You're a pale angel with black wings, who has crash-landed into the mysterious "Plane of Discourse", an arrangement of floating islands populated by odd beasts and red vegetation. While you initially find yourself at a loss, you meet another angel, Titori, the One who Cares for Beasts, who tells you about the three Planes, as well as the fact that your true name is somehow hidden to the both of you. For the time being, you call yourself Nox.

"Other than culling beasts, what is it that you do, Titori?"
"Well, as my name suggests, I do whatever it is that is needed to ensure all of the Creator's beasts are cared for. I ensure they have stable sources of food, I prevent overhunting and overgrazing, I fly animals to different islands if it will balance populations- I even purge entire species if the Creator wills it. All to maintain order in this Plane."
"I assume you can't just fly the mulltumps back to their land because they wouldn't be able to support all the extra population, correct?"
"That's part of the reason, and the biggest one."
"Have you tried domesticating them? Could you possibly train them to be less of a problem?"
Titori sneers. "Hahahaha! A mulltump? Tamed? That's hilarious. They do what they want, whenever they want. They'll bite your hand off when you try to hand them food if they perceive it as a slight. And they take offense very easily. Some of the most prideful beasts in the Plane."

"That's a shame." "Honestly, I wish they didn't even exist. They make my job so much harder. Once, two got away and I had to spend a few years tracking them and their children down all by myself, it was awful." Titori sighs. "It's fine, though. Say, let's go to my home for now, Nox! We can talk more there, and maybe even see about helping you remember everything."

>"Okay."
>"I dunno."

"Okay."
Titori stands up, bow in hand, and goes over to the mulltump, plucking the arrow out of it. "Pretty clean shot." After looking it over, the hunter reaches behind es back, and mysteriously, the arrow fades from view.

"What was that?"
"It's one of my many talents. I can pull tools for hunting out by reaching behind my back."
"Do all angels have talents like this?"
"Yes. You probably do too. I think if we find out what they are, you'll come closer to discovering your true name."
The idea sounds promising.
"Now, Nox, take a look at this."
Titori presses es palms together and starts humming in a low tone. As e hums, the mulltump's corpse begins to glow faintly, and quickly begins to break down into a strange dust. It's carried up into the air, and scatters throughout the surrounding area. After a few moments, Titori stops humming.

"Now, watch this."
It takes a few moments, but all of a sudden, the grass turns a brighter shade of red several yards all around where the mulltump once was, and a few orange flowers start to sprout, jutting out through the soil.
"This is one of the biggest reasons I can continue to slaughter these things. Their deaths are never truly a waste."

>"That's beautiful."
>"That's disgusting."

((I want to show that the angels have no gender in this setting but using they/their/them all the time is so fucking clunky, and only using names would look stupid as hell. I think I'll just use Spivak pronouns from here on out.))

"That's beautiful."
"I like to think so."
Titori points north, after a brief pause. "I live there, over in the hills. A few other angels come here as well. They're probably away right now, though. A few days ago they said they were going to make an extended trip back to the Plane of Judgement."

"Why's that?"
"They didn't say. They'll be back in a few days, though, so it can't be too serious."
"Exactly how many live here?"
"Less than you can count on two hands. They comes and go, too. I'm the only permanent resident, as far as I know. But enough chatter. Go on and stretch so we can fly to my house."

You both begin to stretch your back and wing muscles, and after you're sure you won't have a repeat of last time, you take off, flying through the sky at low altitude, just over the sparsely placed trees in the sea of grass. "It's lovely up here. That's another thing that keeps me here. In all the Planes, there's nothing like this."

You eventually touch down near a small house carved into the side of a hill. A plethora of beautiful flowers of all colors sits all around, almost inviting you to approach. A rounded green glass window and a wooden door carrying the reddish tint of the land's vegetation separates you from the interior.

"This is my home. We can't go in just yet, though. I have a few questions for you. First off, do you remember anything at all? What's the last thing you remember?"

>"...Falling."
>"I saw something in the distance right before I started falling."

"...Falling."
"Nothing else?"
"Not really."
You aren't sure why, but you don't feel like sharing that bit about what you saw. Or at least, what you think you saw.

"Very well. Come inside." Folding es wings in, Titori pushes the door open, revealing a plain, candlelit home with polished wooden flooring and fur rugs. The walls are carved smooth, and wooden furniture sits around, undisturbed.

Titori gestures to a rather ornate table, and you both down in bright red chairs.
"So, you don't have any memory of how you got here, from before you got here, or what you're name's hidden. You haven't yet discovered your power, and you don't have any idea what your purpose is. If we could get an idea of what your power and purpose are, we might be able to trigger a memory and get your name."

