Ilwin's forge.

"My lord, Ilwin discovered recently that one of his walls was, well, not fully a wall. It appears someone built the wall over an alcove. He didn't discover it until testing your dreadnought armor. The hammer it was struck with rebounded out of the warrior's grasp, piercing the alcove wall. We cleared it out, and we found the alcove was in fact a dividing wall to a grander forge. When we started the forge, william, the flames were...white. They burn white and grey. And hot as a..." He realizes your wife is standing beside you. "Summer's day." He lamely finishes. "Further, the books and scrolls kept here have some interesting information. It seems this fire is...well, if what Ilwin says is true, this forge could re-cast Valyrian steel."

...That rocks you. There are maybe a dozen smiths in all the WORLD that could do such a thing. To have a forge built for that purpose here is... tempting, in many ways.

Finally, you ascend and exit to behind the castle. You note for the first time that there is a cave-like ampitheater here. Korbis again explains.

"And this, as far as we can tell, was a training yard. Ingenious, in some ways. He could train his armies here, inside the castle walls. We found traces of ancient weapon racks, and in some of the older store rooms, we've found training equipment. There's a platform here," he gestures "That we're replacing. From it, one man could lead a hundred in drills. Who cares you're besieged if you can train your reinforcements behind the walls?"
>>
In all seriousness, Glasshouses would actually be really useful for providing food during winter/possibly sieges.
>>
>>41982851
We should have six wings of the castle, one with a forest, one with a volcanic mine, one with a half-frozen lake, one with spooky magics and skeletons, and one with sand and lasers.
>>
>>41982922
But you know what they say about those who live in Glasshouses~
>>
>>41982948
That they don't fuck with the Iron Lord if they want their silly tongues nailed to a wall?
>>
>>41982948

If anyone threw a stone in the general direction of the keep in which rests Lord Bordain's wife and unborn child, a genuine and terrifying hell would be set loose upon the world.
>>
>>41982916
You and Alyssa return to your rooms after the tour, your head at least spinning with implications.

Robert didn't just make you a Lord. He gave you a stronghold as dangerous to siege as the Eyrie.

You wonder if he will regret that plan.

ROLL A SHIT TON OF DICE.

Specifically, I want to see you roll 10d6.

Due to the fact that our castle is on a Mountain, attackers can't bring siege weapons to bear against us, meaning any attempt to storm us would be drowned in its own blood. The only weaknesses in our defense are long sieges and treachery from within.

Fluffwise, we can tie it in to that bard we hired prior to going to Jon Arryn's party thing.

Also, speaking of Oberyn Martell:

This is badass upgrade. All assassins, spies, saboteurs, or other enemy agents have the difficulty of cunning tests increased by 6, we get Connections all throughout our domains, and any penalties associated with our population are reduced by one. We're trying to take on Oberyn, Tywin, Robert, and possibly Jon Arryn. It's an incredibly efficient and powerful holding.

Cataphracts were essentially heavy ranged cavalry. They were trained to fire a bow accurately while mounted. Due to their heavy armor, they could approach an enemy force without taking much in the way of damage, and surround them.

This is the signature of the cataphracts. Like a swarm of sharks, they would surround an enemy unit in a flowing circle, and using shortbows, would proceed to murder the fuck out of everybody unfortunate enough to be inside their circle. Then they would move on.

Yes, but no.

Here's what happened: you guys bought an architect and a mason's guild to do that when Princely's pastebin was our only resource. with the OOSP rules those still exist, but the mason's guild no longer modifies build times. BUT, princely also priced both of them higher than OOSP, so I used your excess wealth, plus these 5, and you got all three.

Architects do reduce by 10%. Originally, the constructions would have taken 52 months (48 with Architect) Now, I applied the 20% for the engineer first, taking it from 52 to 42, and then the architect's 10% took it to 38.

While we're on the subject of estate holdings, here are some options to consider.

We're rolling +3d6 on wealth, so unless Page expands the stacking bonus chart, we can't buff our wealth roll further. Our HF roll is 2d6, so we should buff that, as well as other stats.

>Food Agriculture
A very efficient collection of bonuses. Unavailable during winter.

>Quarry
10 Wealth for +1 HF and +1 Defense, 15 for +2 to both.

