Quest Start

The first song ends and the queue of girls intent on singing along with their favorite tracks crowd around the console to select their songs. Keiko scored a miraculous 100% on the Karaoke machine, her smile beams as she slides the mic back into the holder.

Of course in her opening christening of this secret magical girl hideout and Karaoke Lounge for its proper purpose, she was the spotlight. Not only singing the song perfectly, but doing the dance the original idol had done during the music video to a professional decree. Actually you take back the thought about her being the spotlight, as is her power Keiko Sugimoto had shone as the sun.

“That song is dedicated to the woman of the hour,” she exclaims while pointing over to the couch where your older sister had been enjoying the show, “Usa Chiba, though I haven’t known you very long I will never forget the debt I owe your whole family. I wish you a safe trip to and a speedy recovery in your own timeline!”

Okay, so your older sister is actually an alternate possibility of who you could have been who came back in time long before you were born. Your life and family are complicated.

Every girl in this room is a Sailor Guardian, save for yourself. You turned away from that path due to great trauma a few years ago.

You are Mikage Chiba, second year highschool student fifteen years old, and you used to be the third woman to carry the mantle of Sailor Moon. Your mother was first, your elder sister was second, and you are followed by your younger sister.
>>
>>42478310

Now you secretly support your younger sister and her new court of young Magical Girls in ongoing contests with an enemy tied to the origins of your family and your powers from a time before recorded history. To this end you use a few guises and double identities, most of which you were already using for other personal reasons.

Your family and life, to reiterate, are complicated.

Recent events have destabilized your older sister’s ability to persist in this timeline, and so she’s been recovering until she is strong enough to return to her point of origin in a now alternate future. While you blame yourself for this, you’ve taken the advice of some of the other girls here with whom you are friends and are trying to enjoy the party.

In fact you’ve just been talking to one of the group of Sailor Guardians you know least well. PallaPalla is one of the Asteroid Sailor Guardians, Sailor Pallas, and she serves among the protectorate court of your elder sister. Technically she should have been in your guardian court, but Usa was here, active, and closer in age to these girls at the time. More than that, you didn’t know that they were supposed to be your guardian court.

Turns out that they did, the whole time. And while you shut them and your big sister out for years when you found out that she was an alternate possible version of yourself, and that you were having her dreams which were private meetings between herself and the extra dimensional anchored supernatural entity who lived in the collective dreams of humanity known as Helios, they have been cognizant of trying to make your future a happier one than your sister had known.
>>
>>42478363

To that end, you had just learned from PallaPalla had intended to build you a city comparable to the Crystal Tokyo from which Usa hails in the alternate 30th Century. Though the light blue haired girl carries herself in an assuredly ditzy and overly cutesy fashion, it turns out she possesses multiple bachelor's degrees and a masters in Civil Engineering.

Though once Keiko’s announcement was done, she broke away from you while crying out in the third person that she would like to sing too.

Most of the girls are crowding around the Karaoke Control console, which looks to also double as a tactical magic powered super computer. All of this is located beneath your local video arcade and sweets cafe, the details of that matter elude you but you’d rather not pry at this point and just accept it as reality. Well, with almost everyone crowding around for their chance to sing, you could go chat with Usa before her send of or try to muscle your way into singing something yourself.

Well, since you’ve started the effort of getting to know the women who serve as your big sister’s guardian court, you might as well keep up the flow while they’re all here together. Walking over to the opposite corner of the room from where your big sister is watching the unfolding antics of the others, you find the serious looking girl with deep red hair done up in a towering high ponytail before it falls back around in a long and tight braid. If memory serves, she is VesVes; Sailor Vesta.

Her eyes are held firmly on the stage, a brash annoyance radiates off of her.

While you know Palla-san was focused in magic and wisdom, Ves-san is focused upon the hearth and home. Admittedly you’ve never seen her conduct herself or carry herself in any kind of domestic way, you know she is personally a big fan of animals and has powers tied to metal and flame.

~Excuse me,~ you offer to get her attention.

