You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You’re standing around in the ruins of an old elementary school, listening to a woman with an urban fantasy novel name prattle on about how she – she and her ‘friends’ – are going to save the Scar from certain death. You weren’t aware that certain death was on the table, but apparently, that’s how things are. At least according to her.

Her lack of a scent makes her every movement seem almost ethereal. You can’t shake the impression that her words are spilling out of a blank spot, a hole in the blanket of night. It makes you almost painfully aware of how you’ve come to rely on your heightened senses – you can see her, you can even feel the percussion of her every slight shift rolling through the earth, but without a scent attached to her your brain seems loathe to admit that she’s real.

“…The group I represent is highly interested in this community. We have already taken steps to divert the public’s attention for as long as possible.” You listen closely to the soft thrumming of her heart. She’s not lying – not as far as you can tell. “Response by the city, however, is inevitable. You must know this.”

Yeah, you pretty much know that. It will happen eventually.

“You will have to defend yourselves eventually.”

She smiles at you. You feel your heart quicken.

She’s mentioned a larger organization twice now. You’re sort of curious about that – for good reason, you’d say. You don’t like dealing with Moon Knight, but you know its Moon Knight on the other end of your moon phone. You’ve got no idea who this person is.

“These guys you work for, who are they?”

She pierces deep with those bright yellow eyes of hers. You suddenly feel as though under an immense, indeterminate scrutiny, and you can’t help but deflate slightly. She turns her gaze away from you without answering. There’s something vaguely knowing in the curl of her smile.

“How can you help with that?” Says Jono, his voice reverberating through you. His stance is visibly guarded, but you can tell he’s at least a little intrigued. You can’t help but feel that there’s something desperate and forlorn in the underpinnings of his whole demeanor. “With defending us, I mean?”

The woman takes her time with her answer.

“We have already introduced humanitarian aid.” The guys earlier. The charity guess. “But we can offer more than that. We can arm you. If necessary, we can teach you to defend yourselves from the humans.”

That sounds lovely. Also insincere as hell, and possibly very dangerous. And you haven’t heard mention of a price tag yet.

“But it’s not free, right?” Nothing is free. Ever. “What do you and your friends want in return?”

She regards you again with the same vaguely amused stare.

“You know…” She begins, chuckling quietly. It’s as artificial as can be. “…When Julian described you to me, I just knew we’d get along.”

…What’s that supposed to mean?

“What I want is a world where mutantkind is free to chart its own destiny.” Not a quaver. Not a tinge of deceit there. “We require no payment, save the knowledge that you and your friends are no longer easy prey for the humans.”

You’ve never thought of yourself as easy prey. If only because you’re a hard man to find. Something about her implication gnaws at a deep-down part of you that takes pride in your nature.

>>42356790
Muties are already targets, whether organized or alone. Having people organized and trained in self defense is something we are already doing but with less resources and centralized organization

Basically, fuck sitting back and thinking of England while flatscans round mutants in camps, target them for experiments and use them to cultivate drugs. That shit isn't okay, and passively sucking our thumbs while members of community get targeted once we break off is stupid

This is a bad idea, nothing is going to bring sentinels down on this place faster than militant mutants. Humanitarian aid is good, but weapons will only bring death.
>>
>>42357051
>[ ] Concede that you will need some kind of help.
But not militant.
>>
>>42357082
They are targets but not organized against.

Right now we are in the situation of:
Too many of us to deal all at once so they do not want to so long as we keep bloody quiet.

Start attacking humans or arming folk and youve got an escalation from left alone if persecuted to actively hunted.

Protect ourselves? sure, but very dubious how they are going to go about it compared to our stance.

As is though.

Mystique is a master infiltrator, assassin and general massive bitch.

Even with moral high ground we would need definitive proof she is bad juju to win in a bitch fest, which is what she would turn this into. That would split this little alliance into component groups, who are easier to manipulate, soon as you get one group going full gun totting we-are-going-to-war then the rest have to follow or get caught in the crossfire.

You don’t like any of this. You’re surprised anyone is even giving her the time of day.

“This is stupid.” You say, leaving tact at the door.

“…Excuse me?”

“This is stupid.” You repeat. “Right now, the only people on our side are there because we can’t help being dangerous. If we start tooling up, we lose that.”

