You are death. You are the shadow that mortals fear when they are alone at night. You are the eyes peering from the darkness at innocent victims. You are a wraith of the Netherrealm, a servant of the darkest powers, a killer without peer.

You are Noob Saibot.

Once, in life, you were known by a different name: Bi-Han. But most knew you as Sub-Zero, the greatest assassin and thief of the Chinese Lin Kuei. You were killed at the Mortal Kombat tournament by the undead spectre of a man you yourself had once killed: Hanzo Hasashi, AKA Scorpion.

Your soul fell to the Netherrealm and you were reborn as Noob Saibot; servant of the demon sorcerer Quan Chi. Now, you are no longer burdened by pity, remorse, or hesitation to kill. You command the shadows and use them to stalk and murder your prey, all in the name of your dark masters.

You harbor ambitions of your own, however. You intend to, eventually, bow to no masters but yourself. Until you can amass enough power to overwhelm them, you will be a pawn in their game, a knife pointed at the backs of their enemies from the shadows. And you would be lying if you said that you didn't enjoy the killing.

And so you will do their bidding, for now.

You were personally summoned by the lord of the Netherrealm, the fallen Elder God Shinnok. He is the figure around which the Brotherhood of Shadow is centered. You entered the dark court of Shinnok, where he commanded you to retrieve Quan Chi.

Since the failed invasion of Earthrealm a few months ago, of which you were a prticipant fighting for the side of Outworld at the behest of your masters, Quan Chi has been a prisoner. The sorcerer was blinded and captured by the defenders and has since languished in the dungeons of the royal family's palace in the newly-restored realm of Edenia.

Your mission is to bring him back to the Netherrealm, back to Lord Shinnok's court. Alive. He requires the sorcerer's services. As much as you would enjoy finishing the demon yourself and being free from his service, you cannot escape Shinnok. Not yet.

And so, you are in Edenia, brought here by a portal conjured by Shinnok himself. It is night. The realm is sickeningly beautiful, a far cry from the darkened levels of the Netherrealm you have come to call home. You can use this to your advantage; the content and happy people will be unsuspecting of a wraith in their midst.

The palace, however, will be difficult and well-protected. First, you must get there.

The roads are well-kept, paved with carefully-placed stones. Small bridges stretch over peaceful streams, in which swim exotic and beautiful fish whose scales shimmer in the starlight. The trees, seemingly carefully placed and well-maintained, create still forests that only a master painter could capture the pristine nature of.

It is disgusting.

There is a man walking the roads, carrying a staff that resembles bamboo. He wears a thick robe and a wide straw hat. He walks alone down the road, humming a tune.

You stalk him for some time, ensuring that he is alone and weak. When he pauses to look down at a river, you crawl along the ground towards him as a shadow. You emerge from behind and rise up behind him. He shivers slightly and turns; you clasp a hand over his mouth and seep black oil inside. His eyes go wide as your oil clogs his throat, suffocating him.

You enjoy this the most: staring into his eyes. The last thing he sees are the piercing white orbs in the darkness that are your eyes. He falls to the ground, veins blackened, very much dead.

Moments later, you are wearing his robes. You pick up his hat. It reminds you of Raiden; the fool god of Earthrealm who once sent you into the Netherrealm to retrieve an amulet stolen by Quan Chi for his master, Shinnok.

But that was a lifetime ago, and now you serve the Brotherhood of Shadow.

Placing the hat on your head, you open a small portal beneath your dead victim, causing him to fall into your shadow-realm, where his body will quickly rot, his mass consumed and turned into raw shadowstuff. This is merely one of the new powers you have come to possess in unlife.

Now that you have your disguise, the palace is your next objective.

The palace itself is located between two mountains, with many cliffs set around it. The winding trail that leads up to the palace has a number of small towns and villages located along it. Approaching one of them from the side, fast and low, you hide in the shadows amongst two of the closer buildings and peer out onto the main street.

The road is surprisingly busy, as it turns out. A procession of people are walking away from the palace. They are dressed in elegant finery, and they speak of a fantastic sports spectacle that took place at the palace earlier that day. An older gentlemen stops to talk to one of the young attractive women of the village, and from them you overhear that it was a martial competition between the native edenians, a group of warriors from Earthrealm and some from Outworld.

Interesting... Perhaps some faces you know.

Most people are walking in the opposite direction of the palace, as opposed to towards it.

As you hide in the shadows, you close your eyes. When you open them back up, your obsidian-colored skin has been changed to a more human skin tone. You take off your mask and dull your eyes; you can now pass for human to the untrained eye.

You carefully avoid the people as you make your way over to the marketplace. There, you find a number of people making preparations for tomorrow. The caravans that will roll out tomorrow morning are very lightly-guarded; they are a very trusting people, the fools. They know not what lurks amongst them. The way they speak, with no subterfuge, makes it simple to eavesdrop on their conversations.

There is a merchant delivering barrels of supplies to the palace tomorrow morning for the breakfast and noon meals. You could sneak away on the caravan... if you feel up to waiting. Or you could go to the palace tonight; you have darkness and the fact that most of the palace's occupants will be asleep.

>A) Do not wait until morning; find a way into the palace tonight

You've no time to waste with these merchants. You make your way away from them and look around, up the path leading up to the palace. There are two guards walking from the town towards the palace; you could subdue both of them, and have you and your double wear the armor and infiltrate the palace. You could also attempt to scale the cliff behind the palace. The noble who was speaking to the maiden in the village is still here; you could "persuade" him to try to head back up to the palace and convince the guards to allow you entrance.

There may also be another entrance, if you search.

Allright let's think. We'll have to extract the blind and bound Quan Chi out of the palace.
In case we can't telaport him out, can free him to teleport out himself, then we'll have to do it the old fashioned way.

