Your pods shift in their orbits, adjusting their views of the human worlds over which they watch as a wave of encrypted radio transmissions and warming thermal signatures cover dozens of human settlements. Metal hangars open like flowers across the surface of Path, Gemini beta, Tadega, Talgo, and many others as the signature shield caps are exposed from their shelters and their docking platforms raise up like skyscrapers to tower over military bases and dock yards across Union space. Trucks the size of houses slowly roll up to the sides of the naked spines of the ships, bringing missile racks, auto cannon emplacements, sensor suites, and fighter bays and grafting them to the modular super structure of the spindly hull. Vehicles marked for dangerous material transport load the bays with nukes and slugs of uranium, and tankers bring in containers of water, hydrogen, and even canderon shipments arrive under heavy guard. Small golden orbs of light flicker into existence above them, and the ships slowly rise into the air one after another.

In orbit, small moons and asteroids open hangar doors and retract scaffolding to reveal the spines of capital ships. Tugs and hundred meter armatures reach out to them with drop pod launch tubes and hangar bays and cruise missile launchers mixed with turreted weapons the size of gunships. Umbilical cables run between the stations and the ships, tangling the capitals in a web of plastic polymers that begin to fire from their locked positions along the shield caps and storage tanks. Their drive rings shimmer and flicker with arcing light, and they begin to lurch forward one after another.

There is silence again.

Fireballs slowly flicker out in the atmosphere of the forested moon like embers being snuffed in ash as the enemy fleet’s remains cascade to the planet bellow. Your own ships have surrounded the Hive ship. It is badly damaged, its hull breached at multiple points, its drive wings severed, and its hull burnt a crisp black. Its spinal mounts have been broke, connected only by crisp flesh and strands of tendons. What sensors are left along the surface twitch and seep blood, while the shattered and gouged weapon emplacements twist in a vain effort to fire their useless guns at your shuttles as they burn their way into the still compressed compartments.

Workers chop and saw their way through the hull with their blades, seeping the glowing blades into the charred hull. The severed chunks break loose, and your warriors step in. The first kick in the hull fragments, sending them tumbling into the pitch darkness of an unfamiliar hive ship.

The air is cold, and the atmosphere is thin. You can hear the distant hiss of leaking air and the scampers of workers, and the thumping stomps of warriors. You can feel the echoing of the internal noise, the twisting of the halls. Your warriors do not need eyes to see, but even still, this is another's hive. Once your surprise wears off, it will be their advantage.

Your drones launch themselves into the darkness. Your heavy warriors reach out and tear into the first line of enemy troops. Their carapaces are a reflective sleek black, with thorns sprouting from their backs. Their blades are long and sharp, made of a matte black material that vanishes in the darkness. The first drone's head is removed by a heavy warrior's tail, and its body is evaporated by concentrated blaster fire, giving a soft glow over the rest of them. Your drones images reflect from the defenders' bodies in warped, crimson figures.

Yeah, I don't think we have the towers yet. We should probably get some since I imagine we'll be stepping up battleship production soon.

On the other hand, I think once our citadel hive ship is finished it can automatically deploy a capillary tower, correct?
>>
>>42363259
Yes, at the cost of having the Hiveship immobile.
>>
I think we should encourage the the union to take the mirage wreckage

They got the tech to contain the Shard right now

And lets be honest here

If the commonwealth get their hands on it they will start fucking with it too

At least with the union we have infiltrated their black ops research projects and keep tabs on it

We should also bring up the fact that mad doc brain scans show the same effects as the psi subjects so we can get him transferred and studied
>>
>>42363287
That is why the Citadel hiveship was designed for. Its got the heaviest armor possible and plenty of missiles.
>>
>>42363378
Or we take it away from both of them
>>
>>42363378

Or, we can pick this moment to reveal ourselves(or use our stealth ships to attempt a covert recovery). We'll be going public to the Union soon anyway. Letting the humans hold a void shard is a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>42363378
You actually have a point there, we at least have claws within the Union's highest black research divisions so we have an idea where we can find the thing if we need to take it. If it goes to the Commonwealth, we have no idea where it'll go and we have the burden of having to maintain diplomacy with them, not so if it's in Union hands.
>>
>>42363378
or we just destroy the union and take the shard while splitting the conquered planets with the commonwealth
>>
>>42363460
>>42363469
Right between two fleets and the void watching

The void decided to start corrupting them now and there's nothing we can really do about it unless we are will to expose ourselves before the void
>>
>>42363395
Right, speaking of Citadel Hiveship.

The defenders have packed in from wall to wall, and your own drones to the same, pouring in against each other until the chamber is a solid mass of chittering, gnashing mandibles and slicing blades. Your heavy warrior cracks a drone like a walnut in its mandibles and spits it out, then brings a blade through another, ripping through it like paper. Your warriors crawl over them and begin to fire, filling the space with burning plasma. You begin to hear the rapid popping sound of bursting corpses as warriors cook to death in their shells and the boiling contents split them open like roasting corn kernels. The fire spreads like liquid in the zero gravity, reaching out like pillars and rolling over drones and walls alike as it fills the chamber. The burning plasma leaves layers of smoke behind in a thin and wispy wall, and your drones charge through.

