So, news!

Well, first off, sorry about last weekend. No real excuse there, other than me desperately needing new boots (Which I didn't get, because all of the ones they had had laces) and pants (Which I couldn't find in town). I can't promise we'll run long to make up for it or anything, but we'll see, I've got a good handle on when I can leave for class and still make it on time.

You'd decided to get the girls up around noon, letting them sleep a bit more than they probably needed just to help make up for the travel whiplash- you know how bad jet lag can be. No one else had been in the apartment when you did, though as you get back in, the three witches, followed by Wendy, walk in carrying grocery bags. Apparently, by some unspoken word, your rooms have become the informal gathering place. You're mostly ok with it, though you figure if it starts to be a problem you can say something.

They see you and the two girls as you leave their room, carrying Stasya and Lilya's shoes with the two girls following you. "So he finally decides to join us." Katya quips, smirking at you. You'd have had a comeback, but the presence of the girls kinda robs you of it, so you just shrug.

"Jet lag" you offer up as an excuse- a weak one, you know, but an excuse all the same. She grins at you, knowing the truth of it- you needed a nap.

"Want to just take it easy today, then?" Ice asks, nodding at Wendy as she takes several bags into the kitchen from by the door and starts putting the food away.

You shrug. "Not much going on, is there?"

"Not really." She confirms. "At least not for you. I was thinking of going to the embassy to announce' a-anounce-"

"To be telling the American covens she is carrying your child." Katya fills in as Ice dissolves into a stuttering mess. "Wendy or I will be going with her."

You nod. "What about you, Rachel?" You ask, looking over at the brown-haired witch, who's busily rummaging through a bag, looking for- and finding- a trio of candy bars. She unwraps one and starts eating it, while handing the other two to the girls, both of whom look at the candy, then at you.

"Not till after lunch, girls." You say. Slider shrugs.

"Probably going to stop by the base, make sure nothing's come up, and check up on everyone." She says. "Probably going to be boring, unless I can steal some flight time."

"What about you Frank?" Ice asks, having recovered.

[x] We'll go with Rachel, I haven't seen Merlin in a while.

"I think we'll go along with Rachel." You say, after a second. "We haven't seen Merlin in a while, and maybe we'll be able to get some flight time."

She nods. "Well, we won't be leaving for a little while yet, but we'll see you when you get back."

You nod, watching as the girls put on their shoes and stand up, their candy bars deposited back in their room for safekeeping. "Ready to go?" You ask, and they both nod, following you and Slider out into the drive, where your vehicle waits- in this case, a sedan the house keeps on hand for residents. You slip into the driver's seat before Rachel can and head out, putting effort into driving on the correct side of the road- be damned stupid to die in a car wreck after all you've gotten through.

About an hour later you pull up to the gate at RAF Northolt, showing your IDs at the gate and being waived through by the British MP on duty there with a smart salute.

Slider has to point you towards the building housing most of the rest of the squadron, where a corporal on duty salutes when you show him your ID. "VF three?" He asks. "Oh, US Navy. Right, sorry sir. Most of them signed out already, I think."

"Where to?" Rachel asks.

He shrugs. "Nonspecific pass, ma'am, they could be anywhere in London."

"Hmm. What about lieutenant senior grade Samantha Wells?" she says. "She'd said something about coming here-"

"Off in hangar six, ma'am." He says, checking through his logs. "She's with a- ah. Uh, sho... sa? Sakamoto."

"Sounds about right." Rachel says, looking over at you. "Frank, if you just wanna go catch up with them, I've got to stop by the admin center and see if there's any update to our orders, then I'll come over."

[x] Sounds like a plan, we'll meet you there.

"Yeah, that sounds like a plan." You say, nodding. "We'll see you there."

The four of you split up after stepping out of the building, where you manage to flag down a ride to the hangar. Inside, a pair of the XFA-27s sit alongside a trio of tomcats, their age apparent by their mismatched skin panels and the heat discoloration around their afterburner petals.

Surprisingly, Merlin and Kimiko are just standing on the concrete floor, chatting away- both of them wearing the abbreviated flight suit of witches and carrying flight bags. Neither of them has noticed you yet, though.

[x] Hey Merlin. Going for a flight?

You think about acting hurt or disappointed she didn't call you- after all, you can't imagine her flying without you- but squelch it and instead free your hand from Stasya to wave. "Hey Merlin!" You call, causing her to squeak in surprise as she snaps her head around to look over at you. "Going for a flight?"

She runs over and practically slams into your midsection with a hug. "Frank!" She yells, muffled as it is by your stomach. She holds it for a second, then lets go, hugging both Stasya and Lilya as well. You laugh.

"Good to see you too, Merlin. How's things?" You ask, nodding at Stasya and Lilya, who wander off to the pair of -27s sitting in the hangar.

"Good!" She says. "Kimiko and I just came down to- uh." She looks up at you sheepishly, pausing. "We've been sneaking flights on the F-14s here."

You look over at Kimiko, who nods. "I was trained on them in the academy."

