"So yer sayin' that our big team mission is to 'go get honey'? Yer gonna make us into beekeepers?! Are ye bein' serious!? How is that a challenge?!"
"What are Bees?" Fritelli responds without a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Slowly, your hand raises into the air. This conversation is interesting and all, but there's something else that is in the back of your mind.

You are Yuuki Kuchinashi, and this 'training' stuff isn't going the way that you thought it would. Granted, it really hasn't started just yet. Fritelli just informed us that she intends for us to work toward a large team exercise sometime in the future. It's just hard to concentrate on it when there's another serious problem in the back of your mind.

"Can I go find Kayda!?" You yell at Jack. He notices your hand just as he gets done listening to Fritelli's training regiment.
"Yar, sure. I guess." He has his hand cupped over his face. Clearly, he did not like what she had to say.

With a quick bow, you stand up and bound off in the direction that Kayda disappeared. She rounded the corner of the training grounds, and couldn't have gotten far at her walking speed.

--

"Kayda!" you yell at her. She seems too lost in her thoughts to notice your voice.

Slowly, you approach where she is standing. From what you can see, she's staring at her own reflection in a puddle.

>Call out to her again, get her attention!
>Leave her alone. She doesn't want to be bothered right now.
>Drag her back to Training, it's good for her.
>Sneak up to her and talk. (Dice 1d20)

Hey there Announcer. Havin' a good day?
>>
>>42521989
Way, way better than last week.

Being sick with a stomach virus is miserable. When I first handed in my leave slip, I thought 'Oh boy! Maybe I can catch on my quests this week!'.

Oh was I wrong.

Stomach Virus? Ouch, the only thing you were gonna catch up on was some much needed toilet time.

"Kayda!" You yell once more for her attention.

Nope, she's still moping. She reminds you of how your little sisters would get when they didn't get their way. They, too, would just pretend that they didn't hear you or that you weren't trying to scold them.
It's irritating.

"Kayyyda!"
She jumped a little, that must mean she at least recognizes that you're trying to get her attention. That's a good start.

You walk a little closer, and notice that she's trying to look away from your approach.
"KAYDA!"

Her head snaps in your general direction, "WHAT? JUST GO AWAY!"

Hah! Yes!
"Hey there Kayda! Is something wrong?" You smile warmly at her.
"You know exactly what's wrong! Go away, I don't want to talk right now!" Kayda starts trying to walk away from you, again.

"Not talking isn't going to make it any better."
"I don't want to be 'better'!"

She didn't notice, but you already slipped up beside her and grabbed onto her shoulder.

"Let go."
"No, Tell me what's wrong."

She stops, trying to struggle out of your grasp again. She gives up, and turns toward you.
"How do you live knowing that you'll never see your family again?" She leans into your hand.
"I don't know that I'll never see them again, do you?" You pat her head.

She thinks about your words for a few more moments,
"Do you think this is real?"

That question catches you off-guard.
"What?"
"Do you think, all of this is real. And that we're actually not dreaming right now?"

>Dismissive, "That's what has you upset? Really?"
>Understanding, "That's something to be worried about."
>"Does it matter?"

"Like-" You're still trying to get a grasp on what she's worried about, "Like, everything you've seen so far is so unbelievable that you cannot believe it to be anything other than your imagination?"
"Yeah! That! Do you feel that way, too?"

"Hmm." You put your hand to your chin. "That is something that would be worrying."
That's cute, she's making a face like your older sister used to make when she had to do writing lessons.

"Hey, hey. I'm just kidding."
"This isn't something to joke about, Yuuki! This is serious! Do you really believe that we're all really strong now? Or that we're incapable of dying?" She balls up her fists. "It just all seems like something that I'm imagining."

"Well, if I'm all in your head." You smile at her, "What do you think of me?"
"I think you only pretend to be mature and serious."

"Then, I must not be dreaming." You kneel down to about her eye level.
"I'm gonna tell Jack that you're actually really mean if you're not careful, Yuuki." Kayda puts on her serious face.

You laugh, "Kayda, listen. If this was all a dream, then you'll wake up from it soon, right? You always have."
"Yeah, but-"

"Then don't worry about it. What difference does it make? What matters is that you're having fun, right?"
"I don't think that's all that matters-"

"Then it's settled!" You stand up and tap her on the shoulder. "Let's go."
"Go where.."

>I heard you say you didn't like your summoner, let's go talk with her some.
>Back to training, to get your mind off things.

The drinking thing should only be done with someone responsible...or well, knowledgeable about drinking.

"I heard you say that you didn't like your summoner very much, is that true?"
".. I don't like being around her."

