Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you savored the sweet taste of bull penis and got attacked by a dragon.

It is currently the 17th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

Someone upstairs is shouting about their attempts to sleep, but in the common room it's quiet as the grave. Nobody dares say a word as the dragon stomps across the roof, its heavy footfalls sending dust spilling from the ceiling and rattling the manifold bottles of liquor and wine which line the inn's far wall.

Some of your fellow inn patrons have drawn daggers and swords, as if they intend to hack the beast to death. One man seems to have thrown himself wholeheartedly into meditation, Metal magic pouring off of him in waves. Yet others are devoting their final moments to prayer, fervently beseeching Surya to spare their wretched lives, or begging Pani to welcome them with open arms.

Darzi leans across your table, speaking in hushed tones. “You still have the Elaudian armor we recovered from that bandit's vault?”

You nod, carefully removing your cloak and laying it flat on the ground. When you rip the garment away a suit of impossibly heavy armor lays on the floor where once there had been only stone tile. It's split open diagonally across the chest, the metal melting away under its own power to reveal a silk-coated interior. Darzi is quick to slide into the suit, which fits her as if it were specifically made for her. As soon as she slides her arms into their respective holes the armor begins to seal itself off, a helmet with three diagonal eye holes forming itself from a bulge of metal around the neck.

Darzi rises from the floor with surprising grace for one in armor that heavy. Her thoughts brush against yours as she starts towards the stairwell, her message carried telepathically through the pathway afforded to you by the brooches. {I'm going to wake Profectus and Mortia, and get Chryssa's armor from our room.}

You're left sitting at the table with Fulvia, wearing little else besides the thin silk garments you wear beneath your robes and the cloak you received so long ago as a gift from three skeletal spectators. You're not sure why the dragon hasn't already attacked, it's had plenty of opportunity and the Gods know it could tear the lot of you apart. Perhaps it's not here to raze the inn, as you'd first thought?

>Relying on the kindness of dragons seems unwise. Pull on your warlock armor while you still have the chance.
>You're feeling pretty fantastic, likely due to the effects of that potion Mortia gave you. Perhaps it's time to try on your Heavy Warlock Armor?
>Reach out to the dragon telepathically and see if you can't communicate with it. Perhaps it's merely here for a drink?

No heavy armor. If we use it we will have a massive vys clot.

Fuck yes

>>42518867
Put on armor, try to communicate
>>
>>42518950
We'll be fine if we use the Vys ring to drain our overcharged Vys, and we have rather large vys reserves. It takes a full hour for the armor to charge 10 vys. The spirit ivory ring can siphon off the overcharge, and the only time we ever contracted Vys overflow had us using the poultice and falling asleep in our armor. We are neither going to sleep in this suit or use a poultice.
>>
>>42519004
We may fall unconscious as a result of this fight, though, since we'll be going all out against a dragon.

>>
>>42519068
We are going all out though, since it is a dragon. We'll also have the ring to siphon excess vys in that case, and the fact that we're not high on any poultice. On one hand, we have possible vys oversaturation. On the other hand, we have possible death. I know which one is less preferable.

You start pulling out pieces of armor, strapping them to yourself haphazardly. It's while you're struggling to secure your cuirass that Darzi returns with Mortia, Chryssa, and Profectus in tow. She's wielding a short spear with an implausibly long tip, the body of the spear made of a strange crystaline material. Runes warped and distorted by time glow along the surface of the blade, utterly illegible unfortunately.

Mortia is wearing the strange green glass armor you bought for her, as well as a long bronze sword with a stone hilt carved to resemble a human skull with the blade emerging from its mouth. Disembodied heads seem to hover around her own, flickering into and out of existence. Each one is subtly different than any of the others, though they all share red skin and strange symbols carved into their foreheads. Mortia herself has forgone her armor's helmet in favor of a bright red mask with long horns extending above it, reminiscent of the ears of a rabbit. You really do wonder just what it is all of Mortia's various artifacts do, and if they're at all useful. Where does she even keep them all?