You quirk an eyebrow- being an actual trained pilot is actually pretty rare among witches. "How many hours?"

"No more than forty." She says. "Maybe ten of that solo."

"So, what?" You ask. "You two just go up and tool around in a range for a while, then head home?"

Merlin nods. "I've been practicing my emergency procedures and management." She says, pointing at one of the tomcats. "They're a lot like our jet, except they're older and there's no magic suite in them."

1/2
>>
You nod, looking over at the F-14 in question. The lack of canards marks it as an A or a B model, though you can't tell witch. they're both marked in faded squadron insignia for the east coast reserve squadron- probably sent over at the start of hostilities, and since retired as war weary hacks when the E models started coming in.

"Hear anything about the Wyvern yet?" You ask- last you'd heard, it was being serviced in a depot up north. Merlin nods.

"She's at RAF Lakenheath right now." She says. "She's cleared for flight, but they don't have a crew that can do a maintenance test flight."

[x] How long till they turn up a crew?

For a while, you consider asking if you can just go up yourself to take care of it- it is your fighter, afterall, and no one knows it better than you do. Still, you've got too much to do here, and unfortunately, that's got to take priority. "How long till they can turn up a crew?" You ask.

She shakes her head. "I'm not sure. A few weeks, at least. They won't be able to test it with VDNI without us, though."

You nod. "Yeah, I know. Not like they need us right now anyway, so we might as well enjoy ourselves."

Merlin doesn't rise to the obvious- that for the both of you, flying is enjoyable- and instead nods, then looks at her watch. "Kimiko and I have to go, Frank." SHe says. "Our flight is only filed till sixteen, that's only four hours if we were taking off now."

"Right. take care, kiddo." You say, calling the girls over so they can give Merlin a goodbye hug. The three of you then head for the end of the flight line, where you watch Kimko roll the tomcat out from the hangar and onto the runway, pausing to let an incoming tornado land before taking off, her climb out fairly conventional- no afterburners on a ballistic climb.

"Who's that?" Slider asks, walking over to join you as the tomcat shrinks into the distance.

"Merlin and Kimiko." You say, picking up Stasya and letting her perch on your shoulders. "Kimiko's a rated pilot."

1/3
>>
"Huh." Slider responds. "Well, nothing new for us. Looks like your buddy Putin is pushing into Moscow already, and there's reports of fighting around Megalith. The UN's put the arkbird in an orbit nearby to shoot down anything 'renegade elements', unquote, launch."

"And we're ordered to standby pending a peace treaty?" You ask.

She nods. "Anything they're telling us is already in the news anyway. The peace delegations are hammering it all out in Geneva, but it's sounding like this is all gonna be over inside a month."

"Wow." You say, thinking about it- it seems kind of surreal. "So what about drawdowns?"

She shakes her head. "Nothing yet. Probably won't be till the peace treaty is in place, but you can bet once Putin's taken over we'll be sent home."

"Wow. And what about mars?"

She sighs. "Still dead. Frank, I think he was just saying that to try and convince you to help him convince everyone else he was on the level."

"You're not the first person to say that to me." You point out. "I don't see it. Hell, he had plenty of argument for us without it-"

"Yeah, but he knew we were going to raise a stink about all that shit they did to witches if he didn't have some kinda cover." She retorts. "Besides, he knew NATO was going to go bugshit about all the witches they took from Iceland."

"What's the word on them, anyway?" You ask.

"They're called the Valkyrie battalion." She says. "And they're fighting for him against the loyalists. We want 'em repatriated, Putin's guys don't want to let them go."

2/3
>>
"At all?" You ask, and she shrugs again.

"Who knows. Plus there's Stasya and Lilya and Anya."

"They're staying with me." You respond reflexively. "That's non-negotiable."

"I know, no need to snap." She responds. "I said that wrong. I mean the shit they did to them, it's a sticking point. We want the assholes in charge and the worst of them to stand trial, the reds are saying that the program director is already missing and that several others are dead or missing."

"They’re probably lying through their teeth." You respond, almost a snarl.

She nods. "Probably, but that's not our problem."

You sigh and nod, giving Lilya's hand a reassuring squeeze.

"So any news from California?" Slider asks, changing the subject.

"Nothing yet. I think she's liking it, the colonel is probably spoiling the hell out of her." You say with a smile. "She's not going to want to leave when we get back."

Slider nods. "I wouldn't mind having a place like that, out in the country." She says, looking back out over the runway. "Maybe not California, but someplace away from people. Wyoming, Montana, someplace like that."

Its a pretty big lie that can be easily checked out (and in this case, already dismissed) by other parties. So well, i think at least something other than outright lie is happening here. Misinterpretation from Putin side at very least.

