It's a day until the third round, and your team is training hard.

Well, most of them are, as far as you can tell. Aalgan wandered off into the woods sometime right after dawn, and Kasai has been spending the last few hours in deep meditation.

With Kara's help, Bruce's arm has gone through an accelerated recovery. As best as Kara can tell, it will finish healing itself within an hour or so. Kara herself stopped working on it before she went to bed last night, and now stands in front of you in a fighting stance.

"Look, John, I haven't had a single fight since we started this tournament," she tells you. "I need to know exactly where I stand, and I think a sparring match should give me a good indication."

So does Koe know something similar to the spirit cuffs, probably something like demon cuffs that act the same way, but at the same time try and corrupt the users spirit energy if they don't maintain a balance of it to keep the demon energy at bay.
>>
>>42314267
"Attack whenever you're ready," you tell her, dropping into a defensive stance.

Kara nods, then runs at you, seeming to vanish from sight almost immediately. A faint surge of Spirit Energy behind you gets your attention, and you turn just in time to receive a kick to the face. You stagger back, and Kara moves in, pummeling your gut with a rapid barrage of punches before throwing an uppercut that slams into your jaw and knocks you to the ground.

She jumps, and you roll out of the way as he fist slams into the ground, creating a deep crater/ Hopping back to your feet, you block the next kick she throws, and answer with one of your own, narrowly missing her face as she hastily leaps back.

You say the word, and your body erupts into flames, flames that quickly extinguish themselves and reveal the suit Koe gave you.

"No point in either of us getting hurt in this spar," you tell Kara. "So, we should set the rule that the winner is whoever can pin their opponent for five seconds."

"Deal," Kara tells you, running towards you once again.

She leaps above you, pointing down at you with her right index finger, which begins to glow blue.

"SPIRIT GUN!"

A blast of Spirit Energy flies from her finger, heading right towards you. Clenching your hand into a fist, you punch the blast as it reaches you. Her attack pushes against your hand, very nearly pushing it back, before you give an extra burst of energy, and slowly push the attack away, sending it flying up into the sky.

Your right hand feels numb for a moment as Kara lands, staring into the sky as her blast disappears.

"Well...I guess that answers that," Kara comments, sounding both impressed and disappointed. "I still have some training to do."

A sound from the trees catches your attention, and you immediately turn your head towards it. Kara and Bruce to the same, and even Kasai, who is hovering in the air not too far away opens her eyes to see what's coming.

You feel cold, and nauseous, and weak. You feel as though you have about ten different sicknesses all at once, and it takes effort just to remain standing.

"A-anyone else feel like they're gonna be sick?" Bruce asks from behind you.

"Y-yes," Kara comments, sounding like she's shivering.

From the forest, a creature you've seen once before emerges. He's tall, with powerful arms and legs, and a single, closed eye on his head.

Belial.

"All of the training in the world won't save you," he comments, turning his head towards Kara. "I thought Koenma smarter than to send his precious Spirit Detective on a suicide mission."

You hear Kara give an angry hiss, but she doesn't say anything more.

Belial smirks, turning his head towards you. "And you as well. You're here to fight a battle you can't possibly win. I thought Koe more cunning than to send you headlong into this kind of battle. Or perhaps he's betrayed you, it wouldn't be the first time he's done that to an ally."

"Well I can see where your little brother got his attitude," you comment. "And what the hell are you talking about this not being the first time?"

Belial smirks. "What would you say if I told you that Koe was once an ally to my master? That the two of them made a deal for the conquest of your world. What would you say if I told you that he was the one who told us of Mahou, and even the one who told us of Koenma's new Spirit Detective, Kara?"

"And I'm supposed to renounce my loyalty to him because of shit in the past?" you ask. "Get bent."

Belial chuckles. "Koe chose a loyal pet indeed. Truth be told, I don't care where your loyalties lie. As I said, I'm only here to find out if you'll be able to give me a challenge."

Belial's eye slowly starts to open.

"Brace yourself!" Kasai warns.

Before Belial's eye is even half open, you feel as it a truck has just slammed into you. You're lifted off of your feet and sent flying through the air, crashing right through tree after tree after tree and landing deep in the forest.

You're bleeding, though you can't tell where. You still feel so weak, and it takes a lot to even push yourself back up. You look around to see your friends struggling to do the same. The sky darkens. A powerful gust of wind blows at you, and you instinctively raise a hand to shield yourself before your attention is drawn by a squawk from above.

"This is it?" a voice demands. "Belial could defeat all of these fools blindfolded!"

You look up to see a massive winged creature hovering above the forest, seeming to indeed be blocking out the sun.

Ziz.

You can't make out anything about the creature other than its size and the fact that it has wings, but something is greatly unsettling about it.

"As a matter of fact, I could kill them all just as easily," Ziz comments, sounding more disappointed than amused.

