You are Sergei Boystov rogue mech pilot and owner of the super mech RB-01 Cognis. You have spent the last 3 days evading recon sweeps from IF peacekeepers. For a while it was like you were constantly on the move, taking shifts in the cockpit with Lev. Only know have you found enough respite to repair and re-arm.

As you weld the last armour plate into place you see Sang walking back into camp after meeting with her contacts.

"So what's the word?"

"They've found it. The Peace Keepers are using an FAF base in the central part of this region. My contacts tell me that it isn't very heavily defended. Almost all the units are deployed searching for us. They are spread out in a way that assumes we're heading south; they will not expect us to circle round and attack the base."

"Alright let's do this."

Who will be your co-pilot for this mission?

ours later you're moving in on the base. Sang reviews your objectives.

"Alright the primary targets are heliport, supply dumps and command center. If we can destroy these it would eriously hamper the Peace Keepers ability to mobilise."

Lev chimes in.
"We've been running dangerously low on supplies. I'm going to bring in the truck and try raiding the supply dumps before blowing them. We desperately need so more ammo."

"Also watch out for the air defense turrets around the command center. They can't depress far enough to target you but they'll shoot down any missiles that come in range."

>>
>>42427226
The HMG fires three shots that do 1 damage each, but it's twin linked so that's what it's RoF is 3x2.

Mag Rail weapons will shut down if a mech suffers from EMP shock.

The Penetrator attribute means the weapon ignores any damage reduction effects.

Semi-autonomous means that this weapon can be set to attack the closest target without requiring any actions on the part of the pilot or co-pilot.

You should also know that the smart gun can be shut down by EMP or hacking. It will also auto hit if you have a lock on the target, just like a missile.

Oh that's fantastic.

We can't go up against this kinda shit again without our railgun back online. Just one of these suckers nearly ripped us a new one.
>>
>>42427554
Agreed, but hopefully once we pass the border we can find one easier.
>>
>>42427576
I don't even want to think of what might have happened if that line breaker had also been deployed, they could have herded us around the place and probably soaked the splash damage from that siege cannon.
>>
>>42427526
There are 7 mech manufacturers in the world, so far you've encountered mechs from 6 of them and seen the almanacs for 5 of them.
>>
>>42427641
once we cross the border can we please get a tech for our railgun? That Onager was BS without AP rounds.
>>
>>42427640
The Linebreaker was actually the mech used by Captain Graves when you played as the mercs, which is why it's revealed on the Almanac.

>>42427675
We'll see. The main advantage of the railgun is that it has long range and ignores damage reduction. The actual damage it does is the same as your missiles.

this in no way undermines the point I make in: >>42427640

you say that like the onager wasn't under the cover of AA fire the entire time... and like having the ability to launch that much damage in one burst without worrying about chaff and anti-missile defenses (only hacking) is a bad thing!
>>
>>42427719
So I found out about this through lurking in the Floors threads, are you planning on making a Floors style game eventually?
>>
Time after time the Cognis' proved that it is a beast of a mech, one that shouldn't enter close range battle that's for sure, but even there it's capable of #rekt'ing the shit out of mechs built for CQB. I hope we don't face the RB-02 anytime soon, I hope we don't ever face a Cognis if Sergei keeps piloting after the quest ends(and he's still alive)
>>
>>42427836
Yeah. Cognis is BA. Thing is it's supposed to be a support mech. The other Prototype was slated to be the combat mech.
>>
>>42427836
Weren't they working on a second cognis thing in the very first (or was it second? It was right when we were escaping) thread?

It was called the Proxy or something?

Also, how the fuck does the cognis have the processing power to move itself without a server farm? The only time we saw a full blown mobile server farm it was a giant ass train?
>>
>>42427862
>Yeah. Cognis is BA. Thing is it's supposed to be a support mech. The other Prototype was slated to be the combat mech.
Other Prototype? That was supposed to be better at outright fucking shit up than us?

>>42427863
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

I gotta a bad feeling about this guys.
>>
>>42427877
>Other Prototype? That was supposed to be better at outright fucking shit up than us?
In combat? Yeah. It didn't have the satellite shooter, Ecm or hacking, but when we fought it was missing it's main weapons and over half it's armor. It was also unhackable.
>>
>>42427863
>Also, how the fuck does the cognis have the processing power to move itself without a server farm? The only time we saw a full blown mobile server farm it was a giant ass train?
Guess that'll be a next plot hook as we find a tech capable of working on the system, he'll tell us that the mech is gold or something and worth way more than what we initially sell it for.
>>
>>42427915
... why do I get the feeling we should have switched out our ECM package for that beam disperser now?
>>
>>42427792
You guys did a very good job of stun locking the Onager through EMP and hacking. He was lucky to get off as many shots as he did.

>>42427814
Yep. Cognis Quest is actually a beta test for my system. Once this quest is over, expect a full blown mecha mercs skirmish quest. And all those mechs you've seen in the almanacs, you'll be able to buy them and pilot them.

>>42427836
>>42427877
>:3

>>42427863
>Also, how the fuck does the cognis have the processing power to move itself without a server farm?

How indeed...

Also mechs can function without server farms, just not with enough speed and dexterity to make them combat effective.
>>
>>42427937
Beam disperser affect only energy weapons. Also that ion cannon has saved our ass, early and often. Besides beam dispersal does jack shit against Twin linked Railguns, and heavy missiles.
>>
>>42427945
>Also mechs can function without server farms, just not with enough speed and dexterity to make them combat effective.
So are there labor mechs then that operate without server farms?

The Anubis to our Jehuty
>>
>>42427989
Mechs without server farms handle like they've been soaked in concrete, so even non-military mechs would use supplemental computing.

In short: they can, but nobody operates them like that unless they have no choice.

Because of the image, I have to ask.

What's the space program like for this world? And are there orbital mechs? I mean last time we talked about the corporation who does aerospace AND mechs? So are there aerospace combat mechs?
>>
>>42428144
No orbital mechs, there are sub-orbital space planes but they are rare and expensive. The closest thing to a flying mech is Exo-Terra's Cirrus and that's less of a flyer and more of a WIGE style ground skimmer.

Space program thus far is a burgeoning communications satellite network controlled by the IF. They have the final word on what goes into space.
