Rise up, warriors of the Dark Gods! Rise up, and crush the carrion tyrant! The galaxy will burn, and we will be the torch!

Roll up a Chaos Space Marine warband thread. Roll d10 to see if we're a renegade chapter or a traitor legion warband.
>>
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>42144629
Alright lets do this!

Rollan!
>>
>>42145152
Hory shet
>>
>>42145166
What does it mean?
>>
OP???
>>
>>42145152
So we're a legion warband with a secondary element. 1d10 to find out what it is
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>42145406
let's see what we get
>>
Rolled 3 (1d10)

>>42145617
Fucking kek.

Roll again.
>>
So we have a warband with elements from 2 of the legions as well as a renegade chapter. We should roll the reason the chapter fell next. 1d100
>>
Rolled 75 (1d100)

>>42145681
Aaaaand roll.
>>
Rolled 70 (1d100)

>>42145681
>>
>>42145703
>>42145704
Let's use the second roll for the chapter's progenitor. A battle brother found a daemon weapon, which lead the the chapter falling and the progenitor was the dark angels.
>>
>>42145753
Oh based!
>>
We need 1d100 twice for the legions now
>>
Rolled 68 (1d100)

>>42145771
>>
Rolled 41, 54 = 95 (2d100)

>>42145771
>>
>>42145809
>>42145834
So far we have warband of a dark angels successor chapter that's shacked up with a group of Death Guard and Iron warriors then.

Lets find out how devoted we are to chaos. 1d10
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>42145913
>>
>>42145959
We're absolute fanatics, but which of the ruinous powers do we worship? 1d12

Rolled 3 (1d12)

Rolled 6 (1d12)

>>42145978
Alright, I'm pining for tzeentch!
>>
Rolled 11 (1d12)

E want Nurgl
>>
>>42145990
Looks like we worship a minor deity, unless we want to go with >>42145997, which gives us nurgle. Whilst we're deciding, lets roll for the form of belief, 1d100.
>>
Rolled 8 (1d100)

>>42146033
We worship Malal/ malice
>>
Rolled 66 (1d100)

Rolled 54 (1d100)

>>
Rolled 74 (1d100)

>>42146033
>>
>>42146033
We are that which feeds upon Chaos
>>
>>42146051
So if we put our god above all else. We're fanatics who have no other purpose than serving our dark master. Everyone good with worshiping Malal? If so, lets roll our demeanour. 1d10
>>
Rolled 8 (1d10)

>>42146110
>>
>>42146110
I'm cool with it
>>
>>42146117
We like to desecrate and defile, destroying the icons of our enemies and pillaging their holy places. Given that we serve Malal, this gives us a lot of potential targets. We now need 1d10 each for common mutations and mental flaws.
>>
Rolled 3 (1d10)

>>42146156
>>
Rolled 9 (1d10)

>>42146156
>>
Rolled 6 (1d10)

By the way, how you pick rolls?
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>42146156
>>
>>42146165
>>42146179
not only do are we unable to sleep, but the marines in our band believe that sanity is for the weak, leaving many as borderline lunatics.
Now we need 1d100 for our figure of legend.

>>42146188
I've just been taking the fastest rolls up until now.
>>
Rolled 33 (1d100)

>>42146245
>>
Rolled 12 (1d100)

>>42146245
>>
>>42146258
We get a little leeway here - our figure is the leader of the warband, a demon prince or a chaos lord. 1d100 decides what he did to stand out.
>>
Rolled 45 (1d100)

>>42146280
>>
Rolled 93 (1d100)

>>42146280
>>
>>42146305
So our figure of legend killed a loyalist hero. How about we make him the DA successor marine who found the daemon weapon? He could have killed his own chapter master and then led his brothers to chaos.

Anyway, we need 2d100 to decide on our homeworld.
>>
Rolled 81, 40 = 121 (2d100)

>>42146344
>>
>>42146364
Being fleet based gives us the ability to roam around and wreck everyone else's temples, just as Malal wants us to. We're going to need 1d10 to decide on what our combat doctrine is.
>>
>>42146245
>unable to sleep
>leaving many as borderline lunatics
No kidding
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>42146419
>>
>>42146437
We be scary bastards. Our favorite tactic is to let our foes stew in their own mounting terror as we move to strike. Quickly! What's special equipment do we have to bring fear? 1d100!

