Things felt very different this time when you ate the soul orb. It was like the void was trying to pull you away into nothingness. You managed to come out alright though, and even hell is recovering for the after effects of your attack. The long empty gash that your void laser created is slowly filling and will soon be nothing more than a pool of lava.

Completed Research

>Madblade – The complexity of the enchantments on the blade has allowed Hestia to learn how to enchant much more efficiently, future enchanted objects can contain stronger enchantments. Berserker enchantment is also now available for use. It provides a massive increase to strength, dexterity, constitution and speed at the price of removing all higher level reasoning for a period of time.

>Time manipulation – Once again your work with Hestia has overshot the stated goal of mearly distorting the flow of time. You can now create areas in which you have total control of the passage of time.

>Lazarus serum – Due to your help vitalizing regenerating panacea can now be manufactured. The researchers were only trying to replicate the effect of restoring life after death and after you finished the project they went back and created a worse version that will not permanently implant itself but can be easily distributed by the medical squads for use.

>Bio information update – The bio-labs are now fully operational, you may now begin to clone new animals or creatures that you have sufficient information on. Biological information will now be taught through the learning program to increase effectiveness against targets that have been previously encountered.

>Gravity neutralizer – By miniaturizing the technology required for gravitational manipulation it is now possible to create localized fields of gravity to propel vehicles and drones. This is vast improvement over previously used electric motors. Hestia is currently re-outfitting all vehicles to utilize this improvement.

I’m going to switch how I do things a bit and give only completed research at the start with a simple list for ongoing projects, because the section for new things unlocked is going to get very huge very quickly the rate things are going.

>Try to find the horse
New mount hype!
>>
>>42127736
> Try to find the horse

I hope it didn't die when we killed that demon mage. We did learn that familiar ability from his soul orb.
>>
>>42127736
Also I trust the imps to not raise hell in our city (in so far as they try to murder people or cause major anarky) but Hestia should be keeping an eye on them anyway.

>>42127853
I was thinking the same thing, I'd like to definitly make a familier out of the horse.
>>
>>42127736
I'd like to suggest a couple new short term goals which is

1. Exploreing the rest of the first layer of hell
2. Dealing with any other threats to the populace there of
3.Gather Information on the 2nd layer Hell Lord.
4. Break down any and all items we have to learn there enchantments. Once we crack them we can start enchanting better equipment for ourself.

Like a whole suite of plate mail that boods our mana, with other layered enchantmens on it as an example.
>>
>>42128038
Long Term goals.
1. Become the lord of the first layer of hell
2. Have sufficent mental will to defy hell's ancient laws.
3. Read the Lich's spellbook.
>>
>>42128080
I think the third one is already on there, but we should break down how the lich's ritual chamber works, and see if we can twist that to figure out other ritual chambers for healing magic or other such things.
>>
>>42128080
Those goals suck get new ones

An trusting any demonic contract where the terms are vague at best or just not stated at all.

You and Ayla start to look around for the horse, you wander about though hell for some time looking for it, or at least something similar. You don’t the horse, you find plenty of those demons that are hunting down imps though. Ayla takes it upon herself to defeat the creatures when you find them and free the imps from the cages.

>50 + awareness

You get the nagging feeling that the horse is dead. The guy said that it was his, and then you killed him. It was some kind of ghost horse thing so what if killing him killed the horse too? Ayla seems to notice this as well but is more than happy to explore hell and save more imps.

>61

As you pass though the twisted paths carved by the ever flowing lava, you come upon a hooded man surrounded by the corpses of imps and their hunters. He is stooped over in prayer.

“Master look he killed all these imps.” Ayla says without thinking.

The man’s focus is broken by her comment and he rises up to face you.

“Blessed are those who follow the law.” He says while preparing his sword and shield.

“Hey, not much blessed down here in hell though is there?” You ask him.

The man chuckles and visibly relaxes.

“Pardon my hostility. I have wandered the abyss for nearly two hundred years now. Doing constant battle with monsters, vile twisted men and hellspawn.” The man says. “It is only recently that I have found the relative safety of hell.”

“That is a long time.” Ayla says.

“It is indeed, however by the blessing of my patron I am nearly home now.” He continues. “Thankfully this final layer of hell has been destabilized by the death of its lord. Now I can return at last, I would offer the two of you succor. Hell is no easy place to break free from and it is not my place to refuse those who need aid.”