Julian raises his voice, butting in. “It’s better than doing nothing. What if they come for us tomorrow? What if they raise the red tape on the Sentinels and let them in to deal with us?”

“If they come for us tomorrow…” You reply, your voice like slate. “…How the hell will a bunch of guns help us? Who here even knows how to shoot a gun right?”

There is a long silence. Laura coughs, but very pointedly declines to raise her voice. Eventually, Hisako speaks up, addressing the Darkholme woman.

“I think you should leave.” She says, her voice low. “If you want to give us food, or even help us with our powers, that’s great. But we don’t need guns.”

The woman glances in Jono’s direction, as though expecting him to pitch in on her side, but he remains silent. She titters quietly.

“Understood.” Turning away, she begins to pick her way down the side of the rubble strewn over one end of the school, her silhouette steadily diminishing into the dark. “I will discuss this with the others.”

You wonder how that’ll go. Badly, you’re thinking.

An awkward silence hangs in the air as she fades away into the night, the click of her heels cutting off abruptly. You can’t really tell what the others are thinking – Hisako looks relieved, you think, and Julian has a big, disappointed frown perched along his brow, but everyone’s being quiet. And you can never really tell what Jono’s thinking.

He’s weird.

Save Typhon for another meeting. Mentioning the super dangerous oni guy who can turn you inside out after turning down fucking weapons(even if dubious weapons with a Sentinel behind them) would be disastrous.
>>
>>42357852
Agreed. He would not have brought her here if he did not feel she could help, and we need to respect that and let him know we do.
>>
>>42357805
You don't need an architect, you need to be able to fashion support beams and the senses to tell you when you need more. An internet connection will tell the amount of draw needed to allow X number of people to breathe, and some math will give you the power as well.

We can probably recruit some local talent. Problem is that it needs to widstand mutant meltdowns, and quake powers.

Without some sort of earth manipulator( or good builder/power thief that can get powers of builder) on our side cave ins and stuff is likely. Or one of those super robot builder guys.

There is probably someone who can do this.

Considering we are in a major shipping city, we can go to the dock yards and steal entire flat bits of metal from the shipping crates and just coat the tunnels in metal were we need to. Reinforcement materials are very plentiful if you don't mind having to dodge bullets to get them.
>>
>>42357985
>>42358032
Not to mention the old railway lines they seem to have not ripped up and taken. Surprised their still there, the metal would be worth a pretty penny at the scrapyard.
>>
>>42358032
Dodging bullets is one thing, but we can't afford to bring even more heat on us right now, with the Negative Man and all.

Also we should consider moving into hole in reality, or another dimension, time or something.

>>42358015
We should ask him. I am pretty sure he can levitate and shape earth, but dunno the extent of it.

>>42358032
Good idea, but we have electric frekout guys. metal does not play well with them. No standing in metal crate next to Noriko, or whoever else.

Still good idea, for non electric mutant quarters.

>>42358080
Nobody gives a shit about ship graveyards, exempt some controbandists.
>>
>>42358032
An entire shipping crate would be good, while we're at it. Tilt it on its long end and remove the top and bottom, and you have an effective shaft support. We'd need a truck to move it, or at least some strong people.

Sounds like we should bring it up. Even without magic food growing powers, starting a farm could help cut down on Corsairs stealing and organize ourselves in a non threatening way
>>
You know we could just make some underground bunkers below the metro system or somewhere out of the way like that, to hide from sentinels. Dig in bunch of containers. Put up some guards. Would cut down on non combatant causalities.
>>
Someone has to break the silence eventually.

“Where’d she come from, Julian?” You say, still sniffing slightly, testing the air for any hint of something different – anything you could use to make the woman’s presence seem more tangible. “She sounded nuts.”

Julian scowls at you.

“She showed up at our place.” He says, eventually. “She knew stuff. She said the city were planning to turf us out soon – it’s only this red sky stuff with the Avengers that’s kept us safe. We should’ve”–

“Should’ve what?” Jono’s voice crackles like nascent thunder. “Let her in, so we could get geared up for some kinda mutant revolution? You’re not even one of us. You get to go back to your nice, warm, cosy little flat when this meeting is over. We don’t. You have no fucking clue what we need, mate.”

“…You want to watch that tongue.” Says Julian, a faint green glow entering his eyes.

