Yesterday you thwarted the kidnapping of your mermaid friend, Milly. It was surprisingly easy once you found the kidnappee and found out that they'd tried to hire adventurers. The problem pretty much solved itself once you made them aware of their position.

Adventurers, as you understand it, try to keep from doing anything to blatantly illegal. Some of them don't like doing illegal things at all! You're not sure how you feel about that. What's a little burglary between civilizations? It was all for the greater good anyhow.

Last night you turned in the mermaid to her mother for the reward of her mother, and probably yours, NOT destroying the city. She'd been appropriately grateful, though she tried to show it by crushing all your bones. You're still not sold on the hug thing. There were some vague promises of breakfast in the morning so you decided to crash on the beach after eating the spider that tried to kill Nytora.

Oh, a spider tried to kill Nytora. She took exception to that.

You're vaguely aware of having done this before. The details you can recall are scanty though. From what you can dredge from the depths of your already weak dream memory this didn't happen last time. Still, you're fairly certain that saying YES would have erased Nytora, or possibly both of you, and that's just no an option you like.

Without any idea what happens if you say NO you decide to call in the wizard. Calling in professional wizards has served you well in the past, after all. You select the wizard option and wait.

It takes you a moment to realize you have no idea what your surroundings are but as you focus they come into view. You're pretty sure that's a dream thing. A room forms around you, and you find yourself sitting in a chair made to comfortably accomodate a lizard's tail. There's a table in the center of the room, and your chair is pulled up to it. Across the table another chair sits empty and there's a door on the other side of the room from you that is fairly boring as doors go. One color, no decorations, just a door handle. Oh hey, there's a door behind you too!

The table is bare except for a cup of some strange material you're not familiar with, and a stack of file folders across the table next to the empty chair. You're quite familiar with the brew inside the cup though. It's that poison nastiness that Koma likes to drink. You take a sip and notice that the corner of the room has a weird pot inside another device. The pot has more of the coffee in it and has a small arrangement of other stuff off to the side. Little packet like thing that smell like not-milk and sugar.

You sip your drink and wait politely...

You've been very patient. It's been like five minutes. Really how long does it take to summon a wizard anyway? You think you can be forgiven for having taken an interest in your surroundings.

Sliding the files toward you, you continue to make excuses. You'll have to go over what's in these anyway, there's no reason you can't take a quick look see now. There're a few different folders here. A couple have writing on them in a language you can't read. Unless numbers aren't a language and this is some kind of math thing. You're aware of the existence of math though you don't belive you've ever been formally introduced.

Ther other folders seem to do with you. There are a couple of extra sheets of paper clipped to the top folder with the word "Crab'thulu" on them jumping out at you.

>Read the Crab'thulu papers

>Read the folder marked "Exploits"

These seem like the two most important ones to read, in that order, before the wizard shows up.
>>
>>42382607
Error Documentation, Crab'thulu papers are the top two for this
>writing
>>
>>42382814
"Error Documentation" sounds really relevant. It's probably important since it's the top file. The papers with Crab'thulu on them are clipped to the folder though so you figure you'll get through those first. If you find out he somehow is still alive you'll be somewhat annoyed. And excited to murder him again.

CRAB'THULU KILL CONFIRMATION

As of <nonsense numbers> we've confirmed the death(s) of Crab'thulu, the Great Eater, and have submitted the appropriate paperwork for counting coup thereof.

In keeping with industry standard practices the individual(s) majorly responsible will recieve appropriate compensation for the ordeal they undertook. All rewards are to be meted out upon next level up or rank up as is appropriate to their power mechanism.

REWARDS (in order of contribution)
SUNNIVA VISKASHA - MANTLE OF CRAB'THULU
KASHA VISKORRA - BREATH OF THE EATER
NACREMA VAINA - STARVATION RUSH
MILLY VAINA - MINOR REGENERATION

Addendum:
Due to the final acts of the slain party and appropriately filed paperwork we are required to level certain negatives upon the following individuals

SUNNIVA VISKASHA - CURSE OF CRAB'THULU

Should said subject wish to be free of negative repurcussion they can waive their right to all rewards. This should be brought up during their next level up or rank up examination.

______________________________________________________________

That last bit sounds rather ominous. You notice someone's scribbled in the sides of the paperwork.

"Can't believe someone got the crabby bastard. I was sure he was going to make full god tier."

"Can someone confirm that the contribution orders are right? My file says that the top contributor was a Tier 2 Reptilus."

"Dude, we all watched Sunny killing it in the break room on the big screen. Where were you?"

"WORKING. Which apparently makes just the one of me."

You don't remember anyone watching you, but you're appreciated.

Flipping open the "Error Documentation" folder you find a lot of nonsense numbers followed by an event. Followed by the same nonsense number and another event.

