Welcome to Neolithic Pokemon Quest, Episode 5. The last 4 threads can be found at http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Neolithic%20Pokemon%20Quest

You play as Cain, a 17 year old hunter from the Endless Forest. After a forest fire separated you from the tribe, you wandered aimlessly into the Dragonback Mountains. In the icy reaches of the mountains, you befriended a small Swimib and named him Dire. With the help of Dire, you managed to kill a newly hatched Beedrill. The next day, in search of water, you meet an old man and slaughter a slowpoke together. The man, Cato, introduced you to a girl with another pokedex, after a celebration of the summer solstice. Rosalia and you decided to travel together, and leave her home village filled with new life. After discussing footwear, you train Dire in being a bad ass. The next morning, you manage to kill a Shieldon with the help of your best friendand best girl Dire.

While we wait for people to show up, what kind of Pokemon would you like to see in this quest?

Also, how do you guys feel about handling Goletts? Would you like them to be something people are making today, or a lost art from the world before?
>>

First things first.

FUCK YES NEOLITHIC POKEMANZ QUEST

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I'm going to say no to Golletts (it'd just complicate things unnecessarily, I think). We're traveling down from the mountains into the Eternal Forest, yes? Grass types. We could use a poison-heavy, paralytic status whore to round out the immense strength that will one day be Dire.
>>
>>42604637
Hi op
>>
>>42604637
Grass and Bug, because we're visiting the forest soon.
Goletts would be fine it they were only made by one civilization, a cut off and mystical one.

Hi buddy
>>
>>42604637
>and best girl
Wait, have we been getting Dire's gender wrong all along? I'm sorry if that's the case, Dire.

I'm fine with seeing any kind of Pokemon so long as they're appropriate to the ecosystem. Some Pokemon feel like they're just random monsters, I'd prefer things that are part of the world around them. Animals with strange abilities rather than monsters, is how I'd think of it. Though I wouldn't be opposed to some of them that are more like nature spirits, so we can have things like Geodude that are just living rocks.

As for Goletts, I'd be fine with people making them now, but very rarely. Have their creation be something that's only now being discovered, and as its still not properly understood it's kind of hit or miss if they can be made. Maybe have some elements of divine inspiration being required to breathe life into clay, make them a bit more mystical in nature.

Warlord theme would be crazy cool for us

Holy shit. Genghis Khan.
>>
For mon types, I think we're not really likely to see too many synthetic pokemon. Porygon, Voltorb, Bronzor especially. The Honedge and Gollett lines I could see as possible in very rough forms as ghosts investing weapons and armor, though the Gollets are going to be extremely rare. They could be passed off as Registeel's attempts to mimic the process that Regigigas used to create the various Regi trios, but much more flawed and initially failures that a ghost-type like a Shuppet inhabited.

If you're asking for specific mon types for us to encounter directly in the forest, I'd say throw us some curveballs. Maybe some fire types skirting the edges of the forest or that are capable of living in the place without burning it to the ground, like the Cyndaquil line? Their fires are a lot more under control than most other fire types, and they're based on burrowing animals as well so they could easily live in a forested region with dens in hollowed out trees or among the roots.

Dire sniffs the air nervously, searching for notes of the Luxio pack. You managed to take about half of the killed Pokemon, primarily meat from the tail and ribs, wrapped in a bundle of the pokemon's tan skin. It's a thick layer of leather, with fat sticking to the inside, and a texture like sandstone. If you managed to cure it, it could probably stop a arrowhead before it could enter your body.

Additionally, the pokemon's head is strapped to your back with a bit of rope. The beak hangs open, too strong for you to remove it in the short amount of time you spent on harvesting it. Using it as a bowl or pan, you should be able to cook some amazing food. The rest of the body is left where you slaughtered it, hopefully the Luxio will take it over you.

After a nerve wracking hike through the trees, alternating between a jog and trot, you burst into the flower covered valley. A small plume of smoke rises from the field, the flowers and grasses around it tamped down. Combee fly past it obliviously, hovering to suck necter from the valley's many species of wild flowers. A few are engaged in battle with some kind of flower, a strange pink one that shoots it's petals at the Combees.

Agreed. Fry pan makes cooking easier but keep an eye on those combee.
>>

>start on dat fancy breakfast before Rosalia wakes up
Wait, wouldn't the flower want the Combee to drain its nectar? That's why it has it in the first place, so that Bug-types will drink it and it can attach its pollen to them while they're distracted.
>>
>>42605648

Rats shoot electricity out of their cheeks, too. Why are you assuming that biology as it applies to our world applies the exact same to this one?
>>
>>42605579
>>go help the Combees

If we help the combee, we could get on their good side, and possible be able to harvest some of their excess honey to bolster our provisions, and possible another friend.
>>
>>42605691
I'm not assuming it's exactly like our world, but there would be some principles that remain the same. The fact that flowers exist at all means they probably have the same biological purpose as in our world.
>>
>>42605759
Consider the Johto episodes with Bulbasaur and Heracross. It might be that they're taking too much nectar, and it's uncomfortable to the grass-type.

