In which we talk about the results of levelling up, and possible balancing issues that have come up during the run.

==
It would seem that there is an imbalance in the action economy between the Militia class and the Mage class, as the former fires every other turn while the latter performs combination spells per action. This issue can be addressed in one of two ways.

1. Give the militia better action economy by improving their ammo count.
Side effects: Bookkeeping would have to be more regimented as the amount of hidden numbers and sub mechanics increase with all guns.

2. Mage classes would have to perform their spells in two phases: The Casting, in which words are uttered in combination according to their book's stats, and the Trigger which can take the form of a Trap Rune, an active action, or as a delayed action.

Side Effects: This mechanic would affect all spellcasters that use the Runic system. And open up the possibility for counter spells if one is able to percieve which runes are being used.

3. The Classes are balanced
Side Effect: We would have to examine the effective strengths and weaknesses of the two roles and accentuate them in further games.

Hullo! I have been waiting for this thread! As for balance two thins have been taking my attention.

1) Why are [R]ogues the weakest by far when melee class? Even mages have 2 hearts. Sure they have 3 Actions but still they will be much closer to the fire than the. They are glass cannons by the extreme.

2) M[I]litia is a ranged class yet it have 4 hearts and can self heal with bread, while [H]unter has only 2 hearts and they are hybrid melee/ranged.
>>
>>41992302

I'm in favor of number two personally
>>
>>41992505
I think Rogues might need like, an extra heart. Or maybe half heart?

Militia have lower defense and mobility than hunters. Higher than mages, though.
>>
>>41992505
1. Rogues are not meant for direct combat. But lateral assaults, and improvising in tough situations. When they carry out operations there is definitely a heavy chance of risk. Having many actions is a big deal. As for their poor equipment, that is part of their class. They are supposed to steal them.

2. The [I] is a strange class that has a very specific strength; Outlasting the enemy and holding positions. Offensively, they can only assist from the rear and in melee offer some spare damage with their bayonets. More importantly they are granted both the strength and the weakness of being able to be left alone without requiring too much support, which makes for decent scouting. Meanwhile the hunter while mobile is meant for lateral assaults and essentially delivering the killing blow to most baddies. So far they have lived up to expectation.
>>
Though If I'm not kidding myself I dont see a problem with giving hunters and rogues a bit more health.

Side Effect: Knights would get more health
>>
>>41992609

.
I get that, from the great utility of their skills this is apparent. However some kind of escape mechanism or a way to keep out of harm's way, no necessarily more hearts. As since the only thing that is not melee is throwing weapon they still need to a way to get to melee or run away without being shot down half way.
>>
>>41992687
So how is some of the loot going to be distributed? It seems like certain stuff has level requirements to use? Reaper's scythe is a level 2 weapon, for example?
>>
>>41992609
>>41992687
Damn, I am nervous I type like I can't even speak English! Okay calm down...

On the other hand I gotta say I love what you did to guides, being able to heal from range give so much more possibilities to actually be useful in the chaos of battle instead of running to everyone to melee heal ot needing to use mind link.
>>
>>41992687
The black market/ or rogue's guild could come up with a fast fix. Spec classes could also address this :v

> Doing the content for that will probably take me a week though.
>>
>>41992751
It is but a suggestion I do not see the whole picture you are the one that does see it. Still glad that you are open for ideas.
>>
>>41992302
>>41992609

If other guns change how the [I] works, then
perhaps avoid changing too much right now.

However, Mages are "Better", even at ranged support or holding a position. Casting 2 spells in a row means they can just stand still and blast everything. 2x Fire Ball is 10 magic damage? A fired Militia gun does 4 AP. A rogue hitting you 3 times in a row does 6 damage. A knight can do 4. A hunter hits you twice using the Chain of D. Goya? That's 10 too! But that takes an item and focus and slows down your movement.

I think limited mages to a single spell per phase is the wiser choice. Ball+Ring is still 1 grenade a turn, Arrow+Ball is still 5-6 squares of Conal death but they don't "double-tap" like Jackied id at the end there. There's also no... avoiding their spells? You can get out of range of melee, and a gun only fires 1 so if someone is facing them with a shield or just in a group they're basically okay. A mage gets two shots with AoE. Most stuff dies.

So limit mages to 1 spell per phase. Maybe increase the "value" of firing your gun for a [I]? It's a powerful weapon, but I'd up the damage by 1 - that's 6 AP dng with Packed Shot.

Since Friendly Fire is a thing, and bullets penetrate then that makes making sure you're firing at the right target in the right direction really important, but you're still going to get swamped because you can only fire once and you need to reload.