That leaves out the clifff scailing, two missing guards might raise too much suspicion, and they can't bring Quan Chi out.

Moving out of the town and dashing across the fields like a shadow, you reach the edge of the cliff. You quickly leap off the edge, keeping a hand alongside the stone wall, using it to slow your descent. There is a stone ledge, wide enough for a man to shimmy across, that will serve nicely.

You begin moving towards the palace. As you do so, a sudden shadow across the moon causes you to be still; out of the corner of your eyes, you see bird-like humanoids flying through the air. You have seen beings like this before; the white eagle-man, Asgaarth, was going to be executed before Shao Kahn in his arena, before the weakling with the lightning showed up and managed to cause a big enough distraction to escape with him. You almost personally killed him, before you were frozen, by a pretender to the Sub-Zero name... your younger brother, Kuai Liang. But those are thoughts for another time.

After pausing long enough to ensure that they are gone, you continue crawling towards the palace. Using your powers, you scale up the stone wall, melding your hands and feet into the stone as you slowly make your way upwards. Once at the top, with the raging waterfall behind you, you stick your head up over the balcony to survey your surroundings.

There are two guards here, discussing something. You cannot quite make them out over the sound of the waterfall. The area is dark, with very few torches and candles lit. You could ambush them, or wait for an opportunity to get by them, should you desire no chance of detection.

Not far away is a large garden with many overgrown bushes and flowers; you could climb over the wall there and see if the gardens hold an entrance to the palace proper.

Best to avoid any hints of detection for now. Nearing the gardens, you merge fully into the wall, becoming a black spot, a shadow that creeps along the stones. You move upwards, into the bushes of the garden. No longer flowing over stone, you now creep across the grass.

You reform out of the black mist, still wearing your disguise. You make your way through the nearly labyrinthine gardens, heading towards the palace, when you hear a noise: two people talking. As you slowly creep up to a large hedge, you peek out. Initially, you spy only a pair of sunglasses on the ground. They look familiar.

Then, you see them: two people, obviously of Earthrealm based on their attire. But you don't need visual cues to know where they are from, for you know who they are. Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. They were there with you at the Mortal Kombat tournament; you fought with the military woman briefly, when you wore blue instead of black.

Johnny approaches her, turns her around and embraces her. She buries her face in his chest and wraps her arms around him slowly; anyone with a beating heart would consider it sweet. But these two could present a nuisance. You mustn't draw their ire, as they are actually competent fighters.

They are also not far from the side entrance to the palace. At the south end of the gardens are a set of low balconies; you could easily scale up the wall, providing no one is looking, and make it to the second floor of the palace. From there, you would need to work your way down.

You elect to take the longer way through the gardens to minimize the chances of being detected by the two humans. Sneaking through the rows of hedges and flower arrangements, you work your way around towards the entrance--and then immediately hide in the shadows, blending in perfectly, as two more warriors emerge: Liu Kang and Kitana. The edenian princess leads the shaolin by the hand like a child, with a small smile on her face as she pulls him along into the gardens.

"This way, champion," she says in a slightly playful voice. He smirks and says nothing, allowing himself to be drawn into her game.

They pass by you without so much as noticing your presence, far too distracted by each other than to take full awareness of their surroundings. You could take advantage of that... but it is not your mission.

Still, perhaps Quan Chi can wait. It may be valuable to gather intelligence on the relationship between the princess and the shaolin.

Best not to take too long. But a little information will not be harmful.

You creep closer, finding that they have retreated into a gazebo, whose walls over overgrown with plants. You become as a shadow and crawl up the side of it, gaining a glimpse within and hearing their conversation.

"You fought well today, but I expected no less," she compliments him.

"Why did you decide not to fight me?" he asks. "I understand what you were attempting to do, but I am curious as to why."

"I do not wish to fight you, Liu Kang. I did once, when I had to keep up appearances for the Emperor. But no longer."

She reaches out and places a hand on his lap. "Now, I seek only your companionship."

"Princess... You know what I must say."

"And I know what you want to say," she counters. "It is the same words that I want to speak as well."

"The Order of Light--"

"Are not here," she says, growing close. "Here, you can be any man you want to be. I will never judge you, Liu Kang. I only know what my heart desires... that is why I did not wish to fight you."

"Kitana, I..." his voice trails off as her face grows close to his. She closes her eyes, silently pleading with him to take the initiative to return her feelings.

Surprisingly, he does. Their lips meet and their hands intertwine as moonlight streams in through the windows of the gazebo.

Your shadow crawls away. You can learn nothing more from these pathetic mortals. Were you capable of vomiting, you likely would. As you rematerialize in physical form and creep towards the entrance, you hide from another figure exiting; Kenshi. The psychic.

He may be problematic if he detects your presence; these Earthrealmers all present problems but he could be especially tricky. You need to get rid of him or get around him.

Though he may be blind, being robbed of his sight has only heightened the psychic power within him. You can sense it emanating from within the human even as you sneak by and elude his senses; you make it to the wall and leap upon it, scaling upwards towards the balcony. You waste no time and hop over, now upon the second floor of the royal palace.

Events are winding down for the day, it seems. As you sneak down the bare halls, you can hear voices from below. The Earthrealmers have been offered a chance to stay the night in the palace; some of them have accepted.

You pause near a staircase and hear Sonya Blade ordering two of her subordinates to return to the Nethership and establish a watch/rest cycle.

They have a Nethership? Of course... Shang Tsung's former boat. You rode upon it once to his island. If Quan Chi is too weak to create a way out, perhaps you could use it to escape to the Netherrealm... and the ship would make for a grand prize indeed, earning you much praise in the eyes of Lord Shinnok. You could also keep it for yourself...