“You want a piece of this, Keller?” Jono’s voice is pure thunder now, blooming like a gas giant along the curve of your skull. He reaches up to the mess of scarves wrapped around his mouth, edging it down just very slightly. Something not quite fire and not quite lightning crackles though the air over his head. “Because, believe me, I am in the right bloody mood to”–

This is getting pretty out of hand.

“Oh, yeah? You’re in the mood? Well that makes”–

Urgh. You glance at Hisako, sharing a brief, synchronized moment of despondent sympathy for one another.

–“push me, Keller, you won’t like what happens when”–

These people are giving you a headache. They’re like children. Lost and… directionless. Clingy. You remember another young mutant, very much like that, very much lost and alone and without an inkling of sense. You remember him falling, falling, falling through time and space, grasping desperately for the first light to shine her way. His way, his – HisS way, way, way –

“…That’s enough, guys…”

–“on then, you little wank stain! I’ll”–

“…Guys, you’re… that’s…” Your head hurts.

The stupidity of this throbs like a welt upon the back of your skull. Growing. Burning.

–“do it, Jono! Just fucking”–

You feel the fire enter your voice.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

You are Laura Kinney, clone and mutant vagrant.

You step back, shielding your face with your arms, as your boyfriend ignites in front of you. For a moment, you almost panic, but it immediately comes to you that there’s no heat – just a palpable sense of pressure radiating off him in waves. A plume of ghostly blue flame whirls around him, bathing the old schoolyard in shifting, auroric light, twisting about his head and sparking across his slender horns. His eyes shine light stars and when he opens his mouth the sound is -

ENOUGH.

Your heart clenches and you hear Kevin make a choked, gristly yelp beside you. His nose is bleeding.

So is yours.

As quickly as it appeared, the fire recedes, shriveling back under JJ’s skin. The light fades from his eyes and...

“Right, so…”

…This is always awkward.

You think. You think hard about what to say.

“…I called you guys here because we have a real problem.” Not some vague promise of eventual eviction. Something tangible. “There’s… there’s this guy skulking around this place, hurting…” It dawns on you, suddenly, that you don’t actually know what Typhon is doing. You just assume what he’s doing is bad “…hurting people. He’s delusional and incredibly dangerous and he seems to be gathering some kind of following.”

You kind of want to say a cult.

“…Does this guy…” Hisako pauses, wiping something from her mouth. Is that blood? “Does this guy have a name?”

Joseph.

“He calls himself Typhon.”

Everyone’s quiet. Everyone’s really quiet.

They’re watching you like you’re about to explode or something.

“Alright.” Says Jono, breaking a long silence. “What’s he want?”

“…I dunno.” You really don’t.

“What can we do about him, then?”

Come to think of it, you don’t know. You don’t know how powerful he is, or what he’s doing, or how to find him.

He's some kind of Geneticist, and as far as I've been able to put together he created Jack as a byproduct of one of his experiments.

Needless to say, he doesn't seem to care much about that, and I have no idea what his end goals for his work are.

Spread the word about him, keep a look out. He apparently hasn't been shy with his name. He's a mad scientist and if you see him you run or shoot first and then run.

No.

>>
“For now…” For now, you’re kind of just swinging in the dark, aren’t you? You feel like you know nothing about Typhon, but he knows damn near everything about you. “…I’d say nobody should be going out alone, no matter how tough you think you are. If you want to, I dunno, head into town with a friend, and you don’t have big powers, someone that can make an impact should be going with you.”

Safety in numbers. Tried and tested.

“Hah.” It spits through your head like a line of firecrackers. You didn’t know Jono could make that kind of noise. “Kiden won’t like that.”

“She’ll have to deal with it.”

You give them a brief description of Typhon as he was when you last ran into him – tall, dark-haired, blemishless, with eyes like stars. You notice a few shared looks when you bring up that last thing. You try to describe the… feeling… he radiates, that blissful sense of warmth and acceptance, but it’s hard. Try as you might, it’s honestly beyond words. Laura cuts in, saying it’s the safest she’s ever felt.

Which makes you kind of jealous, actually.

“Just so you guys get quite how serious up this guy is, he claims to have invented Jack and he might be some kind of power thief.” The silence hangs. “And…”

You glance over at Kevin.