She doesn’t even look at you to respond as her arms unfold and find their place on her hips. Her initial tone in regard to you is annoyed, though you figure why rather quickly and see its shift.

“Listen ChibiUsa, I already told you I’m not gonna-” she turns to face you, and does an embarrassed double take at noticing your elder sister is still on the other side of the room, “-sing. Sorry, Mini, thought you were her,”

Well, she’s at least embarrassed about her mistake.

Ignoring her misidentification of yourself, and her usage of part of your big sister’s nickname for you, you focus on why you came over here. To talk to her.

However, your attentions on catching up with the girl fall short to other curiosities, particularly spurred by her lonesome stance over here and her apparent assertion to your sister that she wouldn’t be singing.

~So,~ you begin with a sigh before letting a particularly scrutinizing expression play across your features as you lean into the older woman, ~just why are you over here being a party martyr, that’s my job thank you very much,~

“Urk,” she chokes in shock from your casual and seemingly invasive, though her actions prompting the inquiry were anything but private, line of questioning, “J-just what business of it is yours if I want to sit on the sidelines?”

Her counter question to your own is punctuated by her leaning in towards you. You remembered she had a tendency toward harshness, but to be confrontational in response to you? Internally you laugh, because that’s just fine.

~Because recently others aren’t letting me get away with it and I wanted to know what made you so special!~ you grouse at her and cross your arms, standing your ground.

“Oh yeah?” she leans in tighter to which your respond until you are in a war of balance and force forehead to forehead, “Well why do you WANT to be the only ‘party martyr’? How about that!?”
>>
>>42481269

Her question strikes back to your earlier mindset when the party was first starting. Guilt echoes in your heart but you crush it down. Your voice softens and you drop your arms. A sad smile plays across your face.

~Same reason as you, right?~ you explain and steal a glance over to your sister who is no longer alone on the couch, ~because I’ll miss her and a happy goodbye party just seems awkward,~

Somehow you missed someone else arriving to the party, Tomoe-Sensei is there with her now.

Ves-san leans back. Her eyes scan you appraising you as she uncrosses her arms and smooths out her red sweater dress. There is a smug and knowing smile on her face, though her posture relents to you passively admitting defeat.

“You’re alright, kid,” she concedes and nods, “And yeah, I am going to miss your big sister,”

>Want someone to mope with? Someone to unload onto?
>Well, she wouldn’t want either of us to be sad, would she?

~Want someone to mope with?~ you ask, ~Maybe someone to unload onto,~

She considers it a moment and then offers you a brash and cocky smile.

“Sure, kid,” then she sighs and huffs a bit, “just give me a second,”

Ves-san meanders over to one of the vanity chairs nearby. Taking a seat, she thinks on it a moment, and huffs.

“I’m upset she’s leaving,” she explains and then gives you a direct look, “and it has nothing to do with being mad at you,”

~Did she tell you to say that?~

“She couldn’t stress enough that you were blaming yourself for this,” she shrugs, “Though this has happened before, not as bad, but it's happened.”

~Really?~

“Yeah, she’s had to go back there not just for official stuff, but to recharge before,” she explains, “I’m just upset that we’re not going to be there for her,”

~Ah, you want to go with her,~ you nod, ~I do too, but there’s too much to do here,~

“Yeah there is, and you’re actually off base,” she explains and takes out a flask, “You old enough to drink, mini?”

Her query prompts you to glance down at your highschool uniform.

Ves-san takes a drag off of the red clad flask. She wipes her lips carelessly and ticks off a few things on her fingers.

“We’ve gone with her before,” she explains, “but it's not that we aren’t available to go with her this time around. Its that we aren’t there on the other side,”

~Really?~ you sit at the next vanity over, ~Your doubles aren’t there?~

“Haven’t been found yet,” she explains, “And we helped them look,”

~I’m a teenager with a disguise pen,~ you roll your eyes and extend your hand.

While it’s true a few of your alter egos drink on occasion, you haven’t made a habit of it. It doesn’t really bother you and you’ve never really had more than enough to get you buzzed. To your response, Ves-san shrugs and passes you the flask to take a drag on as well.