Two militia working together gets pretty okay though, since one shoots and the other reloads. [I1] Buck and [I3] Trigger was an okay team at the end. If [I] can also self heal and have binoculars then they can indeed plonk themselves down and hold ground.

Anyway, yeah. [M4] killed everything with Fire Arrow. If that was 1 Fire Arrow a turn it'd still take out 6 targets, but now the ones alive would get closer and force a reliance on the kinghts.
>>
And I second that rogues might need 1 more heart.

The problem is that they have Def 1, but Def 1 does nothing - no enemy we faced did only 1 damage. So the minimum damage done was 2, which gets taken down to 1 for rogues - but 1 is still enough to KO them and leave them unable to act further!

I'd suggest "Rogue Agility"? Because they're so fast, they can move even when bleeding, but only get 2 actions instead of 3? Then if they get stabbed by something nasty, they can still maybe make it toward a healer.

Alternatively +1 Def means they need to face the right way at the right time to avoid a blow, but they remain as "Fragile" as always because there's going to be more enemies when you're out alone and a single blow in the wrong place KO's them again.

Of course, if a rogue used Steal to get a Shield of some type, that rogue would now have Def 3 and Act 3? So maybe rogue's are actually okay and they just need to be careful? A rogue blew up a well all by itself. With fore-knowledge of what's in an area (help by [I]) or some proper planning, they're really good.

But their mistake cost is high, I guess. The slightest scratch puts them under.
>>
Standing rules on postgame rewards is thus:
>>41992741
1. Everytime you clear a floor you may gain an extra skill within your class. This also
>Increases your level by one.
2. Loot can be banked [in your private stash] or given to someone else. It can also be sold for Zenny [working currency.

Banked Loot rules:
>Once banked, can't be accessed from the next floor.
> Banked loot can be withdrawn by owner. However if the owner is dead, their party members unless the owner themselves was murdered by our hand - in which case its only sporting that I dispose of their belongings for the malebolgia to take lest we are cursed. It's the most I can do for letting me chronicle your travels :v
>>
>>41992863
>Of course, if a rogue used Steal to get a Shield of some type, that rogue would now have Def 3 and Act 3?
Let us keep in mind that the Rogue will have to spend a skill point to actually get stealing and obtain their utility. If someone does not take the stealing skill the whole thing is moot.
>>
>>41992741
I guess people decide who they want to have what? Here, I made a list.

Reaper Scythe [ Lvl2, +2 magic, +2 atk ]

Chain of D. Goya [chain, +2 dmg, Crushing!, -1 Mov]

Reaper Blood [item]

The Last Word [book, +2 Magic, DARC]

Shepherd's Cane [cane, Range 2, Mag+1, Atk+1]

Mask of the Forgotten [mask, +2 Mag, +1 hp]
---

What is DARC?
>>
>>41993072

DARC is Dark magic. Incidently, every mage had a ? book that they didn't open, it would have given you access to another element.
>>
>>41993072
I'm cool with the level up others can take the items. Like Sheperd's Cane looks like something for a Guide but for me would almost be a downgrade since I don't plan to melee and it would just reduce casting range by one and doesn't really offer anything over the basic wand.
>>
>>41992863
(Clarification: Def 1 does nothing *for rogues*, since any excess damage taken at all deals 1 hp and all melee attacks did 2 or more damage, so they go straight to KO. If they had 0 defense, they'd go straight to -1. In both cases, they need a heal to survive and be able to act again.)
>>
>>41992940
>>41992940
An explanation of Steal and Switch:
Steal: With both hands emptied, a rogue can steal any equipment from their opponnent and effectively equip it right away.
Switch: With one hand free, a rogue can trade the current item they have on hand with an enemy's.

These two skills run into some snags when:
> Equipment level is higher than your level, resulting in halved effectiveness.
> Weapon requirements dont match your stats
resulting in stat penalties.

Darc:
The 6th Element on the aetheric table and possibly the last. It is associated with the Void, not to be confused with the malebolgia but not entirely unlike it. Darc as a runic element allows one to manipulate negative energies only in context with existing ones. It is famously used for spell cancelling, shadow binding, and energy stealing.

However now that you have two books you can only cast with one, and use the elements of that one. However I have seen two mages cooperate fusion spells before... it takes quite a bit of coordination however.
>>
>>41993107
Well everyone was about to get trampled by a giant shark monster / blood magic reaper statues / blood crazy bagmen cultists / the avenging appirations of time and darkness come to claim the land in the name of the forces of Malebogia

I think people can be forgiven for not finding the time to read ^^
>>
>>41993183

Understandable, and you were doing just fine with the one element.
>>
Patch results are in:
> Rogues gain 1hp giving them 2 heartbeats before dying.
> Instructions for priming and casting spells will have to be included in the unit cards but will likely require a field test. Increases in their abiltiy to prime more runic combinations will be associated with stronger equipment. [Offboard]
>>
>>41993347
>Thinking on it now however, it might be problematic if casting REQUIRES two whole actions as opposed to only being limited to once a turn.
>>
>>41993347

What if you reduce their MAG?

