Welcome back to Mortal Kombat Konquest.

When we last left our hero, the world-famous martial arts master and movie star John "Johnny Cage" Carlton, he fought a crazy stalker who thought he was a tarkatan, travelled to the shaolin temples in China, fought a dragon with Liu Kang and met someone who claimed to be Kitana's daughter, but that's not possible... or is it?

You called the OWEA, but the main bulk of the Special Forces, including Sonya and her team, are away on mission in Outworld. You told them about the inter-realm conflict, but all they did was ask you to file a report. Outworld is where you're headed right now, but for a different reason: you need to travel to Edenia and get in contact with Princess Kitana and tell her that there is someone running around claiming to be her daughter.

You are currently back at the shaolin temples, in the dead of night. Tomorrow morning, you will go on your quest with Liu. He has given you the night to prepare and the shaolin have graciously provided for you with supplies and a neat wool jacket, since apparently the portal is somewhere very cold.

As you settle in for the night, you make your plans for tomorrow morning.

>A) Bring someone else in Earthrealm with you to Outworld
>B) Leave with just Liu; once in Outworld, get in contact with Sonya's team
>C) Find Liu and ask him why he has chosen to not inform Raiden of these events

There anyone that might want to come to Outworld with us? Maybe Kung Lao, maybe Nightwolf? Ask around.

>C) Find Liu and ask him why he has chosen to not inform Raiden of these events
Liu seems to know there's something up with Raiden. I mean, Raiden seemed kinda... odd, last we saw him. But he's still Raiden, isn't he?

You go and find Liu, who is meditating. You sit near him and cross your legs.

"Something on your mind?" he asks.

"I was wondering why you don't want Raiden to get involved in this whole business. I thought you trusted him."

Liu is silent for several moments, contemplating his response. "I am not so sure the thunder god is all that he once was. After his battle with the crimson thunder..."

"Yeah, but what has changed?"

"I believe he may misunderstand the situation. I want to talk to Kitana and get her side of this before we bring Raiden into this matter. This woman, Shinkana, if she truly is Kitana's daughter... Raiden may not look too kindly on Edenia."

"What do you mean?"

"When I last travelled to his temple, he spoke to me... He told me something troubling. He said that he was going to start taking his defense of Earthrealm more seriously; he would begin seeking out threats to the realm himself and destroying them."

"What? That doesn't sound like something he would say. I mean, Raiden's always been a bit of a stick in the mud, but what could he mean by that?"

"I do not know, but it violates what he has stood for up until now. He has been a defender... not an arbitrator of violence."

"So, where is Kung Lao?"

"He is in Outworld, training with Master Bo' Rai Cho. He left to assist our old master in training some new recruits from a local Outworld village."

"Oh, that's neat. So, we'll meet up with him, then?"

He nods. "We shall. Prepare yourself, Johnny Cage. The journey to the portal will be arduous."

You sleep through the night and leave with Liu in the morning. When he said arduous, you didn't think it would take a week to get there, climbing up mountains. You can't even get cell phone reception. But like a good warrior, you man up and deal with it. You bet the tabloids are going nuts back home... especially after that run-in with Doctor Zane.

At the height of a great mountain, Liu finally tells you that you are not far away.

"It's about time," you tell him, calling over the wind. "I've had enough mountains to last me a lifetime..."

Liu leads you to the edge. "So, where is it?" you ask.

He looks at you, smiles, and then jumps off.

"LIU!"

As he falls, he vanishes into thin air through an invisible portal.

"...How the hell did they find this thing?" you wonder aloud. "Oh well. JOHNNY CAAAAAAAAGE!"

You shout as you leap off, hurtling towards what should normally be certain death. Instead, you find yourself feeling the all-too-familiar effects of portal travel; hot and cold at the same time, your hair standing up, a strange tingling all throughout your body.

You fall and land on the ground in the middle of a wasteland. Yup. It's Outworld, alright.

Liu helps you to your feet.

You'll keep the radio handy for now, but perhaps it's not best to bother Sonya yet. And that dream of yours... You haven't managed to shake it from your mind. Best to keep that to yourself, though--she'd probably only find it really weird and creepy.

You follow Liu Kang through the wasteland into a more habitable region of Outworld. Villages can be seen in the distance.

"Does Outworld seem cleaner to you?" you ask.

"Its new Emperor has tamed this region quickly. From what I understand, he is currently working on forging alliances with other foreign powers across Outworld's many seas."

Oh yeah, you remember Montezuma. Kotal, was that his name? Montezuma will do. You didn't really get a chance to meet him, but he seemed like a pretty on-the-level kind of guy. Polite, at least.

