After our MCs death during a plane crash, he must have rolled a critical success on someone's ress tables, because former fa/t g/uy and chemical engineer found himself on a world of Sword & Sorcery the likes of which he had always dreamt about, a world where the rules of the world seem to be those of old jRPGs and where he is able to see his and other people's character sheets.

Hey guys, starting on time again, thankfully.
Last time, we left the crew as they flew over a mountain towards the southernmost fortress of Heven, to find it besieged by hundreds of humanoid-shaped [ERROR]s.

Let me know when you are here
>>

I'm here but my posting will be sporadic.
>>
It might be best to go over what we know of [ERROR]s first.
We know that using spells that hit for a percentage of HP work best.
We also know people tend to be kept alive inside of them because they are eaten and slowly corrupted into another [ERROR].

I don't think we were able to figure out a way to capture one.

Right, that was a error "mother" or breeder... yeah lets call it a breeder. These are victims that have already been converted, tho the breeder is probably somewhere in the crowd because so far i"pure" errors haven't shown much intelligence.

Anyway, the breeder was a horror-like thing that only 1/2 existed here through its eye sensor, which allowed it to see where to manifest. Once you took that out, it couldnt keep itself here.

We didn't fight the converted people before because we rescued them on time
>>
>>42288729
so these people have already been converted and there's no way to save them?
Maybe we could try a Revive spell?

alright starting then.

As the ship goes over the mountain peak, the sight before it turns black. Hundreds of completely black [ERROR]s seem to soak up the light as if they were devouring it, while ramming themselves against the fortress' walls.

They have roughly the same size and shape as humans, but most of them also have claws produting from their backs which may have been wings. Even so, these are nothing but spikes now, and it doesn't looks as if any of them can fly.

The defendants are shooting and throwing things at them from atop the walls while the [ERROR]s continue to simply ram against them with no tactics. However, the weapons of the defenders seem to have very little effect, and it leads to a stalemate.

From your previous encounter with the breeder [ERROR], you remember that it was able to walk through walls and other solid objects, so it may have already gone into the fortress, albeit the way in which the soldiers continue to fight seems to challenge that idea.

Have Eldric, Tanis, Atruma, and Nina look for the Breeder while Okaba and Kya evacuates the defenders to the ship.

Eldric can summon his dragon mount (I can't remember his name, now), and the others can fly.

Can Asmund fly? He should come along with Eldric if he can.

I dont think Okaba or Kya (or Dawn or any other humanoid-sized flyer) actually could ... oh, the harpies probably could lift someone since they have a very small build designed for lifting power since thats how they hunt, come think about it.

Thats why the halfling was using them as thieves, because they can lift heavy things. But pretty much no other humanoid could fly with even a moderate load.

So, send the harpies to evacuate people while the others look for the breeder?

We should have Okaba or Kya tell the defenders to cooperate with the harpies first, just so there's no mistakes.

And Nina will need to keep her sisters on-task.

Eldric quickly calls out Nina and her sisters (we really should name them, right?), then ask Kya to go with them to the fortress and help evacuate non combatants while the rest of us go down and try to take out the monster's boss.

Well, its easier and faster to explain that the whole dynamic between the humanoid [ERROR]S and the breeder [ERROR].

"What should I do?" -Stella is ready to help, but being unable to fly, she's unsure on how
"Go in and call for everyone. I am sure they will think of ways to help as well."

Stella runs under the deck, while Okaba, Asmund, Dawn and ourselves jump overboard and take flight, looking for the breeder in the crowd of hundreds.

As we take a closer look now, we can see that even while their wings have whitered away, the humanoid errors are using them as an extra pair of limbs to attack with, using their bones as spiked weapons to attack the walls with. Most of them have horns as well, so it looks like the feral succubus tribe has alread been converted.

There are a couple of clearly arachnid [ERROR]s, which look as if they were driders or some other humanoid-sized arachnid before being converted, albeit they seem unable to climb up the walls.

Apparently, the converted [ERROR]s lose whatever special abilities they had before. The succubus and majins can't fly, and the spiderfolk are unable to climb walls. Instead, they are being used as living battering rams against the fortress thick walls.