This is the Vale, we should be able to find plenty of stone. Also, a lot of Lifestyle holding require Defense, in addition to fortifications

>Timber
Makes good use of our woods. the mill upgrade directly increases any wealth we gain by 1, allowing us to get even more dosh.

This. Without metagaming, we can safely say that dragons aren't a thing anymore and just go from there.

Will it be obsolete some years from now when Dany tries to invade Westeros? Sure. But that's why we're sending mercenary armies to Essos to keep an eye on that pale ass, and murder if necessary

Maybe, maybe not. Harrenhall cost obscene amounts to keep running, and took a vast amount of food. Each of its towers is practically a full castle, and it's walls are vast. Assaulting Harrenhall would be a nightmare, but starving it is easy.

Most of my threads don't auto-sage until the next day.

Although, to be fair to my panic, we hit page 5 in 17 minutes. I'm certain it'll get slower as we get lower, but that's a large chunk.

We have shockingly high attendance tonight, a good ten more posters than we usually get. We better not have wasted it on rolling d6's for power and wealth.

We need the birth this thread, not next week.

Also for House Actions we can spend our power on some Archers for Finn and co.
Speaking of which, how is he doing? We're about at the point where we should be getting a status report.
>>
>>41986099
I'm putting in a vote for buying the kennels holding, on its own only boosts house fortune but we an upgrade it get WAR HOUNDS which provide a substantial bonus to our soldiers and GUUARD DOGS which gives another +3 to resisting spies and saboteurs.

>>
>>41986117
I will say, I like the new system a bit more.

Like, I'm more excited for house fortune rolls, since there's a higher chance of things going screwy.

Also, adorable.

Power and wealth leads by a mile, so
you get 7 power! and...Holy shit.

9 wealth.

You receive a single digit wealth boost.

Your totals are now 19 wealth and 11 power

Take two house actions, and brace yourselves.
>>
>>41986177
Did we get our second batch of Engies or not? Page wasn't clear on if we bought them. If so, Finn can't handle more than 2 units of Engineers with his Warfare skill

With the 5 ability cap Page instituted, Elite isn't really that much of an improvement over Veteran.

More importantly, Archers shouldn't be getting damaged, which means they don't need the toughness of Elite troops and they can rely on gaining experience through combat, as they can gain training easily from battles.

Finn can't actually use 8 catapults with his Warfare skill. Might as well fill out the last 2 slots with Scorpions in case of armored units getting too close for comfort.

>>

Elite is nice, but another 2 points in your best/second best skill is objectively worse than 2 points in your 3'rd best skill.
>>
>>41986316
They use Warfare for rolling their attacks, but Finn is the commander of the army. An army can only shoot a number of Siege Weapons a round equal to it's leader's Warfare rank.

Siege Weapons can only fire every other turn, so the effective cap is 2x your commander's Warfare.
>>
>>41986292
It definitely is.

It is literally the only thing I really cared about doing today.

I'm going to have this month's action be "Engineers and Sewers," Because Help Painted Dogs isn't technically an action. (It's more a personal one than a house one, though things like starting up the food agriculture help Them.)

If you REALLY want to help them, throw Seasonal Martial Culture festivals, and start building more estate holdings. That gives them jobs, keeps them drunk and happy, and lets them show off their combat skills to impress pretty girls.

I don't particularly like the idea of buying a second unit of engineers when they're only adding two catapults to the army. Rather than using 9 power and 9 wealth to buy a second unit of engineers with 2 catapults and 2 scoprions we could use 15 power (some of which will be made converting the wealth we saved) to buy elite cavalry-archers

BOOM. IT IS DONE.

Elite Engineers acquired, siege weapons get worked out later.

AND NOW.

William was outside, in the courtyard. His shirt was off, his chest shining with sweat. He held a pick in one hand, and a shield in the other. His tousled dark brown hair was starting to droop, wet with exertion.

He faced a steely wall of a man, Hammer wide and ready.

"c'mon you bastard." William taunted. "Take your best shot."

The man didn't respond, instead passing to his right, trying to move in on William's shield. His great hammer could crack it in half with a single swing, if he was lucky. But he was a patient man. He knew he could wear the Steel Lord down. Anger might power the Grey Giant, but here, now, his fear was making him sloppy.

