Our story begins now.
>>
You are Kuai Liang, leader of the new Lin Kuei. When you refused to take part in the Cyber Initiative, the new plan from the former Grandmaster Oniro to turn all Lin Kuei warriors into cyborgs, you were hunted down and captured. They began replacing parts of your body with cybernetic augmentations, but you were rescued before the task could be completed by your friends, Smoke and Akayama Kaito.

Alongside Kaito, you later ventured into the Outworld lands of Lost Edenia and reclaimed a powerful suit of armor that belonged to your people, the cryomancers. Since then, you helped defend Earth from the invasion of Shao Kahn's forces and have established a new Lin Kuei.

Your temple in Arctika was just attacked by your dead brother, the former Sub-Zero, now turned wraith of the Netherrealm and servant of the Brotherhood of Shadow, Noob Saibot. In the attack, Noob Saibot overpowered you and was about to deal a killing blow, when your oldest friend Smoke leapt in front of the blade.

The intervention of Kitana, Jade and Mileena allowed you to turn the tide of the battle, but Smoke was rapidly dying. Trapping Noob Saibot in a prison of ice, you left abord Shang Tsung's Nethership alongside Sareena and Jade to a place that Sareena knows which she says contains a grotto of healing water.

You hope she is right.

The Nethership is engulfed in fog as it transports itself across the realms. The magic of the ship allows it to travel to any body of water large enough to contain it in any realm, provided the one supplying the power knows where it is. As the ship glides across the waters between the realms, you kneel down next to your dying friend, Smoke.

Noob Saibot's scythe impaled him cleanly through the chest. He is holding on, but he has perhaps only moments to live. His grey eyes are wide and panicked as he looks around. Jade kneels next to him as well, holding his hand tightly, doing what she can to stem the bleeding. You place your hand on his chest gently and apply a very thin layer of ice on the wound, both on his chest and back, that stops it for the moment, but it will not sustain him for long.

Sareena is nearby, powering the ship and guiding the enchantment towards the healing grotto. After a few agonizing moments, the fog around the ship disperses. You are in a cave; sunlight streams in from a hole in the ceiling. The ship is resting in a large body of water that is just wide enough to contain it. The sudden appearance of the ship causes the grotto to overflow somewhat.

You kneel down and pick up Smoke, heading to the edge of the ship. Sareena and Jade look on as you prepare to leap over the edge.

"Wait!" Sareena says. "The pool does more than heal. It grants visions as well. Just be prepared."

You nod and dive off, taking him into the water.

The weight from your cybernetic attachments and armor causes you to sink to the bottom as you hold onto your friend. His eyes are wide as the ice on his chest melts from the warm water. You watch as the wound on his chest, from which seeps blood, begins to seal and the blood it is leaking is sucked back into his body. He convulses somewhat.

Just then, you are granted a vision from the pool. You see a city in Japan covered in shadow, for above it is a legion of flying warships. Aboard these ships are cyborgs, innumerable, recruited or cloned in massive vats and then augmented. They take control of all of Japan.

And at the head of this terrible new force is Sektor, the son of the Grandmaster of the old Lin Kuei, wielding the Dragon Amulet, which has granted him the power to create an army of cyborgs and destroy all of his enemies.

This force, Sektor's new clan, will be called the Tekunin.

>>
>>42731816

As the vision fades, you are suddenly beset by a terrible pain. You let go of Smoke, who drifts away to the top of the pool as your body is wracked by a horrific sensation, as though it is being torn apart.

You look at your hand and watch as implanted tubes and metal augmentations burrow their way out of your skin. You tear off your helmet as your jaw, the entirety of which was removed and replaced by a metal rebreather, is then torn off.

Every augmentation in your body is falling off or being torn out and your blood, which ran blue due to the coolant which pumped through your body, drains out.

And new flesh begins to grow in their place. Organs become flesh once more, your skin becomes normal, your head once more has hair, your jaw returns and your blood is once more red. Your body aches and twitches as the painful transformation completes itself, but the healing water soon makes all the pain go away.

You are now exactly what you were before the Cyber Initiative got its hands on you: fully human. Technically, a human/cryomancer hybrid, but you understand the concept.

Sareena dives into the water and picks you up, grabbing your helmet. She takes your barely-conscious body to the shore and hefts you up onto the land alongside Smoke.

Both of you lay breathing as Sareena inspects you, gasping at the visage of your face. Your skin is no longer completely white and pale, but healthy. She runs her fingers through your dark hair and gently touches your cheek.

You awaken with a start, causing her to let go.

"This is the Wellspring of Shun-Kuto, a great warrior and philosopher who lived in a realm that was absorbed by Outworld in a time lost to history. He poured all of his spirit and magic into this pool, keeping it eternally refreshed. It has the power to heal the body, calm the spirit and, if used properly, can allow one to see visions of the future."

Those are all things that Sub-Zero could use at the moment. We want him to receive the benefits of the pool as well.

You look at the demon assassin and ask, "Sareena... What just happened?"

"You're... you again," she says with a smile. She reaches out for your hand and picks it up. "Do you feel this?"

Her hand is warm. Before, your arms were almost constantly frozen, robbing you of any feeling or sensation. "The magic of the pool... It must have sensed by desire to rid myself of the cyber components in my body..."

You shake yourself out of the stupor of your newly regrown flesh and focus your attention back onto Smoke. He is breathing, but unconscious. His chest is sealed; there is a hole in his grey ninja outfit but the flesh beneath it is completely healed.

Jade leaps from the ship and onto the shore to kneel next to him. "The magic worked?" she asks. You both nod at her as you reach over and gently stir him.

He's still unconscious. "Is he alright?"

"Asleep, for now," a voice emerges from the shadows. All three of you stand up and turn to face the new foe. A man, clad in the garb of a pink floral ninja, walks out of a nearby collection of vines and plants.

"Your friend is very much alive," he says. "But he needs his rest."

"Who are you?" you demands.