After a while, you are led to a very nice-looking cottage at the bottom of a large mountain. Bo' Rai Cho is here, drinking. Nearby, Kung Lao spars with a young woman wearing a flowery purple outfit with wrappings on her hands. The more experienced shaolin warrior is not wearing his hat at the moment, but it lies nearby.

Bo' smiles upon seeing Liu Kang. "Liu! My old student, ahahah! What good fortune it is to see you! Come, come! Sit, drink, speak! And Mr. Cage, also an unexpected surprise! You would like a drink, this I know! Hahaha!"

You can't help but smile at the jovial old martial arts master as he throws an arm around you both, taking you across the bridge over his well-kept fish pond.

Nearby, Kung Lao puts the young woman down with a well-placed sweeping kick.

As you sit with the old master, you ask, "So, how have things been in Outworld."

"Quiet!" he laughs. "Since the death of Shao Kahn," he takes a moment to spit, "Outworld has been much more peaceful. It is said that the ruler of Outworld can change a great many things, and Kotal Kahn is not as oppressive as Shao Kahn was. Strong, yes, dedicated, yes, but not cruel. I would rather there be no Emperor, such as Earthrealm, but Outworld is too large to be left to war with itself. It needs a hand that can control it."

"I don't know how that dude holds anything in his hands," you say. "I mean, he cuts them up all the time. Aztecs."

Bo' chuckles and takes a drink. "Yes, but he is strong in blood magik. His rituals of self-scarification are strange, but he heals quickly."

He hands you a strong drink; it reminds you of your college days. You drink it and shake your head as it burns your throat. Liu Kang politely declines and explains your mission to him.

You watch Kung Lao spar more with the young woman. She's tenacious; always getting back up after being knocked down. Further up the road, a caravan of supplies is being escorted from one village to another.

Bo' does actually know of a portal that leads to Edenia. It is far in the mountains to the northwest, the Lei Chen Mountains. There is a cave there and within it is a portal that leads to Edenia. He himself has never used it he knows the way.

You shrug. "Well hell, why don't you come with us? Edenia could use some livening up."

Liu shakes his head but Bo' nods. "That sounds wonderful, but I will have to suspend my classes."

He stands up, walking over with his staff, as Liu slaps your shoulder. "What?" you ask him.

"Kung Lao! Li Mei! That is enough for today. I must put my classes on hold--I will be making a brief trip to Edenia to test their wines."

Kung Lao bows, as does the girl Li Mei, but she rises quickly. "Master! I have heard legends of the beauty of Edenia. I would very much like to see it for myself."

Bo' strokes his beard. "Hmmm. I think perhaps you have spent too much time away from your family, my pupil."

Liu Kang stands up. "I think we've got a bit too many coming along as it is."

Kung Lao shrugs. "I think it may do her some good, Master Bo'. Every student needs their horizons broadened by travel."

With two for her and two against her, all four sets of eyes drift to you for your opinion on the matter.

You look over at Liu. "I like her. She seems spunky! We could use some more spunkiness. I say let's bring her along."

She smiles and nearly jumps in place as she races off to gather her things. Bo' and Kung Lao go inside.

Liu sighs. You approach him. "What? What's wrong? Don't tell me you don't trust Bo' now either."

"It's not that," Liu insists. "I trust Master Bo' Rai Cho with my life. But this is my first visit to Kitana's palace in her new home, and he is not known for... his manners."

Suddenly, it all clicks. You elbow him in the ribs. "Liu, you dog, you! You may act like the high and mighty monk but you don't want to be embarrassed in front of Kitana, do you?"

"That's not--"

You pull your sunglasses down a bit and wink at him. "Hey, say no more. I got you buddy. Don't worry, I won't let you down, Goose."

"What are you even--"

Suddenly, Li Mei runs back up with a backpack of hastily-thrown-together things. The young woman smiles up at them as Liu Kang rolls his eyes. "Alright, young one. But be respectful. The edenian royalty must not be pestered."

"I'll be very respectful, Master Liu!" she says, bowing.

A few moments later, Kung Lao and Bo' Rai Cho emerge, ready to travel. Kung Lao has his hat and a few other things, and Bo' has a large gourd of Outworld rice wine.

Kung Lao and Liu Kang hang back as the shaolin champion explains to his fellow descendant of the Great Kung Lao the situation of Kitana's supposed "daughter", Shinkana.

As you make camp for the night in a large forest, Bo' Rai Cho explains that the mountain that conceals the cave to Edenia is nearby; he points it out along the horizon.

"Yes, the walled city of Lei Chen is not far from here as well!" he says. "Good people. But their leader is a stubborn old fool."

"So how do you know this portal works?" you ask him. "I mean, Edenia's been gone for a while, right?"

