When we last left Mileena, she was sent by her father King Jerrod to accompany Kitana and Jade into the Netherrealm to follow a lead on the missing sorcerer, the demon Quan Chi.

In his fortress, however, all they found were three new sorcerers who appeared similar to him in appearance and power, who now challenge them. What could it mean?

"Explain yourselves!" Kitana demands. "Where is Quan Chi?"

"He is here," the hooded one laughs. "He was given a great gift by our lord."

"Though not as great as our own," the one with the elaborate black headdress adds.

You look around at the three of them closing in from all sides. They each appear to be preparing different spells. This could be difficult. When you fought the two oni on the side of the fiery mountain, they were at least only two against you three. Now, however, the odds are more even.

Or at least, they were. From behind each appear minions of the Brotherhood of Shadow; assassins, warriors and dark priests.

"You will regret this action," Kitana warns them, taking out her steel fans. "You have already transgressed into the realm of Edenia. We will show you now mercy."

You take out your sai blades; Jade does the same with her bo staff.

"We fear you not, little princess," the one in the shirt replies. "But you are our house guest, and it is time we show you some hospitality, curtesy of the Brotherhood of Shadow."

All three of them hold out their arms, each glowing a different color; green, blue and orange. Their minions rush in first as they prepare their spells.

>How's it going Damashi?

I'm well, thank you. Had to take a break on Friday but I'm back with part 2.

>Attack Zarr

You leap over the heads of two of the minions, running up the stone steps to the second level of the large arcane study, where the summoner stands, surrounded by an orange aura.

"I am Zarr Chi," he says, waving his hands before him and conjuring forth a pair of demonic bats, each the size of your head. "And you will fall before the power of my minions!"

He sends them both to attack you. They screech and soar at you, flapping their thin wings and baring large, dripping fangs.

You run forwards and plan to teleport, but suddenly a portal opens up beneath you, causing you to fall through! A second portal opens up above Zarr, allowing him to send his bats to slash at you as you fall. The warlock across the room created this portal!

The sorcerer casts a rune of weakness upon the ground beneath Jade and Kitana, slowing their reaction time and allowing the minions to get an edge.

You suddenly realize that these three quasi-Chi have all the powers of Quan Chi when together, and can simultaneously use them all at once!

Zarr's bats fly back down at you; you roll to the side and fall to the floor below, landing deftly on your feet. Two of the Brotherhood minions, not quite wraiths but humans sent to the Netherrealm who have given over to the worship of Shinnok, turn and see you. They charge, each wielding an axe!

You see the mooks coming and immediately roll towards them, tripping them both as you barrel through their legs! They hit the ground and with a sai in each hand you stab them both in the stomach and cut upwards, bisecting their abdomens.

You then teleport behind the summoner before his bats can swoop down at you and kick him in the back of the head. You land behind him and flip onto his back, lifting your veil as you do, allowing you to give into your ravenous side and bite him in the neck!

Zarr shouts in pain as you chomp down on him, sinking your many sharp teeth into his flesh. Nak, the Warlock, summons a portal beneath Torn, who appears behind you and tries to slash you with his sword.

You leap off of the summoner, who stumbles forward and holds his bleeding neck as the sorcerer casts a spell of strength upon himself before charging at you and attempting to attack you with his sword again. The summoner appears, for the moment, to be out of the fight; his bats dispel due to his temporary inability to maintain control over their summons.

He brings up a foot and kicks you both in the stomach, forcing you to flip backwards before he can chop at your head.

>>42594665

Deciding to try and use his strength in a different way, when he charges at you next, you instead move forward and use his momentum against him and smash him into the nearby stone wall, breaking some of the gothic architecture. He hits his head and curses, swinging his sword at you, but you are already gone.

You attempt to move in and stab him in the kidneys with your sai, but he instead conjures a bit of blue flames that leap into the air, creating a flash of light that stuns you for a moment. He leaps through the blue fire and kicks you off of the balcony to the lower level before jumping down after you.

Dodging the skulls, you roll to the side and leap off the balcony, heading back towards Torn. He struggles to pull his sword out of the ground but cannot before you kick him away.

Nearby, Jade and Kitana continue to capably hold off the minions. Jade flips back with her staff and uses it to hit one of them on the skull while Kitana splays out her fans in an elaborate flourish that summons a cyclone of wind that raises them two of them off of the ground, allowing her to roundhouse them both out one of the open windows and into the river of lava below. Jade uses her tri-bladed boomerang to cut the head off of another.

Torn rolls aside but a portal opens up beneath him, allowing him to escape near Nak. You are about to pursue him when Zarr emerges from the pool of blood, his wounds healed. His eyes burn orange with his magic as he raises his hands and performs his most powerful summoning spell.

A great portal of fire opens behind him and a burning hand emerges, followed by the rest of its large body. It is easily the size of a Tormentor, but its arms and legs are more like solidified magma, burning just beneath the blackened crust. It roars; its throat and eyes are fire. Its head is framed by a pair of massive goring horns.

The orochi hellbeast steps forth and knocks aside several of the Brotherhood minions as it focuses on you, Jade and Kitana as Zarr laughs, teleported away by Nak to the upper balcony.

You attempt to leap onto its leg and scale up its back, but the orochi hellbeast turns and punches you off with one arm. The Brothers Chi begin to cast their spells; they buff the Orochi Hellbeast, create a portal underneath Jade and Kitana to allow them to drop in front of the monster so it may attack them and the summoner continues to channel his power into the hellbeast, sustaining it.

You get up and shake your head as your fellow edenians leap away from its wide, sweeping attacks. It marches forward, leaving burning hoofprints in its wake.

You look up at the balcony at all three of the demon wizards and decide to focus on the summoner. You teleport up onto the balcony and attempt to attack him from behind, but the other two anticipate this and both blast you with magic spells, nearly knocking you out of the window. You teleport in front of them but Zarr is prepared again; he summons a burst of hellfire in front of him. You teleport behind him, between the other two, and manage to jam a sai in his chest.

The orochi hellbeast roars, its summoning slightly weaker than before. Kitana throws her fans at the beast's neck and Jade attacks its face with her staff.