But first, you need Quan Chi.

Carefully, you merge back within the shadows and prepare to search the palace for the entrance to the dungeons; you will also likely need a key of some sort. You must gather more information.

>>
>>42441637
To be fair, Shinnok and Quan Chi's control of Noob is very loose. He breaks free of it over time without either of them being aware in the original timeline, and the second either of them are forced to increase his power it immediately snaps their control and Noob turns on them as shown in his non-canon MKIX ending.

Besides, we've earned some snark. If Quan has a problem with it, we can leave him there.
>>
>>42437857
We can certainly try, but it should be pointed out that the two things that Sareena found attractive about Bi-Han were A) refusing to bow to Quan Chi, and B) being a mortal, and thus able to help her escape the Netherealm.

Opening the doors to the royal bedchambers, you find a large, ornate room with many decorations; tapestries, carpets and marble tables. There is one large bed, fit for a king and a queen, but there is another bed nearby.

Interesting. Apparently they do not sleep together.

Searching the room, you find a large mirror, in front of which is a chair and many jeweled combs and hair-related utilities. This must be where the queen has her hair done each morning--doubtless a difficult task for her handmaidens. There is a hairbrush here, sparkling with gems set within it. There is also a large wardrobe for the queen in a large closet near the mirror.

You steal the hairbrush, sliding it into a pocket alongside the interior of your sash.

Her wardrobe contains many dresses, none of which are particularly useful to your purposes. However, you discover a hidden box, in which there is a key. Taking it over to the locked chest, you discover that it fits within and the chest opens.

Within is an orb. You recognize it; it allows one to communicate across realms. This could be very useful... but it is rather large, and it glows with an ethereal light. You could deposit it into your shadowy realm, stealing it for your own, however. Provided they do not have a means to track it. And if you take Quan Chi and his sorcery away from them, you just may take their means to do so away from them.

Yes... this could be very useful indeed.

You take hold of the orb and drop it into a shadowy portal you create on the ground. As a physical item and a magical artifact, it will not be damaged in your oily realm. Afterwards, you close the chest, lock it and put the key back.

But as you do, suddenly one of Sindel's handmaidens enters the room. You slink back into the wardrobe as she enters and begins preparing the queen's chamber for the night. She lays out her bedsheets and comes towards the wardrobe to gather her nightgown.

As she grows near, you send your shadowy clone out behind her. It rises from the ground, its oily black skin shining in the darkness. She hears the soft bubbling from behind and is about to turn when you command him to take hold of her. She is about to scream; he clasps a hand over her mouth and keeps her quiet.

You emerge from the shadows, shedding your disguise. You approach her and take hold of her face, holding her eyes open as you stare into them.

"You will tell me where the dungeon is. Scream for help, and you will be dead before you hit the ground."

Tears stream down from the girl's eyes as Saibot takes his hand off of her mouth and she can breathe again. She futilely struggles as you force her to stare into your white eyes.

"Speak or die."

She manages to choke out, "The dungeon... downstairs, between the two dragon statues, a stairwell leads down... That's all I know, I swear! I d-don't work in the dungeons!"

You take hold of one of her hands. She shivers at your deathly cold touch.

"Answer me immediately or I will break one of your fingers. How is the sorcerer bound?"

"Th-the white one? I don't know! I swear!"

"Who works in the dungeons. Tell me."

She hesitates, not wanting to sell out her friends. You break a finger and Saibot muffles her screams as she cries through his black oily hand. She struggles, but you hold her in place and force her eyes open.

"That was one finger. You have more. Tell me what I want to know."

She whimpers and nods. Saibot takes his hand off of her mouth.

"There are... girls who bring food... workers who are accompanied by g-guards..."

"Tell me about the guards. The captain."

She hesitates, and you grab another finger. Her eyes widen and she speaks. "Captain Shendu! He has the key! He is downstairs--at the feast! That's all I know!" she cries.

You snap her broken finger back into place. You command Saibot to knock her out. She falls limp as he strangles her to unconsciousness; you then throw her on the queen's bed. You ensure that none of the oily substance remains on her body. You doubt she will kick up much fuss.

Saibot steps back into you, and you are once more Noob Saibot. You leave her behind and head for the upstairs.

Resuming your disguise, you proceed downstairs and stick to the shadowy corners. The feast is quite significant; there is much food and drink for all to partake in.

These edenians will grow fat if they continue to foolishly celebrate life.

Liu Kang and Kitana have returned; as have the other Earthrealmers. Queen Sindel sits upon a throne... alongside Ermac. This is interesting... you fought alongside the soul construct a few times. But now he is here, speaking to the queen, sitting in the king's chair.

You know not why, but you care little. You pick out the captain of the Edenian Knights; Captain Shendu is wearing regal purple armor and sits at the table, speaking to others. He is a tall, charismatic man. He drinks to a toast to the health of the people and tells a joke; many around him laugh.

You don't spy a key on his person or around his neck; it must be hidden somewhere in his armor or a pouch on his belt perhaps.

You bow your head and hide it as two edenian servants walk by; they place the food on the table and take empty dishes back to the kitchens.

You listen to the happy conversations, the toasts of merriment and joy, the laughter. The fish know not that a shark swims among them. You must continue to be careful, however--there are more powerful figures here than you thought. If Ermac now fights for the edenians, he would make for a challenging opponent on his own.

I honestly don't know, I certainly didn't expect Rain to last long in the court once the end of the Kaito quest revealed Ermac would be going back to being Jerrod.

Maybe it's just 'cause the most evil thing Rain's done so far is take out a hit on Kaito and he doesn't actively think about it.
>>
You slip into the halls and find the wine cellar. The man handling the wine here is easy enough to subdue; you knock him out and hide him in a corner. You then search the wine racks and find the vintage the captain was drinking.

