When planet Coral deteriorated, the Pioneer project was put in place to evacuate select families to find a new world. Ragol, the most suitable system found, is a yellow star with an asteroid belt, a habitable planet (Ragol), an ice planet, and a dark matter belt. Pioneer I, the first ship of its kind, was sent to Ragol to begin colonizing.

Pioneer II arrived seven years later. It opened up channels to communicate with Pioneer I, but was interrupted by an explosion from just outside the Central Dome. The explosion shook the entire planet. Strangely enough, infrastructure damage seemed to be nonexistent.

You are Pheonixia, a female newman and a Hunter's Guild certified Force. You have gained clout with Principal Tyrell after a lucky acquisition of “Red Ring” Rico Tyrell's log. Tyrell, the autocratic leader of Pioneer 2 and Rico's father, has put you on an off-the-books search and rescue mission for Rico. You have fought your way through the forests of Ragol, slayed a dragon, reclaimed Pioneer I's Central Dome.

With a shard of the ancient sword, Elsydeon, you discovered the long dead Palman civilization. Being cut with the shard, you are given visions of heroes of the past. The ghosts of Elsydeon warn of Mother Brain, a climate control AI responsible for turning the barren Motavia (Ragol) into a green planet with hostile life.

Boarding an ancient satellite revealed two functioning androids. They warn that the“Profound Darkness” is due for another millenial disaster, and you have already discovered its "Dark Energy Wave" emitting from the Central Dome.

Your investigation bring you to Dezolis, an ice planet with remnants of the ancient civilization. You seek an immortal prophet, Lutz, with the help of one of his acolytes, Layla.

“Well, before we get any farther, let me introduce myself. I'm Pheonixia. Who are you two?”

The woman starts. “I'm Alys Brangwin. I was a hunter for the Motavian Hunter's Guild.”

“And I'm Raja. Priest and story teller. Very pleased to meet you, little girl.” Up close, the Dezolian looks ancient. His entire face is covered in wrinkles.

“When do you two come from?”

Alys starts. “I was killed by the black energy wave, just at the start of the fight against dark force in 2284. The old man here managed to live a few years after the conflict.”

“'Til the ripe old age of 90!”

“And it shows.” Alys smirks, Raja pouts. “But back on point, we've been separated from the others for probably a millennium now, which must be why you picked us up. You have to piece the Elsydeon back together.”

“Well, actually, I wasn't exactly planning on this trip. I think a shard might have found its way into my backside.”

Alys pats your back. “Well, we all take a few hits for the greater good. Where did you find us?”

“Somewhere on Dezolis. I'm guess the ice worm had it.”

Raja perks up. “Ah, good! Then you need to go see R... Lutz.”

“Pardon me?”

“You're excused. Lutz is an old wizard that runs a church east of Gumbious Temple. He'll be able to help you. You should get moving. Go! Go!”

You wake up, still trying to converse with the two ghosts. “But wait! What about the Elsydeon?”

Ash, Nela, and Layla look over you concerned.

The Esper whispers to Ash, “She keeps bringing up the Elsydeon. What is it?”

Ash, “We're still a bit fuzzy on the details, ourselves.”

You find yourself on a cot, bandaged and covered in furs for warmth in an inn somewhere. Likely Jut.
>>
You sit up a bit too quickly, straining your bandages and causing you a bit of pain.

“Ow.”

Layla leans over you. “Careful, that worm left its mark on you.”

“What happened to it?”

“Oh my God, are you kidding?” Nela butts in, “You were a total badass, don't you remember? You were pulling all sorts of levers and stuff and plowed right into it with all those napalm jets blazing and everything! You totally looked like that action hero! The worm thing was basically melted into chunks when you were through with it!”

A short wave of panic comes over you. “Did you guys take a bit of metal out of my back? Where is it?”

“Yeah, just now. The local doctor was walking away with it, probably going to throw it out somewhere.” Ash motions to the Dezolian with a doctors bag and a handful of bloody rags. Exiting the inn.

“Shit!”

You sprint out the door and nearly tackle the old man. “The piece of metal you removed from me, it's very important that I have it!”

The old man chuckles, “What, this bit of shrapnel? I didn't think warriors such as yourselves got so sentimental.”

You gratefully take it from him with a sigh of relief.

“Feel better young lady. You really should be lying down, though. Chew on some snow willow bark to help with the pain.” The old man continues on through town.

You remember the pain of your wounds and the cold, and the fact that you are in your undergarments. You hurry back inside to bury yourself in furs in your cot.

Ash is blushing a bit. “I guess that piece of shrapnel was a bit of the Elsydeon, huh? Sorry I didn't think about it. I'm still a bit worried about those things knocking you out every time we find one.”

“It's fine, Ash. We just need to keep track of them. We've got two right now, and I guess anotherone that ArcoWynn is holding on to.”

Nela gives a quizzical look. “How many should there be?”

“I'm...not sure...” You play with the shard in your hands. It still has some of your blood on it. “Let's just focus on the next task at hand. We need to...”

> A. Head to Reshel to take care of the zombie problem.

> B. Get to Esper Mansion as soon as possible to talk to Lutz.

