1-50 Thread Summary: http://pastebin.com/DYy8w24r
51-100 Thread Summary: http://pastebin.com/wx3HtRT5

You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you are the Imperiate – the one true tyrant of the thousand hells. Or... something like that, anyway. You’re working on it.

After taking a sojourn abroad to claim landwells and garner more power unto yourself, things are not quite as you left them back home. Fish kings and demon barons look like they’re about to be a big pain in the back.

Ranthix the Terrible, your most loyal servant and pretty much the only person who takes you seriously, has informed you of grave happenings. Waldric, the supposedly trusted interim leader of the San Francisco fief, has betrayed you. You know, somehow. Probably should find out.

--

Your brain is working too slow to catch anything Ranthix is saying. Your eyes hurt. You should be asleep.

Ranthix doesn’t take well to your lethargy. “AWAKEN YOUR FACULTIES, SPAWNLING!” he bellows, gripping you by the shoulders and shaking you violently.

Disoriented, you tear at his hands until you manage to get him off of you. “Fine, I’m awake, what’s going on?” you say.
>>
>>42742488

“WALDRIC OF HOUSE VINCAIN PLOTS YOUR DEMISE. WE MUST MOVE AGAINST THE TRAITOROUS ELEMENTS OF THE CONCLAVE WITHOUT HESITATION, WHILE THE ADVANTAGE OF SURPRISE IS YET WITH US,” he informs you, fiery determination blasting off of him like a furnace. He motions you toward the door. “COME, WE LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.”

“Uh.” You look down at yourself. You’re not really dressed to go anywhere or do anything right now. You’re kind of not dressed at all. You don’t really count Wolf’s shirt. “Can you give me like, two minutes to put on some pants?”

He scowls. “I AM NO FOOL. ALL THINGS ARE PROVIDED FOR,” he replies. “THERE IS NO TIME FOR DILLYDALLYING. ALL WILL BE MADE CLEAR ON THE WAY.”

You hear a grunt back over on the bed as he props himself up to look at you through the dark. “What’s Ranthix doing here? What’s...” he winces when he moves the wrong way. “Sierra, what’s going on?”

“MATTERS OF IMPORT, SON OF DELETRIUS,” Ranthix shouts back. “SIERRA. STOP STANDING, USE YOUR FEET.”

So, uh, what'd Waldo do and how is Ranthix sure that this isn't some kind of plot by the Yellow King? We are sort of in some kind of turf war with that fucker now. Or maybe we inherited it. Not totally sure on how things with that are working out.

I'd like to get walking, and ask Rax on the go. One, it's faster if we decide to do something. Two, he's more likely to tell us something useful, rather than shouting about is being to slow.
>>
>>42742500
Wolf can get us where we need to go faster than Ranthix. Lets have Ranthix give us a slightly lengthier version of what have happened.

So, did ya'all read the Sierra-Wolfgang smut? I didn't know our lawn wizard could be so cute, or so lewd. It's like, wow. http://pastebin.com/mYquXj3P#_=_

Oh. Yeah. Feet.

You stumble away back toward the bed. Jeans should be around there somewhere. Also Wolf is still there, and he’s still alive, which is good. He looks at you inquiringly. “I don’t know. Waldric’s trying to kill me, I guess,” you say hurriedly. “I’ll... call you. Or come back if I can.”

“Waldric?” asks Wolf. “Why on earth would he do that? You’re the only reason the Marshal’s letting him stay here.”

“I’ll figure out the details,” you say.

You find your jeans on the ground, and try to make some of your claws and spikiness go away so you can pull them on quick.

But Wolfgang’s getting out of bed.

“What are you doing?” you ask heatedly.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” he asks, grabbing his pants as well. “I’m coming with you.” (Wolfgang: 8/10 HP, 24/30 PP)

You’re surprised he can even move. But he’s an adult, he can handle himself, you guess. “Oh uh. Okay,” you say. “You’re okay though, right?”

“They’re just scratches,” he says, pulling on his slacks. He points to the shirt on your back. “Could you give me that?”

“Eh. Yeah,” you say, turning away and pulling off his shirt so you can throw it to him. It takes you a couple seconds to find your real shirt and shadow away your wings so you can yank it on. You then slip on your shoes, not bothering with socks.

You head back to the door, though Wolf is still getting on his shoes. You hold up and offer him a non-clawed hand up. “But you do what I tell you to, got it?”

“Just like last time, I know,” he says, taking your hand.

