Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
The Goldroad had always been peaceful along the way to King’s Landing, though you hadn’t traveled it in quite some time with the intent of caring. Goldsong cantered along at the head of your party, and an odd party it was. Ser Mason and your Uncle Dontos had both elected to stay behind in Steadhold, leaving your retinue to be comprised of the Sons of Gold, Maester Benjin, and an escort of The Loyal Bows. Of them only Benjin, Ser Haigh and his squire Lorry seemed at place by your side. Solhas Za Tarbeck and Barq Zos rode directly behind you, and Illiad rode next to you his blue hair and golden moustache making him look more a Braavo than Myrish. The few travelers you had pasted along the way no doubt thought you a merchant prince from the Free Cities. Another few had attached themselves to your party; peddlers, smallfolk, the normal fare that enjoyed the protection of nobility and you fairly didn’t mind them trailing along in the baggage train. So long as they stayed far away from your own possessions.

Having settled upon bringing a few gifts for Lord Ardrian Celtigar and his family, they traveled along in a guarded caravan near the back A young warhorse of fine breeding, as provided by Gawen, and a particularly odd bolt of silk you had gathered in your time in Volantis. The man who paid you with it insisted it was from Yi Ti and was of such rarity as to be twice the worth of Myrish lace, something Illiad still disputed to this day. And you yourself had when after relieving him of his silk you demanded the coin promised in your contract as well. In truth you had never seen anything like it before and held onto it should you ever need to woo a particularly fanciful lady of Essos. A strange twist of fate that it should now find its way to the Lady Celtigar upon Westeros.
>>
Yeah!
>>
“Milord?” a meek voice wakes you from your idle thoughts, you look around and then spy a dark set of hair jogging alongside you, Lorry.

“Yes squire?” you ask, attempting to keep your voice in that of a Lord, it was an odd transition, the Sons always insisted you spoke better than most, but even they had recognized your shift in tone and word upon arrival. Dontos and Benjin had insisted, the latter being sure to teach you the etiquette of the Seven Kingdoms during his lessons.

Keeping his eyes fixed to the ground attempting not to trip as he spoke Lorry begins, “Milord, Ser Victor would like word with you. He says there is someone he would like you to meet, if it would please milord.”

Mystery man

>question Lorry.

Who is this mystery man? Had he any emblems or symbols signifying his house?
>>

>>Meet with Ser Victor Haigh and his mysterious man
>>
Lorry seemed a good enough lad, his moniker of ‘the Little’ stood true though, slim of feature and build he hardly seemed the type to wish to become a Knight. Perhaps fanciful dream, product of a childhood passerbyer in his youth in The Neck. Whatever the case he and Victor had been getting along famously, a thought that well pleased you. Victor always had this youthful whimsy about him, a smile dancing upon his lips, a woman upon his lap. Hardly a year younger than you he seemed more a younger brother or friend grown when you interacted in Essos. Speaking of the Riverlands, of youthful rebellion, the love for adventure. He was more your brother than Pastorn ever felt, though in fairness you hadn’t known your younger brother much before your flight.

Turning thought again to Lorry you ask him, “Squire. Who is this mystery man? Does he wear an insignia? Colors of a House perhaps?”

For his part Lorry meets your gaze, the brisk jog seemingly having little effect on him, “No Milord. None that we know. His shield is beaten but it looks like there is a green fish on it. Ser Victor thinks he might be from the Riverlands. He looks older than Ser Dontos, milord”

A shield? Perhaps a knight, more like a Hedge Knight though, a green fish didn’t sound familiar to you at least. Seeking service into a House no doubt. Odd that he would travel along the Goldroad though, a man seeking service would more likely find it in King’s Landing. You chew the thought over a bit, you had sent no summons for Hedge Knights to come to your service knowing your rom so little, but your group of three would need a boost at some point.

You rack your brain for a moment further, the coat of arms were as unfamiliar to you as Ser Mason’s garnet cockerel was to any other among the Crownlands and likely his home in the Reach after so many years. A meeting cost you little, and you were still a few days from King’s Landing, breaking the monotony of riding alone seemed a pleasant thought. And you were hardly one to be so rude as to dismiss a simple request, Lorry and Mors were tribute to that fact alone. “Bring Ser Victor and this Green Fish Knight to me squire, I would hear what Ser Victor has to say.”

“Yes milord, right away,” Lorry responds and breaks to the left quickly back down the train to where Victor rode by your caravan. Illiad watches him as he goes stroking his fu manchu in a thoughtful manner and speaking in a tongue you did not recognize, but likely a private word to himself. Perhaps thoughts of his young brother had continued to plague him. Ever since making his request of you he had been nervous, not of you upholding your end of the bargain, but of the idea of returning home to Myr and finally saving his younger brother. He had spoken to you a few times of it since, his brother looked almost exactly like him, but far shorter, with the eyes of his mother, he had only mentioned his naming in passing, Illion.
>>
“My Lord. Brynden!” Victor’s voice rings out, followed by a laugh. You turn your head to regard him and find his golden courser riding up to your Goldsong quickly, matching your pace. He waves to a man on a brown palfrey that follows after in a much slower manner. He did look older than Dontos, though not by much. A slight grey in his hair gave the appearance of salt and pepper and his skin was still with youth, his eyes a brilliant green gave away his true age. Though not his wealth, that is what his ragged horse and beat up armor did. A Knight no doubt in true, but certainly a Hedge Knight.

The Green Fish Knight rides up alongside Ser Victor, placing him into between the two of your and regards you with a simple nod, “My Lord. Thank you for seeing me. Your Ser Victor has spoken highly of you. My name is Ser Duncan Ureye”

You nod in return and think upon a thought for a moment. A Hedge Knight in truth, you wondered his intent.

>Ask Ser Duncan about himself
>Ask Ser Duncan what brings him to travel along the Goldroad
>Ask Ser Duncan about something else (Specific?)
>>
>>42418876
Indeed you are not. Ser Dontos, Ser Victor and Ser Mason make up your three Knights. Of the 25 you're allowed, mind.
>>
>>42419046

I see we need to get 7 wealth to buy free Illads brother. Gotta work on that.
>>
Ser Victor has focused along the road again, a certain seriousness playing along with the laugh, but his eyes focused and ready. He falls back a mite, and Illiad keeps pace with them, their collective watchfulness meaning you may relax and speak with Ser Duncan with more ease. “Tell me Ser Duncan. What brings you to travel along the Goldroad?”

“In truth my Lord. A call for Hedge Knights and swords in need of swearing to a land south of your own,” Ser Duncan says, spitting out a brown lump on the side opposite of you, you note the tobacco pouched in his lower lip. A poor habit, but not one you could deny a traveling man. He continues, “Lord Royce. I believe his name was. Some young bloke with a head of fire as ripe the red hair upon his head, I tell ya.”

Well there was news that sent worry, It would seem the bastard Redward was gathering an army. On the very cusp of your land, it was a thought you ill liked, “An interesting thing to hear Ser. And why do you now travel east?”
>>
“I found myself with a certain… Dislike of the man,” he responds carefully, noting his words with chews, “I was among criminals and scum. Hedge Knights have ill reputation as it begins my Lord. I had no desire to dishonor myself with their kind. Though a score of others, a few I traveled with, had other ideas it would seem. If the coin is gold enough I suppose. But now I find myself traveling back to King’s Landing. I hear there’s a Tourney to be held there in a few months. Hope to latch onto one of the Lords there meself.”

His manner of speak was odd, he used the courtesies of a one with learning, but the common slang of your smallfolk, where he came from eluded you. He kept his pace with you still, eyes narrowed and to the brush, his palfrey looked ragged and tired along the proud might of Goldsong.

>Ask Ser Duncan of himself (Specifics?)

Where are you from sir? You speak as if learned yet use slang of commoners. An intriguing riddle.

How long has he been an Hedge Knight.
Does he like the lifestyle?
Where does he hail from.
What are his strong points, if he has any.
Propose to loan him a horse for the tournament if he agrees to speak highly of our housse wherever he goes, maybe sweeten the pot with room and shit like the Celtigar son.
Stories, lots of stories. Shits we saw in Essos and shits he's seen riding around.
Don't promise a knighthood outright, but hint enough..
>>
>>42419483
It was more Brynden trying to act more like a lord as his uncle and measter wanted him to. But hey your idea is just as good.
>>
>>42419545
A more lordly way of saying it is fine, I just think it's best to avoid calling him a peasant.
>>
For all the good your mind is worth today you had might as well sell it to some sorcerer in Essos, let them burn it in a pit and speak dark incantations, his manner of speak eluded you to such a point that it bothered you enough to ask, “Ser, might I ask. You speak as if learned, yet use word of the common folk and practices as well. And though try as I might, I cannot place your origin.”