Chryssa is similarly an odd sight, though still not quite as strange as Mortia. She wears a metal cuirass draped with white silk over reinforced leather armor, which itself conceals a suit of Rhynian Technician's armor. An elaborate metal mask resembling a silver skull covers her face, and a hood conceals the rest of her head. Only her horns peek out above the cloth through holes cut in the fabric. She wields her bow for now, an arrow already notched, but a heavy bronze mace rest against her hip.

Finally there's Profectus. Compared to your other companions he appears downright mundane. He wears a suit of Centurion's armor, the helmet raised to obscure his face almost entirely. In one hand he carries a massive shield and in the other a long sword with a heavy, curved blade. You wonder if he'll actually be any good in a fight, now that he's properly equipped?

Fulvia steps around the table to help you finish pulling on your armor, apparently tired of waiting. After finally you're fully equipped you slide your helmet over your head and secure it with a soft click. Not a moment later pain sears through the back of your neck, the muscles in your neck spasming briefly before the constant flow of vys soothes your frayed nerves. You drape your cloak over your shoulders and pull forth your Scorpion Shield and Fiendish Trident, equipped for war.

Understandably, you've drawn quite a lot of attention. The fishermen sitting a few tables over seem almost more scared of you than the dragon lying in wait on the building's roof. However, the inn keeper's wife seems made of sterner stuff, calling out to you from her position seated next to the hearth. “If you're going to fight that dragon try to lure it away from our inn first. I'm already going to have to pay to have the roof repaired, last thing I want is a wall collapsing.”

>Good idea, actually. Send Darzi out to bait the dragon since she's wearing the heaviest armor.
>Collapse the roof underneath the dragon's feat to catch it by surprise, collateral damage isn't really your concern. (3 vys).
>Now that you're heavily armed and armored, try communicating. Even though you don't speak draconic. (2 vys).
>Reach out to Zahak and try to get an idea of whether or not he can help in any way. (1 vys).
>Charge out the door to face this overgrown lizard.

can we mentally reinforce our mind with metal, and use nature to help talk first?
>>

Second this. I dunno about metal but spending nature should help with getting out point across, if not our exact words.
>>
>>42520023
I'll support this. emotions and intents seem to carry over a telepathic link, so that might help us infer the intent of the dragon or at the very least help us approximate the meanings of a word or a phrase. provided we blow a lot of vys into our thinky bits.
>>
by the way, Soma, can we try to use the staff es well to reinforce our nature skills? I feel like results are more important than experience points right now.

You reach out to the dragon sitting on the roof, but your attempts to contact him initially fail. Your mind simply slides off of his, like water off of wax. Channeling vys, you focus your will and force your thoughts through the barrier surrounding the dragon's own mind. Before you can pose your question the dragon's own voice thunders through your skull. {Nor zara zu? Zer nahi duzu? I zen ustezko bakarrik izango da.}

You caught not a word of that. The language is hissing, nasal, and warbling. Not exactly what you'd term pleasant. {You wouldn't happen to understand Samjan, would you?} You switch to Rhynian, though it's more difficult to think in the language than simply speak it. {Or what about Rhynian?}

{Madarikatuak esklaboak.} Comes the immediate reply. It's uttered with such vehemence you're a little offended, though you've no idea what it means. Then much to your surprise the dragon actually says something you can understand. {Slaves attacked me, you give food and gold. Is fair. Come outside. We talk. }

You're not so sure about this. What if it's just luring you into a trap that it's prepared outside? Even if you don't know what it's saying you know that it's not particularly fond of you,

>Okay, fine. You'll go outside. Maybe you can convince this thing to just leave you all alone?
>Nah man, you're not giving this dragon your hard-earned gold. Pull out the Shockwave Sword and give it a swing.

It doesn't really seem like you have any options here, so you turn to your companions. “I managed to speak briefly with the dragon. His Rhynian is spotty at best-”

One of the fisherman sitting at a near-by table interrupts. “Wait a second, Pani's tits man just stop there! Did you say you spoke with the dragon? They can talk?”