The other two sorcerers attempt to grab you, but you push forward and go over the side of the balcony while holding onto Zarr and teleport away. He hits the ground and you appear near him, ready to attack.

The orochi hellbeast turns and kicks a leg near you, forcing you to roll away. Zarr gets up to his feet and starts limping towards Shao Kahn's hammer.

Gritting your sharp fangs, you throw a sai between the hellbeast's legs and hit Zarr in the back of the thigh. He lets go of the hammer and falls to one knee, allowing you to teleport away--just as the hellbeast was going to slam a hand down upon you. You land near Zarr and stab him in the neck with your sai, right where you bit him earlier--the flesh there is more tender.

You reach the hammer and pick it up. It is extremely heavy, but you were made to be Shao Kahn's daughter--you can wield his hammer.

You heft the hammer up and bring it down on the balcony's supporting stone beam, smashing it to pieces. You roar as you bring it down on another, causing the balcony--and the two demon casters upon it--tumbling down. All three demons end up in a pile.

Nearby, Kitana and Jade work a combination attack. Kitana kicks the hellbeast in the chest, which is followed by a pole vault kick from Jade which forces it back even further. Kitana then propels herself forward with her wind powers and pushes the monster up against the edge of the floating fortress.

Both Kitana and Jade leap up into the air and dropkick the monster, knocking it off the cliff.

You approach the three sorcerers and hold up the hammer, growling.

They begin to chuckle. "Quan Chi is no more," Torn says.

"Our lord and master, the all-powerful Shinnok, rewarded his failures with death! And as for his power, he split it amongst ourselves!"

Kitana and Jade look at each other. "Quan Chi is no more..."

Nak looks at you. "It is curious that they allowed you to come along, don't you think?"

You narrow your eyes. Torn smiles. "The wolf among sheep..."

"Silence!" Kitana orders them. "You will tell us everything you know about where the orb and ship that were stolen from Edenia!"

Yeah, just that we'd be taking it back to Edenia and I don't want poor Jermac or Sindel having some sort of relapse.
I'd also like to point out that sparing these three may be worthwhile, freeing, not so much.
Still if they insist on reminding us of the whole "wolf among sheep" deal, they'd be wise to avoid our jaws.
Also that wolves get -real- pissed off about things screwing with their family, sheep or otherwise.
>>
>>42597478
In case the Nethership isn't here, and we don't have any means to transport lot or heavy items, then I'll be satisfied if we throw it into the river of lava.

"No," you say, holding your sais closer to Zarr's throat. "And you'd best not talk about me any more, unless you want this wolf to show you her fangs."

"Prove that you have the orb," Kitana says, "and the nethership."

Torn shakes his head. "The nethership is gone. Taken by the new enforcer of the Brotherhood of Shadow; Noob Saibot."

"Where," Kitana demands.

"We'll gladly tell you and give the orb," Nak begins.

"Enough! Prove your tongue is not spreading lies or I will cut it out," Jade threatens.

Torn moves to stand up. They allow this, and Kitana follows him across the room. "We have a great many things from Quan Chi's personal collection that are now ours by birthright," Torn says. He approaches a large chest and takes a burning iron torchholder off of it, placing it on a nearby table. He opens the chest up. "This, however, is new."

Kitana looks inside and sees the orb. She reaches for it.

Suddenly, a howl is heard throughout the room! A tarkatan, lean and with fiery eyes, jumps down from the second balcony to attack Jade!

She leaps aside, allowing Nak to create a portal beneath him and escape. Torn takes advantage of Kitana's distracted state, grabs the orb from the chest and runs towards the exit to the lair.

You are about to leave when a second tarkatan jumps down in front of you; Baraka. He turns to you and you see that he is stapled together with massive metal clamps on his chest and head from being sliced in half by Kung Lao's razor-bladed hat.

"Mileena!" Baraka exclaims. He turns towards the other tarkatan and is about to say something when you kick him in the back of the head. He looks at you with wide, blazing eyes.

"I am no friend of yours," you say to him, taking out your sai.

Kitana takes off in pursuit of Torn and the orb while Zarr slips off into a corner near Shao Kahn's hammer. Jade begins to battle the second tarkatan.

"Then you will die!" Baraka shouts, drawing his arm blades.

Your eyes widen as he flies at you. He moves his blades aside and, instead of impaling you, he tackles you. His arm blades dig into the wall alongside you and he pins you to the wall.

"You know you what you were meant to be, Mileena," he says to you, his breath smelling like death. You know your mouth looks like his, but you cannot bare to look at it. "Join me, Mileena. Together you and I could be perfect. I have seen it, Mileena... The tarkatan with me is our son!"

"You lie!" you shout, bringing up a leg and kicking him back.

>>42598048

You bring up the wrath hammer and swing it at him, but he dodges it. "You and I are meant to be!" he shouts.

>>42598049

"Not for all the power in the Netherealm! I am nothing like you!"

You teleport above him and bring the hammer down on his back, knocking him to the ground and cracking the balcony underneath him. He groans in pain when you are suddenly tackled by the thin tarkatan he came with.

>>42598055

He forces you to look him in the eyes. "Mother," he says. His face has tarkatan-like features, but everything else about him... His mouth is smaller, and his head is much smoother. His ears are not as pronounced as a normal tarkatans, and his eyes blaze orange, and you cannot deny that they look just like your own.

"Mother! It's me, Mog! Your son!"

"You lie!" you shout, throwing him off. He gets up, his arm blades long a thing, sleek almost.

"I have your power and fathers, too! Why is he dead?! Why do you fight with Kitana at your side?! You are confused!"

"I am not the confused one; you are!" you say, taking out your sai. "I have never seen you before in my life!"

He honestly looks taken aback by your words, and hurt, like a small child who was scolded by... his mother. "I AM YOUR SON!" he shouts. "I WILL SHOW YOU! I WILL SHOW YOU I AM! I WILL BRING YOU YOUR HATED SISTER'S HEAD!"

He jumps down and chases after Kitana, running down the hall she went down.

You run over and leap off the balcony. As you land, you see Zarr being whisked away by one of Nak's green portals--that's two of them gotten away. You and Jade both take up pursuit of the Kitana, the final Chi and your apparent son, though you still refuse to believe it to be so.