Right now it's 5 total, so two spells are VERY powerful. If it was 3 total (2+1) then you'd get

2 arrow
3 ball
1 ring
block

Which if you do 2 spells is comparable to firing a gun, attacking twice with swords and chain. If a Guide Channels to you, then your spells gain vastly increased powers which is really important and makes channeling more important rather than an extra flourish.

Being able to do 2 spells a turn is only really an issue when the spells are also quite astronomically powerful and tear through multiple enemies.

Giving someone an item (The Last Word) then gets them to the level they were at for the last Skirmish, which is a level that's quite powerful and good. But that's okay, because it takes a special item and requires acquiring powerful artefacts from Reaping Angels.
>>
>>41993553
I cannot see them going below [3+1]
>>
>>41992779
>>41993553
I thought most things had 1 MDEF or better, am I mistaken about that?
>>
>>41993691
However I see the point to this and I'm agreeable to.

1. Changing their base stats to [3+1] to retain action economy.
2. Giving them a two step requirement for spells so that [counter spells, held spells, combination spells, triggered spells] becomes viable. Essentially you would [Load] a spell for later use. You will either see; two prepared spells go off on the same turn, two spells get prepared in the safety of cover, or an alternating process of moving and preparing, and moving and casting.

To sweeten the deal, passing words to a fellow mage to complete the spell would create either a multi- elemental experiment, or a multi- word chain that normally becomes only possible in higher levels.

>>41993766
-The weakest creatures can only have 1Mdef.
-A creature with 0Mag becomes aethernumb automatically, making them formidably resistant to magic.
- Every enemy from this point forth can only really get stronger against magic before elemental vulnerabilities kick in in later floors.
>>
>>41993691
Hey, it's your game! You understand the deeper underlying stuff behind it better than I do.

I mean, as soon as an [I] gets their uniformed hands on a different gun maybe the keys to having one shot a turn works out? It could just be that there's not enough data to know for sure that this is even an issue. Maybe option 3 is the right option!

Maybe an action a word? Ball+Ring is a good combo. Arrow+Ring is a conal shotgun I think? Arrow, then Arrow is a pair of good spells but individually somewhat weak if not propped up by magic.

That makes more advanced spells take slightly longer but the pay off is greater. While simple spells can be dual cast. So you get to pick? If your book allows it you could even channel really big spells together over multiple turns.

I'm no expert, I just like meddling about with game mechanics.
>>
>>41993864
Oh, this is actually good. That could work very well, since it makes mage-teams working together valuable and also gives a bit of flexibility while preserving magic.

Stand still, but get to cast. Move, and prepare.

Maybe two mages move and cast together? Great! But now they're really close together and an easy target for strikes. Counter some-one else, combine spells. I think that might work really well. It's still "balanced" against guns, since [I] need to prime+fire too.
>>
>>41993919
This was thought about earlier actually. But as levels demanded for more daring spells, it was ultimately very risky to sit around for 3 turns for what could be a spell a that might miss or worse, win the game XD. It also ran into problems of what sort of spells would exist at higher tiers and how would equipment contribute ? Grimoires essentially fixed this problem with a word stat which acted as both a spell cap and a speed-loader of sorts. It would retain its and internal consistency if the two-step method came into play. It would just be a seperate action to CAST or put down spells.

Just thought i'd say this since game theory is fun to discuss
>>
As for [I] , don't despair. Fun hardware is on the horizon.

At what point are we allowed to create/use custom skills?

And do we have a skill limit?
>>
>>41994099
Hm, I see. That is an issue, especially since it rewards turtling too much. [Prepare]+[Cast] works better, and also scales with "advanced spells" just fine.

If you're answering questions - what's the final item on the [I] list? Is it 3x bread, 2x incindiary, 1 binocular and 1 mysterious flask?

Delicious vodka?

>>
Being a rogue is incredibly fun with the zipping around the battlefield. However with how often I see myself dying in the future I fear I will never get beyond two skills. Which means if I ever want to have a character more long term that actually gets to level up beyond level 1 I'd be better off being another class.

The problem is two fold.

Rogues work best beyond enemy lines, scouting out possible problems and wrecking havoc. Meaning there is no handy [G]uide around for them to heal up when they inevitably run into danger.