Your sniffers spread out, hunting for the scent of the ship's control center. It should be close to the never stem, but it is slightly different for every ship, partly to protect against exactly what you are doing. The warriors expand their search and push back at the defenders. Small stings ricochet off your heavy drones and thorn launchers ping against the thick plating, denting and leaving small cracks across their thick armor. Your drones march forward against them and tear the attacking drone in half and sending the pieces bouncing against the walls. It lifts another off the ground with its mandibles and shakes it, knocking away several others as they scrape at its carapace with their blades. It swings its tail and removes the front two legs of an approaching warrior above the knees, and then plunges the blade into its torso.

Ours is buried and sealed away and after that we discovered how to use psi stealthy

That thing isn't and would need to be retrieved by a drone out of the wreck

The monkeys had contained it and we were lucky when we blew up the mirage

Let's try to picture what would happen if we suddenly jumped a sizable fleet to where the Mirage was and attempted to salvage the wreckage. The Commonwealth is already in diplomatic communication with us. They know we're powerful (although not the extent of our power), and possible allies against at least the scavengers. Intervening would strain our relationship, but they would almost certainly not attack us. The Union, on the other hand, while gearing up for war against the Commonwealth, probably doesn't want to just straight up attack a strange alien power. They're a much more unknown and unpredictable entity here, but if we play it right we can probably recover the shards and depart without being attacked.

As for mind reading/corruption - we at least know about that danger and can attempt to put fail-safes in place. The humans don't have any real understanding of the danger they're messing around with. Letting them recover it could backfire tremendously. We don't want to have to deal with corrupted human sleeper agents, for example, and if the void attacks the humans, we may follow quickly.
>>
>>42363780
Our Heavy Drones are fucking terrifying
>>
>>42363808
Let's not try to picture that because it'd be stupid. Stealthy approach is required.
>>
>>42363803
On a side note, the insulators seem to be similar in function to whatever it is the Union is using to "contain" the Mirage's power source. It seems the builder was stumbling down the same research track by chance, which does happen. You unlocked your new shield tech without studying Scavenger shields, for example. All factions have a chance to unlock the same tech from totally different methods, or simply overlook them.

Hive Queen Quest 53.2

Somehow the monkeys figured out how to make psi insulators to contain the damn thing

Thank fuck they never asked the psi department to look into the things

Would have given them a major boost in there research

>>
>>42363780

>>
>>42363862
They got containment. But what precisely does it contain? Psi emissions? We don't have troubles with that.
Any shard affects non-psionic life, it has already been established.
It just seems like a huge leap of logic on your part to assume that it'd automatically send out a signal to them if we took it away.
>>42363808
Seems legit, show of force would scare them away. But it'd also give away that we know what's there and what happened there. It might let them know that we blew it up, since besides union and commonwealth we'd be the only ones who know about it.
>>
>>42363991
But it already sent out a signal after breaking free
>>
>>42363808
Eh we would be taking it out of the commonwealth hands

Don't think they would give that to us willing

We would need to write-off any future diplomacy with the commonwealth then
>>
>>42363988
That's what I designed them for
>>
>>42364012
It didn't send a signal. We detected a psionic stray thought via our pod with our ridiculously powerful psionic radars, nothing to indicate a signal or message, only a presence of a powerful-ish psionic.thingy.

Two warriors rip at each other, their mandibles held wide as they try to eat each other, their blades locked together at the claws. Your warrior pivots its wrist and its blade heats up, then begins to burn through the enemy drone's arm. It comes off quickly like a roasted turkey leg, and the blade continues through the front half of its head. The drone falls back, skittering its legs against the flesh of the ship's hall as it floats into the air. Your warrior opens fire, and an arc of lighting leaps to the twitching body, splitting it like a log struck down the middle. It turns to fire at another, and the swirling beam sparks over its carapace in a dazzling light show as its arms snap in natural muscle spasms.

Six more charge in, and your warrior drags the lighting across them, severing two across the abdomen before the remaining enter melee. A blade slices through your warrior's carapace, cutting off a leg. It blocks the next and twists its blade to slice the arm off the attacker as a third drone plunges its blades into its carapace and drags them down its thorax. Your warrior sings its arm in response, severing the head of the drone behind it, and a volley of thorns rip through its arm from a hidden passage across the cramped hall. Your warrior turns again to return fire and a blade severs its arm.

Your direct more warriors to the position, and they arrive as a swarm of black drones tear your warrior into pieces. You open fire, and your warriors torch the close formation with plasma. Thorn fire riddles their carapaces from the far side of the flaming wall, and you can hear the rumble of secondary passages as they fill with drones. Several warriors emerge from one of the small passages, and a heavy warrior plucks it with its tail, and crushes it in its grip before tossing it aside like refuse. It sinks its blades into the wall, stabbing it several times until you no longer detect the rushing sounds of drones.

