You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

Yesterday began the first day of your trial in Belmore. You were given one week to venture into the Forsaken Lands and light the beacons atop the old wall which once formed the border between Belmore and the Forsaken Lands and return to the Grey Watchtower. Yesterday began your first day of preparation before heading into the Forsaken Lands. Everyone is now equipped and ready for your departure into the swamp in two days.

The morning of the second day, you begin your trip to the Order of the Righteous Sword's headquarters, hoping to recruit some of them to help your cause. The trip takes several hours, but eventually you arrive at the city gates. The city is surrounded by a stone wall, somewhat smaller than what Morsland had but still effective. You notice there are two types of people standing guard at the gate, the first appears to be normal city guards, while the other group seems to be wearing the same iconography as Ganelon. You also notice that they are all wearing the same helm that Ganelon is, obscuring their faces from view.

“Hail, brother.” One of them greets Ganelon. “Is there something you require?”

“Yes brother, my companion and I must speak with the grandmaster.”

“He should be in the church, as usual. If he is not there, then he will be there eventually. May the blessed Swordmaiden watch over you.”

“And you as well, brother.”

A loud bell tolls twice as you enter the city. Ganelon leads you and the others through the city, towards the church. You see others from Ganelon's order patrolling within the city as well, it seems his order is assisting the city guard here.

Eventually, you arrive at the church which you assume houses Ganelon's order. Church isn't exactly the word you'd use for it though, more like a massive cathedral. The bell you heard ringing earlier can be seen atop the cathedral, and a large stained glass window hangs high above the entrance, depicting a familiar six-winged angel striking down what appears to be some sort of massive demon.

'Does that scene look familiar?' You ask Galadriel, referring to the demon she's depicted fighting.

'I believe that is meant to depict my battle with the demon lord Gremory. A fierce battle, but I struck her down nonetheless.'

'These mortals have quite the nerve, depicting a demon lord's death right on their front door.' Leviathan comments, sounding mildly displeased. 'Fortunately, I was never fond of Gremory anyways. Good riddance.'

You head inside the cathedral, Ganelon taking the lead. At the altar, you see a man in heavy armor wearing an elaborate cape decorated with various religious icons, the most prominent of which being a large golden sword stitched into the center of the cape. Like all the others in his order, the man in the cape is wearing a helmet which obscures his face.

“Hail there, brother. I do not recognize you, do you hail from one of our lesser chapters?” He asks. You wonder how he would be able to recognize Ganelon when he and everyone else has their face concealed.

“Yes, grandmaster. I hail from a chapter far to the east of here.”

“I see. Do you have business here then?”

“I do, grandmaster.” Ganelon moves to the side, allowing the grandmaster to see you. There is a short pause, before the grandmaster nods knowingly and bends his knee reverantly.

“I thought I sensed something unusual. So the blessed Swordmaiden and her Champion have finally arrive in Belmore. I am Grandmaster Malakai, of the Order of the Righteous Sword. It is my honor to meet you.”

Already, you can almost feel Galadriel shifting uncomfortably in the back of your mind. It feels like Leviathan is on edge as well, though for different reasons than Galadriel.

>”There's, uh, no reason to bend your knee sir. I appreciate the sentiment though.”

"Honor's mine, grandmaster. You said you 'sensed' something unusual? What do you mean?"

The grandmaster rises to his feet. "You have not informed the champion of our abilities?" He asks Ganelon.

"No sir. I was unsure whether I was at liberty to tell him."

"He is the Champion, it is safe to inform him, though I appreciate your discretion."

"What are you talking about?" You ask, confused. Not at liberty? Has Ganelon been keeping something secret from you?

"My apologies, Champion, our order is very secretive about our capabilities, but I assure you it is for good reason. You see, all the members of our order have gone through a ritual which, while potentially lethal, allows us to sense the flow of aether, just as the angels and demons do."

You feel a sense of surprise coming from Galadriel at this revelation. Curiously, however, Leviathan seems less surprised.
>>
>>42156651
"You're saying you can see aether?" You ask.

"Not quite. We can sense it's presence, feel it flowing through the world, but we can not physically see it as the angels do. This allows us to sense the presence of beings with high aetheric wells, such as angels, demons, and powerful spellcasters."

'I thought as much.' Leviathan says.

'You knew?'

'I had my suspicions. You did not know it, but your friend with the bucket on his head was following Aleria for a while back at the tower, before you came to the archives. I thought maybe he could somehow tell she was a demon, so as soon as you let me out I took measures to hide our presence.'

You think back to what Ganelon said back at the Red Watchtower, warning you that something was amiss. Suddenly it all makes sense, why he thought something was wrong and why he thought everything was back to normal after Leviathan came out of the archives.

>"How do you do that? What does the ritual involve?"
>"Is it possible that I could go through that ritual then? Being able to sense demons would be really helpful."
>"Well that's good to know. I wish you'd told me sooner, Ganelon."