Ser Duncan laughs a deep bellowing laugh, the man had a sense of humor at least, “My Lord. I was born in a holdfast south of the God’s Eye, by the name of Briarwhite. A small castle of little lands, my father was a cook in the kitchens,” he spits out the rest of his tobacco clearing his mouth with a follow up, “I was so lucky as to befriend the youngest boy of the Knightly family, rather than pick corn in the fields with me pap. We rode together, their septon taught us letters and numbers and upon a day I was Knighted for saving him from a brown bear as we were fishing in the God’s Eye. His father being so grateful as it were.”

“The green fish then?”

“The last fish he had caught before the bear was upon us. I would suppose we stole his dinner my Lord,” he laughs again.

“And why did you leave the service of this young Knight’s family?”
>>
“I did not my Lord. We traveled together for some odd eight years, fought in the Rebellion a few years past, alongside the side of the Targaryens. Though with little luck. My old friend found his death upon the Trident. And being unable to confront his father after, I left, to a life of a Hedge Knight.”

Another touched by the death and destruction of the Rebellion, though solemn in tone it did not seem to define the man, he was still a Knight, regards of his low birth. “Ser I am sorry for your loss. I share in your pain in the loss of a brother or one of that in arms.”

“I thank you my Lord. It is an ill thought. I had heard family’s of the Crownlands suffered as much. In truth. I had mistaken the Lord Royce for your own home. I had heard of a horse lord in the south. But his is of red, not gold like your own. A mistake I regret my Lord.”
>>
You continue your chat with the man for the better part of the afternoon, he speaks of his travels up and down from the God’s Eye to as far south as Highgarden. Selling his services with his late friend, fighting in minor House skirmishes, saving a damsel. You tell him of your time in Essos, explain the differences between your House and that of the Redwards and forgive his past mistake, an easy one to make from those unaware of your House’s fate. Of late of evening, he begs leave to return to his squire, that he had left with Lorry, and Ser Victor has gone off to his post again, leaving you alone with Illiad and the two Summer Islanders. A few thoughts stirred in your mind. He seemed a good man, seasoned, his exploits spoken of his prowess with a sword, though his armor and shield spoke of a different sort. Still another Knight in your services hurt you little, if you so wished to ask it was unlikely he would say no. But what further thought was that of the red bastard to the south. That he was gathering an army and being so careless as to high blatant sellswords, criminals and their ilk was unnerving. It would also explain your unmarked raiders in the northern forest, if you could only get the man to break.

King’s Landing was only a half day's travel away now and you decided to break for camp for the night, Those behind you thankful for the break as camp began to build you looked about your men. They seemed happy enough, not broken like when you had initially approached Steadhold two months prior. You could speak with a few if you so desired.

>>
The Sons of Gold were halved for this trip; Victor, Illiad, Solhas and Barq Zos, among 6 others, traveled with you, while the rest stayed in Steadhold under Ser Mason’s command. He had argued with you to take them all, but you knew it best to at least a few of your better men at home. Should anyone decide to get antsy southwards. They were making camp and tending to their horses as the often did, nine men of Essos and one of the Riverlands. A strange cadre of men had you ever seen one, each of various homes, though mostly Myr. Illiad and your two Summer Islanders sit around a fire, cooking some sort of game, and playing dice as they usually did. Illiad spoke the Summer Tongue with such ease it left you in the dust, though Barq was thankful for it, being of little Common Tongue.

You sit among them and take an offered drink from Solhas, as Illiad shifts into translating for you, “Lord, Barq Zos says your lands are cold. And lack in… Women. Your House is so bare of them he thinks you a fondness for men.”

Solhas and Barq burst into laughter a moment later as the former tells his countryman of Illiad’s words, “Barq Zos should be well aware of my fondness for the fairer sex Illiad. His sister in Volantis would testify to that.”

Now Solhas and Illiad laugh alongside you, as Barq Zos grumbles in his tongue, you had met him after a trapeze in a brothel upon your only trip to Volantis, apparently you had had relations with his sister and he, being the protector he was, came after you. Solhas and Illiad had talked him down that day, and later on he would sign onto the Second Sons at his sister’s desire, speaking to put aim to his foolhardy rage. He spoke of her rarely and would occasionally send gold and letters to her in Volantis, he loved her though, you knew that to be truth.

“Illiad. How are the Sons doing? Adjusting well to Westeros?”
>>
Solhas speaks over Illiad as he explains to Barq your word, “They seem well another my Lord. Surprised in truth, many thought you were lying when you said we were going to live in a castle. They are happier for the finer food and bed though.”

“And of yourselves?”

He grunts, Illiad continuing, “Cold, like Barq says, though everywhere not Essos feels cold. I believe there is good hunting here. Should you ever wish I would likely be able to pull some game from these dark forests.”

“Lord, Barq says he is fond of your home. Happy as it were, but that the men do require more life. Whether your castle, or of your town. But you are Lord. These decisions are your own,”

“..and?”

“And myself Lord? I am content to serve as always. Your Benjin, he speaks well. I have been learning more common from him. And I in turn speak of Myr to him and Victus. I would be able to teach many Lord. If they so wished.”

So the Sons were happy but wished for a more lively world, you could hardly blame them, the night raid you had conducted was their only action since coming to Westeros, and the Outer Ring was a shell of itself. You had forbade them from taking any of the women within the Household, unless they so desired your men, and the Outer Ring was still a burnt out husk. No brothel of tavern to speak of, a poor sight for a town with a former port. But were you that Lord? Care more for the happiness of your men? Or that of your own appearances? Rebuilding things with priority would be coming soon, but of what?
>>
You eat with them, and speak of the coming trip, and soon turn in for the night. Sleep being heavy upon your eyes. The rest of the journey to King’s Landing the following day was quick, many of your followers having dispersed as you approached. Ser Duncan still spoke with Victor though in the rear. You enter the city and continue along your way, Ser Wilson was likely here but you would need to send word to find him and likely have to wait the day to be ready to travel. Sending a man off to ask word you settle into a slow walk, not entirely sure of what you planned.

>Attempt to find Ser Wilson Celtigar yourself, traveling to the docks?
>Perhaps speak with Ser Duncan and offer him a place among your men?
>Or travel elsewhere. A tavern or brothel perhaps, maybe even your villa?

I'd suggest offering to let Duncan stay with us until the tourney, certainly cheaper than an inn right? And we can judge his skill as he trains.

When Illiad elects to go hunting he should take some of the men with him to give them something to do.
>>
>>42420631
Oh and an informal policy when they hunt of sharing some of the bounty with local peasants, endearing them to the smallfolk and giving a good opportunity for them to deal with their women troubles, because impressive foreigners that work for the lord and are giving out free food are Desireable Gentlemen
>>
Ser Duncan seemed a fair type, not that he would look particularly out of place among your men. Many Lords disliked low born Hedge Knights, they had an ill reputation that was truth, but one that would disregard the sworn enemy of your House? Well he had at least that much honor about him. Mors had bide you farewell upon entry to the city, and the Loyal Bows began to make their trip back home to Steadhold. They would likely escort you on the return, but you would be gone for the better part of the mouth and few liked the idea of stayed in your family’s villa while you were away. The rest of your men scattered a bit, promising to meet with you upon word of Ser Wilson, elsewise in the morning upon the docks. Maester Benjin, upon his grand donkey, and Solhas had stayed with you, though they did not fear an attack they found it best.

“Solhas, where did Ser Victor get off to?”

“He said something of a tavern near the other side of the city my Lord. Lorry and Ser Duncan went with it would seem.”

“Let us find them then, my stomach could use for food, and I would have word with Ser Duncan.”

Maester Benjin speaks up following after, “Another sword for our House my Lord?”

“I might think so Benjin. He fought for the Targaryens and denied himself to the Redwards. At the very least I may offer him a place until the Tourney,” you say watching as the passerbyers retreat from your horses.
>>
>>42420827
Nice idea.

We could encourage traveling fairs in our lands. Good way to get news from abroad, entertain the small folk and find people skilled in peculiar ways.
>>
Hey sweet more House Malroy
>>
You find the two knights with little problem, spying them across a loud tavern. Ser Victor is flirting rather handsily with the serving girl, and Lorry with the other squire look on embarrassed at what you can only assume are a fair share of poor jokes. Hardly a place for a Lord, or Maester, Benjin begs leave and Solhas escorts him to the villa, as he had wished to see it before your departure. You take up a seat amongst the knights, order another round of drinks and of some soup and bread.

“You ask of my tongue my Lord. But yet you eat like a commoner yourself,” Ser Duncan says as your food comes, eyeing the redhead as she leaves.

“A product of my youth Ser. I had grown up a second son in King’s Landing. A Knight more than, no less. I ate with those that served me in Essos, and the finest of foods were as much a treat to me as they are to my men,” you reply breaking the bread with Lorry who shares his half with the other squire.

Victor laughs and pulls the serving girl to his lap, her giggles interrupting your talk, he had a way with words that man, no doubt he would be staying here the night now. “My Lord. If I may be so bold, might I ask why you seeked our company? Surely a Lord had better places to be than a tavern with two hedge Knights and their squires?”