Which brings up the second problem. There is no disguise or hide mechanic beyond freeform attempts like putting on enemy clothing. Meaning I cannot tell if I've been discovered so if I run into someone who sees me I cannot tell if I should run away or continue on pretending.

Hence my sudden but inevitable death when the gunner I had no idea had sussed me out killed me.

Of course since I do like being a rogue I'll continue on as is but I would like to eventually try out how well a 3 skill rogue performs.

Stunning is useful but you are also knocking back 1 tile which can be very hand to knock them off a ledge or into the area where the opponent can get taken out. Forcing the enemy to move in a controlled fashion is a very powerful thing keep that in mind.
>>
>>41995818
Knights aren't mobile enough to really take advantage of knock-back fully. Only 2 move and 2 actions means at most I will be able to get to one side of someone already in front of me.

I wish knights had 3 actions. That combined with 2 move would mean I would be a melee monster that could slowly clear a path, not just a wall that occasionally moves to be a wall somewhere else. It would also mean my full out sprint would match the average everyone else.
>>
>>41996731
Figures but the opportunity is still there.

>>41994170
Another question, do the stuns from backstab and Shield bash also work on bigger monsters like the giants that we fought last session?
>>
>>41994517

There were multiple times during the last mission where being able to hit multiple targets (like an approaching row of mooks) would've been incredibly beneficial.

That, and making that bind thing I pulled an actual skill would also be good, since immobilizing big monsters without putting myself at risk of being beaten/eaten/cut up also sounds good, especially when we have squishier characters nearby attacking.
>>
>>41995069
The funny thing is that right now, you must be both very happy and also quite disappointed.
>>
>>41997644
Hunter - Suspension. Binds target, causes it to take more damage.

Rig - Spend a chain, rig a tile.

Both of which stop people in their tracks. I think Hunter's should hunt, and focus on single target damage and using mobility + range to swoop about and hit valuable targets.

If you get Move 4, 3 Atk, 2 def, 2 hp, 3 range, the ability to heal with damage *and* AoE then I think perhaps hunters are just a little too powerful. Keep AoE effects on Knights, who in the middle of people, Militia who have guns, Mages who use magic.

That said I guess something like ground slam could work. Make "Rig" a skill based on the chains, since it's what the chains are used for, and then move Ground Slam to a Hunters.

(Knights can't use ground slam right now because their atk is 2 and it does -1 damage, then -2 damage. So it'd only do 1 damage even to an enemy with 0 defense, then 0 damage to anybody else. It's a skill that's literally weaker than your normal basic swing! There is no situation where you're not better of using Spin Slash, which hits everyone around you (including the guy right in front!) at full damage.

A hunter could bang the chain down in a row more realistically, but then I'd make the entire full 3 range -2 dng, so you hit three targets all for 1 hp, trading power for ability to inflict group damage)
>>
>>41997814

Suspension on it's own doesn't stop the monster from beating me to a pulp.

Rig would, but I have to use it in conjunction with suspension.

A binding throw thing would simply be a way to stop a foe in their tracks from a distance without putting myself at extreme risk or without having to setup beforehand at the cost of a chain.

The AoE attack would be something like swing, where the hunter swings the chain blades horizontally in front of them in a left-right movement.

Our mages already have a "piercing" ability, but it radiates from them. This swing attack would be more of a crowd control so that in the event a hunter gets cornered by a mob, they can make space.

The attack pattern would be more like:

XXX
#H#
###

Where X's are where the attack is.
>>
>>41997814
Actually Knights are a bit weird overall. They all spent very much effort moving towards the enemy, essentially playing catch up with everyone else.

Counter and Spin Slash are great and thematic, but Ground Slash cripples you. Even at higher atk you can replace it with moving one step to the side and one step forward, then using Spin Slash. If the enemy is standing behind each other

X
KX

Now you hit 2 enemies for full damage, whereas with Ground Slam you'd hit two a row for much less.

Shield Bash stuns and knocks back, but I don't see much use for the knockback. You're putting the enemy out of your own reach, and you have too little move to capitalize. Everyone else is too fragile to get in front of you, and you can't get away because you have such little move. If you Shield Bash then Ground Slam you've just pushed the enemy to a point where you hit them for 0 damage. If it's straight back, you'd need to be really lucky to push someone of a ledge or into something nasty because you don't have enough movement to "Control" the environment to a degree where that's useful.

If you could "Step into" the gap created by the Shield Bash, you could shovel enemy formations around a little and it'd open up a host of slightly more interesting tactics. (shield, then spin or shield then slam) It could also mean you could shove someone away from someone vulnerable, then follow into the gap and finish the job.

It's a bit odd you have to stun, then move forward, then your enemy is stunned for their turn, and then you can finish them. Stunning something seems very useful though.