1MDVJNt0r+oE Subject attempts to kill self with magic sword (water based elemental for more details see file no. 294ABO-IWLS)
1MDVJNt0r+oE Subject refuses to let self kill self and tries to reason with them, minor injuries from attack sustained

Most of the events are accompanied by more scribbling in the margin.

"Alright, I've been getting double logging for this Reptilus all day. Can someone please see what's causing this? It's a huge pain."

You flip through to more recent entries.

27fb3j+Ac+pZ Subject was ambushed by a trapdoor spider (file no. 492.lin-442) Sustained minor injuries, resisted poison, killed spider through claw and magic knife (see file no. 294ABO-IFD)
27fb3j+Ac+pZ Subject fought a large security golem (file no. 935.crea-004) Some bludgeoning damage, largely evasive defense, destroyed golem using mundane dagger and magic sword (water based elemental for more details see file no. 294ABO-IWLS)

"Still getting time entries that are logged at the same time for this Reptilus, but at this point no one seems to care so screw it. Let someone else handle this. I just write down the events as they happen, what do I know?"

You sniff at that. Okay so you can see where the errors are coming from. You sweep the last page with your fingers. There's some crystalline stuff all around the sections where the scribbled comments are. You taste a bit and decide it's just salt. Weird. Why is it salty?

As you are about to reach for another folder the door finally opens and you have to slam the folders shut and slide them across the table. The person walking in looks fairly tired, like they've just been woken up. You're rather surprised it's a human. You'd think lizards would take care of this stuff. Maybe there's not a qualified lizard wizard. Something to look into.
[2/3]
>>
>>42383625
[3/3]
The wizard sort of reminds you of Gretchen, with her unusual, for a human, appearance. She has super long hair in a color you don't see on very many creatures, a sort of greenish black. Also she's wearing an outfit you've never seen on any other humans, and you feel you've seen plenty of humans at this point. You've seen lots of elves too even. She's wearing a really short skirt thing an it looks like something ate the material of her sleeves from her elbow to her shoulder. Her chest is at least fully covered, then doubly covered by a big red jewel looking thing in the center of a ribbon. She wears a golden diadem that disappears into her hair but is easily visible on her forehead. As wizards go the only thing wizardy about her is the staff she's carrying, a long silver number with a redcrystal on top wrapped in winding silver branches.

She appears somewhat haggard and is not happy to see you. Before sitting down she visits the coffee pot and fills a mug with the brew, then she pours in like four of the little packets that smell like sugar and slugs the whole thing. She gets a refill and sits down, leaning her staff against the table. Without speaking to you she starts browsing through the folders. After a couple minutes she finally looks up.

"So why are you in two places at once in all these records?" she asks.

"Hello, I'm Sunniva," you say politely.

The wizard blinks at you for a moment then seems to shake some mental rust off. "Uh, right. I'm Diana. I'll be your troubleshooter today." She yawns.

"So... two places at once?" she asks.

"A wizard dids it," you tell her.

"So you actually are in both places at once?" she asks. "That'd be a hell of a magic trick. I can barely do it and I mess with time."

"Well, the wizard messeds with time too," you say, nodding.

She stares at you. You think she's trying to decide if you're real or not. After a minute she gives up and speaks again. "So what did the time wizard do?"

"Let me thinks," you say, scratching your chin. "He summoneds a bunch of himselfs. Then when he didn't gets the himself he wanted he did it as a group and summoneds Nytora."

"And Nytora is?"

"My time sister," you say.

"Time sister?" Diana, appears to be slow. You'll have to explain more clearly.

"Myself, from another time, but different a bit. But stills me, so my twin, and thus my sister," you say carefully.

"A time duplicate," Diana says, rubbing the bridge of her nose, "You mean an alternate timestream version of yourself. Yeah that'd do it. I don't suppose you know if she's actually from another time or just a copy?"

"Copy."

Diana nods. "Right. I don't suppose you hate her and would like her to die?"

You shake your head. "I spents lots of money to try make sure she doesn't go poof soon."

Diana sighs. "Well, we'll just have to go see about getting the files straightened out. Please follow me."

She stands up and walks to the door, she opens it and the universe stretches out before you. A million million lights are scattered through the sky, and myriad lines carefully connect them. You notice one section where it looks like someone threw a ball through the hole thing and a magnificent mess of the carefully laid out lines. When you step out through the door you notice you're sitting in a bit of a small knot yourself. Actually looking around for a bit this looks kinda like a spider web. Ominous.

"What can I do for you dear?" a voice calls out from nearby. You look around and can't see the source of the voice, though Diana appears to see something as she speaks to it.

"I've got a lizard with a time clone wandering around, it's screwing up her evolution."

"Oh dear," the voice, you still can't see the source, say, "Would she have any relation to the lizard waiting for you in room three?"