The tugs are slow, painfully so in fact, and as they work to bring the melted remains of whatever they have found out of the eye of the inconceivably vast storm, you feel a twinge of thought; a faint whisper only slightly louder than the passive static of the universe. It nearly goes without you noticing, before slipping back into silence. The Union corvettes retreat from the system.

Your sniffers expand out behind and amid your forces, searching for the telltale signs of the ship's internal architecture, the layout of its bloodstream and nerve clusters. Much has been damaged, and circulation has been cut to many sections, with some being sealed off due to decompression. The chaos and extensive damage makes mapping where things should be rather difficult, and the additional guesswork of deciphering the Hive ship's layout is an uphill battle in more ways than one. Your heavy warriors have taken nothing you could even classify as an injury, their armor more akin to that of a tank then a drone. The Obsidian queen's warriors chew at joints and lung for eyes. They learn with every warrior you kill, and their movements are more complex then what any thinker could accomplish. The advanced relay is still aboard, you just need to find it.

We know that there is at least one human approaching psi capability in the Union; Dr. Emmerich. But personally I think that whisper we heard was just an accidental transmission of tachyons or blanket distress beacon of some sort. Remember our discovery of memory crystals in the ruined hive ship?

Also, tell your boss you are doing things for mother.

Also he's butt-buddies with Heretic so I doubt the Skyl intelligences, the same ones that helped the Gardener create the cannon, would hold back their knowledge.

Though as I type this out I guess I can see where they might try to eventually work on their own psionic cannons

They might be the only ones we could trust with another Cannon though. Maybe two or three cannons can work where Mothers plan failed with one

All is takes is one group of thesus deciding they want to give it a shot

I just don't want to risk the aftermath of that

Just let the union get it hands on it and tell gillian to start making the psi cannon

Let them deal with the blowback while we keep the research
>>
>>42365213
Theseus is totally going to research that shit. His life's goal is to research all of the shit.

It doesn't matter if they shoot unity on site, I'm not saying he have a nice cup of tea with them. I'm saying he either blows the salvage the fuck up or he captures it and brings it to us. Ideally before the other ships in the system arrive. I guess it depends on how close he can warp into the tugs.

>>
>>42365423
I know right

So hard to resist your instincts sometimes

I figure the only reason he backed down was that it meant going to war with us to take the shard

I think we should do what mom did

Feed the humans info on how to make a psi cannon and let them take the fallout

They only problems were how to give them a shard and how to feed info

But now we have a head researcher and the union have a shard

Sure we will have to kill gillian after a successful test to leave on traces of our involvement but it would be worth it to know how the things work

Your drones drive forward, plunging their swarm into the depths of the ship under the direction of your sniffers. You follow the lines of capillaries and arteries, the complex network of flickering and damaged nerves. Warriors quickly fill the gaps behind you, slamming into the line of heavy warriors left defending the shuttles.

Your drones sense the movement around them. Hidden corridors, vents, and express paths fill with moving drones all around you. This is their home, and every dead end you find is a reminder of that. Doors shift and slam on your drones, cutting your wasps in half and sealing off your drones. You cut through them and break them down, and the walls shift and alter their layout, shunting your advance into more dead ends and damaged sections.

You take fire from all around. Chitin slugs fly from hidden passages and warriors hidden away in crevices. Your wasps have little room to maneuver and their wings are torn and their carapaces shattered. They seek shelter within the circle of heavy warriors, swarming close to the sniffers as they follow the trail of tendons and nerve clusters. A heavy warrior's leg joint locks as a drone reaches out and bites down on the soft gap in the armor. Your drone flexes its leg and the mandibles sink into the tissue. It oozes blood as your drone brings its arm down on the warrior's spiked back and fires its thumper, sending chunks out in all directions. The head continues to bite down, locked in a death grip as your drone saws it off with its tail. Others quickly arrive, and chitin slugs bounce harmlessly off the drone's carapace. Your other drones return fire, and the attackers scatter into hidden alcoves, reappearing on your flank and peppering your drones, ripping into the armor of your warriors as they fire back into the tiny defensive positions.

A heavy warrior slams into the wall, firing its thumper and collapsing the section. Other warriors fire from its sides, and your drones scorch it with lighting and plasma. They are quick to fall back again, whittling down your less armored drones with each attack.

A warrior lunges from an alcove as your heavy warriors clear the chamber ahead, and a blade sinks into its eye. The drone slams its arms together and the warrior's body crumbles like tin foil. It fires its thumpers and the remains paint the wall. It stammers back, reorienting itself with only three eyes, it adjusts its position in the swarm, relying on the eyes of its brothers.

Your sniffers locate a large node, a place where clusters of nerves and blood is pooled together. Your drones puncture the wall as it seals against you and your swarm pours into a large open chambers. Eggs line the walls and workers shuffle from place to place. A large pulsating sac hangs in the center, its contents string slightly. Warriors fill the space around it, and it is covered in a churning swarm of tiny drones, each with a glowing abdomen and a set of wings buzzing idly. They begin to stir, releasing from the anchors and floating into the zero gravity.

