Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you took your half-sister and a friend shopping, and ended up buying a few things for yourself as well.

It is currently the 16th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

The ride to your parent's estate is not nearly as tense as the ride to the strange little artifact shop had been. It seems that much of the animosity between Mortia and Pratima has subsided, with the two chatting passively about just what it is Pratima intends to do now that she's properly equipped for adventure.

Evidently her plans revolve around a a ruin she's heard of to the northeast, in the mountains. She claims that the compound was originally of Hiacian make, but was used by both the ancient Rhynians and Hiacians. Her interest in the site stems from a rumor she heard from a Vatis friend, a Grandmaster, who's been recently doing research into the various experiments conducted by both Hiacians and Rhynians conducted during the wars leading up to Rhynia's collapse and Hiacia's demise. The facility was said to be a treasure trove of valuable data, but nobody has been quite able to locate it.

You listen in absentmindedly to their conversation but are more interested in your own artifacts, particularly the Phoenix Belt. According to the strange shopkeeper the belt will rip away fully half of your soul, storing it within the massive gemstone placed in the center of the elaborately decorated leather girdle. Should you die after wearing the belt, you will be resurrected no matter how severely you might have been wounded. However, the belt will only work once. It is burned away in the process.

You've grown worried that the purchase might have been for naught, as the elaborate runic tattoos you've had inked up and down your forearms are intended to contain “life”, with the exact meaning of the “life” rune remaining unknown. If the rune for life actually means “soul”, then the enchantment you've placed upon yourself could prevent your soul from being tampered with. If that were the case, the belt would be rendered useless to you. Of course you could always give the Phoenix Belt to a companion, but you'd hoped to benefit personally from its power.

Your brooding is interrupted by the carriage coming to a lurching stop. Only moments later Stelios, one of your slaves and your designated driver, pulls the carriage door open for your half-sister. “Arrived at the lands of noble home Abdul-Hakim, we have.” To say that his Samjan was rough would be an understatement.

Addressing Stelios in Rhynian, you lightly correct him. “The word for a 'noble house' or dynasty in Samjan is actually 'rajavansa', not 'thora ghara'. A mistake anyone could've made.” In the interest of expediency, you neglect to mention his various and manifold grammatical errors.

Stelios sighs in frustration, his shoulders going slack. “I'll get it eventually, I'm sure.”

Before she leaves Pratima pulls you into a tight hug, a gesture which you return in kind. “Thanks for taking me with you, Mik. With the artifacts you've bought me, nothing can stand in the way of my eventual rise to fortune and fame. Just wait, by the time you return from Elaudia I'll be sitting on a pile of gold as tall as the Tower of Selepp.”

The two of you separate, and as your half-sister busies herself climbing out of the carriage you respond. “I'll be looking forward to it, Pratima. Just do try not to get yourself killed.”

She responds to your concern with a melodramatic role of her eyes before passing through the gates of your family estate, leaving just you and Mortia in the carriage. You order Stelios to take you back to your own seaside villa, and with a deferential nod he closes the door. It's only moments later that the carriage jerks into motion.

You stuff the belt back into your cloak, resolving to deal with it later. Preferably when you're alone. If it does work, and half of your soul gets ripped out, you'll be pretty much useless until you can find some time to sleep. Instead you extract the twisted construction of iron, wood, and antler that is the Forest King's Crown.

Turning it over in your hands you look for any obvious runes, and much to your surprise you find several. There are three prominent enchantments carved onto the backs of the three iron prongs which protrude from the top of the crown, framed on either side by twisted antlers draped with foliage. You don't recognize any of the base runes, but you do recognize a few of the affecting runes.

The enchantment on the center prong takes advantage of reinforce, contain, and attract. The enchantment on the right prong uses sustain and repel, as well as a number of others you don't recognize. The only two runes you understand in the enchantment placed on the left prong are transmute and leech. All of the enchantments are what you would term 'nested enchantments', that is to say they're composed of several self-contained enchantments acting upon a 'base' enchantment. Far more complex than anything you've attempted to create.

If the Forest King's Crown truly belonged to the first King of the Elves, a man said to have overthrown the dragons which once ruled the land many thousands of years ago, it would be one of the very oldest enchanted artifacts in existence. Still, you're hesitant to try putting the crown on. You don't really know what it does beyond enhancing Nature magic, and for some inexplicable reason it just feels off. It reminds you of the sort of dreamlike quality that a spirit's realm has, as if it existed on the whim of some greater being and at a moment's notice might be gone or altered.