You and Kayda walk along the moat surrounding the castle. It's mostly quiet here. In the distance, the occasional sounds of the training yard can be heard. It's a good place to walk and have a conversation.
"Why don't you like her?"

Kayda curls up her fists again,
"We're NOTHING alike. She's so bitchy, and arrogant. She doesn't like doing anything that could get her clothes dirty or anything that might make someone mad. She's so passive, but also hides what she wants. And she thinks she can order me around. Does she think I'm her bodyguard or something!?"

She spins on her heel and looks up at the castle. "She's up there RIGHT NOW just because she doesn't like spending time outside. She's up there moping. That's all she does now, is just mope. She rather sit inside a stone box crying to herself than come outside and play."
Kayda grumbles one last time, "If she doesn't even want to be happy, then why should I? I'm stuck with her."

"Kayda, she did just lose her castle and her home."
"Yeah but those guys were jerks anyway, shouldn't she be happy that she's gone? I would."

"It's still the only home she had. Isn't it sad for her to lose her home?"

Kayda stomps her foot,
"When I was a little kid, every summer we would pack up our home and move a league away for hunting season. I was sad the first couple of times because some friends moved away, but I didn't act like THAT! I don't have MY home right now, and I'm doing just fine!"

Before you can respond, you spot Alicot outside of the castle.
"Hey! Alicot!" you flag her down, "Can we see Princess Greta right now?"
"Oh, hey Yuuki. She said she didn't want to be disturbed."

>I'm going to go disturb her anyway

Hmph, she doesn't want to be seen then? That just means she wants to be seen even more, and she's trying to pretend like she wants to be sad and alone.

"Fine. But you know I'm probably going to go visit her anyway soon."
"How 'soon'?"
"I dunno, whenever I get time. Take care!"

You walk straight toward the bridge without even acknowledging that Kayda is pulling at your arm.
"I don't want to talk with her!"

"Kayda." You kneel down to face her eye-to-eye once again. "You can't live life running from your problems, Kayda. I'll be right there with you. I understand young girls, Greta will be a piece of cake."
"B-but."

"No buts." You put your finger over her mouth. "This will be a purely sister-to-sister talk. You're going to learn to love your summoner."

She crosses her arms and pouts.

Before you can even finish that thought, Konditorei's head maid bursts through the door to Greta's bedroom. You can't quite remember her name, so you instead watch as she rounds the corner of the hallway. She seems to be carrying a basket of clothes.

"Now's our chance!" You tug Kayda along, slipping into the bedroom just before the door shuts.

Inside, by the closet, is Greta. She has a light shirt which she is holding over the lower-half of her naked body. Her strangely broad shoulders and stout pecks are exposed. Along with a huge blush.
"H-Hey!? Yuuki?!" Greta squeaks.

Kayda interrupts, "I have some things I want to say, and-"

You say some apologies behind you and push Kayda out, then shut the door.

"What!? I thought we were gonna talk with her! This was your stupid plan!"

Your mind is racing with conflicting evidence. Trying to piece together what it was you just saw.

Broad shoulders, no breasts to speak of, defined abdomen, strong jawline.
That maid wanted to marry Greta and Kayda. Why? There were only males in successive line to Konditorei's throne.

"Are you even listening to me!?" Kayda huffs.

"Oh my god." Is all you can manage.

In terms of speed, tonight was slow. Couldn't be helped much due to work.

There's a writing technique I tried a while back with Bennet's one-off thread. I got quite a few updates in a short amount of time then. I might go back to it.

Until next time, let me know what you think.

I confess, it was something that kind of came together when I was reviewing my notes before the not-wedding.

The trick was when to have it exposed, because there was more than one instance that could have had it happen. You guys didn't seem to want to spend much time with her, so it sort of worked out.
>>
>>42527854
>>42527785
Adding to this: If that roll was anything less than a 20, there would have been hints; but not Yuuki putting 2 and 2 together.

>Yuuki
>ever not rolling a 20

Lucky rabbit luck still in play, it seems.

>You guys didn't seem to want to spend much time with her, so it sort of worked out.
To be fair, for most of the time she's been with the party, we have been surrounded by between 1 to 2 dozen other people. Some of which were actively engaging us (you know the ones).

Honestly, my opinion is that from time to time, the QM has to make the situation for characters to get a chance for development. Leaving it to anons will most of the time mean only revolving around a few characters they like. Especially true for waifus.

For example, Keiko. She is our summoner. Yet, what have we actually ever done with her for most of this quest? Little to nothing. And that's sad for being a important character to Jacks Hero situation.
