Previously on HIVE MIND. It's a bugs life.

We found ourselves lifted from our home and placed into a dormant state until a collector, (Our lemmings) formed a new Queen.

We've explored the swamp to our east and have gained traits of it's denizens, increasing our ability to swim and hide in swamps.

We moved on to the north, finding a forest full of rabbits-not rabbits that climb trees along with birds.
To our west there is a freshwater lake, alongside yellow trees and strange ass fruit. Close by to the west, between us and this lake we have built a farm (Currently being improved to MK II)

To the far north there seems to be another insect colony. They attacked our scouts.

New thread, new hope.

seams our workers are busy. lets send our scouts to look for creatures with useful traits. as well as any useful plants that might be good to try and farm for food. also lets let them know to look for very tiny stuff such as insects too. because stuff does not need to be big to have useful tricks. if they find any particularly good ones and can capture them alive with out risk to themselfs. they should probably do so. plus foraging a wide assortment of interesting plants would be nice because then we could test them to see which produces the best yield in food production.
so basically a "lets find interesting and probably small stuff and haul it home for study and experimentation" exploration mission.

and lets send a small number of our scouts and some of our warriors to go investigate that shiney object. it could be useful or interesting. but it might also be dangerous and we should be prepared for that if we can be.

if the brood eats 225 Food per turn
and if we have 1260 Critters
and if 1 critter = 1 food
and if we have +100 food/turn with a nat 20 bonus of +20 food/turn
then we lose 225 food but gain 120
so our net loss is 105 per turn.
meaning we really have closer to 12 turns of food available i think?..

The Queen demands her den be expanded. We obey! All 150 of our free collectors scatter forth into the den, digging down and expanding rooms for eggs, ventilation and incubation. They secrete a resin that strengthens the walls and creates nest like structures for the eggs to safely rest. This nesting provides natural heat. (Queens Den is currently constructing an upgrade.)

The scouts take flight! Heading off in all directions to search for new prey and suitable vegetation, They find several creatures who hold chitin like we, unlike us they seem to be able to lift some segments and create natural spikes along their bodies. We bring some of them back. Several types of vegetation food stuffs are brought back, not tested however. (Give to those constructing the farm? Y/N)

We also find a multitude of black and glowing blue rocks in the swamp, these were brought back also.

We can manipulate the rabbits to preform simple commands. It's rudimentary and their needs must be sated before they do so, though it is a step. Lesser Mind Control will be implemented next turn.

The vegetables are given to the collectors working on the farm. This will speed up their work!

With the hive restless the Queen orders 20 of our collectors to look through the collected materials, to study them, test them and work with them. Learning as they go along while using the memory storage between one another. This works very well as they quickly pick up the needed actions for fully testing and experimenting with new found things.

>20 Collectors have converted to Scholars
>Collector -Scholar- Eggs are now available to be lain

The Queen speaks to us and we feel delighted. The Queen commands us and we feel purpose flow throughout our forms. The Queen praises us and we feel joy! Singular... individual joy. No longer shall we live with our joy being sent through thought. We want to understand one another to our cores! We are the hive, we are the colony and we shall improve. The Queen agrees. The Queen twists the Hive Mind, WE twist the Hive Mind. We manipulate ourselves, each others minds with no security, complete and utter trust. Formed by family. It stings, it hurts but we know each other now, our joy is multiplied by our family heart. A link that holds us all together, our fear is shared, our trust is sacred and our bond is rich in glory!

send a team of our warriors and a couple scouts to ambush some of the far northern bugs.
the scout lures a small group of them into a hidden group of warriors who will defeat them. and try to take a few alive, breaking their limbs off if needed to keep them from being able to fight back. so we can take them back to our hive for study as well as get vengeance upon them for the scouts they killed earlier.

try to enhance our mind control abilitys on the rabbits to the point we can "hunt" simple minded creates by lieing to them and convincing them we mean no harm and that they should not fear us. this way we can manage a herd of them and take them out grazing with out risk of them running from us. and if we want to kill one for food we simply take it away from the others. perhaps we should learn how to erase or alter memory's. and use our existing mind reading to learn what to erase or alter and then just use our existing control method to write in new thoughts after we learn to erase those that already reside there?