Bo' takes another drink. "Ah, but Kitana and Asgaarth had many allies who helped them in secret. I know my way around the realms, do not fret. This portal led to the land of Lost Edenia, but now will lead us to the proper restored realm."

As Liu and Lao scout nearby for any danger before they return to the camp, Li Mei scoots closer to you. "Thank you very much for allowing me to come along," she says with a smile.

"Hey, don't mention it kid," you say with a nod.

"I have heard many great things about you and the other Earthrealm warriors, Johnny Cage. But I do not understand what the stories mean when they say that you are the "star" of "moving pictures." How can pictures move?"

You cock an eyebrow and look at her. You'd almost forgotten that Outworld doesn't have movie theaters. "Um. Well... Do you have plays in your village?"

"Plays?"

"Yeah, you know, like... acting. Pretend. Theater!"

She eagerly nods. "We have a festival where we re-enact ancient battles."

"Sure, that's close enough. Anyway, these festivals, they always have a leader, right? Like, the one the story is about, the hero."

"Of course."

"Well, in my world, we have a..." How to explain technology to her? "We have this magic, right? And it allows us to create stories that move on the page. And I star in a lot of them as the lead actor."

"This magic sounds amazing," she says with wide eyes. Nearby, Bo' Rai Cho chuckles; he must know what movies are.

Let's leave the monks alone for a bit, let them catch up a little. Johnny wants to be Johnny, and what better way to do that than to boast in front of an impressionable youth. Let us regail the master and his pupil with tales of our movies, about how we always save the day, following it up with a sweet one-liner.

Plus, it might be good to learn more about Edenia. After the boasting, of course.

You decide to let the monks catch up a bit and regale the impressionable youth and the old drunken master with some of your tales. Bo' smiles as he listens and drinks, and Li Mei is positively enthralled by the stories.

You finish up one of them, and she's so caught up in it, she's actually disappointed when it is done. "But... what of the Ninja Mime? Does he ever rescue his love? Or does she die at the hands of the Circus Mafia? There is an ending, isn't there?"

Frankly, you're glad that you've got at least one fan for that movie.

"Well, there will be once the studio gets off its lazy ass and produces th--I mean, there will be, one day. Let me tell you another one. This story is called Son of Dragon Fist, and--"

There is a crackling noise in the forest then. You and Li Mei both turn your heads; Bo' Rai Cho is fast asleep and snoring loudly. But inbetween his snores, you hear it again; someone is out there, having stepped on a branch.

"Liu Kang? Or Kung Lao?" she whispers.

"Maybe..."

"Stay here with Master Bo'," you tell her, standing to walk into the forest. She tells you to be careful as you step out past the clearing and into the trees.

You look around, scanning the area with your keen eyes. You look down and find a branch on the ground--it's broken in half, like someone stepped on it.

There's some footprints in the mud... looking at them, you follow them and see that they lead to a tree. As you look up, you see nothing... but then, in the darkness of its branches, two blazing orange eyes gaze down at you.

You leap backwards as the monster leaps out, impaling the ground with thin arm-blades. He quickly looks up and snarls.

He looks tarkatan, unlike the last guy you fought who merely thought he was... but this one is... different. His mouth isn't as big. Sharp teeth, yes, orange eyes, check, but his head is much smoother and his ears aren't as large as Baraka's...

The tarkatan retracts his blades (they also look much more sleek than the normal, boney protrusions you're used to) and he leaps at you, drool dripping from his mouth. At least his attitude is common to his kind.

Your eyes go wide as he extends his blade directly into your neck. You immediately feel a sharp pain as your mouth wells up with blood. He retracts both blades immediately and you fall to the ground, choking on your own blood.

Suddenly, the monster is hit with a dragon fireball as Liu Kang and Kung Lao burst onto the scene, chasing him through the forest.

Li Mei runs up to you and holds your head as your vision swims.

This... this can't be it. It can't end this way. You've fought shokan... a dragon... world-ending threats... It can't end like this...

You're Johnny Cage... the movie star with an iron fist. The one and only... Johnny...

You turn and look up at the night sky. Slowly, the image bleeds away and everything goes dark. The stars, Li Mei's face, the trees, Outworld's moon, all fade into darkness and you feel so very, very cold. You lose all feeling in your arms, legs, you can't hear her voice.

Your films, your entire career, your adventures, all of them run before you as you start to lose everything that you are as your morality becomes horrifically apparent.

Sonya...

You never got to... say... goodbye...

You're Johnny Cage...

You always said you weren't afraid to die...

Post death stress. People are going through the motions right now, not really knowing how to deal with it. In a game where we don't get any bonuses and we die to a faceless mook after beating a dragon AND fighting Liu Kang to a draw, it can be kind of a let down when a single bad rolls ends things (well, not quite).