>>42156398
>Although it was mostly to make a joke about how Siegfried could become a snowflake now that he has demon AND angel powers.
Technically speaking you could be consider a snowflake right after you picked up Galadriel's sword. Of course, that's not so bad when you consider you're a snowflake that absolutely no one wants to be, since you're pretty likely to be torn apart by demons, used as a lord of wrath's personal punching bag, lynched by an angry mob if people found out about Leviathan, or murdered by an assassin.

"I had no idea, that's good to know. Actually, we came here to ask you for help with my trial at the Grey Watchtower, if your order can sense demons, that would be really helpful if you could spare some people to help us."

The grandmaster considers your request for a moment. "I'm assuming your trial has already started then, how much time do you have left to make it to the beacons?"

"Today is our second day, we leave the day after tomorrow."

"I see. I am not sure how many I will be able to spare, but I will see if I can find volunteers to accompany you on your journey to the beacons. I'll try to get them to you before tomorrow night."

"Thank you, grandmaster. That would help us a lot."

"Anything for the Swordmaiden's chosen. If there is anything else you require, you need only let me know, and I will assist you if at all possible."

You think for a moment. "Well, if you don't mind, could tell me about that ritual you mentioned earlier? How does it work, what does it involve?"

There's an uncomfortable silence in the cathedral, as the grandmaster and Ganelon look to each other and back at you wordlessly.

"My apologies, Champion, but you ask of me one of the few things which I cannot do for you. The ritual which all of our order's warriors have gone through is incredibly dangerous, not all that undergo the ritual survive."

"Forgive us, Siegfried, but it is for the best that that information stay a secret." Ganelon adds.

You're actually surprised. This ritual must be really bad if even Ganelon is telling you to drop it.

'I have a very bad feeling about this ritual.' Galadriel comments, sounding worried.

'If it's strong enough to let mortals sense aether, it must be pretty big.' Leviathan says, sounding more curious than worried.
>>
>>42157670
"I see. Well, forget I mentioned it then."

"Thank you, grandmaster. We don't need anything else at the moment, but we'll let you know if something comes up."

"Please do. If you ever need something, send us a carrier pigeon and we will answer as soon as we can."

With that, you and your group leave the cathedral. It seems words gotten out that the Champion is in the city, because once you're outside you're greeted by a large group of people from Ganelon's order, all bending their knees reverently and reciting lines from the Saga of Aureus.

'I was wondering when your fan club would notice you're here.' You joke, feeling Galadriel's discomfort through your mental link.

'...I really wish they would not do this.' Galadriel says sheepishly.

'Weren't you the one who told me to be more accepting of my fans back when Avaline was stalking me at the Red Watchtower?'

'Avaline did not recite prayers in your presence. Now please, let us move on, preferably at a quickened pace.'

--------
That night, at the Grey Watchtower, you find yourself in a bit of a bind. You've decided to try and practice your spellcraft while you had time tonight, but you've hit a bit of a wall in your training. Used to be, you could improve just through repetition, but now it feels like it's taking a longer time for you to noticeably improve through repetition alone.

'It is only natural.' Galadriel tells you. 'Practice can only get one so far, you must supplement it with new knowledge and through trial-and-error to continue moving forward.'

New knowledge, huh? You know a few people who are more familiar with spellcraft than you, maybe you could go to one of them for help.

You think about who you could go to. Ganelon seems to know a lot about spells, and Daniel pretty much taught you everything you know. Every time you've seen Joan she's been nose deep in some book about spellcraft, so she's probably a good bet too.

Come to think of it though, Leviathan probably knows a lot more about magic than any of them, actually. At the very least, she's had a lot longer to practice. Maybe you should ask her.

'Say, Leviathan, you know a lot about magic, right? Anything you could teach me?'

Leviathan's attention is roused by your question. 'You mean besides how to keep Lilith's filthy hands out of your mind? Maybe. Depends on what you want to know, and how much you can handle.'

'There is no need for that, Siegfried. I am happy to teach you instead if you requi-'

'Defensive could come in handy.'

'No kidding, the only time I've seen you actually wear armor is during that tournament in Galloway. How are you not dead yet when all you were to a fight is some flimsy tunic?'

'It is better to avoid being hit at all than to try and absorb the hit.' Galadriel comments.

'Bullshit. I never once had to dodge a hit before I was stuck in this thing.'

'And that certainly worked out well for you, now didn't it?'

You can almost feel Galadriel smiling smugly while Leviathan hisses angrily. 'Whatever. Point is, you can't dodge everything, so it's about time you learned how to take a hit. Lets start with something basic, like making force spheres. We'll try something bigger once you've got the hang of that.'

The next couple hours are...well, you'd be lying if you said they were enjoyable. It doesn't take you long to figure out how to cast the basic spell, but to Leviathan that wasn't good enough.

'You messed up the incantation again. Do you really expect a force sphere like this to stop anyone who's serious for long? Do it again, and keep doing it until you get it right.'

By the time you've managed to create a force sphere that's "good enough" by Leviathan's standards, you're far too exhausted to try learning another spell.