yeah two is plenty. besides. if things go right our troops will have their captives and be running away before the others can catch up.

adding the Drones will be great though since instead of trying to run out of range we can just cut the enemy's hivemind connection off the instant we spring the ambush which will likely leave our enemy's even more surprised.

to top it off if we can keep our drones out of sight and hidden properly and if we kill or capture all the enemy's our scout lured into the trap before they can escape or re-establish connection. then all the enemy hive mind will know is "suddenly these guys just -vanish- or -lose connection- and we never found them again." so we might be able to interrogate the captives while keeping the enemy from learning anything about our units aside from "this one time some of our brood chased a small number of their scouts away from our nest like they did the last time but then the ones chasing the scouts vanished and never came back"

The Queen demands we destroy a portion of the northern bugs. Instantly we make preparations, taking our 20 agile warriors and 50 of our strong chitin covered warriors. 25 of our scouts and 2 drones to test their abilities.

We head to the east, to use the swamp to our advantage. We have mastered this place, any who enter here, enter death. We go to the northern portion of the swamp, warriors and drones sinking somewhat into the water in wait. The scouts fly on ahead, purposely getting seen by the enemy. We find that the drones allow for a strong connection to all members of the group, thoughts and feelings much more clear than when portions of us are separated from the main hivemind.

The scouts preform their job almost flawlessly, bringing attention and fleeing at first chance back into the swamp, we wait for their workers to follow and they do. Our scouts duck low over the swamp, leading the enemy down perfectly into our trap. The drones send images and endless thoughts cascading in the air, mentally stunning the enemy, our warriors use this chance to jump and start the slaughter. Our scouts double back, using their agility in the air to break the enemies wings, capturing those alive while the rest are butchered. Overall the operation was completed with no casualties from our side.

+35 Black Bug Corpses (Do you wish to use these as a food source? Y/N)
+15 Black Bug Prisoners (Wings slashed)

Additionally, the Queen begins on researching our mind control and animal husbandry, aiming to perfect communication with simple minded creatures. The 20 scholars jump on this chance, researching with her. Another 30 collectors join in. (Speak With Simple Animals is in development)

>Got way too sidetracked playing Mass Errect 2

The Queen calls for the prisoners to be lead into her Den, under the watchful eye of many guards. Naturally. There she uses her mind control skills, little as they may be to slowly weaken their defences. At first they answer nothing, but after being persuaded by food and the threat of a darker future they quickly crumble. It seems that they are not as developed as us. They have no... warriors to speak of, nor any scouts. They are just workers, every last one of them. The only thing of note within their colony is the lead worker. Like our Queen but indefinitely less intelligent. Only strong with brute force. It seems these mate with one another, rather than relying on a Queen to produce eggs. We take them back to the pit.

We devour the corpses of our enemy, taking in their form and attempting to shift ourselves under the Queens guidance. This doesn't work, although we feel an understanding of how these... wing protections should function. Perhaps if we captured and devoured more of this organic material we could shift.

i'd like to avoid using tools as much as possible as we dont have hands (yet).
lets make some armored warriors instead, like that digger caste someone suggested earlier (big powerful mantis-like front limbs, no wings).

perhaps we can convert their hive (en mass or gradually in waves) to ours with some WOLOLO from our psyker drones and queen
>>
The Queen sees that our numbers are rising, she is pleased but our nesting area is becoming full! She demands we improve and expand the nest, we obey with speed. Once more our collectors skitter, collecting dirt and stone from the north, east and west. (Nesting Area is UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

>No hands, no ranged weapons unless you attempt mutation, or the creation of new insect or sub-insect. Like the agile warriors and tanky warriors. (Acid spit, Limbs to snapshot stones at high speed, ect ect.)

Jihadi porcupine bugs?

I can get behind this.
>>
The Queen sends scout to gather a large amount of those small spiky bugs. Carry them to the colony and stockpile them for a new evolution.

