Welcome to Neolithic Pokemon Quest, Episode 6. The last 5 threads can be found at http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Neolithic%20Pokemon%20Quest

You play as Cain, a 17 year old hunter from the Endless Forest. After a forest fire separated you from the tribe, you wandered aimlessly into the Dragonback Mountains. In the icy reaches of the mountains, you befriended a small Swimib and named him Dire. With the help of Dire, you managed to kill a newly hatched Beedrill. The next day, in search of water, you meet an old man and slaughter a slowpoke together. The man, Cato, introduced you to a girl with another pokedex, after a celebration of the summer solstice. Rosalia and you decided to travel together, and leave her home village filled with new life. After discussing footwear, you train Dire in being a bad ass. The next morning, you manage to kill a Shieldon with the help of your best Pokemon Dire. Leg day occurs, and you meet a traveling map maker named Havel.

While we wait for people to show up, what times would be best for you guys to play? My weekends are open most of the time, provided I don't have to study.

For the ingame discussion, would you guys want to do little fights like with the Shieldon, or would you prefer giant, AoT style fights where you have to take advantage of the environment to win? Probably a combo?
>>

Weekends and nights are best. As for combat a combo would be best.

Cool, good to know. I'm thinking about adding some 3d movement to the fights, once you guys get back to the Endless Forest.

The sun rises late in the morning for you, the fire pit's walls holding off the day. The resultant soreness in your legs doesn't motivate you to get up early either.

Finally, once the sun has breached the walls of your fortress, you get up. Dire is going through the same movements, though with a great deal more rolling around on his back. A good portion of stew remains in the pan, now cooled to room temperature. You serve up, and notice the empty spot where Havel's bedroll was. His pack is still leaning up against the wall of the pit, so he must not have left yet.

Do whatever's appropriate for what we're fighting. Using the environment is big no matter what your doing, but if we're fighting small, ground based poggles then we shouldn't be flipping around everywhere.

Instead of a pauldron, could we fit it to Dire? He'll outgrow it soon enough, but for now he can wear it to protect his sides.

Well, I'd like to make Dire some armor, then. Don't make him wear it all the time, of course, but strap it on when we're going hunting. Oh wait, we'd need to wait for the leather to cure first to make the straps. Leave that for later, then. Right now let's just go looking for Havel, then.

A Pokemon in the wild is going to learn how to do natural stuff through instincts, or by watching it's parents. If Dire is an instinctual learner, then there is not much we can do. Going through your daily routine of stretches, you look over the Swinub page of your pokedex. The snow white pages stand out, bright against the grass, filled with a knowledge gained by years of careful study. One a list of abilities, it states that even young Swinubs can form and manipulate ice. The idea isn't entirely foreign, though ice is a new idea to you. It never got cold enough in the Endless forest, except for in the far northern reaches of it.

Finishing your stretches, you call over Dire with a lilting whistle. A blackberry bush offers its fruits, the thorns sharp enough to draw blood if you were to touch them. Dire chomps down on the ripe berry in your hand, the purple juice staining the fur around his mouth.

"Dire, you remember snow?" Dire nods, pushing against your fist to get to the berries within. "Good boy. Now, try to make the berries as cold as the snow. If you do, I'll get you some more. Sound good?" Dire snorts, the air slightly cool. That's a good sign.

You place the berries on the ground, and step back a step. Dire is about to rush them, but backs off when you look down at him. Bracing himself, Dire takes a deep breath in.

A gust of icy wind launches from his snout, sending goosebumps up your legs. A small amount of snow now coats the berries, as well as the ground in a fan around Dire's face. Happily, the small Pokemon walks forward and starts eating the frozen berries.

>Dire has learned POWDER SNOW!

You repeat the process for a couple more times, until you're sure Dire has the move down, and that you shouldn't stand next to the berries. Rosalia has woken up, and you can see Havel by the river, his hands moving in a blur of speed. The sound of something cutting through the air reaches you from the distance, but what caused it, you can't tell

You decide to investigate the sound coming from Havel, but grab a few extra berries off the bush for the long and grueling trip. Dire troops beside you, shooting off streams of snow as he walks.