This is actually not a bad plan. Doctor the footage to not give away any direct ship functions and we are good. Obviously there is no doctoring out the ammo used but at least they won't know which ship is capable of firing what for now.

And for the record I have no issues trading or even giving footage of the battle to our two allies so they can be more effective against BQ. However it should be edited to not directly show our ships movements/placements/etc.

Livestreaming like that other fuck tard wants is about the stupidest thing you could possibly do. Not just because it would be giving away shit they don't need to know. >>
>>42366861
Look here, there is basically no chance of Theseus attacking us. He has no reason to, and you're the only guy in this thread who wants to go to war with him. He's the closest ally we have and that's the way it's going to stay.

He's well aware of our cloaking abilities, and has known about them from the time we were small enough to be wiped out by him if the Unity decided to do so. That's the entire reason he asked us to go to Earth for him, because he knew we could circumvent the Union observation field.
>>
>>42366913
While the Union acts in rational self-interest, there is a very good chance (from there perspective) that we're misleading them by saying not to touch the black crystals. For all they know the crystals could be our one weakness. There is no surer way to get a human to do something then to forbid him to do it. No kind of treaty or inspections would be worth anything even.

I do agree we can trust Unity, however. Theseus has proved to be a valuable and trustworthy ally time and time again. He has also linked/shared data with Heretic and will actually realize the full danger of the crystals. I think we can trust Unity to not fuck around with crystals dangerously. Humans are much less predictable...

The two groups slam into each other and the front lines crack and shatter from the force as blades and chunks of armor fly in all directions. Your heavy warriors open fire with their weapons, shredding the enemy drones and filling the egg layer with chitinous bolts. It oozes nutrient sap from its soft flesh as its surface ripples from the impacts.

The small swarms of glowing drones swarm around your forces, and you see them charging in at your heavy warriors. One latches to the back of one and its abdomen swells and becomes hot, burning with some chemical reaction before it vomits a burning material over your drone. A warrior reaches back with its weapon and vaporizes it in response, but the material oozes over the heavy warrior, fusing its armor at the joints and melting through the sift joint tissue. It quickly becomes a thick yellow glowing ichor that bubbles and smokes, sticking to the drone's carapace like half-dried glue.

The enemy warriors are no match in the open against your own drones' superior armor and weapons. The few that remain quickly fall back as drones in the wall lay down covering fire, forcing your warriors to take cover behind your heavy drones. Workers shuffle eggs out of the room as chitin flies by their heads. A warrior slices one in two as it runs, and begins burning the field of eggs with chemical plasma.

The swarm of small drones pulls in closer, and half a dozen cover one of your warriors, vomiting the strange ichor over it. It quickly forms a burning cocoon that welds its claws to the ground and fuses its carapace in place. Its body begins to liquefy until you can no longer feel its mind, and its body stands motionless in place as the small drones begin to devour the yellow paste. Your drones ignite them with plasma and vaporize them with lighting, frying the ichor paste into a crispy black crust. It cracks open and begins to melt away into an amorphous mixture of digested organs and yellow paste.

Best case scenario is us sealing the thing away in the depths of leeland along with our other void shard, to be used in the final showdown. We just need a way to take it from the commonwealth while not making an enemy of either them or the union. Commonwealth may not be in a position to make an enemy of us either which we can work to our advantage,
>>
>>42367252
Your plasma and acid torch the swarms, forcing them back from your remaining forces. They vomit from a distance, sending globules of material through the air in the zero gravity, covering the leg of a heavy warrior, burning the wings off of several of your drones, and burning the outer layers of the carapaces of several others. The substance hardens and scabs over after several minutes.

The room is in cinders, the egg layer deflates slowly, filling the room with ooze and blood. Your sniffers dig into the walls and floors, finding the arteries and nerves.

"Found thing! Found thing for Mother!" They chant, and your drones swarm down one of the hallways leading away from the chamber. The egg chamber is a critical room, meaning the ship's brain is near. Your sniffers can sense it, the central nervous system of the ship, running from the egg layer to the relay directly. As if you confirm your suspicion, the warriors return, throwing themselves against your drones as they advance.

You can feel the mind of the Obsidian Queen as your drones race up to the unmarked sealed door that is flexed shut in front of you.

She is concerned.

So the strange space bugs who they met yesterday hands them a copy classified enemy documents and you concede they won't believe this. They will however take a rogue AI and an unknown alien engram they've never met before at their word, that's your plan?

Look, I would agree with you on this approach if we were trying to convince the likes of Theseus who operates more like an individual but we're dealing with nation states here, if it doesn't sound like something you'd expect America agreeing to they're not likely to agree to it. More likely they'll think holy shit all these unfathomably alien beings are very intent on us not having this powerful crystal thing, we'd better get a hold of it as soon as possible.

