After taking care of all sorts of business in and around Pearl (mostly meeting people), you're back with Tia, as promised.

Your Lunar Mate is just... gleeful. Beaming. She looks like she could break in a musical number at any time, or just start jumping up and down on the spot, and she's holding your hand with enough strength to shatter concrete.

You promised you'd go shopping with her for wedding dresses, to prepare for your impeding doom- err, ceremony.

Normally, Valeriana makes your clothes. She's not... technically a specialized tailor, but she seems to know how to make just about everything, and even her first casual attempts at clothing were world-class. (and also almost indestructible)

But... considering how busy Valeriana is right now, you're pretty sure she's not going to have time to make a dress for you.

There's a large clothes store in Tianna, fortunately, which, at least according to Amata, also does wedding dresses.

Or... an idea just strikes you. Silk might not have a lot of gossamer right now, but she surely has vastly more than enough to spin a dress for you. Even if her sense for aesthetics is a bit... well, she's a fae. Yeah.

Tia steps on the window ledge, huge grey-black wings exploding out of her back. "Let's go!" She pulls you closer to her and picks you up in her hands in a princess carry, enthusiastic.

>Alright, well, they probably have a good enough selection in Tianna.
>Alright, but mention to Tia that Silk might have or be able to make some clothes as well.
>Ask Tia if she wouldn't rather try and ask Silk first, since you're in Pearl and she's just a short walk away.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
Now you have built a solid power base, and worked hard to draw the attention and earn the trust of the Unconquered Sun. What will your next step be?

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Going to Silk so soon is like cheating and skipping the date. Remember, it's not just buying a dress, it's spending time with Tia while looking for a dress.

While you're pretty sure that, working with Gossamer and her own glamour and enchantments, Silk could make a dress that no mortal tailor could match, you're not... entirely sure it's a good idea right now.

Not that you don't trust her, but Tia seems to be in a mood, and she wants to go shopping, so off to shopping you go.

She carries you in her arms effortlessly, leaping off the high window from Golden Reach and taking flight eastwards.

"Are you so anxious to shop for a wedding dress?" You wonder, noticing the speed she seems to be picking up.

She nods eagerly. "Because, it's been a while since we went out together properly."

Well, after the battle, you've had some pretty... intimate moments, but she's right, isn't she. You haven't really had the time to just... go out. Take a walk, relax, go on a date together, things like that.

Up to now, most of the times you had some private time alone, stuff happened and then next thing you realize it's morning of the day after and you broke a lot of furniture during the night.

But, now that things are settling down and you're both not as busy, it makes sense for Tia to want to try doing other stuff together as well.

The flight is long, a bit rocky, but very fast, and Tia flaps to a halt and lands in the middle of Main Street in Tianna quite casually. This causes a bit of a scene, even though by now the people of Tianna City are quite used to you and even the maybe slightly unsettling scene of Tia's wings merging back into her body doesn't draw more than a lot of curious, slightly terrified stares.

Of course, this doesn't mean you aren't noticed, and everyone's eyes are always on you as you walk across the streets.

Reconstruction has been remarkably fast and efficient, no doubts thanks to Valeriana and Mikahil's combined efforts. Nearly all of the rubble is out of the way, or packed to the side in order to not be an obstruction, and several buildings are being rebuilt, renovated or repaired.

As you pass by, some of the citizens cheer at you, others bow, either out of respect or awe. A few change street or hide in alleyways, but you have the feeling that it's more because they're not sure how to react to your presence, rather than any sort of fear or hatred.

A corner of your mind has to wonder how Solars were treated by the common man in the First Age. Probably, judging by the carvings you found in the Titan, with groveling, or not at all.

Following Amata's directions, you in a part of the city that has been left relatively untouched by the battle, and arrive in front of a large, two-story brick building. A corner of it apparently took a blast from an essence discharge weapon, but the damage is very small.

"Come on let's go let's go." Tia pulls you inside, barely remembering about opening the door before going through it.

Inside you're greeted by a (quite surprised by your sudden appearance, though he seems to have been expecting you) well-dressed and distinguished man in perhaps his late 40s, graying at the temples, with a bit of an air of authority, and five assistants wearing similar outfits, who bow ceremoniously to you. All around, you see that they must've brought out their best stock for you, as the shop's entrance hallway's walls are lined with dresses on mannequins.