Havel stops the movement of his hands as you get close, the blur of motion resolving into two ironwood(named something else IC) sticks about as long as his arms. The ends have been worked to a point, like a wooden spear, but lack any evidence of fire hardening. Cord is wrapped round the base, to provide a solid grip on the smooth wood.

"Ah, Cain. You've been teaching, damn what was it...Dire! Yes, teaching Dire?" You nod, and Dire shoots out a stream of snow to prove it. "Very nice. When I was your age, the brothers were worried about me training Kakinu. They never were comfortable around a Pokemon that don't provide food or have spikes coming out their hands. Said they didn't like his aura, too quick to act instead of cool and collected like a Lucario."

>>
>>42629560
'What species was Kakinu?"
>>
Many of Havel's words go over your head, strange terms that mean nothing to you. "I've never heard of aura, what is it? And Kakinu, is he your sick Pokemon?"

"Yes, Kakinu is my friend and teacher. We found each other when we were young, less than you and Dire are. Between my twelve and thirteenth nameday. We were fast friends, and we journeyed together when I began my craft."

"What kind of Pokemon was he?"

"Well, I'm not sure. I've never seen another like him, and no one has yet been able to name him."

"And aura, what of that?" You ask, and hand Dire some of the berries.

"Ah, yes. Aura is your spirit leaking through your skin. Those that are able to see this on a person can tell much from it. You have a blue aura, touched with streaks of purple. Inquisitive, yet not a scholar. The purple is often found in stories, though you're aura is not all purple. Still, it speaks of a coming greatness. It is up to you, how is shall come.

The brothers were taught by a family of Lucarios, strange beasts no doubt. Blue, and with ears much like a Fennekin or Eevee. Standing as tall as a man, and able to manipulate aura. Two spikes here and here," Havel points to the back of his hands, "and another in their chest."

You have a very strange image in your head of this Pokemon, no doubt it's filled with inaccuracies. It's hips are much to wide, for one thing. No being, human or Pokemon, could look like that.
>insert dialogue
>>
>>42630134
Maybe I can meet one, one day show him the skins. Maybe ask about your village.
>>
>>42630134

>You're right, I am inquisitive. And I know that I can learn more from you. Would you like to accompany Rosalia and me on our travels?
>>
>>42630134

>>
>>42630134
"Sounds fascinating. I've never heard of anything like that. Where was this?"
>>
>>42630170
Supporting.
>>
>>42630134
"Could you describe Kakinu? Perhaps he was something my own tribe had seen at some point."
>>
"What does Kakinu look like? My tribe might have seen his kind before." You pull a piece of skin from your pokedex case, and dip the pen in ink.

"I doubt that. This was north of the Charred Cliffs. Anyway, he stands about five, no, six feet tall. Long arms, kinda thin, but strong. Snow white, but he was prone to getting dirt in his fur, so he tended to be a brownish color. Blue fingers, five of them on each hand. His ears sweep..."

As listen, your hand starts scratching out the Pokemon. It sounds like it might be related to a common Pokemon in the Endless Forest, a Pansage or their uncommon evolved form, Simisage. Perhaps there are multiple breeds of them, adapted to different lands? When you turn the picture so Havel can see it, a increasingly familiar smirk grows on his face.

"Not exactly how he looks, but fairly good for having not seen him in person. His torso is much longer, and his tail lacks any adornment."

You make some small adjustments to the picture, and talk of the adventures Havel and Kakinu had. "Would you like to travel together? Rosalia and I could use advise on our travels, and you've spent years mapping the region."

"You're going down the Canyon road, correct?" You nod the affirmative, "then, sadly, no. I'm expected in the city of Ramah by some colleagues, and I can't be late. Perhaps our patches will cross again, later in life."
>how to respond?

