You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

Currently, you were combating a gauntlet of OB's best fighters. However, after managing to shoot down Babylon, you were in the middle of a dogfight with Lancer when a new challenger appeared out of nowhere, shooting down Lancer without a second thought and then immediately gunning after you. You don't have much time to wonder what's going on, as you jerk your stick with pure reflex as you see a blinding, blue white beam shoot above your cockpit, forcing you to flip down your protective visor.

"Jager, I hope you got Milly already!" You yell.

"Not yet! These OB bastards are putting up a fight!" Jager grunts over the sound of gunfire. "We need a couple more minutes!"

You're not sure if you even have that much time.

"Valkyrie, you need help?" Wolf asks. "Come on! Just give us the word!"

>Call in Wolf. You need help.

Well, any semblance of this being a "fair" fight went straight out the window. With your Morgan damaged, and facing down a brand new plane that's literally appeared out of nowhere, you weren't in the mood to play "fair" either.

"Yeah Wolf, I need some help right the hell now!" You grunt as you see another beam of light lance past your right wing, singing off some of the paint.

"All right, we're coming in! ETA thirty seconds!" Wolf announces. "That bastard won't know what hit him!"

"That's assuming I survive until then." You grown. Thirty seconds was a long, LONG time...

Of course, those kinds of suits are pretty much custom made for the individual (Either sprayed on with a hose, or the pilot stepping into a machine that 'makes' the suit over them) and they probably can't wear any clothes underneath the suits.

With a specialized, long range weapon like a laser, you figure that you would have better odds taking on the enemy plane at close range rather than trying to run away from it. Unlike missiles or bullets, lasers hit their targets almost instantly. No time to dodge or spoof them, nor did the enemy have to worry about leading his shots. You didn't have the same luxuries.

You pull on your stick to point your nose directly at the oncoming enemy plane, pulling a quick aileron roll to dodge another laser blast. As the plane shoots past, you have a small window to try and get on his tail.

You hit your flaps as hard as they can go, putting your Morgan into a vicious high-G turn as you try to leverage the Morgan's exceptional maneuverability to your advantage. You can hear the damaged hull of your plane groan and warp under the stress, but it holds.

Suffice to say, your own body barely holds as well as you try to fight the sensation of blood literally being pulled out of your brain. However, you manage, just like your plane, and you can see the twin vectored thrust engines of the plane in front of you. You trigger finger tightens as you arm your guns.

You press down on the trigger, unleashing a flurry of tracers at the plane in front of you. Already, you can see his engines flare as he tries to accelerate away from you, but it's too late. You see bullets rake across the fuselage, punching holes all along the length of the plane. You see one engine catch fire, much to your delight.

However, the plane immediately pulls a Cobar maneuver. An impossibly fast one which by all rights should have mulched whoever was flying it. He somehow manages to turn it into a climbing half loop.

"Target is moving away at high speed!" Loki announces. "And on just one engine too... what kind of plane is that?!"

"Don't worry, we're on him!" Wolf whoops as you see his flight of Raptors shoot past you. "He's not getting away from us!"

"Valkyrie, Wolf Team, be advised, I'm picking additional contacts on radar. Four squadrons of fighters closing in on all sides. You need to hurry or they'll box you in!" Loki warns.

"Of course." Wolf laughs. "I like those odds."

"Wolf, don't you dare steal my kill!" You growl as you hit your own afterburners to catch up. "I got dibs on him!"

"Ha, really? Valkyrie?" Wolf chuckles. "But he' such an inviting target!"

"And we're going to need somebody to punch a hole for us to escape out of." You point out.

"True..." Wolf sighs. "Fine, we'll give it to you just this once! Happy hunting!"

You see Wolf and his Raptors pull away, zooming back the direction you had come from to engage one of the enemy squadrons. This let you focus on your quarry ahead. The mystery plane was still tagged on your HUD, a single flare of its engine signalling its position. You try to get a radar lock on it, but your targeting system was having trouble. Some kind of stealth feature maybe? You could try firing off your missiles anyways and hope the IR seekers would get him, though...

You fire off two standard missiles and a QAAM. Predictably, your standard missiles fail to get a lock and whistle off uselessly into the sky. However, your QAAM is a different story, shooting out and immediately sniffing out the retreating plane like a hungry hunting hound. The mystery plane attempts to pull a high-G turn to outmaneuver the missile, it's flaps and control surfaces work furiously to put it in a tighter turn, but the QAAM proves to be too agile, even for it. The missile briefly overshoots the target, but it just as quickly whips back around in a tight loop, finding its home right up the mystery plane's last remaining engine, blowing it apart like glass.

You heart flutters as you see the mystery plane going down, but even then, you can tell it's attempting a controlled landing. It wasn't as dead as you thought it was.

You glance at your radar. The enemy contacts were converging on you fast.

"Enemy reinforcements are converging on you fast!" Loki says rather unhelpfully. "Valkyrie, you need to turn around and get out of there!"

"What about Milly?" You ask.