You open it and hold a finger over the bottle's neck, allowing some of your tar-like essence to drip into it. The liquid turns darker, but not distractingly so. You then reseal it and bring it up to intercept the squire, placing it on the floor. When he arrives, the young man is curious as to why he wasn't handed it personally, but decides that it does not matter.

You shadow him back towards the main hall, but keep your distance; there are two telepaths in that room. You watch from the shadows as the wine is brought to the captain and poured in his glass. He talks for a while, not drinking, which irritates you. The charismatic man says another joke and those around him laugh, as does the princess nearby, who sits alongside Liu Kang.

Then, he drinks.

At first, nothing happens. But you can now feel him. Your eyes narrow as you slowly start to worm your way inside of him, causing the essence to make him feel slightly ill. His brow furrows and he puts a hand to his mouth; the others around him do not seem to take notice. He drinks more in an attempt to stifle this strange sensation, but that only furthers your own purposes with him.

Soon, he excuses himself. He coughs and heads towards a nearby exit, out into the courtyard. He is accompanied by a guard who goes to tend to him.

It is a trifling thing to sneak around the dining hall and get out into the courtyard. The captain is near some bushes, vomiting black filth out of his mouth. The other guard kneels next to him and asks if he should fetch someone.

You look around; the courtyard is bare, save for them both.

Jerrod is actually often quite distracted. Though he has the other 999 souls in line, they are still very obtrusive and speak with him often. If Ermac had been the star of this quest, we'd be getting options like,

>"You should go eat some of that food."
>"What are we doing just sitting here? We should take our wife dancing on the ballroom floor!"
>"I bet we could kill everyone here. We should try."
>"Let's have a drink! We haven't had a drink in ages."

>"That's disgusting! Stop thinking that!"
>"Hey, I'm in here too, deal with it."

Just as the servant girl said earlier, it is located between two dragon statues. It is also guarded. You slip by them easily enough, down into the shadows of the dungeon.

You slide over the stone floor like a black fog, slipping through the cracks of cells as you search for Quan Chi.

You slide up the wall and up towards the ceiling. Making your way towards Quan Chi's cell, you pass overhead of the guards and then move along undetected. Moving slowly to ensure that you make as little noise as possible, you are as silent as a shadow.

You reach the entrance to his cell and pass through the bars before crawling down to the floor and emerging from your flat shadow. Quan Chi is here. He is bound by manacles that cover his hands and feet that shackle him to the wall, and he wears a helm that covers his non-existent eyes.

But even without eyes, you cannot rob a sorcerer fully of his power. He slowly raises his head and smiles. "At last."

However, he is surrounded by something troubling. A circle of runes holds him in place, their magic preventing the casting of any spells and the disruption of any Netherrealm energies. Moving a hand towards him over the circle results in you losing substance; your hand turns to black tar and falls to the ground where it bubbles and shrivels up.

"Your sense of timing is impeccable," Quan Chi whispers so that the guards may not hear. "I have a means to disrupt these runes. I have made an arrangement with the prince Rain. Find him and tell him that it is time. He will free me."

"Once I am free," he nods. "Now go."

You'd rather be the latter, but right now, you are the former. "Put down your hands. You would not win. I am here for the sorcerer."

He lowers his arms, realizing who you are. However, he still feels the need to assert himself due to his pride. "You would have a greater battle than you know, wraith. I am a son of Argus."

"That would mean something to me if I knew who that was."

"He was the protector god of Edenia! You speak to a half-god," he says.

"I was wrong about what I said," you admit, and he seems pleased. "It still means nothing to me. You will free the sorcerer and then I will not have to look at your face any longer."

He narrows his eyes before straightening his purple cape. "Very well. But not because of any demand you make, wraith. I have an arrangement with the sorcerer."

"You waste my time. I will shadow you into the dungeons."

You sink into the ground before he can reply; you then attach yourself to his shadow, hiding within it. He watches this and makes no comment; he then travels towards the palace.

Once inside, he heads straight for the dungeons, moving past the two guards at the top of the stairs. Once in the dungeons proper, he moves towards the demon's cell and prepares to walk past the four guards, but they stop him.

"You are not cleared to speak with the prisoner," one tells him.

"But I do have clearance," he says. "Here, let me show you."

He punches one in the face and then blasts another with water. The fool is making his move without your consent; you must act quickly to ensure that neither of you are detected. You leap out of his shadow and prepare to fight.

Fucking brutal

You command Saibot to leap towards him, losing his physical form as he does. He covers the final guard in black tar, which then seeps inside of him through his mouth. He drops his polearm to the ground as you force your shadowy half deeper and deeper down his throat; he begins to panic and choke, grabbing at his throat and trying to clos his mouth. You clench your fist and smile as you seep deeper and deeper within, into his lungs, his heart, his blood.

You open your hand and Saibot blasts out from behind his eyes, leaving a drained corpse behind. The body, its veins blackened and his skin pale, falls to the ground as Saibot bleeds out of his eye sockets before walking towards you and rejoining your mass, making you whole once more.

Rain looks at you with wide, amethyst eyes. Unnerved by the depraved brutality of your methods, he straightens and regains his composure before remarking, "You leave quite the mess, don't you?"

You narrow your white eyes as you look at him before holding up a hand. You conjure four dark portals beneath each of the corpses; they are all dragged into the black realm in which you were reborn. "Cleaner than you."

You and he approach the cell door where Quan Chi sits waiting. You unlock the door and Rain steps into the cell before blasting the ground with high-intensity water, cutting apart the carved runes and breaking the seal.

You push past him and unlock the shackles on Quan Chi. With his hands free, he smiles and rubs his wrist; you then take off his helm. His blackened eye sockets do not dampen his mood; he is elated.