Think of it like the stages of acceptance. They're ironing out the anger part right now.

>>42325286

He's only a faceless mook because we don't know who he is yet. If the strange features and powers he exhibited weren't an indication of it, trust me, he's got something special going on.

So what's Damashi got planned for us this time

Is Johnny gonna stay dead? Will we wake up in Edenia just fine thanks to magic? Is Johnny a ghost?

Are pour chances to get with Sonya ruined forever?
>>
>>42325725
Multitude of things. Death is literally just an inconvenience in the world of MK. There are a couple of possibilities I could see happening.

1) We're not actually dead. Just really close to death. Like, -9 HP. Monk shit or Edenian magic brings us "back".

2) We are dead, and Raiden brings us back because we're stronk, but because Raiden is so obviously evil in this timeline, we come back as a shackled spirit or otherwise have some sort of Geas cast on us.

3) We are dead, but Johnny's new shadow powers do some weirdness.

4) We are dead, but Edenian revival magic.

5) We are dead and don't come back to life. We haunt Liu and give him A-class advice as his personal ghost wingman.
>>
>>42325783
>5) We are dead and don't come back to life. We haunt Liu and give him A-class advice as his personal ghost wingman.
I kinda approve of this one.
>>
>>42325783
(cont)
Adding on to 5, Liu can summon us as a ghost spirit thing, because we have shadow clone stuff. We can help him in battle as a spectral clone thing with all of our usual abilities, and provide snark in non-combat situations. I'm trying to think of what inspired that, but there's a game or anime that's literally just "there's a voice in your head that can manifest itself and help" that isn't called Beyond Two Souls.

You awaken with a start on a beach of grey sand. Black water slowly crashes against the bank, and the sky is bleak and cloudless.

Nearby, a black robed figure sits upon a rock. In his skeletal hands, a black scythe. His hood reveals nothing within; only a void of nothingness.

"Johnny Cage," he says to you in a surreal, faraway voice. "Your time has come."

"No," you say, facing him fully. "I... I need more time."

"That is not for you or I to decide. Such has been the fate of every mortal before you, and such will be the fate of every mortal after you."

You look at your hands, and feel your shoulder and neck. You're fine... So, this must not be your real body, then. The crushing weight of your now-vanished mortality nearly causes you to break down.

On the plus side, there's an afterlife, so that's good. Or bad; you're actually afraid you might be going to hell. But surely not, right? You're Johnny Cage! You're a good guy! You saved people!

"So... What comes next?" you manage to ask the figure.

The reaper turns to look at the black ocean. A single rowboat emerges from the grey fog hanging over the water and stops at the shore.

"I will guide you to the next life," the reaper says. "You may stay here, and wallow in this grey place, or you may throw yourself into the black waters and be forever lost, or you may come with me to the place of judgment. There, a higher power will decide your fate."

"So, I can wait here, right?"

"You may."

You find a rock and sit on it. "My friends will come through for me... I know they will."

Becoming a wraith (at least how it's portrayed in MKX) severely warps your character. I want to be Johnny, not Scorpion.

"So... What's in the black water, exactly?"

"Lost souls. The damned who refused to accept their end. Many leapt from the boat before it arrived at its destination. Others believed they could swim and escape. They ignored my warning that there is nothing beyond. But there are also those who would rather accept eternal nothingness rather than face the possibility of being sent to the fiery pits of the Netherrealm."

You look at the black water and shiver. "So... How long have you had this job?" you ask with a smile.

He is silent.

"Okay... Seen any of my films? You knew my name. Ever seen Ninja Mime?"

Again, silence.

"I guess you lost your funny bone." You inadvertently crack up at your own bad joke.

"I know humor," he says. "I have seen it as a coping method countless times before. Many people try to gamble with me. Or amuse me. Some challenge me to games. All in the hope that I can change their fate; I cannot."

You fold your arms and think. What would wait for you at the end of that boat ride? Heaven? Hell?

You find yourself starting to panic, and struggling to stay calm. Your friends will find a way to help you... right? Maybe if you just stay here, you'll be fine... But what if they never do? What if they can't? What if you'll never get a chance to see your loved ones again?

Well, you'd need loved ones, first. You've been a bachelor your entire life. A string of easy women, Hollywood floozies and one-night-stands has left you without a wife or children. No legacy beyond your films; no Cage blood left. Your family? You never even knew your father, and mom died years ago... No brothers, no sisters. On your own your entire life, so you struck out against fate. Swore that you were never going to be on the sidelines; you were going to be a star.

And you made it...

Was it all worth it, Johnny?

"Hey, Grim and Evil, what do you think about life?"