You point your right index finger up at Ziz, gathering energy into it and feeding that energy with your inner flame. Your finger glows blue, and flames begin to dance around it as you take aim, concentrating your energy at best you can for a precise and devastating attack.

"SPIRIT GUN!" you shout, shooting a thin orange beam of energy from your fingertip.

Ziz squawks and gives a mighty flaps of his wings, creating a guest of wind so powerful it slams your entire body to the ground and sends it sliding back towards the trees. Your blast is redirected, and crashes somewhere deep into the forest with an impact that makes the ground shake. You see smoke rising in the distance, and quickly realize that your attack has started a fire.

"Pathetic," Belial comments as he steps into the clearing. "And you still cling to hope that you can defeat me. You show some promise, boy. Under the tutelage of my master, you could have become a fighter of note, but instead you chose to fight, and you can't stand up to even one of us."

Ziz squawks with laughter up above. "He thought he could hurt me with that attack? Why are humans always so foolish?"

Belial chuckles. "Attacking you was a foolish move."

The large demon crouches down in front of you, looking right at you even with a closed eye.

"You attacked one of my teammates, now I'm going to attack one of yours," he tells you. "And they won't be able to stop it."

You gather everything you have, raising your left hand and pointing your index finger right at Belial. The demon takes a step back as you push yourself back to your feet.

"Another attack?" he asks. "Some people never learn, do they?"

Your left index finger glows orange, and you take aim.

"John, don't try it!" Kara warns.

"SPIRIT GUN!" you scream, firing the most powerful blast you can muster at Belial.

The demon stays where he is, holding out his left palm as the blast comes right for him. Your attack slams into his palm, pushing against him. For a moment, it looks as if you might actually succeed in pushing him back. His heels dig into the dirt, and you see him move back an inch, then two. Then, with a yell, he pushes your attack back, sending it right back over your shoulder.

"Kara, look out!" you hear Bruce shout before Kara lets out a frightened cry.

You hear a loud crash and see a bright flash of light in the corner of your eye. You turn, and see a line of broken trees, most of which are now burning. Kara is nowhere to be seen.

Exhausted, you fall to your knees, and Belial laughs as he walks past you.

"Your arrogance has cost one friend dearly already," he comments. "And I still haven't made my attack."

You gasp in pain as Belial's foot comes down on your head.

"Hold still, I think you might want to see this," he tells you.

You see Bruce and Kasai turn their attention back to Belial, each of them dropping into a fighting stance. Bruce's aura is a bright red, and spreads for several yards around him. Kasai's body is covered in flames, and her fists crackle with energy.

You see Kasai's eyes widen, and an instant later, her body becomes surrounded by a red light. Her eyes suddenly turn black, and she lets out a shriek before she falls to her knees, the flames on her body dying as she collapses.

Belial removes his foot from your head, stepping back.

/tg/ can't handle any kind of failure. It always falls apart into shitposting whenever any failure occurs, no matter how slight. First, /tg/ blames people for 'voting wrong'. After enough time, it starts to blame the QM. It doesn't matter what the QM actually did, some faggot will always whine about how if ONLY the QM told them everything that was going to happen with every choice then surely failure could be avoided.

The problem is that not only can /tg/ not deal with failure, it also suffers from clinical stupidity. Exalted quest had players be given multiple warnings to get the hell out of dodge, which they repeatedly ignored, and resulted in the MC getting killed and resurrected by their patron god (and out of mercy of the QM despite the raging idiocy going on in the thread).

And the QM's players still got angry at him.

The vast majority were under the impression that John and co. had a chance. From your own writing we were supposed to

But here we are, being thrown about like we are level 1 mooks when we are at A class strength, or upper B-class.

There was no chance, there was never any chance, and anything that makes us have a chance is fiat macguffin bullshit and no one likes that.

When all the effort you put into something results in an entirely pointless result with the only thing fixing it being a specific stipulation after following cliche it's just exhausting. It stops being fun and becomes a grind.

On your part it was misleading, and everyone elses part it was confidence or stupidity.

This was fun, the Balor fight was pretty fun. The Mahou fight was pretty fun, the redneck demon fight was fun, getting the shit slapped out of us by Kaya was pretty fun, this isn't fun.

I mean, it takes a real nigga to do something like give something that houses some of the spirit of the big bad of the show's version of this arc.

I chose to leave.

You proposed a chance. You did, even if small, you proposed a chance. What does that mean? That means we are supposed to take this huge risk. That is how most of /tg/ thinks.

You're expecting /tg/ to understand what you mean when most of us are unable to grasp what you want.

Let's look at this, Koe wanted us to fight in this tournament, expecting Belial to not have a team of near biblical proportions. Meanwhile, Belial himself is massively more powerful than we could hope to become. To the point of everyone on our team being unable to defeat him, yet Koe still sent us here?

It was a death sentence from the start, even without all of his allies being so strong, the entire team couldn't stop Belial.