His sword is still ready to use at moment’s notice and he still is eyeing the pair of you suspiciously.

“First things first, this is Ayla, and I am Reginald Clayton” You say

“Osanas Lightbringer.” He returns your introductions with a flourishing bow. “It is most unusual to encounter anyone who is not hostile in hell.”

“Where exactly are you headed?”

“The realm of my patron, a simple but kind and joyous place.” The man motions for you to join him in walking through the field of lava.

“You mentioned that it was difficult to return to.”

“Indeed, the alignment of the planes must be just right for passage to be successful. Here where the lord has perished the needed alignment will be vastly easier to achieve.”

“Why not just have a portal?” Ayla asks while walking along pretending to be human.

“Only a madman would willingly connect another realm with hell, any number of foul creatures could use such a connection to invade.”

“I recently found something interesting.” You say while digging out the prayer books. “Is there anything you could tell me about them?”

>46

The man pulls back the hood obscuring his face revealing a milky eye and a large scar from a unknown clawed monstrosity. His good eye goes wide at the sight of the books.

“Physical manifestations of the law? Our meeting must be divine providence.” He is very surprised that you have these books. “We must return these to the realm, properly enshrined. What madness must have passed since I left?”

He is too excited to answer any more questions right now, the books are obviously something special.

“Very well, we shall help you return the books to their rightful place.” You promise him.

“Thank you Reginald, lady Ayla. Your assistance is much appreciated.” He clasps your shoulder for a moment and continues on.

He guides you back through the twisting lava strewn paths to the demonic city, and then right back to where the imps took you to. He doesn’t talk much during the trip, perhaps still unused to interacting with people after so long wandering alone.

“Yes, this place will do. The plane weakens here.” He looks over the area to confirm his statement.

Osanas holds a small white crystal up and begins to chant. A faint glow appears in the air, it grows steadily brighter as the crystal begins to crumble away. The crystal crumbles away completely and all that is left is a ball of glowing light.

“No, impossible all this time and failure in the end.” He slams his fists against the ground.

“Master should I help him?” Ayla’s voice echoes into your mind. “Or is it better for me to keep pretending to be a normal boring human?”

“Alright Ayla, do whatever you think you can do.” You think to her.

Ayla floats off the ground, enters the glowing light, and begins to channel magic.

“What treachery is this?” Osanas asks pulling his sword to the ready as he stands.

“Easy there, we are getting you home.” You try to calm him down.

“What are you?” He demands.

“I’m human, Ayla is a marid”

“I have never heard of such a creature before.”

“Master it is time, I found it.” Ayla holds her hands out.

“Do you want to go home or not?” You ask Osanas as you take Ayla’s hand.

He lowers his sword, and carefully reaches out to tough Ayla’s other hand.

Then you are no longer in hell.

The sound of falling water and chirping birds surrounds you a few nearby people gasp at your sudden appearance, but quickly go about their own business. Osanas falls to his knees weeping.

You give him some time and space to recover and take Ayla over to the edge of the platform you are on.

She seems annoyed at having to walk around but sticks to it after Osanas’ reaction. The two of you look over the perfect utopia surrounding you. Interconnected floating platforms make up a grand and vast city. People are carefree to slowly mill about enjoying the splendor of the city, at closer look though the veneer of perfection is perhaps a bit too thin. Everyone is acting in a very regimented fashion, there doesn’t seem to be the usual subtle chaos inherent to a city of this size it seems almost forced to appear perfect.

“Thank you both, I have truly been gone for too long.” Osanas has recovered. “This isn’t quite where we should have entered, but please this way. We should make haste and visit the grand temple. ”

He guides you across platform after platform, a twisting series of ramps and stairs up and down. Shops, theaters, restaurants and more are pointed out as you walk along. You come to a ramp upwards with the sides adorned with statues of warriors you can sense they are alive. Ayla messes around with them trying to get them to move as you walk up to the temple.

Osanas exchanges words with the guards at the temple door and they allow you to pass guiding your deep into a central chamber. Four groups of people kneel before empty floating glass spheres while reciting prayers.

“Just as foreseen, the apostates and lost warrior return the books of law.” An Old man in a gaudy robe says.

The books are taken and placed into each sphere, then pillars of light illuminates them.

Everyone thanks you profusely and then they ask you to join them. To join in with the majesty of the law.