"You will be rewarded for this, Rain," he says. "As we agreed."

"Leave no traces," Rain warns. "Leave Edenia tonight."

"I have no intention of staying here any longer," Quan Chi replies. Rain leaves, vanishing into a puddle of water along the ground.

"Bring me to the ship," Quan Chi orders you.

Taking hold of the sorcerer, you open a portal down below. You cannot teleport for great distances, but you are able to get outside of the palace walls and into the gardens. Further teleportation over a range as great as that will tax your powers, however. Quan Chi cannot see, so you must guide him out of the gardens. Opening up a portal, the armor of one of the edenian guards you killed earlier is expelled back into the physical world. You loath having to dress the sorcerer, but it is necessary to your escape. Once this is done, you prepare to leave the gardens and make for the exit.

"Play your part," you tell the sorcerer, who is silent and keeps his head down, obscured by the helm he wears. You set him to walk forward and tell him to do so and nothing else.

Still in your disguise from earlier, you leave the palace grounds following the sorcerer as he walks through the front gate. Though he is blind, all he need do is walk forward, past the other guards. You play the part of a party guest accompanying him; a hand on his shoulder and silent conversation handles the rest of it. You subtly instruct him on where to go and guide him along until you reach the bottom of the trail and can shed your disguises.

Once you are both free from the restrictive clothing, you make your way through the forest. Along the way, Quan Chi speaks.

"You have done well, my wraith. I will reward you greatly when Lord Shinnok restores my eyes."

You say nothing. It is ironic that once you fought against this sorcerer and his Brotherhood of Shadow, but now take orders from them and you must save his life.

You reach the edge of the clearing and look out onto the still lake upon which rests the Nethership. You can spy some Special Forces personnel upon it; members of the OWEA. The ship is docked at the end of a large pier, and a base camp has been built on shore.

You report it to Quan Chi. "Kill them all," he orders you. "Take no prisoners. We must escape. Once I am onboard, I will use my magic to take us to the Netherrealm."

Dude This Noob quest has been rather full of jokes like that, nice change of pace.
>>
For the record, when we come back as Lizard Wizard Kaito, our first goal is to shanghai Kenshi into helping us gain a group for this right?
Also, I've been kicking around Ophidian or Basilisk as a name for a cover identity.
Ophidian meaning "snake-like" and Basilisk being a magical chicken-lizard
>>
>>42460989
We need Turana's dark sorcery expertise as well. I was thing Python or something, but Ophidian the tempter is too good.
>>
>>42460989
What did we decide for Kaito's new form?
>>
>>42460989
Just for the record we have no idea how altered will be the alternate reality we turn up in.
Anyone could be dead, or worse, and anyone could be an ally.

>>42461070
Saurian and Soul Construct were the most popular, but decision will only be made after the side quests.

Also I still can't figure out what constitutes as "sorcery power".
>>
>>42461228
That one worries me. Quan Chi and Tsung studied for centuries at least. I don't want to go into this with nothing but level 0 home economics spells. But a quick boost there might require deals with things. I'm cool with upping Water or getting our electricity from a new source. Or boosting healing
>>
>>42461228
I still hope Soul Construct takes it. It's more practical and a better use of our time, honestly.
>>
>>42461228
Well we're coming back here man, the body is just being made in an alt reality
>>
>>42461464
>>42461548
My understanding was it's not so much "being made" as we're stealing the body of a person who already exists...and who may or may not be that reality's version of Kaito?

So I would presume that with the body we'll also get to keep its memories of how to use its powers or spells.
>>
>>42460989
>>42461046
Until we know what kind of monster we're dealing with I say we keep old friends out of this.
>>
>>42461585
>Since we can't put you back in your old body, we're going to have to make you a new one, in a parallel reality. We're then going to send that body to your home dimension

Oh crap you are right! This changes a thing or two
>>
>>42461685
Yeah, somewhere in the infinite multiverse is an Earthrealm where, for example, the dominant species is Raptors and Kaito is a lizard wizard, and Chronosis is gonna let us hijack his meatsuit, have an adventure in OUR universe, and then bring it back to the same time and place we got it from with no one in lizard-wizard-world being any the wiser.
>>
>>42461228
>how altered will be the alternate reality
Calling it now, we'll end up in the reality were Kaito got maximum harem ending.
>>
>>42461742
Except Saurian isn't a sure thing and is honestly a poor choice for a new form in the long run.
>>
>>42461765
Well that was just an example. I don't particularly favor going Raptor either, but it does seem popular.
>>
>>42461671
So, Reptile and Tanya as travelling companions? Kaito knows next to nothing about her, Reptile would likely just be overjoyed to have a pal again.
It's either that or Tanya and Rain, who probably wouldn't go for it as a group.
Price of befriending EVERYTHING
Wait, Kano still owes Kaito a favor.
>>
>>42461822
Working with the Black Dragon for abit would be cool, but remember we also need a way to get to the Jinsei as well since that's where Raiden stashed our body.
>>
>>42461790
I was fine with going human and claiming to be Kaito's bro. Granted there's no reason we can't as a lizard as long as we preface it with adopted.
>>
You know, if we choose lizard, we could get a free pass on helping Khameleon with her -ahem- population issue.
>>
>>42461822
Perhaps, honestly we might want to go at it alone for a bit.
>>
>>42461905
Further reason not to. They'd likely explose due to being half alt. reality. No reason to let her deal with them detonating in her or whatever
>>
>>42461876
I'm in favor of pretendingto be a friend of Kaito.
>>
>>42461968
"We learned from the same teacher"
>Cue wrecking things with Bloody Hands
>>
>>42461876
I still think Soul Construct is the best option:
They're hard as hell to kill.
It doesn't require jacking an alternate universe body. (The only rule bending we'd need really is making a Soul Construct out of a single soul.)
Since it wouldn't require jacking an AU body, there'd be much less anti-matter effect on the universe in general.
When we find our body, we don't leave a left over meat suit, we can just bond with our body entirely since we're made of soul energy.
It gives us a "Plan B" when we do return to life since If Kaito ever dies or anything, his body should remember how to Soul Construct and we can return to that form.
We have all the sorcery options available to any other form, on top of Hado-Energy manipulation.
>>
>>42462057
We'd lose out on some of the inherent stealth benefits though, they both have strengths and weaknesses.
>>
>>42462057
Eh, maybe, personally I was down for just water manip as a soul construct and badgering water spirits into temp bonding.
>>
>>42462057
Also let's not forget tha hopefully, HOPEFULLY, it can be done without posessing another Kaito.
Let's not pretend that tearing out Kaito's alternate self from it's world wouldn't have unfavorable effects on it.
I mean what would have happened if this Kaito would have been torn out of his reality when he was saving Smoke, or Sub-Zero, or Liu Kang, or Turana? or was fighting Shao Kahn, or when was convincing Mileena.
>>
>>42462331
If it does involve possessing another Kaito, we take the Kaito from the universe where he's a dick and became Kaito Kahn, oppressing outworld and earthrealm with his rule.
>>
>>42462331
Pretty sure Chronosis can manipulate time so we return the body to the same moment we took it from.