"I'd like that. Have a safe journey, Havel."

"You as well Cain," you shake hands with Havel, a thick ridge of callus along the base of his fingers scraping against your own weather beaten skin. "And you too Dire. Take care of him. I've a feeling he'll need you." Dire pushes his head up against Havel's hand, scratching against it.

Smiling, you part ways with Havel.

We can do both at the same time. Talk with her as we go, sling pebbles at rocks further down the path and then recollect the pebbles as we go.
>>
You pull the sling from your body, where it's been acting as a belt, and start launching random stones as you walk. The first couple of hours they fly off course, either skipping along the ground or going straight up. Once you get the release down though, it starts becoming more accurate.

After an errant shot releases a small flock of Swellows from it heir resting place in a tree, you start to put that endurance training to use.

Stopping after the flying Pokemon have stopped chasing you, you exhale heavily. Dire managed to keep up despite his short stride length, but it's gonna be a while before he can run again. Turns out being covered in long hair isn't great for warm climates.

Walking slowly so Dire can rest, you talk with Rosalia. She managed to get a drawing of the Swellows in the tree, before you pissed them off. You hand off the page of Havel's Pokemon, the strange thing unlike anything either of you have seen before.

"An undiscovered Pokemon. Havel said that he found it in the Charred Heights, correct?" Rosalia asks, studying the drawing. You have a feeling that there's going to be a copy of it filed away into her Pokedex by the end of the day. You nod, the Charred Heights was where he said they met. "Perhaps it is a fire type Pokemon. That would be an interesting Pokemon to study."

You agree, and are about to say something when you hear it. Two distinct sounds, though one has been happening while you talk. It was faint until now, but it's suddenly become much louder. The first is a repetitive banging, as if two massive rocks are being smashed together. The other is a blood chilling roar, accompanied by crashes. What is the cause of either sound, you don't know.

Worse yet, they're both getting closer.

You look over at the source of the roars, then over to Rosalia. Had there not been a very real possibility of a giant Pokemon eating the two of you, you'd have burst out laughing.

Instead, with not a word passing between you, you take off through the trees. Dire's small stature comes in handy, with the furry Pokemon slipping effortlessly under fallen logs and shrubs.

The roars continue, occasionally cut short by a whine of pain. Trees fall with mighty crashes, throwing up clouds of dust and leaves. Wild Pokemon run along side you, all unified in a single quest to escape. A Stantler, bearing a massive rack of antlers, is hit from the side by a thick crimson tail. The wild Pokemon goes flying from the accidental blow dealt to it, splattering against a tree.

Bursting from the forest, you skid to a halt as two Rampardos crash bodily together. Their skulls crack like lightning, a burst of light shooting from the point of impact. They back up once more, and smash together again. The smaller one's torso hangs ever so slightly lower, the many impacts wearing on it. A circular cluster of leaves is set in a ring of ripped up ferns, in the center of which is a low mound.

You stop moving, remembering that some pokemon's sight is based on movement. Hopefully, these are those Pokemon.

Moving slowly, you edge your way around the clearing. Pokemon run past the two fighting Pokemon, moving like a river around a rock. Oblivious, the two continue their battle.

With a final burst from your deadened legs, you dive into the pile of leaves. The waist height mess of vegetation accepts you happily, curling its leafy fingers around you

"What the fuck Cain?"

Found Rosalia. Yay.

You carefully roll in the pile of leaves, making sure to stay covered by the leaves. Something hard digs into your side, clutched between Rosalia's arms. It's too dark to see, but the sounds of battle reach you easily through the nest.

It seems the roaring Pokemon has reached the clearing where the Rampardos were fighting, who have now set aside their differences. Poking your head out, you can see some kind of massive bug with blades for hands. Must be a Scyther, you've always heard that they have blades for hands. Anyways, it's currently attacking all three of the other Pokemon, as well as any that comes near it in their escape.