You look at Diana and see she's doing that nose rubbing thing again. Does her nose hurt? She sighs and says she needs to go look into something.

"You," she says, pointing at you, "Stay here. Don't touch anything."

She steps away and fades into infinity. Actually, the door is gone too. Luckily you thought to bring your coffee, and the pot is even floating nearby. Convenient.

You pour yourself another cup of coffee and then look around in the direction of where the voice comes from. You're going to assume it's that clump of light over there. You wave the caraffe at it.

"Wants some?" you ask, shaking it back and forth.

"Oh, no dear. I haven't touched the stuff in years. It isn't good for the old ticker y'know, yes."

You shrug and sip at your cup. You idly consider touching a thing anyway when you notice the knot you were standing near is actually the knot you're in. It's wrapped around your foot. You try to scrape it off but just succeed in transferring feet. You narrow your eyes at it and feel your dander rising.

"So what do you dos around here?" you ask the voice, trying to ignore the fact you can't get the THING off your FOOT.

"Oh, I'm pretty much just here by momentum now. I don't do much more than keep an eye on the place and give out advice. Sorry for the decor, the last person who came through was rather strong minded and you don't particularly seem to care about these things?"

"What things?" you ask, gnawing on your foot trying to get the sticky stuff off and only managing to get it stuck to your mouth.

"Exactly. If you just leave it alone it'll leave you well enough alone. Lizards are like that, yes."

You gnaw on the ball a bit more, then stop when you hear a door open behind you. Turning, your face still firmly attached to your left foot by the sticky stuff, you look to see Diana leading Nytora in. Diana sees you and sighs while Nytora gives you a confused look.

"Uh," you grunt and pry your face free, "Little help?"

"Just leave it alone," Diana groans. "Is this your clone?"

You nod, and Nytora nods as well.

"Evolving?" you ask Nytora and she nods. You hold out a claw for a high five but find the weird knot has somehow released your foot and entangled your hand.

"So cans we rank up now?"

She blinks, "Uh. We'll run you through it again in a couple weeks. It'll be a bit while we get the paperwork sorted out for Nytora so we can keep you two seperate. Actually if you're willing you identify which of you did what in the logs that'd help us speed things along significantly. Days instead of weeks."

"We can dos that," Nytora agrees, "Or I cans. I'm not doings anything during the day but sleeping."

"Great," Diana nods.

"Wait, does she even have to go with the wizards still? This will fix her exploding problem right?"

Diana looks through some of the papers on the clipboard. "Does she haves the same exploding problem you do?"

"I means when her spell runs out."

"Oh, no that'll still be a problem. I suppose I could put in for her to be declared local but that'd require a while. About a year on the short end of things," Diana says.

"Woulds you?" She shrugs

"Thanks. So if she didn't help kills Crab'thulu does she still gets the curse cuz we were the same lizard on record?"

"No, we'll be calling her home universe to get the records for up til she was made here."

"So do you lives here?"

"What?" Diana seems surprised by the sudden turn. "No. I live in a tower in dwarven lands. It's much nicer than this!"

"Hey!" the voice cries out, offended.

"Oh you be quiet," Diana yells back, "You were talking about getting a new place the last time I came through."

"Do you haves lizard wizards working here?"

She stares at you for a moment before answering, "That's not a thing that exists."

You try to look affronted. "I ams a lizard wizard."

"You're a tailess lizard with a penchant for self-immolation. That's really not the same thing," she says flatly, "Oh look you're waking up. Bye! Stop by again for tea sometime!"

Okay the tail thing was a low blow. You're about to tell her so but think of a more important question to ask before you wake up.

"wait! What's the curse of Crab'thulu!?" you call out as everything starts to fade to black.

"It makes you eat more!" you hear faintly.

Then someone smacks you in the face with a wet fish.

You wake up spluttering, with the faint feeling you're forgetting something important. Something about... punching someone in the dwarven lands for saying something about Tail-chan... Did you dream about Tail-chan? Aw, now you're sad.

Looking around you see Milly sitting nearby. Her tail looks guilty of slapping sleeping lizards in the face. It's not even dawn yet! There's still... you wait a moment and the part of you that love the sun answers, 5 minutes before the sun starts rising properly!

You glare at Milly and she looks abashed.

"Uh, Mom is going out to find breakfast," she says, "How many tuna can you two eat?"

You turn to look at Nytora who is looking equally fish slapped. You communicate silently then shrug.

"Two? Two tuna?" Nytora suggests. Milly nods and disappears into the water.

Combat bask.

You may be thinking too hard about combat basking to properly combat bask. You're kind of forcing it.

