Recently: You've been training hard at Vernon's cabin in the jungle. You're almost ready. Raistlin is mega-evolving!

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

Raistlin pulses and glows. You keep your eyes closes and don’t worry about it. You’re feeling so peaceful. There’s no pounding of self-hate. Even when you come to peace with your darker side, it’s still always there. It’s toxic by nature, isn’t it? It’s relaxing a cramp that’s been there so long you forgot about it.

You feel Raistlin. He’s achieved mega-evolution. It takes a heavy toll on your physical and mental energy, but he’s there.

You honestly weren’t trying for it this time. You were just learning to be at peace with your own mind.

Raistlin is mentally reaching out. He’s happy he has this new bond with you.

In that connection though, you feel Dark Kat crawling back.

But, do you really want her back?

>Sequester her in a mental cage.
>Leave her out to dry in the mental ether.

I don't know, it seems like the embodiment of all our negative emotions and self-loathing might be an unhealthy influence on us. Could prevent us from syncing with Raistlin again.
>>
>>42588512
Better us than him.
And we've improved our relationship with her lately!
>>
>>42588545
Well yeah but we might not need to give her free reign. Like thinking depression is a part of your personality and embracing it actually isn't that great a strategy for mental health?
>>
>>42588338
Turkeys a best. Fak u.
>>
You lower the gates, as it were, and accept her back in with open arms. You wouldn't be whole without her.

Ahh, that old familiar pain in your ass. At least it feels familiar.

Oh man, you are tired. You look to Raistlin. He’s starting to nod off, even in his new form. You guess that makes sense. He’s always been a napper.

You let him sleep and force your feet to take you to bed. You’re asleep almost as soon as your face meets the pillow.

“Thanks,” a familiar face says in your dreams. “It’s cold out there.”

You and her enjoy a quiet sleep. She casts a small shadow over some of your pleasant dreams, but without that shadow, your light would be meaningless.

Training continues, day after day. The next thing you’re focused on is Destiny. You've been doing exercises with her so she can change her ability at will, and she’s been doing great. She seems to be able to switch abilities very well. Vernon’s Poliwrath is a good teacher.

You have plenty of time to learn a move a Kingdra can’t normally learn. But with so many choices, what will you pick?

[Throw some suggestions out and we’ll vote]

Secret sword would be great.

Or Trunks move.

Speaking of Psychic, Heart Swap could be an excellent out to any stat changing shenanigans of the opponent.

Are we allowed to select legendary signatures? Its only phione, but still...
>>
Can we learn fire type moves by doing this training?
>>
>>42589165
[Regular signatures yes, but legendary signatures would take way too much time unless you somehow had the secret to them or a tutor]
>>
>>42589030

That could be interesting if we can use it as much as we want
Destiny could learn ever attack our other Pokemon know and more from opponents
>>
>>42589187
[Anything other than a legendary signature and a few select moves. If Destiny has a similar move, it also makes training easier.]

>>42589212
[Sketch only works once, but you could use that to learn a legendary's move]
>>
How about Hydro Cannon?
With her maneuverability Destiny should be able to dodge any attacks while recharging from it
>>
>>42588763
Overheat. With our speed we could use it to take out an enemy's pokemon before switching out. Noody would expect us to have it either.
>>
Extreme Speed should be easy to learn with all her movement training but that might be a bit lackluster for a special move
>>
What is the alternate ability that we are teaching Destiny to swap between?

If its contrary or something, that makes a difference on what move we should try.
>>
>>42589187
Hydro pulse or Water Cannon

Both heavy hitters with Stab
>>

Yeah, heavy-hitting STAB moves are generally a good idea to learn. Can't really go wrong!

Hydro cannon is to finish them off.

Shell smash you use at the beginnig and then have to be supersquishy through the whole fight. So any 100% accuracy moves will destroy her.
>>

>>42589787
They're both good but still I'm concerned that any move with 100% accuracy will annihilate her.

>>
>>42589847
Still a low chance even with her increased evasion.
>>
>>42589843
Destiny would out speed absolutely everything after a shell smash, especially if we set up rain dance beforehand.
>>
[Seems slightly contentious. Let's do a quote only vote. One other option is to forgo the extra dodging and crit training, and get most of the way for both moves. The catch is that they won't be reliable until you do some training which will have to take place between league matches.]

You work on Shell Smash with Destiny. She takes to it well. It will leave her vulnerable when it comes to defenses, but you figure it’s a good idea with her ability to dodge. You’ll work on the dodging and critical hit training with her for the rest of your time. She still bubbles in excitement at every success.