You glance over your shoulder, the man withering under your scrutiny. You weren't even really glaring at him, you suppose it's just an effect of the armor. “Yes, I spoke with the dragon. I'm a Vatis.” For emphasis you bridge the gap between his mind and yours, forcing your thoughts into his head. {See? It's really quite simple.}

For some reason your attempts at reassuring the man seem to have failed. If anything, you've only exacerbated the man's panic. He stares at you wide-eyed, his grey skin suddenly turned nearly white. Where has this man been living, under a rock? Everyone knows Nature Vatis can communicate telepathically.

Well, whatever. You turn your attention back to your companions. “As I was saying, I spoke with the dragon and he seems willing to negotiate. He wants food and gold, and he wants us to go outside so we can all 'talk'.”

The inn keeper's wife butts in. “I'm not giving that overgrown lizard a single silver of our money! I'm not the one who proposed we should all gather round and go dragon hunting! You tell him we'll give him all the salted pork and lamb he wants but we've got no gold here.”

Sighing in exasperation you turn to the fat woman. “Yes, I'll tell the giant fire breathing terror of the skies that he can go hang on your behalf.” Raising your voice, you address the entire common room. It's filled out quite a bit since the dragon initially landed on the roof. “Will all of you please just sit down and allow us to handle this? We are well versed in dealing with dragons.”

You're greeted by silence, many of the commoners who fill the room moving to take a seat. Most of them are just local fishermen, though you spot a trader in rich clothes nervously working his fingers along the hem of his robes. His hired on muscle, a burly human with a sabre on his hip and a padded aketon stretching nearly to his ankle, isn't doing much better judging by the white knuckle grip he has on his sword's hilt.

Satisfied that you've cowed your audience you're about to turn back to your companions, but Darzi claps you affectionately on the shoulder before you do so. “I'll go out first.” She states matter-of-factly. “In this armor, I'm pretty sure the dragon could breathe all the fire it wants without so much as leaving a scorch mark.”

With that, she marches towards the door and you follow behind. Profectus and Mortia follow you, with Chryssa taking up the rear. The five of you hesitate at the door, but after taking a shaky breath Darzi grips the rusted iron handle and jerks the door open forcefully.

You half expect to be greeted by a gout of flame, but there's nothing. Just an endless expanse of desert. Darzi takes a few hesitant steps outside, turning to face the inn and peering up, towards the roof. After a few seconds she motions for the rest of you to follow, and you do so. Stepping outside you almost immediately see a massive tail draped across the side of the inn, its scales a curious copper color with green creeping in along the edges.

Following the tail up to the main body of the beast you find that this dragon seems to have much finer scales than the black dragon you encountered in Anthus. It's heaviest scales cover its stomach, likely protecting most of its vital organs. What really draws your attention are its eyes. It has four, tiny little eyes situated on the sides of its head, and a massive fin protruding from the top of its snout. You're not quite sure what to make of it.

Only once all five of you are outside does the dragon show any sign of life. It lifts its head, craning its long neck over the edge of the roof to get a better look at you. {You are rich slaves.} It's not really a question, just a statement. {Other slaves attacked while I sleep. You give me food and gold. All of it. I leave. Else, I kill. You choose.}

A distant voice, stripped of all inflection or emotion, drifts through your thoughts. {I can see you. Look up, and to your right.}

Following the directions of the disembodied voice in your head, you look up and to the right. There you see a collection of rocks gathered on top of a distant plateau. Zahak's head pops up from behind the rocks for only a second before ducking back down. Good to know he's alright, and ready to help you should you need it.