Should your people ever need aid, try to contact us and we will do what we can. Until then, farewell, and may luck favor you."

A few people clap when you finish your speech.

“Yes, yes, that is very good.” The old man says. “But you really shouldn’t be here, this realm is unforgiving to apostates. Now go and follow the law.”

The guards usher you back out of the temple without much ceremony. You are free to wander about the city now.

“Master, let’s go shopping!” Ayla immediately drags you to the shops.

Of course when you get there you both realize that they don’t accept your gold coins or credits and there are no money changers. You also didn’t even get anything from returning their books.

The city is still nice enough to walk through so you just amble about for a while looking around. There is a woman dressed in animal bones down an ally, which is a bit odd but what really bugs you is how fake everything is. And that is when it hits you, there are no children around. “Excuse me.” You call out to a person walking nearby. ”Do you mind telling more about this place?”

They spend some time telling you about how amazing the city is and all the great benefits of living here.

“Tell me more about the city’s history. Is there anyone other than humans around?” You ask.

This makes them a bit uncomfortable; they claim that the city has always existed in its current perfect condition. All followers that are not human are located elsewhere in accordance with the law. There is no visiting these other places but obviously they are also as fantastic as the city. Then they want to continue on their way, away from you so you let them go.

You go to a shop displaying some books and wands, inside it seems to be some sort of magic shop. You find some interesting things but the shopkeeper says they are forbidden from dealing with outside currency and the shop is now closed so you’ll have to come back another time.

You try to go into another shop but find the doors are locked. You try a different one, also locked.

All the people wandering about have left, it is just your and Ayla here alone.

“Master this is strange, where did the birds go?”

Ayla is right there is nothing around anymore, not even the birds. You go back the way you came from for a bit, down that alley from before the woman dressed in bones is still standing. So you go talk to her.

“Good of you to stop ignoring me.” She smiles at your approach. Her dress is made from countless ribs and claws, if the skulls that make up the shoulder pieces are anything to go by the creatures used to be some sort of reptile. You sense no life from her at all as her grey eyes bore into you.

“Small and young, yet you disrupt the established rule.”

"This is a strange place with strange people. It doesn't matter, I suppose. Your people are free to visit my realm instead." You reply after thinking on what she said for a moment.

This breaks her smile. She raises an eyebrow and scrutinizes you further as you turn to leave.

You are back in the demonic city when you turn around.

“Apostate, a boon for your service.” The woman’s voice says from behind you.

You turn and catch the object that was tossed to you.

“Master! I think that was-” Ayla she flails her arms about too busy trying to mime her message across to finish talking. “It’s not fair, we find two strong things and they both make me be silent, really really rude.”

You see now that the demonic city is bustling with action there is a vast number of demons that are clearly not imps around as well. There seems to a large line going somewhere and you can hear the sounds of a fight coming from what must be the front of the line.

“Finally there you are.”Hestia’s voice comes through a probe. “You vanished entirely from the scanners, for three months. There is an ongoing demon invasion, containment was breached.”

“What? What is the condition of the city?” You ask quickly.

“The city itself is fine, but the room with the portal to hell has been taken over by a demon that is laying claim to this side of the portal. I have left it be for now since it seems content to slaughter anything that exits the portal.”

Shouldn’t Hestia be able to just kill the demon and seal the portal again? Something strange is going on here.

“Hestia did you learn anything from the scanning probes what we took with us?”

“I am compiling the data now, wherever your were was vastly outside sensor range. Even including boosting the signal through the void.”

You place the orb into your backpack, it clearly isn’t a soul orb it is something different.

Then you go to try to find an imp, the crowd of demons around doesn’t even pay attention to you, they are all focused on advancing in the line, amazingly well behaved for demons. That just means that either they don’t want to waste energy fighting each other, or something nasty is enforcing order.

It takes awhile of wandering to locate an imp.

“Lord slayer! Invasion!” It chirps when it spots you. “You will help again, yes?”

The entire city becomes still and quiet instantly at the imps comments, you can feel every demon present staring at you.

“What is going on?” you ask the imp.

“Others overhear imps talking about freedom. Now everyone has come to enter lord slayer’s portal.”

Looks like Osanas was right, leaving an open portal to and from hell sitting around isn’t such a good idea.

“Uh oh, danger master.” Ayla grabs your arm tightly to her chest.