Your focus turns to Nibbles.

Nibbles is an odd one. He’s grown fast, but he still has that same slight clumsiness and apparent immunity to pain you see it young humans and some Pokemon. He plows through small rocks and obstacles on his way to attack whatever dummy target you point him too. It’s a very stompy way to run.

He’s getting some strong callousses, but it’s affecting his speed and attack time. Still, it’s a pretty intimidating sight.

>Encourage it. There will be times where he needs to plow through obstacles on the battlefield (Resistance to battlefield hazards, but lower overall speed)
>Teach him to be more agile and aware of obstacles on the battlefield
>Let him do what he wants. If he keeps it up, it’s fine. If he grows out of it, it’s fine.

You encourage Nibbles to keep up his running. He could definitely be faster, but he’s able to ignore minor obstacles and mitigate bigger ones. The way be busts through things reminds you of a movie monster, but in an endearing way. He’s your monster and friend, and he’s awesome!

You take a break and relax with Robin and Vernon. Her Pokemon were just running drills, but now they’re taking a well deserved breather and you let yours break as well.
“You kids today,” he says. “Always takin’ breaks.”

“Says the old man who sits and watches while shouting instructions from the sidelines,” you jab at him. “Besides, this is our first break of the day.”

He chuckles and tosses you and Robin a sandwich. “Excuses, excuses.”

“We’re being watched,” Robin says in a surprisingly calm voice. “I can see the heat signature, mostly. It’s covered in vines and leaves.” She doesn't think it's a threat, just a curiosity.

The human that was disguised as a Tangrowth!

Before you can say anything, Vernon speaks. “Leave it alone. It’s harmless. Just another denizen of the jungle.”

You look him in the eyes. He knows about it. He clearly doesn't look interested on expanding on this, though. He pushes himself up with his cane.

“Come on, lazy bums. Back to training.”

>>
>>42590953
[Oh yeah! I've see that in the catalog and have it on my list to check out. Other QMs who know what they're doing can probably give better advice that me, but for Pokemon specifically I'd just generally recommend always having reference websites and material on hand. The table top also has a few great things like sorting Pokemon by environment that helps for encounters.

Pokemon is a vast world full of not just those crazy critters, but psychics and aura stuff and legends and technology. I love it because you can do so much. Just look at the different takes on things in the anime, manga, games, etc.

Some Pokemon are smart, some more animalistic. So you can have some lead others or form a hybrid between a society and animal kingdom.

Do you have an archive link I can quickly save?]

You get Robin to point to the right bush and give it a wave. Robin laughs as the bush jerks in surprise.

Wow, it got a lot closer than you expected. It quickly scurries off. You tell Robin and Vernon about your encounter.

“People that come out here don’t want to be found,” he tells you. “I like to think our mystery bush person and I have an understanding. I trade food and small supplies. They keep the more bothersome elements away.”

You scan the bushes. “So you don’t know who that is?”

He waves his cane at you. “Of course I do. Whoever they are, they’re my neighbor. And the best kind. The kind that doesn’t make any noise and doesn’t bother me!”

You hear a distant, angry roar.

“Unlike that damned Garchomp,” he grumbles. “Something’s riled that bastard up good.” He gives you an accusatory look.

Training continues on, long day after long day.

You notice Aria seems to be struggling. She goes between trying too hard on practicing moves to losing motivation and half-assing it. She’s not learning and barely improving. You thought that losing to Devon would give her a needed humbling, but it seems like she’s taken it harder than you expected.

She seems very self-conscious in front of the others.

“Come on,” you tell her. “I need your help.”

She turns her head. What could you need her help for?

There’s that roar again. Garchomp is frustrated.

“There’s a Pokemon out there that needs cheering up. It’s something only you can do.”

She smiles just a little, but looks pretty sold on the idea.

To tell the truth, trying to cheer it up is only one of your plans. It might be too confrontational to be reasoned with.

You and Aria make your way to the cave. It’s not far. You’ll be back by sundown. It is however, very uphill and very covered in trees. After that bush person snuck so close, you’re a little paranoid about anything less friendly doing the same.

“Losing isn't so bad,” you tell her. “I've done it a lot.”

She looks at you. It’s not the same. How would you feel about getting your pockets picked by an amateur little kid.

“Is that how you see it?”

She shies away from that. She’s thinking it a bit, but not willing to say it.