And for the record, we don't HAVE to be a Raptor or Cyberninja to be able to turn invisible. Tanya could do it in Deception.
>>
>>42462423
Now THAT's a neat idea.

>>42462427
Maybe it doesn't have to be racial, but there has to be some skill that is required. And don't forget the shape-shifting
>>
>>42462486
>And don't forget the shape-shifting
Pretty sure only certain ones get Shape-Shifting. Reptile can't do it outside of devolving.
>>
>>42462486
>but there has to be some skill that is required

Spellcasting is a skill.
>>
Let's see, Kenshi's a telepath, Sareena can see souls, Ermac is a psychic MADE of souls and can sense them.
Jade, Mileena, Khameleon, and Kitana are all trained assassins and are likely familiar with interrogation techniques and know what tells are, particularly when they're being decieved.
Sheeva's not bad at the whole "sense motive" thing. And of the available cast Tortek knows Kaito best and is unlikely to fall for whatever sneaky crap we're at least going to start off with.
The one style we know has been used to kick both Rain and Reptile's asses repeatedly to the point they can probably recognize it.
Kitana is probably also familiar with Bloody Hands due to how long we worked with her.Jade may or may not remember her fight with Kaito. And Tanya's seen it in action at least once or twice.
Same for Johnny, Liu and Mileena.
Also Kung Lao.
Conclusion?: It doesn't matter what we do, we'll be recognized at some point.
>>
>>42462577
No mention of Turana, really?
>>
>>42462567
Oh come on. How many abilities are listed under "Spellcasting" or "Sorcery"?
>Shapeshifting
>Teleporting
>Conjuring weapons/items
>Raising Dead
>Fireballs
>Life Draining
>Telekinesis
Why not slap in half-god for good measure?
>>
>>42462577
At least in Mileena's case we have the whole "berserker" thing she does in fights to maybe protect against that. But she's also seen it when she's not in RIP AND TEAR! mode.
>>
>>42462656
Let's be an unknown bastard son of argus with the ability to control the weather!
>>
>>42462577
Only if we encounter them, do business with them. Neither of them is required.
Bloody Hands can be explained, I mean it can't be that secluded style, and even if it is, half of the people on the list aren't familiar with Earthrealm too much. Who is to say it isn't a common fighting style? No one ever actually asked about Kaito's homeland.
>>
>>42462655
She has the least likelihood of remembering a specific style, though anything resembling prolonged interaction might give us away, she's likely to put it down to how much she misses us. She's logical first and foremost anon, the others trust their instincts to varying degrees.
>>
>>42462656
I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing. All I'm saying is, "sorcerer" is one of our powerset options, and if we take it, we can have every special move under the sun.

I don't want to, mind you. I want to be something that doesn't exist in MK yet, like controlling magnetism or gravity or plants or some shit...

So if it's vitally important we have the ability to turn invisible, then we can do it the way Tanya does it, by being a generic-ass wizard.

Or we could be an Enenra. Smoke can turn invisible.

Or we can have solar powers and one of our moves can be bending light around us.
>>
>>42462765
I'd like to agree, because Wizard Kaito has really high badass points, in my opinion.
However, I can't because it just feels like cheating. Cheating death, and getting unimaginable power.
Also if we ever get back into the original body, we will really miss those powers.

I've been thinking up a few powers, and it was one of them.
>>
>>42462723
Nah, the only ones on the list that would know or be able to guess at it being a family style are all the Earthrealmers, our childhood pal Kenshi knows our dad only had the one kid, and only taught us.
Ermac might realize maybe.
So it comes down to if Liu and Kitana ever had a talk about Kaito. And what that entailed.
Tortek and Taruna spent enough time around us that it likely came up in downtime. We did talk a bit about it to Bo Rai Cho when we first met him I think. Tortek was there for that, depends on if he remembers.
>>
>>42462875
Man, we still need to send Sub-Zero to him.
>>
>>42462672
Then we show Rain-senpai?
>>
>>42462890
I'm pretty sure that our fighting style, or family status didn't come up with Bo Rai Cho, hence Tortek wouldn't know how well spread it is either.

We could ask for a mental shield against Kenshi and Ermac.

All the others? Even on the slim chance they recognize it, they don't know the origins of the style, or how many are using it. I'm sure we can conjure something up about ancient scrolls.