Its strong, though there is a distinct bitter fruit flavor.

~Melon shochu?~ you pass the flask back to her and run your tongue over your lips.

“I distill it outside of the city,” she explains with a hint of pride while you steer things back toward the lack of presence of her and her sisters in the future.

~That’s bad, right,~ you say with a worried edge, ~That another you isn’t there?~

“Probably,” she sighs, “According to compared records, events actually started to diverge around the time of your parents wedding. In your sister’s home timeline we apparently didn’t show up again around then,”

~Again, that’s right you guys were with the Dead Moon Circus,~

She groans.

“It's too complicated and weird,” she shrugs, “We tried helping them backtrack to where else we had thought about going after we split off from them but every time it was a dead end,”

She looks down, saddened.

“Something must have happened during the freeze,” she curses, “Something fucked up. Your dad, future dad, even has the Golden Crystal but says it came to his hand in a dream without Helios coming along with it,”

~That doesn’t sound good at all,~ you admit.

“Well, yeah, it doesn’t,” she grunts, “but we’ve had years to cope with it...I’m just pissed Usa has to go back with just Diana, that’s it,”

You nod solemnly and pat her on the shoulder.
>>
>>42486976

~Well, if she’s gone long I was planning to visit her there,~ you say trying to lift her spirits as she takes another drag on her flask of spirits, ~Once all this is taken care of maybe we can go visit her together,~

“Sounds like a plan,” she smiles broadly as she lowers her flask, “Though I am not enjoying fighting idiots with psychic powers,”

Deciding you’ve had enough of shop talk, you and Ves-san move on to stories of your big sister’s social life that you were not privy to when you were ignoring her as hard as you could as a child. Passing the flask back and forth, you find int Ves-san a kindred spirit.

She is as headstrong and devil may care as you used to be, and soon the two of you are laughing like old friends. More than that, her Shochu is delicious. While your first sip certainly had a bite to it, there was undeniably smoothness and pleasantness to it as the conversation went on.

Things turn from stories only minutes removed from your childhood to what she got up to in life. Apparently she and the rest of the Asteroid Senshi had a lingering slowed aging effect after their hostile departure from the Dead Moon Circus many many years prior. So slow in fact that after they got bored of wandering the world for a few years, they came home to Japan and got in trouble with a truancy officer.

Mostly bereft of magical energy, save for Palla-san, they were unable to weasel their way out of those circumstances and also got caught up in social services because they lacked legal guardians or identification. Apparently the blue girl refused to use her powers to intervene because she thought going to school seemed like fun. For their trouble they got placed in middle school and wound up in your sister’s class.

“It was chaos,” Ves-san complains while you alternate between laughter and tears into her shoulder.

Sure the summary sounds simple, but Ves-san tells it much better and for some reasons that you couldn’t recall later it was both the funniest and saddest thing you’d ever heard.

It should be worth mentioning that your focus on this conversation had been gradually deteriorating with each couple of passes of the flask of Melon flavored Shochu. The clear spirit was just so good, it made you feel warm and just want to curl into a comfy ball and giggle and sulk and giggle and sulk and giggle.
>>
>>42489566

Eventually, you get some kind of story out of Ves-san about how she wound up getting into distilling and writing for a home decor magazine and website. You barely remember any of it by the time she’s done, but she eventually starts bragging about things getting serious with a nice country guy who she buys barley and sweet potatoes from directly for her Shochu. All the songs blur by in the background as the two of your talk.

“You two seem to be getting along,” a familiar voice says from behind you.

~Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-saaaaan,~ you cheer, more smiles than you should normally be capable of mustering, as you wobbily rise up and go to hug your sister.

Well, more like you fall into her and rest your head on her shoulder while your arms fail to coordinate their way around her together.

“Mikage-chan?” she pulls you up and looks you in the eye in concern.

“AH! VesVes is that your Shochu!?” Diana squeals from beside your sister and darts forward, a blur to your unfocused vision.

