This quest takes place in the world of Yu Yu Hakusho. You will play as a young man, who was formerly Koenma's Spirit Detective

>Each update will end in a vote. You will select ONE of the options provided, unless otherwise instructed. Writeins will only be allowed when an option for them is specifically given.

>Voting periods will last ten minutes

Time to become Toguro.
I guess.

Still a stupid plan but we seem to have no other choice.

Should tell Koe to invest in some healers.

Kaya helps you get out of bed and out of the hospital wing, leading you through the woods towards the hotel where your team has been staying. Once there, she rips off her clothes, revealing a drill-sergeant uniform beneath them, and slings her oar over her shoulder as she moves back to let you stand on your own.

It kind of hurts to stand, and your legs feel incredibly weak. But, that's why you're here. Kaya is going to try and teach you to levitate.

"Alright, John, time to get started," she announces. "Levitation can be difficult, especially for humans. But, I'll teach you the basics here. What you need to do is take some of your Spirit Energy, and push it beneath you. Do that right, and you'll be able to float, at least for a bit."

She sits back on her oar, levitating and watching you. "Go ahead and try."

"Kinky"
>>

I knew I was going to get flak for that.

A sword would be nice, but just referring to a Reaper weapon.

Although if you turn the scythe blade, it becomes quite a weapon.
>>
>>42277768
You do as she says, directing your Spirit Energy and attempting to place it beneath you. You see a small glow beneath your feet, and Kaya instructs you to stop.

"No, that's not how it's done," she informs you. "It's true that you can blast the ground beneath you and propel yourself with Spirit Energy, but that's not real levitation."

She explains that, rather than shooting Spirit Energy out of your feet or hands, you have to direct it within your own body to the bottom, as low as it can possible go, than direct it to push upward on your body.

It takes you a while to really make any progress with this, though Kaya doesn't really rush you, reminding you that few humans ever grasp the concept, and that, even if you do succeed, it will take time.

For the next two hours you keep at it, and still have no real luck.

Might as well apply fire magic logic, try and imagine we are feeding a small flame on a near burnt candle that we have to keep alive by providing constant spirit energy, but not to much or to little otherwise the fire would end up going out.
>>
>>42278003
>C.. Keep at it

Spirit control practice will help with our other techniques as well.

Lose less energy from our attacks.
>>
I don't think we'll be good enough at this to use it in our fight. If we use the oar we might not have to use the sunglasses.
>>
>>42278079
Or burn the whole candle into a mess of wax and fire if we apply too much.
>>42278032
Watch as the next team asks for weapons to be disbarred.
>>
>>42278127
An oar isn't a weapon. And we have to agree to the terms or they won't be used.
>>
>>42278036
You keep at it. If nothing else, you're a stubborn person. Kaya doesn't dissuade you from trying, and so the next several hours are spent on multiple attempts at levitating.

You see Kasai float by, and Bruce comes over to watch you repeatedly try and fail to levitate. In this way, another three hours pass.

Then, you finally get some progress. You barely notice at first, but your feet slowly but surely lift off the ground. It's only Kaya's face lighting up with happiness and pride that clues you into the fact that you're making progress. You look down and see that you're rising inch by inch into the air, using your Spirit Energy to lift yourself.

"Well done!" Kaya says, clapping her hands together joyously.

"Wow, that's pretty cool," Bruce comments. "I need to learn to do that."

You try to move yourself forward, and get a few inches before falling flat on your face. Kaya looks down to make sure you're okay, though it looks as if she's trying not to laugh.

"Nevermind," Bruce comments.

You feel exhausted, even though you were only in the air for a few moments. It's a chore to get back to your feet, and you're pretty sure you won't be able to walk anywhere by yourself right now.

Kaya looks surprised by this request, but ultimately hops off her oar and holds it out to you. You can see a reluctance in her as she does this, almost like a child surrendering their favorite toy, or someone giving away a precious heirloom.

You reach out and gingerly take the oar from her, slinging it over your shoulder like you've seen her do so many times.

In response, Kaya puts her hands on her hips and raises an eyebrow.

"Actually, don't answer that," you say, drawing a small chuckle from her. "So, why is this thing so important to you?"

When you reach the med wing, you find that Kasai has yet to return. Bruce and Kara help you back into bed, then take a step back, waiting for your explanation. The two of them listen quietly as you go over everything, though their reactions differ.

Bruce looks confused, as he often does, but ultimately that switches to concern as your explanation continues and he is able to understand more of the situation. Kara, on the other hand, almost immediately looks horrified, and not just like she finds the idea awful, but as if something about this situation deeply, deeply disturbs her.

I never understood this.

Why do we need to talk?

My girlfriend and I enjoy just sitting around with eachother and doing a whole lot of nothing.

You'll see couples doing the "no I love you!" shit and we just chuckle at it.

You don't need to talk to have a meaningful relationship, but I concede that without communication at all it will never work out.

Sometimes I feel like people are just starved for social interaction and just want to talk to someone.
>>
>>42280471
"Nevermind," you tell her. "I trust you guys to handle the fight."