Mortia raises her voice above the dull rumbling of the carriage wheels across cobblestones. “If you'd like I could take a look at it for you. I am, after all, a Grandmaster Nature Vatis.” She declares with no small amount of pride.

You don't really see any reason to refuse her help, so you offer the artifact. She snatches it from your hands eagerly, a slow trickle of magic starting to seep into the air around her as she channels her vys for some spell or another. There's a pulse, and Mortia looks from the crown to the wall of the carriage, her eyes unfocused.

Before you can voice your concern, she snaps out of it. Her attention returns to the crown, and more specifically the runes which are carved into the back of the headpiece. “I think this crown might maintain links of some sort to three locations in the north. At least, there are six tendrils of vys branching off of the crown. I couldn't determine their destination, but they seemed to diverge fairly rapidly in three totally opposite directions. Four seem to be headed almost due north, another northeast. The sixth shoots off west, across the sea.”

Curious. If all the crown did was improve one's grasp of nature magic, why would it need to be linked to anything? Mortia hands the crown back to you, and you swiftly tuck it away inside your cloak. “Any idea what the connections might be? I mean, is the crown leeching vys, or are the connections more like the mental links created by our communication brooches?”

She responds hesitantly. “If they're like the connections created by our brooches, than they're far... well, more powerful would be the best descriptor I think. The tendrils our brooches create are barely noticeable, even to me. If I focus I can see a shimmer in the air between your brooch and mine, but beyond that there's nothing. However, the tendrils from the crown didn't feel like those created by a Leech spell either. To be honest, I simply don't know what they are.”

You suppose it might be worth investigating, once you get back to your estate. For now you decide to change the subject. “Are you looking forward to our journey through Elaudia? From what I understand the plant life can be immensely dangerous, but I imagine with that armor of yours you'll be quite safe from whatever the jungles have in store for us. Perhaps you'll even be able to gather some samples for your alchemy.”

Mortia fidgets uncomfortably in her seat, glancing towards the carriage's window. “I've never really been much of a fighter, to be honest. Back home, I really just relied on my ancestor's artifacts to keep my safe and hidden, as well as my own limited grasp of magic.” She turns her attention once more to you. “What if I end up being useless, or worse yet a burden?”

Ya'll know what we should do? We should make an airship. Then we can put rail guns on it for ultra-high firepower without recoil that would affect the flight. And we could put an altar on it so we could have a portable passage to the Spirit's realm, and by extension Anthus and our Home.

I actually did something fairly similar in another game. Used a wish to get a giant island sized ring of this special naturally magnetically charged iron within which was the rune for 'antigravity' and sunk it into the Earth with magic. Ring popped back up a few minutes later carrying an island-sized chunk of Earth with it. By running electrical current into it, I could make it rise or fall.

Fulvia's Facility, Destroyed Tanks: The first thing that catches your eye are the... statues? You think they're statues facing into the gloom that blankets the chamber beyond the golden glow of your lantern. They're great metal things, a long pole with a hole bored down the center of it extending towards the rest of the chamber. They have four wheeled legs, and they seem meant to be carted around. Some sort of fleshy mass is draped over them though, binding them to the floor.
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/30548262/images/1393624455280.jpg

What might be better is checking the letter for the location of the local Rhynian HQ near El-Amin, so that we could the facility to learn where their airship ports are.

>>31765240
Central Research Station:Then you could also try diving more ruins, unfortunately this one's library was mostly empty but maybe you'll luck out. There's also that encoded missive you found in the commander's office. Some sort of 'central command' facility would probably have way more good stuff than some research station in the boonies.

No, we're going to the Jungle first. Because if we keep faffing about here, Soma's gonna drop a assload of dragons on us. Then, once we have the metal and shit, we can go airship up to go varmint hunting some Sand Worms.

>>42111640
Not a railgun per se. Just a series of rings, each inscribed with repluse+iron, combined in a reinforced tub, with a loading mechanism devised by Skull Kid. Repulse will send the metal shot flying out the barrel, picking up speed as it passes each ring. Skull Kid will design a mechanism so that we can get more than one shot every ten seconds and improve accuracy+weapon responsiveness using a basic hopper and trigger system.

Idk the exact science behind rail guns, but if recoil does become a problem, we could make an enchantment to have the entire rail gun hover a foot or two off the surface of the airship, therefore the gun will be pushed back when there is recoil without affecting airship flight. Then we could figure out some enchantment/pulley system to automatically move it back in place for the next shot

Remember how they're blind and only use tremor sense to detect prey? They'll never even know we're above them in the first place. Sandworm's are gods or spirits. They're just big animals that can use magic. As long as we stay a proper height, we have nothing to worry about.