Lorry and Duncan’s squire were laughing to one another as children often do, boys only slightly older than your own. Ser Victor in his distraction paid you little mind, knowing you were use to such actions. This allowed you a moment to speak with Ser Duncan, an odd place to ask service of a man, but not one outlandish for a Hedge Knight you thought. Shoveling a bit of the soup on your break you munch and then regard him again with a fuller stomach, happier for it.

“Ser Duncan I might ask of you to swear service to my House,” you say and he eyes you with a certain light “If nothing more than until the Tourney, where you may leave should you desire.”

“Finishing his own bite he thinks for a moment, “My Lord you do me a great honor. I would be pleased to join your services. Ser Victor spoke of your trip to Crab Isle, if you would allow me join you, I would show you my, and my squires worth.”

You nod along and he finishes reaching out for a handshake, one you take in earnest, and he smiles happily, his squire looks up at him having taken an interest in your conversation and is met with the same smile. Another man, though your House may feel low it still commanded the respect of those that have seen the wanton destruction of the lands you once called home. Ser Duncan would make an excellent addition to the Household you think, and Dontos would be happy to have another Knight to spar with. You finish your meal speaking further of Steadhold, and your trip to Crab Isle, Ser Duncan begs leave to find an armorer to make himself look more presentable for the morrow, and Ser Victor takes your side promising to return for supper to the young lady, as escort as you travel into the city once more.
>>
Having a lunch with the two knights made you feel of your youth again, surrounded by the squires and friends of the knight you squired for. There was a fondness of that memory before your flight and you held it dear. Though now a Lord you did not wish to forget what made you the man you are. There was still a moment’s time and your messenger had not found you with word of Ser Wilson so you strolled along Goldsong into the market district.

Sounds like a good excuse to have our villages train their own little private millita forces for their own protection and policing when we and ours arnt around.

Oh look, we could draft all these village millita men in an emergancy, but their not part of our standing army. Its nice to have all these trainned men around...

>when there's a confirmed chance at HDW
Hell nah man, we have a chance people dream about

Unrelated, but I feel like we should cultivate an image of a playboy. Build brothels, upgrade them to pleasure houses, make perfume, sell luxury goods. People will assume that we are spoiled by our life in the west, while we build spy networks and train assassins. Getting our own gypsies would help the assassins move unnoticed, and hide the skilled people we are importing.

Basically make our lands a medieval Las Vegas

Train them in spears in case of the land being invaded and have an oath of service for protection.

They are already doing that since they are our levy.

Not exactly. The levy is conscripts drawn from everyone, this would make a group of semi trained soldiers to draw from instead, who while in peace time did their job as civilian defense vs petty bandits, theft and crime while also costing much less upkeep than the current standard system of employing knights who control lands under us, since each millita would be paid for out of their local towns pocket, maybe subsidized by us if we want to improve them at a later date.

First off as already mentioned the crown lands are not the riverlands, but beyond that as a valyrian house the celtigars are pretty high up there in the non-boring scale. Plain old andals < first men < dorne or valyrians depending on taste < valyrians or dorne

Ironborn completely off the chart, most boring possible people

Is it? My geography is a bit dated, haven't read the books in a while.

The main problem I see is the lack of useful resources on our lands. With the forest we just gained control of, we should be able to provide timber, but that's not the most profitable venture. Getting the beehives, mead, herbs, perfumes, and brothels seem like an easy way to get wealth(which we need desperately) with only what we have at hand.
>>
we just need to pray for a BISEXUAL HDW so she just takes female lovers that we can share

We got some of the best horse breed in the kingdom. That is what we should focus on. All this talk about thieves and spies is not really that useful since Brynden has very little experience with it. He is a warrior/leader type and turning our land into a den of scum and villainy is really a bad way of going on it.

Your traveling clothes were more akin to your sellsword garb, and made you blend into the crowd a mite easier than if you were wearing the fanciful garb of your brother or as other lords. But if you were to show up to Lord Celtigar’s castle in such, you would be looked upon as a mercenary captain at worst and a merchant prince at best. You decide to find something more suitable to wear, and not the clothing of your dead brother to boot. Settling on a seamstress in the market district you explain the colors of your House deny the need for a cape or mantle, being happy with the scale cloak of black you already used and then stood about for the better part of an afternoon with many choices of colors that looked similar to you, and clothing items you did not need. Your boots and gloves would stay, they were of exceptional build as it was and they gave the appearance of a man that knew to ride a horse, something you particularly loved. But the rest would be finished upon the morrow, and delivered to your villa. Having no other place to have them taken to.

The seamstress was a puffy older woman, that while rough in her matter was delicate with her hands, but you found most of the measurements and work being done by a young girl you only imagined could be her daughter. She shied away from speaking to you outside of milords and simple words, and would smile with a slight gap when you regard her with question. Her hands fleeted about you carefully, taking extra care to not linger too long on the more delicate parts, though her eyes often did. When asked to remove your upper clothing, she had grown a fair share redder and left the room for a moment to gather something for her mother.
>>
Ser Victor, watched this all occur and cut japes at you away from her ears and would often laugh at her poor attempts to hide interest, Lorry for his part seemed uninterested but amused all the same. Though he did leave the room for a moment when your messenger came by the doorway, likely having word of Ser Wilson. You pay the woman and give her directions to the villa, and step out of the room, her daughter’s eyes trailing you along the way. Victor bursts into hysterics when you finally reach outside again, “You could have fucked her in front of the Mother herself and she would not know shame Brynden. By the bloody Seven, tell me you saw that.”

You roll your eyes at the man, in truth it had been awhile since you had, watered the stallion, as it were. And she had a certain softness to her you enjoyed, her hips and behind being attractive enough as she hurried away many times. Her chest bounced slightly with every movement and showed much when she was on her knees measuring your inseam... Coughing and focusing you ask Lorry what the messenger had said, washing your thoughts.

As oblivious as a child he begins, “He says milord to meet Ser Wilson at the Brazon Wing, a tavern in the upper district of the city. Ser Wilson seems to intend to stay night there, his crew readying themselves for the morning.”

Ah good, an alternative should you wish to not stay at the villa. Though odd that Ser Wilson would not stay at his own. You mounted Goldsong and thought for a moment. No doubt Ser Wilson would be waiting for you but no rush either.

>See what Maester Benjin was up to at the villa first?

“Thank you Lorry, Ser Victor, would you find the Maester and Solhas. Allow Illiad and the rest of the Sons to their games tonight but we will treat with Ser Wilson in the Brazon Wing.”

“Of course my Lord. We will meet you there within the hour.”

You head off to the upper district alone, perhaps a moment alone with Ser Wilson will shed some light on what exactly his Lord father had planned for your visit. And though you attempted to keep your mind on track and the serious business at hand you kept finding it dancing back to your conquests in Essos, your trapezes with various women of tongue and skin. To the look Elionwy gave you your first night in Westeros, or the mad blushes of the seamstresses daughter a moment ago. To thoughts of Lysa, to youth ignorant love, of want to a future. And Maester Benjin’s words coming last, of the young Lady Helena Celtigar, and how you might woo her, or charm her father into believing you a suitable match. Not a match for love, but one of purpose. Purpose is what drove you now. Purpose of justice though? Or of revenge?

The Brazon Wing comes into sight and you are thankful for it, pushing aside the thoughts of emotion for want of wine and food and company. Handing the stable boy Goldsong’s reigns, and a few extra coins to keep him safe and fed well, and enter the upscale tavern. You spy the man in a corner, a few others in plate around him likely his own men. He spies you as well and waves, the plated men grabbing their wood and cups and leaving to another table as you approach, each giving you a neutral, ‘My Lord,’ as you pass.

“It is an honor again to see you my Lord,” Ser Wilson says with a bright simple and a fierce grasp of your shoulder as you shake hands, “I trust your trip was with ease?”
>>
“As it often is Ser Wilson. And an honor to see you again as well, how faired you on your journeys to Dragonstone?”

“Peaceful my Lord. Lord Stannis Baratheon is of an honorable sense. My Lord father sent me to explain the meeting of our Houses. So as to avoid the unnecessary issues the Houses of old Valyia may cause,” he says with a deep drink and he gestures for you join him, “Another of the Arbor, lass,” he adds and the serving girl hurries off to fetch you a cask.
“Your Lord father is certainly brazon to tell his liegelord such Ser Wilson, did he not fear reprisal?”

“From Lord Stannis? No. He would sooner go to war again on behalf of his brother then smash his few sworn Houses to bits for a simple meeting. His mind seems elsewhere regardless, if I may add my Lord.”

Your dinner is served as you continue to speak of small things, travels and the like, the pigeon pie is flaky and delightful and the Arbor goes down easily. You had not tasted such in many years, a small price no doubt for the Celtigars though.