> C. Decide after letting ArcoWynn absorb this shard.

I really wish we took the time to study these shards in a proper lab. Even if we can't synthesize it, we could maybe have something to scan for on short-range radars, or give someway for the others to recognize them.

You guys are about 0.5 AU away from the nearest functional lab. I'll be sure to make the option available once your business on Dezolis is done.

“...get to Esper Mansion as soon as possible. Getting Lutz's help is our first priority.”

Layla frowns.

“We can head to Reshel after we're done there.”

“Very well. We should stock up before leaving. The ice digger needs some repairs, but we should be able to make the trip with some provisions and conservative driving.” Layla gets up to leave. “I'll go do some shopping”

Maiyawyn gets up. “I suppose Ash and I will see how many repairs we can perform before tomorrow. Come on, Romeo.”

Ash grumbles, “Do you really need to keep calling me that?”

Nela gives you a hug, “I guess that just leaves us to hang out while you get better!”

Hell no.

>Talk to whoever are the natives of this planet and ask about dark energy, and that it might be linked to the zombies so Lutz is the expert here.

>>42338483

I'm having trouble parsing that.

wait, lemme check the last thread to see if my facts are straight, first.

>>

okay, so the zombies have something to do with the dark energy wave.

The New Voices Talking to Me in a Coma said that Lutz should know a thing or two about the dark energy, or maybe a way to counter it. Ergo, a possible way to fix the zombie problem without killing them.
>>
>>42338713

So are you going to go interview the general public about black energy and dark magic, because if so, I think you should go over the cliff's notes of session #14, which also took place in Jut.
>>
>>42338841
no, I meant tell Layla, because I couldn't be assed to remember names.

The thought of conversing with Nela alone for an entire day allows you to summon the strength needed to get dressed and out the door.

“I'm going to go help Layla with the shopping. Maybe you should go check on Maiya and Ash before they start fighting each other.”

You hardly give Nela a chance to respond as you head out the door.

Layla is picking up some provisions at a stall off the main street. “Ah, Pheonixia, shouldn't you be resting?”

“You can just call me Pheonie like the rest. I feel much better now.”

She hands you a stick of bark. “I assume you needed this for the back pain, but I imagine it will do just as well with the headache you no doubt got from Nela's bedside manner.”

You both share a laugh. You bite into the bark. It has the consistency of jerky, but melts in your mouth like snow. The taste is not dissimilar to cinnamon. You feel a buzz. “Wow, this stuff is pretty strong.”

“Next best thing to ground laerma nut for infections,” Layla smiles at you, “but without the stomach ache.”

“Thanks.” You take another bite. “I actually wanted to ask about the dark energy wave and the uh...zombie problem.”

“The Prophet's input will no doubt be invaluable. I just feel bad not coming to their aid beforehand.”

“Do you think they can be changed back somehow?”

Layla frowns as she changes currency with the stall keeper. You both turn to walk further into the market. “They are already lost. The beings coming from that town corpses, animated by a dark force.”

“I see... How exactly can we fight dark energy?”

“Espers are trained in holy magics that can counter small scale abominations of dark energy, but to truly destroy it, you need a blessed weapon. Esper lore speaks of laconium weapons that the prophet himself gave to warriors three thousand years ago. They have since been lost to time.”

“So to actually do anything useful, we'll need a special weapon. We have to reforge the Elsydeon.”

Layla glances back at you. “If indeed the Elsydeon is a blessed weapon. To be honest, I would not be able to identify Laconium if I found it. Your shards may very well be part of a blessed sword, but they do us little good on their own.”

She has a point. Before you can continue your questions, a mob of panicked Dezolians descend upon you.

“The witch is back!”

“She brought the cursed ones upon us!”

“We must kill her before her creations kill us!”

“They're here!”

The mob continues to run away from the east side of town, where at least a few dozen zombies are shambling toward the stalls.

“What in the great queen's name?” Layla drops her groceries and reaches into her cloak for a weapon.

> A. Sit this one out, you're still injured.

> B. Risk making your wounds worse by fighting. [STR-Easy]

We actually kind of need those.

Although can't Arco and Wynn do most of the calling?
>>

They can.
>>
>>42339961
Okay, briskly walk with the groceries while calling them through our MAGS. Leave one of them with Layla so we can leave a chain for them to follow.

incidentally, I need to go soon.

“Arco, stay with Layla and help.”

Arco gives a beep and flies to her side.

“Wynn, call the others.”

You see a dialing screen pop up for the four way call. You grab the groceries and head back to the inn, but you can't maintain a quick pace.

Nela picks up first. “Hey, Pheonie. What's going on?”

Ash comes on shortly after. “Mayia is trying to weld a plate. What's up?”

“Layla is fighting a horde of zombies in the market and I'm not in fighting shape right now. She needs help.”

Ash and Nela both give a quick “got it” before hanging up. Wynn shows you footage of the fight from Arco's perspective.

It looks like Layla is getting quickly overwhelmed. She can't fight them off fast enough to keep from being surrounded. Layla gets knocked to the ground as the zombies loom over her. The screen flashes a whole spectrum of colors before cutting out.

Just at that moment, you are grabbed from behind.