"I am Phlox, guardian of the Wellspring of Shun-Kuto, and I do not take kindly to those who intrude on my domain. I recognize you," he looks at Sareena, "but I know not any of your companions."

"Phlox, we had no choice, a man was dying. He is a noble warrior, just like these other two are. This is Jade, an edenian who fought against the oppression of Outworld's Emperor, and Sub-Zero, Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei and a defender of the realm of Earth. The injured one is Smoke, Sub-Zero's friend."

Phlox listens to her, waiting for her to finish. "Normally, I allow use of this pool only through kombat. But that is before it is used. Never before has a ship transported into my pool... You caused much of the sacred water to drain out and be wasted."

You look to the others and hold up a hand as you step forth to accept Phlox's challenge. "I am sorry that the fatal nature of my ally's wounds necessitated our arrival," you say to him. "I mean no disrespect to you or these grounds. If I must face you in kombat, then I shall do so honorably."

"Your words carry great weight, and I am grateful for them," Phlox says with a bow. "I shall grant you a warrior's death if you fall."

You clench your new hands, feeling the blood flowing through your body once more. It is time to grow reacquainted with it. "I assure you that I will not."

You and Phlox square away with each other and prepare to fight.

So is Subby stronger or weaker without the Cyberizations?
>>
>>42732320
I think that with the cyberizations, a warrior would have a fixed strength.
Without the cyberizations, a Cryomancer's strength relies on his inner pure power, which can be more or less depending on the skill, age, and the Cryomancer himself.

I'd say since he has his special power armor, he is just as strong. He could grow further with time now he is organic, and not machine.

You quickly gather your hands together and concentrate your inner power to create a ball of ice before hurling it towards your opponent. The pink ninja turns to the side, dodging the attack, which hits a nearby wall and freezes part of it. He then summons a vine-like whip and whips at you with it, but you too dodge his attack.

>>42732315

As he retracts his whip, you slide forward, creating a trail of ice behind you as you dash towards your opponent, sliding underneath his legs and tripping him. As he falls behind you, you turn and blast him with ice, freezing him in place. You stop sliding and turn to kick him before following up with a punch combo.

He manages to escape by turning into a series of flower petals, which flow away on a gust of wind across the area. He reforms from them and shakes his head.

"You wield the power of frost," he says. "I respect all who wield a force of nature, but you should know that even as the winter freezes plants and flowers, they always return to bloom in the spring."

"Poetic," you reply. "But that doesn't make winter any less deadly."

>>42732320

You attempt to freeze him again, but he conjures forth several vines from the ground behind you that grab your legs and trip you. He then flips forwards and slams his legs onto your back before rolling backwards.

You get back up and try to block his next attack, but he kicks your face and sends you back up against a wall. You reach up to your nose and feel the blood dripping from it. Despite the pain, it is a welcome sensation after your torment with the cybernetic augmentations.

You concentrate your cryomancer energies and create a sword of ice. Your ancient armor lends its enchanted might to the creation of the blade, allowing you to conjure one that is larger than you could without it. You charge at him but he creates another vine whip and trips your feet with it. He then attacks you while you are down, striking you with the whip again and again as you roll away and try to get up onto your feet. He summons roots from the floor that bind you in place as he prepares to attack again.

>>42732527

Using your ice blade, you cut your way out of the roots and blast yourself back up onto your feet with a flurry of cold wind behind your back. You charge at Phlox and kick him high, hitting his chest and making him stumble backwards, and as you right yourself you bring the ice blade down upon him, shattering it as you slice his chest. You follow up with two dragon palm strikes to his midsection, knocking him down onto the ground.

Two vines from the ceiling of the cave come down and pick him up onto his feet. He then curls both fists and grows a series of thorns on them that drip with venom. He prepares himself for his next attack.

>>42732690

As he gets back up, you use your cryomancer shaping abilities to create a shield and you charge at him with it. He holds up his hands and blocks it, his forearms absorbing the hit as the shield cracks and breaks, destroying the thorns on his arms.

>>42732842

As you stumble forward, you collect ice energy in both hands before turning and blasting him with it, freezing him again. You then kick him, shattering the ice before you follow it up with a series of punches and kicks.

You both back away from each other, tired and panting.

>>42732839

"It seems we are at an impasse," you say. "Winter may chill, and Spring may thaw, but neither truly can defeat the other. The cycle of nature continues on in balance. Our fight will know no end."

Phlox listens to your words. "Very wisely spoken," he concedes before standing straight and bowing. "You are a very worthy opponent. Certainly worthy of using the wellspring. I see no need for us to continue."

You bow to him as well. "Will you be able to regain the lost water?"

"In time, the wellspring will fill once more. Slowly, it will return to its natural state."

Nearby, Sareena and Jade help Smoke to his feet as he groans. You turn your head and run over to your friend.

"Kuai... You are..."

"Human once more," you say with a smile. "And you, my friend, are alive."

He slowly shakes his head. "No... No, I am not alive like you are. I... I saw something in that pool."

"A vision," Phlox tells him.

"My true name... is Tomas Vrbada. I was sacrificed as a child to a demon, burned alive by a cult. I returned to life as a creature of smoke... an enenra, and I killed them all." He closes his eyes. "I'm a monster."

"Smoke..." you say, grabbing his shoulder gently. "It does not matter what you are, because you are my friend and my brother no matter what."
>>
>>42733166

He slowly nods. "I always wanted to know what I was inside, but..."

Sareena smiles. "I, too, am a demon, Tomas. You needn't worry about anything. You are still a mortal and free to choose your own destiny."

"I just always thought I was a man," he admits. "Not something else entirely."

Jade adds, "What you are does not change who you are."

The grey ninja nods. "Thank you all. For your words, and bringing me back, and giving me the answers I have sought my entire life."

"No, brother," you say to him, "thank you for your loyalty. I would never have asked you to leap in front of Noob Saibot's attack like you did."

Smoke's eyes narrow. "We need to stop him, then."

"I agree. This vision is not of something that has already passed, but may yet come to be. We must stop it from happening."

You turn to look at Sareena. "What about you? Did you experience anything?"