Admittedly, Mortia is somewhat out of shape. She's far from intimidating and you wouldn't be surprised if she's never hiked more than a few miles in her life. Still, she's a Grandmaster Vatis. “I don't think you have to worry about being useless, Mortia. You're a Nature vatis, and we're going into the jungles of Elaudia. I can't imagine any situation in which you're not invaluable. More than that you're an alchemist, if any of us fall under the sway of some mind controlling plant then it will be you who has to concoct some sort of anti-toxin.”

Mortia sighs wearily. “I know that, but I just don't want to be left cowering in the back while everyone else is fighting for their life. I don't want anyone to be forced to babysit me.”

You lean back in your seat, folding your arms in front of your chest. “If you really wanted to, I'm sure Darzi would be happy to give you a few lessons on how to fight, or at the very least how to keep yourself alive in a fight. You might have to wake up before noon to benefit, though.”

Her nose wrinkles in disgust at the thought, but after taking a moment to think it over she simply nods her head. “I think I'll do that, join Darzi for training that is. Loathe though I am to cut short my nightly experiments in the name of sleep, I don't want to wander into these jungles of yours unprepared.”

The carriage trundles to a stop, Stelios calling out a greeting to the soldiers your family sent to guard your estate. It isn't long before the carriage door swings open, permitting you and Mortia to exit. Before retreating into the safety and comfort of your estate, Mortia addresses your driver. “Tell Prema that I want to be woken up bright and early tomorrow morning. No later than...” She trails off, glancing to you.

“Six in the morning.” You finish for her. Truth be known you doubt that you'll be up that early, but it will be good for her to get into the habit of waking up early. You'll want to set off at the crack of dawn when you're on the road, should you even stop to make camp.

Mortia has the good grace not to complain, though you can tell that she sorely wants to, and makes her way swiftly towards the door. Reminder lads. We gotta speak with the Cat about our reward. A ring, made from a bit of Spirit Boar Tusk, encrusted with the Vys Crystal from the Vault of Anthus, to store any excess Vys.

1, to prevent the Entity from feeding on our excess Vys to gain power, and 2, to wear the Heavy Warlock Armor without suffering from Vys Oversaturation. With the extra storage capacity from the crystal, we're looking at an artifact that can store up to 75 Vys, that isn't a fucking seed, and that can acrue 10 vys per hour with the rate of the Heavy Warlock Armor's vys regen.

...Thats... actually a really good point. Mortia and us, grandmasters in nature and water respectively, could probably sap the water from every plant in a 20 foot radius of us while we move through the jungle. Then we can move through without fear of the plants, or even set the dry foliage on fire if needs be.

You withdraw a few silver from your cloak and press them into Stelios' palm. “Get some rest, I think I'm done with the carriage for this evening. You did well today.”

He thanks you profusely, setting about getting your camels unhooked from the carriage and making sure they have food and water. Vaisala watches as you walk past from her make-shift corral, blood staining her snout from the goat carcass sitting in front of her. You duck through the doors to your estate and find yourself in the foyer, where you've built a shrine dedicated to Mahana.

The cat spirit is nowhere to be found, but you step into the veritable forest of pillars which make up his shrine and assume a meditative pose in front of the largest pillar. The sound of water spilling over rock fills the foyer, lending it a very soothing quality. This despite the constant hum of activity filtering into the foyer from the kitchen, where your slaves are likely preparing dinner.

As you begin to slip into a meditative trance you feel something step on your leg, and crack open an eye to find a large orange tabby cat climbing into your lap. It makes itself comfortable, curling up and closing its eyes as if it's preparing to take a nap. You notice a small piglet, probably only a few weeks old, staring at you cautiously from a few feet away. You can only assume that the cat is Mahana, and the piglet the boar spirit he forced to serve him.