You pull him to his feet. “Oh yeah. Right.” He did okay when you rescued Lucifer from Axos, you guess.

“You’re the one somebody’s trying to hurt,” he tells you, standing close. “Focus on that, okay?”

“Let’s go,” you say.

You and Wolf head back to the door.

Ranthix accepts his presence without a word, and leads the way out of the place. You head down the stairs in a group. It’s then you notice what Rax is wearing – black fatigues, a tactical vest with a bunch of equipment secured precisely in each pocket. Besides a sidearm, he doesn’t have any bigger guns on on him at the moment.

“So, what’d Waldric do?” you ask.

“HE HAS SET YOU AT NAUGHT FOR A BLOOD TRAITOR,” says Ranthix, busting out the bottom stair onto the street and flashing back into his human glamor.

“We’re all technically blood traitors with the Hallows,” says Wolfgang, relying heavily on his steel staff. His shirt is rumpled and half the buttons are undone, and his hair looks crazy. You are likely no better.

The Thultal balks. “THIS IS IN A WAY THAT MATTERS.”

You put it out of mind. Important things. “Who’s the guy he set me at naught for?” You step out into the night. The street is empty at this hour. The darkness is clear, cool, and quiet.

Parked cars line the sidewalks like big slumbering animals.

Ranthix flashes back in glances up and down the street, eyes alert. “THE ARCH-DUKE OF MARDUSIA,” he says. “HE HAS ARRANGED TWICE FOR THE WINGTREADER SATTLER TO DESTROY YOU, WITH WALDRIC’S COMPLICITY.”

Before you can ask questions, a huge black armored truck rumbles up before you in the middle of the street, with the white letters SWAT stenciled on the side. You can’t see who’s driving, but Ranthix leads you around the back. Xathix swings open the doors for you, dressed similarly to his uncle in non-descript fatigues with a bulletproof vest. But unlike Ranthix, Xath holds an M-4 assault rifle.

Ranthix hops up and you follow, while Xath offers Wolf a hand up and pulls up into the back of the truck. He securest the doors behind you, and you feel the vehicle shift underfoot as you speed off.

>>42744030
and we was how good his fire proofing worked, also he never fireproofed the bed it was that before so we don't know it was him and his own fireproofing failed
>>
>>42744417

It’s dark in the back of the SWAT truck, and it smells vaguely of oil and sweat, but you find a seat along with everybody else.

Xanissil turns around from the driver’s seat and gives you a nod of silent acknowledgement.

But there’s somebody else in the car. Somebody not human.

“Hi there,” comes Axos’s voice. The Stygian-Infernus halfblood turns around from the other front seat, though in the guise of a heavy-set man with a patchy beard. He wears a plain t-shirt and a pair of ratty skinny jeans.

“Why’s he here?” you ask, giving Ranthix a confused look.

Ranthix glares at the demon. “BECAUSE THERE IS A DECISION THAT IS YOURS ALONE TO MAKE,” he says.

Wolfgang keeps his eyes on Axos, untrusting. “I thought he was your prisoner.”

“THE PRINCE IS ALSO A SOURCE OF INFORMATION,” Ranthix replies.

Ok, so what do we have in the name of weapons right now? I'm guessing we have our danger ring and shield charm at least? Zelathis is probably off at the Hallow's place. “Okay first off, you actually trust this guy?” you ask, jerking your head to where Axos is sitting.

“NO I DO NOT,” Ranthix tells you. “I TRUST ME. I VERIFIED ALL HIS CLAIMS MYSELF. THERE WERE CLANDESTINE DEALINGS BETWEEN LUCIFER AND WALDRIC, KEPT SECRET FROM US. SATTLER WAS SET ON HER WARPATH SHORTLY AFTER THESE AFFAIRS, IN BOTH CASES.”

“You mean when she received her ‘tips’?” you ask.

“HER CONVENIENTLY ANNONYMOUS YET PECULIARLIY ACCURATE TIPS, YES,” he replies.

Wolfgang frowns. “Doesn’t that make Waldric a blood traitor too?”

Rax scoffs. “THE APPETHET IS NOT FITTING WHEN THE COURT RAT HAS UNTIL NOW CONSORTED WITH DEMONBANE FOR THE BENEFIT OF HALTH,” he explains.

You think this over. “Have you gone to Isaac about this?” Isaac would definitely be here if he knew. If he knew, in fact, he’d probably have already taken Waldric down. You’d only find out after the fact.