Kara actually gives you a small smile at this. "Alright, then just focus on recovering. We may be able to handle this fight, but we'll probably need your help down the line."

"Yeah, I don't think we can handle Belial by ourselves," Bruce admits.

"I'd prefer to have everyone at the top of their game when that fight comes along," Kara agrees.

"Maybe Kasai should get some rest, too," Bruce suggests.

"Probably, but she's training right now," Kara tells him. "I'm sure she knows what she's doing."

Then you never paid attention to most of the threads when we are with her then.

Not to mention the last couple of threads where John wanted to know more about her that she basically acted surprise and curious herself about John's culture.

"Goodnight," Kara says before turning and leaving.

"Night, man," Bruce tells you before he follows.

Sleep comes quite easily, with you as exhausted as you are. And, as you'd hoped, you find yourself in the throne room of Koe's castle. The demon lord sits upon his throne, looking as if he's been expecting you, which he probably has.

"What do you think of this tournament so far?" you ask.

"Well, I'm quite impressed with Bruce's progress," Koe answers. "I'm disappointed in Aalgan's defeat, and in your reckless decision to challenge three members of the opposing team at once. I understand why you did it, and I'm certain Kasai is grateful, but you could have been killed, and now you are unable to participate in the next match...at least without help from an enemy."

"That reminds me, what can you tell me about Toguro's glasses?" you ask.

"As you're aware, they belonged to a demon named Toguro," Koe tells you. "He was infamous among humans and demons alike, and was arguably the most powerful demon in the human world for decades. But, I'm sure you're more interested in how exactly those glasses are supposed to help you recover."

"Ronove is a demon that has just recently come under the banner of Belial's master," he explains. "He was sought after for a particular talent he possessed, one you've experienced first hand before, in your battle with the demon Mahou. Ronove possesses great power over the dead, and is able to conjure and control spirits. Given that he's far more powerful than Mahou, he can control far more powerful spirits, such as Toguro. Those glasses, however, make summoning and controlling a spirit such as him simpler. And, by being in contact with those glasses, you'll be more susceptible to his spirit when it's conjured."

>>
Yeah I still want to use the glasses because it sounds interesting. Toguro is a badass.
>>
>>42281107
"So it's a trap?" you ask.

"I sincerely doubt it," Koe tells you. "If Ronove wished to see you die in the ring, he could just let you fight as you are."

"Well, how does this help me heal?" you ask.

"Oh, it's actually rather clever on Ronove's part," Koe comments. "You see, one of Toguro's most useful abilities, was his body's capability of repairing any damage it sustained. With Toguro's power, your injuries could heal in seconds."

"What exactly would happen to me, though?" you ask. "Would I end up like Mahou and absorb his spirit? Or am I going to be ripped apart from the inside? Would I fall under the control of Toguro or Ronove?"

"Toguro, even in life, was weaker than you are now," Koe tells you. "And his spirit has spent years in torment in the afterlife. He will not have the strength to overpower you. As for Ronove, I cannot say for sure. Controlling you during your match would serve little purpose for him, and Toguro's summoning would not be permanent, meaning his spirit would fade away long before you fought Belial and his team."

"So are these guys the real deal?" you ask. "Is that really that Lilith? Are they all big shots like Belial?"

"Yes, the demoness Lilith on Belial's team is the very same one of Judeo-Christian theology," Koe confirms. "She has existed for a very long time, and has not been kind to your species. She has corrupted pure-hearted humans, and stolen many lives. Like the vampires of human legend, she often seduces her prey, then feasts on their life energy, draining them until nothing but a husk remains. She can change shape, communicate with several species of animals, and even influence people by close proximity."

"Vepar is a water apparition," he continues. "And a powerful one at that. He can cause great storms at sea, and bring terrible floods on land. He can putrefy wounds, causing worms to breed inside his foes, devouring them from the inside out. Ziz is an ancient creature that terrorized early man. With his great wings he was said to be able to block out the sun. He swooped down from above, and carried off humans to devour. He is ancient and cunning, not a foe to be taken lightly."

Koe sighs. "I will be honest with you. Had I expected Belial to gather such a team, I would not have brought you to this tournament. Strong and gifted though you are, dependable and tenacious though your friends are, you are quite simply outmatched. You have overcome incredible odds before, but I fear you will be unable to destroy Belial and his team. Not here, not like this."

My intervention against Balor has caused several people to pay closer attention, and I sincerely doubt I would get away without being seen a second time."

"So what, are you suggesting I run from the tournament?" you ask.

"That may be your only chance of survival," Koe admits. "But even then, your prospects are grim."

Well, it was either fucking off into the woods or probably watching someone (or everyone) die in the ring.

My money is on Aalgan first, then Bruce, Kara, Kasai and then John.

Kaya probably goes somewhere in there too.

Or Koenma decides to not be a fucking shit and help us for once and we bail the fuck out before someone dies.
>>
>>42281779
And now that we're here we're being told it's impossible. We either give up now or watch our friends fight for two threads without doing anything. If we actually do fight it's just gonna be a trap that fucks us over somehow because we have to use the glasses. If we win the next fight our team is just gonna get killed by the stupidly overpowered Belial team afterwards.
>>
>>42281728
"Don't blame yourself," you tell him. "I'm staying at the tournament, though. The only choice I and the rest of the team have is to get stronger in each of our matches before we reach Belial's team."