Your run a hand along the cat's side, a deep purr thrumming through its chest. It seems far louder than it ought to be, considering the size of the creature, and soon you hear Mahana's voice rumbling through your skull. {Scratch underneath my chin, would you?}

You oblige, and after simply luxuriating in your ministrations for a few minutes the spirit poses a question. {So, why did you call me? Have you decided to collect on the artifact I owe you?}

You shrug. {Perhaps, I had some questions to ask as well.}

The purring subsides to a more reasonable volume. {By all means, ask away.}

You've been stewing on artifact ideas for the last several days, but only one of your ideas really stands out to you. {I want a ring crafted from the horn of the boar spirit, and adorned with the vys absorbent crystal I found near the vault beneath the Academy of Anthus. I want it enchanted to absorb any excess vys I produce, anything that would normally escape into my surroundings or get absorbed by the entity dwelling within my mind.}

The cat spirit's tail swishes, smacking you lightly in the arm. {You'll need to extract the materials you want me to use from your cloak, I can't interact with anything you've shoved in that pit. The tusk is in my throne room, but I'll break off a piece and turn it into a ring and housing for this gemstone of yours.}

You reach into your cloak and pull out the long piece of crystal you snapped off of a outcropping of similar crystals in the vault chamber. Mahana eyes it lazily from his position sprawled out across your lap. You feel vys pouring off of Mahana, and the crystal immediately starts to glow brighter than any flame. It's blinding, but fortunately it doesn't seem to give off any heat. Just as quickly as the light had come, it's extinguished. The crystal returns to its usual dull blue coloration. {I won't need more than just a few shavings from the crystal to create the artifact I have in mind. It seems well suited to the task of storing vys.}

(1/6?)
>>
True to his word, a thin sliver peels off the surface of the crystal. It vanishes, but what appears in its place is a rather simple ring. It isn't really decorated, and the sheet of crystal Mahana peeled off has been placed in a shin, fragmented band inlaid within the boar tusk that makes up the majority of the ring. You hold out your hand and the ring falls into your palm. You don't feel any different as you slide the ring onto your finger, nor does the ring seem to undergo any change. Still, you assume it's working.
>Vys Ring gained. The Vys Ring will gain 5% of Mik's total vys per day, rounded to the nearest whole number, with a maximum storage capacity of 80 vys. It will also prevent any foreign entities from passively leeching the excess off Mik's reserves, though it does not make Mik immune to leech spells.
>At the moment, this means the ring will gain 3 vys per day, assuming Mik does not channel any vys into the ring.

You tuck the length of vys absorbent crystal back into your cloak. It might come in handy later on. That business taken care of, you turn your attention towards the various questions you've been meaning to ask Mahana. Rolling up one of your sleeves you display the tattoos which crawl up your forearms. The designs themselves aren't what you want to ask him about though, rather it's the runes on the back of your hand that interest you. {Do you know what these runes mean?}

(2/6)
>>
Mahana flicks his eyes down to the runes written in your flesh. {The base rune seems to be 'Divinity', or perhaps you would call it 'Soul', but it's been warped. It should still function well enough, but I imagine its effects will be a bit less predictable than they would be if the rune was drawn correctly. As for the affecting rune, it is simply the rune for 'Contain'. I imagine that it will prevent your soul from being tampered with by outside forces. It might also prevent you from tampering with your own soul, or prevent your soul from escaping your body upon death, or during meditation. I couldn't really say.}

That is... less than optimal. Still, you can see it having its uses. You wonder if you'll be able to meditate upon reality if your soul is no longer able to leave your body? You doubt it, considering the nature of meditation upon reality requires your soul to enter the void.

Next you reach into your cloak and extract both your belt and the Forest Kings Crown. Mahana doesn't seem particularly interested in the belt, but at the sight of the crown his uncomfortably human eyes show some glimmer of recognition. {I recognize that crown. The method of its creation was taught to the first Autokrator, the first 'Self-ruler', in the Elven tongue. He led the elves to freedom, so many thousands of years ago.}

His attention turns to you. {Where did you find such an artifact? It was lost to the ages long before I was imprisoned here.}

(3/6)
>>
You shrug your shoulders. {I bought it off a merchant who had it sitting in the back of his shop. Seems like he's probably had it a while. The problem is, he wasn't able to tell me what it is exactly that the crown does. I was hoping you might be able to.}

The cat's tail starts to swish rhythmically from side to side, its mental voice dropping to a low, almost conspiratorial tone. {I had no hand in its creation, but I was on good terms with several of the spirits who did. The enchantment on the center prong was intended to enhance the wearer's skill with Nature magic, although your modern concept of 'Nature Magic' did not exist at the time. Rather, the enchantments were geared towards the manipulation of entities with a divine core.}

{The prong on the right was intended to protect the wearer from mundane weaponry, fire, and magic. Fairly simple, all things considered. Finally, the enchantment carved into the prong on the left was intended to bind the crown to four spirits of great power, and transmute their unfiltered divine essence into the more mundane, diluted form that composes the mortal soul. This had the added bonus of giving those four spirits power over the crown, and thus its wearer.}