“Sorry kitten,” the red headed girl apologizes with a blushing laugh, “We drank it all,”

“We?” your older sister questions, slipping into the edge of her princess voice.

~Shhhhh,~ you shush at your sister palming at her face, well, trying to grab at one of her two overlapping faces that you both manage to miss but still hit something in the center, “Ves-chan is great, how come. How come I never talked to her before? No, Usa. Usa-nee, you’re great,”

She peels your hand off of her face and sighs while patting you on the head.

“VesVes, she’s still in highschool,” your sister quietly bites at her friend.

“Aw come on,” she replies flippantly and defensively, “She’s good for it, and recognized what it was. And besides, like you never used the disguise pen to indulge. And its not like I dumped it into the punch!”
>>
>>42489603

“I never got this bad,” she points at you as you look between the two of them while not really being able to follow what’s being said, “Mikage I’m disappointed in you-”

Your reaction is instantaneous. Eyes widening and hands balling and coming up to your mouth.

~Nee-san?~ you say worriedly and sniffle, ~No, please don’t be disappointed. Don’t be, we’re, don’t,~

You fling yourself at your big sister in tears. This is the last time you’ll see her for a while, she can’t be disappointed in you now of all times! Squeezing her tight and burying your face into her chest, you cry out her name into a muffling presence of her shirt as you pull her down so that you are both to your knees. At some point during this bawling, another hugger joins the fray. Looking up you find a teary eyed Koyomi, your baby sister, looking at you through teary eyes.

“Mikage-nee,” she pleads at you and then turns to your shared older sister, “Don’t cry! We’ll both miss Usa-nee, but it’ll be okay. I’LL MISS YOU TOO USA-NEE!”

The littlest bunny bawls and one of your arms loosens from your big sister and pulls your younger sister into the hug in full. Both of you are crying broadly, and it appears your younger sister hasn’t realized your impeded state. In all of this, your elder sister seems at first annoyed, but two smaller bunnies weighing her down and crying takes its toll on her and she too cries out and squeezes both of you back as her own waterworks flow.

“I don’t want to leave you two either!” she exclaims and cries.

By the time you disengage, you’ve built up quite the audience. Ves-san looks suitably chastised and Tomoe-sensei is standing behind her looking mildly annoyed at her. Everyone else is watching the three of you curiously, and Usa pats the two of you on the back.

“It's time,” Usa says sadly and quietly as she rises.

You dumbly clutch at Koyomi as Usa-neechan rises up and walks toward the now empty stage, the rest of the group parting for her to pass. The younger Senshi watching her walk with a sad Awe as the pink and white gown materializes on her form. The Asteroid Senshi watching with various phases of expected regret. The newly activated Sol watching with a certain sense of wonder. Tomoe-sensei steps up to her, briefly grips her hand as your big sister nods, releases, and steps back.

Hey, non-random question, does the Per Day on Divine Source reset at midnight, morning, or other?

In any event, dropping a heal nuke that blasts status effects on yourself is bound to seem like a solid idea when not thinking straight.

Unless Restoration is the right choice for that.

Is boozed up a status effect or temporary ability damage?

Oh no, a Tsukino girl being mildly hypocritical?

If Usa had to rebut in defense of her actions as a scared child:

"But, lives were at stake! It wasn't a real gun! And...and...."

"And I was very disappointed in her when I was told the truth," says a woman with long blue hair looming behind her.

"Ah, Grandma are you still mad about that," the pink haired time traveler says sheepishly.

You lean into your younger sister for comfort as the tears continue to flow, and she does the same while her own sadness takes liquid form. A few paces later, your older sister comes to a stop and draws a familiar key from her necklace.

She holds it aloft, and says something that you can’t make out of the distance and sudden warping of space. You remember the time you used your key, beseeching the God of Time for passage. Above the stage a swirling mass of red and pink opens up, the familiar vortex into the Cherry Road.