You and Jade run down the hall and find yourselves outside of the floating palace, running down a stone bridge connecting one large spire of stone to another. Torn Chi is running with the Orb in hand, Kitana hot on his heels, and Mog right behind her.

The young tarkatan curls into a ball and rolls forward, tripping Kitana--just like one of your signature abilities. You push the thought from your mind as the tarkatan springs up, drawing out his thin arm blades to attack Kitana. Torn Chi is getting away.

"I will handle the sorcerer--you handle the tarkatan!" Jade says, and you nod in agreement. You teleport right in front of Mog, stunning him a bit, as Jade pole vaults over all three of you and chases after Torn.

"Mother! Stand aside! I will kill Kitana for you and break the spell you are under!"

You look at him and an idea comes to mind; a wild idea. You stomp your foot on the ground. "MOG! I order you to stop, RIGHT NOW!"

He looks confused; he's clearly lost some of his bluster.

"You will stop this game and go home, right this instant, or... 'mommy' will be VERY upset!"

Kitana looks at you like you're crazy, but Mog starts to step back in a submissive posture.

"But... Daddy Baraka... he's dead, isn't he? What's going on, mommy?"

You take advantage of the moment and push him aside. You know for a fact that he isn't your son, so regardless of his confusion, what matters is the orb.

You and Kitana run past him and he watches you go, hurt and confused. With your sister by your side, you catch up to Jade and Torn, who are battling atop a spire of black rock.

As you make your way upwards, the other two Chi sorcerers appear, and all three of them blast Jade backwards with a spell, but then like a puppet they compel her to walk towards them. You have seen Quan Chi perform this spell in the past to control other people.

You and Kitana both reach the top, only to find Torn holding the crystal ball over one side of the cliff while Zarr holds a compelled Jade over the other side. You and her both realize what is about to happen, but before either of you can react, they both let go.

From both sides of the cliff, Jade and the crystal ball fall towards the hellish fires below. At that moment, Nak creates a portal behind them and they prepare to leave, running towards it.

In this moment, Kitana makes her decision--she jumps to save her friend Jade, leaping off the side of the cliff towards her.

You realize that you need to make a decision as well.

In this moment, you make your choice.

You run straight to the edge and leap off headfirst, diving towards Kitana and Jade. Your sister reaches her friend and grabs ahold of her hand. Your sai appears in your right hand as you reach out and grab Kitana's foot while you jam your enchanted weapon into the side of the pillar, embedding it into the stone and stopping your descent in an instant.

Pain shoots through your arm as you hold onto Kitana, who holds onto Jade. "Kitana!" Jade shouts; across the way, she can see the falling orb. A portal opens up beneath it before it can fall into the lava; the sorcerers have it once more. Of course they wouldn't let such an item go to waste.

You grunt as you slowly lift Kitana upwards. Jade extends her staff and hooks it onto a nearby rock, swinging herself to freedom and safety. You continue to pull Kitana up to your level, and with Jade's help, she gets a handhold on a rock and climbs up alongside you.

Kitana looks you in the eyes as she gets up to you, her gaze wide and strange; it is as though she is looking at you completely differently for the first time. Within her eyes you find no suspicion, no hatred, no hint of disgust.

She's looking at you like a sister.

Slowly, she reaches up and places an arm around you, pulling you in for a hug. She rests her forehead against yours and closes her eyes as the ambient noise of the Netherrealm around you fades away as you return your sister's hug.

Kitana opens her eyes and you catch the smallest glimpse of a tear welling up in them, and what she says shakes you to your core and gives you more fulfilment and joy than any murderous impulse or savage cruelty you ever entertained: "Thank you... my sister." With those words, you realize that you've found what you've been missing, what Jerrod allowed you to find: true family.

You embrace her even more tightly as Jade looks on with a smile on her face.

Suddenly, a cry from above breaks your moment and causes you three to look up to see Mog. His eyes blaze orange and he roars in absolute fury.

"YOU ARE NOT MILEENA!" he shouts down at you. "YOU ARE NOT MILEENA! YOU ARE NOT!"

His arm blades emerge and to your amazement, he teleports in a burst of orange energy, appearing in front of you and grabbing you by the shoulders. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE REAL MILEENA!?" he shouts, spittle flying from his lips as he tries to bite at you with his sharpened teeth.

Both Kitana and Jade attempt to attack him, but he puts both feet on the wall and kicks off, pulling you down with him. You both begin to plummet towards the lava below!

"I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU!" he screams over and over as he tries to bite your neck; you manage to hold him at bay as you summon both sai blades into your hands.

As you both fall, you bring up a sai and jam it into his open mouth, stabbing his throat and tongue. His eyes go wide as you stare into them.

Mog, however, continues to fall, gurgling incoherent rage right up until he splashes into the lava and burns to death, screaming at the top of his lungs as he vanishes beneath the burning surface.

You breathe easier as you begin to climb back up. At the top, Jade swings her bo staff down into reaching distance and you grab onto it, trusting her to pull you back up. She does, and both she and Kitana help you climb up over the edge and onto flat ground.

You stand and look at Kitana. "Mileena..." she begins, "I... I don't know what to say. What you did was... I never would have thought that you would try to potentially sacrifice yourself just for a chance to save Jade or I."

Suddenly, you feel a warm body hug you from behind as Jade wraps her arms around you. "I have not thanked you yet, Mileena, so allow me to do so." She squeezes you a bit more tightly. Kitana then joins in the hug as well.

The longer we stay in the Netherrealm, the more at risk we are of being detected. We can leave, but we have to be sure that there is nothing more that can be done before we do."

"We could try to intercept the sorcerers," Jade suggests.

"There's no way we could attack Shinnok's Spire," Kitana says. "Even for us. He has legion within his dark capital."

Jade looks up at Quan Chi's palace. "Then I suggest seeing what we can find within here is our next best option."

"Perhaps," Kitana nods. She looks at you. "What say you, Mileena?"

You advocate raiding the lair; after a moment, Kitana agrees.