"I've never known it. My domain deals exclusively with what lies beyond it."

"I mean, the point of it all," you say. "You've talked to every person who's ever died ever, right?"

"Yes."

"So you must have one hell of a perspective on this whole thing by now."

"Death and life are two sides of the same coin. One is the end of the other. It is a balance; without life, there is no true death. Without death, there is no true life. Only existence. We all exist in different forms; you have passed from one existence to the next. It is an inevitability that many of your kind does not consider until they near it. Some spend their entire lives guarding against it, rather than living to the fullest extent. Some ignore it until they are forced to confront it. Which are you, Johnny Cage?"

"I always said that I wasn't afraid to die," you tell him. "I did all my own stunts, fought tougher opponents, did a lot of dangerous and stupid stuff... Because I'm Johnny Cage, you know? But then I go to a tournament, to prove that I'm the real deal, the best, not a fake or a phony... and I find something to fight for that isn't just myself. And I meet someone and I think to myself, 'Maybe this time will be different...' And then I bite the dust."

"Death will never work for you. It does not move its schedule to benefit you. When it comes for you, there is no stopping it."

You sigh. "I always said I wasn't afraid of it... But I never really thought about it. Never considered it a possibility. I mean... I'm Johnny Cage. All the money, sex, booze, fame... It was all just... part of who Johnny Cage was."

"Mortals often concern themselves with what satisfies them in the moment. Rarely do they consider what damns them in the end."

"Thanks," you deadpan. "I just... I just never thought I'd get taken out like that. Stabbed in the neck by an Outworld freak..."

You stomp your foot in the grey sand. "It's not damn fair! I should've taken that guy--what the hell was wrong with me?! One unlucky move, my mind was cluttered, I was a bit drunk--I don't know, but it wasn't supposed to end like this!"

You sit back against the rock and slide down. In your mind, you picture the dream you had recently. You and Sonya, and a little baby girl... beautiful, perfect, happy and healthy...

The reaper points at the boat, but says no more. He is a patient being; he will wait.

>>
>>42328797
Ah man now I really wanna know how that went.
Was he defiant? A pussy? Or just accepting and stoic?
>>
"So, how do ghosts work, and zombies? And souls and all that other stuff? How do people come back?"

"There are mortals who can bend and twist the stuff of souls for their own purposes. Such powers exist, except for those whose souls are destroyed completely by higher powers. There is life, there is death, and there are states between--undeath. Living, yet not living. Ghosts. Spectres. Wraiths. Revenants. Theses are all shades of souls given new form and new existence, but the souls are never different. Every being has a soul. What happens to the soul depends on who they were and who it ends up with. You died with nobody binding your soul to their will; that is why you are here. Some people die and become trapped in their home realm, usually due to their own flaws. They haunt the living, unable to move on unless helped."

"So, I can be brought back, right?"

"I offer no promises except the inevitability of death."

You look at the boat.

Maybe you should see where you're going to end up. Then again, maybe you should just wait here.

Well, you're not going to just sit here and wallow in pity. That's not what Johnny Cage would do.

"Heaven or hell, let's rock."

You climb onto the boat, as does the reaper, and it pushes off the shore. He is silent as he pushes you towards the grey fog.

You wish you had your phone right now. This would make for one hell of a selfie.

As you sit down in the boat, pushing through the fog, you can't help but wonder what will await you. The Elder Gods? Heaven? Something far worse?

"Do not despair," the reaper says as he pushes the boat along. "Every mortal must face their own mortality sooner or later."

"Yeah... I guess I'm just upset that I only left behind a bunch of films."

"You left memories," he says. "Many people's greatest fear is being forgotten. That for all their trying, they will eventually be lost to time. This is true for all things, but many mortals cry out against fate and do as much as they can to ensure their permanence in the annals of mortal history. I personally believe this is a sign of strength, even if they do not know it. It is good to struggle against a cruel fate, rather than bow down and accept it without trying to change it."

"I thought you said death was inevitable," you reply.

"It is. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't fight against it. Death may not be permanent, but for many, death lasts longer than life. You should therefore try to live as long as possible, to make a mark as great as you can, to leave a great legacy behind... Think about this when you return."

"Return? Wait, what do you mean?"

"Since you asked earlier... I enjoyed Dragon Fist II the most."

Suddenly you wake up, the real you, screaming in pain. Your neck is searing hot; your shoulder is, too. You are bound to some kind of table and you can hear someone chanting.

Suddenly, it's all over. You fall unconscious and when you wake back up, you're in a comfortable bed in some kind of gorgeous bedchamber. You see the sun streaming in through the window.

You feel your neck. It's scarred, but healed. Your clothes lie on a marble table nearby. "What? Who? How?"