“OF COURSE NOT,” says Ranthix. “HE WOULD SMITE WALDRIC FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH. AVENGING OURSELVES ON WALDRIC IS NOT THE GOAL. YOU MUST BE INSTALLED AS THE BARONNESS OF THE FIEF. THE LINE OF SUCCESSION MUST BE CLEAR. THE GOVERNANCE WILL FALL TO CHAOS SHOULD A DEMONBANE SLAY WALDRIC. WE MUST BE THE ONES TO DO IT.”

“Couldn’t I say I ordered them to do it though?” you ask. “Or... actually no, yeah, that won’t work.

“You can’t come out and say you’re living or working with a Demonbane family,” says Wolf. “It would destroy your credibility.”

“I know,” you say, rubbing your forehead. “I said it wouldn’t work.”

Wolfgang lets out a tense breath, his thoughts getting too much for him. “Why would Waldric do this? He wants to be with my sister. He wants to be here, in San Francisco. Sending someone after Sierra, that turns everything against him,” he says, trying to figure it out. “Marshal Hallow will kill him. And I don’t even know what will happen when my father... or Maviel... God.”
>>
>>42746765

“THUS WE SEE HOW THE INTRIGUES OF THE COURT RAT PROVE HIS UNDOING TIME AND TIME AGAIN,” Ranthix answers. “HE DOUBTED THE POWERS OF THE IMPERIATE, AND JUDGED THAT HE WOULD TRADE HIS LOYALTY IN SECRET, THUS GAINING GRAND POSITIONS AND TITLES FROM CONNIVING ROYALS. THUS HE WOULD ENSURE THERE WOULD BE NO DOUBT THAT HE, WALDRIC, WAS SOLE MASTER OF HIS OWN HOUSE.” He burns with anger, the fire simmering on his arms and shoulders. “IN SUCH TREASON HE HAS FORFEITED HOUSE AND FAVOR ALIKE. THERE WILL BE NO LIFE FOR HIM HERE, WITH SUCH JUDGEMENT DO I JUDGE HIM GUILTY.”

You’re left in awe by Ranthix’s speech. And to think, English isn’t even his first language. But something strikes you odd about all this, besides, you know, being betrayed. Not 12 hours ago, a messenger from the Yellow King told you to leave. Now all the sudden all this crap’s coming up? “This can't be coincidence,” you say. “Fish King Prime has something to do with this.”

Ranthix glares at you. “OF WHAT DO YOU SPEAK?”

You rehearse the story, with some clarification from Wolfgang on specifics. Okay, so maybe Wolfgang does most of the story rehearsing. He remembers the exact wording better, maybe.

“I DO NOT KNOW OF THIS YELLOWED KING,” Rax states. “HIS MESSAGE BESPEAKS OF WARNING. I DO NOT SEE HOW IT RELATES TO WALDRIC’S BETRAYAL, CONTINUING ALREADY FOR MONTHS AT THIS TIME.”

“It fits in somehow,” you insist.

“We’ll figure things out after we deal with this,” Wolf promises.

“Yeah,” you say. “But right now, for this, I don’t get it. If Waldric wanted me dead, why didn’t he just tell Sattler I was Hellborn? Literally just a couple words – she’s Hellborn. I wouldn’t even know what was happening.”

Ranthix laughs. “WEAKNESS! IF HE TOLD HER OF YOUR STATE AND YOU DIED, THE BUTCHER WOULD CONFRONT THE WINGTREADER, AND HE WOULD DISCOVER THE PLOT. WALDRIC FEARED THIS, KNOWING HE COULD NOT FACE THE BUTCHER, AND SO MADE HIS PLAN CUNNING SO IT WOULD NOT LEAD BACK TO HIM.”
>>
>>42746801

“That... makes sense, I guess,” you say. “But it doesn’t explain why he’s here.” You glance over at Axos, who’s simply watching everything normally.

He growls. “YES, THAT.” Rax scowls at Axos. “HE IS SON OF USHOLOGUISSA, AN ENEMY TO SULKRASPH, WALDRIC’S TRUE MASTER. AXOS IS OF THE PURSUASION THAT SHE, GRAND WYRMWRITHER, MISTRESS OF THE FLOWING RED RIVER, WOULD BE SYMPATHETIC TO YOUR CAUSE.”

Axos raises a hand and pipes up, his tone polite. “After you take over the fief,” he says conversationally, “Mother Ushologuissa would be happy to help with whatever resources you might require to rule here.”