"I doubt he'll allow us to escape," you answer. "He has the power's of his brother. If we run, he'll find us easily."

"I suppose you're right," Koe admits. "Then train as best you can, and do not take any more unnecessary risks. Getting crippled like this a second time could spell disaster for your team as a whole."

He smiles. "Kasai is training rather hard as we speak. She's working on a powerful new technique, one that nobody has attempted in quite some time. I look forward to seeing the results. Kara has learned a technique from one of the most powerful humans to ever live, Bruce is growing in strength, and Aalgan has learned a valuable lesson in humility."

"What I am saying, is that you do have a chance," Koe says. "A miniscule chance, one barely even worth considering. But as I've said, you've overcome impossible odds before. Let's hope that doesn't change now."

"What technique is Kasai working on?" you ask.

"One that hasn't been used in centuries," Koe answers. "A powerful technique of fire that, if used by the right individual, could be devastating. To be honest, I'm not positive she can do it. It requires drawing upon a very specific source of power, one that most believe to have been extinguished long ago."

"And who'd Kara learn from?" you ask.

"A powerful Spiritually Aware human, who fought in this tournament before," Koe answers.

"So, are there any tricks or techniques you could teach me?" you ask.

"Nothing that I could teach you in the next day," Koe says apologetically. "But you have everything you need to come up with new techniques on your own. I believe Koenma even suggested combining fire with your Spirit Gun. In any case, I'm afraid you're on your own for this one."

Not entirely true. You have your team, and with their help, you just might make it.

Oh, a lot of people think your team is toast.

>>42282306
After this one? You'll have one more fight, then Belial.

>>42282321
Mostly John

>>42282324
Not before this one. Not really.

>>42282333
Yes, with the barrier down, more powerful demons are in the human world. So, they've pretty much taken the tournament spots.
>>
>>42282215
How the hell did Bruce catch up to us so quickly?
>>
>>42282347
It's been a while since I've watched the show, how do humans become demons? Toguro used to be human if I remember correctly.
>>
>>42282347
So, if we spot Mr Faggot behind the demons in the crowd

Couldn't we just let Koenma go over and stab him in the throat til he dies and then gank Belial and run like a bitch?
>>
>>42282367
That was his wish for winning the tournament. Him and his brother.
>>
>>42282349
Aalgan trained him hard, and helped him reach his Spirit Energy. With Bruce though, his power can vary greatly from time to time. At his strongest, he might be able to overpower you, though that could cause other problems. At his weakest, he'd be killed pretty much immediately in any of these fights.

>>42282367
That was never really explained beyond "the tournament committee did it"

>>42282368
I assume you mean Johnson. And Idunno, Koenma was afraid to fight a human in the last Dark Tournament.
>>
>>42282368
Only if it involves a baby carriage, Kaya is the fake mom and Koenma stabs the guy in baby form.

Because that would be awesome.
>>
>>42282412
Fuck I wish we had a drawfriend for that.
>>
>>42282403
That's weird. We had hellish intense training for 6 months to get this strong and Bruce caught up to us in a few days.
>>
>>42282403
So how did John's mom die?
>>
>>42282441
This is the chicken mafia all over again.

Stop fucking digging.
>>
>>42282441
You're the strongest in your group, Bruce would have to be in like, hulk level rage to match/overpower you, and at that point he probably couldn't focus enough to do it.

>>42282443
A fire.
>>
>>42282441
Bruce has become a legend!

That's right anon, you aren't dealing with your average spirit warrior. Bruce has surpassed the myth became the legendary spirit warrior!
>>
>>42282480
His power is maximum
>>
>>42282468
Wait at our house or apartment?
>>
>>42282468
>A fire

Oh shit. Our fire is fueled by our dead mom! That's why John likes Kasai. He reminds her of his mother. In the best and worst ways possible.

>>42282497
Also was it done by a yellowed eyed demon?
>>
>>42282495
are there comparisons being made between us and Yosuke?
>>
>>42282495
Can we add our fire to our spirit blast and spirit explosion too?
>>
>>42282515
In some ways, you remind Koenma of Yusuke.

>>42282497
Your house. You were at preschool and your dad was at work.

>>42282509
What are you implying?
>>
>>42282530
Yes, but be careful, it will take more energy and be more volatile.
>>
>>42282532
>What are you implying?
Incest is wincest?

That our mom was smoking hot?
>>
>>42282558
You're not half demon
>>
>>42282561
Never said that.

Implied John would fuck his mother.

Step up your game up.
>>
>>42282532
Well shit looks like John might have actually meet one of Kasai's siblings in a unfortunate way. Or it was that same jackass arson that burnt Yusuke's house.
>>
>>42282589
Maybe it wasn't a sibling.

Or maybe it was

Maybe it was an arson
>>
>>42282532
I'm implying that the traumatic fiery death of John's mother (may or may not be demon related) is what allows John to control fire.
>>
>>42282597
Possibly