Hm. But maybe I'm not seeing the real potential. A mage could create a block of fire you could push someone into? You could move around and then push someone, that'd make of off ledges or into things easier... I guess you can slam enemies into each other if they're stacked up. That has to count for something.

A pair of knights can play slow tennis with one enemy?
>>
>>41998033
However, if Ground Slam also caused knockback, then the lessened damage make sense and then the Knight can shovel people around.

With the current damage then maybe if was a cone spreading out like a shotgun? Spinslash hits 8 squares.

So something like.

**###** (-1)
***#*** (-1 + KB)
***K***

Now you hit 4 squares also, for very little damage but if there's people in front of you you can hurt a good chunk and shovel one of them around.

Spawned knights with 2 attack deal damage to a target in front, and a little bit of damage to someone behind.

Maybe knights with more atk can hit targets further back?

*#####* (-2)
**###** (-1)
***#*** (-1+KB)

I'm not sure what's the balancing point here.
>>
>>41997814
Knights have 1 attack on their weapon, is that not included in ground slash?
>>
>>41998891

I don't know. I assumed their listed attack was their total damage with their used weaponry.

Maybe everyone's damage is universally 1 higher? But [K]nights get 1 while [R]ogue's get... -1? +1? M[i]litia get +1 with their bayonet, so does their bayonet do 2?

[H]unters have a very tiny plus but also get +1 from their overcoat (which is badass looking). That +1 atk IS on their atk rating, but the +1 near the chain isn't.

So.. it looks like melee does the damage as listed? There was bunch of throwing knives that did 1 damage and a few backstabs that did 2. But that could be because of melee defense.

Yeah, I don't know.

I have questions.

For Ward does it stay with the tile if the player I cast it on leaves the tile, and if so for how long. I don't want to inadvertently buff enemies.

I know we can cast diagonally, so I I were blue and wanted to cast on both green and pink, would it be possible with a range of 2?

And lastly Since the Wand has no ATK stat and the Reaper Scythe has 2, would my ATK be 2 or 1+2? I'm thinking 2.

>>41992302
>2. Mage classes would have to perform their spells in two phases: The Casting, in which words are uttered in combination according to their book's stats, and the Trigger which can take the form of a Trap Rune, an active action, or as a delayed action.
I like this option stylistically and mechanics-wise. Seems like it would balance and add a lot of freedom of choice to the [M]s

Well, one extra ATK point would be nice, but I really don't plan on hitting anything.

The thing that makes me happy is +2stars. Now channel will give [M]s 4+4 when I channel them, which seems worth having to be 1 tile closer to the action.

That'd be nice, but I figured the shop would be at the start of the next floor/session.

I'd like to keep the Scythe, if that is cool with everyone.
>>
>>42002893
Be calm Hunter Owl. We will see the money once the Scholar has tallied our victories and decided on our recompense.

Hmmm. Speaking of rewards, I'm wondering if there is an upside to losing a skill upon death. Maybe we will be able to claim kills our previous incarnations. Because otherwise there would be no point in not just starting completely anew and have 2 skills instead of 1.
>>
>>42002880

I wanted to see if anything was going to drop from your Iron Maiden.

>>42002907

Speaking of my Iron Maiden, I'm gonna need a new one. Preferably one that won't have to be abandoned while we run helter skelter away from danger. That being said, I don't think my Iron Maiden could kill something that large.

At any rate, I'll probably use my funds from the first floor run to get a new one.

>>
Concerning Knights:
The issues of their effectiveness came into question. Of which I can propose a few solutions.

1. Increase Str by 1
2. Increase Spd by 1
3. Increase Act by 1*
4. Buff Ground slash. >[0,-0,-1,-1]
Side effects:
All Enemy knights will share this upgrade.
*All futur item drops will be adjusted based on which stat is buffed
>>
>>42003327
But the only loot I have to sell is my Chain of Goya!

Maybe I can sell my starting weapon...
>>
>>42003336
Honestly I feel like Spd is the most likely to be an issue. Gotta MOVE to keep ahead of the Malebolgia.
>>
Concerning Hunters:
Their offensive effectiveness is optimal for baseline performance. Weapon drops, and Hunter Items would be required past this point to ensure their further effectiveness and would likewise change their overall attack strategy.

There was talk about making Chains of Goya an AOE weapon if paired with a specific skill as well as a weapon that attacked multiple targets in a line like Richter Belmont's weapon.

iiPlease Look Forward To It!!
>>
>>42003336
I do prefer the extra action over extra speed or strength.
>>
>>42003374
>But the only loot I have to sell is my Chain of Goya!
Don't you do it.