You try and resettle yourself into the proper zen but are distraced by a shape launching out of the water. It's long, narrow and flying right at you. You realize the last part quite suddenly and dive out of the way, leaving the airborne tuna to hit Nytora. You laugh at her and then get hit by the second tuna. You choose to stay under cover of the large fish as a stream of ariborne breakfast begin flying onto the beach. After a minute the flow stops but there's now a dozen of the fat fish laying around.

Milly's Mom sweeps up alongside Milly a moment later and the two of them begin piling fish up for their own use. Milly apparently won't eat a whole fish so her mom rips one in half for her. The others are stacked up and you watch them disappear nearly whole into the squid woman's mouth. You dig into your own fish so as not to appear impolite.

While you eat you consider Milly. She's a bit bigger than she used to be but not enough to matter in a fight. Her coloration remains nearly the same but just watching her move along the beach you can tell she's much more adept on land than she was.

You let the mindless task of eating meet the mindless task of eating and try to bask again. This time you have a better hold on it and you feel the energy of the bask fill you. You immediately let it flow out to heal. The dull throb where the fish, and Milly, hit you this morning begins to fade, and your tail tingles. As you heal you find yourself becoming hungrier so you begin to eat with more vigor. Your bask still remains strong throughout and in no time the fish is gone, and looking back, you have a bit more than half a tail! It's not full length yet but its growing!

You sit back into a normal bask, pleased with yourself.

"So you can grow legs now?" you ask Milly, noting her tail has replaced the legs she had last night. She's still wearing the really long shirt that you found her in though. She probably couldn't be bothered to change it.

"I can turn my tail into legs," Milly says, demonstrating quickly. Her tail splits and turn into two fleshy pink human legs. Then the surf crashes over where she's sitting and her tail reappears. She frowns. "That happens every time. Dezzy thinks I just can't swim with human legs."

"So where's Dezzy?" you ask, noticing the absent merrow.

"He wanted a shark so Dad is taking him out to find one," Milly explains. "Then he'll probably play with his fish until I go force him to do something."

"Do you haves plans?"

"Uh, no?" She blinks. "Why?"

"I needs to swim into a deep spot and finds something called heavy water. Do you knows where it is? You cans come!" you offer.

Milly looks confused but her Mom apparently knows what you're talking about.

"Heavy Water is only really found in the deep. It can get a bit scary down there, and if you aren't built for deep water it can do nasty things to you. If you want I can run down there and get it for you. I've nothing else to do today."

Hm. Milly's mom is certainly faster than you in the water, especially with your tail problems. On the gripping claw though you did get the job yourself, shouldn't you be the one to do it?

"That would be very nice, thank you," you say, producing the bucket from your sack. You dig the stuff you put in it out and hand it over. Milly's Mom's tentacles are surprisingly deft as they pluck it from your hands.

"I'll be back here later tonight with it then," she says.

"Okay, We're goings to head into town and do some stuff. You wants anything while we're there?" you ask, packing your stuff back up again.

She thinks for a moment.

"Nuts."

"Sorry?"

"Nuts. They grow in the area but I rarely get any. They're in a shell like this," she explains, gesturing with her hands to show a shell wrapping around something in the middle. "They're just a little open. I would like a sack of those please."

"How big a sack?"

"About the size of two tuna," she suggests, pointing at the bones left from your meal. You didn't realize while you were eating but those were not small fish. Nytora is carving the meat off hers and sticking it in a cloth to keep. You probably only finished yours because you were healing while eating. You have noticed you get hungry afterwards.

"That... shouldn'ts be a problem?" you say, "I'll sees what I can find."

"That's fine," she nods.

"Milly, you want to come to town when you aren't drugged?"

She nods vigorously.

That's that then.

>I'm stopping here for the night. Next time we'll finally get a proper swinging weapon, hopefully.

Correct. Her mom was cool about it. She supports Milly's interests. Dezzy she's less enthused about.
>>
>>42388313
Is she opposed to Dezzy's evo because skeletons spook her, or just because, being a kraken-type thing, she's opposed to having bones altogether?

Huh I figured we were from further north up the coast.
>>
>>42388441
Maybe a bit more of a spoiler? Crab'thulu could do a lot. I kinda figured that's where the swamp was, maybe a little more west.

>>42388483

>>42388498
I'd maybe make the swamp a bit larger, but other than that it looks good boss.

Also the mantle sounds really sweet now. I hope Nytora gets something just as cool.
>>
>>42388057
>tuesday

so today?

also WHY U DELAY EVOLUTION!?
>>
>>42388498
For a desert to pop up that fast, you've got to have a heck of a mountain range between the forest/swamp and that desert, we're talking Andes style. Although I'd expect snow up there too.

>>42388616
We could've evolved today, it just would've meant either killing Nytora, or having some horrific outcome where we likely partially merge or pull each others evos or some bizzaro stuff.