"Don't move. Wait for them to leave or die, then decide from there." You whisper, and shift slightly so that you can see most of the clearing. You feel Rosalia moving beside you, and shift over slightly.

The massive Pokemon(I'm going to refer to them by name, just for simplicity's sake) seem to have chosen this as their battlefield. Trees fall as the Kabutops slices effortlessly through the trunks, each of its scythes as long as you are tall. The two Rampardos have taken to tag teaming the Tyrantrum, their skulls making meaty *THUMP*s with each impact. The massive T. Rex gives out a number of wounds as well, ripping into their body's with shining claws.

The Kabutops charges into the fray, blades swinging at any opponent. A solid hit severs the leg of a Rampardos, the pokemon's thick blood spraying from the stump. Opportunistically, the Tyrantrum bites into the pokemon's unprotected belly. With a roar of triumph, the Pokemon king flings the limp body into the air.

Following its path from your hiding spot, your eyes widen. "MOVE, NOW!" You shout, forgetting the battle still ongoing. You dive out of the nest, pulling Dire along with you. Rosalia makes it out before the massive Rampardos body slams into the place you just were, hugging the egg protectively.

All three of the remaining Pokemon turn to look at you.

"RRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!"

You grab dire up off the ground, his legs churning the air even as you book it. Grabbing hold of Rosalia's arm, you pull her from a prone position. The Tyrantrum roars with confusion and anger, globs of spit and blood flying. The remaining Rampardos stands up, sniffing the air, while the Kabutops continues to obliterate anything near it. There goes a flock of Gogoat.

Arceus, maybe you should have let the Rampardos body crush you.

The living Rampardos, sporting three long wounds down its back, begins running towards you. It gains on you frightenly fast, it's thick grey legs corded with muscle. The Kabutops suddenly chases after it, stabbing its blades into the ground as it runs on for limbs. Not to be left out, the Tyrantrum's pounding footsteps join the music of the predators.

You continue running through the trees, dodging between freshly cut ones and old growth. Hanging vines tear at your clothes, and your spear is almost sent flying when it catches on a branch.

Spotting a massive oak tree up ahead, you line up with it. Rosalia runs doggedly at your side, struggling to keep up. "Go. Around. Give. Me. The. Egg." You pant out, and pull the oblong egg from her arms. Hope this works.

Dropping back slightly, you hold the egg so the raging Rampardos gets a good look at it. A snort of mucus filled air lands on your neck, and you redouble your speed.

Bare feet pounding on the leafy litter, you pass Rosalia as you approach the tree. "Catch" is all you can get out before you throw it to her, not wasting a moment to see it she got it.

The muscles in your legs bunch together at the base of the tree, burning like fire from exhaustion. With a mixture of fear and adrenaline pushing you to the max, you stab the bottom of your spear into the loam. Using the haft of the weapon, you vault into the trees lower limbs. Dire releases a pent up blast of Powder Snow, coating the ground in ice.

Managing to keep a grip on the weapon, you bounce from branch to branch, then drop to the forest floor. As you fall, the tree cracks like a lightning bolt hit it, splinters flying through the air from the explosion. Risking a moment, you look back to see the Rampardos being torn apart by the rampaging Kabutops. You turn back to front, when you notice how the Tyrantrum doesn't stop.

The tree you just jumped through, weakened by the headbutt and a number of slashes by theKabutops, topples when the twenty foot tall Tyrantrum crashes through its branches.

Reaching the river, you quickly sprint across it. Dire tries his best to help slow the massive Pokemon, blasting snow onto the bank of the river, but it lacks any real power compared to the giant lizard.

>>
"Rosalia. Turn. On. Three."

Dye sprays down the path behind you once more with snow, and you suddenly turn to the left. Rosalia turns to the right, carrying her egg in both arms.

The massive Tyrantrum slips slightly on the frozen earth, her claws saving her from falling over entirely. Six tones of meat, bone, and scale doesn't stop immediately however, the Pokemon running straight on for seconds after you turn.