“So my Lord. I’ve no doubt you’ve questions. And while I may not be able to answer them all now, I could do some to soothe your nervous thoughts. If you so desired,” Ser Wilson says, his eyes turning to the few patrons he does not seem to know.

>What would you like to ask Ser Wilson?

Topics may include his Father, family, interest in the Crownlands, of himself, or really anything. Mind he still fears King’s Landing so may not answer everything.

“Ser Wilson. Tell me of your Lord father. He has been a Lord since before my birth, but I know little of the man. My own father did not speak much of the other Valyrian Houses,” you ask reclining against the wall and fingering at you cup for a moment.

The Knight shifts and leans over the table, seemingly without much care, “My Lord father, Ardrian Celtigar is indeed a man well into his later years my Lord. But not without his wits, he is still of a strong mind for the businesses of the House. And of my family’s welfare. The other Lords may call him sour but for what that word is worth it holds little truth. He prefers his comforts, his own stylings, other situations make him exceedingly uncomfortable and quick to dismiss. Thus he travels to the Crownlands little, and prefers his time in Crabhammer. I cannot blame him overly much. Since the death of my brother he ill likes the sea, nor sight of Dragonstone as we pass by.”

He takes a drink, and refills his cup, offering to do the same to yours as well, a gesture you accept. Ser Wilson was a good sort you feel, dutiful, and loyal. But easily manipulated by his father to his own purposes. At least he had the good knowledge to watch his tongue.

“And yet he seems to hold interest in the Crownlands all the same, is this not true good Ser?”

Ser Wilson stiffens a bit at this, but relaxes with a response, “Of a sort my Lord. As always the Celtigars wish to exert their control over the Houses of Crackclaw Point, as is our right. But we lack the presence within the Crownlands to properly do so, being a House sworn to Dragonstone as we are. Our few banners, namely among them House Balvorn, are upon scattered islands or Dragonstone herself. And we simply cannot muster the might to finally place these rogues in their place.”
>>
If your history served you right the Houses of Crackclaw point were sworn only to King’s Landing, and have been for years. This was a veiled response, something canned to appear of his family’s historical interest, not of the present. You nod and drink again, noting how he relaxes again.

“Tell me of your family then Ser. I had little idea your brother had passed, for that I am sorry. The Rebellion took much from our Houses.”

“Not so much from mine as yours my Lord. But a sentiment I appreciate regardless,” he sighs and drinks again happy to be on easy topic, “All but my twin sister are upon Crab Isle at present my Lord. She is with House Velaryon at present. Having been recently wed to Lord Monford upon the closure of the Rebellion, I believe her to be with child.”

“My eldest brother tends to my father, and the youngest is a squire within the castle. They leave little. My youngest sister is to leave upon the conclusion of your visit, her husband Ser Claudio Luken taking her to Oakmotte and his seat. While my second sister stays among the Isle to tend to my Lady mother who is of failing health.”

It would appear there are six children of Lord Celtigar then, many more than you had thought, a busy and prolific Lord he was. Ser Victor, Solhas, and Benjin had come to join you in the following moments of his little speeches and topics turn to the tide and when it would be best to leave. The Maester asks after his friend Jorum to find him in good health, and your men speak well with the plated men of Ser Wilson, something you are thankful for.

By late night, the wine has taken Maester Benjin off, and the plated men have left. Ser Victor and Solhas are ready to retire as is Ser Wilson.

Well I imagine wilson here really only knows that his dad wants it and so to be a good son he should probably shittalk it as subtly as he can (Which, evidently, is not very subtly)
>>
Of truth it was you did not entirely desire to stay in the villa, but it was still your family's. Even if it was scarred with heinous crime you would not shy away from that was yours by birth. They would not break you so easily. Begging leave of Ser Wilson you begin the slow descent towards your family’s villa across the town. Ser Victor trots up next to you and gives you an eye of question, to which you nod. A smile spreads across his lips and he breaks off. Perhaps it was the drink still upon your lips that made your mind fill of lust, or simply that of nervous aprhension that would be put down with a simple display of carnal passion. You were unsure of which, but you did desire, and you would deny those sweet looks that had been flung your way.

Upo reaching the villa Solhas helps the Maester to his room, directing you to another on the entrance floor. A few of the Sons had returned as well, though likely most were out enjoying themselves alongside Barq Zos. Seeking your mind for want of making the world stop its shaking and spinning you fall into your bed, partially clothed still and fall into a quick sleep.

You awake to light knock upon your door “Come in,” you mutter out from your pillow not wishing to be the Lord at the hour, and to your surprise Lorry enters with a sheepish look.

“Milord. Ser Victor bade me escort the seamstress to your room, she has your clothing milord.”

“Good, send her in,” you rumble and turn over, Lorry nods and quickly leaves. The only sound that enters is of soft foot and the click of the door as it closes.
>>
“M-milord? My mother sent me to deliver your clothing, she bade me to make sure it fits before you leave,” a meek and simple voice calls out more words than she mustered in her entirety the day before. You rise to a seated position in the bed, and roll out, your clothing disheveled and of the day before.

“I would require assistance than my lady,” you say your voice turning to that of silk, a call upon the morning was not unusual for you, a scenario you easily could muster to your advantage, “I trust you know how to draw a bath? I would not despoil your mother’s fine work so readily.”

“I d-do milord,” she replies and steps forward placing the package upon a table. She had worn clothing of simple make but that which showed the lines of her body, smooth curves, buxom beauty, small wonder she was not working in a whorehouse with such a body.

“Come then,” you say and begin towards the adjacent room, she hurries after her skin a flushed pink as she turns to the bath and beings her work. Short order, not overly simple, and with nimble hands, she moves quickly her eyes avoiding your gaze. You had begun to disrobe during this, the corners of her eyes catching your nudeness and her cheeks turning a deep red, “My lady if you would be so kind, these damnable things have a lace that always sticks.”
>>
“Of course milord,” she says a hint of courage in her voice, she draws close to you, nimble hands begin at the lace to your breeches above your manhood. You move your hands to her side and her breath catches as you play along the curve with simple movements, her eyes turn to you, a lust born of mere days in them. Your hands move to the laces upon her back and begin to unlace them with precision, her eyes and movements caught frozen by your own. Her bodice slips and she moves her hands to finish her work on your pants, reaching for the prize they denied her. A hurried removal of clothing follows, her skin presses against you as her dress falls to the ground and you catch her in a deep kiss. She leads you to the tub and you begin a half years worth of frustration and pent up passion upon the poor girl for the better part of the early morning.

“My Lord, it would seem you slept well,” Solhas says to you as he mounts his horse and you do much of the seem, after placing the newly wrapped package upon Goldsong’s back.

“Quite Solhas, quite.”

“Nothing to do with that girl with the glazed eyes I would imagine?”

“Couldn’t imagine so my friend,” you laugh and begin your way to the docks. Ser Wilson awaits you, his men already boarded and readying themselves. Ser Duncan, looking a new man, with a shave and his armor beaten back into place awaits as well with the rest of the Sons. You take ship and within the hour are off to Crab Isle. The fire in your chest burning bright despite the stormy seas.

You stand upon the deck, ignoring the light rain and eating an apple you had taken from Lorry a moment ago, as much as he protested it. Ser Wilson approaches, “My Lord it is good to see you of healthy spirit. May we speak?” He looks almost nervous now, not the drunken knight the day prior with words easy to his lips.

You turn to regard him fully still continuing at your apple, “Of course Ser Wilson,” you respond, “Perhaps you would rather speak in more private quarters though?”

His shoulders slack a mite and he nods, gesturing towards the door to his cabin, you follow after throwing the core over the side of the ship. It was a gorgeous ship, one that turned Illiad green with envy even, and you wondered at the truth of the Celtigar’s wealth. Surely they must posture to be able to afford so openly, would they be so bold as to offer you terms though if they had not the funds to back it though was the true question.

Ser Wilson takes up position behind a table, a map of the Crownlands and the surrounding islands being in sight, markers have fallen over from the choppy sea that he carefully places back upon with delicate fingers, “My Lord. I must speak a truth to you. My Lord father has no true interest in your villa, it is a despoiled thing. And his own far grander, despite being of less history.”

The Knight sighs as you eye him carefully, finally a truth from the man, “To be entirely truthful my Lord I sought you out and would have bought your villa with my own coin. Taken it as a seat in King’s Landing, a home away from home as it were. I was sent with greater purpose, one I would be disgraced in keeping from you.”

That was a cut, you had hoped so very much to use the villa for something better, to know it was worth so little a third son thought to buy it merely by spoken chance was a truth hard to swallow, your eyes search his with the tint of flame and he continues.

“My Lord father, wished your presence my Lord, he did not care how. But could not do it under normal circumstances, we are still blood of the Valyrians. He did much and same for the Velaryons and their bannermen the Lukens. He wishes for you marry my sister, and with little fuss on your end,” he finishes his eyes kept upon the map in front of him.