You clear your throat, drawing yourself up to your full height. You're still rather minuscule in comparison to this massive creature. {We have no conflict with you, Dragon-}

You're interrupted by the creature's thundering voice. {I am Mushushu. You will call me such. Do not forget it, slave.}

Profectus fails to choke back a laugh, though he quickly regains his composure. You have to admit, his name does sound rather silly. {Right. Mushushu. As you wish then. We're not at all interested in fighting you. We're not related to the people who attacked you in any way. We're merely travelers passing through the area who happened to stop here for the night. The owner of this inn has agreed to let you take what you like from the store room, but they have no gold to give you.}

The dragon draws back his head, resting it on the flat roof. For a long while you merely stand there in silence, wondering whether or not this creature is about to try and bite your head off. Finally its voice fills your head, its tone vaguely disappointed. {That is no excuse. Slaves should control other slaves. I will have to kill you, and others.}

You channel vys, reinforcing the connection and forcing across an overwhelming sense of hesitance in the hope you might stall... Mushushu. What a stupid name. Are all dragons named like that? {Let me ask you, how would you feel if another dragon, your sibling, stole food from your mother and then you were punished for it?}

The dragon rears back its head, caught off guard by your question you'd guess. {No siblings, mother not do that. Could not. Would be unfair.}
(1/2)
>>
Ahh, now you've got him. {Exactly, it would be unfair. Yet that's exactly what you're doing to us. We're not involved with these people in the slightest but you want to kill us for what they did. How is that fair?}

The dragon leans towards you, twisting its head to one side so it can stare at you with two of its beady slitted eyes. {You speak well slave. You are right. I let you go, but the others burn. Is fair.}

You shake your head. {That's still not really fair, is it? I mean, look at you. You're a massive and powerful creature, that's obvious to anyone. These slaves-} Just referring to your own kind in a manner so disrespectful leaves a bad taste in your mouth, but now doesn't seem like a good time to go off on a tirade. {-are weak, and frankly quite stupid. They're offering to feed you, but I promise they truly have no money. They're giving you all they can.}

The dragon lowers its head further, until it's massive had is only a few bare feet away from you. It's head alone is larger than your entire body. It peers at you for what seems like ages, a dozen distorted versions of your reflection staring back at you from the surface of its copper scales. {Fine, but I search. If you lie, I find and kill. Know this.}

>Time to beat feat! You've probably bought yourself a thirty minute head start, maybe even an hour!

You drive your trident into the dragon's eye, two of its prongs stabbing into its slitted eyes while the third carves through the flesh of its snout. The dragon roars out in pain, rearing back its head and taking you with it. All of a sudden you're flying through the air with only a tenuous grasp on the haft of your spear to keep you from being hurled into space. You think you can hear Darzi shouting from below but you're a little too focused on not letting go of your spear to process what she's saying at the moment.

The dragon's head stops suddenly but your momentum carries you forward. You slam into the dragon's neck, hand barely managing to grab hold of that strange fin that protrudes from the top of its head. With a mighty effort you swing one of your legs up and over the dragon's back, leaving you straddling the giant lizard's neck as it desperately tries to shake your spear free of its head. The flesh around its eyes has already been eaten away, exposing the bone and sinew beneath, but something seems to be slowing the artifact's progress. The dragon's flesh melts away only slowly. Judging by the massive amounts of Metal magic pouring into your surroundings, you'd say it's Mushushu's own efforts.

{Madarikatua usurpatzaile hiru bider!} The dragon's voice booms, accompanied by a earth-shattering roar which threatens to very nearly shake you from your perch. {Hil egingo dut hau!} You have absolutely zero idea what in the Gods' names he's saying but you doubt it's good. You try to pull your trident free but it seems to have gotten stuck in the bone, the more you pull the more pissed off the dragon seems to get.

You hold on for dear life as it starts to shake its head back and forth violently, barely managing to maintain your position seated on its back. An arrow slams into the flesh of its snout not an inch from your hand, then three more slam into its neck. Three of the arrows snap, but one manages to plant itself firmly between two of the scales in its neck. Dark red blood starts to ooze from the wound, only to dry in an instant into a thick scab.

Stealing a brief glimpse down at your companions, you're not exactly happy with what you see. Chryssa is firing shot after shot into the dragon's side, many of her arrows managing to penetrate the dragon's hide but probably not doing much damage. Profectus' arm has ripped itself apart, pieces of stone orbiting its molten core, but he seems hesitant to fire. He's probably worried about hitting you.