William lashed out with his pick, the tip catching the hammer's haft, and with a heave, he sought to rip it from his foe's fingers. Instead, the wall came charging into him. The Armored figure toppled onto William, pinning him beneath his massive bulk.

"By the Crone, Egar, get off me!" William shouted. "Before you crush the life from me and my wife has to kill you!"

His bodyguard dutifully rolled to the side, clearing William's rise.

William rose, pacing the yard, his agitation clear.

"it's been hours, Egar. Too many bloody hours. Why am I out here? I should be in there, with her."

"You were kicked out after you tore apart the third seat pillow in anxiety, my lord."

"YES, EGAR. I KNOW." William cried out. "Kicking a lord from his own castle. I'LL SHOW THEM WHO COMMANDS HERE."

"My Lord, I think in this matter, the Maester does."

William, about to shout again, deflates.

"I...need to do something. I'm going mad, Egar."

"Then let us return to the waiting room. We can learn of any progress."

Sighing, william walks to the castle doors.

"Though my lord may wish to don a doublet beforehand. Meeting one's child undressed is surely some form of social misstep."

>>
>>41986518

Two voices echoed down the hall.

"It's just stupid, Egar. The Baby is naked. It shouldn't matter if I'm dressed or not."

"I merely remind my lord that I have never heard of a Lord greeting his son bare-chested."

"I've never heard of a Lord or Lady having the shits, Egar. That doesn't mean I think they don't have them."

"Just so, my lord."

They enter the waiting room, what they had all taken to calling William's solar, to find Arban sitting calmly, with a hot pot of tea before him.

"ARBAN!"

"My Lord William should not shout. He will disturb his lady wife. She has already been disturbed enough."

William's voice pitches to a harsh whisper.

"Is it done, then?"

Arban smiles broadly, spreading his hands. "Was there a doubt?"

"My child lives?"

"Lives, and lives again, my lord. You should see them."

William stares at Arban for a moment, his blank eyes showing no comprehension, before he whirls to the bedroom door.

He opens it with surprising gentleness, muttering under his breath about "cryptic sand snakes" and threatening to "ram his riddles down his throat."

He steps into the room, to find the Lady Alyssa in her bed, holding a bundle of cloth. And...a bundle of cloth?

He whispers to her, his voice that same rumbling bass she's come to know "Boys, Girls?"

"One of each, husband. Here, meet your son."

She hands him her beautiful baby boy, already asleep, tired from the day's events.

He takes the baby in his hands, its small form seeming even smaller.

"Did you choose a name?" She asks him.

"Yes." he says. "We shall name him

Anti-majorities, while probably not actually what they are called, are definitely a thing. If there are 10 people, and 4 of them want Mexican, and 5 want anything BUT Mexican, going to a mexican place is clearly the wrong option.

(The right option is for the two groups to split up, or to use simple "Who's okay with X" through all options, but since we can't prove anyone here isn't reposting, the latter is impossible, and the former is impossible because it's a shared narrative.) So we just have to fight some more.

>Harwyn, for his coming greatness
Now, did people pick Aurelle because they thought it was the best choice, or because that was the first name submitted and they wanted a clear majority?

Then keep opinions like those to yourself, huh? Proclaiming your opinion to influence the vote is judging.

It was not. I think.

I voted for it 'cause it honors a dead relative.

Plus it doesn't mean nonsense on Planetos.

I read that as "Aurele with the first e having a grave accident" and thought that you mean that removing an e made it a male name.

Like I said, not here to judge. There have been multiple choices over the quest I didn't like. But I support your right to make your choices.

I didn't realize strawpoll prevented that. I'll use it for the sister if we have a huge lock-up.

>>41987117
That's why it's in a spoiler. Though, I should have put a specific warning on it. That's my bad.

No, don't put it in a post at all, it will influence the vote, and betray voters.

Tacky naming fight!

May we get to naming the daughter now?

Y'know, this is a hassle, we should just let Alyssa name our daughter.

I answered it specifically because I was asked my opinion on a post, and couldn't tell if they meant the specific phrasing, or the overall argument.

And honestly? If you're going to use the word "betray" to describe an argument about what to name the fictional child of a fictional person, you may need to calm down. Stating my opinion may influence things, but it doesn't 'betray' anyone.