But how you wondered, you could deny the request just as easily, did he have means to extort you? Has their a further game? This new information had thrown the entirty of your plan into disarray, you truly had no idea what you were walking into.

> Questions for Ser Wilson?

Ser Wilson is a Knight with honor, a true knight if you’ve ever met one, he will answer in honesty and fullness to anything within his scope of knowledge.
>>
Sorry about the delay guys there's a thunderstorm and my internet is being shoddy right now.
>>
>>42424396
Ask him about his sister and just what his father's game is.
>>
>>42424396
>Questions for Ser Wilson?

"Have you any idea of his reasons for all of this?"
>>
>>42424396
"What does your sister look like?"
>>
>>42424449
I'd prefer we handle it a bit more tactfully, but it is somewhat important.

Is the family Valyrian, or just "Valyrian"?

Also, RIP HDW
>>
>>42424396
"Has your father been in contact with Varys?"
>>
>>42424396
>Inquire as to the reasons why, and what Lord Celtigar is planning. You have no objection to doing so, but you also have none towards the opposite course of action either.
>>
>>42424499
Oh, this is probably important
>>
>>42424497
Frankly more valyrian than we are
>>
>>42424396
Why has he been doing this?
>>
>>42424594
I thought we were pretty good Valyrian stock. Silver hair is somewhat common in our house, as is purple eyes. Sure we can also have black hair and green eyes, but it's still very close to the dragonbitch.
>>
>>42424633
Actually. It is the exact opposite. The Valyrian blood in our family is weak. We are just lucky.
>>
>>42424671
Huh, good to know. I remember that we didn't know if the braid was from our mother or our sister, implying that at least 3/4s of our living family had silver hair.
>>
“For what purpose Ser Wilson?” you ask, eyes locked upon his that constantly search the desk for answers, his honor was at stake, he ill liked lying it would seem and despite that his father would use him in such a way for his wn plans.

“Power my Lord. With the Targaryens gone, yourself and the Velaryons greatly diminished he seeks to place himself as the most powerful of the Varylian Houses. His wealth places him ahead of the rest being able to pay off our debt to the Crown in short order. The Velaryons now owe him a debt of thanks, and their bannerhouse, the Lukens, are all but owned by mine own now.”

“If he offered to relieve you of your debt entirely, would you not jump at the chance my Lord?” he says his voice cracking, “If it were but a portion of the dowry promised with my sister, would you not wish to see it done?”

“And of your sister’s part in this?” you ask glad to have left your sword in your quarters earlier.

“She despises it my Lord. Helena was promised to Ser Claudio Luken at the onset of this. He came to Crabhammer, treated with my father as if he were the King, then came to my sister in the deep of night, reeking of alcohol and attempted to force himself on her,” he spits a rage in his own eyes, “When she denied his efforts he sought out my youngest sister and took her instead. My father married her off in quick order and now she is heavy with child. He was mad with rage at my dear sister, swearing to sell her off to the next Merchant Prince that passes by with the coin to spare.”
>>
>>42424633
At the time of Aegon's Conquest, House Malroy had the classic Valyrian looks but years of marriage through the Westerosis House thinned it and we lost it untill a Targ offered a niece in marriage for a deed one of our ancestor did.
Also no one of our House ever got to ride a dragon, so we're not prime Valyrian stock.
>>
>>42424705
Its in the backstory. We only got the eyes and hair back when the Targs let the head of our family marry a distant cousin of theirs and its not even a sure thing even then and even the most Valyrian Malroy that has ever lived failed to tame a dragon and got burnt for it.
>>
>>42424705
>Aeson Malory was given the land as reward for his victory against the local Lords of the Crownlands, using the Blackwater Rush to drown out his enemies and hold a strong line against the west for the duration of Conquest, using horse mounted men patrolling constantly to alert the main forces of coming armies. Within his blood was that of old Valyria, and though he did not carry the silver hair and purple eyes of the Targaryens every once and awhile one or the other would pop up in his decedents.
>>
>>42424705
Our mother, of course, was not a Malroy, so that wouldn't actually speak to the targaryian blood of the malroys.
>>
You pace the deck before him, eyes now fixed on the map of the Crownlands, the field of crabs were bathed over Crackclaw Point, there was further plan, “What does he seek with all of this Ser Wilson?”

“Besides power over the other Valyrian Houses? To regain Crackclaw Point, by right of conquest. He thinks Lord Stannis would allow him to invade the lands and put them to the knee, swearing themselves to the Celtigars once more. I do not in turth know if this is wise, Lord Stannis is too practical of a man, I can not see him stealing from his brother.”

A final question plays upon your mind, “Has Lord Varys been in contact with your father?”

He stops his fidgeting and stares at you dead eyed, “No my Lord. Not that I have been told, never. The Spider is the new King’s creature now. My father wants nothing to do with him.”

Sighing again he slumps, “My Lord I am truly sorry for this. I ruin my honor with lies and trickery, and in truth I can do nothing to stop it. But I would ask you to forgive me, and listen to my plan. I need to save my sister from the cruelities of this plan, even if it is only the one.”

>Hear him out?
>Deny him, you will deal with Lord Celtigar yourself

>>42424633
>>42424671

I'd say it's moderate now, definitely less than the Celtigars. Far more than the Velaryons. Black and green eyes are far more common in your family. And the fact your sister and yourself both had silver hair is rare indeed. Most of the strength of your blood comes from the marriage to the Targaryens many years ago. Otherwise your family was merely of Valyria, and Ser Aeson Malroy was just a lucky Knight from a family that once could fly dragons.
>>
>>42424779
>>Hear him out?
>>
>>42424779

>>
>>42424779
>>Hear him out?
What is it? You at least seem to have some honour.
>>
>>42424779
Well hearing him out can't really hurt.
>>
Taking place across from him you cross your arms and attempt to calm the fire in your eyes, “Alright Ser Wilson, tell me of your grand plan.”

For his part he looks relieved, “Thank you my Lord. Believe me this is hard to ask. I dare not with Lord Monford and Ser Claudio is a raping piece of shit if I ever knew one,” he clears his throat and focuses, “My Lord, agree to marry my sister, he will ask, it will not be with subtility. She will be placed at the forfront of your reception, and she will be radiant. Lust may even make you agree, but be careful. Put it off. Tell him of your agreement, but place the marriage a year. Maybe two in the future. And pay the debt yourself. Do not tell him of this, allow him to think he has control.”

“Your plan is for my House to potentially fall into default on a debt? To save your sister?”

“No my Lord, to save my father, the people of the Crownlands. To prevent war. And to whisk my sister away to safety when it is done, and myself and hopefully Willas.”

“If you are outside of his control, the Crownlands stay out of his reach my Lord, he has no landed force to rally the other Houses to and attack Crackclaw Point in foolish greed, and without the debt to secure your House to his the marriage merely proves to be one of worth to you.”

This was a lot, to say your plans had gone awry was understating it, the Knight wished to save the damsel, but upon single thread. Your House could fall to decay before you repaid the debt, and for a prize that wanted nothing to do with you. All to deny a crazed old man likely wroth from loss of his son. You need a bloody drink, a few of them.

“What would you do if I denied you?” you ask weary already as the sea continued to churn.

“I would deny you Helena. Steal her in the dead of night and leave for Essos, never to be seen again,” he responds coldly, “My Lord this is the only way. Please,”

>Agree to his plan
>Agree but with intention of betraying him
>>
>>42425025
Well it seems to me him stealing her away in the dead of night and leaving for essos might be a decent option. There have to be people we could make a deal with to refinance the debt, and then we wouldn't be pissing off lord celtigar ourselves.
>>
>>42425025
>Agree to his plan

I'd rather not be a pawn in his father's game.
>>
Basically, you can save your House by siding with Lord Ardrian Celtigar, the debt would be paid immediately. And you find yourself with an advantageous marriage. But owe such a debt to the Celtigars that if they called upon you it would be difficult to deny.

Or you can side with Wilson, pay the debt yourself, hoping not to fall to ruin with it. And get the girl, his services, and a lump sum of dowry at the end. Lord Celtigar would be furious and you'd loss an ally through that. But potentially gain more by denying him war.
>>
A pox on both their houses IMO. What use is the girl without the ally, and what good would it do our reputation to immediately start working for another crazed valyrian.
>>
>>42425134
We could also just not marry her. Heeck we could even decline the offer when he makes it.
>>
>>42425134
Well the fuckhuge dowry for one. And maybe we could ally with some of the Crackclaw Point houses with the new knowledge?
>>
>>42425163
I dont think we should play any politic games in that area while we still got that Royce Bastard to deal with.
>>
>>42425025
How about neither.
>>
>>42425152

This is also a point to be considered. This is a lot of win or lose from the get go. But if you deny them entirely, you have multiple other avenues to pursue instead.