'Tired already? I almost forgot how quickly mortals grow tired. We'll call it a day for now then.'

You collapse onto your bed, making a mental note to go to Galadriel or someone else next time you need help. You can't deny you learned a lot from Leviathan, but the past hour or two were absolutely frustrating, and being told constantly that what you've done so far is "pathetic" really didn't help. You close your eyes, and almost immediately you're greeted by sweet, sweet sleep.

--------
On the third day, you decide to meditate and practice in Galadriel's mental plane. You find her standing where she always does, on top of the mountain peak, looking down at you.

"This is the start of the third day, will you be ready to venture into the Forsaken Lands tomorrow?" She asks.

"Hopefully. We're finishing up all our preparations today. I'm going to start enchanting later, for now I thought I'd come here and train."

"I see. Then in that case, we can either train as we normally do, or I can teach you spellcraft as the serpent did yesterday if you prefer."

You remember learning from Leviathan yesterday. You're feeling a lot better now, you could try learning some spells from Galadriel if you want, or you could just practice fighting like you normally do, probably against some of the stuff she's seen in the swamp before.

Spells will probably be helpful, and you've already gained a glimpse of what you're up against thanks to that memory Galadriel showed you before, so why not?

"Learning some new spells couldn't hurt."

>New spell learned!
>Momentum - This spell allows you to walk on surfaces you would not normally be able to move on so long as you keep moving. This spell allows you to walk on water or even up vertical walls without stopping, but only so long as you continue to move.

Learning with Galadriel is much less frustrating than with Leviathan, as Galadriel is far more patient and significantly less pushy. The spell you learn is fairly difficult, but she gives you plenty of helpful advise and, eventually, you think you've got the hang of it.

Having learned a new spell, you thank Galadriel for her help and return to the real world, to begin enchanting your equipment. You still believe it's better to be mobile than heavily armored, but Leviathan was right that you may need better protection than what you currently have, so you begin working on placing Ward enchantments on your pants. It should give you an extra bit of protection from physical attacks, serving to cushion incoming blows somewhat.

>Ward enchantment placed on pants!1 You will now receive less damage from physical attacks!
>>
>>42160487
The process of enchanting takes many hours. You take a break to go downstairs and eat dinner, where you find that reinforcements have arrived from the Order of the Righteous sword, just as Malakai promised. There are twenty of them in total, all fully equipped for the journey, bringing your group count to 70.

After dinner, you head back upstairs and finish enchanting your clothes. It's already late at night by the time you finish, so you go ahead and crawl into bed. Tomorrow begins your journey into the swamp. With reinforcements from Ganelon's order and all the preparations you've made leading up to your journey, you feel you should be able to handle whatever comes your way in the swamp. You hope, at least.

You turn onto your side and close your eyes. You shouldn't think like that, with 70 of you you should be fine. Come tomorrow, you'll be ready for the journey.
>>
>>42160487
Haven't we voted a shit ton on moving up to heavier armor anyways, and then enchanting it with speed? We've at least discussed it to death.
>>
Alright, gonna call it a night here. Next thread should be tomorrow (technically today), keep an eye on the twitter just in case something happens though.

I'll stick around to answer questions if anybody's got them. Thanks for playing folks, next thread starts the journey into the swamp, hope to see you all there.

No, Momentum is a single target spell. You could potentially cast it on multiple people if you improved that spell, but for now it's single target only.
>>
>>42160621
We did just gain a natural strength increase from Galadriel so it probably won't be too heavy for us. Slap Speed+ on it and we'd be good.

Exactly how fancy are our new pants, Sparks?

Seriously, though, here's a question: while I am in no way endorsing waifuing or asking for a romance option on either of them, just how hard would trying for either Leviathan or Aleria be? I would imagine that Leviathan would likely be comparable to Galadriel, but Aleria is much more ambiguous.

Also, while we're at it, how hard would it to go for a ---Alastor--- romance?

That way ends up with us on a leash with some convoluted chastity belt wielded on us.

But I'm thinking that's what you were aiming for, right?
>>
>>42160701
Actually, either would be harder to pull off, as demons in general see humans as beneath them. To them, romancing a human would be the rough equivalent of a human romancing a dog. Aleria you would first have to get on friendly terms with, since she's still kinda pissed you killed her before, although as a spy her opinion on mortals is much more liberal than the average demon's. Leviathan...well, demon lords in particular see mortals as beneath them. Right now she sees you as basically a business partner: you help her kill Lilith and Malaphas, and she fucks off to the Void with all the other demons. That's about the extent of your relationship with her now, nothing more.

>Alastor
Depends, does your idea of romance involve someone horribly killing and mutilating you while laughing maniacally? If so, then pretty likely actually, though you may want to stop and reconsider what you call romance.
>>
Also, I just realized you guys already knew Force Sphere. Either way, you guys managed to improve it while you were with Leviathan. Sorry I forgot.

>>42160994

Either an aoe one that covers a group of people rather than multiple individual spheres, or one that can be maintained/empowered by other people.
>>