A almighty roaring comes from deep in the forest, from pain or anger, you won't venture a guess.

You run over to Rosalia, whose hiding behind a large tree. The egg she "liberated" is clutched in her arms, rising and falling with each ragged breath.

"I think they're all gone. Let's go check for something we can use." You say, and pull her back into a fast jog. She looks at you, incredulous. It seems logical to you.

Splashing through the river, you look for the massive hole left in the foliage by the Tyrantrum. Finding it, you pick your way through wreckage. Bending over, you pull a long white feather from beneath a branch. Tucking it away in your bag, a baby Joltic sends a arc of static electricity into your finger.

Wiping the smushed green and yellow slime on your pants, you continue down the path. Stopping where you jump through the tree, you almost vomit from the sight. The Rampardos looks like it's been put through a blender, almost unrecognizable. Small brown Pokemon crawl over the body, their brown shells glistening wet. As you watch, acid is poured onto the carcass by the Pokemon, vile green stuff that melts everything it touches into a slurry.

Leading Rosalia away from the scene, you head back to the Rampardos nest. The pokem-. The things haven't gotten to the the carcass here, the dead Rampardos still as "whole" as it was. I hope you all appreciate how much self restraint it took to not make a pun

You pull your knife from its sheath, and get down the the grisly work of butchering. You hack off the pokemon's head, planning to harvest the skull and spikes. The brain can also be used for curing leather, so that's a bonus.

Rosalia takes some of the skin off its tail, the blue contrasting brightly with the grey scales.

Pushing down the urge to vomit, you walk back to the melting Rampardos. Oh, Arceus, it's worse. It's much, much worse. The bone has begun to be eaten away, steaming slightly in the summer air. The stench of digesting meat, expired animal, and the fishy smell of the Kabuto mix together in the heat, theatening to drive you away.

You pull a hooked branch from the nearby wreckage, then quickly add a point to it. Stabbing a piece of unoccupied meat, you drag it through the puddle to your pan. Arceus, that smell is never going to wash off.

Holding the pan out, you place the branch in front of the nearest Kabuto. Dragging it back towards you, you contemplate the life choices that led up to this.

Turning the stick, you wiggle the point under the pokemon's brown shell. Deftly, you flip the Pokemon onto its back and slide it onto your pan.

A sudden stream of acid shoots from the pokemon's mouth, the green liquid sailing over your shoulder. The tree it hits burns and hisses, a deep scar cut into the wood.

Okay, nice creepy bug Pokemon that shoots acid. Not gonna hurt ya. Unless you pull that acid shit again. Then you're gettin' the boot.

Pulling a berry from your pouch, you crush it between your fingers. The resultant mush is thrown at the Pokemon in the pan, staining the pages of its lungsi have no idea if that's the right word for parts of book lungs green.

A ball of dirt begins to gather between its mouth parts, about the size and shape of a large berry. Cocking your head to the side, you look down at the Pokemon. What in the name of the mighty Onion Fairy is it doing?

The ball hits you in the chest with the force of a punch, sending you back a step. Mud slides down your torso. You hope its mud.

"You're getting the fucking boot."

>>
>>42641060
Raising a Pokemon from an egg is much easier than a grown one.

If you guys get a Tyrunt egg, it'll imprint on you automatically. You'll still have to get it to listen to you, but the DC's are much lower than if you found a wild one.

I designed Kabuto not really expecting people to try to catch it, and fluffed it in the same manner. In the show, they're shown to be territorial, but I decided they will converge on prey when there's enough to go around. The Kabutops is most often their mother, and when low level, they work together to defeat much stronger Pokemon. The only reason you didn't get swarmed was because the other Kabuto were occupied by food, and we're far enough away that they couldn't really see you. They expect a couple to die whenever they go on land, either from suffocation or from their prey's attacks.

Also, does anyone know if Kabuto means something in Japanese? It keeps pulling up directions to sushi places when I google it.