Billy Mays here with the amazing shieldon head
>>
You place the meat next to the fire, and pull the hanging head from your shoulder. You take a moment to look over the head, finding the places most suited for your project.

To begin, you carve the skin and muscle from the pokemon's skull. This is placed next to the meat, to be used in stews or leather working. With the skin removed, it's much more obvious how to remove the plate from the skull. The plate is actually the pokemon's forehead, vastly overgrown and armored. You place a bit of stone against the edge of the plate, where it meets with the beak of the Shieldon. Taking another rock from the ground, you smash at the stone until the bone breaks. It takes three different stones to remove the plate from the skull entirely, the bone almost as hard as rock. Finally, you get a cupped plate of the strange material, shaped like an oval, but missing a small circle at the bottom. The plate is about as wide across as your waist at its widest, and as long as your hand and forearm combined. Despite its size, it's surprisingly light, about half the weight of a stone of the same size.
1/2
>>
>>42606565
With a newly made pan, you begin making the breakfast. You mix together water and some of the crushed grain from the village, then some slivers of Shieldon fat. Another glob of the fresh fat is placed on the pan, which is suspended over the fire by a rickety stand made from stone and wood. With the fat sizzling merrily in the pan, you throw thick cuts of the meat onto the pan. A few of the plants near the camp serve to season the meat, along with a berry from your pouch. Once the meat is finished cooking(medium rare), you pour the batter into the hot pan. As the pancakes start to bubble, you flip them with a carved stick.

Rosalia woke up sometime between the steak and pancakes, and pulls two wooden discs from her bag to hold the food. Dire gets his breakfast served up on a pad of woven grass, which he eats with the same fervor as the actual food. The juices from the meat soak into the bread, preventing it from pooling at the bottom of the plates.

Pokeballs have only been coloured 'Voltorb Pattern' in their modern incarnation, though. Older Pokeballs were either Apricorns (none of which is patterned like the modern ball), or other devices that weren't even ball-shaped (Giant Bell, spoon and key, hip-flask-alike). And if Voltorbs were either the basis for the pokeball, or the pokeball was mad from Voltorb parts, pokeballs would have started looking like Voltorbs far, far sooner then they did.

"It is a good meal. Where did the meat come from?" Rosalia says, transferring a piece of Shieldon from the plate to her mouth.

"Me and Dire found the Pokemon in the forest, and decided that it would be a good breakfast. The pan's from it too." You finish your steak, and begin sopping up the juices with the cake. If only you had some jelly doughnuts, then this would be just like a breakfast with the tribe.

"We are traveling to the Green River, are we not?" You nod. "Which road are you planning to take?"

Wait, what? "There's a road?"

"Don't roll you eyes at me. I'd like to see you get through the Endless forest." You start cleaning up from breakfast, pouring water over the new Shieldon pan and scrubbing at it with a pad of grasses and leaves. Rosalia does the same, slightly crestfallen.

After packing up your gear, and distributing the meat and skin between the two of you, you start walking. The flowers crush beneath your feet, much like how the Combees defeated that weird flower. They carried its body to their nest, six or so struggling to lift it. Wonder what they're planning to do with it.

Your confident, shoeless, steps eat away at the path as the hours pass. You launch into a song after a while, followed by another when you finish it. It's a ancient chant about a great hero, a young boy that lead his tribe to become the leaders of a massive confederation of tribes. He truly was the very best, like no one ever was.

"Why didn't you just make them stay out? Pokemon stay away from our village, mostly." The road has widened out enough to walk side by side, so you manage to see her quizzical expression from the corner of your eye.

"We moved around too much for that. By the time we got back to a place we were before, the Pokemon have all forgotten us. Even so, we never had too much trouble with them. There were the occasional Luxio pack that would follow us, but that was just them wantin' our scraps."

"Azel, a boy in my village, spoke of a city on the Green River, but it all came from a traveler. The traveler came to our village from it, and Azel's family hosted him. Perhaps we could go there, and see what life is like. They might have seen your tribe too."

Guess you stay silent for eight hours.

As the sun is close to setting, your each the intersection of the three roads. A few other travelers walk along the roads, far in the distance. A fire burns off to the side of the intersection in a pit six feet deep, built of tamped earth and stone. The circular pit has two small entrances, and a sloped piece of earth cut away and filled with piece of wood. A fire drill sits in a small cutout, ready for any traveler that might find the fire quenched.