"Divine Maka!" The man bows a second time. "It is truly marvelous to have you here in our humble store. Please, feel free to try or request anything from our staff. We are at your complete disposal."

"Thank you. We'll take a look around, if that's alright." You reply, and the owner seems impressed by this simple polite response. Probably worried that you were going to ignore him or be bossy about it.

Meanwhile, Tia is already tiptoeing around the store.

You lose sight of her for a moment, then she pops back from the other side of a line of mannequins: "There's almost nothing in your size!" She says, sounding a bit concerned.

"Well... I'm sure they can be fixed, right?" You ask, turning to the assistants that are following you. A couple of them, two young women in the store's black uniform, give you a long look full of envy, but sign and nod. "...Yes, we can try and adjust them." One replies.

"How about this?!" Tia pops back out of the line of dresses blocking your sight, with, in hand... a half-empty can of cyan paint and a large brush.

You give a quizzical look at the assistants, who roll their eyes. "...We were repainting the walls. The earthquake shook some of the plaster off."

Not him, but I don't see the problem. Maka could go naked and still be considered the one with the best fashion sense. Anything Maka wears is perfect on her, even nudity.

Hell, she was naked during the ceremony after finishing the manse to symbolize of purity and honesty, which wedding dresses are all about. Paint should be enough to satisfy Amata, as long as its blue.
>>
>>42556808
We came to get a few good dresses. We might as well wear Silk because she's blue, is what I'm gathering from what you say.

Which I don't have a problem with, but since we came all this way to get a dress, we should get a dress.
>>
You giggle at the thought. "...Not a bad idea, Tia. Let's consider it and keep looking."

She makes a happy noise and dives back into the clothes.

One of the assistants shoots you an "are you serious" look, to which you only smile and shrug.

With their help, you walk around a bit and pick a few more clothes, while Tia also picks others, partially at random you can only guess. She still looks like she's having the time of her life.

Overall, the selection is quite wide, but fairly conservative, without much of the wildly flamboyant, more-than-a-bit-exhibitionist style of Silk and Valeriana's creations. And, well, it makes sense, this is a store that serves the entire population, while your other clothes were mostly made just for you. Still, you admit that they're quite good.

After a couple of hours of narrowing down your selections, you gather 17 dresses (18 if you count the can of paint, and you're not too sure you should), all of which have Tia's seal of approval. None is quite of your size, but the staff assures you they can be fit to you (though you still catch them staring at your unrealistic proportions sometimes, and probably wondering if they'll really be able to).

(if any of you has a dress he'd like to suggest, post it in the thread, or link it if you think it might be NSFW. after half a hour from now i'll add them to my own gallery and when we'll vote.)

Random question, but can we basically assume that given a reasonable amount of time anything that isn't top secret for one reason or another will be known to any of our friends/minions who have a reasonable need to know? I'm mainly asking because we seem to spend quite a bit of time telling people various things and I was honestly surprised that no one had told Pyre Spark about the wedding yet last time.
>>
>>42558325

I assume that word goes around between the NPCs so that everyone is GENERALLY kept up to date with anything that's not secret or confidential. Not always, mind you, just for the sake of having some misunderstandings every now and then, but most of the time.

This is to avoid wasting time, basically. Assume that Maka talks to them off camera about things you already know. Mostly because it would be boring.
>>
>>42558376
I guess that also means that just because we haven't seen someone on screen in a while doesn't necessarily mean Maka hasn't spoken to them at all?

One thing I meant to mention last thread but forgot, I'd like to meet Amata's other kids before the wedding if that's possible. Just to introduce them to the person marrying their mom.

It takes a while for you and Tia to narrow your choice down. The poor girl is a bit dismayed when you set aside the can of paint, but recovers quickly by saying "Well, we can do that on the honeymoon anyway."

"We actually need that paint. It's not on sale." One of the assistants rolls her eyes, exasperated. "Besides, it's wall paint."