For whatever reason, our warband is fond of using some sort of special mount. Whilst whatever the beasts are are probably pretty damn scary, they likely also leave a bit of a mess in our ships. But how many marines doo we have? 1d10.
>>
Rolled 9 (1d10)

>>42146555
I bet we call them Nightmares
>>

We are somewhat overstrength - a good sign, giving us the ability to take on a variety of foes, but why do we have so many marines? 1d10

>>42146573
The warband or the mounts?
>>
Rolled 3 (1d10)

>>42146617
>>
Rolled 5 (1d10)

>>42146617
The mounts. Of course, they probably look nothing like horses.
>>
We absorbed a smaller warband along the way. Do we prefer for this to be the forces of the legions being picked up by the renegade chapter, or vice-versa? Now who is our ally in our crusade against pillows? 1d100

We do need a name for the warband. Any ideas?

>>42146664
i totally overlooked the pun. I suppose they could be daemonic horses or something similiar.
>>
>>42146698
So, let the mounts be daemonic steeds of Malal. He really needs some, I suppose.

Rolled 88 (1d100)

So we have our own chaos cult following us around, filled with mortals who have given up on sleep and are following us down the path of nihilistic madness and utter devotion to Malal. Who is the foremost among our enemies? 1d100

Rolled 1 (1d100)

>>42146852

>>42146874

Rolled 96 (1d100)

>>42146900
>>
>>42146900
REST IS FOR THE WEAK.
>>
Rolled 49 (1d100)

>>42146900
I bet we turned to Malal after we were conviced that the whole of reality is a dream and only through death and destruction can we release the mindless dreamers of the universe from their slumber.
>>
So we hate one daemon prince or greater daemon in particular! That's everything that had to be rolled, so to recap:

We're a warband made up of elements from the Death Guard, Iron warriors and a dark angels successor, who were lead to chaos by a battle brother who discovered a daemon weapon. He slew the foormer chapter master and now leads the warband.

We're fanatically devoted to malal, seeking to defile the sacred places of all other factions. Our marines are blessed by Malal, discarding the need to sleep, but suffer from a distinct lack of sanity.

In battle they like to use terror tactics, frightening the enemy to weaken them befoore stiking, and use their mounts, Nightmares, to aid in spreading fear.

Because of the diverse background, we have an above average number of marines available, and we live on board our fleet alongside the chaos cult that follows in our footsteps.

We have a particular disdain for the eldar of a specific craftworld (which?) as well as one specific powerful daemonic entity (which?)

We do still need a name as well as a colour scheme for the chapter. Any ideas?
>>
>>42147001
A gnostic cult- I like it.

They believe that Malal is a distant and dreaming god, but it is their duty to try and release the universe from its sleep-state.

>>42147063
They have a grudge against a particular daemon prince or greater daemon, I suggest a particular Great Unclean One that wishes to put the universe to sleep (The Sandman?).
>>
>>42146145
The dreamless Sons
>>42146145
I like this color scheme

We fucking HATE Be'lakor
>>
>>42147063
Well at least one part of the color scheme has to be black and white. We also have to avoid the colors of the four main chaos gods, what looks good with black and white that isnt green, red, blue, or pink?

Also I say fuck Ulthwe
>>
>>42147143
Yellow?

And yeah, fuck Ulthwe.
>>
>>42147143
I'd say more silver than white, and maybe purple?
And I'm doubling down on the Fuck Ulthwe midnight train.
>>
>>42147123
>>42146801
So if we go with "the dreamless x", would sons or knights be better? Knights definitely has the pun factor going for it.
>>
>>42147195
Too fisty, how about an orange?
>>
>>42147206
Knights sounds better than sons

>>42147257
I second orange
>>
>>42147280
I feel like orange doesn't really fit the theme... Black, orange, and white doesn't really say "dreamless madmen " to me...>
>>
>>42147257
>>42147280
Nah I don't think orange would work. Just stick to the classic look
>>
>>42147381
Fine but lets hope the sons of malice don't sue for copyright infringement
>>
>>42147343
Maybe a dark yellow? Yellow is supposed to be the colour of madness after all.

And it seems that we really dislike both Ulthwe and possibly Belakor or a daemon of our own choosing like >>42147105 suggested.
>>
>>42147413
dark yellow, mixed with flecks of gold, outlined in silver and black
>>
>>42147413
I'm gonna stand by purple.
And hating Belakor seems fun. Undivided versus Self-Destruction.