There is no definite proof that we aren't who we say we are.
>>
>>42463046
I don't even care if we get recognized honestly. We'll just tell them we'll explain when it isn't reality threatening to do so.

I'd like to keep up the facade, and then tell it all once everything is back in it's place.

The soldiers are well-trained. Not easily caught off-guard. But they cannot see everything at once. Taking your shadow form once more, you slide onto the deck and slip by two of them when they separate and look in different directions. As you do, one of them comments that in a place like this, the chance of encountering hostiles seems almost zero.

The irony is delicious.

You slip down below the deck and into a cabin where you reform. Now, to find the captain of this vessel. Pushing open the door and walking down the hall, you enter a large cargo section of the ship that Shang Tsung modified and turned into an arena. It has been repurposed as a communications center now, with two soldiers acting as staff members operating the equipment and the acting captain, a lieutenant with a metal arm, standing by.

Widening your palm, a shuriken made out of concentrated shadowstuff to be hard as metal is formed.

It's time to get to work doing what you do best.

Lance charges in with his electrified metal fist and attempts to punch you, you instead turn to the side and dodge it, and at the same time use the shuriken you made earlier to slash his throat.

Lance falls to the ground, surprise apparent in his wide eyes, as he holds his bleeding throat.

Saibot holds up another soldier and you form a shuriken and toss it into his skull, killing him as well. The second soldier reaches for his pistol and fires; you fall backwards into a portal on the ground and appear behind him.

You and Saibot both grab onto him and hold him in place as you form another shuriken and slash his throat, holding his head back to allow the wound to tear a bit.

Sylence looks up and sees all this happen. She shouts in anger as she gets back up, holding her punching daggers at the ready. "You... you're going to pay for that! I'll make you pay, you bastard!"

Saibot steps back within you as you wave her forward, challenging her.

She leaps forward to attack, but you teleport away, stepping behind her. She slices backwards, but again you vanish away from her, laughing as you do. You emerge from above, leaping down at her.

You conjure Saibot, who appears behind her and grabs her. You then punch her in the face, breaking her nose. Saibot then pulls back on her arms and knees her in the spine, causing her to cry out. You then kick her in the stomach, causing her to vomit onto your leg.

You have Saibot throw her aside and you laugh as she falls; the shadowy clone then slides back into your feet.

You approach her as she struggles to get back up.

Grabbing her, you hold her in front of you as two more soldiers run downstairs. You use her as leverage by holding a blade to her throat and threatening them. Working your way back up to the main deck, you threaten to kill her if they do not get off the boat.

Sylence attempts to communicate with them, but you and Saibot hold her throat closed. You force them to back up until they are off the ship and in their base camp.

You only have a few short minutes before Sonya and her team arrive. Using your power, you create a portal for Quan Chi to step through. He falls on the deck, being blind, and you shout at him, "Now, sorcerer! Take us to the Netherrealm!"

He immediately begins chanting, placing his hands upon the enchanted wood of the vessel. Fog begins to encircle it.

"Release her!" one of the soldiers orders as they aim at you.

She continues to struggle, even as you hold the blade up to her neck. Admirable, but futile.

The ship is completely encased in fog as it pulls away from the pier. Quan Chi continues his chanting as you find a rope and tie her up.

She may prove useful. She struggles right now, but you will change that, given enough time and the right circumstances. You bind and gag her and lock her in a closet.

At that moment, however, you see a green flash on the wall alongside you. You turn to find the yellow cyborg, Cyrax, teleported onto the ship. He sees you and recognizes you.

Both of you are former assassins of the Lin Kuei, both in more powerful forms. You curse your luck; if Sylence had not snuck up on you, you would not have set off any alarms and he likely would not have teleported here.

Oh, well. He is an annoyance at best; even when you were alive, you were a greater warrior than Cyrax.

"Bi-Han," he says, looking upon you. "You don't have to do this."

"That is where you are wrong, machine," you tell him. "You should have stayed on shore. Now you will die."

One of his hands transforms into a rotating sawblade and the other pulls out a green pulse blade. "Then allow me to finish you once and for all," he says.

You rush forward and kick him off the side of the boat.

Huh. Well that was almost too--

Suddenly, he teleports back on; his body parts flying apart and reconnecting on the deck. He slashes at you with his pulse blade, cutting your back.

So, he's not going away that easily it seems.

You send Saibot to tackle him; he cuts the shadowy clone in half, but you throw a portal beneath him and one above you. He falls through and you uppercut him, sending him flying across the deck.

The mist is almost complete; you may have an opportunity to throw him off before the ship completely vanishes, thus preventing him from teleporting back on.

Timing it well, you sent Saibot to tackle him off the side of the ship just before the transit to the Netherrealm. You then open a portal and send Cyrax as far from the ship as possible while summoning Saibot back to you.

The plan works. Cyrax is unable to recover before the ship completely vanishes from Edenia. You laugh to yourself; one less Earthrealmer to deal with... for now.

Minutes later, you are in hell once more. The Netherrelam, infinite in size, stretches before you in all directions. Mountains of fire, rivers of lava and red skies greet you.

This was the place of your death, and rebirth. It's good to be home.

The ship is sailing down a black river of lost souls towards a spire that reaches higher than the eye can see; Shinnok's spire. Time to return the sorcerer to his master and be done with this mission.

The nethership is docked at the base of the spire. Once you are within, you take Quan Chi and guide him to the great lift that will bring you to Shinnok's throne room. Along the way, you pass by demons and other various monsters of the Netherrealm.

The lift takes some time, but you reach the top and are brought into Shinnok's throne room by Brotherhood of Shadow warriors. There, upon his great throne, sits Shinnok, fallen Elder God, ruler of the Netherrealm and one of the most powerful beings in all the realms.