Heading back inside the lair, you look around for Baraka but find no trace of him, other than where you broke the floor with him when you hit him with the Wrath Hammer. Disappointing... You had hoped to interrogate him for clues as to the true identity of that tarkatan hybrid who claimed to be your son.

You know that isn't possible... But you also remember Jerrod's words: that the Netherrealm would try to trick you, to play with your mind. You could just as easily pass your "son" off as being a phantom of the Netherrealm as soon as you could accept him being legitimate.

The three of you split up around the main chamber, keeping sight of each other, as you explore and search for anything useful. You find a mirror on a desk, and below it, your mother Sindel's hair brush. Was it stolen from her chambers along with the orb?

You pass by books, jars of fetid corpses and organs, suits of armor and displays of treasures from across realms and time, but then you find something else; a green glowing gem that uncannily resembles the one worn by Ermac. Jerrod wears it still; apparently, it brings stability to the souls within the mummy-like body.

You call Kitana over and ask for her opinion on the gem. She picks it up and inspects it. "I do not like it," she says. "This is a gem which houses souls... It may make our father's situation worse."

"What if the excess souls within Ermac's body could be placed into it?" Jade asks as she approaches. "Perhaps we could actually lesson the burden he bears daily."

"Perhaps... but outside of mother, we know few other spellcasters."

You think for a moment. With Quan Chi split into three new demons and Shang Tsung dead, that leaves few who come to mind...

"Perhaps someone in Outworld?" Jade offers.

Or... perhaps the sphinx girl, Turana. She is a spellcaster. You remember that she possessed the collected works of Shang Tsung... She is in Earthrealm, isn't she?

Kitana still seems against taking the gem, but is considering Jade's words.

Kitana looks at the wrath hammer, distasteful of Shao Kahn's association with it. You look at it as well, wondering if it should be kept with the enemy in their palace, or, perhaps, if it should be destroyed.

My main concern with the Wrath Hammer is the lava being able to destroy it or what that would even mean metaphysically.
Mileena keeping it to safeguard makes a certain degree of sense. From most angles even, she can use it, but it'd serve as a reminder of her past and what not to go back to, but the past informs who we are now.

You approach the hammer and run your hand along its handle. Kitana watches as you heft it up and carry it towards the edge of the palace.

You look at it and inspect it once more. This was the hammer of Shao Kahn. With it, he conquered realms and destroyed entire civilizations. He laid waste to all in his path.

You look at it one final time before dropping it. The hammer falls and splashes into the lava below, where it vanishes beneath the burning surface and is gone forever.

"Ashes to ashes," you mutter as you spit down into the river of lava. Just as Shao Kahn disowned you before his death at the hands of Kaito, you disown any attachment to the former emperor.

Kitana watches and nods approvingly. You walk back to them and gather whatever else you can. Kitana looks at you and asks, "Is there anything else?"

You shake your head. "No. The sooner I can wash myself of this Netherrealm stench, the better."

Kitana nods and she and Jade proceed to the center of the room. She gets into a kneeling position along with her friend and you join them, all three of you sitting in a circle. The spell that sent you here is cast in two parts; the first half being passage to your destination and the second half is your return. Kitana speaks the words taught to her by Sindel to complete the circle and close the spell, the end result of which is you being transported back to Edenia. A white light begins to circle around you three which grows, encompassing you all in a great orb of light which flashes away, carrying you with it across the realms.

When the great rushing wind stops, you are once more in the throne room of the royal palace in Edenia. Jerrod and Sindel stand up from their thrones and rush down the steps to greet you. The three of you stand up and look to them as they approach and embrace you. "What happened?" Jerrod asks. "Were you successful in your mission?"

"No," Kitana says somberly. "We learned a number of unfortunate facts."

As you explain the events of your journey into hell, they listen intently as you lay out every detail. Though they are upset that the orb and ship are gone, this information could potentially be of great value.

"The wraith, Noob Saibot, means to attack Earthrealm next. The Lin Kuei are his target."

"The Earthrealmers have already left for Outworld, travelling with Liu Kang and the others," Sindel explains. "We will not be able to warn them in time."

"Perhaps we could travel to the Lin Kuei temple and warn them," Jade suggests. "But the attack may be already underway."
>>
>>42620974

Jerrod closes his eyes as he thinks. He turns his back to you all and puts a hand to his head; you know that many voices are speaking to him in his mind, shouting at him their ideas and opinions on the situation.

You place a hand on his shoulder. "Father?"

He looks at you. "Yes... Yes. We must attempt to intercept the wraith who came into our palace, he is our next best lead. If we could capture him, that would be ideal... but we must also attempt to aid our allies in Earthrealm."

As they discuss their next move, you consider your options. You could go with Kitana and Jade to the Lin Kuei temples... But perhaps, you could instead go to Outworld to intercept the Earthrealmers and warn them of the attack, then accompany them to Earthrealm. From there, you could go with them to Outworld... Or, perhaps, you could track down the sphinx, Turana, to secure her help. Her magic may be of great use to the Edenian court, as it was during the time when Kitana was the temporary Kahnum of Outworld and the sphinx was her court wizard.

You confer with Kitana over what you believe should be done. You bring up Turana; she is surprised that you do so. She reveals that she attempted, on no less than several occasions, to use the orb to communicate with Turana, but as the magic relies on the receiving party being a willing participant, she was unable to speak to her. Turana refused to talk every single time, even to her.

"Then you need to force her to," you tell Kitana. "Meet her face to face, in Earthrealm."

"It is possible that Liu Kang's allies may know where she is..." she says. "If only she would have allowed me to speak to her... I would have brought her to Edenia months ago."

"Then Jade and I should go to the Lin Kuei," you suggest. Jade nods and then speaks.

"I know a warrior among them; Smoke. During the tournament that Shao Kahn held in Outworld, I met him in the Living Forest while we were both spying. We fought, but were unable to best each other. We later fought as allies during the invasion of Earthrealm."

Sindel nods. "Very well, the king and I will send you both to intercept the wraith. But if we are too late, attempt to steal the Nethership back from him. If nothing else, we may be able to get it back."

You and Jade nod. Kitana approaches you and places a hand on your shoulder. "Be careful, both of you," she says, looking at Jade as well.