Nah, I'd expect them to milk us for concessions of military tech. Which I'm fine with since we're going to be allies anyway. Or at least be extremely careful with any tech they do have, which is almost as good.

The door shatters and your drones pour in. The chamber is a large circular room with pylons of bone reaching up and out like a web around the chamber. Above you, by the wall facing the thermal vents at the rear of the ship, is a tremendous brain, covered in nerve clusters and webs of capillaries. Sub-thinkers are spread out around it, churning in silence as they frustratingly work to operate a ship that no longer functions. You can hear the murmuring of numbers and trajectories, and lists of damage and resource requests.

In the middle of it all, huddled over the brain, is a large pulsating crest of translucent chitin. It stirs and grumbles as several supports pull themselves free from the web of pylons. It climbs along the bone struts and faces your swarming drones. A large drone covered in a reflective black carapace, its body covered in thorns on which swarms of the small glowing drones nest in large batches. Lightly armored winged warriors climb along the edges of its nest. Its abdomen swells up, the skin thinning in streaks where a glowing yellow can be seen illuminating the ground bellow, and its mandibles unfold, its mouth lined with shaped fins and nozzles like a plasma spray. Its head ends in a massive headcrest that folds back and rests in the air where its back weapon should be, where you see the pulsing mass of an advanced relay.

The Obsidian Queen looks at your drone through her relay's eyes. This drone was never meant to be seen, you realize.

cont.
>>
>>42368537
Its head shakes, and you feel a powerful burst of static that freezes a number of your drones in their tracks. They flicker from your mind as they stumble in confusion, and a large globule of ichor fires from the drone's mouth, plastering several heavy warriors to the wall as they are slowly broken down by the strange material. Your others deflect the incoming attacks from the drones on its back, and cover your forces as they pour into the chamber Your other drones spread out, confused at what your will is for this drone.

>Capture for Mother!

As your drones ready their attack, their minds single in their focus, you detect something entering the system's debris field. Your patrolling ships turn their sensors to it, and you detect a number of ships accelerating towards the planet. A single battleship, flanked by ten battlecruisers and at least thirty cruisers and a cloud of smaller frigates and corvettes. You wonder the purpose of the fleet, as your own force out guns and out numbers them still, and then you see the battleship fire.

The light, racing over the course of several hours to reach your fleet, is only a few short moments ahead of the impactor rounds. They grind through the debris surrounding the hive ship and detonate against one of the detached drive wings. The hull shakes, and your drones can feel the explosions through the bones of the Hive ship. They don't seem to be here to retake the planet. They are here to deny you your spoils.

your drones spread out to avoid the relay's ichor and its mental attacks. The warriors on its back adjust themselves with their weapons, and the small glowing drones take flight into the air around it.

Please roll 1d100, best of 3.

The void probably wants us to kill her.

Note that the Ceph haven't hunted us down.

The WQ is vanquished. The Obsidian one has outlived her usefulness. Once she dies, only one queen will remain, and it will be one without OQ's advanced and dangerous knowledge.
>>
>>42368856
The relay fires a globule and your drones scatter, dodging the ichor as it hits the wall and cascades over the bone pylons. You can hear the ship's mind react to the pain. Its sub brains compartmentalizing the countless damaged systems.

"There is burning. The room is damaged."
"Everything is damaged."
"Blinding. Burning. Nothing works."
"Repair for Mother. Kill for Mother."
"Cannot repair. Cannot kill."

The relay climbs over the webbing of support struts after your drones, signaling its mental scream and sending your wasps scattering like leaves in the wind. They drift out of the cone of effect and adjust their velocity, maintaining a high speed as they pepper the swarming drones with stingers. Ichor bursts from each one, and they scatter in thick droplets that sting your drones as they peck at them, splattering painful stains across their armor. Several others are picked off by the weapons fire of the warriors, and they too take flight. Their designs are similar to your own wasps, but with worker legs and long, flat abdomens that tilt and turn with their wings. You quickly find that they have an advantage in maneuverability over your wasps, but your wasps have greater numbers.

"Cannot kill. Can be killed."
"Target was missed."
"We still are. Mother is in danger."
"We must die for Mother."

The thinkers of the Hive ship begin broadcasting targeting data to the approaching fleet. They will not likely miss again.

No anon, if we can capture a relay intact, we can graft a disruptor on it,and if we can do that, the OQ's entire relay network will be disrupted, just like what she did to the Gardener long ago. That's why she wants her own hiveship destroyed.

Thew burnout bug would have done that the instant we got access to it if we had sent it in like I kept asking for.
>>
>>42369351
What ships do we have in the planet? Can we send reinforcements to flank?
>>
>>42369484
I like this idea. Maybe as a backup option? One way or another, we'll slag that intervening fleet. And absorb its nutrients.

>>42369524
That's OQ's drone-thoughts. Not ours.

What? No. No you can't. How the hell do you expect to move a completely crippled ship?

>>Have your ships move between the approaching fleet and the Hive ship to prevent its destruction

The ship motherfucking contains the relay, and you cannot get the relay out that quickly, no.