You would lose a dowry worth more than any of the other offers you'll get, the blood of another Valyrian added to yours, Ser Wilson and his services, or a potential ally in Lord Celtigar depending upon your choices.
>>
>>42425025
>>Agree to his plan
>>
>>42425163
Screw that let's go talk to the iron bank for a loan on more agreeable loan. With the money the crown owes them (i think that started even now with war debts) everything they give us will probably go right back to them anyway. The villa, it seems, is not so great as collatoral as we imagined, but we do still have a decent set of horses.
>>
>>42425025
Go ahead steal her and go to Essos
>>
>>42425287
Hell, we can probably give him some recommendations!
Just, do it after we've gotten a chance to give Helana that silk so it looks like we were trying to woo her and it becomes clearly something we had nothing to do with.
>>
Alright I'm not really seeing too much support for any options. Little bits of everything. Some agree, some want to say fuck that entirely. Not sure.

I actually kind of wish I hadn't mentioned the HDW thing earlier. I feel like that's influence wife decisions. When it is such an important part of the early quests. I may have made a poor decision on that.

And just to put it out there. I do not ever plan to really allow you guys to refinance the debt. It simply isn't an option. Due to a lack of standing with the major holders, and none of the minor holders being able to pony up the money for it.
>>
>>42425332
>I actually kind of wish I hadn't mentioned the HDW thing earlier. I feel like that's influence wife decisions. When it is such an important part of the early quests. I may have made a poor decision on that.
Not for me at least this is genuinely just a shitty deal we're getting offered either way and a not-interested wife is an unfortunate necessity but an actively unwilling one is just bad.
>>
>>42425332
>a lack of standing with the major holders
what does debt have to do with standing? It's a business, they want to make money. Even if we lose the house we'll return to essos and go back to sell-swording to pay them off.
>>
>>42425332
Any chance we can give him a none-answer intill we actually meet the family ? Tell him that we will think about it.
>>
What would have happened if we brought our bastard with is when we went to bend the knee anyway?
>>
>>42425441
That'd be the best in this situation, play cold feet with everyone of them crabs
>>
Plus if we get to know Crabgirl she might be alright and marriage material
>>
>>42425402
I thought I made it kind of clear with the House being as it is, but there is no good deal. The house is broken down, and barely alive as is and has the Crown breathing down their neck. No one wants to marry to that. These deals, while shitty, are the best you'll get it's all down hill from here.

>>42425436
Think of it like a credit score. The House is so badly off no one really wants to touch you financially.

>>42425441
Yes. Entirely possible. You'll need to put a face on for it. But neither side will trust you and there's a chance you'll lose it all with the wrong step.

>>42425461
Cersei being a bitch essentially. Well more so.
>>
>>42425025
>Agree to his plan

Really. We are between a rock and a hard place.
>>
>>42425573
>Think of it like a credit score
So after enough time dealing with the current debt THEN we'll be able to refinance?
>>
Did we ever sat and look into how the Iron Bank could loan us some money?
>>
>agree to the plan
It's the one with the least drawbacks. We will get the dowry in the end, a wife who is indifferent to loving depending on how we act, and aren't wrangled into an unneeded war.
>>
>>42425799
No one really got the idea intill now.
>>
>>42425826
No it's been fairly consistently mentioned trying to do it to SOMEONE, often with the hope of using our villa as partial collateral.
>>
>>42425799
No, because we were hoping to get something out of this, (and personally I would've gone to one of the other national banks in the hopes they might give us better terms because EVERYONE goes to the iron bank) but apparently it'd just be a waste of time.

It's silly to me that no one would even be willing to give us a long term worse loan that would still give us more breathing room right now. Risk is a part of loans, and we're still going to be getting steady tax money.
>>
Alright. I think I messed this up in the presentation. I see enough support to agreeing with the plan but also a lot of disinterest in dealing with them in general. The disinterest is what gets me the most because it seems so common in most of the threads, which is likely a failure on my end to provide compelling plot. So I'm not sure how to proceed. I don't want to redact the entire thing but I also don't want to feel like I'm forcing you guys on a railroad with little interest.
>>
>>42425938
And lost my trip because my internet is being shit.
>>
>>42425953
Just do a revote with the neither option as well to settle it.
>>
>>42425938
It's not disinterest, it's an active choice, at least on my part. I'd say clear things up with an updated agree/tell them to fuck off vote to distinguish discussion from votes.
I seriously don't see the point of agreeing to the plan though because we still end up with a wife that doesn't bring us any alliance, AND dealing with the debt ourself, and ALSO a new enemy.
Even if we don't have any good marriage options we'd be better off just marrying a fucking commoner because that wouldn't make an enemy.
>>
>>42425938
We could ask Wilson if he'd be okay with his sis just out of the house and out of reach of the father.
>Marry her.
>Have a child by her.
>Allow her to join the Faith as a Septa, thus giving us a quick divorce.
>Debt paid, Celtigar renamed Saltygar
Child could be optional
>>
>>42425938
>>42425953

I'm interested, although I do wish there were more options or opportunities, but that's part of the plot. I think with the information provided I would go with a neither option and try to find a better bride
>>
I don't see what we gain out of doing this deal. Like, why stick out neck out for this guy? Crabbers have acted dushonourably towards us
>>
>>42426060
A disinterested wife and a new enemy! We don't even really get to ease our conscience because the Bad Thing To Be Avoided still happens: the sister gets used as a marriage pawn.
>>
>>42426096
Pretty much. Everyone can see that this is just a lose-lose situation for us. Nothing good comes of it. No need to actually play. Heck. Why on earth should we even care about his sister and family like that ?

If the crabs want to fight a pointless war let them do so without us. Marriage or later marriage. We have no interest in that area with the Redwatch bastard breathing down our neck and they are not able to actually provide us with anything on that front.

Heck its not even a lose-lose situation. Its a lose more-lose more.
>>
>>42425938
Its just it feels like you put us on a very stringent path and even with innovation on the players part we would still be stuck in basically the same boat we would have been in if we haven't had participated.
>>
Watch this Duncan. We don't know him too well. Could be a villain. Could be be a spy. We can't be so open without thinking things through.

Watch him close.
>>
>>42426160
No, it's more of a trade-off/worse than status quo situation.
If we betrayed duncan we'd at least have our debt paid off. We'd have new obligations but it's something to weigh.

Agreeing to his plan leave's literally everyone except maybe duncan personally worse off than the status quo. His sister is still married to someone she has no interest in, we're still dealing with out debt ourselves, but he gets to stay in westeros instead of running off to essos.
>>
>>42426188
Go away Leto. You died. Twice.
>>
>>42426224
betrayed wilson i mean
>>
>>42426177
Yeah. I did. I messed it up and did this poorly. I don't actually think I'm enjoying this anymore myself, I'm better at writing for myself not for others.

I had meant this to be a difficult sort of beginning to a usually easy mode quest type. But in doing so I hamstrung your guy's participation worth so much I ruined any matter of plot I would have put out there.

So yeah. I need to reevaluate. This might not be for me. I'm not even keen on doing a revote because of the mess. I'm sorry guys.
>>
>>42426263
Eh. Dont hit yourself too hard on it mate. You're new to this. Either continue or call it for today then start the Quest another day. Dont worry too much about it.
>>
>>42426263
There is no mess! There's three unpleasant choices, one of which you didn't think of, and a lot of us are interested in that one. I'm fine with only unpleasant choices though, it's different.
>>
>>42426263
>>42426283
Forgot to say that. It is okay to sometime have a choice between bad and bad. You just didnt account for the fact that we found a third option. That is all. Just continue with that one.
>>
>>42426283
>>42426288
>>42426321

Alright then. Maybe we go with neither, I can say we haven't left port yet. Call Wilson on his bullshit and leave. Return to Steadhold and forget the Celtigars.

It'll have it's own set on consequences but it seems to be the most popular. Agreeable? I might have to call the thread and start with that at beginning of the next, just to give myself a refresh.
>>
>>42426392
We can still visit and enjoy whatever feast they have and then like. Find out about how the Crownlands lies and then simply decline marriage. No need to retcon.
>>
>>42426392
See if Wilson wants to buy the villa himself now
>>
>>42426417
It's a small retcon really, not hard to pull off. And Wilson will be pretty damn pissed if you decline right now, not a give this guy a feast anyway sort of decision.
>>
>>42426437
Over my dead body. That Villa is ours!

We just take a loan from the Iron Bank or whatever other bank there is with a better interest rate to pay the Crown then work on expanding our land.
>>
>>42426392
>>42426417
Yeah the neither option still involves visiting the celtigars, just doing our best to politely decline.

>>42426437
eh if we can't get anything decent from it i think it has more Emotional Value than we'd get, might as well not even sell it.

>>
Come on The Father it's basically the feudal version of the Awkward Dinner Party. How could we pass that up?
>>
>>42426461
Tell him that we don't want to be involved with his or his father's schemes. His sister may be nice, but but we wouldn't know. And we wouldn't want her with a poisoned relationship anyway. Tell him that neither option interests us.