Sindel and Jerrod are surprised at her action; Jerrod seems pleased.

"So be it," Jerrod says. "Are you prepared to leave now?"

You look at Kitana and Jade as the green-clad edenian prepares for transport. You take out Sindel's hair brush and hand it to her, telling her that it was stolen from her quarters. Sindel thanks you, somewhat curious as to why they would have ever taken that. Especially Quan Chi, of all people, who has no hair.

>>42622927

You'll hold onto the gem for now; you still aren't fully sure if it will do him any good and until you do, you'll keep it safe.

You and Jade both stand near each other as Sindel and Jerrod prepare to send you to Arctika. They speak the words and use the still-prepared runes upon the floor.

As before, a great white light circles around you both. Kitana calls out, "Good luck! I will be with you as soon as I am able!"

You and Jade both close your eyes to shield yourselves from the light as you are teleported away. When the light ceases, you are both hit by a freezing blast of wind, an extremely stark contrast to the pleasant edenian climate.

You both turn and adjust your eyes to the frozen landscape. Jade says that you both are not very far from the Lin Kuei temple. Though you have never been here before, Jade seems to know the way.

"Have you travelled this land before?" you ask as she leads one, moving alongside a frozen river.

"I was sent here by the king and queen two months ago, after the invasion, to ensure that we still counted the Lin Kuei among our allies. I offered to train some of their warriors, but I could not stay for long."

You and her make your way around a bend of snow, and up ahead you begin to see the outline of a grand, most assuredly ancient structure on the other side of a cavern of ice.

The ice beast leaps down and lands in the snow, making deep impacts with its large feet. The yeti-like beast, with great boney spikes protruding from its back, lets loose another roar before charging in!

"This temple is strange," you say. "Familiar, almost..."

"It is edenian in nature, that is why," Jade explains. "I know not for who it was built or why it was erected here, but there is no mistaking it. I was stricken by the same curiosity when I first came here."

You both round a corner and come face-to-face with several wraiths with black skin and glowing eyes, each wearing Lin Kuei outfits corrupted into Netherrealm form. They all turn and you see that they have a prospective member of the Lin Kuei at their mercy. As you both come to a stop, the one holding his neck snaps it cleanly and drops the body to the floor.

"Destroy them," one says.

"No, subdue," another replies in a similar ghostly voice.

"Our master will reward us," another says.

"To hell with your master, and to hell with you!"

"Actually, hell is where our master is fr--"

You telekick the mouthy one before rolling beneath him, tripping him up. You teleport away and sai blast another, allowing Jade to smash two in the skull with her staff before acrobatically leaping over the head of a third and stabbing him in the spine with her bladed projectile. She pulls it out and throws it into the skull of a fourth.

You quickly teleport between two of them. They reach for you but all they find is your sai blades jammed into their black hearts; you quickly slide them out before jamming them into the bottom of their jaws and teleporting away before they hit the floor.

The final one, the first to speak, is the one you save for last. You open with a kick to his chest, then rolling under him. As he falls, Jade turns and hits him out of the air with her staff, knocking him into a nearby burning brazier, setting him on fire.

With the minions out of the way, you continue onwards. You can hear the sounds of battle echoing throughout the temple, accompanied by screams. Noob must have worked his way slowly through this place at first, converting a small army before springing his attack, because although you come across several wraith corpses, you find more that are, or were, still human.

You hear a scream from a nearby room and both you and Jade kick open the large doors into a grand dining hall. There was a meal prepared, but it is largely ruined as three wraiths battle on the ancient wooden table against a single young woman with cold blue hair and an outfit not unalike Sub-Zero's.

One of the wraiths kicks her aside and she falls off the table. Another picks up a large knife and prepares to leap upon her and impale her.

You grab the knife from the wraith's hand and stab him in the eye with it, forcing it into his brain. You look at the young woman as she stares at you with wide eyes.

"Sub-Zero! Smoke! Where are they?" you demand of her.

"The... The main chamber! The one with the giant statues!"

"Where?"

She points at one of the two large doors in the room and you and Jade both run towards them. "Escape the temple or hide!" you order her.

The young one gets up and runs behind you. "H-Hey! I'm coming with! I was handling those guys! I didn't even need your help!"

"Clearly," you say, rolling your eyes.

You and Jade force the door open, finding yourselves in another long hall leading to the primary chamber of the temple at its heart. You run forwards and only barely notice the attack coming from above before it is too late. You shout a warning to Jade and you both leap back, nearly knocking over the cryomancer woman.

Three demon assassins jump down. You recognize them as the ones Quan Chi used to keep around him like pets. They each draw bladed weapons and their leader, the one called Ashrah, steps forth.

"Well, well, well, look what we have here... A pair of lost little edenians to play with." She brings up her knives and licks one. "And they look so tasty, too..."

"I count only one edenian," the dark-skinned one with white hair says with a smile, "and one filthy half-breed tarkatan whore."

Your eyes flare open as the demons laugh at you.

"Poor Mileena," the raven-haired one coos, "always doomed to be in the shadow of her sister, who she cannot even kill!"

Ashrah spins her knives around her fingers with great dexterity as she approaches. "Tell me, Mileena, what kind of existence must you have, to know that you weren't even good enough to do what you were made to do?"

"ENOUGH!" you scream at them. Jade places a steadying hand on your shoulder.

"Touched a nerve," one of them sneers.

"Let's sever it quickly," Ashrah replies. "Sareena is awaiting us in the main chamber."

You, Jade and the cryomancer prepare to face the three demon assassins.

You tear off your veil to be threatening, but she seems to like it. You leap at her and try to bite her neck, but shockingly, she leaps towards you and bites yours instead!

You both collide and fall to the floor, scratching and kicking at her as she bites down to draw blood. She relishes in the taste of your blood as you scratch her back; she, in response, gives you a loving slice across your stomach, not deep enough to truly harm, but deep enough to bleed. She's playing with you.

You open your mouth and try to bite down on her neck, but she brings up a hand and forces your head back as she continues to bite while her body writhes against yours like a demonic lynx.

Jade springs up from behind and smashes Ashrah in the back with her staff, allowing you to roll off of her. The cryomancer then freezes Kia in place before doing the same to Jataaka, managing to subdue both of them.

