You are Altrich Belmont, and at long last you have emerged from the shadowed interior of Dracula’s accursed labyrinth. It feels like several days have passed since you entered Castlevania, yet the unnatural night that has settled over Transylvania has continued without end. You have fought through innumerable hordes of unholy minions, defeated supernatural terrors and clashed even with Death himself, and persevered. You have gathered many long-lost treasures and artifacts during your ordeals, and rather than weary, you have never felt more powerful. Nearing the chapel that rests at the highest level of the castle, you have climbed so high that you have even pierced the oppressive mist that chokes the countryside. A massive, swollen harvest moon hangs high above, bathing you in its foul light.

In your right hand, you clutch the fabled Vampire Killer, the ultimate treasure that has been passed down through the Belmont Clan for generations. With its unquenchable thirst to smite the unholy, you have come to strike down Dracula once and for all, ending his foul influence on Transylvania forever! You steel your resolve and continue onwards, climbing yet another set of stairs. The chapel looms before you, almost palpable evil radiating outwards. You know Dracula waits within. How do you proceed?

>A. You are no coward. Walk directly through the massive doors and fight him head on!

>B. You suspect treachery; look for an alternate entrance and attempt to ambush him.

Of course you will behave with honor; even if your foe is the epitome of evil, you are a Belmont, and you are no coward! The strength of your arm and your blood shall avail you far better than any tricks. You approach the massive chapel doors, and with a mighty kick, send them bursting open. Tendrils of occult incense snake out from within as you enter and are swallowed by the darkness. Dusty pews line the chapel, and as you walk down their length, braziers and candles flare to life, casting a pellucid blue glow on all. You halt before the gargantuan altar, and a great chandelier suddenly casts its illumination down from above. A mere fifty feet from you, Count Vlad Tepes Dracula languidly reclines on a throne constituted of what appear to be human skulls. He holds a crystal goblet of dark crimson liquid, sloshing it lazily back and forth with one hand. He regards you with a bemused smirk.

You square yourself, taking up a combat stance. “This charade ends now, monster! I am Altrich Belmont, and by my hand, you shall pay for your crimes!” you shout, and your words carry a satisfying weight to them as they echo through the lofty chapel. Dracula raises his goblet to his lips and drinks deeply before speaking. “You are not the first Belmont to oppose me, and you shall not be the last. You are to be commended for making it this far, yet you are mistaken in purpose! Mankind shall destroy itself if left alone. Like a father guides a child astray, I shall rule over all and guide them to glorious purpose! Leave this place, boy, before I lose my temper.”

You feel a familiar rage building inside of you. All of the innocents that have been slain by Dracula's army of darkness burn in your mind, and you clench your fists. How do you proceed?

You shout, incredulous. “What sort of father devours the flesh and very souls of his children?! You are twisted, fiend, and I will hear no more of your madness! Prepare yourself! I carry the weight of all those you have wronged, and you shall pay for your crimes before God!” With that, you advance slowly on the Count, climbing the steps to the altar proper. Forty-five feet. Forty. Thirty-five. You break into a sprint, raising Vampire Killer with your right arm! Twenty feet!

Dracula rises from his throne of skulls, and unholy strength radiates from him, taking the form of a devilish glow! He casts his goblet away with a flick of his wrist, and shakes his head. “What is a man but a miserable pile of secrets? Enough talk! Have at you, then!” As Dracula utters the last syllable, he bursts into mist, discorporating from sight. His deep, booming laughter fills the chapel, as the massive double doors slam shut far behind you. You whirl about, knowing he is going to try to ambush you, and come face to face with his outstretched claws! Luckily, your honed reflexes are more than a match, and you duck quickly before planting a powerful kick directly into Dracula’s abdomen; unfortunately, it is like kicking a sculpture made of iron. You bound off of him, cracking the wooden floor as you land and he immediately begins dissolving into mist again. Utilizing the ranged advantage Vampire Killer grants you, a crack of your wrist sends the mighty flail right at his head! He grunts and tainted blood falls to the floor before he manages to completely dissolve. You grin savagely. Looks like first blood is yours this day!