We still have our honor.
>>
>>42426461
Seriously, we just lie to him and then dont accept the marriage and let him be pissy.

Believe. You do not want to retcon. Cause that can and will open a can of worms at some point later.

>>42426564

I may, yet again, need to reevaluate. Some Anons made valid points on it. And more Essos interactions never hurt I suppose.
>>
Alright, clear winner of do neither. Now I suppose I'll allow the vote for how we do neither.

>Lie to Ser Wilson, travel to Crab Isle and treat with his father, only to deny them both
>Storm off now, with your retinue and leave, he and his father both sought to play you, they do not deserve your presence
>>
>>42426542
>Do neither, simply walk away from it

His sister and him can shove it. We are not his pawn to play with. Even more so how he tried to pretty much cheat us out of our villa.
>>
>>42426722
>Storm off now, with your retinue and leave, he and his father both sought to play you, they do not deserve your presence
No point in antagonizing them, just tell him the truth.
>>
>>42426722
Eh. I am up for either.
>>
>>42426722
>Storm off now, with your retinue and leave, he and his father both sought to play you, they do not deserve your presence
>>
>>42426722
Well he at least told us we weren't going to get anything we were expecting so I'd ideally not want to leave him stuck explaining why the fuck we just up and left, but apparently that's going to piss him off two?
>>
>>42426722
>>Storm off now, with your retinue and leave, he and his father both sought to play you, they do not deserve your presence
>>
Going with storming off then. I'll have to do a bit of planning for an event or two in King's Landing to make up for what you lost in going to Crab Isle. It won't be much.

So the Celtigars are out of the marriage pool. As a note they were the only ones able to fully pay off your debt. But... The Dragon egg is still in play so it may not have ever been of interest. Their plotline was a lot of bullshit on both sides. Wilson is a true knight but he allows it to cloud his vision, and he thinks he can play to people's honor to get his way to be the true way.

Lord Celtigar is a bastard, he would have drug you into a war, and demanded your presence as well as your first born legitimate child as his page/cupbearer.

The marriage would have been a mess on both ends. Wilson would have used Helena to manipulate you and Helena would have hated you from the other.

So I guess... Yeah neither was probably the best option. This is a learning experience for me, I handled that poorly and should have presented it better, I'll strive to do better with the other marriage options as we come to them. At least you got your dick wet I suppose.
>>
>>42426866
Now that we done pissed off one of the wealthiest fucks in the Crownlands, do you know the name of the only guy other than Robert that could save us by telling him to fuck off?
>>
>>42426943
We could appeal to his sense of justice. That we have been put under a debt that is not ours to bear
>>
Oh and end Chapter V.

Again, sorry guys. Here's a small thing to make up for it. The Redwards holdings and members of House. I do plan to give them a comprehensive history someday as well, and they actually do have a spreadsheet that tracks their House progression as well but that's super spoilery. Though a few things on this can lead to spoilers, I don't think anyone has guessed them yet.

Anyway, I'll be running again on Saturday at 5PM EST. I'll announce changes on my twitter should they occur. My job has me working weekends until we can get this project done, but I'll be able to run a fairly decent thread. Maybe make Steadhold less of a sausage fest finally.

>>42426943
Maybe if you swore your House to him instead of the Crown. Haha But I never really thought of any meaningful interactions with Stannis. Perhaps I should. Now that you're the lone wolf Valyrian House.
>>
>>42426866
Eh. Iron Bank probably got a representative in Kings Landing and there might be a chance to talk with Jon Arryn or Robert about the debt.

Ofcourse we should also call for that girl again to "check up" on the outfit. Its a bit tight.
>>
>>42427132
Before you go, if we manage to pay off our debt, will the doubled cost be eliminated?
>>
>>42427157
Telling john arryn about the celtigar ambitions would probably get a few brownie points and smooth things over a little for our later trial. The debt, not so much.

And yeah the iron bank at least almost certainly has a representative in kings landing, though maybe not one that actually has the authority to officially make the deal himself. The other national banks not so much.

From the look of it, Royce's living off the fat of the land, as soon as the season turns for the worse and the money he earned by sacking Steadhold dries up he'll have to rely on the toll he "gain" on his portion of the goldroad.

You know who's on the other end of the goldroad, right now I doubt he'll give a fuck but if enough of his merchant goes to complain...
>>
>>42427344
Find it strange that his lowborn "wife and daughter" died soon after he's made a lord...
>>
>>42427157
I'm probably not going to go with the Iron Bank. Perhaps a smaller one, I think I'll do that as the primary intrigue scenario I was originally going to do with Lord Celtigar.

More than likely Jon Arryn would be available for a chat. He's the best at keeping relations with the Crownland Houses and would be interested to hear of what happened. An interest that Stannis would also hear of. It's a little kiss assy but sometimes you do what you must when you spurn others. And yes he would have advice on the debt and your trial.

For some odd reason most of Brynden's clothes are a bit tight, particularly in the chest region, and depending upon company, others. It's a hell of a time to get good clothing.

>>42427216
Yes. And though I said it awhile ago that I had intended Wealth holdings to cost Double, I ended up not doing that because of the inherit difficulty that it would ramp this up to be. Almost unplayable. I'll need to put it in other ways so the Debt doesn't feel like a purely crunch thing. It does however mean buying a suit of plate is entirely outside of your budget. So unless you dedicate House Wealth to it, you won't be competing in the Joust at the Tourney. But in truth, you are better with the bow.

I was rereading the books the other day, and came across the prize for the archery contest alone in Joffrey's Name day Tourney, fucking 10000 gold dragons. Fuck me I'm terrible at picking debt amounts.

Royce is, in short, an idiot. An ambitious driven idiot, but one all the same. He seeks to rule with the might of the military and upon the teat of the Crown. His marriage, in theory, should bring him the Wealth to live like an actual Lord. Albeit still a dumb one.

>>42427364
Yeah about that... I think you can figure that out on your own.

Yeah, we don't even have to go to open war against him, as long as we play it cool we could keep forcing him to do stupid shits that'll put his house on the shitlist of the Crown, though it'd be wise if we could fuck up his marriage before the wife familly(who most likely is a house that got shafted hard by the victory of Robert...House Thorne most likely) takes control of OUR lands.

What the fuck, you guys?

We KNEW the Celtigars had ulterior motives, and that was precisely the reason we were going, to see if we could find an ally who doesn't feel happy under the usurper's rule.

The son just wanted what was best for his sister, which is perfectly understandable, and he told us his father is ambitious as all hell. That's not unusual for Westerosi lord.

But think about this: The Celtigars are a Valyrian house with a valid, historical claim on a large stretch of land in the northern crownlands: Cracklaw point.

Helping them subdue their former vassals would be a fantastic way to help them intio a position of prominence and a massive step to securing Valyrian primacy throughout the Crownlands, which would be no terrible thing for us.

We could argue with Lord Celtigar to wait while his allies gather stength, and ask his support in repulsing the mercenary army the Redward bastard (You know, the traitor who raped our mother and sister before killing them? And who was rewarded with a great chunk of our lands for it?) is gathering on our southern border.

Why in the name of all the seven would you throw a tantrum the first moment you hear something you don't like?

In our current position, we CANNOT AFFORD just to give the middle finger to someone just because our poor little brains get confused.

I've been looking forward to the Celtigar visit ever since we met Wilson, goddamn it, and now we're not even going to bother to show up to Claw Isle because of something a hedge knight said?

Piss on that. We need to at least go and hear them out.

If Wilson's sister actively likes us, she might convince her brother there'd be no need to steal her away to Essos if we were to marry. If we talked to her father about his plans, we might even be able to convince him that with enough powerful allies, he could convince the Cracklaw houses to accept him through diplomacy.
>>
>>42430988
Yes, by the way, i'm fucking mad.

Because of time-zone issues, I abandoned thread early to get some sleep, assuming that nobody could possibly fuck up this badly.

Turns out I was wrong. I shouldn't have overestimated the competence of /tg/ Anons.
>>
>>42430988
>We KNEW the Celtigars had ulterior motives, and that was precisely the reason we were going, to see if we could find an ally who doesn't feel happy under the usurper's rule.
We knew there'd be ulterior motives, but that doesn't mean the ulterior motives couldn't possibly turn out to be too much for us to want to put up with, and also frankly an ally who doesn't feel happy under Robert seems to me like doubling down on a power base that already lost once and has only weakened since. Sure ideally I would've wanted to go ACT like we weren't blowing him off but i got the impression from The Father that wasn't possible.
>>
>>42431049
If somebody proposes marriage, we can always say no. The point being, it's still our choice and we ought to hear them out.

We've told the Celtigars we'd be going. Not showing up, after we've told them we'd go? That's a serious insult. "You'd better have a damn good reason and even then there's a chance we'll hold a grudge" tier.
>>
>>42431081
Well we did "officially" learn the entire visit was under false pretenses. That's a decent reason.
>>
Frankly i'd be less worried about pissing him off from blowing him off and more worried about pissing him off with our plant to immediately go tattle to jon arryn
>>
>>42431102
>Well we did "officially" learn the entire visit was under false pretenses. That's a decent reason.
So because we learned something we already guessed, we're deciding to tell one of our only prospective allies to go fuck themselves?