Darzi doesn't share those qualms. She's holding her spear like some sort of javelin, shooting bolts of vys from the blade. You weren't aware her spear could do that. She plinks away, each shot scorching a black mark on the dragon's flank but doing little else besides.

You don't actually see Mortia anywhere.

Rising to it's feet the dragon tenses its leg muscles beneath it. You're filled with dread as you realize just what's happening. Hurling itself off the roof its wings snap out to catch the hot air rising off the desert, its wings kicking up a sand storm in miniature as it struggles to climb higher. From the corner of your eye you see Zahak has leaped from his hiding place and is shooting towards you like an arrow from a bow, but you're not sure if he's going to reach you before this dragon manages to hurl you from its back.

Would the dragon's soul be our soul now? Or would it switch continue to degrade while in our body? Or would the magic that causes the swap interrupt the soul degradation from the spear?

Couldn't we just use telepathy to tell our companions what happened, using the fact that we said earlier that the dragon couldn't speak Samjam as leverage? Couldn't we have Zahak vouch for us? Wouldn't it be cool if we were a fucking dragon, since it would be really easy for us to shapeshift into a mostly Samjan form, as the swap would not change how we think.

Honestly I think this would be a good thing. Here's hoping that's what the dagger does.

Using the haft of the trident to support yourself, you reach into your cloak and extract that bronze dagger you stole from that tomb. Its bronze blade gleams brilliantly in the sunlight, revealing veins of silver running through the blade's surface that you hadn't noticed in the dark of the tomb.

You brace the dagger against the base of the dragon's skull, preparing to plunge the blade into the dragon's brain stem when suddenly Mushushu dips one of his wings, sending his body spiraling rapidly through the air. You're thrown from the dragon's neck and forced to cling to the haft of your spear for dear life, channeling vys into your limbs to enhance your innate strength.
>Vys Pool: (45/58)

An idea occurs to you. A dangerous, insane, brilliant idea. {Zahak, I need you to get underneath me and get ready. I'll need you to catch me. Do you understand?}

Zahak's answer is a brief sense of affirmation before he starts to pull himself up underneath his much larger kin. He gets closer and closer, until he's only a few feet underneath you and slightly behind. You figure that's as good as you can hope for, and with as much strength as you can muster pull yourself up towards Mushushu's head. You swing your arm forward, the dagger slowed only slightly by Mushushu's hide.

Power floods through you, the dagger rapidly sucking vys from the dragon's wound and forcing it to mingle with your reserves. It's violent and crude, but damn if it doesn't feel good. Your let yourself slip away just as the dragon goes limp, starting its long descent to the desert below.

You slam into the saddle on Zahak's back and grab hold of one of the spines protruding from his back just in time, because Zahak takes a nose dive to avoid the tumbling corpse of the much larger dragon you just killed, or at the very least crippled. Vys pours from the wound in the back of its neck, so much that it forms a visible trail of multicolored light which follows the dragon's corpse on its journey towards the ground.

Zahak veers left, snapping his wings out to catch the air and level out his flight path. You're afforded a glimpse of the inn, suddenly far, far below, and aren't exactly happy to see a large crowd of onlookers crowding around the tavern door, their upturned faces indistinct from this distance. You can't pick out Profectus, Chryssa, Darzi, or Mortia amongst the crowd, but there are a few figures moving away from the inn, towards about where you think the dragon ought to land. Those are probably them.

The dragon smashes first into the side of a butte, knocking loose a shower of rocks as well as your trident. The dragon spins briefly before smashing into a dune, while your trident sails off to embedd itself in the sands a short distance away. You can't tell if it also freed your dagger in the process.

>Tell Zahak to land, see if the Dragon's still alive.