"I'll buy you a can later." You reassure her before turning about and showing them the one dress you picked. "I'd like this one. It's... a bit short and tight for me, but it can be adjusted, right?"

"It... we should have more of this fabric in stock, we can adjust it a bit" They nod to each other, a bit nervously. "It'll be ready... in two days? Three at most."

One of the girls gulps and steps forward with a chalk and a tape measure. "I... I m-m-might need to tak- to take your measurements."

"Oh." You reply, slightly amused. "Alright. What do I need to do?"

You let your dress disappear off your body with your charm, which catches them all by surprise. They recoil a bit, look away, but after they notice you're not reacting and are waiting for them to just take the measurements, they timidly approach you.

They're walking on eggshells, though. You try to be as pleasant and friendly as possible - after all, these people are just doing their jobs, and you're their customer right now. Tia quietly stand by while they measure you up, but she has the smuggest, proudest grin ever, like she's the one showing you off.

While at first they were even too careful, they end up taking your sizes multiple times - a first you have to wonder if they're enjoying it. (well, you're not in a hurry). But then you figure that they just keep thinking that they must be wrong.

"...125-70-115." You overhear one of them muttering in shock and disbelief, while another runs out of the door crying.

"...Is there a problem?" You ask, shaking them out of their trance.

"N-NOTHING! You're very... you're very tall." She smiles and twitch, hiding her notepad behind her back. "It's going to be hard to a-adjust the dress, and it might be a bit uncomfortable because it doesn't offer much s-support..."

"...Oh, don't worry. It's going to be alright."

She rolls her eyes. "...I'l sure it will."

"Will your friend be alright?" You nod at the door.

"She... does that sometimes." The assistant groans. "We'll have your dress fixed in two days. It will be 18 red cowries, unless you plan on just borrowing it for the ceremony and then returning it, instead of buying it."

1) False, because the man can be led astray by a picture of beauty he then tries to fit onto his wife, failing, chipping away at his relationship, thinking every time "I wish my wife was beautiful like Maka". Even strong bonds can suffer through time and constant exposure to whores.

2)Again, see the above: the man starts thinking "I want a wife that is be like Maka" and is unsatisfied with the spouse he has who, of course, cannot hope to gain more of his affection because she'll never be as beautiful as Maka, who's constantly showing off her perfect body.

It's not Maka's problem, but she's the source of discontent and the woman knows it. She lost the love of her life because of her and cannot forgive Maka for what she's caused.

Or another example, where the man is seemingly unaffected by Maka's wiles:
>It's night: the woman and her husband sleep, after yet another evening without sexytimes.
>She wakes, because he keeps mumbling and whispering in his sleep.
>She hears him... she hears him uttering a name: Maka's name.
>Finally, she understands... how she lost his affection, his embrace.
>She reasons that his desires are for Maka, in his sleep. Not for her.
>And therefore she hates. And this hate grows ever stronger.

You take the paper and quill the owner offers you and write them a note of credit for 18 Red Cowrie shells, plus 2 for "a job well done and a helpful staff".

It's not even as expensive as some wedding dresses get, and you suspect that they might have slashed the price anyway. Right now you're not quite so rich that you can spend like money is no object at all, but you can spare more than a bit cash on frivolities like these.

Satisfied by your purchase, and with an even more satisfied Tia in tow, you head out and into the street. behind you, the assistants begin closing up the shop. It's getting late, the sun is setting, and people are starting to clear the streets. Even though Tianna City is recovering, there just isn't the mood for doing much other than going to sleep after dark. The inns, bars and pubs, the nightlife of the city, are asleep as well today.

"...You like showing me off, am I right?" You ask Tia out of the blue, remembering how giddy she was back them.

"Of course!" She grabs your arm. "I have the best and awesomest wife in the universe. Everyone must know."

So proud. So bright.

"What do you want to do?" Tia asks. How unusual.

You think about it for a second. "...It's almost night. Why don't we take a walk around town? It's so silent and... it's a bit romantic, don't you think?"

She seems to think about it, in fact. Her sense of what counts as "romantic" has always been a bit off, but she nods, deciding that, if you say so, it must be right.