You sit up in the bed and look outside, seeing an unfamiliar but beautiful landscape of grand palaces, ornate buildings and lush, green hills and fields.

This... this must be Edenia. It has to be!

You curl your hand into a fist and punch yourself in the face; pain is all too real. You stretch your muscles and smile and laugh.

You're back, baby!

You rush over to your clothes and throw them on just as the doors open and a woman strides in, wearing clothes that leave very little to the imagination. She must be edenian, alright. She looks at you, very surprised. "You're awake," she says. "You must be very confused. Please, sit."

"I'll stand, thanks," you say, trying not to stare at her chest.

"I am one of Queen Sindel's handmaidens," she explains. "You were brought to us very badly wounded."

"You mean dead, right?"

She is a bit taken aback. "Yes, well... The queen assigned me to watch over you. Your friends are currently in the palace, enjoying a small afternoon feast. Would you like to join them?"

I figured he's somewhat dedicated. This seems to take place after MK3, or maybe 4, and it's around that time in the alternate timeline where they had a kid.

But yeah, I imagine the grand meeting will be them glad he alive, Johnny makes a joke, and then immediately whispers to Liu asking him if he's bumped boots with Kitana yet.
>>
"Yes, please," you nod. "I'd like to see my friends as soon as possible."

She nods and leads you down a grand hallway; the beauty of this place is rivaled only by the women within it, it seems. The palace is immaculately decorated and is a wonder to behold; paintings, statues of ancient figures, even music reaches your ears played by masterful harpists. She leads you to a grand dining hall where your friends sit with the Edenian royalty.

The room goes silent as you walk in, as though they had seen a ghost. Hell, maybe they have.

"Johnny!" Liu says, rising from his seat. "Are you well?"

"I don't know, you tell me," you say, looking around the table. There's your friends, Kitana, Jade, Tanya, Tanya's family, Rain, Queen Sindel, and--Suddenly, you see Ermac sitting next to Kitana! "Look out, it's that freaky red dude!" You prepare to attack when suddenly several knights and guards point their axes at you.

"Johnny, no," Liu says. "Ermac is being controlled by the soul of King Jerrod, Kitana's father. Shao Kahn's will no longer enforces the souls within the body."

You slowly lower your hands. Ermac, Jerrod, rises. "It is alright. This form did much damage, and harmed many of your friends, Johnny Cage. But I assure you that so long as I remain in control, Ermac will never return."

He crosses the room to shake your hand.

Warily, you reach up and shake his hand. "Nice to meet you, Jerrod... I've heard good things."

"Any ally of my daughter's is welcome in my court," he says. You can't help but still be weirded out... this is the same telekinetic warrior who blew up Kenshi's eyes.

Jerrod goes to sit next to his wife and daughter. "Please, join us Mr. Cage."

Bo' laughs and holds up a drink. "Yes! Their wine is fantastic. Very sweet!"

You sit down and a plate of food is placed before you; some kind of cooked bird. It looks delicious.

"I hope your wake-up wasn't too traumatic," Sindel says as you eat.

"No more than a usual Friday morning," you joke. "But seriously, thank you. I don't even know how I am alive."

Kitana speaks. "It pays to have kept Quan Chi alive and in chains in our palace dungeon."

"That's how?" you ask. "Are we sure he, uh, did it right? That I'm all me up here?" you point at your head.

Sindel nods. "There was no treachery. I myself oversaw the resurrection. He may be blind, but he can cast spells, and he knows that I will kill him if he tries to go against my will."

Given that Quan Chi brought her back to life, you're not sure how good you feel about that, either...

Nearby, Tanya's father speaks with Jerrod; something political. Jade whispers into Kitana's ear, and you can't help but catch Rain eying Liu Kang suspiciously. Sindel eats in silence, and you can't tell where she is looking due to her unsettling white eyes.

Li Mei sits with Kung Lao; they both eat in relative silence. Bo' Rai Cho is certainly enjoying himself, however; he is talking to one of Tanya's sisters (who seems rather annoyed) and laughing as he eats and drinks.

True but he'd know about the deal where Kaito kissed her and she helped him and Liu wreck up Shao. He'd also know everybody was pretty chill with her after the fact.
So with everyone else here he might think it's bullshit she isn't. Even without the whole Jerrod deal in the epilogue. Perhaps especially, it looks like the closest thing she had to family washed their hands of her, after she aided them however indirectly. Kaito isn't here, but he'd take them to the cleaners over it.

Mortal kombat: A Quest For Better Gods
>>
>>42337621
If Johnny ever meets the Elder Gods, we need to ask them what their favorite movie was.