>Maybe I can sell my starting weapon...
You need that for when you need the extra movement.

Assuming none of the other Guides want it, and we don't get money for floor clearance, you can have the Shepard's Cane to sell. I doubt any of them will want it, it trades 1 range for 1 ATK, which is sort of a bad trade for a Guide.

But I think we will get some pocket money for clearing the floor.

>>
If I use Hook and Pull on a rigged tile, is it possible to set it up as a trap (when monster walks within range, gets pulled kind of deal), or does it trigger on the phase that I use Hook and Pull?
>>
>>42005359
Notice me...
>>42002398

*frantic waving ensues*
>>
>>42005896

The above scenarios are legal. A ward being cast affects the tile. When tiles are marked by the caster it counts as being within casting range. A ward can be uncast as a free action. But would have to be reapplied the original way or with the help of anyone with a chalk.

Guides who are channeled to other guides are able to use each others' leylines as well. Channeling works much like a ward except it stays on people instead of a tile.
>>
>>42005833
When an enemy falls on a rigged tile, any number of Hunter actions can be applied like suspension, as well as Hook and pull. When more than one tile is rigged enemies or object occupying those tiles are targetted simultaneously.
>>

>>42006072
So wards are not melee? I was having the impression that you have to walk to the square and draw it on the square manually. Then it dissipates once you get out of the casting range of the ward but it stays as long as you are in your casting range of it.

To be honest ward doe not really seem useful in a game where we are constantly moving around to avoid certain death because haven and hell descends upon us in 5 turns. Like so far fortifying a single square is generally did not seem useful because we are almost never standing around at once place.
>>
>>42006169
Wards should be melee only. Unless you have a chalk on a stick.
>>
>>42006169
When a tile is marked however it will generally remain that way until destroyed or unwritten. Otherwise the concept of remote field control flies out the window and marking tiles becomes useless. For guides this is great to offer healing from a distance, or mark high-value positions.
>>
>>42006231
>>42006231
Wait a minute, so if you place a ward on a tile you can use it to cast spells on the person that is standing on it? Even if you are on the other side of the map?

>>
>>42006609
-Knights were given +1 Spd, but also better swords since they are currently indistinguishable from daggers.

-Rogues are given two full heartbeats before dying.

-Mages now prepare spells with one action, And cast it with another action.

Preparing: Combine up to a number of words equal to your wand's word stat. Certain Spell Assist skills will allow one to pass extra words or a secondary element to another caster.

Casting: Prepared spells that have yet to go off can be casted right away, as a delayed action or marked down as a rune on the ground that will trigger once anyone steps on them. Spells prepared can also be used to [CounterSpell] a potential spell if it is completely identical to the prepared spell, is an an opposed element to that spell, or is Darc aligned spell designed to eat spells.

I believe it's what the kids nowadays call, " An Iron maiden " Great for capturing beasties at low health or entrapping fugitives inside. The result of a returned Iron Maiden may be turned in the Blood Market for a monetary payout, or processed in the Magic Guild for items or raw materials.

A few of these marks find their way into the slave trade, or in the hands of those who have placed a bounty on their heads but those would have to be rather infamous cases, of which there are many "

A desperate attempt at out-running something malicious coming up from the pit, striking worlds bare with absolute death.

Possibly crystals, blood and gold is involved in keeping the things at bay? The crystals freeze time allowing a floor to exist without being subsumed by darkness? Still need more details on that. Curious.

Check the archives for Ironhearts and SkirmishQuest, it'll tell you everything about the type of game. Other than, play when there's a session, pick a class and spawn somewhere and then get immediately slashed in two by an angel of darkness / ripped apart by tridents / stabbed to death / crushed by a statue

then spawn again and hope for better luck. Eventually clamber to victory over the corpses of everyone around you and achieve lasting glory and fame and level ups and skills! Then die and lose it all and repeat. Good times.

You have entered the crystal corridors.
I have done us the honor of reporting what had just happened with the Runner's Guild. There also seems to be word around these halls of a Scholomance and a Red market. Once you have collected your rewards be sure to check those place out.

> Shops have been generated. It seems Rogues and Mages are getting love today. More shops like these generate between every floor so don't despair.

>Runner's Guild:
Everytime you complete a floor, the Runner's Guild will be more than happy to support your cause. Likewise, crimes committed will garner your character infamy but violence in the corridors isn't allowed so bounties can only be carried out on the Floors.

>Scholomance, this fine institution has been around the crystal corridors since time immemorial. Her faculty are undead or immortal but her students scour the floors for magical items and are rewarded with new spells. Turning in artifacts will ensure that they safely do not fall in the wrong hands and could result in more spells being researched.