“PREFERABLY,” says Ranthix, giving the half-blood a disgusted glare, “YOU WOULD RULE ON YOUR POWER ALONE, BEHOLDEN TO NO ONE BENEATH THE EARTH OR ABOVE – ESPECIALLY NOT A FAT SLUG-WRIGGLER LIKE USHOLOSHASHIS. HOWEVER IT IS NOT MY PREJUDICE, BUT THE PREJUDICES OF THE IMPERIATE THAT SUCH A DECISION DEMANDS.”

Except you know how Ushologuissa rolls. She doesn’t really care about lives, mortal or demon, the way she’s been throwing them away trying to undermine everything Waldric was working for. Or you guess what you were working for. But seriously, she had a human chop shop going on.

“Everybody needs a friend,” Axos says, blatantly trying to tempt you. “You already have Sulkrasph trying to kill you. And the Yellow King isn’t too far behind by the looks of things.”

It's possible that Waldric is getting framed for this. If those meetings were how Waldric got intel on where to send us then Lucifer might be playing him. Lucifer could have then given that information to Sattler without Waldric knowing in an effort to fracture our fief's power base.

Of course, Waldric might actually have decided to betray us for some unknown reason so either way we need to handle this carefully before making any decisions to align ourselves with someone else.

I don't like her, I don't want her to remain alive.

But we're sort of getting hate from 2 two powerful enemies, either one of which has a very good chance of taking us out on their own. There's a chance of a third such party coming against us if we don't play things just right. I really don't want Usholoshashis to be the fourth.

Still kind of in shell-shock. The conniving and the plotting, that's totally in character for Waldric. But the overreaching and blatantly undermining everything he was striving for? Allegedly.

I guess he didn't give a shit about family and friends after all. Why would he do this? It could only end badly for him.

Yeah it just seems too stupid for him. I best guess is he is being put up as a scapegoat, but we'll just have to see.

Ranthix won't hurt anyone if we tell him not to. If we bully him into it, anyway.
>>
>>42747220
I'm not saying we should trust anyone yet. I just think we could be getting played by some other faction that wants our fief. Ranthix is awesome and loyal but he isn't very good at courtly intrigue so we need to be cautious about what we believe, even from him.
>>
>>42747324
I'd be good with this as long as we get all the ones closest to the coast, wouldn't want her noticing how the majority of "our" wells are unclaimed.

>>
>>42747407
Ranthix has the ABILITY to can into court shit, and very well, he specifically chooses not to.
>>
>>42747364
I really don't think that's the case. We have a better chance than others would to talk him out of it, but frankly if he decides somebody Needs to die, they're gonna die whether we want them dead or not.

Imagine if our cover with Sat were blown, she's trying to kill us and Ranthix is on the scene. She's wounded and, for the moment, defenseless. We might not want to kill her just out of consideration for family, but I really don't see Ranthix letting her live no matter what we decide.
>>
Either way we ask waldric what's the fuck up straight to his face. His answer decides if he remains alive.
>>

This. Sierra's a practitioner of an extremely direct form of subtlety.
>>
If we do have to fight Waldo, let's make sure to not let him see us. Every single time we've gotten into a fight with a Belphegoran they smack us with Inflict Pain and it fucking sucks. And don't look at his fucking eyes either.

Really, best course of action would be to have Monster shadowstep a grenade up his ass. Or maybe have the ashwight cut him up. Just swamp him with summons in general. Except don't use that new spooky ghost one, he might be able to turn it against our allies by hitting them with negative emotion powers so it tries to eat them.
>>
>>42747494
If we straight order him as imperiate he would obey.

This guy has the right of it. The reason we can bully Ranthix into not killing someone is we can order him not to, and if he doesn't obey that order, he undermines his entire Thultal philosophy thing. Which isn't something he's about to do lightly.

Killing your aunt kind of puts a strain on family relations no matter the context. I think we'd be obliged to at least try and spare her if it's remotely possible to get away without offing her. Between our crown and numerical superiority, mindfuckery would be a no-go for Wally. He'll know full well that the only thing stopping Ranthix from impaling him on an M2 is our say so. The minute Ranthix suspects that our judgement is compromised by magic, he'll disregard our directions and remove the influence with extreme prejudice.
>>
>>42747690
The crown doesn't make us immune, it reduces the damage. It's like how we can still get hurt by fire even though we have fire resistance. 8 soak is not immunity. You bite back the urge to scream NEVER!!! Not after that crap with Iptaph. Axos is right at least about that much, that you need friends at some point. But you’re not sure you want him or Ushola as your friend. You’re not that desperate.