Running a hand along the scales on Zahak's neck, you push your thoughts across the thin membrane that separates his mind from yours. {Land near the base of the butte, I want to retrieve my trident before I risk getting close to our foe. I'm fairly confident I managed to kill him but you can never be too careful about these things.}

Zahak dips one of his wings, sending you on a long, slow spiral towards the desert sands. As you descend his thoughts meld with your own, every word dripping concern. {Did you really have to kill him, Papa? Couldn't we have just scared him off?}

You frown, considering your answer carefully before responding. {Yes, Zahak. What I did was necessary. While I'm sure there are many dragons out there who are reasonable, this one was not. He wanted to extort gold and food from the innkeeper and would have disrupted trade in the region. Not to mention, he might have pillaged my family's lands if left to his own devices.}

Zahak seems deep in thought, neglecting to respond until after he's brought you in for a rough landing in the midst of a dune. {So, sometimes it's in the best interest of everyone that someone dies? Like, robbers and mean people. It's good for them to die, because they hurt others.}

You dismount Zahak, patting him affectionately on the neck. {Not quite, Zahak. The punishment has to match the crime. Killing someone just because they're mean is an overreaction. If you kill someone, it must be either in self-defense or in the interest of a greater good. In this case, killing this dragon saved the lives of dozens, if not hundreds of others. Do you understand?}

>>
He bobs his head. {I think so. Thanks, Papa.} You don't really get the sense that he quite understands, but honestly he's a bit young to be struggling with such titanic moral quandries as whether or not murder can be an honorable and just act. Leaving Zahak to his thoughts, you treck towards the miniature crater in the sand from which the haft of your trident protrudes.

You pluck the weapon from the sand, pleased to see that there isn't a drop of blood on any of the prongs. It feels somehow like the trident has gotten stronger, there's a certain weight to it that wasn't there before. It's a hard thing to quantify, but it might be worth studying later on. With trident in hand and your shield melded to the Warlock Armor's bracer, you set off towards the massive corpse of the dragon you've felled with Zahak trailing a short distance behind.

When you crest the rise of a dune to look down upon the scene of carnage that is the dragon's final resting place, you find your companions waiting for you. Darzi looks pissed off, her arms folded beneath her chest and hips cocked indignantly to one side.

Rather than bother dealing with Darzi's inevitable lecture you turn your attention to Mortia. “Where on Earth did you get off to? I turn around and you're gone.”

Mortia, who's removed that creepy mask she was wearing earlier and stored it only the Gods know where, frowns. “I was trying to scale the side of the inn to get up to the roof and help, but the dragon flew off before I was able to do anything worth mentioning. I was really looking forward to getting to use my Mom's sword too.” She hefts the long bronze blade for emphasis.

You pat Mortia's shoulder consolingly. “It's fine, Mortia. I managed to hold my own and I'm sure you'll have plenty of other opportunities to use that sword of yours. Do you want any samples from this giant corpse we've managed to recover?”
(2/4)
>>
Mortia's eyes light up and she nods her head eagerly before following you towards the half burried corpse of Mushushu. Your other companions fall in alongside you. Channeling a bit of Earth magic you clear away the sand which the corpse is burried in, finding your dagger still lodged firmly in its neck. You take a moment to brace your foot against the felled dragon's scales and grab hold of the hilt, jerking the dagger violently from its flesh.

Flicking blood off the blade you tuck it into your cloak. Mortia has already pulled out a knife of her own and is carefully carving away a patch of scales. You're debating on whether or not to give the dragon a few more stabs with your trident when Darzi grabs you by the shoulder, drawing your attention away from the corpse.

“What was that about, Mik?” She sounds annoyed, but you wouldn't really call her angry. Even she can't quite help but be impressed. “Couldn't you at least give us a little warning before hauling off and stabbing a dragon in the eye? I mean, what if you'd lost your grip on the haft of that spear? A two hundred foot drop is more than enough to kill a Vatis regardless of how skilled they might be, Mik.”

Gods, why can't she just be happy for you? “Can we not argue about hypotheticals, Darzi? What happened is that I killed a dragon almost singlehandedly, a dragon that wasn't some weak, defenseless hatchling. We should be celebrating! We're going to be heroes, mark my-”

The air fills with an overpowering hum and for an instant the everything is red. The heat is so intense that the sand beneath your feet starts to melt into glass. Yet, as quickly as it came the light and heat and sound are gone. In their place there's a deafening silence, the air smelling of a strange, acrid substance you can't quite place.