That's a solid idea. "Alright, how do we do that?"

"I dunno. We could always explore the islands until we encounter something. Or maybe you could take a trip to the Plane of Judgement? You likely wouldn't get an audience with the Creator, but I'm certain the rest of the angels could help you."

>"What's below the flying islands?"
>"What exactly is a Plane?"

"Yeah, what's below the flying islands?"
Titori's face falls. "Why do you ask?"
"I'm just curious."
"Below the Plane of Discourse sits the Silence. It's nothing to concern yourself with."
"What's th-"
Titori interjects with a slightly raised voice. "That is all I have to say on this topic. You will have to ask another question."
An incredibly loud silence fills the room. You decide to break it with another question.

"What exactly is a Plane?"
"A third of Creation. Judgement, Discourse, and Substance are all three core parts of our world. On their own, they are spaces containing different pieces of one whole- different aspects that the Creator deemed important enough to isolate and exemplify. Without any one, it is likely Creation would fall out of balance and be consumed by That Which Exists Beyond Creation."

"What is Beyond Creation?"
"Something we don't worry ourselves with. Please stop asking questions that I am not here to answer."
You raise an eyebrow, but realize it's best not to press Titori about it.

"Who is the Creator?"
"The one who created the Planes, the one who assigns us name and purpose, the one who loves all things and hates evil, the one who all angels praise. Without him, we would all be forced to exist Beyond Creation."

>"Are there any Angels in the Plane of Substance?"
>"Aside from Creation and Beyond Creation, is there anything else?"

"Aside from Creation and Beyond Creation, is there anything else?"
"Only Truth."
"Truth?"
"Supposedly it is in a space beyond all else. Only the Creator knows its true nature. It is likely that nobody but him will ever see it."
"Does anyone have an idea of where it might be?"
"Not really. We can only guess. It is said to exist in the center of Creation and Beyond Creation, but the concept of a 'center' doesn't exactly apply to the Planes when perceiving them as a whole. It would take a long time to explain how it works. I'm pretty sure I'd explain it incorrectly even if I did take the time to break it down."

"Alright."
"Anything else?"
There IS one thing that's bugging you...
"If the Creator loves all things and hates evil, why is the Plane of Substance the way it is?"
Titori shrugs. "It is what it is."
"Don't you ever wonder?"
"About what?"
"If the Creator can do all of this, why not create it in a way to where people don't have to suffer? What's the value of a world where people suffer and die because of each others' cruelty? What's the value of the job you do, where you kill creatures he made to flee in a way that only he could predict? It doesn't ma-"
Titori frowns, and interjects once again, shouting this time. "I-I don't like the way you speak about the Creator! It's not your place to judge what he does!"
"I don't see a purpose to any of what you explained!"
"The purpose of all he does is ineffable. That should be enough for you. It... It's enough for me."
Titori is clearly upset by all of this. Maybe you should just let it be.

>"I'm sorry about that."
>"In any case, I want to know how to reach one of the other Planes."

"It's fine. ...Just please, don't do that sort of thing. I have my purpose and I fulfill it well and I keep to myself and everything's okay. It's honestly very stressful when things go beyond that."
You can understand that, you suppose.

Titori pushes back in the chair and stands up. "Anyhow, I don't think this conversation's going to do much to trigger any flashbacks. Is there anything else you want to ask or can we get moving?"

>Write in a question.

Is there anything we should really watch out for while one one of the planes?
>>
((Non-controversial questions will be asked straight away, everything else will wait for votes.))

>>42488459
"Is there anything we should really watch out for while one one of the planes?"
"There are all manner of beasts here. Mulltumps are prideful and nasty but they're not very strong compared to some of the beasts that live here. You should be fine as long as you're with me, though."
"What kinds?"
"Some have wings, some don't, some are bigger than the trees, some are as small as stones, some exist all over the islands, and some stay together on one island. A few breathe blue flames, some dive through the endless rivers that drain into the Silence, some can talk, and actually hold a decent conversation! As for the other planes, the most dangerous things would be the warlike humans in the Plane of Substance. In the Plane of Judgement, there's nothing to fear. Sometimes humans are brought there to commune with angels, but it's extremely rare."

((Alright, that's all for now. It's late, I'm tired, see you next time, follow my update Twitter. Next thread will have the two travel the Plane of Discourse together.

See you in Discarded Angel Quest #3!))