With a flourish, you change your clothes in something a bit more fitting the occasion. "There's not much to do. Shops are closing, and the city's going to sleep. I'm not sleepy, and I don't have anything to do until tomorrow."

She nods, takes you in hand, and you walk together, in silence, among the dark streets of Tianna.

As you walk by, gently caressed by the warm night breeze, up Main Street, you stumble upon a familiar spot in Tianna's artisans' district. "...Hey, Tia? Remember that side alley?"

With the city being this dark and this silent, the narrow alley looks like the perfect place where a normal girl still around this late could get in serious trouble, if you weren't reasonably sure that everyone, even would-be muggers and worse, are locked in their houses tonight.

"It's where we met." She flashes you a toothy grin. "You punched a demon in two, and we murdered some Lintha together."

"Then you tried to rape me, and ended up braking down and crying." You retort.

You look at each other in the eyes for a few seconds, then both start laughing.

"Wow. That feels like years ago." You say to yourself. "...Normally, this is the point where you'd ask me to pick back up from where we left off that time."

"...I wasn't thinking straight." She shakes her head. "I missed you so much at the time. I hadn't even really met you yet, but I always felt like I was missing something. A piece of me." She holds you closer to her. "But now we're together. And I'm fine."

As you continue your walk, she adds: "Besides, I'm saving myself for marriage now."

There are so many things wrong with that statement that you're not quite sure how to communicate them.

"...What?" Well, you tried.

She gives you her best I-know-something-you-don't smug grin. "Next full moon, you'll see."

What is she planning? If it has to do with the full moon, it can't be good. Or, well, it could be amazingly good depending on the point of view. Either way, you are curious now.

You look up to the sky to see a waning crescent. "...Tia, the next full moon will be in two weeks."

"I know." She replies. Well, of course she does, she's as attuned to the phases of the moon as you are to the position of the sun in the sky.

"You're trying to tell me that you're going to hold off sex until not just our marriage ceremony, but for two whole weeks?" You ask in disbelief. "What are you planning?"

Again that grin. "Surprise."

"No way you can do it." You shake your head. "You usually go in withdrawal after two days."

But she keeps that grin up. "You'll see."

>Fine, I'll do my best to help you.

Her smile and optimism: gone. "N-no, wait a minute. If you go serious on me... there's no way I'll ever be able to hold out that long. I-I was hoping you'd help-"

"No help." You step closer to her menacingly, and she withdraws. "No handouts. No mercy."

You almost never got to see Tia actually scared. And maybe you're enjoying it a bit too much.

"...what are we betting?" She wimpers.

She's so cute when she thinks she has a chance.

But what can you bet with her? It's not like she has anything. And even being kinky about it would be... quite redundant. Walking around in silly or shameful dresses won't work either: she probably wouldn't understand it.

What could you bet with her? Or you could just have a token bet, like a cowrie.

"The bet's this." You explain to her. "If you win, for a week, I'll do anything you ask me to."

Her eyes gleam. "...Anything?"

"I'll take a week off, all for you. No meeting people, no work, no spending time doing anything except what you tell me to. And you can tell me to do anything." You whisper enticingly. "Anything."

For a moment, you wondered if it was going to be the easiest win ever, because Tia looked like she was about to jump you right here and now.

"Wait. What if you win?" She immediately jumps back, holding you at arm's length.

You shrug. "Missing your surprise will be punishment enough. Besides, the odds are stacked against you, so it makes sense for you to have a bigger payoff." You playfully lean closer to her, expertly letting your dress expose your cleavage to her. "But are you really sure you want to do this~?"

She hesitates for a moment, then turns her back to you nervously.

While you tease her a bit more, you're distracted by hearing some soft, distant sobbing from another alley.

...That girl from the clothing store. Yeah, you wanted to find her... wait, is she lost around the city at night?

"We'll continue later." You whisper in Tia's ear, and then pull back, eliciting a sigh of relief from her.

The sobbing has turned to low but slightly distressed talking, with another voice joining in. Then a third.

"...Not good." you mumble to yourself. Maybe you were wrong when you thought that criminals were off the streets tonight.

Time to take a page from Starfall's book.