You pull the cord from your pack, and quickly make a harness. A couple of trees offer up their branches to form a sled, which you load with a couple of small rocks. To finish the sled, you strap a curved branch to the back, and place fishing line on the end. One of Dire's favorite berries is placed on the string, the hook replaced with a matrix of line.

Strapping the harness onto Dire, you watch as he stands up on two legs and pulls the berry from the string.

Sled Mark 2 holds the berry much farther out, as well as just high enough to be out of reach. With some urging, Dire starts running with you. To convince him, you had to load your bag with rocks too, but you figure its worth it

Dire keeps pace with you easily, despite the sled. Every ten minutes or so, you load another rock onto the sled.

The training session goes on for two hours.

A massive pile of stone is loaded onto the sled, the runners digging ruts into the soil. Dire has slowed down to a human walking pace, each step straining heavily against the cord. You're honestly surprised the cord hasn't snapped by now, but the hemp fibers hold stonglegalize it, man. You know why they banned it?i hope you guys all read hat in your stoner voice

You strain under the weight of your own pack, proportionally much less due to the limits of the bag, but still over a hundred pounds. The fire pit is in sight, only a hundred yards away. Leaving a pair of footprints deep in the thick soil, you lead Dire across the field.

At the top of the stairs, you untie the harness around Dire. The two of you collapse down the stairs, legs burning. Rosalia has set up the camp, the two woven reed bedrolls next to the flames. The Shieldon pan is sitting over the hole, a thick stew of barley, Skittytail tubers, and Shieldon meat brewing in it.

"I. Brought. Rocks." You wheeze out, lying dead on your roll. Dire is digging into your pack, and pulls the pemmican bag from it wearily. You untie it for him, and he shoves his head into the open sack. Good job Dire, all you need now is a gallon of milk

"Is there any room for another traveler?" A voice calls down from the heavens-no, that's just the stairs. A well dressed man stands at the top of the stairs, a short brown beard cut close to his jaw, but grown out enough that it appears that he's been traveling hard for a few days.

*legalize it, man. You know why they banned it?

Act hesitant but not aggressive. Question who he is and try to judge his motives, but generally stay open to the idea of a new travelling companion. It's a dangerous world, and you have to keep on your guard, but not everyone's a threat and there's safety in numbers. A lot of people are actually quite pleasant.

Sure, What's up?

>Skittytail tubers
What? Oh, like cattails. Right, I get it. I hope Skittytail root is less fibrous than cattail corm, though, or else it's not going to be good for stew.

"Oh course. Come, my friend has prepared dinner." You wave him in from your lying position, no doubt a strange sight. "I'm Cain, this isRosalia, and the Swinub is Dire."

"A pleasure to meet you. I sadly had to leave my Pokemon at my home, for he is ill. Without him, I'm forced to travel alone. It's good to meet fellow travelers, I feared that my voice would leave me from disuse." The man says with a slight smirk, as if every moment of his life is an unceasing joke, unnoticed by most people. "The Airy Road is known for its great views of the region, but I'd rather stay here on the ground than return to the cliffs and bridges."

you writing sage, or still waiting?

"Ah, excuse my rudeness. I am Havel, a renowned traveler and cartographer. Many will pay for my maps, due to my reputation. No man's maps are quite so extensive and up to date as mine. They are very important, don't you think?"

You nod along, not quite understanding what a cartographer does, but there's no reason to let him know.

>>42612078
"Only what comes from months ago. The Airy Road and Cave Road are much more profitable, due to their ever changing nature. The Canyon road, comparatively, is static. It follows the path of a river, which has cut into the hills. And I'll readily admit, water is by no means my strong suit. I leave the mapping of rivers and their obstacles to those that more skilled than I."

Sorry, was looking for pictures and a video. I'm yet to find a good image of how I want Havel to look. The closest I've come is the guy from Tangled.

It looks like most people have left, so I'm gonna close it after this.

You make small talk with Havel late into the night, listening to stories of his travels. He shows you a large ring of shining material, something called "gold". It's apparently from the heights of the Charred Cliffs, his tribe's homeland. When you ask him what happened his tribe, he answers evasively, looking sad. The thick barley stew helps revive you, to say nothing of the effects of Havel's wineskin. A kind man, he reminds you of your father before he passed away. Havel has the same easy laughter, and moves much like a aged hunter or a Luxray. A constant wariness, always ready to move, despite being relaxed.

Eventually, you have to go to sleep. With the fire still burning bright in it's cage, you stretch out on your bedroll. The stars paint the sky in a mosaic of points of light, forming the familiar pictures in the sky. The pit limits your view to a small circle of them, but no clouds mask the stars tonight. As you watch, a star streaks across the sky, disappearing between Latios and Latias.

A roar echoes across the valley, ringing in your ears as you fall asleep. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V595oWP5tSE