>>42147447
Purple is still really Slaanesh-y
>>
>>42147447

I like the purple, I feel like the armor should look like a night sky, like a black and purple sky with white/silver stars. Like a fucked up version of Starry Night.
>>
>>42147501
Depends on how bright it is, like if you use a dark blue tinted purple it would be fine

Here's the same scheme in purple. The whitish areas are meant to be silver

So we've got the Dreamless Knights, who ride Nightmares and hate Belakor and Ulthwe in particular. Any ideas on what the nightmares look like?
>>
>>42147570
Well if we are worshiping malal we could use the parasite riders from malal deamonkin

>>42147570
I dig it. They're probably horse-ish from the front half and then a mass of tentacles towards the rear. Maybe they leak smoke or are sorta ethereal looking.
>>
>>42147570
Giant creatures large enough to hold marines, with bodies similar to tigers, but with two heads similar to horses, and razor sharp teeth.
>>
>>42147619
maybe it's all those things, perhaps the mounts are shaped by the rider thoughts
>>
>>42147645
I like this line of thinking, maybe the mounts can look like different animals/monsters to people depending on their fears.
>>
>>42147570
The Ngihtmares are just that, the take the form of the victims dreaded thing being different for each foe
>>
>>42147645
True. Not everybody has the same nightmares, after all. Their appearance might depend on the viewers' fears and the more terror the riders sow, the more powerful and more monstrous they become.
>>
>reading this thread.

Edge Lords Warband name.
>>
What about big rotting spider like sewn body pile without skin, covered with spears, axes, etc.
>>
>>42147723
Welcome to the grimdarkness of the 41st millennium, friend! Besides, it's a fucking Chaos warband, what did you expect?
>>
>>42147470
Where can I find that particular space marine painter?
>>
OP it's time to become namefag.
>>
>>42147751
Yeah, but look at all of the traits of this warband man.

They're Anti-everything god worshiping Demon followers who fell to chaos after they turned traitor and now seek to ruin everything else while also being unable to sleep and their favorite tactics are terror.

They're like Coldsteel: The chapter.

It's fucking hilarious.
>>
>>42147755
http://chaptergenerator.ru/ here

>>42147781
You forgot the part where they're largely insane and take particular pleasure in desecrating the holy places of others. Blame the dice
>>
>>42147781
That's what the dice did for us. Besides, what's point of being the bad guys if you aren't, y'know, going to be Bad Guys?

Also, captcha ia fucking waffle-crazy today.
>>
>>42147814
Thanks a ton
>>
I need to try and make some stories about this band of nutjobs, soon as I'm off mobile.
>>
>>42147501
Soul Drinkers are a nice dark purple, they aren't Slaaneshi devotees.
>>
What's the name of the cult following them?
>>
>>42148693
They might be cults of lucid dreamers, which probably puts them in deeper contact with the warp, given that dreaming is basically walking in the warp. They might be called something like The Walkers in the Mist, or The Awoken.
>>
>>42148823
Sounds pretty good. Given how fanatical the marines are the cult should be too, but they probably cant handle the lack of sleep so well - would they get minimal rest, or die trying not to sleep at all? Because it could be interesting if they can barely sleep due to being haunted by nightmares (like the actual bad dream kind)
>>
I'm gonna try my hand at doing some writefaggotry for this as it peaks my interest, haven't written anything serious in nearly 3 years though.
Someone gimme a fitting name for a Daemon Prince of Nurgle, who spreads a narcoleptic haze across the worlds he blights - and a name for the battle-brother that originally found the daemon weapon.
>>
>>42148859
Warp magic probably keeps them from just dying, mutating them to be unnaturally energetic, to keep up with their mounted masters in a charge.
>>
>>42149013
Perhaps Brother Rosius? As for the daemon i have no idea
>>
Fixed the mistakes. Thoughts?

>>
>>42149553
It's pretty nice for a short thing like that - gives a decent feel for the stuff.
>>
>>42149628
Thanks, first time I've tried writing something like that. I wanted to try and show the sleep deprived weirdness a Knight might see compared to what's actually going on.
>>
Since a couple of others have done it, I might as well contribute
http://pastebin.com/7zEHULv4
>>
What do you all think the Warband Leader is like?
>>
>>42150495
I reckon he's probably pretty nuts, if he's leading a group like this. I'm pretty sure someone said he should be the brother who found the daemon weapon in the fallen chapter and that he lead the others to malal so it makes sense for him to be off the deep end.
>>
>>42150466
That's pretty good! I like the idea of populations getting ominous dreams before they're attacked by the Knights.
>>
>>42150552
As the most zealous of a pack of zealots, he might be a former Chaplain, now championing the cause of total universal devastation.
>>
>>42150599
Thanks! I figured it made some sense with them being the Dreamless Knights and riding nightmares for them to bring dreams that spread fear.