The Blood Market:
Not to be confused with our fellow cultists, this crime ring has changed seats many times but her traditions remain the same. Wanted persons or creatures often make their way here at the beckoning of gold backed zenny funded by the higher nations and wealthier individuals. While they pay more than the Scholomance for turn ins there's a possibility that we might see the fruits of their black marketing work in the upcoming floors. I still have bad memories of the Midian Ascension some 20 floors ago, mind.

>>
>>42009004

Money for the reverse perhaps, 10 monies for every person they prevent from dying, whether it's reviving from death, or healing through effects that would have killed them.

Hmmm as I remember it;
One need to combine a relevant item like a lantern , piece of equipment, or weapon and then imbue it with the properties of the added ingredient. Not sure it'll help me with my Aquas spells or anything but it's a very good deal. Somewhat less so for classes with more health, but still, the healthiest of us can buy a full heal's worth of llama water for 10z, and it cures two ailments.

Huzzah! Horrendously haphazard violence is, like, the one thing we're all so very good at.

Interesting interesting, thank you, PumpkinJill! SCIENCE!

So we've got Fire, Earth, Water, (Air?), Darc and Lux. Darc is shadows and reversal while Lux reveals and lights.

Reaper Blood is Darc (and a mythos creature, whatever that means) and Alchemist Fire counts as [Fire Element] - I wonder if water, earth and air is equally easily portable in a pot. We can mix it in with usable equipment sometimes, so it doesn't have to be just armor and weapons. I'm going to very, very carefully wrap these rounds and store them in a place where no one trips on them by accident.

Hm. A gun relies on fire to shoot, but I'm thinking getting rushed like we did before is a bad idea? Perhaps (if I can find the connecting plug to de-tach the thing...)

>Visit Scholomance again, buy 1x Alchemist Fire
>Ask PumpkinJill to combine [Blünderbuss Bayonet] with [Alchemist Fire]
>(If illegal because [Blünderbuss] is 1 item, combine with [Blünderbuss])

I guess with armor it'd likely add elemental affinities and help us? Must be something testing we can do.

That's fine Monday, don't worry about it. I'm just glad you're running again. It'd be nice to get the cool little extra, but the classes are pretty cool, so I'll just run with one of them if we need a spare.

Right now I'm just curious on what we're lacking party composition wise and I'll run with that.

Only SLIGHTLY disappointed at not being able to run bat-hunter like I was trying to build for last time (needed the rogue-equiv's knife to get up slopes and some rope and things to basically build up a navigation set up, I'll probably try for the same thing this time, since looking at the spells suggests I can't make a space-time mage here)

Don't ambitiously overwork yourself into a mountainous pile of convoluted updates :v

>>42015755
Making it 4 for the Graveyard, I think.

>>42014924
Oh! I didn't see this. Thanks for the thought! I think it's okay though, with some care. At least I'll always be warm, right?
>>
>>42015455
I agree wholeheartedly with you, it is an excellent wand and would have been a lifesaver in a certain situation last floor. There is no way I'm selling it to Jill.

On the other hand the Reaper Scythe, while it would over heal everyone except a Knight, would be a beast as a channeling tool.

I'm torn between being a better healer or a better buffer.

>>42015616
>Any guides willing to help me experiment?
Oh of course.

>A good place to start would be learning how to cast Ward and Arrow together.
Sounds harmless enough.
But it sounds like Jill is none to happy about the idea.

However the idea of a [G] channeling a [M] and the [M] then casting from one of the [G]'s wards had crossed my mind, since 2 [G]s can /potentially/ do that sort of thing.
>>
Oh other thing. We got a chat channel again? Is the old #Skirmish Channel on rizon back?
>>
>>42015833
>I think it's okay though
It most assuredly is not OK. I will not have you constantly emitting a fresh roasted aroma, it's distracting.

Surely there are 4 others that can spare 50z to get you a crossbow, so you are not constantly on fire.
>>
>>42015840
With consent I shall make that action official

>You discover that the two languages of magic had shared similarities on a fundamental level but only enough to create a grating discord of the senses resulting in a botched spell.

It seems that while possible, there is a certain amount of skill involved in being able to get the two methods of magic to work....
>>
>>42016092
Bummer, we will try harder in the future. Maybe there is an item or spell book out there Jackie.
>>
Fuck it, I'll go hunter and eventually become batman in future!

Indeed, one failure doesn't mean its impossible, merely dificult

Also meant to say, good to see you guys again? Any of the old Ironhearts crowd mixed in with different names?

Night Monday! See you later!