The exit is THREE KILOMETERS AWAY.
>>
>>42369616

Anon, you do realize how large in scale a hive ship is right? From stern to bow it's 6 fucking kilometers long. Those ships are already within range to blow it to bits.
>>
>>42369421
>protect ship
>>
>>42369351
>Have your ships move between the approaching fleet and the Hive ship to prevent its destruction
Unless someone comes up with a better idea, this is the most straightforward solution. And firing back of course.

To be sure though, it's the relay itself that has the spider upgrade? We don't really have an answer to something like that. Colossi aside, there is a place for 'boss' types, especially in some sot of throne room in a hive ship. Although it could just be my inner gamer spirit calling for one.

Impressed we found the throne on the hive ship in so little time with only 1.5k units aboard.
>>
>>42369667
They're moving a damn sight faster than 1/4 of the speed of light.
>>
>>42369667
You also have to make it stop moving first.
>>
>>42369683
>only 1.5k units

The entire capacity of a hive ship is only 5 thousand units.

It wasn't that small an amount.
>>
>>42369351
>Have your ships move between the approaching fleet and the Hive ship to prevent its destruction
Only correct choice. Must not let the relay be destroyed.
>>
>>42369723
I'm suspicious it's been 20 minutes and no prompt to roll.

Maybe this is an auto-success, sacrificing ourselves on the enemy's ferrous slugs.
>>
>>42369667
They are moving just under light judging by QDs descriptions. As long as we protect the core of the shit we might be fine.

>>42369717
The ship itself is still pretty bloody big though, and we were given the runaround. I guess our knowledge of ship biology was good enough.

>>42369762
We have to roll for our counterattack damage though anon.
>>
>>42369351
The wasps tumble with the winged warriors, their claws and blades slicing at each other furiously. They devour each other, sending arms and legs spiraling outward as chitin slugs fly across the room like the blades of a blender. Clouds of blood and chunks of drone fill the room as the massive relay drone vomits over your heavy warriors. Sniffers scatter over it, scratching at the small drones and clawing at the realy's face. It lets out a psionic scream, and the sniffers freeze, drifting away in a stupor. The drone devours several at once, and fires a globule at the others, encompassing them in a deadly ichor.

"How?"

The thought is piercing. Your mind races as the drone's relay pulsates with the will of its queen. You see images of a dark planet, covered in molten rock and sulfuric gas. Black spires reach up like reflective shards of obsidian glass. You can feel her mind direct its attention to your own as your drones rip each other to pieces.

"Who are you?" The thought it pointed, accusatory even, as if your existence is evidence of a crime.

>Have your ships move between the approaching fleet and the Hive ship to prevent its destruction
Your corvettes move out into a field around the Hive ship, just as light of the battleship's next savo reaches you. It gives you little time to react, but just off the shattered bow of the Hive ship, your corvette vanishes into an orb of fire, a cruiser's shields flicker and die as it is sent spiraling out of formation as another two hit its side, and and a frigate snaps in half from the force of the impacts to its bow, its shields blocking the first, but not the second.

You glimpse an image of her as your minds connect. You see her twisted figure sitting in darkness, her body reflecting what little light there is. A black crystal protrudes from her head, its smooth and jagged shape clung to by bits of raw flesh and cracked carapace. Reflective shards of black metallic shards reach up from her back. Her head shakes as her minds races over the events unfolding.

Your drones evade the relay's attacks, and it charges your line of heavy warriors, ichor oozing from its mouth. Claws scrape and chitin flies between the wasps and flying warriors. You snap your mind to hers, giving her a passing glance of attention before returning to your children.

"A true queen." You say simply. Your heavy warrior is hit with the claws of the relay drone, and it sinks its mandibles into it, and quickly leaps to its face. Its thumper fires across the drone's jaw, and the mandibles snap from the force. Ichor drips out from the drone's mouth as it twists its head from the force, and it rears up.

Your drones fire on its legs, the thick chitin cracking and breaking in fragments. The relay reaches back and knocks away one of your heavy warriors, and vomits a globule over several wasps as they pass.

"You are not from here." She says to you. The ship rocks as it catches the outermost edges of the planet's atmosphere.

"No. I know you." Her mind echos over her fleet. "The White Queen's spawn."

Your drones move in behind the relay as it charges, and your heavy warrior snaps a leg off with its thumper. It brings up its other leg and kicks your drone away. It fires another globule over several more drones, and the few remaining warriors on its back fire at your drones. Lighting arcs from your warriors and carve into its back, blasting away the drones from between its back spines, and the entire hull shakes as an impactor erupts along the hull. Bones along the walls snap and crack as the supports warp from the force. Several of your corvettes take three more of the shots, and then the last strike near the center of the ship. The hull begins to crack, and fire builds up along the outer hull as it dips into the atmosphere of the planet.