"I was here once before, with Kaito," she says. "I experienced a vision then, but not now."

"What was it?"

She turns her eyes aside. "Truthfully... I do not fully understand it. I have seen it few times in my dreams since, always the same. A hundred great warriors battling in a canyon under a red sky. A pyramid rises and they all fight to reach a flame at the top... A monster of fire in those flames turns its eyes upon me and then I wake up."

"Strange..." You turn to Jade and Phlox. "Does this mean anything to either of you?"

Jade shakes her head and Phlox says, "The wellspring grants visions, but it is not my place to interoperate them. They can be of what was, what is and what may be."

You reflect on this for a moment when Jade suddenly gets your attention. "The boat!"

You turn and see the boat beginning to fog up, vanishing!

A woman is at the helm, powering it! An assassin of the Brotherhood of Shadow!

You raise your hands and apply another layer of frost to Ashrah's frozen prison, ensuring that she will stay out of trouble--for now. The ship quickly becomes entirely encased in fog and travels across the realms.

"Where do you think she intended to go? Back to the temple?" Smoke asks.

"No," you shake your head. "She wouldn't go back just to find more enemies."

"Then where?" the grey ninja asks.

"If I were to wager, the Netherrealm," Sareena grimly replies.

Around you, the swirling fog gives way to reveal a landscape of fire, lava, ash-blackened mountains and a bleak, deathly sky. The Netherrealm stretches out before you in all directions as the nethership rides down a sea of souls alongside rivers of molten lava.

"I hate being right," Sareena says.

"We need to leave this place immediately," Smoke suggests.

"What in the Elder Gods is that?" Jade asks, pointing ahead of the vessel.

You turn towards the front of the ship and look ahead of you. There is a spire rising high up, obsidian black and covered in spikes and skulls, around which swirl hordes of gargoyle-like demons and burning lost souls.

"The spire of Shinnok..." Sareena whispers.

"I think we need to leave," you agree with Smoke.

Sareena begins preparations to leave immediately when suddenly the boat rocks, as if something had hit it.

You look over the side but see nothing in the black water aside from souls of the tormented and the damned.

"Above!" Smoke shouts as suddenly a wing of flying demons take sight of you and swoop down.

You prepare to defend your ship while Sareena begins the necessary incantations. You must keep them away from her until she finishes her work!

Taruna

-Travelled with Kaito for the longest over all
-Apparently hovering at about a 9 out of 10 on the Yandere Scale
-Gifted sorceress
- Apparently refuses to give up until she finds a way to bring Kaito back to her.
-Kaito was never able to really be there like she wanted, at all really, despite caring a great deal for her.
-Lost her way super hard due to grief and desperation despite having a couple centuries on Kaito. Might just be because she's not really been in a situation for a long while where she was really on her own, even as a slave, she had duties and things to protect.

Mileena
-Given that in this timeline Kaito is the one that woke her up, it's not a stretch to say he knew her for her entire conscious existence until Crimson Thunder possessed him.
-It's still moderately unclear if she ever realized the first two people she ever actually met were Kaito and Taruna in disguise.
-This may effectively make Kaito her equivalent of a childhood friend, whatever that's worth. Or the closest thing she has to one.
-Currently at about a 1 or 2 on the Yandere Scale due to finding acceptance in Edenia
- Aided in Shao Khan's defeat; turning her back on everything she believed, knew and from her perspective was pretty much explicitly for Kaito.
-Way less awful than other timelines Mileenas
-Went the farthest with her if we don't count Khameleon as Kitana trying to murder him. Second if we do.
-Likes girls, apparently, this might make Kaito the exception as opposed to Tanya being the exception.
-Is FINALLY getting along with Kitana, which was part of why Kaito stopped them from killing each other in the first place.
-Rain is apparently trying to get with her now, if Kaito knows what Kitana's been up to then the timing is suspicious and kinda angering even if he doesn't know about Rain trying to have him killed. I mean Mileena and Kitana are both Kaito's friends.

You tell me.

>>
>>42735608
Sorry that it's a little jumbled, I repurposed this from another thing I had of characters known, what was known and how long Kaito knew them for.

For instance, Mileena is right after Turana on the list because the difference is about 2 days if that.
Started as a list of women Kaito knew.
After I included Rain under the heading of "Worst Tsundere" as a joke...I started redoing it and just adding everyone in.
It's not done yet. However, it should be once the next Kaito thread hits bump limit.

Clasping your hands together, you use a technique you once saw your brother use, where you create an ever-expanding orb of freezing energy around you. Through the use of your cryomancer armor, you can master it to the point where you choose who gets frozen--in this case, not your allies.

You open your palms as you throw your arms out wide, creating a massive wave of cryomantic energy that freezes the oncoming horde of demons, all of who fall frozen into the lake of souls.

Smoke applauds your efforts as Sareena finishes the incantation. The boat suddenly rocks again, as though something had hit it.

Suddenly, a massive skeletal hand emerges from the water, grabbing hold of the boat. Everyone shouts and falls as it is dragged away, towards the shore. The massive skeleton below the water emerges from the stream of souls, opening its gigantic mouth and letting out a rattling scream. It reaches onto the boat and wraps a giant boney hand around Sareena, lifting her up. She struggles against it, but its strength is great.

It is a Gashadokuro, and it continues to shake the boat as the fog begins to form around it. If the boat is transported while the monster is holding onto it, you'll take it directly to the Lin Kuei temple!

You shout and point both hands up at the Gashadokuro's wrist and blast it with ice, freezing the joint. You then conjure a sledgehammer made out of ice and toss it to Smoke, who catches it and teleports in a wave of vaporous mist up to the wrist and brings it down upon it, shattering the joint completely. The hand, with Sareena in it, falls and lets go of her.

You dash across the deck, propelled by your ice slide, and catch her in your arms. She looks up at you and smiles, but the moment is quickly ruined by the shrieking Gashadokuro as it brings its other hand down upon the deck. Jade leaps up onto the skeleton's hand and up its forearm, throwing her bladed boomerang at its neck. It takes a chip off of it but doesn't stop it from continuing to shake the ship.