“I’m not agreeing or not agreeing to anything until we deal with Waldric,” you tell Axos.

“Okay. You can think about it until then,” he says, smiling kindly.

"SHE AWAITS SURE KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO CREATE A DECISION,” Ranthix shouts at him. “THINKING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.”

“Do not let consideration chain the mighty, but let strength surge to action,” Axos quotes. “Thank you for catching my slip up there.”

The emotions underneath his veneer of civility have nothing to do with Axos’s expression. It’s like he’s something completely different than what he acts like on the outside. It’s kind of creeping you out. But you have other problems to deal with, ones of mortal consequence.

You ignore him for the time being. “So what’s the plan?” you ask. “The truck, guns, is this a full Rambo thing you have in mind?”

Ranthix scowls. “WALDRIC ASSEMBLES HIS PSEUDO-CONCLAVE FOR A DECISIONARY COUNCIL WITH A SMALL NUMBER OF RELEVANT LEADERS FROM THE FIEF,” he says.

You’ve been to a couple of those. It’s usually the Conclave and like, one or two demons who run businesses or have big families or something, and people yap about boring stuff like what kinds of powers they’re allowed to be willy nilly about, what they can and can’t do to mortals, how much they need to pay the conclave off of magic-related incomes. Boring crap.

All of it goes down on the ground floor of Waldric’s conclave office setup. There’s a few big assembly rooms, and meetings happen in the middle of the night when there’s nobody else around. Everyone gets all demony, there’s cordial discussion, and you usually want to blow your brains out.

“So what, we kick in the door and shoot him?” you ask incredulously.
>>
>>42748362

Ranthix considers your proposal. “HE WOULD NOT HAVE CHANCE TO DEFEND HIMSELF WITH STRONG MAGICS,” he says. “IF IT WERE SINGLE COMBAT IN EQUAL CIRCUMSTANCES, I OF ASSURITY WOULD TRIUMPH. HOWEVER IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW THE DEPTH OF HIS GUILE. FURTHERMORE, HIS COUSIN AND SENESCHAL-SOOTHSAYER ARE WITH HIM.”

“Lucifer may be there too,” says Xanissil, for the first time adding voice to the conversation from the driver’s seat.

“INDEED. HIS CAPABILITIES WE DO NOT KNOW, SAVE THAT HE KNOWS CERTAIN MAGICS,” says Ranthix.

Certain magics? Maybe he means the half-Verwelken thing? You notice Axos, listening intently. You guess Ranthix is unwilling to betray the secret brotherhood-sisterhood of half-blooded Verwelkens, seeing as you’re a member of the team.

Xanissil and Xathix know what’s up though, and that’s what’s important if you get in a fight.

“No,” says Wolfgang, shaking his head. “You can’t murder him – that’s not how this works. This could be a setup. We don’t know enough. Maybe Sulkrasph or the Yellow King or someone is trying to turn us on each other,” he reasons.

“WHAT DO YOU PROPOSE, MAGICIAN? WILL YOU WAGGLE YOUR FINGERS AND CAST A SPELL? DEMONS OF WISDOM GREATER THAN YOURS LIE AHEAD. THE DECISION IS BEYOND YOU.”

No duh. It’s your decision.

Wait a minute. Does Wally even know that Fishface's main beef is with us personally, as a land master and child of his enemy, not with the fief? “Hope it’s not beyond me though,” you joke.

Ranthix glares menacingly at you. “SPEAK.”

“I’m not ready to throw Waldric under the bus yet,” you say. “I mean. All this stuff looks bad. But it doesn’t make sense with, you know, him trying to settle down here. He kind of needs me for that.”

“TRAGIC HOW HE DECIDED TO BETRAY AND MURDER YOU THEN, ISN’T IT,” says Ranthix, unsympathetically.

You pinch your nose, attempting to think this through. “Okay. Yeah. If it is what it looks like, waltzing in there’s kind of dumb,” you say. “But Orias and Ulam, I can’t see them knowing anything about it. They both have their heads screwed on straight.”

“YES,” says Rax, “BUT HOW MUCH WOULD YOU COUNT ON THEIR AMIABLE FASCADES SHOULD YOU PRESS THEM TO CHOOSE BETWEEN YOU AND HIM?”

That’s an unpleasant, but good point. “Yeah, no, I get it,” you say. “He’s family. And I don’t know Ulam’s story, but he dropped everything and came out here to help out after Waldric sent him a fucking letter.” You wish you could make a choice that wasn’t cruddy. “I need to talk to him first. Whatever’s going on, I have to know.”