Your ships begin to loose sight of the Hive ship as it descends beneath the thick cloud cover, and it trails hull fragments as it slowly is engulfed in flame. The light diffuses through the clouds, causing them to glow a bright orange. The drones within are tossed about in the room, slamming from wall to wall as the ship begins tumbling end over end. The heat from outside glows softly against the thick armor of the hull, and the drones flicker in your mind with flashing images of breaking limbs and snapped chitin as the walls race forward and the pillars bludgeon the drones within.

As the Hive ship vanishes, you see the approaching fleet begin to blink away, their interest in your ships lost now that their purpose is finished.

If you'd like, I think we can end this thread and I can start setting up for the next.

If we're talking ship designs now, here's a cheep and agile counterpart to the heavy fighters. It relies on evasion and it's shields to stay intact, and with it's Linear Particle Beam's it can deal a great deal of damage at a longer range than most other hive fighter craft. You know what we still haven't gotten an opportunity to even look at?

Pods. And that upper-class apartment building where the doctor we are going to parasite lives where our flies infiltrated.

One of those flies should be mutated into a parasite by now. And another into an egglayer in the vents maybe.

If you hadn't given us so many votes within the ship, it would have gone much quicker.

We need to kit out another 4 or so clones with cybernetics so we can finally send a crack team that plays by its own rules to Mentan.

We can break into their research labs and swipe the human tech to unlock from there.

The Thinkers hunger. We need to start preparing now.
>>
>>42371275
This design is invalid.

>>42371354
Yes. bring up votes. Which first anon did.

The second contributes nothing. It's not a new plan or idea or vote concept.

I'll back those votes.

I would also like details on all our other holdings, now that we've technically had resources being gathered on some of them like Huron, but they haven't been accounted for, 500 filter towers specifically. A general round of votes for building infrastructure on different unclaimed planets would be nice, too.

Okay, we can put the corvette in the missile ambush fleets, and the fighter in the heavy fleet.

We should probably make a general purpose combat fleet at some point.

>>42371336
No, but they do generate enough consensus to sort out what we want, so we can give QD an informed plan when he get's the chance.
>>
>>42371370
Anon, if you're going to claim something like that you better explain why.
>>
>>42371381
The idea is for the fleets to sort of specialize. You don't need to mix groups into a single fleet when you can mix and match different fleets the specialize in one role for whatever order of battle you want.

So instead of having a fleet that just combines a light fleet and a heavy battlefleet and whatever else, you just have four or five distinct fleet types and decide what to send from there.
>>
You guys are idiots. The fighter is impossible to make.

Fighters can't equip damage control.

Yes, along with salvage attempts.

We can try again another time, as we know ship layouts better which will help us find a relay faster even if she changes the layout. We'll be more prepared for fighting drones and capturing a relay too, adding some psionic disruptors and sirens to our forces, because two can play at that game.

On the other hand, she'll be more prepared too, likely having more protection around her relay for example. So it evens out, really.
>>
>>42371411
Oh I completely agree, but our light fleets only contain frigates and cruisers, both of which lack any method for carrying strike craft. It would make more sense to pair them up with our carriers automatically, really.
>>
You know what's helpful and nonfatal for capturing enemy drones alive.

The Siren adaptation. Which still nothing has.

Edit the Light Fleet to include fighter carriers? I'm for it. More of those class of battlecruiser would be advantageous to our fleet composition, it would give us a lot more larger strikecraft outside of the swarm hangers.
>>
>>42371496
We should really use this and advanced psionic disruptors in future OQ engagements.

What's the best way to add them to our forces? On a Colossi? I imagine they be priority targets as soon as OQ caught on, so maybe making them incredibly sturdy is the way to go.
>>
>>42371562
Or you just spam tons of them.

>>
Just an observation: we might have to get our next Relay from one of OQ's planets next time, not on her Hive ship. I mean, we tried to get at her Relay on her Hive ship the first time - the next time we see one of OQ's Hive ship it's highly probable that it contains no Relay, or it's an ambush, or both. Also we would probably need some sort of immobilizing weaponry like the Siren adaptation the anon mentioned above, and a really surgical, really fast plan of attack. Get in, sap and steal the Relay, then get back out fast, before OQ's full planetary defence force converges in on us.
>>
>>42371562
>>42371606
Why not both? we can just put them in hibernation if were worried about the cost.
>>
By the way, looking at the pirate cruiser from the discussion page, and should we add the ram and grapples to it? Maybe build a few. Just so next time she doesn't have the option to crash her own ship either.
>>

>>
>>42371628
Since planetary battles are inevitable at some point, we really need to build up our drone count, or she'll zerg rush us then. Her drones probably number in the billions, after all.

As for extraction, developing some effective barricade tactics might buy us some time in such ops.
>>
>>42371651
This could be cool. I'm picturing special ships the size of frigates that's just a huge, heavily-defended engine, with tons of grappling hooks making it look like it's got fur on its underside. They attach to bigger enemy ships and just blink drives them to another place, where our forces are waiting with superior firepower.
>>
>>42371692
For a total cost of 13295N 10690M. A relatively affordable addition to a light fleet, if I may say so.
>>
>>42371276
There's a big inefficiency with outfitting clones.