Smoke lands nearby and asks you for a plan. The ship's transportation is nearly complete.

The same as before, this time on the other arm. You freeze the joint at the elbow, allowing Jade to leap up into the air and bring her staff down on it, shattering the ice with a resounding smash, making the metal bo hum with the force of the blow.

Freeeeeezing vibrations

The Gashadokuro's right arm falls off at the elbow joint and it screams again. Smoke teleports high above it and dropkicks its forehead, cracking it somewhat. The monster falls back into the sea of souls and vanishes below the black surface.

You set Sareena down, but she suddenly shivers. "Am I too cold?" you joke.

She looks up at you. "No... I feel a presence I have not felt since... Oh, no..."

Her skin pales somewhat as the ship stops moving and the fog disperses, but you are still in the Netherrealm. "What's going on?" you ask. "Why is the ship not moving?"

A voice echoes throughout all of your ears, menacing and venomous. "Nothing happens in my realm unless I allow it, mortal."

The boat comes to a complete stop as the spell is reversed. Two massive skeletal hands emerge from the water in front of the ship. They are wrapped around something. They open and spread out like skeletal flower petals blooming to reveal a white-skinned figure glad in red, gold and dark blue standing in their palms. He looks down upon you with glowing white eyes. Upon his belt is a golden amulet with a green gem set within its circle.

"Shinnok," Sareena breathes. "Oh, no, no, no..."

"Yes, child," Shinnok says, his voice regal and malevolent. "And I have come for what is rightly mine."

Smoke and Jade both prepare to do battle, but with a flick of his hand, two more Gashadokuros rise from the water. They are still, completely under the control of the master of this realm, but could attack in an instant.

"Enough of your foolish hope of surviving through conflict. You are in my domain, you insignificant insects. But I am nothing if not a hospitable host..."

The skeletal arms holding him lower him to the front of the ship. He steps off and onto the wood. All four of you stand close as he approaches. "Now then, to business... I sent my Brotherhood of Shadow to your home to murder Sareena. As a traitor to my cult, she cannot be allowed to live. The edenians foiled that plot, and their retribution will come in time... As will all of yours."

He takes hold of his amulet and points it at all four of you. "I make you an offer, cold mortal. Return to me my wraith, Noob Saibot, or give me the traitor whore-demon who walks among you. If you choose neither, I destroy all of you with but a single thought, and do not doubt for a moment that I cannot."

Shinnok smiles as he holds his amulet. "The choice is yours, mortal. I advise you to choose wisely. Bring my wraith back to me, and you can be assured that I will send him again to kill her. But perhaps I will wait until you are at your weakest, when there is no hope of victory. Either way... you eventually will serve me, just as your brother does."

You narrow your eyes and step forth, but Sareena grabs your arm and holds you back. She looks at you with painful determination in her eyes. "I will go," she says in a low voice. "Let them have what they want."

"No," you urge her. "I can't just hand you over to that man."

"I am no man," Shinnok says. "You speak to an Elder God. Know your place."

You close your eyes as you consider your options. You know you could forsake her, give her up to be tortured and horrifically killed, but your morality would never allow it. You cannot just abandon her after all she has done...

You narrow your eyes as you look at the Amulet. Long ago, your brother once told you of his travels into the Netherrealm and how he defeated Shinnok--by robbing him of his amulet after freezing him. Perhaps you can do the same...

"And how do I know you'll keep your word?"

"I've given you no word to keep," he replies. "I've given you a choice, something I don't need to grant at all. I could destroy you with a mere thought, but it takes reach beyond the confines of my realm to retrieve my wraith. Deliver him to me, and I can return to my own affairs."

"And how would I do this, exactly?" you say.

"With your boat, of course," he says.

"So you would just let us leave on the condition of us returning?"

He laughs. "I am glad you have finally reached that conclusion, mortal. You are rather slow-witted. Of course I would not merely let you leave, and now you have another choice."

With but a thought, he uses the power of his amulet to bind Jade and Smoke in magical bonds. He commands the two massive skeletons to reach out and grab them and hold them aloft. "JADE! SMOKE!" you shout.

Shinnok smiles. "You will choose one of them to leave with me, as insurance of your return."

"You bastard!" you shout, preparing an iceball. Before you can even put your hands together, the Elder God, who is already pointing his amulet at you, in the span of a blink of an eye, blasts you with a wave of fiery energy. You are knocked across the deck by a force stronger than anything that has ever hit you before and nearly knocked unconscious.

"Perhaps you thought I would make the mistakes on you that I made against your elder brother. It is true what he has told me: you are the lesser Sub-Zero." He laughs at your weakness.

Sareena runs to your side and helps you to a sitting position. Shinnok cackles as he commands the two Gashadokuros to squeeze their captives, causing them both to cry out in pain.
>>
>>42737701

"I could make their deaths slow," he taunts. "The Gashadokuros enjoy biting the heads off of their prey and drinking the blood. And they are always so hungry..."

He accentuates his point by making them slam their massive jaws open and closed. "Now then... You will take your boat and only one of your other allies back with you. You will bring Noob Saibot back to the Netherrealm, here to my spire, and release him to me. I will then return to you the ally of your choice. Of course, you could give me Sareena now... And spare your friends the torment I will lavish upon them during the time it takes you to return."

Both Smoke and Jade attempt to talk, but as they are magically bound and crushed by the Gashadokuros, they cannot.

Sareena forces you to look her in the eyes. "Please, Kuai... I will not stand by while others suffer on my account. Let me go. I offer myself willingly, just as Smoke did. I will die for you."

"Sareena..."

Shinnok laughs. "Oh, the folly of you mortals... You think your small lifespans and fragile bodies is what makes you weak? It is your emotions. The connections you make. The mercy you render to enemies who would stab you in the back. But of course, the most foolish and simple-minded of all emotions... Love. Friendship. What do they mean? Nothing. They do not follow you to the grave. They are weaknesses, easily exploited. Now make your choice, mortal. Make your choice and suffer for it no matter what you choose; let harm come to one of your friends, or let die the woman who betrayed my Brotherhood of Shadow for the great lie that is love. Make no mistake: I will strive to come up with the most creative and amusing of deaths for her."