A sudden building of light in your peripheral vision distracts you from your self-congratulation, however, as you whirl about to encounter several fireballs flying from Dracula’s outstretched hand toward your body at an alarming speed!

>Great Success
You whirl almost automatically, years of training having transformed your body into a well oiled machine. A machine that thirsts for justice. Vampire Killer flashes through the air as you expertly maneuver it at the oncoming projectiles. Enhanced by ancient alchemical arts and wielded by one trained nearly since birth to utilize it, Vampire Killer is easily able to slash through the fell magicks wielded by Dracula. You begin moving even as you deflect Dracula’s assault, closing the distance between you and your ancestral foe; it appears he would prefer to deal with you from a distance, having tasted the sting of your flail.

Surprise is clearly evident on his face, a nasty gouge directly above his left eye. He obviously did not expect you to counter his attack so expertly, and once again attempts to discorporate, though much slower than the previous attempts. With your free hand, you reach into the pouch on your belt and draw an enchanted dagger you managed to appropriate within the castle, turning Dracula’s own magical artifacts against him! You fling it at him, knowing the magic will take hold and cause it to fly true despite coming from your left hand. Dracula hisses in pain as the dagger thuds into his sternum, and then you are upon him. Flick! Crack! Vampire Killer crashes against him once, then twice, as you let out a savage battle cry! "Hyahhhh!" Deep, glowing wounds are carved into the vampire’s chest, and he leaps backwards, clearing five times the distance a mortal man could feasibly jump. “Accursed Belmont! You think yourself my better?! I merely underestimated you, thinking you a child! It appears I must punish you as I might an adult. You shall not get lucky again!" He shouts, as even more unholy power builds within him! A shockwave of force is released outwards from Count Dracula, and nearly half of the candles and torches are blown out instantly. You brace for impact, yet even so find yourself sliding back.

YEP sorry, it's late and I decided I really needed tea.

>>42532655
Dracula decides that as you are skilled enough to fell a handful of bulky projectiles, he will overwhelm you with quantity over quality! “Take this!” With a flick of his cape, dozens upon dozens of black, crackling arrows of darkness are unleashed at you consecutively! Time seems to slow down as you scramble for a solution. Your previous strategy is impossible here, as there are simply too many arrows to fend off; you doubt you could reach your foe before they impact you, regardless. Thinking quickly, you decide to…

>A. Use your whip to grapple the chandelier above and Indiana Jones to safetly.
>B. Use your superior reflexes to run along the wall directly to your left. Very difficult, but you may catch him by surprise again.
>C. Take the hits! The best defense is an unstoppable offense!

>Commendable, yet…

You move like you have never before moved. It is as if every muscle in your body knows this is your darkest hour, and you are operating at maximum capacity. You sprint directly at the oncoming hail of black arrows, and at the last possible second, you place one foot on the stone bricks of the wall running parallel to your left. Then you bring up the other foot. You manage to keep moving at such an inhuman speed that you do not immediately fall to your doom; instead, you keep traction and run above the bombardment! Unfortunately, you do not catch Dracula by surprise. He smiles slightly, and his crimson eyes widen the tiniest bit. Uh oh. BOOM! The section of wall you are running on explodes beneath your feet as a massive swarm of vampire bats collides with the outside of it, blasting you and a torrent of bricks straight through the hail of magicks you were attempting to avoid in the first place; several puncture through your flesh, mainly your upper torso, and discharge some form of electricity, shocking you to the bone. Despite the agony, you tuck and roll, springing to your feet immediately and bringing Vampire Killer to bear! Moving with blinding speed, Dracula is already swinging his razor-tipped claws at you, raking you across the chest before retreating a safe distance. Burning warmth spreads through the wound almost immediately; some form of venom! You will need to end this soon, before it erodes your strength! Thus far, you and Dracula are evenly matched; though the undead menace does not show it, you know you have wounded him severely with your earlier onslaught. How do you proceed?