Gods above, what would being pumped full of divine essence even do to a mortal? From what you've been told, you would think that it would kill them, or at least turn them into a shattered husk controlled by whatever spirit contributed the essence.{Would you say it's safe to wear?}

Mahana seems doubtful. {No, I wouldn't. After this long who knows if those spirits are even still alive, and if they are I would no longer trust them. I didn't trust them when the crown was made, why would I trust them now? I would recommend that you avoid it.}

Well, that answers one of your questions. {What about the belt?}

(4/5 or 6)
>>
The cat shrugs. {What about it? It's a phylactery. Normally a phylactery acts as the container of a being's soul, allowing them to function normally even when their mortal vessel doesn't actually contain their soul. Thus, it allows them to act without fear of death, for if at any time they die they will be bound within the phylactery, rather than simply dissolving into nothing. Most phylacteries in turn have some sort of mechanism in place to restore the being in question to life, though this is not universal.}

{This belt of yours seems to transmute vys into divine essence, which it uses to reconstruct any portion of a soul stored within. The belt will then flood the soul with magic, allowing it to reconstruct a body that matched its previous body. Rather ingenious really, but it will likely be destroyed in the process of reconstruction by the forces exerted upon it.}

That doesn't really explain why the shopkeeper kept saying that it showed up every few hundred years, seemingly of its own volition. Still, useful information. {Well, I think that answers my questions regarding artifacts. What about Elaudia? Do you know anything of the jungle, or the spirits that dwell there?}

Mahana's tail starts swishing faster. You get the sense he's annoyed. {I have never traveled extensively through Elaudia. Before I was imprisoned it was thought of as a backwater, the inhabitants there primitive. From what I understand spirits there tend to take forms similar to those of snakes, or other reptiles. Birds are also popular, if memory serves. Of course, that was many thousands of years ago and spirits are anything but constant. The trend could have changed since then.}

(5/6)
>>
>>42115700
CROWN IS MASK! CROWN IS MASK! DON'T BELIEVE HIS LIES!
>>
That actually reminds you of something you've been meaning to ask for a while now. {Just how is it that you wound up imprisoned here? I don't think you ever actually explained.}

Mahana climbs off your lap, stretching his back luxuriously. {I gave up a piece of my essence as part of a deal, it was supposed to be returned to me upon the completion of a task. However, before the task could be completed your ancestors, the Al-Hikar, declared all out war against the empire to which my partner in this agreement belonged. My partner was killed, the empire defeated, and the bead which contained a portion of my essence was locked in the vault beneath your estate. Thus I was doomed to wander the caves, unable to escape the pull of my essence. The fact that all of my previous shrines were destroyed, my worshipers killed, and my realm taken over by other spirits certainly did not help my situation.}

With that, Mahana leaps through the hole in the central pillar of his shrine. Rather than landing on the other end, he seems to vanish into thin air. The piglet vanishes with him, leaving you alone in front of the shrine. {I tire for now, creating that ring of yours has drained me more than I'd expected, and I must rest. We will speak another time.}

Sounds like a FUN™ combo.

Maybe we can fuck around with the runes used for the process to make an AI. They seem to more or less be artificial spirits, so maybe creating an item that leaches divinity from a few spirits and contains it in a shell would result in something also FUN™.

<Soma_QM> If you'd had a regular failure, you would've fallen under the full control of two spirits.
<Soma_QM> That is to say, two spirits would've taken over your body and overpowered your soul, thus allowing them to do with you as they wish.
<Soma_QM> A regular success means you would've warded off one of the spirits, and would've been forced to fight for control of your body against the one remaining.
<Soma_QM> Severe failure means your soul would've been so greatly reduced that you would be inconsequential, a passive observer trapped in a body no longer your own.
<Soma_QM> I would launched into the epilogue, where Mik watches the two spirits which now control his body destroy the life he built.

You would've kicked the spirit's asses so hard that you didn't stop at just sending them running. You would've taken the fight to them, launching an invasion of their realms through the connections created by the crown. Earning you an insight into a certain kind of magic.

They'd have seen the Entity, mistakenly assumed we were being controlled, and jumped straight to panicked brownnosing while offering fealty. There oaths were worded such that they were bound to the one they were speaking to, which they only realize is us, not the Entity, after they've already sworn.
So we get a bunch of spirits as absolute slaves completely by mistake.