Ashrah turns to the side and pushes herself up to her feet before Jade dropkicks her back down to the floor. She reaches for her knife.

Reality is catching up with her... in the next room over. Noob Saibot is more powerful than any other wraith since Lord Shinnok granted him his new power. She hasn't a chance..."

She pulls another knife from between her breasts and lunges at you. You catch her blade with the prongs of your sai and deliver to her a toothy kiss, dragging your tongue across her lips before punching her in the gut, knocking the wind out of her lungs and dropping her to the floor.

"Come on!" Jade urges as you, she and--

"What's your name?" you ask the girl.

"I am called Frost," she replies, before she sees your face. "GAH, HELL! WOAH!"

You narrow your eyes as you slip your veil back on. "Mind your manners, little girl, or I might just dine on cryomancer tonight."

"Right, sure," she nods.

You three run towards the main chamber, leaving the beaten and frozen demon minions behind. Ashrah breathlessly laughs as you run.

"You cannot defeat him," she taunts. "You cannot defeat him!"

The three of you burst through the doors and are faced with a dismal sight.

The primary chamber is burning, due to several candles knocked over that have lit ancient tapestries on fire. Within these flames you can see the silhouette of Sub-Zero, lying beaten and wounded on the floor, with Sareena over him, attempting to rouse him. "Get up! Come on, Kuai, get up!"

Across the way, a female wraith wielding punching daggers is battling Smoke. She is clearly several times more skilled than the other wraiths, and she is keeping the grey ninja at bay with her attacks.

But it is the visage of Noob Saibot that startles you the most; he stands near Sub-Zero, taunting his younger brother. His eyes burn blue and white and in his arms he holds a scythe wrought of pure necrotic shadow that drips with vile black oil. He points at Sub-Zero.

"You and your pathetic parody of the Lin Kuei are beaten. Now, you will serve me in undeath."

"Stop!" Sareena shouts. She stands from Sub-Zero's side and charges at Noob, who commands his shadow clone Siabot to emerge from the floor and grab her legs, tripping her.

"Watch as your hope dies," Noob says as he raises his scythe and prepares to bring it down upon Sub-Zero's chest. You, Jade, Frost and Smoke see this and all attempt to stop it; you and Jade both throw projectiles while Frost sends a cone of cold towards the wraith, but it is the grey ninja who makes the boldest, and perhaps the most foolish, move of all.

Smoke kicks the female wraith in the face before teleporting across the room in a cloud of grey mist to stand between the dreaded wraith and his oldest, dearest friend. Perhaps he believed he could catch the scythe or deflect it, anything to stop it from reaching Sub-Zero---and that he did, but not the way he wanted.

The scythe comes down and impales Smoke in the chest, cutting through his sternum and coming out cleanly through to the other side. Jade and Sareena scream in terror as their friend is cut into, his arms going limp and the smoke coming off of his skin lessoning. Noob raises a hand and summons a wraith minion, who is then hit with all three of your attacks, leaving the wraith leader unharmed.

He tilts his head before turning and tossing Smoke across the room carelessly. The grey ninja hits the ground and rolls, coughing up blood as he does. "Useless fool," he mutters to himself before turning his attention back on Sub-Zero.

The new leader of the Lin Kuei had been forced to watch his oldest friend, his most loyal follower, sacrifice himself. This brings about a fury within the cryomancer unlike any other and he shouts in rage as he blasts Noob with a cold storm, freezing him to the spot. He than gets up and tackles his dead brother to the floor, pummeling him with a rain of freezing punches, augmenting each with a ball of ice around his fist.

Jade runs towards Smoke, but is suddenly attacked by the female wraith, forcing her to defend herself. Sareena struggles against the shadow clone Saibot, who continues to hold her in place. Frost wants to help Sub-Zero, but at that moment, more wraiths run into the room. She decides to go and attack them and hold them off as best she can--which may not be for long.

Sareena takes out a pair of metal kama and forces them both into his back; he stumbles forwards before he turns and bashes her aside with the pole end of his scythe. Out of the corner of your eye you see Jade tangling with the wraith while Smoke lies nearby, slowly bleeding and gasping for breath.

You look at Noob as Sub-Zero creates a sword of ice and attacks him from behind; Noob's shadow, Saibot, then appears and trips him as Noob knocks the ice sword out of his hands with his scythe.

"You will die and live again!" Noob cries as he attacks Sub-Zero. "We will be brothers eternal, united in death, masters of a new legion of assassins! I will make them better!"

"You're no better than Oniro and Sektor, with the Cyber Initiative!" Sub-Zero says, punching a fist cleanly through Saibot. "And just as I stopped them, I will stop you!"

Sareena gets to her feet; you shout at her to help Frost hold off the minions, as the sixteen-year-old is not doing too well, managing to defend herself only thanks to her barely-controlled powers.

Noob sinks into the floor before shooting back up onto his feet; his scythe dematerializes and reappears in his hands. Sub-Zero gets back up to his feet. "You may know the chill of death, but for what you did, I will show you a cold unlike any other," the cryomancer threatens, his arms becoming covered in white frost.

"You are nothing compared to the assassin I was in life," Noob says. "You are a child playing at holding a candle to the legacy of Sub-Zero. But now I am so much more. You will see this."

"YOU WILL SEE DEATH!" Sub-Zero replies before creating two swords out of ice and charging in.

With both sais in hand, you point up at the chain and blast it, causing it to fall down---straight upon Noob! The ancient metal both impales him and acts as an iron cage around him. He roars in pain and Sub-Zero takes his opportunity to blast the chandelier with ice, completely and utterly encasing Noob within both a solid block of ice and the iron cage.

With their leader subdued, the remaining wraiths vanish and flee. Sub-Zero spends several more moments applying even more layers of ice upon his brother's prison to ensure that he cannot escape.

Before he has a chance to express gratitude for your assistance, you and he exchange glances and you both know that Jade is with Smoke, and he may very well be breathing his last. You both run out of the room, with the Lin Kuei leader ordering Sareena and Frost to stay with Noob as you do so.