>Humanity has taken to the stars to solve the overpopulation problem, colonising most of the solar system and beginning preparations for going beyond.
>The first and largest of the colonies, Mars, revolts against unfair taxation, mineral rights disputes and lack of representation in the Earth-centred government.
>Frustrated by Earth's refusal to recognise their recent referendum, the Martians declare their independence and their intent to defend it by force if need be. Earth government declares that no secession is allowed and begins mobilisation.
>Mars strikes first, attempting to knock out/commandeer Earth's fleet in a daring raid on their lunar staging area.
>Granddaughter Bishop is currently a space cadet on the Moon who jumps into the cockpit of a brand new experimental space fighter to protect it from being destroyed by Martian commandos.

[x] Yeah, someplace like that would be great.

You nod. "Yeah, someplace like that would be great."

"Probably have to keep two houses." She muses. "Ice won't leave the navy just because the war's over and she's a mother."

"Yeah, probably not. And I don't think Katya will, either." You agree.

"Probably not, no. She's not bad people, but she's... strange about that." She says. "I don't know. I think I'm done with it after this is all over, though."

You nod. Earlier, you'd have not been as sure, but occasionally you wake up, images of mushroom clouds in your dreams.

"So, why Wyoming?" You ask.

She shrugs. "Maybe not there, but somewhere like it, I think. Maybe Alaska. Just someplace where there's not people all over, you know?"

You nod. It's not too often she's like this, and instead of ruining the moment with a joke, you're happy to let it live out it's time.

"We'll start looking at an acreage when we get back, I guess." You say. "Though I imagine we'll have some work to do for a couple months when we're sent home."

She nods. "Yeah, probably. And a lot of it will depend on how many witches they let out with drawdowns, no way they'll let us all go just like that."

You nod, and the four of you stand in silence for a few minutes.

It's interrupted by the sounds of a vehicle cutting across the base, flashing lights on top marking it as an MP humvee. You watch it approach with curiosity and resignation- shit like this always seems to come at the worst time.

It skids to a stop and two uniformed MPs, both in the British DPM step out. "Lieutenant commander Bishop?" One asks.

You nod- you're pretty distinctive with both Stasya and Lilya with you.

"Sir, I'm Leftenant Green. There's been an incident, we're ordered to get you to RAF Middenhall as soon as possible, sir." He says, saluting.

"What kind of incident?" You ask, without moving.

"I wasn't informed, sir. My orders were quite specific though."

"I'm his Superior." Slider says, stepping away from the fence. "Let me see the orders."

The leftennant pulls out a sheet of folded papers and Slider scans them quickly. "Shit, this is from the secdef himself." She says, awed. "Flight briefing at Middenhall?"

He shrugs again. "Ma'am, I only have my orders."

"Fine. we're coming with. Frank, get in." She says, knowing there's no way you'd agree to letting the girls stay- and knowing they wouldn't agree to be left.

The MPs drive the Humvee to a waiting Lynx helicopter, it's blades already turning as the door slides open- and Brigitte's face, all business, greets you. You note she's armed and armored this time, a pair of light strikers hanging off her legs. "Baron." She greets.

"Brigitte." You respond, jumping in the chopper last and slipping on the offered headset. "What's this about?"

"Don nobody be tellin me." She says. "Dey only be sayin it be serious an dat we be needin ta collect ya."

"Great. How long's the flight?"

"It be sixty mile, give or take." She responds. "Less dan tirty minute." She motions at you, and you lean in- she touches her forehead to yours.

"Dis sound like a bad one, Baron." Is all she says before pulling away.

It's the first time you've ever seen fear in her eyes.

And that's it for the night!

Assuming everything goes according to plan (HAH) we'll be shooting for 1700 EST Sunday as our regular run time till the end of the quest.

And I'd like to say, now, that as much as I want to run a sequel, given school and the prospect of picking up in the industry pretty quickly once I'm certified, I'm not really sure I'll be able to devote the time and effort to it I really want to- I don't think anyone would disagree when I say the quest has suffered from school pretty noticeably. We'll see, but right now it's going to be largely dependant on what I've got going on and what kind of work I'm really looking at on the other side, you know? That said, however, I'm also talking to school about a work-study, which would largely free up my weekday nights, so we might be able to work something out there.

Anyway, that's all I've got for you guys. So, as always, hope you guys enjoyed the run, and we'll be back next week for our (hopefully) regular run on Sunday! Till then guys, cheers!

I had fun being all family man mode. Time to wreck stuff now. We might need Merlin for that though unless it's a sudden Konny infestation.

What is Frank going to do if not be a Navy pilot?

This has really happened a lot, ending a thread in a helicopter. I mean we're a fighter pilot not fuckin' Air Assault but I'm pretty sure we've spent just as much time in helo's as we have in our bird in this last part of the quest. This isn't so much a complaint as it is more amusing.

Anna enters a WELDING PLANES WITH MAGIC competition?

the daughteru generation VS ISIS?

also just set up quest time when you can, don't have to do it consistently every week anymore, now that you are no longer a NEET.

I think Anna will just stick to prop plans and not fight anymore. Not even sure she wants to enter witch Academy though Frank may reccomend it for her to try.

Anya and Katya will probably go to witch academy too.

and the political situation is different in SW universe.