>I don't see the issue...
Well remember when you played pincushion for those trident guys? That -1hp/round would have downed you, and you were really far away from a Guide.
>>
so making a new character just gives me the basics and at the end of next round I'll be able to buy new abilities and skills right?
>>
>>42016727

Confirmed
>>
You start at level 1 with two skills on your sheet and default equipment. A death reduces your skills by 1. Completing a floor increases the number of skills you have by one as well as your level. You do earn Zenny on floor completions and bounties like before.
>>
>>42016773
Can we earn skills by methods other than the ones on our sheet?

Or do we only ever get up to 4 skills maximum?

And I assume that we can revive given that system? On the floor? or just for the next floor?

>Can we earn skills by methods other than the ones on our sheet?
Dunno, there was talk of upgrade classes. Here look at this image.

>Or do we only ever get up to 4 skills maximum?
I think we will get more if the upgrade thing is there, but it may be capped at 4 at any one time.

>And I assume that we can revive given that system? On the floor? or just for the next floor?
Yes you can revive when killed, on the same floor and continue the fight. You can use the same class or a new one, change your name or keep the same one, just keep the same trip.

None of this is official word, just what I have seen happen during the last game.

Okay, hunter question on Hook and Pull.

Do I have to pull somebody from 3 spaces away (or less) to infront of me? Or can I like, jerk them in various directions as long as they only move 3 spaces total and it's within the 3 space range of my weapon? Or can I atleast, for example, jerk them from 3 spaces away and move them only one space closer to me? (if I want to pull them into a pit for example)

This is important because it turns it from a tanking-control skill to a pure control skill.
>>
>>42017333

From what Monday has said, alone it pulls them towards you.

You can pair it with a rigged tile to pull things towards the tile, and not just you.

Don't know about moving them less than 3 spaces.
>>
>>42017365
>>42017370
conflicting answers here... unless Anon meant 'the former'...

I'll plan around it being highly limited then... which is a pity, cause there'd be some FUN shenangians to use with that skill... but I guess I'll team up with a mage who uses "Block" and we can work together to pull people into the middle of fire walls.
>>
>>42017411

I was originally planning to do something similar with a friendly knight. Just sit behind him and pull enemies towards him so he can save his two precious actions for killing instead of walking.

Now I'm planning to go holy chain ninja sniper. With landmines.
>>
>>42017462
I hope you don't have any plans to usurp my role as Iron Maiden Wielder.
>>
>>42017411
See
>>41970933
It might answer your questions, sort of.
>>
>>42017541

I'm just going to use mine to kidnap people/monsters.

>Landmines!
>>
>>42017575
Well yeah, that's what I use MINE for.

That's why I got 3. I'll be pulling in mad loot.
>>
>>42017541
>>42017575
>>42017462
We should figure out a way to all work together. My one goal is to be a speedy mover, hoping to see if I can use Hook and pull on immovable targets to move MYSELF.

I don't care what you guys do... I'm planning on being batman.

Though honestly, wouldn't it be better if we worked together as a trio? Two hooking and pulling and the third iron-maidening and then we split the massive number of bounties three ways after costs? (eg: cost of iron maidens, chains, etc)
>>
>>42017610
hell, one of us gets hook and pull, one of us gets suspension, one of us gets rig! Working together as a team we can do a lot of crazy shit and capture waaaay the fuck more than we kill.
>>
>>42017610

Sounds good to me.

Runner Guide, if I rig a tile, will other hunters be able to use that tile?
>>
>>42017652
No reason why they shouldn't be able to.
>>
>>42017652
he's gone and we're saging hard... do we wait and form a new group?

Or if you guys are interested, I reopened the old #Skirmish channel on IRC, the Rizon server.

https://client00.chat.mibbit.com/
No password, just select the rizon server, and put in "#Skirmish" for the channel if you guys want to continue chatting. Frankly I'm sure I know at least two of you already here (looking at you Coffee, Burkhard) and I'd love to reconnect after all this time.
>>
If a Guide were to buy a maiden, would a friendly Hunter H&P a monster for me?

I'm thinking of buying one just for defense, like how Owl's worked last floor.
>>
>>42017631
I've already got hook and pull, and I'm taking Suspension for my level up.

>>42017718
I wouldn't mind helping you out. Healers are the backbone of this team.
>>
>>42017733
I guess I'll take Hook and Pull as well since those are the key skills along with this one for the purposes of stuff.

Also... we should see if we can pull stuff a part with hook and pulling from different directions at the same time.
>>
To Davzz, didn't mean to drive you off, hopefully if we get the channel active again Monday will return to it on occasion, no promises on that front.
>>
>>42017733
>Healers are the backbone of this team.
We are all gears that make the great machine run, none more important than any other.

>I wouldn't mind helping you out.
Thank you.