“THEN WE WILL KNOW,” says Ranthix.

“Can’t we separate Waldric somehow?” asks Wolfgang. “Get him alone so we can talk to him without dragging the others into it and risking a fight? I could talk to Maviel, have her call him.”

“INTERSTING, DOES MAVIEL USUALLY CALL WALDRIC IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT?” Rax asks. “HE WOULD DETECT THE ODDITY IN ONE SO FAMILIAR TO HIM IMMEDIATELY.”

“We can hold off on this for a few hours at least,” he argues. “At least wait until he’s done with the meeting.”

No, I'm saying that maybe Waldric doesn't realize that they're ARE murder plots against us, because he doesn't realize that we're a primary target. He assumes that since Sierra mostly stays out of politics while he's the Baron that therefore people are plotting against HIM, sometimes through others. He might have only been looking for an angle that would harm him, not one targeting us.
>>
>>42749252

“YES, GIVE THE COURT RAT MORE TIME TO DISCOVER I HAVE AXOS AND EXTRACTED ALL USEFUL INFORMATION FROM HIM,” he replies. “DO YOU THINK OUR HASTE IS IN VAIN? TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE, MAGICIAN. IT IS POSSIBLE OUR ONLY ADVANTAGE IS SURPRISE. DO NOT SQUANDER IT.”

“Ranthix knows what he’s doing,” you tell Wolf. “You can trust him. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for this guy.”

“CIRCUMSTANCE WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT YOU ESCAPED IN OTHER WAYS,” Ranthix demurs. He glares at his niece and nephew before looking back at you. “YOUR DEFENSE IS OUR PRIVILIDGE, NOT NECESSITY. HOWEVER I WOULD NOT THAT YOU SUFFER MORE DELAYS THAN NECESSSARY IN YOUR RISE TO THE IMPERIACY.”

Wolfgang takes a deep, shuddering breath. You can feel his trepidation. Obviously doesn’t like the idea of going after Waldric, or of maybe having to fight Ulam or Orias. You’ve only see him chatting with them a couple times, but you think they get along, kind of. “I don’t know,” he says, shaking his head. “Sierra, I’m with you on this, whatever this is. Better or worse.”

That makes you feel kind of better a little. And it also makes you want to kiss him. But not while everybody’s looking at you. You have to figure this out.

Sierra and Wolf creates a big entrance and acts as a distraction while Ranthix and team set up the entire area with explosives. In any sign of danger, Wolf ports us out of there and the place goes boom.

BLOOD MAGIC.

I say we go with trying to get him alone first. He doesn't think Sierra has a subtle bone in her body, so he won't suspect her to be asking him into an ambush until it's too late.

General plan is interrogate semi-civily at first. If he starts anything, restrain him and drain his PP down to nil, then resume questioning, if possible.

Just Ranthix, actually. Isaac was going after Trevon back then and even with him it was a nonlethal mission to tag him with a tracking spell.

Is it possible that we tip off Isaac, he kills the other two demon fucktards, and we package Waldric when he rabbits? One anonymous tip on the situation, one Demonbane Demonbane'ing, and Waldric is without friends and likely running for his life. Just need to specify not to kill Waldric.
>>
>>42749295
We could call him and say some shit about how Sattler's on the way there with a couple other people to kill the shit out of everyone at the meeting, then snatch Waldric when everyone bolts. He can't detect emotions over the phone so it'd be easy to bluff him with it.

On the one hand, Isaac will be upset that we didn't come to him with this if it goes South. Part of the deal for him accepting this is letting him know about this sort of thing.
On the other, if Waldric is being framed, calling in Isaac is tantamount to pushing the nuke button and could easily destabilize the fief.
>>

All right, final plan vote.

-Plan-
>Attempt to lure Waldric outside and alone via phone call.
>Go inside to talk in person, acting natural. (Further details will be decided later. Maybe bluff about Sattler or Isaac, or just try to wheedle the truth out of him without revealing your hand.)
>Bust in armed and ready to fight, and confront Waldric about what he's done.
>Kick in the doors with a few flashbangs, attempt to subdue everyone before they can react. (Attempting nonlethal, but you never know.)

We don't really need to bluff much. The gig is up for him. Either he cooperates or he tries to kill us, in which case Isaac WILL kill him. And not to mention that killing us will be REALLY fucking hard. Either way he loses and cooperating should be the least of the evils.
Also crown should be up, wearing a bulletproof west when you go into a gunfight is much better than not wearing it.