Quan Chi steps forth, sensing the presence of his master. "Lord Shinnok, I--"

Shinnok raises a hand and blasts Quan Chi with fire, forcing him down onto his knees. "I did not grant you permission to speak, cur. You will kneel before your god."

"Yes, Lord Shinnok," he gasps out. "I... am your humble servant."

"You are neither humble nor a particularly valuable servant to me any longer," Shinnok says. "You promised me that Outworld and Earthrealm would be weak for invasion. Instead, Edenia is reborn and you are blinded, captured and forced to aid the living. You are only free because I demanded it."

"Lord Shinnok... I have served you well, I have--"

"You will serve me no longer," Shinnok says. Three demons appear from the corners of the room; monstrous creatures, brutish and unwholesome in appearance. "But I have need of your power. You, however, have failed me for the last time."

Quan Chi looks desperate. He reaches into his sash and produces an amulet; Shinnok's amulet, one that looks exactly like the one atop the lord's staff. "You cannot harm me!" he says. "I have your true amulet! The one I gave to you was false, a replica I created!"

You remember your role in these events; Quan Chi hired you to break into an ancient temple and defeat four gods; you did this, and he then stole the amulet to give to his master. Raiden commanded you to enter the Netherrealm and retrieve it; you did this. Now, it appears the one you stole was not real.

Shinnok looks at him and laughs, loud enough to echo throughout the wide throne room. "Do you think you can deceive the ultimate deceiver, you foolish sorcerer? I always knew you were planning to usurp me when given the chance. What you do not know is that I knew the amulet you gave to me was fake. I switched them without you knowing. And so, I allowed you to continue this game, waiting for the moment you would reveal yourself. But I must say, now that the moment has arrived, it is much sweeter than I imagined."

Quan Chi attempts to call Shinnok on his bluff, casting a spell through his amulet. Shinnok, still sitting very casually, points his staff at Quan Chi and counters his spell with one of his own; the amulet in the demon's hands breaks into pieces. Quan Chi looks up at him and begins to grovel.

"Mercy! Mercy, oh lord of darkness, oh great one! I will never fail you again!"

"No, you shall not."

He blasts Quan Chi with a green spike of energy. The demon screams as his body is torn apart; three different sides of him split from each other and crawl towards the demons. The white flesh of the sorcerer wraps around their bodies, transforming them.

Each of the three demons, minor sorcerers in their own right, are empowered by the flesh of Quan Chi. They attain humanlike form, and are granted greater levels of sorcerous power. Each of them is not individually as powerful as Quan Chi, but all three combined are just as strong, if not more powerful.

Shinnok holds up a hand. "Behold, the brothers Chi: Nak, Torn and Zarr. Let the death of Quan be a reminder to all that I will never grant mercy or forgiveness for failure. I will, however, reward success. Noob Saibot, approach my throne."

You do so and kneel before him; behind you, the three Chi brothers kneel as well.

"I promote you, Noob Saibot, to the lead enforcer of my Brotherhood of Shadow. You command all my shadow assassins, stalkers and killers. And I grant to you a new power, fitting of your role."

He holds up his amulet staff and washes you with a wave of purple energy. You feel empowered, stronger than before. "You may now convert the living into wraiths," he says, "wraiths that will serve you and my Brotherhood of Shadow."

"Thank you, Lord Shinnok."

"And now, I have another task for you," he says. "It has come to my attention that upon the realm of Earth, one of our own demons has allied with your former Lin Kuei."

"Not my Lin Kuei," you reply. "This is a pretend clan, formed by my naïve brother."
>>
>>42466182

"It matters little," Shinnok dismisses the difference. "What does matter is this demon, a former assassin belonging to us, is now teaching mortals the tactics and powers of the Brotherhood of Shadow. I will send you to Arctika. You will find her and destroy her. From what I understand, she has been troublesome. Converting her is of no use; she has fallen from my graces twice now. Go to the temple this clan nests in and kill the one known as Sareena."

You know her well. She fell in love with you during your first trip to the Netherrealm.

"It will be my pleasure, Lord Shinnok."

You take your leave of him, walking past the three sorcerers. When you take the lift down, you reflect on your new assignment. Sareena is your target, but perhaps you can destroy this new false Lin Kuei as well, and your brother along with it.

You reach the base of the spire and approach the Nethership. You open the cabin which contains Sylence. She looks up at you with fearful eyes.

"Prepare yourself, mortal," you say as you lean down. "Now, you will serve me."

You place your hands on either side of her face. She struggles as your dark essence seeps over her flesh, transforming her. Her scream becomes muffled as your oil covers her mouth and runs down her throat. You smile as you slowly, agonizingly convert her into a wraith. The sensation for you is exquisite. After completely encasing her, inside and out, you let go.

The oil-black body begins to move; the oil runs away from her skin and bleeds inside of her body. Her already-pale skin is now even whiter and her eyes are pure white. All color is gone from her skin and clothing; she now wears black and her outfit bears the symbol of the Brotherhood of Darkness.

She opens her eyes and looks at you.

"What is your bidding, my master?" she asks with a smile.

Yes, this new power will do nicely. Perhaps you need not destroy this new Lin Kuei... but instead, make them serve you.

That's all for this weekend, folks. I know that the last character quest was longer, but I had a four-day weekend then. This was a lot of fun and it was a nice change of pace to play the bad guy.

Comments? Concerns? Criticisms? I'm open to any and all before the thread closes.

Also, I made this for you guys, to explain how Mileena's changing appearance throughout various games/media will be incorporated into the quest's canon. It's not canon by itself by any means, it's just how I chose to handle it.

I will also make a poll for the next character quest shortly.