That doesn't sound 'decent' to me, that sounds... painfully stupid.

The kind of stupid liable to land us in hot water FAST in Westeros.
>>
>>42431179
I'm not saying that's the REAL reason, i'm saying that's the reason we would hide behind to avoid him holding a grudge... IF we weren't about to snitch on him to the crown, which is even MORE deserving of a grudge then abandoning negotiations.
>>
>>42431153

I'd rather tattle to Stannis, honestly.
>>
>>42431243
Well he'll probably tell stannis, and mention he heard it from us, so we'll get a LITTLE bit in his good graces, but the thing is we're IN king's landing, and also jon arryn is likely to ultimately be in charge of the sentencing for the additional trial we accidentally set up for ourselves when trying to avoid extra debt (but still were stuck with the extra debt so we really only made thing's worse. It was a noble effort though.)
>>
>>42431219
>>42431243
>>42431254
But why tattle on them at all?

This is just painful. They're our best chance at allies early on, and we're telling the crown... what?

That they're going to try and enforce their lawful claim to sovereignty of Cracklaw Point?

They aren't atually doing anything wrong as far as I can tell.

"Hey Jon Arryn... guy who sentenced us to a massive debt with ridiculous interest that's designed to be next to impossible to pay off. Our former friends are planning to OBEY THE LAW, so we thought we should come straight to you an stab them in the back in order to tell you that they're doing nothing wrong."
>>
>>42431364
Well, that's one way of looking at the law, but on the other hand if the crown agreed presumably they'd already be in charge of cracklaw point.

They're shit allies from the power base that lost the war in the first place and has only gotten into a worse position since then. Why trade one overlord for two?
>>
>>42431392
Because the current powers that be are serious shitters that are charging us 25% interest on a loan whose scope can barely even comprehend?

And rewarded someone who raped and killed our mother and sister?
>>
>>42427702
This can only go badly.

As far as this marriage proposal, cant we just go, talk and wine and dine then say we need time to think on it, head home (tell the brother of the potential wife to sod off THEN) and pass off the diplomacy penalty onto them instead of us.
>>
>>42431407
Yeah, except we'd still have to fucking obey robert baratheon, we'd just ALSO have to obey lord celtigar! We are stuck with Robert until someone with an actual chance of deposing him shows up (dany or aegon), and we don't actually have to cozy up with him personally (though it would be smarter than cozying up with lord celtigar,) because there are lots of people that did not personally reward someone who raped and murdered our sister and mother, but also are not on the crown's "look out for list."

I mean the more the crown likes us the less they'll care about us fucking over Redward, seems like a much better plan than "hey a bunch of former targ loyalists are forming up into a league in the crownlands, come up with some other shit to place on them to keep them under our heel."
>>
>>42431437
So what, you object to this plan just because it would benefit somebody else, and /tg/ wouldn't be the biggest boy in the playground? Grow up.

It's not like we'd be Celtigar's vassal.
>>
>>42431490
We should just had lied to Wilson. Married the girl and get the money and then when Celtigar calls tell him to go fuck himself and his war of agression.

Hope Father will make Wilson desperate and beg is to reconsider and give us a second chance.
>>
>>42431510
The two purposes of marriage are alliance and legitimate heirs. Telling our wife's family to fuck off just means we've got no ally out of it and also can't get any OTHER allies through marriage because we're already married!
>>
>>42431528
Sure we'd be out of the debt but that's not insurmountable in the first place. Especially if we Royce Redward actually is hiring mercenaries to go after us, we get together with our mom's family and see if THEY'RE interested in revenge, grab the egg and it's taken care of.
>>
>>42431510
>Married the girl and get the money and then when Celtigar calls tell him to go fuck himself and his war of agression.
Well, see, if we marry her, we can probably temper his aggression and help him come up with a plan less likely to fail or backfire.
>>
Ever considered that the Celtigars might give this offer to Royce instead ?

Dude is already building up an army. What do you think he can do with that kind of dowry?

Seriously Father i hope you read this and give us a second chance
>>
>>42431551
Royce is already engaged.
>>
>>42431568
Nothing that cant be broken if a better deals comes up and he seems like the kind of guy who would do that.
>>
>>42431568
And instead of gathering allies, we're dicking around trying to cause offence to as many people as possible, apparently.
>>
>>42431576
Gathering allies doesn't mean taking any deal no matter how bad.
>>
>>42431621
Sometime you just need to play the game and not make a Eddard Stark. Every other choice is worse.
>>
>>42431621
What's bad about Celtigar's deal, exactly?

1. Get strong valyrian allies
2. Pay off our debt
3. Have a legal way to help our ally grow more powerful
4. Immediate support to give bastard traitor dick and his mercenaries pause
>>
>>42431658
The status quo still leaves us opportunities. I'm willing to sleaze for even the slightest advantage, but this is too much sleeze, with too much risk, for not enough gain. Being eddard stark ksnt great, but a REPUTATION for being eddard stark is pretty useful, so if nothing else we just leave the crown thinking we're snitches that want nothing to do with the other valyrians I think this has been a net gain.
>>
>>42431684
But thats the thing. This leaves us with all the negative parts of being Eddard and none of the positive.
>>
>>42431676
Our allies are nowhere near us, and the legal claim is somewhat questionable, and relies on support that might not even exist, and again is doubling down on the team that lost the war in the first place.
>>
>>42431689
The reputation IS the good part of being eddard. The not looking out for PR participating in schemes is the bad part, and we're still willing to do so... Just not this really particularly flawed scheme.
>>
>>42431697
I don't see why you're so obsessed about this so-called doubling down.

The 'team that lost the war' is irrelevant now that the realm is united.

Not to mention that having allies in the crownlands is hardly "Nowhere near us."

And we're hardly going to be any use to their plans if we're destroyed by some merc-hiring asshole, so i'd think they'd be more than happy to support us against him.
>>
>>42431724
But people wont think we are being a Eddard Stark over this. Heck most people wont even know of this. They simply wont care and in the mean time we will be ripped to pieces.
>>
>>42431724
>The reputation IS the good part of being eddard.
The reputation for stabbing your allies in the back when they offer to marry you to their daughter?

Yeah, I forgot Eddard had a habit of doing that. Good point, well made.
>>
>>42431740
The crown will though, and the crown are the ones we want to think that we aren't going to start any shit. And it's not like even someone favored by the king can just attack over nothing.
>>
>>42431759
The Crown will fuck us over regardless and i'd rather get fucked while having no debt than being fuck while having a massive debt like that.
>>
>>42431729
>so i'd think they'd be more than happy to support us against him.
I don't think they'd be all that "helpfull", if anything they'd left us lose a good chunk of our standing army before sweeping in an coming to give aid and relief(and a huge ball&chain attached to it) that way we'd be more like they attack dog/bitch when not at war than a House proper.

Not to mention that House Celtigar's seat is closer to the Vale than to us.
>>
>>42431758
Well they're not actually our allies, so we're not stabbing them in the back. Rather than literally being eddard stark (which was an accusation made by the pro-celtigar side, I'm just rolling with it,) if we give the crown the impression that we're good little boys that don't have any interest in scheming with the other crown loyalists, they have less reason to care about any attempts we make to build up our strength.
>>
>>42431804
> attempts we make to build up our strength.

We wont be able to build up our strength because we wont have any money nor allies or any kind of important friends. We're neutered. No amount of "all according to keikeouku" is gonna change that.
>>
>>42431780
In fairness they probably would come as quick as they could, that's lord celtogars's daughter that's gonna be raped and murdered if Royce takes steadhold after all. I just question how quick it could be, because as you mention they're ALMOST as far as they can be while still being in the crownlands.
>>
>>42431813
We talked the father into letting us talk toone of the essosi national banks about a loan that would let us pay off the crown loan and then have more agreeable monthly payments, so I wouldn't bet on that. On that note I think we should bring the records of we sold/gave off to demonstrate that with a little spare change we'd be able to improve our position immensely, we're not as bad a bet as we seem.
>>
>>42431804
>Well they're not actually our allies, so we're not stabbing them in the back.
I dunno', i'd consider them the closest thing we have to a friendly house right now. No other crowland house is likely to toush us with a ten foot pole, after all. Not while we're saddled with this shitty debt, strange rumours from our time in Essos and with half of our lands owned by somebody else.
>>
>>42431837
There is our mom's family, admittedly as don't know exactly what's going on there yet because the father hasn't told us what he decided on but I doubt they're any more happy with Royce redward than we are.
>>
Not taking the wedding will most likely leave us with no time/money to buy free Illad's brother which means we will break our promise to an old friend and no myrish crossbows.