You decide that Loki was right. Your object was already complete, and it was worth risking your own life trying to chase this guy down. His plane was basically mission killed anyways. However, that didn't mean you couldn't take a parting shot. You fire off a trio of missiles again before performing a hard turn to get away from the approaching OB reinforcements. All the while, you keep an eye on your radar, which keeps track of your missiles' path.

You watch as your missiles sail away. However, two of them are unable to get a lock after having been fired in such haste, and explode harmlessly in the air. However, one of you missiles catches the mystery plane's scent, plunging into its left forward canted wing and snapping it off like a twig. The plane's descent becomes remarkably less controlled, but you don't have time to sightsee as three squadrons' worth of OB planes bear down on you. You hit afterburners and boost away as hard as your engines could take you.

However, the same burst of corrupted machine code blasts through your radio, causing you to wince. Seems like whoever was piloting that thing wanted to let you know that it, whatever it was, was still ticking.

What the hell was that thing, anyways?

"We took care of the squadron coming up behind us, so our path of retreat is clear!" Wolf says proudly.

"Good job, Wolf." You grin. "And our package?"

"Safe and sound." Jager announces. "We're on terrain following so the OB planes shouldn't be able to spot us. We'll meet you back at base."

"How about Milly? Is she all right?" You ask with concern.

"She's alive." Jager says bluntly. "No signs of serious injury, but she's definitely been roughed up. Signs of sleep deprivation and malnourishment, too."

Those bastards.

"Can she talk?" You ask, wanting to hear her voice again.

"She passed out in the middle the retrieval attempt. Medic recommends we don't try and wake her up." Jager responds.

Damn

"We'll stick around in case any of those OB guys try to snoop around." You say. "No guarantee they won't spot you, even on terrain following."

"Noted and appreciated." Jager says happily.

"Hey Valkyrie, are you sure you should be flying out there? I can see some pretty obvious damage on your bird." Wolf says worriedly.

"Nah, it's fine." You say, checking all of your gauges and displays. Sure, there were a few parts of the plane not at peak performance, but there was nothing absolutely crippling. "I'm still good to fly."

"All right then." Wolf says, not quite convinced.

Well, it sounded like it was time to CHANGE THE SUBJECT.

You think about a bit. Lara was basically a kid living the dream of being an ace fighter pilot. It would stand to reason that she could be distracted and entertained as easily as a kid. Hell, you've had firsthand experience of that already.

"You know, that sounds oddly fitting, actually." You nod. "All the sugary foods, the thrill rides, she'd freaking love it there. That's a good pick, Wolf."

"Really?" Wolf audibly sighs in relief.

"Now, don't go boasting about it everybody." You warn. "You should know how people who boast about their girlfriends end up in this line of work."

"I'm well aware of that." Wolf laughs.

"Hey, Loki." You glance at your radar when you see a quartet of contacts closing in on your position. "Are was supposed to have incoming?"

"That's just the Butterflies coming to escort you the rest of the way." Loki explains. "So don't fire on them!"

"Gee, you could've told us this earlier." You shake your head.

"Vaaaaaaalkyrie!" You hear Thunder say happily as her Nosferatu shoots past your formation. "Long time no seeeee!"

"Hey, girls." You laugh. "So how have things been?"

"Well well well, Lightning here was using her EW suite to listen in on the comm channels and she heard you and Wolf talking about Stripes!" Thunder announces happily.

Aw crap.

"A-a-a-are you really gonna d-date her?!" Lightning asks, clearly flustered.

"Pah! A guy like Wolf isn't good enough for a lady like Stripes!" Dawn grumbles.

"The fact that they were shooting each other kind of helped." You admit.

"Yeah, t-that was odd!" Lightning agrees. "We were l-looking at Loki's radar data. We didn't know how you s-shot down Lancer at first!"

"Whoever that guy was, he wasn't elegant at all!" Dawn huffs. "It's a good thing you shot him down! That'll teach him a lesson!"

You couldn't bring yourself to tell her that you had the feeling that wasn't the last you saw of that mystery plane.

The rest of the flight mostly consisted of the Butterflies continually pestering Wolf by telling him that if going to the amusement park with Lara wasn't a date, then he shouldn't have any problem bringing them along as well, with Wolf trying to talk his way out of it. His first and last mistake.

"How do you deal with this brats?" Wolf groans.

"I don't. I just give them what they want." You laugh.

"I'm pretty sure that's not how you're supposed to set an example for children." Jager joins in on the conversation.

"Nobody asked you, Jager." You chuckle.

Finally, you manage to return to base, where the rest of your squadmates are waiting for you upon landing.

"Valk!" Lara waves. "You're all right!"

"Yep, still alive." You nod.

"Man, and I thought we were free of you at last." Amy grunts.

"And Amy here was worried absolutely sick!" Lilian ambushes Amy from behind with a motherly headpat. "She wouldn't stop checking in with the tower to see if you were coming back!"

"Awww, how sweet, Amy." You coo.