Dawn lets out a fireball against the battlefield as a way to signal the rest of us that she's found the breeder.

Steering out dragon mount towards the area, we see it is a much larger version of the one we took out before. It also has three eyes, two of which are floating above its body, with one inside its maw's depths.

Unlike the previous one, this breeder is shaped more like a caterpillar than a humanoid, with many thick and stubby legs that slowly push him along the ground.

Its maw is but a large opening on its front, without teeth or fangs of any klng. Instead, it has countless short (in comparison to the very long ones outside its mouth) and thick tentacles to secure its prey with and drag them into its body.

Its body looks armored, unlike the previous breeder, which was much more lithe and built for speed and grace. It is obviously slower, but its tentacles give it a deceiving reach and seem to flail with great speed. Probably more of a slow-moving dreadnought type.

"Attack it from above!" -shouts Eldric as he approaches atop his golden dragon

Okaba lets out an arcane blast, while Asmund and Dawn bombard it with ice and metal spikes, respectively.

As we approach, our dragon breathes fire down against the thing, and we too pour out a dragonforce arcane blast unto its body.

The effects are dramatic. The spells clash against its armor like waves against the rocks, splashing magical power everywhere unto the battlefielf. Dozens of the converted [ERROR]s are blasted and fall down, but the breeder itself seems unnaffected.

Its long tentacles reach out and grab Asmund, who turns into myst to escape and rises up to avoid another attack. It stopped moving however, and is lashing back and forth as it tries to grab us.

Thankfully it cannot fly.

Well, it looks as if it had no effect, but it DID clash with something solid. Last time, our attacks simply had no effect whatsoever and were absorbed as if by a black hole. This time, we found a solid obstable before us.

"Let's try attacking the same spot!" -shouts Eldric from atop his dragon
"Where and when!?" -cries out Asmund as he flies over towards us, having sprout huge bat wings
"The top of its mouth. If we can break it open, we can target the eye inside" -suggests Okaba after he joins us

However, the breeder seems to think this is a great time to attack as well. It faces towards us, and as we finally gather in a single group, it blasts us with a wide beam of "Demi", lowering our hp by half in a single go.

Thanks to our resistances, the damage is greatly reduced, but we still lost about 15% of our HP in a single blast. Asmund and Okaba cleanly lost 50% of their own, too!

"Spread out, don't give it such a convenient target! aim on top of its mouth after Dawn's blast!" -shouts Asmund as he flies off, and gives instructions to his sister

Since she has the lowest (everything is relative, of course) magic attack of our group, she will throw a fireball and we will time our attacks to when it hits.

Like that, we manage to all hit the same spot at the same time.

The blast of all three dragonforce spells is felt quite some distance away, and when the dust clears, it shows that the breeder's head is cracked and bleeding, the roof of its mouth gone, its inner eye exposed.

As retaliation, it reaches out and grabs for Dawn with its long tentacles, quickly pulling her into its shattered maw.

Asmund dives in after her, throwing himself into the maw before the caterpillar has the chance to grab him as well. The count is actually quite strong, and he manages to grab one of the edges of the maw as well as his sister, but the tentacles are pulling them both in still.

>Blast the eye. Asmund is undead and will respawn on his own, and we can ress Dawn. (will worsen our relationship with Asmund, though)

I like that pic. Another ninja uniform suggestion?

"If I get swallowed, blast the eye." -says Eldric as he jumps off the dragon towards the [ERROR]s mouth.

The tentacles fly up and surround him, but they are focusing on closing behind him and preventing his escape, rather than grabbing it. The thing doesn't knows that Eldric is planning on diving into its mouth. It is something it cannot understand.

The inside of the maw is nothing but tentacles. There is no light, and it is hard to tell which way is out, but as we are getting swallowed, we rub with Dawn's leg, and feeling our way up, we manage to grab the eye itself, or rather, its stalk, with one hand, and Dawn's hand with the other.

There's no signs of Asmund, but he may be holding Dawn's other hand as far as we know. It is hard to tell what's going on beyond a couple of inches because of the tentacles wrapping around us and almost blindfolding us.