Does Ranthix have napalm or some really effective incendiary? Because we are immune to fire and i am pretty sure waldo is not.

>Attempt to lure Waldric outside and alone via phone call.
"Fun fact, Waldric. Isaac heard from Sattler there's a demon meeting at [where he is], she's headed on over there. Anyone you know?"

Or if that's too suspicious (how many people know about the meeting), say she's after Maviel. Bonus if we can grab Maviel beforehand and have her play along.
>>
Why do you want to talk to him in person? Seriously. Would you go and try to get into a direct physical confrontation with Ranthix if everything went to shit and we had to deal with him? Why give Waldric a confrontation that plays to his strengths?

Nice, because that could mean we could do my previous plan of >>42749414 without needing to escape. Just set the entire area up with incendiaries instead of explosives. We should do this in any case.

>>42750215
Good point. My suggestion is then this: set the entire area up with incendiaries and get everybody ready to ambush. Then call up Waldric and start negotiating. Hopefully he can't use to many belphegoran abilities over the phone.

Also we should confirm he is in there first, stepping of the mind maybe?

The problem with that is that Ulam and Orias seem like chill dudes, and there are other demons from the fief. Everybody can't be in on it, and blowing up constituents is bad press.

On the other hand, it is an amazing negotiating item, they probably wouldn't die from just some fire, and all the light would suppress wervelken abilities.

“Okay, okay,” you say, your think powers generating think results. “So walking in there’s not going to work, cause he’ll know something’s up. And if we walk in ready for a fight, we might actually get one, and we don’t want that happening with everybody there.”

“AH YES, SO THE PHONE PLAN,” says Ranthix. “IT IS NOT THE BEST PLAN.”

“Yeah well the best plan if Waldric’s a traitor is killing everybody,” you say. “We’re not doing that plan.”

Ranthix scowls. “SO BE IT.”

“Should I call Maviel?” asks Wolf. “It doesn’t matter if we make Waldric suspicious so long as we get him alone.”

>Just a second. I’m going to ask Isaac to come down here in case things go bad.

Set up explosives and incendiaries first, we don't have to use them, but blowing the place up could be a negotiating option.

“I’m not stupid,” you say. “Tell me you have my magical crap.”

Ranthix pulls a weighty duffel bag out from under his seat and sets it on the chair next to you – it clinks with the sound of metal. “ALL OF IT,” he says.

You peek in the bag, and find your stuff. You guess he popped by the house before picking you up? Huh. “Okay, so I’ll just go talk to him as soon as he’s outside,” you say. “You guys hold back, but be ready to rumble. If anything happens I can get out of there pretty damn fast. I have to talk to Isaac about this though. It kind of falls in the category of crap I have to tell him about.”

“THEN IT IS DECIDED,” says Ranthix. “MAKE YOUR CALL, WE ARE FAST APPROACHING.”

---

After you’re geared up for a fight, you give Wolfgang the go signal. Wolf calls Maviel, waking her up, and explains he needs to meet her and Waldric right now, at her house. He’s pretty convincing, and gets her to agree to unwittingly agree to her side of the plan.

With that out of the way, you hop out of the truck and walk a block with everybody until you get to Waldric’s fancy sports car. Kind of sticks out.
>>
>>42751304

Wolfgang vanishes around getting everybody into position. Ranthix takes position up on the roof above your meeting place. It’s a clear line of fire, and he can probably just jump down if you need him up close. Xath and Xan take cover behind some parked cars on the other side of the street. Wolf can be anywhere, so you don’t worry about where he is.

Stress: 30/103
Sanity: 97
HP: 35/35
PP: 47/47

After maybe five minutes, you start getting worried, but then you spot Waldric coming out of the building and coming toward the car, and by extension you.

He stops while he’s still about forty feet away. His long iron grey hair is loose, and sways gently in the wind. He has his designer jacket left casually unzipped, revealing the silk dress shirt beneath. He looks thin and pretentious as always.

You drop the glamours on your crown, prepared for anything.

“What are you doing here?” he asks. He’s too far away to get a read on his emotions, but he’s also too far away.

If we do that, we can have him try to emotion read Waldric. Not sure if he could read monster, though. It'd probably make it a hell of a lot harder to get a read on us going through a summon even if he can do it, though.
>>
You exhale. Got to be level headed for this. “I heard about some stuff you did,” you say, keeping your expression neutral while you summon Monster behind your back. The imp quickly becomes shadow and disappears into the night. “Thought you deserved a chance to explain.”