…Is he wiping blood from his mouth?

Does everyone have nosebleed for some reason?

“…he did something to Kevin, something that took away his speech. I don’t know how it works or if it’s even permanent, but…” You turn towards Julian and the triplets. The tripartite blondes are staring intently at you, a low, barely-audible hum passing between their lips. “…we'd be incredibly grateful if you could take a look at his head, maybe see if you can fix something.”

One of them turns to Julian, a silent conversation passing between them, and their eyes come down once again upon you. They nod, and Julian mutters that he’ll get in touch about it.

Farms underground will not work. The grid in this area is turned off, so it would be running on battery's or running a line from a local power point, which would be easily traceable.

So the farms would be up as long as an electric gen mutant is awake and using. Not really ideal. Same problem with water.

Both those would be required for an underground farm. Its just not feesable.

JJ can dig but he can't prevent the tunnel from collapsing. There are probably mutants in the marvel universe that can make their own concrete or something.

>Crusty said they would.
If JJ gets the Chlorophyll extrapolative (which we don't have) then he would be able to grow plants without sunlight. But that doesn't solve the light or clean water problems.
>>
>>42361117
Actually, if we got into it, we could create a system in which any water that was put into the ground stayed there (swales), massively lowering the water needed. Compost is an issue, but it'd just take time and effort.

“…Anything else?” Says Julian, hands stuffed in his pockets and chin up.

He sounds a little hostile. Everyone feels a bit on-edge, actually.

But yeah, there’s a few other things you’ve been wanting to talk about…

You describe at length the ideas that blossomed in your head on the way to the meeting. You’re all starting to become pretty visible – with or without powers – so you’ve been thinking that people should start moving off the streets. You know at least one group that hides out under an old parking lot, and they’ve got the right idea, far as you’re concerned. People should be moving underground. You can clear out some of the disused metro tunnels for easy escape routes when the shit starts hitting the fan, maybe even dig a few tunnels of your own. If you can find an underground reservoir it might not be too far-fetched to start planting stuff down there, too.

It’s strange. The more you talk, the more you realize you’re thinking of the Scar less like a nasty tear in NY’s hide, and more like a nation.

Hisako chuckles quietly.

“You want us to come and live underground with you and your Morlocks?”

What?

“…What?”

She blinks, a look of surprise flashing across her features.

“Morlocks. Y’know, that’s what people’ve been calling you…” She trails off for a moment, just staring at you, a hint of embarrassed pink flushing through her cheeks. “…since you guys live underground and stuff.”

Huh. Morlocks.

“…Well, maybe.” You say, eventually. “It could be an idea.”

“Anyway…” You scratch at your neck, feeling a little awkward once again. “…Sorry for shouting. I kinda lost my temper there.”

Because these guys were being giant babies. But it’s okay – you, Jonathan James Green, are the bigger mutant, and so you will apologize for things that aren’t actually your fault at all. That’s what being an adult is all about, right?

With your business concluded, your three merry bands go about their merry way. The Young X-Men, back to their library-turned-mansion, the Hellions to their apartment, and the Corsairs, you’re willing to bet, in the direction of someone with disposable income and loose locks. As you descend the trail of rubble sprawling across one side of the school you hear someone picking their way through the mess, and grimace very slightly when Megan appears beside Laura.

“Hey!” She grins broadly, eyes shining. “Jono said I could go back with you guys! You have a seriously loud voice, by the way…”

yeah, but then that still means we have to deal with Hank McCoy.

In 616 he's become a big Hippocratic, especially with his dealings regarding Rightclops.

You know, telling scott it was a terrible idea to have a black ops hit squad, then joining the avengers black ops hit squad.

Saying they shouldn't work with Magneto, then turning around to work with his evil alternate Dark Beast to try and undo M Day.

616 Hank is a bit of a monster.

And don't get me started on his Illuminati business.

Well, maybe this world's hank is better. Maybe he's more like 70s Avengers Hank, TAS Hank, or Evolution hank.

SO you guys gonna timeskip. JJ isn't just gonna sit on his ass while you guys flash forward, though. JJ is a machine who eats player choices and shits out narrative. He can't be stopped, not even by fade to black.

So, while you're lounging around, JJ will be perfecting TWO of his martial skills. Which of those skills will it be?