Sareena closes her eyes as tears stream down her face. "I'll go.." she says again. "I'll die for you..."

You get up to your feet with Sareena's help. "I have made my choice," you tell him.

"I await with baited breath," he says with a smile.

You look at Sareena, and she sees in your eyes what you plan to do. She pleads with you not to.

You thrust a hand forward with more speed than you've ever mustered and blast his amulet, freezing his arm. He cries in surprise from the cold as you dash across the deck, leaving a trail of spiked ice behind you as you slam into him, grabbing hold of his chest and freezing him to the spot. You then hold up both arms and let loose a torrent of freezing rain upon the Gashadokuros, utterly freezing them in place.

You double dragon palm Shinnok's chest, knocking him back and out of the frozen state. You then twist and grab him again, freezing him. You shatter him again with an elbow slam, and then freeze him again as he falls.

You then conjure all of the cryomancer energy you have into the most powerful sword you have ever created, turn and slice his arm cleanly off. The amulet, with the arm attached to it, flies up into the air.

You then turn and kick him, shattering him out of his ice prison, before spinning and slicing through his neck, cleanly decapitating him in one swift strike. His head rolls across the deck, his tongue lolling out of his mouth and blood pooling out of his neck.

You then catch the amulet and smash his arm on the deck of the ship, causing it to shatter into frozen pieces, leaving you holding just the amulet.

Sareena runs up to you. "You... You did it... I cannot believe it! KUAI, I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!"

She throws her arms around your neck and cries in joy at the death of her former lord and tormentor. Though the moment seems inappropriate, she takes off your helmet and kisses you.

The moment seems to last for a small eternity as she pressed her warm lips against yours. She's wanted to do this for so long, robbed of her chance to by your cybernetic jaw prosthesis.

You part and she smiles, blushing a bit. "I'm sorry," she says. "I... I couldn't handle myself."

You smile at her and look up at your friends. You hold up the amulet and command the Gashadokuros to release them.

They do not.

You command the magic binding on them to be released.

Nothing happens.

You look down at Shinnok's head and your eyes widen. The severed head's eyes are looking up at you and smiling.

You suddenly realize that it was much too easy to defeat him.

In the distance, there is laughter that grows. It is long, sinister and chills even you to the bone. It is coming from the direction of Shinnok's spire. Above it, the clouds swirl and a massive spectral image begins to take shape. A gigantic projection of Shinnok emerges from atop the spire, his eyes burning red as he laughs, a sound that can be heard for tens of miles in all directions.

"YOU FOOL! DID YOU TRULY BELIEVE THAT I WOULD ALLOW MYSELF TO BE ATTACKED? I AM HERE, IN MY SPIRE, ATOP MY DARK THRONE WHERE I AM AT MY ABSOLUTE MOST POWERFUL! DID YOU TRULY NOT THINK THAT ONE AS GREAT AS I COULD NOT CREATE DUPLICATES? DID YOU TRULY THINK THAT SHINNOK, THE MOST POWERFUL LORD OF ALL THE ENDLESS HELLS, WOULD BE SO FOOLISH AS TO PUT HIMSELF IN DANGER? I WAS NEVER IN ANY WAY ABLE TO BE HARMED BY YOU! NO MORTAL CAN HOPE TO DEFEAT ME HERE! I KILLLED THIS REALM'S MASTER AND CLAIMED IT FOR MY OWN--DID YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU ALONE COULD STOP ME?"

The false amulet--a trick he learned from the now-dead Quan Chi--in your hand begins to burn. You try to let it go, but it burns into the palm of your hand before exploding, surrounding you with dark energy. It burns your body and you scream in pain.

The cryomancer armor of your ancestors that you are wearing is utterly and irreversibly destroyed.

You are flung backwards and Sareena cries out as she runs to your burnt body.

Before anyone calls bullshit, Shinnok's MK:A ending
>>
>>42738247
Oh no...
Once again. I'm sorry guys.
Time to wreck up some Gashadokuros
>>
>>42738247
if the only thing we lost was the armor and got a little burnt then im ok with this as would sub zero
>>
>>42738247
rip
Shinnok now has four new revenants
>>
>>42738247
I'm not gonna say I am happy, but I can't say that this was unfair either. This was still our best chance for of an "all in".
>>
>>42738247

Shinnok continues to laugh at your misery. "YOU ARE A FOOL, MORTAL! AND NOW I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO BEST A GOD!"

Both of the frozen skeletons are unfrozen by a blast of fire from the Netherrealm skies. Your eyes are drawn to the screaming of your friend Smoke. Your eyes widen as the skeletal hand around him closes in and is joined by the monster's other hand. Smoke screams in horrifying pain as he is slowly crushed, his bones snapping and blood dripping between the skeletons fingers.

At the command of its master, it then violently twists Smoke, each hand moving in an opposite direction, breaking his spine before tearing him in half.

You scream in horror as your oldest friend is killed. Before, there was a chance to save him, a chance that he could live.

When his lower half is cast into the river of souls and his head is then bitten off by the Gashadokuro, you know that he is truly dead. Across the way, Jade sees her friend die as well and she joins you in her cries of despair.

And through it all, Shinnok continues to laugh at your misfortune and misery, taunting you with his unstoppable power.

You close your eyes as Sareena holds tightly onto you. You know that you failed him, that you are the one who let him die, even after all you did to save him, after all he did for you.

You made the choice that killed your best friend.