"Sh-shut up!" Amy's face turns as crimson as your Morgan's right wing.

Placate with offers of nice things. When was the last time we made a beer run? How much beer can you fit in a drop tank?

"Okay, Smokey, I know this looks bad." You say cautiously as your disgruntled mechanic stomps towards you. "But in my defense, I was basically fighting a 3v1."

"Like that ever stopped you before." Smokey retorts.

"Smokey, I promise to make up for this somehow." You say a little pleadingly, mostly because you didn't want him to brain you with that big heavy wrench he was holding.

"Hmmmmmm." Smokey eyes you suspiciously before nodding. "All right. If you can score me and my boys some whiskey, I'll call it even. And not that cheap shit, either. The real stuff! Got it?"

"Got it." You nod, relieved that you managed to escape his wrath, for now.

"Good, now scram. I got a plane to fix." Smokey grumbles as she shuffles past you and to the now shot up Morgan.

You can't shake the feeling that you had just dodged a bullet there.

"So, where are ya going now?" Lara asks.

Do not taunt the guy who knows the arcane secrets of the machine you routinely take to the battlefield.

That leads to mysterious mechanical failures and strange shortages of ammo.

"I was going to go check on Milly. See if she's awake now." You say. "You wanna come along?"

"Sorry, I gotta pass." Lara shakes her head. "Wolf said he wanted to talk to me about something. Can't imagine what, though."

"I wonder." You play along.

"Well, anyways, I'll catch ya later!" Lara pats you on the shoulder before walking off. "Say hi to Milly for me!"

"I will." You nod.

"Oho, it looks like Wolf is finally making his move." Lilian smiles. You swear her eyes dart towards you for a moment, but you're not too sure.

"C'mon, Lilian." Amy grumbles as she rolls up her sleeves. "Better go make sure Wolf doesn't get too 'pushy' with her. You know how dimwitted and gullible Lara can be."

"Of course." Lilian nods. "We'll be seeing you then, Karla."

"Yeah, later." You say before parting ways.

You then head over to the base infirmary, and are quickly directed to the room Milly is being kept in.

"Karla!" Milly says happily, nearly leaping right out of her bed if it weren't for Jager there to hold her down in time. "You're here!"

"Of course. Was there any doubt?" You chuckle as you walk up to your little squire. "How are you doing?"

"A bit under the weather, but the docs say I'm not too bad off. Just gotta a bit and a good night's rest and I'll be ready to go by tomorrow!" Milly says happily. "I heard you went through some serious shit to help me out. And uh... thanks."

"Don't worry about it." You assure her. "I'm sure you'd do the same for me."

"I wish." Milly shakes her head. "I couldn't even handle ONE OB ace, much less THREE."

"Well, you're still young and dumb, so there's room to improve." You joke.

"Ha ha." Milly rolls her eyes.

"And what brings you here, Jager?" You ask.

"Just trying to debrief Milly." Jager shrugs. "I want to see if she remembered anything of note. It might give us a clue as to where their headquarters is."

"And like I said before. I have no idea. I was blindfolded the entire time." Milly grumbles. "What I do know is that the place was underground. The hallways were tight and I could feel the rock all around."

"Which leads me to believe that OB have converted a Vault into their base." Jager notes. "But that's honestly just a guess. They were pretty careful when they were handling Milly."

"I'm sorry I couldn't be more of a help." Milly frowns.

"Don't worry. We'll find those bastards eventually." Jager assures her.

"Ugh, now I just gotta figure out how to hell to get back home." Milly groans. "I can't just hop a taxi back to Belka."

Now that you think about it. You were seriously overdue for some leave time. Maybe you could cash some of it in...

>Don't worry, I can help you out there, Milly.

"Hey, Jager." You call out.

"Yes?" Jager's head perks up at his name being called. "You need something?"

"Well, I was actually wondering if you were free this weekend." You say a bit sheepishly. "I mean, I understand if you're busy-"

"I am." Jager nods."You need someone to help you escort Milly home?"

"Uh, yeah, that's it..." You laugh nervously. You didn't have the nerve to correct him, at least not in front of Milly.

Milly meanwhile shoots you a quick disgruntled look. It appeared she figured out what was going on.

"All right then. I'll pass it by Samantha. I don't see any reason why she'd refuse. Your squadron is overdue for leave time, anyways." Jager nods. "I'll see you later."

Both you and Milly wait until Jager is gone before speaking.

"Soooooo...." Milly grins. "You two gonna fuck?"

"Language, Milly." You grunt, smacking her on the back of head. You get the feeling it was goign to be a long ride back to Belka.

>"I wish." Milly shakes her head. "I couldn't even handle ONE OB ace, much less THREE."

Hey, which Ace was it that shot Milly down then? Lancer? Babylon? Tombstone? Probably not the latter as I think he waited till now to make his re-appearance, so it's gotta be one of those.

Unless, well, OB has more aces which is quite possible of course. We've only personally dealt with 3 recurring aces after all.