The blood thirst from the surrounding demons is palpable but none makes a move, having their backs exposed to each other could be a fatal mistake, so the only thing stopping them from attacking right now is their distrust of one another.

Then Ayla grips you even closer, the danger she spoke of arrives.

A couple dozen scantily clad women push through the crowd, no not women, succubi. They surround you and a stronger specimen approaches you directly.

“So a human male killed the lord how interesting, why don’t you give me the deed.” Her sultry voice calls to you.

>51 vs dc 30

You look her right in the eyes her lust magic is working on overdrive trying to bend your will.

“No.” you state simply.

The group of succubi is visibly shaken.

>47 vs diplomancy dc 47

“If you take the deed there is just going to be constant bloodshed until someone strong enough comes along and takes over. Why not just enjoy the freedom this level of hell now offers.” You tell her. “And I certainly hope that you are not here to invade my city too.”

“I wasn’t g-going t-t-tooooo-” The succubus leader’s will is completely broken as she goes crying into to comforting arms of her compatriots. For a soul stealing demon she sure did take rejection hard, and you can feel Ayla become the physical manifestation of smug as she smiles at the succubi while dangling from your arm.

“The same goes for all of you as well” You point at the surrounding demons. “I hear that there is a demon that has taken over the other side of my portal. It is going to die, and anyone in my way is going to die.”

The demons slowly part to give you a path back to your portal home.

You and Ayla step through to find bodies littering the area as a large demon cradles its blade.

When it sees you it stretches out and prepares to fight.

“I knew controlling this portal would be fun, more and more just keep coming to the slaughterhouse.” It says. This one doesn’t look open to talking, the trick here will be killing it without damaging your own city too much.

I see there is some confusion on the physical nature of the first level of hell.

It is a sea of lava with twisted paths of cooled rock. Occasionally there are rocks jutting out higher than the lava fields, these normally contain caves where larger demons live, like revolution guy RIP.

On one very large outcropping a replica of a walled and heavily fortified human city was built, the dead lord would destroy it while imps were forced to rebuild it.

The entire plane is cooling off, the oppressive heat lowering with the lord death. This is allowing demons not as resistant to heat to come and try to invade your mirror portal. Most imps have already accepted your offer of salvation and moved to your city.

Hope this helps any confusion that you probably already cleared up yourselves.

You pull the orb that the strange woman gave to you and you let its power out. In your other hand you take aim with your sonic gun, you never noticed how easy it is to aim now it is like you know where the bullets, or energy orbs in this case, will go.

>98

You shoot the demon in the head. The three bursts of sonic energy tear three perfect circles through the demon, and the wall behind it. They slice right through the walls of the Reinforced room that Hestia had constructed to seal the hell portal in. They slice through the black stone and through the goblin’s warren. The bursts of sonic energy keep on going until they are out of sight.

>Orb function discovered – vorpal strike: Weapons wielded by the orb’s owner will slice though anything.

The demon falls over dead, you feel the faint pulse of a weak soul orb though. So you walk over and cut it out of the demon’s body. It is small, purple, and fairly weak.

>Void connection: Rank 5
You have become connected to the infinite void, you now draw power from nothing restoring 1 health and 1 mana per turn. You feel nearly empty now. Higher ranks may have additional effects.

Note that it does not say "per turn, per level". It is 1 of each, flat, from this source.

And now we have to deal with this "emptiness" bullshit.

God damn it, anons.

Though we now have a holy aura, this will be super usful against the denizens of hell and other evil creatures.

I'm in the boat where I believe it will be no where near as useful as the confident people believe, but nowhere near as bad as the worrywarts believe.

>>42137450
Good or bad is entirely irrelevant to my interests
I only want to be entertained by this quest, nothing more
>>
>>42137473
But a quick end isn't entertaining, now is it?

Say it does nothing, and there is no big reaction, what then?

That's boring.

You need to make your schemes more elaborate, subtle, and overarching than something as simple as one action for one reaction.

For shame, anon, I expected better.
>>
>>42137501
Your lack of faith in apophis is disturbing
>>
We should probably setup some kind of check point on one or both sides of the hell portal, if we aren't going to destroy it.
Have turrets and some imps checking new arrivals.

Also with the researchers nervous about the new arrivals from hell, we should probably setup some kind of patrols to make everyone feel safe.
>>
>>42137515
Pls.

I don't need faith, he tends to be pretty obvious when he lies.

But it's fun to stir the pot.