You find them both halfway out of the temple, with her holding Smoke in the snow. In her haste, she forgot that she cannot pilot the ship--she does not know how. She looks up at you both as Smoke lays in the snow, bleeding, his skin terribly pale.

Sub-Zero looks at the ship. "I know how to use this vessel!" he shouts. "I was with Kaito when Asgaarth instructed us both in its use--GET HIM ON BOARD!"

All three of you rush him onto the ship. As you do so, Sareena, having violated Sub-Zero's orders, runs out to the boat.

Sareena can lead them to Phlox, we'll stay here and wait for the others.

"I will stay here," you tell Jade as she comforts the wounded Smoke. He is still struggling to breathe.

"Stay with me," she says to him, "Stay with me..."

You place a hand on her shoulder. "When Kitana and the others arrive, I will tell them what has happened," you tell her. You nod at Sareena and Sub-Zero as they prepare to depart.

You run to the side of the ship and jump off as it becomes encased in fog, the telltale sign of the vessel beginning its interrealm travel. You run back inside the Lin Kuei temple where you meet back up with Frost in the main chamber.

Frost uses her powers to continually ensure Noob's prison does not thaw. You scour the remainder of the temple and gather what few survivors of the new Lin Kuei are left while also ensuring there are no more wraiths or demons. It is an hour before reinforcements arrive; Kitana and the Special Forces, along with the Shaolin.

They are surprised to find you here, but you and Frost explain the situation to them.

"They left an hour ago?" Kitana asks. "That's strange... If the pool had healed Smoke, they would have returned by now, surely..."

"Perhaps something happened," Liu Kang suggests.

"Jade, Sub-Zero and Sareena were with him," you tell them. "What could have kept them, when we have Noob Saibot here as our captive?"

Kitana crosses her arms, uncertain of this latest development. As the others confer, she takes you aside.

"I have spoken with Jax and Sonya Blade," she tells you, changing the subject. "They have been tracking Turana here in Earthrealm, trying to keep an eye on her. But they have not approached her."

"Perhaps we should," you say to her.

"I am still concerned about our allies on the Nethership," Kitana says. "But until we learn what has happened to them, it will not do to sit around and wait. We can leave now to go find her."

"Does she want to be found, though?" you ask. "You said she refused to speak through the orb."

"We owe it to her," Kitana says, "and to Kaito. He would want us to help her."

After a moment, you nod. The shaolin will stay back here at the Lin Kuei temple to help protect it while you depart with the Special Forces to track down the sphinx.

Hopefully she will receive you warmly...

That's all for this weekend, folks, and this thread is nearly out the door.

I'm going to be making a poll shortly for the next protagonist, but I must inform you that the next thread will be the last for quite a while. I will be busy the entire month of October, due in no small part to the fact that I am getting ready to leave Korea to be stationed somewhere else.

That's right, soon Kimmy up north won't be able to shoot missiles into my backyard.

Thoughts on this weekend's quest? Comments? Questions? Concerns? I'll be here until the thread dies.
>>
>>42628446
When does Mileena find her true love Kaito?
>>
>>42628446
i thought you said you wont be doing strawpoll since you suspected cheating last time
>>
>>42628446
It was really neat. Thanks for running, we'll miss you.
>>
>>42628446
Thanks for running boss I hope turana is on the poll
>>
>>42628446
Perhaps we can split it and do Sub-Zero for the first day or so and then Titty Kitty for the last day or so.

Also: >>42628516
I remember you saying that too.
>>
>>42628516
I suspect so myself.

>>42628516

Yeah, I did say that, didn't I.

Hm.

Well, I suppose I could always just choose the next one myself, but since it is going to be the last one for a while, I might do a poll anyway. Thoughts?
>>
>>42628565
just pick if its going to be the last one dont leave it open to cheating
>>
>>42628565
Sub-Zero and Titty Kitty twofer!
>>
>>42628498
You serious? First Kaito, then waifu wars.
not that I necessarily disagree. It's her or maybe Khameleon, or Sheeva.
>>
>>42628645
I'm actually new to the quest, but Mileena was always my favorite.
>>
>>42628633
Mah nigga
>>
>>42628565
Well the first Mileena thread had 41 posters that weren't you. That might have something to do with it.
However, if you wanted you could go for narrow down, then decide informed by the poll.

Another question I'd like to address my followers; after I return in November, where do you guys want to go from there? More sidequests, or back on track with Kaito?

These quests have been a fun sideplot in the main event of things, introducing a number of elements I intend on building on in later installments, and we can talk more about it next weekend, but how do you guys feel about these side stories so far?
>>
>>42628645
>>42628663
Nah, if anyone it's Turana. She's literally the closest to Kaito.

>>42628714
They're cool, get to do other stuff. Gotta get back on the Kaito train eventually though. Best bite that bullet and get the fight over with though.
>>
>>42628714
I'd like to wrap up this storyline a bit, then back to the main plot.
>>
>>42628714
i like them but im a huge kaito and after the brake would make for a good return for kaito
>>
I'm going to be so mad if Turana gone evil. I knew we shouldn't have let her look into Shangs shit.
>>
>>42628775
Probably not evil, but I'm afraid if she is left unchecked, she might rethink her "no dark magic" policy
>>
>>42628775
She's not "gone evil." She's had her soul ripped out and replaced by Shang's.

>>42628775

I promise you this, without any spoilers: she is not evil.

But despair can drive anyone into making mistakes.
>>
>>42628775
If she has gone evil, we'll just have to get Kaito back that much quicker, then smack her upside the head until she's good again.

>>42628803
Pretty sure she's already considering dabbling in Dark Magic, to bring her Kaito back.
>>
>>42628693
>>42628565
Sorry, I meant rather than explicitly by results. It's your quest man, you should do what you feel to a certain extent.
Your opinion matters too after all.
>>
>>42628814
She's been talking to Shinnok... Shit
>>
>>42628749
She's Sareena territory for me personally.
>>
>>42628714
So in summary; it's been a blast, but it would be best if we could wrap up the side storylines before the break, and start the new main storyline when you are back.
>>
>>42628714
I'd like a return, not like we'll get this crazy interdimensional stuff done without him.
>>
>>42628865
She's closer then Sareena, personally. I mean, most of the shit that Kaito does is a reaction to Turana.
He leapt into Shao Kahn's arena to try and save her, he orb'd right infront of Shao Kahn to tell her it'd be all right, when he flipped out and red lightning'd it was Shao Kahn hitting Turana with the hammer that pushed him over.