Also, anyone hear about the theory that Liu Kang is a nascent Elder God?
>>
>>42337820
I'm more fond of the theory that the elder/gods manipulate a handful of people to be heroes in every realm just in case the need should ever arise.
>>
>>42337820
>>42338343
I'm the guy who pointed out a bunch of weird/suspicious inconsistencies about Liu's lack of origin story and how his powers are all dragon/Elder God-related in one of the earlier quest threads, but I didn't really have any logical conclusions to draw from it. It just seems like a story they never finished and never will because they'll probably never portray Liu as anything other than a tragic villain again because everyone thinks classic Liu was boring and not edgy and grimdark enough.
>>
>>42338589
I liked classic liu kang
Not searious kang but fun kang wich he is in this quest
>>
>>42338674
The thing that always bugged me is people don't even know Liu's story, they just think of him as "the guy who won 4 times in a row and doesn't do anything else"

Dude had a really interesting arc in the original trilogy. Started out as this pacifist guy with a nonlethal finishing move, spares Shang and Shang comes back and kills his whole temple so now he's like doing the whole crisis of morality thing cuz if he wants to give up his beliefs for revenge, he can turn into a dragon and eat people...plus there's the "who wants to live forever" stuff from being the tournament champ and meeting Kitana...

And I always got the impression that the whole point of Kai was so Liu could retire and become a mentor character, but they completely dropped the ball on that one by not making Kai interesting enough to catch on with people...

You signal to Liu and get him to excuse himself while the handmaidens prepare the next course. Damn, even the chefs in this world are smoking hot babes. Focus, Johnny, focus!

You pull Liu aside between two large pillars, out of earshot. "So? What did you do?"

"We brought you here after you were killed," he says. "Tell me, what did you see?"

You shake your head. "No! About the princess, Liu!"

"I have yet to tell her about her supposed daughter that attacked us."

"No! I'm talking about hitting on her, you shaolin knucklehead!"

He gets a serious look in his eyes. "We are meant to be celibate."

"Was the Great Kung Lao celibate? I bet he was rolling in pu--"

Suddenly, Kung Lao taps on your shoulder. "You were saying, sandpaper man?"

"All the more proof I need. You're both descendants of a guy who put aside his monkly values to get him some. And he's looked on as a hero!"

"Because of his noble example, his sacrifice," Liu points out.

"Details. The point is, I know you like her. I know she likes you. YOU know it too. So let's make some magic happen, Liu!"

He looks away. "I... The princess would never--"

You wave your hand and dismiss the notion. "I'll worry about that. I'll handle it all on my end."

Jerrod concludes the meal and makes a toast to friendship between the realms; for Earthrealm and the newly-free people of Outworld. Everyone toasts and drinks as the handmaidens carry away the platters of food.

You quickly gather up Kung Lao and Li Mei and intercept the royal family. "Good King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, I was wondering if you would hear a request of mine."

Sindel looks at Erma--Jerrod, who nods. "Please, speak your mind."

"What with the... recent blessed recreation of your beautiful realm," you throw in as much flowery language as possible, "I was wondering if you might have any traditional sports or contests that we could partake in, both to... encourage inter-realm relationships and let us all grow a bit... closer together."

Nailed it.

Jerrod seems on board. "Yes, I can remember ages ago... great contests of martial might. Let us have one this evening!"

Kung Lao bows. "I would be very honored to compete, as would the newest pupil of Master Bo', Li Mei."

She eagerly bows. "Thank you!"

Jerrod nods. "It is settled, then! We shall have it as sundown in the palace gardens."

The group begins to disperse. Kung Lao throws you a wink and approaches Jade, asking her about her time with the amazons. You quickly then slide in and intercept Rain.

"Sup, Purple Rain?"

Rain looks away, considering your words. As he does, you notice Liu Kang and Kitana leaving the room. Yes!

You throw an arm around Rain's shoulder, which makes him uncomfortable and annoyed. "I bet you could mop the floor with us. And then use your water to literally mop up the blood. It's a win-win!"

Rain takes your arm off of him and looks around. He must notice Kitana's absence, but now he's too preoccupied with the tournament in his mind. "Yes... I shall win it. After all... the competition will not be too steep."

He turns and walks away in a different direction. After he's gone, you stick out your tongue and wash it clean of those filthy words you had to use to compliment him with, that stuffy purple-wearing prick of a prince.

>B: Wander Around

You decide to take a stroll through the gardens. The beauty of this place puts almost anything outside of the oldest and grandest places in Earthrealm to shame--the architecture, the waterfalls, the beautiful columns and rows of flowers in the gardens, it's all just so much to take in all at once.

Across the way, a group of edenian women sit in the gardens amongst the water fountains, fanning themselves with large, artistic fans. They look at you as you walk by and giggle.