"...st it!?" -we can hear Asmund, but only barely

>Blast the eyestalk while we are holding unto it
>Blast into the body of the breeder (will need to let go of Dawn for a moment and may not find her again)

>>>Blast the eyestalk while we are holding unto it

We have to let go of the eyestalk to vlast it, the dragonforce blast shining forth inside the maw of the breeder [ERROR] and letting us see our friends for a moment as the tentacles wither away.

Asmund is biting into the edge of the thing's mouth, having pulled himself up and then biten on it so he could use both hands to hold unto Dawn.

Since he had to let go of the eyestalk for a moment, we feel further down into the breeder's throat, except for the hand we are using to hold unto Dawn's own hand. Asmund groans as he's holding both of us with his mouth.

Dawn wraps her tail around out chest and tries to grab us with her legs to no effect.

The [ERROR] convulses, and blasts all three of us again at point blank, eating away another 15% of our hp, and 50$ of our friends, leaving them down with 1/4.

Thankfully, the eye is gone, and the monster starts squirming and convulsing, then spits us out of its mouth unto the dirt as it wraps unto himself, turning into a black sphere with an eye on the front and back of itself.

The converted [ERROR]s swarm us, but they seem confused, since they can't carry us to the breeder's maw (it doesn't exist right now).

It isn't hard to push them off. They are only as strong as they were before, even if they are apparently invulnerable.

"Now, blast it!" -shouts Eldric

Asmund and Dawn blast the curled up [ERROR] from where they are, with Okaba joining in when he sees us attack.

The blasts envelop it, and it shrieks as its eyes melt, and its body is "abandoned" by the thing that was manifesting it in our world. Or rather, that thing can no longer control it, so it is discarded.

As we had hoped for, the converted humanoids lose purpose and collapse to the ground.

A few days later, the diagnosis is not good. Those who were converted cannot be turned back. Their whole bodies have been reshaped into a solid mass of the stuff the [ERRPR]s are made from, with only their exterior shapes remaining humanoid.

They lay immovile, but it is hard to call them dead or living. As the situation becomes clearer with time, it seems the [ERROR] wiped out the mining settlements in the border, and absorbed the succubus tribe we hoped to add to our cause.

Was this a random occurrence, or did they do it to keep us from adding the succubus to our forces? how could the [ERROR]s guess what our intentions were?

*** While talking on the fortress' main hall during a meal. ***

"What should we do with the bodies? resurrection magic had no effect" -Uncle Dan just finished trying to heal the affected humanoids.- "They aren't dead, but I wouldn't call them alive either."
"Should we not dispose of them? if another breeder comes close, they may rise again. We can't take them into the fortress because of it, and of course we can't take them into a city." -says Kya
"They may be salvageable, just not with the knowledge we have right now. If later it turns out that they could be saved, just how bitterly would we regret taking them out now?" -says Asmund
"Aren't they invulnerable anyway? talk disposal after we find how to harm them." -says Okaba

"Got it, alright. I will go and ask The Lady myself."
"Oh? you have some interesting connections, Eldric" -says Asmund from where he is sitting while enjoying a glass of liquor
"Well, its nothing spectacular. There is a shrine near my hometown, so it will just [Treestride] over and back right away. I think I will also check on the state of my house. Haven't been there in years."
"Eldric's hometown? You are not from Albion?" -asks Dawn
"No, my family had to relocate during the war, actually. If the town made it, it should be mostly abandoned, so it's not an interesting place. I will just be right back."

In the end, Zoe asks us to take her along. Since it is a rare request by our lion little sister, we agree and [Treestride] along with her.

We emerge on the tree that grows in our front garden.
The house's doors and windows are still boarded.
Even though the town is empty, it sure gives us quite a bit of nostalgia.

We can see the central watch tower where dad gave us a crossbow, and later our family's sword.

The town is... surprisingly untouched. It feels as if the houses are simply waiting for their tennants to return.

I wonder if people will come back one day? it has been half a decade already, people probably have made new lives elsewhere already.

The vines and weeds have grown freely and now cover the small town, with rabbits grazing peacefully in the gardens and birds chirping from the fences and abandoned orchards, happily picking at the fruit trees.

"Aaah... there's rabits!" -Zoe seems to be happy with the town's current state.