[spoile]not to rub it in or anything
>>
>>42738437

>[spoile]
>ONE JOB, DAMASHI

Shinnok pauses in his laughter. "NOW, MORTAL, YOU KNOW ONLY A GLIMPSE OF THE BOTTOMLESS DESPAIR THAT EMOTION WILL BRING YOU. THIS IS YOUR REWARD FOR KINDNESS, THIS IS YOUR REWARD FOR HEROISM. YOU WILL NEVER SUCCEED IF YOU STAND AGAINST ME. HOPE IS A LIE, LOVE IS AN ILLUSION, LIFE IS WITHOUT MEANING, AND DEATH IS THE ONLY INEVITABILITY YOUR PATHETIC KIND WILL EVER FACE. YOU WOULD STAND AGAINST A GOD OF DEATH? YOU ARE AS A GRAIN OF SAND TO A HURRICANE'S WAVE! YOU ARE NOTHING! YOUR FRIENDS ARE NOTHING! YOUR WORLD IS NOTHING!"

With Sareena's help, you rise again to your feet and look at the massive spectral figure in the sky.

"NOW RETURN TO YOUR REALM, AND RETURN ME MY WRAITH. YOU WILL HAVE YOUR FINAL FRIEND BACK WHEN YOU DO SO. UNLESS, OF COURSE, YOU THINK YOU CAN SAVE HER AS WELL. I WOULD IMAGINE THAT EVEN A PATHETIC FOOL SUCH AS YOURSELF WOULD NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE... BUT I AM READY TO BE AMUSED ONCE MORE."

Man, we gotta come up with a plan. We cannot let this stand.
So my question is "what do?" the obvious answer is capturing the Quans to revive Smoke. But man. I just...man.
>>

He's most likely not dead, he's not human and his true form is smoke.
>>
>>42738494
I second this
>>
>>42738538
Also I'm not very happy about this. It's pretty bullshit.
We get Smoke back only for LolRailroad to kill him and we KNOW Shinnok will not keep his word.
It feels like a Everyone's dead, now he has both Sub-Zero and Smoke and Jade and everyone who comes back with us, haha fuck you.
>>
>>42738573
For a revival like Johnny's we would need the body, not sure how much good would that be in pieces now.
and all that implyies Shinnok didn't bind his soul, and intends to use him as a revenant.

Should we ask for Smoke's soul?

>>42738608

Look I'm sorry Anon, but like I said in >>42737863 I planned from the beginning to have the Shinnok in front of them be a false duplicate, as in Shinnok's MK:A ending. He was up on his throne the entire time, but everyone (EVERYONE) in the thread voted to attack him and, well, when you play with fire, you get burnt.
>>
>>42738538
question when kaito returns is it possible for him to get back to his body with out the elder gods like turna moves his soul back

It's hard to be cool when every goddamn choice we make leads us to bending over and sucking the dick of the dude we know won't keep his word and will attempt to do the same damn thing as soon as we give him Noob and the only difference being how much we get punished and our friends killed before we start sucking.
>>
>>42738897
Yes, that's how usually things are when you get stuck in hell, and Satan is holding your allies hostage.
I would suggest to bring back Noob with a spell, and leave the ship home. Easier to flee without it.
>>
>>42738897
I don't remember Shinnok asking Sub-Zero to suck his dick.
>>
>>42738897
Well then obviously we come back without Sareena.
You expected the single most juvenile character in canon not to get a giggle in somewhere?
I mean Shao Khan has more depth for Elder Gods sake. Shinnok is just giggling about corpses all the way down.
>>
>>42738968
Yes, that is the classical definition of railroading. Also we can't just use a spell, chuckles has Jade which means we either leave her there or come back ourselves.

>>42738985
Should have read closer.

>>42739018
>Well then obviously we come back without Sareena.
And then Shinnok has BOTH Sub-Zero as his minions. Oh wonderful! Because we can't beat this fucker and he knows everything we're going to do. That's the best plan!

You bow your head and concede.

"I will return your wraith to you," you say in a low voice.

"SO, THE PEON CAN LEARN FROM HIS MISTAKES. GOOD."

Once more the fog around the nethership returns and begins to encircle your ship. You close your eyes as you hear Jade's struggles against the skeleton.

"DON'T WORRY, I WILL KEEP HER ENTERTAINED WHILE YOU ARE AWAY. AS I SAID, I AM NOTHING IF NOT A HOSPITABLE HOST... HAHAHA, HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAAAAH!"

His laughter echoes as the ship transports itself across the realms. Sareena holds onto you tightly as you are brought to the new Lin Kuei temple.

"I killed him," you whisper.

She buried her face in your neck and holds you. "Kuai, you felt you had no choice, you thought you could defeat him. You had no way of knowing..."

"That doesn't change anything," you say as the fog disperses and the cold air of Arctika hits you, giving you a familiar chill. "How can I be a leader of the Lin Kuei when I can't even save my own people from attacks by the Netherrealm? How could anyone ever follow me?"

She takes your head into her hands again and kisses your cheek, working her way to your mouth. "You are the Grandmaster, Kuai. You ARE the Lin Kuei. Smoke was with you until the very end, and I will be too. I... I love you."

She hugs you tightly again as you hold her close. You want to take comfort in her words, to find some warmth in them, but all there is inside of you is the chill of despair.

You and Sareena head back inside, where you encounter Liu Kang and Kung Lao. They explain that Kitana, Mileena and the Special Forces have left to search for Turana. They see your wounds and inquire as to what happened.

You grimly explain what has happened. They listen and are disheartened by the news.

"We should tell Princess Kitana that her friend is a captive of Shinnok," Liu suggests.

Sareena adds, "She's going to find out either way when we bring Jade back."
>>
heres the plan we have noob deliver us to the netherrealm give the boat to kitanna and have her prepare magic to get both jade and sub zero out of netherrealm
>>
>>42739133

"The Special Forces may try to take the boat back," Kung Lao says. "After all, it was stolen from them by Noob Saibot."

"We may need their backup," Liu points out. "Sub-Zero, Kung Lao and I will go with you to the Netherrealm. It is perhaps best that Sareena stay here."

Sareena looks at you and grips your hand tightly. "I will follow your lead," she says.

You close your eyes. "Not a very good idea."

Just then, you are visited by a glimpse of the vision you head earlier. Upon Sektor's warship, on his technological throne, there was a map on the wall... A location was highlighted...