This goes rather well, the scouts bring back hundreds of them. (This will not be a colony wide evolution. Choose a type or subtype that we already have to evolve this new ability)
>>
>>42401755
make them from strong chitin warriors. about a quarter of them
>>
btw are we not laying eggs?
>>
>>42401872
The Nest is being expanded, we should probably wait until that is finished and we have some new bug types before laying more.
>>
>>42401924
we should always be laying eggs if possible. gotta get that snowball effect
>>
>>42401755

Let's give this to the strong chitin warriors, pretty much making them a juggernaut class.
>>
>>42401965
If we had plenty of food in the area to spare, I'd agree. However, we should watch our pop' until we get a more substantial income of food.
>>
>>42402007

I mean, we have a farm providing us a base income of food every turn. A farm that is in the process of being upgraded further. And we have a cultural bonus that promotes competitive hunting. I'd say we have a pretty nice level of food income at the moment.
>>
>>42402007
>>42402035
is the farm really being upgraded? i dont see it in the latest stats posts. either way let's expand the farm more and assign some more workers to it

also build an irrigation network to boost production.
>>
The evolution takes some devouring but eventually 25 of our strong chitin warriors are filled, turning this into the evolution gel before the Queen commands their bodies to shift to her command. Several hours of screaming, clawing and comfort giving the new warriors rise, the strong chitin now able to spike up into a defensive stance. Any enemy will find melee combat with these members of our colony to be less than advantageous.

>Improve tech:Memory Erasal\forced forgetting.
>improve Tech: Mind reading (Read more thoughts more clearly more quickly and with more penetration of mental resistance.)

if we train Delete + Read + Write enoguh over a telepathic connection, particularly on these beings we have. then we basically have all the psionics tools we need to reprogram something to serve us. (though it may take repeated brainwashing sessions to make it stick and deeper mastery of the techniques to make it permenant.)
basically read their mind to find out why they resist or do not obay. delete those thoughts. then write in brainwashing or memorys that make them want to Obey the hive and the queen.

because when you can find information you wana find. delete it. and write something else where it was, you pretty much can reprogram it.

if we attack lets make sure we send our spikey warriors. and instead of just massacuring everything lets beat down the enemy's leader and haul it back to have its traits stolen.
>>
>>42402481

I'm going to parrot that one anon's idea from earlier of sending a token force of our strong chitin infantry in a full-frontal assault as a feint, while we maneuver our 100+ agile swamp warriors up the eastern river right to the base of the mountain.

The enemy hive comes out to meet the force that is appearing to be laying siege directly, then the warriors hidden in the river spring the trap and attack from the flank.
>>
>>42402379
if we level memory erasal enough we might be able to make our scouts be able to make singular enemys forget seeing them constantly and in real-time within a certain range basically giving them invisibility against a single opponent. or silencing another unit before it can raise an alarm so they could make better spys.

if we increase mindreading enough. our forces might be able to see exactly what moves our foe plans on making and dodge them as\before they happen since they can learn to see it all coming.

if we master mind writing\mind control. we might be able to force thoughts and actions into other beings heads to make them do what we want. and potentially make brainwashing longer and longer lasting until with enough brainwashing we completely overwrite what ever was there originally and replace it permanently with what we want its behavior to be.

The Queen demands our food be even greater than as is. Recall humans using water around crops. She takes great interest in that and commands groups of collectors to head out into the fields, using the lake to cause water to flow to our crops. Dangerous she says, we shall be careful in this undertaking. 100 Collectors head off. (Irrigated Farmland is UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

The Queen while continuing her work with the rabbits commands more collectors to gather many more rabbits. She plans to improve our ability to feel the emotions and images flashing through these creatures. Strange, though we obey. Having scouts to gather them before our collectors start research. (Detailed Mind Reading, Is in development)

Assign Managers to help keep the hive operating more efficiently. we could try to make 1 or more of our drones command forces the queen does not assign to a job. so unassigned collectors could work to improve farmland\the hive's living space and the queens nest area.. or some of our unassigned warriors and scouts could go hunt in the lake.

or unassigned scholars could try new and interesting things and attempt to help with developments.

also if we hunt in the lake lets try to eat the top predators in that area first. the smaller creatures that breed faster will have greater numbers of population for us to eat if we eat what eats them since then there will be less stuff other then us hunting them.

we are -masters- of that lake. the food in it should be ours. not just left to the beasts. lets turn the pests in our domain into food but let the faster breeding herbivores live for now. by hunting all their predators their numbers should increese to large numbers over time and then our warriors and perhaps scouts can fill the space of the new top predators in the lake to provide us with food frequently using it as a permanent hunting ground.