I dunno, that looks like a net gain of +2 to gatefagging. Getting to the gate might be harder, but it seems that actually doing shit with it will be easier. And that's the dangerous part anyway.
>>
>>42118157
>+8 to resisting outside influences, +6 to Metal Magic, +4 to Healing rolls

We're keeping this shit. We were never gonna use the other shit again anyway.
>>
>>42118157
You can still fuck around with your soul, so long as no piece of your soul leaves your body. You can also still theoretically pass a permanency roll with the right bonuses. Same is true of meditation upon reality.
It will be hard as shit to get started with meditation upon reality, you'll need to find a good spot to do it and maybe take some meditative aids, but if you can get your soul outside of your body then you shouldn't have a problem getting into the void and fuckiing around in there. Getting back into your own body will be more difficult, requiring an actual roll.
>>

>>42118052
Will it make the metal codex think we're less of a shitter?
>>
>>42118191
Mate, that's what we have metal magic for. Losing the ability to enter the void and manipulate our soul vastly slows the rate at which we can learn and improve. Not only that, but it takes us off the void scene. We are now 100% dependent on Mahana for ALL soul dealings and artifact creations. We've just traded in one weakness for another one, one that we can't get around by playing carefully and being creative.
>>
>>42118219
So basically using the phylactery is harder than usual
>>
>>42118283

I thought permanency wasn't even used for most enchanted objects and instead they activate when the user puts vys into them or they're connected to some other vys source?
>>
>>42118729
There's really no point to discussing enchanting
>>
>>42118729
if you want an enchantment to sustain itself without the need to draw power from absorbed/ambiant vys, it needs to have permanency cast upon it.

or that's my understanding atleast.
>>
>>42118756
Why? Anyone can learn Permenancy.

Permenancy keeps the enchantment from breaking down with repetitive use.

>all of this inability to read

>Permanency: This metamagic removes the need to maintain a spell or a rune. It is primarily useful in golem creation and enchanting, but it can be used to make almost any spell permanent.
> Unlike other metamagics, it does not simply add vys to the cost of casting a spell. Rather, it temporarily reduces your maximum vys pool by ten. This is indicative of the lengths necessary to perpetuate a spell ad infinitum: the caster must sacrifice a portion of his very soul and imbue it into the object or spell. In order to regain this portion, the caster must sleep or meditate on the missing piece; to heal the damage done.

With the cat gone you stand up, stretching. A horrible idea occurs to you. Really, just a horrendously bad idea. You could put on the crown, despite Mahana's warnings. After all, he's not the boss of you. You're not his disciple. Why should you waste a perfectly good artifact, an artifact you spent a lot of money on, solely because he said so?

With the Gods themselves as your witness, you're going to get your money's worth.

That in mind you retreat from the foyer into the grand dining hall where Profectus, Tertia, Skull Kid, Darzi, Chryssa, and Fulvia are chatting animatedly about something or other, presumably while waiting for dinner to be served. Mortia is nowhere to be seen, presumably in her room changing clothes or trying on her armor before joining the rest of your companions. You greet them with a wave, but don't waste time stopping to chat. You've far more important things to concern yourself with.

You ascend the steps two at a time, swiftly crossing the hall to your bedroom and shutting the door with a heavy thud. You note that the hole you blew through the door with a bolt of lightning is gone, so presumably your slaves have had the door replaced as you ordered. To be certain that nobody will disturb your vital experimentation, you slide the doorbolt into place.

Safely sequestered you seek out a chair, finding a comfortable recliner in the private library your bedroom contains. You seat yourself as if taking your rightful place upon a throne, withdrawing the Forest King's Crown from your cloak. The ancient artifact seems to exude a sort of brutal, primitive violence. This was not the crown of some soft nobleman, raised in the lap of luxury. This was the crown of a warrior, a man who stole power from dragons with little more than his magic and the strength of his spear arm.