>>42150652
That makes sense i guess - maybe he found a corrupted Crozius or something that had belonged to a Word Bearer that was fond of Malal and it got to him

I mean we are at our most orderly and controllable when sleeping.

I propose one of the Characters be named Vhak Camq
>>
>>42151557
Yes, but with a twitch
>Eye drops for the Eye drops god
>>
>>42152761
I just imagined a Knight saying this in the middle of whatever an astartes mess hall is and every other chaos marine just turning to stare at him before shrugging it off. Made me giggle.
>>
>>42152885

I'm willing to bet since none of these marines ever sleep. That they all some something stupid or contradictory from time to time and it's just a common occurrence.
>>
>>42152885
Perhaps we could make a story about how a group splintered off from the Knights due to believing this. Perhaps our hatred of traitors carried over from the Dark Angels, and we ironically view this group as a traitor to the real Malal.
>>
>>42152885
>>42153495
>When you realise the Corpse-Emprahs lap dogs are hypnotised while asleep
>>
>>42153634
Maybe that is one of the reason the Knights value sleeplessness.
>>
>>42153598
This is all starting to sound very Bloodborne, haha.
>>42153727
I figure they value their "gift" because they see their sleepless delusions as the True World. I bet they even call reality The Great Dream.
>>
>>42153855
>Bloodborne
It rings a bell and I know I am going to feel like a complete retard when I remember, but for the life of me I can't quite recall what you are referring to.
>>
>>42153855

In the warp, they'd actually be right. Or at least as right as one can be about the chaotic tides of the warp.
>>
>>42153929
The emphasis on dreams, i.e. The Hunter's Dream, and the various factions like the Hunters, The Blood Ministration, The Choir, etc. Even the idea of creatures appearing differently depending on madness (Insight)
>>42153938
Well, if they never sleep, maybe they reach a point of madness where they start seeing the warp in place of reality at times
>>
>>42153855
>>42153598
>>42149013
Playing off these, perhaps when the battle-brother first took up the daemon weapon and slew the chapter master, a purge was required of the chapter to cleanse it of the 'dreamers', those who managed to escape death formed a smaller warband around a daemon prince who the warband hunts as traitors / deluders / dreamers / whatever
>>
>>42154032
And in a twist of Irony, just like the Dark Angels our marines will abandon whatever they are doing no matter how important, if it means being able to bone over these traitors
>>
>>42154013

Or just general delusions. Really they'd only see things that need killing, and make war on pretty much everyone save for those that also make war on everyone.
>>
>>42154109
Maybe it's just because I rewatched The Men Who Stare at Goats, but I like the thought of some members who are psykers believing that reality is just a dream so strongly that they can sometimes just walk through walls or hails of gunfire untouched. And it only works half the time. And usually when noone else sees them do it.
>>
>>42152196
http://pastebin.com/sHPkV6BH
Small update if anyone cares. I'm actually getting pretty into this, I forgot how much I like doing stuff with 40k fluff. Also, anyone have any interesting ideas for armaments, tactics, shit like that? We know they favour terror tactics, and some ride upon Nightmare beasts (the twisted remains of the Ravenguard, is my thinking), but what else can they do?
>>
>>42154914
Maybe they use toxic gas that prevents people from sleeping. You could potentially use it as a way to grind down the enemy morale or it could eventually lead people to appreciate the sleepless god.
>>
>>42154914
Their coming causes insomnia and bad dreams, using obscuring, disorienting gas attacks to shroud their advance, orbital strikes, and judicious use of teleports. Also lots and lots of cultists.
>>
>>42154914
Constant probing offensives, especially at night, hit and run attacks from multiple fronts that prevent enemies from being able to completely recuperate before the next attack.
Use of various sonic weapons which prevent enemy forces from being able to rest, leaving them lethargic and unable to respond effectively.
Collecting and prominently displaying enemy corpses to further fuel terror.

Constant raids, ever-present noise from sonic weapons, and psychological warfare will destroy enemy moral, eventually leaving foes so exhausted and demoralized that they will be incapable of resistance.