Well, she didn't know it before now, so for her, its a place with a lot of fruit, birds and rabbits, I guess.

Maybe we could come back to the house later... for now, let's make it to the shrine.

"You know, your big brother fought a huge bear in that cave over there." -we point out the cave for Zoe

"Poor bear..."

Right, for Zoe, we were always strong, so a bear doesn't seems like a threat at all.

After a while, we make it to the shrine, and as dad taught us, we offer some coins and a prayer.

A few moments pass by, and soon a whirpool of water forms in the nearby river, and the Lady comes forth. She is dressed in a long blue dress that reminds us a little of greek fashion, but she also has a couple of headphones hanging around her neck, and they have a cable leading to a small player hanging from the cleavage between her breasts. Well, for a person of this world, these would be unknown items...

"Oh, if it isn't the little hero. And who is this cute beast girl? did you change partners? I had the impression that the cute redhead really loved you, you know?" -she says after greeting us
"No! no, this is Zoe, my (adopted) little sister."
"It is a pleasure to meet you." -Zoe says politely
"Oh, what a good child. Uh... you are a voltronite priestess, uh? if you switched religion towards me, I'd give you a nice bonus."
"B-but my mommy would be upset..."
"Ahh... I'd like to have a cute kitty priestess with snow-white hair... I feel like I need to unlock that character, now..."

We didn't hear anything. We didn't hear the goddess say she wanted to unlock a character, right?

"Actually, I'm a lion!" -says Zoe proudly
"...t-that's... that's so cool... " -the Lady is showing her geek side
*cough* "Ah, great Lady, if I may... we wanted to know what happens to the people who get turned by the [ERROR]s. Are they still alive elsewhere? or are they rebuilt?"
"Oh, you have been busy, I see... right, honestly, we don't know."
"We?"
"The gods of this world, we don't know. They sort of... dissapear. Their souls haven't gone back to the source, so they may still be alive elsehwhere. We think that the converted errors are more like... replacements. Mannequins that usurp the place of those captured."

"Your birthday is soon, remember to come back then. I will have a nice gift for you."

With that, the lady seems to evaporate, and we [Treestride] back to the fortress in Heven's southern border.

As we arrive, we find that the baron that lords over the fortress is actually having a talk with Okaba. Since the mining towns were destroyed, the region has lost its value until the towns can be re-developed.

"Your friend is quite the optimist, sire" -says the baron
"Eldric, listen, we have been at war with Lapsiona every year for over a thousand years now, I don't think..." -starts Okaba

"That is a novelty, the peace loving champion of needless freedoms doesn't wants peace?" -says Asmund from his seat some feet away
"It's complicated" -says Okaba
"Of course it is. You have been at war for so long that you were never able to properly exploit the mines, right? over a thousand years? most mines dont last more than a few decades, you know?"
"Well, the mountains are nearly solid blocks of ore."
"I see. No wonder they're so valuable... and you can't share them because that would flood the markets and drop the value of the ore itself, right?"
"...right."

>Why don't you impose a quota on the mines? no more than a fixed amount of ore can be sent to the markets every year
>Well, how about we export the ore to the rest of the world to harvest profit in far away markets?

"That would be nice, but the routes normally going from Alquia to the Heavenly Empire through our waters have been recently redirected." -says Okaba in a neutral tone

Ah, right, we did that to deny profits to Alquia, right?

"W-well, with the new fleet of rockit ships, we can start new routes that are completely under your control right?"
"Right now, we are going through a lot of political and social changes. I don't think we can afford to build an actual fleet right now." -says Okaba
"You could if you redirected funds from the army, your highness. If the purpose is to invade Lapsiona, nobody would object to building a large fleet."
"I don't really intend to invade anyone, however. We could use that fleet for national safety, however."
"Well, perhaps we should find out how the situation inLapsiona is like? after all, the [ERROR]s came from the south, right?"

With that, it becomes obvious that we need to see what happened to Lapsiona. Is it now a wasteland populated only by [ERROR]s?

Let's end there for now. It feels like a lot happened today, doesn't it?

I was expecting more slice of life fun times, succubus edition.
I got the hell of civilians being turned into a solid block of flesh whom I cannot help.

Good times, bro!