“Everyone,” your older sister says solemnly as the wind from the vortices whips her pigtails to and fro, “I’ll miss you all, until we meet again,”

As she turns toward the portal, you realize something. Ever since you allowed one of your fragments to return, you had accepted that you were deserving of the love of others. The love of your family, and the love anyone was willing to give you, and the love of yourself. Through the slowly to sober haze of an excess of hard spirits, you realize that your big sister is…

~Usa-nee!~ you cry out with all of your heart while drying your tears on your sleeve, ~I LOVE YOU USA-NEECHAN! BE SAFE!~

“WE’LL ALL MISS YOU! AND WE’LL TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER!” your sister croaks out beside you.

~WHEN YOU COME BACK, WE’LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE GONE!~

“AND WE’LL ALL GO OUT FOR ICE CREAM TOGETHER!” your little sister adds and then to your surprise, “YOU CAN HAVE THE CHERRY FROM MY SUNDAE!”

~AND IF YOU DON’T COME BACK WE’LL COME GET YOU!” both you and your little sister cry out as one.

You don’t think of it now, but later it will be a point of amusement to you that inebriation puts you on the same mental level as your little sister.

Usa turns to look at the two of you, at everyone gathered and watching. A soft smile trails across her lips as she wipes an errant tear from the corner of her eye.

“Do your best,” she says with certain finality, “I’ll hold you too each promise you’ve made here. I love you. I love all of you!,”

With that, she hikes up the front of her gown and bolts into a run toward the vortex. With a graceful leap she sails into the portal. As she falls through it to a far greater distance than the length of the room, the portal twists closed, leaving a gravity defying trail of teardrops suspended in air by the temporal rift’s gravitational anomalies to fall to the floor.

“Usa-nee,” Koyomi whines one last time as you hug her close and pat the small of her back while sniffling and moaning yourself.

~It’ll be okay,~ you offer a softly slurred promise your little sister through your own rosey cheek and tear reddened eyes, ~Everything will be okay, Koyomi. I promise,~

Not that she’s seemed to notice.

“Mikage-nee,” she sniffles and looks up at you with big eyes, “You promise?”

Your mind falls back to the promise you made yourself. The declaration that you’d protect your sister, protect her friends, and protect whoever you had to. Even in your slightly impeded state that shines through along with your determination.

~I promise,~ and you’ll do anything to keep it.

Thanks everyone, I had fun running today.

So let's have a great year ahead.

I'll probably say that again in a few months during the secular calendar new year.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for all the fun!
And be careful around tattered edges of realities.

I only really worry about the shattering of one world right now, but I thank you for the warning.
>>
At some point tomorrow I'm going to try for more of my anonkun quest.

As always, follow my twitter in the OP for quest updates and thread warnings.

Catch everyone later. If you are so inclined to ask questions and continue discussion of things here then please do so.

I'll try to answer questions when again conscious.

I really need to start watching some Crystal.

Was rewatching subs of the first animated series, but got interrupted and distracted. I was somewhere in R about the time the new dub and Crystal came around.

I need to finish catching up on the rerelease of the sub on Hulu. I'm particularly excited to have a straight shot at Stars again.
>>
>>42496915
Yeah. That. I'll get back to you on that.

Is she back again? Whose threads? If we speak in spoiler text maybe she won't notice.

I'm hoping we are safer here, since is forward in time, but with Events like these it is hard to be certain. Time is fluid, what could be weeks of frozen time to one world and months of adventure to other could be a dozen years in some places. Who knows whether things like that may yet strike from the could have been at the may yet be.

What if we witness some of these events out of order? Why was Peter Parker on the list? What was the point of a Young Justice Quest ceasing to exist when it with such an advanced numbered thread but no threads before it? Was GS's Lumi the next target GL since the one there supposedly wasn't compatible? Is he going to start the next bit of Magical Green Lantern with that after he finishes his Liberty revival? When will someone in Witch's Magical Fetish point out that they're giant chickens and leave the rest of the chat confused because they don't know about Henrietta's character origins?

Reminds me of my musing on seeing her appear there:
"Well, that explains us being found in the henhouse.."