He lurves the Titty Kitty.
>>
>>42628911
>He leapt into Shao Kahn's arena to try and save her

And Asgaarth, just saying

But he is part bird too

I should've introduced a harpy woman
>>
>>42628911
And Titty Kitty lurves him, and so does Mileena and probably one or two other girls.
>>
>>42628911
Now now, Kaito was pretty damn selfless to whoever he could help.
He jumped in the arena for Asgaarth. Turana could have waited for later.
When he summoned the red lighting Mileena was impaled as well, and a bunch of his friends were unconcious, also Shao promised he'll destroy everything he loves, so I am sure mom would have been on the platter sooner or later.
>>
>>42628911
Well yes, but there are different kinds of love than boning anon.
And I felt like that particular red lightining was a culmination of Mileena getting a fist sized hole in her chest and then shao moving onto another, defenseless friend.
80%+80% into maximum over rage.
>>
>>42628911
Or its also because Kaito is a heroic son of a bitch that dont care for tyrents

on a personal note im ready for disregard women acquire godhood
>>
>>42629004
Honestly, the Waifu wars will probably end up either harem end or not start at all.
Otherwise they may tear this quest apart.

I'm already stocking up for the Saurian vs Soul Construct fight.
>>
>>42629092

You saying that once we get back in our body we should try being a better thunder god than Raiden was?

Because I am down for that
>>
>>42628989
Bring back Kaito!
or don't, I like him, but we could promote a new mook into the spotlight and have to put up with hearing about him.
>>
>>42629092
>acquire godhood
I've been playing with the idea, but frankly, I don't want to get stuck with Raiden's job. That stuff is heavy yo.
>>
>>42629129
Actually, speaking of that. When we get our body back, I do want to take the Red Lightning back from Raiden.
It's awesome he shouldered it while we're gone, but that's our cross to bare. We'll make Susano'O our bitch and be the new Red Lightning.
>>
>>42629129
>>42629140
no you guy are missing it what realm dosent have any gods right now

Edenia
>>
>>42629129
Guys. No. Hubris was his downfall. We earn it. By pestering the shit out of a nameless Edenian goddess.
Then do nothing with it, maybe go start a family and defend a realm or nine from time to time.

There's always Yanake.

But she's never really talked about.
>>
>>42629175
I agree. Not to mention that it seems it has a bad influence on him.
My only regret is that Kaito will probably can never have children because of it.
>>
>>42629266
You realize..man, we're more likely to successfully pull that off with reptile.
>>
>>42629259
thats the plan
>>42629291
unfortunately she dosent really show up much but i like her
>>
>>42629291
Yanake is cool too, I think she's just not really talked about because we haven't seen her in a long time IC.
If she's cool with sharing with Titty Kitty she has my vote.

>>42629308
>My only regret is that Kaito will probably can never have children because of it.
Psh, no. It probably makes him totally extra potent. Like super viagra.
>>
>>42629283
But I want Half human, half god, half tarkaten babies!
>>
>>42629283
>kind of hoping it ends with Kato still being single
as I said; freedom is the sweetest mistress
>>
>>42629336
Eh, I'm pretty sure Turana knows enough magic to make her compatible with a human. Shang Tsung could do some crazy shit.
>>
>>42629291
I'd be down for it. Except for, you know, certain anons insistance on a cat being fine too.
>>
>>42629344
No I mean any children he has will carry the potential for the red lightning, and be prone to posession.
>>
>>42629384
That..no man, just no.
>>
>>42629308
>My only regret is that Kaito will probably can never have children because of it.

Wait what, why? What about the Red Lightning doesn't allow for kids?

Unless you meant godhood. Godhood means you can still have kids, that's how we have Rain, Taven, Daegon and someone else I haven't introduced yet
>>
>>42629401
That'd why Kaito has to become the new spirit of the Red Lightning. So any kids he has won't be at risk of corruption.
They'll talk of him like they do of the Great Kung Lao.

>>42629419
Yes, man. Yes.
>>
>>42629346
You and me both anon.
Minus the half god part. I'm cool with agelessness and mastering Hydromancy to the point it bleeds into cryo and...whatever steam is.
>>
>>42629438
No I meant the Crimson Thunder's posession.

>>42629453
But Kaito was never the advocate or spirit of rage and anger, he just used those things when the situation got grim.
>>
>>42629512
Yes, this is why he has to take it over, get rid of Susano'o and become the new Aspect of the Red Lightning.

So it stops being rage and anger and stops corrupting and possessing it's user.
>>
>>42629557
What will it become then I wonder? The power of Nutpunch, and Filrting?
>>
Why does everyone want Kaito to immediately try to reup on the thing that killed him and threatened to Shao Khan his home realm?
>>
>>42629601
Cause it took over our body, kicked us out, and acted like a jackass.
I want a fucking Round 2.
>>
>>42629601

Because that guy jacked Kaito's body and people probably took offense to it, so they want to take him, break him and make him their bitch.

If I had to guess.

>>42629625

Yeah, see?
>>
>>42629601
Look which is better? If we recover it, safeguard it, use it in emergencies, and keep it in check with our peaceful waterpowers.
Or it remains with Raiden, potentially making him Shao Kahning Earthrealm, or everything around it?
>>
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susanoo-no-Mikoto
If anyone's curious what this one anon is on about.
When I brought it up originally I was thinking Buloc.
However, Damashi already said this wasn't the case.
>>
>>42629680

I actually read up on the guy after you said it the first time; I didn't know what he was so I googled it and the first result was Naruto stuff so I signed it off as such; but having read it now, I could definitely see a connection between the Crimson Thunderer and him.
>>
>>42629669
That didn't work last time.
We have two choices. Actually study our water powers and healing powers and improve.
Get new electricity powers and try to match strength for strength.
Or learn sorcery because one of our best friends isn't already great at that.