Mik can sometimes be a pretty good guy, then turn around and be the dickiest fuck you've ever seen

Turning slowly, you find Profectus standing with his stone arm outstretched. Where once the dragon's head had been, now there is nothing but a hole bored through sand and stone. It's body simply ends at the neck. Profectus deflates, his arm falling to his side and his posture slumping. He takes great gulps of air in a futile attempt to catch his breath before turning towards you and Darzi. “It was starting to move.” That's all he can muster by way of explanation.

>Alright, the kill's confirmed. Arange to meet your companions further down the road and mount up on Zahak.

Pretty sure he was one of the guys who had GM potential. As it stands he is just as good as us with fire magic, thought it seems he might want to focus on control for his specialty. Prof with an invisible stream of super heated fire from his arm would be like a light saber but ever better. Recall how stupid tough dragon scales are. And he just vaporized that fuckers head. Even if he had to pump more vys into doing so than would appear strictly necessary.

Reminder that soma said that teaching SK enchanting would help him a metric shit ton.

You wander over to where Profectus is standing at the end of a long line of black glass. You have to admit, that arm of his is an impressive piece of work. You only wish you understood how it works. Still, it is a shame he didn't aim just a little bit lower. You wanted to take the head for yourself as a trophy. Such is life, you suppose.

You decide congratulations are in order, and so clap your friend companionably on the back. “You did good, Profectus. That was some quick thinking. Only complaint is that you didn't aim a bit lower to preserve the head, but really. The last thing we need is a surprise attack from a dragon.”

He smiles weakly, placing both hands on his lower back and stretching carefully. “Thanks Mik, just wish using this arm didn't take so much out of me. It's been getting easire, since I started to get better with Fire magic. Plus I can do this now.” He holds out his stone arm and you feel a pulse of vys. Before your very eyes his fingers melt together, forming themselves rapidly into a stone blade with a razor thin edge. With another pulse of vys his hand quickly resumes its normal shape. “Just gotta keep at it, I suppose.”

You nod your head sagely. “That's the attitude to have, Prof. I mean just look at me. How many times have I needlessly risked my life in the hopes of gaining power?” You pause only briefly, resuming before he has an opportunity to answer. “Innumerable times, I've quite literally lost count. You need that same drive if you hope to one day attain Grandmastery of your chosen element.”

With those wise words of wisdom you turn towards Zahak, scratching briefly at the base of his horns before hauling yourself into the saddle strapped to his back. Raising your voice, you address your companions as a whole. “I'm going to fly ahead, since I'd rather not try to answer questions about why I ride around on a dragon.”

(1/2)
>>
Chryssa butts in, her voice is usual deadpan. “Have you considered not riding around on a dragon, if that's the case?”

Profectus scoffs. “Chrys, now's hardly the time for you go throwing around your crazy ideas. Can't you see we're trying to have a serious discussion here?”

You clear your throat. “Yes, well. The fact is what's done is done. I'll trust you all to retrieve the carriage and meet me up the road a few miles, yes?”

Darzi rubs her eyes wearily. “I suppose, Mik. Pani's magnificent tits I hope the rest of the day can be something resembling peaceful.”

Mortia smiles solemnly. “I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you Darzi.” She pauses to rip away a massive sheet of dragon scales, nearly as long as she is tall. “I tend to have a sense for this sort of thing, and that sense is telling me that the day is far from over.”

With those ominous words still hanging heavy in the air you urge Zahak upwards. He leaps from the sands of the dune and snaps out his wings, the muscles on his shoulders bulging outward as he struggles to gain altitude. A sharp turn brings you out into the open desert, the roadside inn quickly vanishing behind the rise of a cliff.

Say, do you know who *can* teach him and is a much better teacher in general? Who happens to also have knowledge of many of the runes we discovered? Who lives right next to our villa comparatively? Our Master. He taught Mortia, a humie. We can probably get him to teach Skull Kid, if we bring him some Grade A Elaudian opium.