There was -no- chance yet you said there was a slim one.

And you know what would happen if we did get our shit together and ran?

Belial would have chased us, and we'd be in this exact situation.

Really, SOM.
>>
>>42317300
You just told us that we should have given up and left the tournament. There's a difference between difficult obstacles and whatever this is supposed to be.
>>
>>42317303
Not to mention all the other emulations. Regular human guy who's evil and has demons working for him? Check. Flame dragon attack? Check. Standard spirit techniques? Checkaroni. Honestly, if I listed off all the emulations, i'd be writing all night. It'd be nice if som was more creative, but from what I've seen...that doesn't seem all that possible. Either that, or he can be creative, he just doesn't want to.

"What did you do to her?" you demand of Belial.

"I believe she told you herself," he responds. "I blinded her. I could have killed her, but decided that me taking the life of one of your friends wouldn't hurt nearly as badly as doing it yourself."

"She's alive!" you hear Bruce call from nearby. "Kara is still alive!"

"Well then, it seems you still have a full team afterall," Belial comments, smirking as he steps back. "See you in a few days. Enjoy them, they'll be your last."

Belial turns and walks off into the woods, Ziz flying off in the same direction, and leaving you alone with your friends.

You retrieve your communication mirror, opening it and contacting Koenma. All you tell him is to send Kaya, and you close the mirror before he has time to say anything else. Bruce carries Kara over, and you hold Kasai until Kaya arrives.

When she sees you all, she goes into full panic mode, at first believing Kara to be dead. She calms down when she finds out that the girl is still alive, and takes her to the medical wing before coming back for the rest of you. You and Kasai get up on the oar, and Bruce tells you that he'll meet you at the hotel.

Kaya flies you the short distance there, and begins helping you towards the building, when a chill runs down your spine, and a voice speaks clearly in your mind.

"We need to talk," Koe tells you.

"Welcome back," he greets. "Today was not a good one for you."

What am I suppose to do about Belial now, we can't beat him the way everyone is, isn't there some way to get everyone strong enough to stand a chance against his team. No matter how tough or whatever it takes I want to make him pay for what he did to Kasai and Kara. Even Bruce would agree, Aalgan would go with it as well if means he has a chance of survival."

>>

You do as he says, putting your hands together and holding them out, and then putting your feet together.

Koe rises from his throne and slowly approaches, touching your wrists and shouting something you don't understand. Red rings appear around your wrist, connected by a strand of light. Suddenly your arms feel incredibly heavy, and quickly collapse to the ground in front of you, forcing you to bend over. An instant later, your ankles are given the same treatment, and you can't move a muscle.

"These are called Demon Cuffs," Koe explains. "With these in place, you'll be able to gain quite a bit of power. Physical strength has its limits for humans, but your Spirit Energy still has a great deal of room to grow. Without your spirit and body working in complete unity, you won't be able to so much as move a muscle."

>>42319091
>>42319096
You try to move, but find yourself unable to do so. It's only when you focus your Spirit Energy that you can spread your arms apart.

"So, how long do these things need to be in place for?" you ask.

"As long as possible," he answers. "Do not remove them until it is absolutely necessary."

"Why did you wait to use these?" you ask. "And can anybody else on the team use them?"

"I waited to use them because prolonged exposure to demon energy can have adverse effects on humans," Koe explains. "As for your teammates using them, Kasai has more pressing concerns, and Aalgan refuses to use anything that weakens him even temporarily. Bruce may say yes, but Kara will certainly refuse out of principle. For now, you must keep yourself at top shape at all times in order to use these properly. And be careful to keep your emotions in check while you wear these."

How badly hurt is Kara?
>>
>>42319251

also how can we heal or find a way to get Kansais eye sight back?
>>
>>42319251
>And be careful to keep your emotions in check while you wear these.
I have utter faith that we'll manage that.

We're going to be a demon by the end of this arc, aren't we?
>>
>>42319251
>And be careful to keep your emotions in check while you wear these."

No untoward thoughts towards Kasai, then?

Damn, shame.
>>
>>42319251
So how do we bring Kasai's sight or do we have to kill Beliel to dispel the curse?
>>
>>42319273
She'll be out for the next day or two

>>42319285
You probably can't.

>>42319299

>>42319303
Your main concern with her should be keeping her alive

>>42319305

Why not use a more original training method? We don't have to copy everything from some part of the show. We have an uncountably old, immensely powerful mentor. I'm sure he knows of better training techniques than not!spiritcuffs.

So Koe waited until we were super pissed because our team got fucked up to give us the training method that's dangerous when we feel strong emotion? That makes no sense.

Whoa, whoa, hold on, let's not touch Castlevania.

The early ones were good, it's been a steady decline.

I would say try Onimusha, but that wouldn't be easy, either.

Basically avoid older stuff, because they tended to be secret heavy, and /tg/ is utter shit at secrets.