[p+n=10 9 8 2 1 7 = 5 successes]

You motion to Tia to stay silent, but you don't need to: she's already figured out something. She nods and stands back, close enough to help you in case anything goes wrong, but out of your way.

You leap up on top of a nearby building's roof, three stories high, and moving silently from rooftop to rooftop you reach the source of the commotion.

There, you find the girl from the clothing store, back against a wall, still in tears and distraught, with two individuals in dark clothing, quite apt at moving unseen in the night without drawing attention during the day, are holding her up.
One has a long, jagged knife in hand, kept pointed at her face from a distance, while the other is standing a bit behind him, keeping watch on the alley behind them. No one has seen you.

You can see the girl from the store going through her pockets, pulling out loose cowrie shells and odds and ends. tape measure, a pair of scissors, another cowrie shell on a string as a necklace, a small silver brooch...

"I didn't- I left my purse at work..." She mumbles, clearly afraid. "If only you'd let me go back-"

"Shut up." The unarmed man leans closer, and she falls silent. He grabs the items from her hands, without even bothering much to check them, and pockets them all together.

They're in a hurry. They want to be done as quick as possible.

"Angel'll be here any minute. We gotta leave!" The one with the knife urges his accomplice, while he briefly struggles for the brooch as the girl puts up a token resistance- which is about to earn her a hard slap across the face.

You react on instinct, and leap down from the roof, leaving a trail of blazing Essence behind you. Not using combat charms, it's just a lightshow, but what do they know?

Guy never know what hit him. You land square on his head and slam him to the curb, and he immediately passes out. You had to be actually careful not to crush him to death.

The other one stares at you wide-eyed for a second, then drops the knife and runs.

He's barely three steps away when a swarm of squidlike tentacles explode from one of Tia's arms, flash by and grab him, lifting him up to the sky screaming.

"...Don't kill him or eat him." You ask Tia.

"Probably wouldn't even taste good." She replies, looking uninterested. She casually slams him headfirst into a wall and lets him go, passed out on the curb next to his accomplice.

"...Th- thank you so much - these men... they were-" The girl panics a bit more, then starts to relax.

"...I saw them, don't worry." You reassure her.

She shoots you an odd glance. "...Wait, were you following me?"

You scratch your head. "Not quite, but I was worried for you, so when I heard you I tried finding you. Are you alright?"

She hugs her knees. "...Sorry for the mess." Lifting her head up a bit, she continues: "...I thought you'd be all... well, a lot more... I don't mean-" She stammers, realizing she dug herself in a verbal hole.

You shake your head. "Don't be. I think it's normal. You have nothing to be ashamed of."

"Really?" She looks up to you.

"Besides, being an Exalted also is a huge responsibility, and... well, I've been shot at with cannons, run through with swords, had walls collapse on me, even got my skin flayed off once." You start counting on your fingers.

"...You did?"

"I might not have scars to show for it, and eventually I got better, but I can assure you, it hurt like hell." You point at Tia. "This girl got her skull caved in by a giant hammer once."

"I've had worse." The Lunar replies.

You put a hand on her shoulder. "But if you really feel that way, then it's your heart saying that you can do better. Try and do your best everyday, and you too can shine under the sun."

"...Really? Even if it's something as boring as working as an apprentice at a tailor's shop?" She wonders.

You nod.

The two of you stay like that next to each other for a moment, until she can shrug off the adrenaline and stand up again without getting shaky.

"You never told me your name." You ask her.

She pats the dust off her clothes. "...Ioula."

"Do your best then, Ioula."

"Thank you." She bows to you before leaving.

Once she's left, Starfall drops out of the sky, landing next to you.

"Looks like I'll be out of a job soon." She smirks.

"Were you watching us?" You wonder. You hadn't noticed at all.

"I was about to jump in, but thought I'd let you handle it." And then, she winks at Tia as she casually picks up the two criminals. "Also, good luck. I'll be rooting for you."

"...For what?" She asks back.

"For your bet, what else? Come on, give me a hand. We'll tie these dudes up and leave them outside the town guard's office."

You roll your eyes. "...Just bring them in. Samiel KNOWS you. We're working together."

"I'm not going to walk plainly into a room full of strangers." She shudders. "Come on, give me a hand."