Easy, Johnny, they're probably all like Kitana... thousands of years old. And they don't look a day over five-hundred.

As you wander, you look up and see a large balcony, and a familiar person is standing on it, looking out in the distance, lost in thought.

Mileena.

The hybrid clone is wearing her mask and is dressed in as much regal finery as Kitana was at dinner. You remember that you there when she turned against Shao Kahn to fight alongside Kaito and the other defenders, before she was impaled...

She stares into the distance. You can only imagine what she's thinking. Just then, someone walks up behind her and places a hand on her shoulder. It's that bronze-skinned edenian, Tanya. You can't make out what they are saying to each other.

Curious, you sneak closer, using your years of avoiding paparazzi to get in close without being seen. Rolling from bush to bush, leaping between conveniently-placed chest-high walls, you make it across the courtyard. You inch along the wall beneath the balcony and eventually you hear them.

"You will not join us tonight?" Tanya asks.

Mileena does not immediately respond. "You should," Tanya says. "Everyone knows how great of a fighter you are, Mileena. And you haven't fought since--"

"I know," she interrupts the yellow-garbed edenian. "It will stir bad memories. When I fight, I lose control. It's the only way I know how. I don't want Jerrod or Sindel to see me like that."

"You don't need to worry about what they think. I know that it is difficult... being in your position. I know that Kitana has yet to show you love and Sindel looks upon you uncomfortably. But you will earn their trust."

You very, very carefully stick your head out to look up and you see Tanya embrace Mileena from behind. "Thank you," the clone says, touching Tanya's arm, "for your words. You always know what to say. Jerrod... my father..." she says the word as though she is still getting used to it, "he believes I will adjust. But Kitana..."

"I know," Tanya shushes her. "If you will not join us, will you come to watch? If only for to see me compete?" she asks with a smile.

Mileena is silent, but after a moment, she nods. Tanya kisses her bare shoulder and lets go of her to walk away. "I will see you there, my princess."

You hide your head as she walks by. That's interesting... What's her angle, you wonder?

Doesn't seem something that Johnny would be interested in.
Then again I know little of him.

Is there any way that Johnny would have a conversation with Mileena, that wouldn't end with her furiously chasing him around?
>>
>>42347275
Not really, but him talking to her after hearing that is a very Johnny thing to do. He's a nice guy

After waiting for a good amount of time to make it not seem suspicious, you circle around and approach Mileena from the courtyard below in a manner as to make it seem like you just got there. "Princess," you call up to her, getting her attention.

"Johnny Cage..."

"I couldn't help but notice that you didn't join us for dinner," you tell her.

Her orange eyes narrow. "When I eat, it is not a pretty sight. I take my meals in private."

Her voice isn't exactly scornful, but it isn't friendly.

"I was wondering if you'd like to talk."

She leans over the balcony railing. "About?" Her voice is teems with impatience.

We should compliment her too so she might share more things with us

Kaito might be a trigger

I know I am an hour late to the vote, but what about asking her why she switched sides, and if it comes up mention our visit to the Jinsei. Maybe that would offer her some comfort.
or we do that in the next round?

"I was wondering how you're adjusting to your life here in Edenia," you tell her. "It's quite different from Outworld."

You think her first reaction is to call you a clever observer for something so obvious, but she restrains herself and regains composure. "I am... well. It has not been easy."

You place your hands into your pockets. "Would you mind if I asked how you were feeling? I noticed you staring off into the distance. I don't mean to intrude, or anything."

She averts her eyes slightly. "I was thinking... about our battle with Shao Kahn."

Good, good, follow this. "So, I was just wondering, feel free to not answer this if it's a touchy subject, why did you switch sides? I'm glad you did, don't get me wrong."

She leans over the balcony. "I suppose that a very convincing argument was made by someone who isn't here anymore."

Touchy subject. "I visited him," you tell her. "He's in Earthrealm's jinsei. Asleep... Maybe never going to wake up. But he was a good guy, you know? You can tell from the way he treated you."

She is silent. You throw in a, "I'm sure that, wherever he is... he misses you, too."

You turn and walk away. "Johnny Cage," she calls out. "...Thank you."

You nod at her and throw in a thumbs up before walking off.

Johnny Cage: Font of Wisdom

Excepting Liu, of course. Unless we happen to find him moping around by his lonesome. That might be a problem.

More specifically I'm talking about Kung Lao. Li Mei and Bo' as well, if you count them.

Johnny is a genuinely good guy.

>C) Try and track down the shaolin
Might as well see how the others did with their tings

Probably.

Sorry, there was a matter I had to deal with.

Thanks for archiving. I'll make a new thread in just a little bit--there's a problem on post. One of my soldiers is drunk and got into some trouble.