You hesitate, but only for a moment, before placing the crown upon your head. It sits heavy on your brow, the iron and bone digging uncomfortably into your skin. As you lean back into your chair, you begin to feel what at first is little more than a trickle of power.
>Vys Pool: ([60]/[60])

Yet all at once that trickle turns into a flood which threatens to wash you away. Your heart races as your body is inundated with the stuff of the divine, your thoughts drowned out by the roar of blood in your ears. Your insides begin to cook as your vys pool is forced larger and larger, your skin peeling away in long strips and the exposed muscle twitching erratically. It is as if your entire body has been submerged in liquid fire, a strange weightlessness overtaking you as the smell of your own cooking flesh fills the air.
>Vys Pool: ([116]/[116])

You think this is the end, that you've finally made the fatal mistake which will cost you your life. That your brain is on the cusp of boiling away and it is only thanks to your skill in Water magic that you've managed to survive this long. Then, all at once, there is a loud pop. You find yourself floating in a pool of cold water, the scorch marks which had crossed your body gone. You hear voices, two of them. They're speaking amongst themselves, their words unintelligible.
>Vys Pool: (29/58)

You attempt to swim to the surface of the pool, but rather than propel yourself towards the surface you merely appear there. The pool in which you languished is gone, and your surroundings changed. To your left a figure hovers above a vast field of ever-changing stone spires. One spire will collapse only for another to rise moments later in its place. The figure itself appears wounded, its body missing from the chest down and strips of red viscera floating uselessly where its abdomen ought to be. Two great wings of bone protrude from where its ears ought to be, and with its four disembodied hands it grasp a massive sword.

The figure on your right is by comparison a comforting sight. Hovering above an endless field of wheat is a woman with four arms, who clutches a gigantic lump of stone to her breast. She is dressed conservatively, in a long dress and a shawl which seems woven from the clouds. Her face is partially obscured behind a sheer veil, but you can see her sightless white eyes nonetheless. Smoke billows off of her in waves, and three glowing triangles seem to orbit around her head.

The sword-wielding figure speaks first. His voice rolls from his lips as the drumbeat of an army on the march. It is booming and inexorable, the voice of a commander. “It has been some time since anyone has worn the crown.”
(3/6)
>>
The woman responds, her words understandable even though she says nothing. Her voice is like wind across a grassy plain “This one does not truly understand the gravity of what he has done.”

A massive crash seems to shake the world as several of the pillars which dot the sword-wielding spirit's realm collapse. The spirit's voice somehow manages to rise above the thunder of falling rocks. “We will use him anyway. His mistake is not our concern.”

You feel a pressure building behind your eyes. It seems to grow, and grow, and though you try to suppress it your efforts prove fruitless. Just as it feels as though your eyes are going to pop out of their sockets you awaken, seated in your chair just as you were. The crown still rest upon your head, but you do not otherwise feel any different.

You attempt to breathe a sigh of relief, but find yourself incapable. You can't breathe at all in fact. Panic sets in momentarily, but soon you realize that you don't even need to breathe. You feel no shortage of breath, no need for air. Then, without any input on your part, your body stands up. You find yourself involuntarily examining your hands. You note with no small amount of curiosity that your tattoos are shifting across your skin, twisting and coiling around your forearms with surprising violence. As if they struggle against some force, trying to free themselves from the surface of your skin. Then you extend an arm, and a jet of flame shoots from your palm. It seems to flow across the floor, scorching the rug and setting a number of books alight. You nod, though it's not truly you who's doing it.

do you even realize what Ronald Reagan/ President Obama was/are?
>>
Your struggle as best you can against your own body as it marches down the steps and up to the door of your bedroom. It slides back the bolt, and pulls open the door. You see Mahana sitting in the hall, his tail swishing rapidly back and forth, but all he does is watch you as you step past him. You hear his voice distantly, as if he's shouting to you from a great distance. {Mik, what did I say about putting on the crown?}

You try to respond, to tell him that it was a mistake, but no matter how hard you concentrate he doesn't seem to hear you. When finally a response comes, it does not sound like you. It sounds like two voices speaking in concert, echoing one another exactly. The effect is unsettling, and its words more so. {The former inhabitant of his vessel has capitulated. It is now we who are in control.}

The full weight of your present situation strikes you as a hammer blow. You are trapped in your own flesh, a mere observer.

Your first instinct is to panic, to burn through your vys in an attempt to retake control of your body. You force yourself to remain calm instead, to plan. Channeling vys you feel out your surroundings, trying to get an idea as to the strength of the foreign entities currently controlling you. You can sense them, but you've little idea how to go about fighting them. They surround you, clasping to your soul as leeches might a vein.

Your situation seems hopeless, but you'll be damned if you simply roll over and let yourself be controlled like some sort of glorified puppet. Harnessing as much of your power as you can you prepare a spell. You shape your will into a blade, its edge composed of Earth magic. With a thought the spell discharges and you feel a chunk of your very soul carved away in the process.