My apologies if that sounds arrogant or harsh, it's the end of a long day. I'm trying to be reasonable, but I know I can get snappy.

...

And now you guys tied on Harwyn and Aurelle.

FUCK IT.
1 Harwyn

Page is mistaken and is lecturing me when his premises for doing so are faulty.
>>
You'd better roll a dice for the daughter's name
>>
>>41987316
I think we're letting the wife name our daughter.
>>
Friends, let us stop complaining and arguing. We have finally reached a goal that has been out of our reach for so long. Let us bask in this moment and not be nasty to each other.
>>
Lets vote quickly on the daughter's name

Mira and Arwen have both been suggested.
If people are tired of arguing over names, Page could pick his favorite/roll randomly between those two or any other nomination you want to put forward in the next 5 minutes.
>>
>>41987333
Nah, let's just let our wife decide, she's smart.
>>
>>41987325
>>41987333

We can compromise between expediency and player agency: We nominate names, and Page, picks his favorite to be Alyssa's suggestion.
>>
>>41987333
Nah, the wife's choosing it for us.

>>
>>41987333
Your suggestions are shit
>>
The problem is that you are just foisting the job off on Page, who thought that Robert, Tywin and Aegon would be something we might consider.

We don't want to get into another fight, so we can just put forward some choices for Page to choose between.

"Aurelle, for my lost Brother."

Alyssa is slightly shocked. Wiliam never speaks about his brother. To name a child for him, they must have been close, but then why does he never speak of it?

He's a mystery, her dear husband. Always with some new revelation. Alyssa smiles. "A fine name. I'm certain he'd be proud."

She holds forth her daughter.

"And the girl?"

William looks at Alyssa. "It would be unfair to name them both, wouldn't it? You should name her. One apiece, that's fair."

It's a sweet notion. Somewhat simpleminded, but endearing nevertheless. Alyssa thinks on this for a moment. She comes to a conclusion.

"We'll call her Ariana."

And she held her daugher, and Page held his son, and the Line of Bordain had begun.

THREAD DONE

As noted earlier in the thread, this may be the end of the quest for a while.

As has been brought up in previous threads, I'm currently undergoing a transition, having started the process of quitting my job, and moving across the state. Further, school has started, so I now have responsibilities in the evening again.

However, depending on if any of the applications I have get accepted, I may move to find myself without a better job, and now away from my responsibilities and friends!

So, if I run the quest again in 4 weeks, things went bad.

If not, I'll try and work out time in my schedule to do this, it'll just take a while to set-up and work out. Likely on Sundays or Mondays.

>>41987490
I wouldn't do that.

I've already put myself in the Quest twice already. Why would I WANT the MC?
>>
>>41987528
Thanks for keeping us in the loop Page. Goodnight
>>
>>41987501
Thank you for the thought.

It actually wasn't a TERRIBLE day. Just...almost every single thing had a largely frustrating element.

>Last night
I'm teaching a friend magic, so I give him a good deck, and pick up a janky one. So I'm intentionally getting my shit kicked so he can see how the rules work. A little irritating.

We go to get a midnight snack from the grocery store 100 feet away from my complex, to find my least favorite tenant in the lobby. Turns out someone called the cops on some people arguing in the parking lot, and no one called me. Tenant gets to talk down to me for being ignorant.

End up blowing off steam in following games until 3 AM.

Which of course means I over-sleep today, losing an hour and a half I was gonna use to set-up the pastebin and stuff.

Go to work, pretty easy day, but first the engineers presenting bad mouth the idea that ART MOVES PEOPLE. (Seriously that was the opener.) In a theater. With Theatre workers providing their support. And then they go 30 minutes over when I'm supposed to be done, with another 45 cleaning up their shit.

Then I jog home, at this point 5 hours without food, to find one of my tenants needs an ambulance, killing my ability to eat before the thread.

So, it's now 1 in the morning, and I ended up eating half a bag of sour patch kids as my only sustenance, and drinking a pint of soda.

And I can't eat now because I'm about to go call it a day.

I know, huge whiny blog post. But, hey. I waited for everything important to be over.

>>41987620
no prob. keep an eye on my twitter for updates.

I really want to see you guys fight the Greyjoys.