Victory isn't just a result, it's the culmination of everything that went into the match. If you work your ass off and leave it all on the field, there's nothing wrong with defeat- but we both know that rarely happens. people don't rise to the occasion, they fall to the level of their training.

“I’d be impressed with the kid,” you pat her on the back. “Then ‘d go and take it back with interest to show him who’s best.”

She harumphs. You’re just saying that.

“I am not. And besides, Levi works really hard to be as strong as she is. Can you imagine life as a Magikarp?”

She mulls that over. It doesn’t sound easy.

“Victory isn't just a result, it's the culmination of everything that went into the match. If you work your ass off and leave it all on the field, there's nothing wrong with defeat- but we both know that rarely happens. People don't rise to the occasion, they fall to the level of their training.”

You leave her to think that over and keep moving up what can only be called the path by someone feeling very generous.

She floats along, humming a depressing version of Relic Song.

>Hum along, but make it upbeat.
>Hum along, leave it depressed. Make it a cathartic experience.
>Shhh, we could get ambushed up here.
>Stay here and make noise. Let Garchomp come to you.
>Something else.

>Hum along, but make it upbeat

Just a little upbeat though. Let Aria choose to bring herself up to match, or keep being depressed.

>Stay here and make noise. Let Garchomp come to you.

Our relationship with Garchomp is based on Supreme Overconfidence, why stop now?

it was meant to be something like "what are you writing" but it came too late

She delivers a chord. You counter with the next one, but quickly and perky.

She rolls her eyes and sighs, delivering the next chord sulkingly, like a teenager.
You take out your flute and follow the next part. You intentionally flub the very last note and get a giggle out of Aria.

She covers her mouth. She didn’t mean to do that. She gives you an exaggerated sad version, then fakes fainting in your arms.

You tickle under her ribs and she laughs uproariously. Some of her jerking and kicks nearly knock you over. There’s a lot of restraint going into not hurting you.

“Grrrr,” a deep, menacing growling interrupts.

“About time,” you tell him. You’ve been making enough noise.

You’re not exactly sure about the best approach. THe main goal is to get him to stop howling so people can get some sleep tonight. He looks pretty mad. Like he’s been fuming over the best comebacks in the shower the day after getting humiliated.

He turns around and slices a bolder in two, then growls back at you. He won’t be thrown off by your confident attitude so easily this time.

>Sure he will. Approach him and give him a peck on the cheek. Show him you’re not afraid
>Ignore him. Keep horsing around with Aria
>Better not take a chance. Keep Aria in front
>”So, want that fight?”

Kat the Dragon Layer

It means we don't hear from Gobble for another half hour
>>
You hold your hands behind your back and saunter over to him. He snaps his jaw at you!

There’s a warm trickle of blood on your face before the pain sets in. It doesn’t feel deep, but it might leave a mark. You don’t flinch. It’s more because you’re shocked than anything. You give him a kiss on the cheek anyway, then saunter back as slowly as you dare.

“So, still want that fight?” You're relieved not to hear a shake in your own voice. That was a warning. He easily could have done a lot worse.

There’s a rush of wind behind you. You turn around, careful not to show fear.

Garchomp’s quick dash at you was cut short by Aria standing in the way. She holds her hand out in front of him.

The bushes rustle. You look and see two more Garchomp peering out, growling. The one in front makes a guttural noise and they back away.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

He grins wickedly. He’s going to prove to his gang that he won’t tolerate being disrespected on his turf. He’s the king of this place.

Your eyes dart to the bushes. What will they do if you lose? How will they react if you win?

>Start an honorable fight with the lead Garchomp. 1v1.

You wipe your cheek with the back of your hand, then hold your arms out wide. “You were planning to fight me yourself, right? I’d hate to think you’d resort to...cowardly tactics.”

He roars and stops around in a semi-circle, setting himself back several paces from Aria. He screams out into the bushes, letting anyone watching that he’s not afraid. You hear more Pokemon respond. There’s more than just Garchomp’s watching. Pokemon gather in the tall trees and in any clearings they can get a good view from. He’s working the crowd.

This feels like a cage match.

No, it feels like the league. Except the rules seem a lot looser. It doesn’t feel like a loss is just a small setback out here.

[That’s it for tonight. Thanks for coming everyone!

Unfortunately I can’t run tomorrow and probably not Sunday or Monday. Tuesday or Wednesday are the likely next thread]

Though we should probably stick with Aria form to start out with as she has a lot of Special moves