The old Lin Kuei had a bunker in Japan.

You know then that Sektor is there, with the Dragon Medallion.

Though you have lost your cryomancer armor, perhaps you can retrieve the Medallion from Sektor. It may just make the difference...

Anon, I get it, you're feeling really salty right now.

But seriously, just LOOK at the context in which all of you guys chose to attack Shinnok. Just read it all again. I had all of this planned ahead of time (every choice, not just the ones you guys made) and we would be in a wildly different situation if we had made a different choice, and I truly mean that, on all of my integrity.

I honestly don't feel like I was being subtle here. I laid it all out; the scenario, the choices, the music from Saw. The only thing I never told you was that it wasn't the real Shinnok, which YES, as I said, was planned from the beginning.

Say railroading all you want, I have nothing to regret on my end, you all made a unanimous choice. And if you had chosen differently, different things would have happened. I'm not the writers of Mass Effect, where your choices end up never mattering.

Everything counts. Absolutely everything counts, and every choice the players make can, in fact, be life or death.

And now we're down Smoke and our Cryomancer Armor, and both were absolutely not fated to be lost.
>>
>>42739364
And that's bullshit. If we could take another choice and get out of that with the armor, Smoke and Jade how exactly?
What magical mind reading thing would have let us won that?

Because we did everything right. We started up the ship, we broke the skeleton we get ready to go then OH WHOOPS! Now we're stuck here with an Elder God.
We try to stun him/distract him/whatever to get away using his in game weakness? OH WHOOPS! He's immune to that now and he has our friends. No chance to react.
Then we try to save them, because goddamn we ain't going to bend over and just let him walk all over us. OH WHOOPS! It was a clone, that auto kicks our ass and Smoke is dead!

Well fuck, we better get on our knees and start sucking like Shinnok wanted us to all along, because there's no other fucking option!

if we never got into the situation, which we had a choice to do, we would be fine. But we jumped on the boat being steered by a demon, and it brought us to hell. You can't get out of everything with everyone alive.
>>
>>42739566
Except that's bullshit. We did everything we could to simply escape there as quick as possible and were backed up by the dice and yet we get railroaded hard until we agree to whatever bullshit Shinnok wants us to do.
>>
>>42739489

Dude.

WE.

WERE.

WRONG.

I'm actually, honestly glad that we've finally gotten some of our shit slapped in. We went for twenty threads of Kaito doing the right thing and being a hero and never having anything too bad happen right up until the end anyway

I've felt that we've gotten one too many passes on hard shit already. Every single time we were faced with a problem, we just beat it up. But in an actually compelling story, that's NOT going to happen 100% of the time. We NEED to fuck up every now and then to get a reminder like this. We NEED to make the wrong damn choice so that we can learn that no, our idiocy will NOT always be rewarded

I'm not happy that Smoke is dead, he's my MK9 main and my favorite character, but I stick by what Damashi has done and the choice he made. I'm happy that our characters are actually going through the consequences of our choices in a negative way and getting new characterization out of it

But whatever, man. Like >>42739546 said what's done is done
>>
>>42739489
Okay, I know you aren't generally that guy anon, any you would just need some time alone to cool you jets, but I must say it for the record

This happened with Gorbek too. Though admittedly, we at least rolled shitty right after our good roll there.

Yeah, I didn't like that situation too, but you're whining way too hard about this.

Every Starfleet officer must be prepared to face an unwinnable situation. How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life.

Sub-Zero must learn this if he is to be a wise Grandmaster.

"We're not going to the Netherrealm."

"Wait, we're not?" Liu asks.

"No. Japan first. Sektor is there, and I know where. He has the Dragon Medallion of his father, the former Grandmaster. With it, my powers will be doubled."

The shaolin look at each other. "Alright. We're with you, Kuai," Liu nods. "But we must hurry. Jade is in the hands of the enemy and every moment we waste is a moment she suffers."

You look at the frozen body of Noob Saibot, your brother, trapped in ice and the fallen chandelier. "We take him with us. Frost comes with us, but stays on the boat no matter what. She will help keep him frozen in his prison."

Sareena touches your arm gently. "And me?"

"You... should stay here," you nod. "At least here, he can't reach you."

She holds you close again, placing her head against your chest. "Promise me that you'll come back," she says. "No matter what, you'll come back."

"I promise you," you tell her, holding a hand on her head.

And you know that you will, in one form or another.

You take some time to slip into your old outfit. Working together with the shaolin, you create a path of ice that the shaolin push it down, and all three of you use your combined strength to heft it onto the ship.

Thankfully, Ashrah is still frozen, but as Shinnok never even mentioned her, it is likely that he doesn't care about the demon assassin. Still, the choice remains of what to do with her...

"Another variable we can't afford," you say as you push Ashrah over the edge of the ship. She falls into the snow, where Frost and Sareena take her off to the side before the younger cryomancer gets aboard the ship.

"Master," she says, surprised at your new look. "You look so... Normal," she says with a small tilt of her head.

"Thank you," you reply. "Now, let's get going. Stay with Noob below deck, keep him on ice."

She nods and runs down to continue applying her powers to the wraith's cold prison.

You head to the helm of the ship and begin the low incantation taught to you by Sareena. It takes all of your concentration and some of your strength, but you will the ship to travel to the nearest body of water to the Lin Kuei bunker in Japan.

Within moments, you are there, having travelled halfway around the globe nearly instantly. You are in a thick forest and you jump off onto the shore after confirming that the ship is left in a secure location; a large lake. After doing all the really cool shit in >>42740782 to break in and get past Sektor's defenses, you, Kung Lao and Liu Kang destroy the door to his inner sanctum, a nest of technology. Computers, memory banks, holographic projections and wires are strewn about.

You call out his name. "SEKTOR! Face me!"

A green portal in the floor opens and Sektor emerges amidst a series of green numbers and letters that fade as he rises to the ground.

"Sub-Zero. How did you find me?"