It's easy to say, clone 10 hybrids. But we only seem to a prompt on what cybernetics we want to add when something else forces our hand, like the New Tokyo meeting.

We need to add some augs to some of them more proactively to avoid a two day delay once we suddenly hear of a mission to go on like that.
>>
How to get crystal from commonwealth:
Have the ambassadrone call them, tell that we are feeling bad mojo artefact in that region (show a starmap on the wall, no names but recognisable easy enough), as if it's in their territory.
If they play cagey, say that we're going to rush there to recover it ourselves, making the diplomatic fracas their fault.
If they say it's their territory, offer to trade stuff it. Like tech. They likely can figure out we mean the mystery wreckage, and it will give them more incentive to keep it from the union.
>>
>>42371711
Man that's such a cunt way to wage warfare.
>>
I didn't realize it when i put up the writein to recruit a hacker, I was just in full Specialization lust mode. But Decker really is the lynchpin to the plan. He's the single highest risk/reward option.

Which is probably on a meta level why he also came with Coco the bug hunting shadehound.

He compromises the Panopticon security cameras. So he's the most likely to be able to notice something is off about Michael's behavior, as well as the one guy who once parasited and seduced to our side, can make the whole operation completely non-discoverable by falsifying those security cameras. We don't even need Theseus anymore.
>>
>>42371711
>just blink drives them

Ships can't blink things that are outside their own tiny bubble. Blinking would sever the harpoons.
>>
>>42371831
We have to try blinking away a chunk of an enemy ship sometime.
>>
>>42371831
And this gives me a new idea: insert our own blink drive onto their ship. So unfair, and so satisfying.
>>
>>42371808
Wouldn't that raise too many questions? Our drone is light years away from there to get such a signal, we can say that our ship received the signal but then it would be weird to cause a panic about the thing without sending a "recovery fleet."
>>
>>42371875
New thread's up!
>>
>>42371820
Okay, once our parasites and flies hatch. Decker plan.

We need to get him into Michael's room. We can say we want him to help clean up the mess in the room that Coco left yesterday. Take responsibility Nathan-kun.

So he has to spend half an hour unconscious in there. We'll have to be careful to lift up his shirt first so as to not get bloodstains on it.

Once he's parasited, he won't be automatically obedient, and we don't want something off about him to alert Coco and potentially get him attacked by his own pet. So we have to first influence him subtly, do things he might normally do anyway.

Like alter his room's camera feeds so that they're on a loop, showing him and Coco sleeping peacefully.

Then the parasite can keep him asleep, while Michael can visit his room with a pocket full of flies and a parasite to let into his room to take down and implant Coco.
>>
>>42371889
Yes obviously we say we got it from a ship, which then passed a message to our drone, who's our official diplomant. You know, the way diplomats work.

And we pretend we respect their space boundaries by asking if those boundaries include that system. With a slight subtext of /not/ caring for Union's boundaries.
>>
>>42371711
You need to use the Rip Drive if you want to kidnap enemy ships somehow.
>>
>>42371861
Like catapult a blink drive drone or something akin into a bulky threat and just blink it away?
Most parts of me think that's just too complex to be worthwhile compared to our many alternatives. And all the other parts..
>>
>>42371920
Two problems, 1 i still think we need to send a fleet over to express both the urgency of the situation and the danger of the artifact.
2 The union is still there and the minute they find out there's another space fairing race they WILL want to talk to us for diplomacy, something witch we cant allow for obvious reasons.
>>
>>42372000
>Two problems, 1 i still think we need to send a fleet over to express both the urgency of the situation and the danger of the artifact.
Hmm yeah, we can tell Commonwealth we're going there. But we're currently playing nice with them, so we wouldn't be grabbing it out of their hands.

>2 The union is still there and the minute they find out there's another space fairing race they WILL want to talk to us for diplomacy, something witch we cant allow for obvious reasons.
Keep silent and let CW be all smug "yes these are our new friends, whatchagunadoaboutit?"
>>
>>42372033
>Keep silent and let CW be all smug "yes these are our new friends, whatchagunadoaboutit?"
You are putting to much fate in human politics, making pacts are one thing but expecting the common wealth to defend us from the union is another. Another thing is that it still exposes us to the union and i don't want them to search for us.
>>
>>42372119
>expecting the common wealth to defend us from the union is another.
I did not mean it like that.

I mean it that if we do show up a fleet in that system, it would be a pretty substantial fleet, as an extra deterrent from Union even TRYING to go for the wreck.

It won't be "CW protects our fleet" but "CW flaunts having allies that can back it up (even if it's not necessarily true that we will do so)". That's perfectly in line with human politicing.

>Another thing is that it still exposes us to the union and i don't want them to search for us.
Yeah, that's a downside. I am angling for trying to have CW secure the wreck and then buy it from them, showing up in person is a contingency for extreme action if nothing else works.