>A. You have one powerful artifact that you have been saving. Use it now! Turn the tides before it is too late!

>ITEM CRASH!

Sinking to one knee as the venom begins to rage through your body, you know you’ve no more time to lose; you must end this, and now! “You see, Belmont? This is the proper way of things! Kneel before me and plead for your life, and I may keep you as an undead servant! The chapel will need a thorough cleaning after I am through with you! Hahahaha!” Dracula speaks in a guttural snarl as his features continue to distort, becoming more bestial. The handsome visage he wore before is quickly fading. He advances toward you, walking at a fairly relaxed pace. It seems he assumes you are at his mercy now. Good. He will not expect what you have in store..
Reaching into your pouch, you quickly remove a battered and ancient looking crucifix. It is made of wood and is pathetically light in your hands, yet you know this to be an ancient artifact of absurd holy power! It seems as if Dracula had it sealed away so it could never be used against him. You take pleasure in this irony. You wait until Dracula is mere paces from you, and then you leap to your feet in a flash! Dracula darts forward, attempting to claw your carotid artery from your throat before you can press an advantage, yet you thrust the crucifix directly into his face before crushing it in your hands. BOOM! FLASH! A blindingly bright white light suddenly fills the chapel, and Dracula howls in agony! A column of holy energy crashes down on the both of you, filling you with vigor and easing your wounds even as it rips the flesh from Dracula’s accursed body, dissolving him with purifying white light!

>>42533022
“NO! IT SHALL NOT END THIS WAY, BELMONT!” he roars, exploding in foul darkness and growing three, four, five times his size and losing any semblance of humanity he had been trying to maintain! His clothing rips to shreds and is replaced by thick, plated skin. At last, he shows his true form! He fights against the onslaught and attempts to reach you with a clawed, massive hand. The dark forces contained within him fight against the holy light you wield. You rebel against his power!

>God Has Forsaken You
You give it your all. No, you give it more than that. You put every ounce of your soul into your final magical attack, and it appears to be working; Dracula is slowly driven back, flesh smoking and peeling off and turning to ash as the holy light enacts divine judgment on this terrible evil. Yet suddenly, with a bestial roar, Dracula pushes forward, his own fell magicks working to oppose the spell. And slowly, slowly but surely… he starts winning. Dracula’s darkness enters the pillar of holy power, and slowly transforms it into a dull gray, and then a dark gray; there is very little pure white energy left. You roar in agony as the unholy energies enter your body, and lock eyes with the beast you came here to destroy. You open your mouth, and you snarl out one last sentence. “Another will come.”
Blackness takes you.

>TEN YEARS LATER…

And that’s where we shall end things. Very interesting turn of events! This thread sets a nice backdrop of the quest proper. Thanks for playing guys, despite the late hour. Criticism/comments welcome. Will be running again tomorrow, probably fairly early. 11-12ish PST? I have a twitter now:

Well, you didn't "fuck up" or anything. You fought pretty good and made the right calls so you just sort of stalemated with Dracula and then the dice wouldn't grant you the final

All I can say is that Altrich was not going to remain the PC whether you won or not. Dracula's victory has certainly changed the setting, and even the PC we'll ultimately be playing with, though.
>>
>>42533220
Was Altrich the first belmont to ever lose to dracula or was it just the line of belmonts that keep fighting dracula but never winning?
>>
>>42533231
Altrich was the first Belmont to fail. Dracula has been defeated several times, but always finds a way to come back. None have been able to permanently defeat him, which is what Altrich set out to do.

It's okay anon, it actually could have been worse! You barely lost. A 45+ might've been a pyrrhic victory, a 50 would've been a NARROW win, with increasing levels of success.

If you got less than 30, terrible happenings would have happened.
>>
>>42533308
I really hope that dracula got taken out of the game for the 10 years. At least that would have given the belmonts some time to get someone to finish the job.

peace out mist.