"There's nowhere on Earth that will hide you from me," you tell him. "You and your Tekunin are finished!"

"How did you--?! No matter. You have come here, and that spares me the trouble of hunting you down. Now, you will know death!"

He presses a button on his wrist console. Behind him, several tanks open and bulky, experimental cyborgs emerge, with industrial and military weapons. They are not as efficient as his model, but you know that he is the true threat here.

"We will handle the knock-off brands," Liu tells you.

"I'm fine with that," you say, charging up your arms with ice. "I'm here for the main course, and I need some ketchup on my burger."

The shaolin exchange odd looks before all three of you leap into battle!

Sektor and his cyborgs charge as he prepares to attack with his flamethrower arms!

I like other fighting games, but the only game that I know the best is Mortal Kombat. Initially I had an idea to run a quest where multiple fighting game universes all took place in the same universe, but I quickly realized the task would be far too daunting to keep up with so many characters and backstories.

So I instead elected to go with Mortal Kombat and expand on the many continuities I have studied and give a bunch of minor side characters a chance to shine, like Hydro or Duroc or Stryker kidding

Plus, it's given me a chance to make OCs like Turana and Father O'Reilly.

I have been thinking about running some other games when this one is done, though. Something that hasn't gotten a lot of attention on this board, like Mortal Kombat was.

Anyway, writing the next part now.

You feel the Dragon Medallion's power increasing your own.

Sektor struggles to get back up before you freeze him solid while he reaches an arm out towards you. You approach him and grab the arm, tearing it off and using it to smash the rest of him into pieces. His body falls apart and his head falls to the ground, in tact but everything else is destroyed.

You feel the power of the Dragon Medallion coursing through your veins. You close your eyes and focus as it makes your already potent abilities even stronger. You let out a breath that fogs in the air as the Dragon Medallion augments your natural cyromancer abilities threefold.

>>42743241

You look at the computer containing Sektor's partially-downloaded memories. You entertain the notion of creating a frost hammer and smashing what little remains of him; his head and his memories.

Then he would be gone forever.

You feel the anger welling up inside as you approach the computer.

But then again... perhaps there is something useful inside.

But surely you can't stay here, sorting through memories. Jade is being tormented.

You smash the computer with the frost hammer. The hammer utterly destroys it and you feel the Dragon Medallion's power grow within you. Your powers are not amplified threefold, but fivefold! You feel as though you could freeze this entire base!

You place it onto your chest and pick up Sektor's head. Perhaps it will be of some use to you. You turn to face Liu Kang and Kung Lao, who have finished off their opponents. "Time to leave," you say, setting this bunker to self destruct by hitting a nearby red button on the wall.

The three of you run out and stand away from the explosion. You head back to the boat and decide your next move from there.

"Now what? Do we travel directly to Shinnok's spire?" Liu Kang asks.

"He will likely have a trap prepared for us," Kung Lao says. "I suggest we attempt to sneak into his spire and rescue Jade ourselves. We cannot let him get his hands on the nethership, so taking it directly to his spire is a bad idea."

"Then where else?" you ask.

"I know of a place," Kung Lao replies. "In my travels, I was brought there, briefly. A lower plane of hell. But Shinnok's spire pierces all the levels of hell, and I have seen it. I can bring the Nethership to it and we can enter the fortress from there and work our way up."

Liu sighs. "Jade is enduring much while we debate... She will endure much else if we take too long to reach her. But she is strong, we must not forget that."

"Let's go with your plan, Lao," you say to the razor-hat shaolin.

He nods and takes his place at the helm of the ship. You go down below deck to check on Frost.

"Anything happen?" you ask her.

"No," she says with a smile, as she has taken her mask off. "I've just been here, you know, chilling." She looks to you for a laugh, but you're not in quite a mood. You hand her Sektor's severed head.

"Hook this up to the computers the Special Forces put here. See if you can do anything with its memories."

She sighs and salutes. "Yes sir, master. Right away, master."

You turn around and pause in the doorway, looking back at her; she was staring at your backside. She quickly turns away and goes to work on the cyborg's head. You shake your head and walk away.

Noob is still on ice, that's what's important.

You walk back up on deck and watch as the fog around the ship disperses. You are in a lower level of hell, evidenced by the ceiling far above your heads. Great chains hang from the ceiling to the floor and in the distance you can see the black spire of Shinnok stretching from the top to the bottom.

With the shaolin's help, you get Noob Saibot off the ship and start pushing him in the direction of the spire. "Are we certain your pupil will be alright by herself?" Kung Lao asks.

"She'll manage," you say. "Let's just get this over with."

You feel the power of the Dragon Medallion surge in you once more. When you reach the base of the spire, you hide nearby and the three of you look over a rock.

The Brotherhood guards at its base are dead and slaughtered, sliced into pieces.

"That seems wrong," Lao notes sarcastically.

Creeping closer, you sneak into the spire only to find more corpses. Cut apart, burnt up, sliced in half--it's a slaughter.

Suddenly, there is a fire behind you. You turn around and raise your arms as a figure take shape in it, becoming human.

Scorpion emerges and fixes his burning eyes upon you.

"Sub-Zero..." he says, his voice distant and hollow. "You will pay for what you have done to my family!"

Your eyes widen. "What?"

Suddenly, he attacks, throwing his kunai at you on the end of a chain!

To be continued...

I'm more curious as to why your Waifu survived the nonsense with Shinnok. Why didn't you kill her instead of Smoke?
You shouldn't play favorites.
>>
>>42747164

I know that looks bad on me, but I promise you it wasn't a case of playing favorites. I like to think I haven't played favorites with her in the story, otherwise she'd have gotten a hell of a lot more screentime by now. If anything, the fact that I like Jade might be the reason I'm keeping her out of the spotlight, subconsciously, in an effort to not do just that.

In-universe, Shinnok learned from Noob all about the Lin Kuei and Kuai Liang, up to and including his friendship with Smoke, so he wanted to make Kuai suffer, as he never had any attachment to Jade, unlike Smoke. It also serves to torment Jade, who had such a connection.