Much to your surprise your desperate ploy works. One of the spirits clinging to you loses its grip upon your soul and its momentary lapse is enough for you to take back some manner of control. You channel vys, trying to sever the various connections between the crown upon your head and the spirits. Two fall away easily, as if they'd maintained only the barest wisp of power, while the third you feel you must push all of your will into breaking.

Sadly the fourth proves too great a challenge to surmount. Try as you might the tendril will not break, its surface will not crack. There is no weakness for you to exploit. Your thoughts a scattered as howl echos through your skull, and you feel your soul pressed down upon, eaten away by whatever this monstrosity is eating into your soul. You feel your memories slipping away, of loved ones and family. Of friends, of enemies. You cling to whatever you can with the same desperation that a dying man clings to life, but it slips through your fingers like so much sand.

Greetings. My name is Patrick Bateman™, and I have contacted you for important matters.

I have taken notice to your post. It is of high quality™, but it's not the contents of the post that I'm interested by, it's the post-number.

Your post-number is unlike any other that I've ever seen. It is unique, as no other will ever obtain your distinct strand of numbers, but that is not the only unique thing about it.

Look at the numbers at the very end. Take a close look at them, and you might even realize it, too. Your post-number has ended in repeating digits, that is why I am contacting you.

I don't want to seem like a bother, as I understand that you're very busy crafting hundreds of quality™ posts such as the one I am replying to, but this is a matter more important than posts. It's a matter of life and death.

Here on /tg/, it is the most important rule of all that repeating digits much be checked and kek'd, that is why I am contacting you. I am here to check and kek your repeating digits, for it is a matter of religious importance.

So, after all this patience and discussion, I will now check your repeating digits. Here I go: #Checked

Now that your repeating digits have been checked by me, it is now time for me to leave. I cannot spend all day checking your repeating digits, no matter how much I love them. The reason? More digits must be checked.

<Soma_QM> Hmm, that's not a bad idea actually...
>>
It is as your memories of your childhood slip away, as you forget the face of your mother and father and the names of your siblings, that a solution occurs to you. A meditation, performed once some time ago, in better circumstances. Rather than fight the erosion of your soul you contribute to it. You work in front of the spirit, Earth magic eating away at the very fabric of your being even as the spirit tries to match your pace.

Until you reach the core, the rocky shell that surrounds the very essence of your soul. The shard of divinity that mortals stole from the Gods themselves. You throw the very last of your reserves into reinforcing this essence. The holes in the stone shell which surround the shard of divinity that makes up the core of who and what you are begin to close, the dull black of the stone turning slowly to a vibrant gold. The spirit thrashes uselessly at this kernel of resistance, this last bastion of control which you exert over your own body.

Wherever the vile creature touches, it is destroyed. Great holes are rent in its flesh, its own divine essence spilling out, cutting holes through your flesh to escape. Defeated, the spirit retreats through the connection created by the crown. With one final effort, the last link is severed.
>Vys Pool: (0/[0])

It is with relief that you relinquish your hold on reality. It is in peace that you collapse to the floor, your consciousness slipping away.

Did this quest give up on being at all serious at some point or was it just an elaborate collaborative shitpost from the start?
>>
>>42120211
Did we just figure out how to kill Spirits?

It's been on hiatus for a while and people wanted something exciting to happen.

Technically, you passed out in the hallway. The hallway is not (yet) on fire.

It never really had a plot, so people just fuck around with this weird setting as much as possible

It was confirmed that any contamination from the cloak was temporary and would go away if we stop wearing it for a while, which we did. That's not an issue anymore.

As for the mask, we are actively working on fixing that situation.

Well, with the connections from the crown to the spirits severed you can now safely wear it. I'm debating about a few other things.

4 really powerful enemies who know everything about our life.

Some measure of respect and disgust from the cat.

Why do you have to be such retarded cancer tho
>>
>>42120388
Yeah, the crown has power independent of the spirits. They don't control their puppets twenty four hours seven days a week. They essentially just dictated orders to their subordinates with the threat of unbelievable pain and the death of loved ones if they resisted. Thus, the crown allowed them to operate operationally.
>>
>>42120335
You mentioned the runes tattooed in our skin "are shifting across your skin, twisting and coiling around your forearms with surprising violence. As if they struggle against some force, trying to free themselves from the surface of your skin." Did our struggle with these incredibly powerful spirits damage our tattoo's effectiveness at all?
>>
>>42120421
Why do you have to be so mad?

I'm not Soma, but I'd give Metal and/or Earth if I had to give out insights for this mess. I probably wouldn't in the first place, but that makes more sense than Fire.

I ain't even mad tho