“What stuff? Explain what?” he asks, curious.

Maybe he really doesn’t know what you’re talking about yet. “Could have had Ranthix kick down your door, shoot you in the face,” you say. “This is the part where you try to sell me on the whole talking to you instead thing.”

“Sierra. Calm down,” he says, raising his hands slightly, as if attempting to sooth a wild animal. “We can talk about this. Whatever it is.”

“I know you pretty much have Sattler on speed dial,” you tell him. “Maybe start there.”

“What are you talking about?” he asks, sounding genuinely puzzled

Monster relays a fuzzy version of his emotions for you. He feels preternaturally calm. Collected. His guard’s up. If there's any more nuance than that, you're not picking it up through the imp.

So. This is the game he’s playing. Or does he legitimately not know? Or is it more likely that he’s trying to get your guard down, and then who knows what the hell will happen?

Ranthix wouldn’t accuse Waldric on accident. There’s no way any setup would fool him. He cuts through political crap like it’s tissue paper. The innocent act doesn’t fool you.

“I don’t get it,” you say. “Wolfgang doesn’t get it. Why risk everything to get me out of your way? I’m not even in your way. We’re on the same team. But you acting dumb, it’s not helping things.” Your hand linger on the stock of your SMG, hanging off your back.

“Whatever you think you heard, or whatever... what do you think I did?” he asks. “Who’s accusing me?” He stops, gauging something by looking at you. “It’s Ranthix, isn’t it. You know he hates me,” he says earnestly. “Think this through for a second. He never wanted me to rule this fief. He thinks it belongs to you somehow! He’s trying to push you into the spotlight, get you to announce yourself to the courts, show Corithis’s daughter is still alive! That’s what this is about!”

The duplicity is astounding. (+5 Stress: 35)

“Sierra. Please,” he continues. “What if I’m not guilty? Did you ever consider that? I know Ranthix saved your life, but he’s not who you think he -”

“Come on,” you say seriously, cutting him off. “Be real for just a second. For a literal second. Your life here. Everything. It all goes away if you don’t fix this now.”

Waldric goes quiet, standing perfectly still. He seems to be hovering on the verge of something, his expression unreadable.

Better than all the "shoot him" people, kind of defeats the point of talking to him.

You know, if we accuse him of some crazy bullshit that we know he didn't do, and he feels relieved, then that's a pretty damn good indicator that he did /something/. If he's innocent he'll react with stress to damn near any accusation.

Shame we can't actually get a read on him since he's using magic self control shit. If we drained him, this interrogation would go much better.

Except that he's acting like it's making him uncomfortable, which sort of defeats the entire purpose.

He doesn't know we can sense his emotions right now because we aren't within range of eachother. We're using Monster to cheat. He thinks he's presenting himself as being ruffled by the interrogation.
>>
Ranthix is a god-tier character. Even if he stabbed Sierra in the back, I'd understand his reasons for doing so. He found someone more suited for the job, somehow, or someone tricked him into thinking they were more suited.

Don't get me wrong, I would still put a beat down on Ranthix, but only to prove he judged wrong and to force him to heel again, because Ranthix is a beast and wtf why would you want to make him a permanent enemy?

Your fingers twitch. You could shoot him, right now. It’d just take a couple of hits. If you moved fast enough he wouldn’t have a chance of defending himself.

You don’t want to believe he’d risk losing her for this. But it’s happening right now.

Wait. Something Ranthix said. Who’d Orias and Ulam pick if they had to choose between you and Waldric?

Who’d Waldric choose if he had to choose between you and Maviel?

All this crap. The lies. It’s for her.

“It’s about Maviel, isn’t it,” you say, feeling your confidence build within you. “Are they threatening her? What is it? C’mon man. We’re friends.”

Waldirc’s expression becomes intense, struggling within himself. “I need... we need him on our side,” he says, his voice weak.

I'm betting that Sulkrasph and YK are working together. The flashbacks that we had ~100 threads ago about Mom doing conclave stuff seemed very very Hastury and there was talk of things going to shit. Sulk was a member of her conclave, YK was one of dad's rivals. YK knew about the scissors thing, more or less rubbing it in our face that he had a hand in the death of our family. He also knew who we were, by name, the first time we met his summon which followed shortly after meeting Lucifer (Sulk's minion).

It all fits. The two of them were working together because YK wants Terran domination and Sulk wants to be some kind of imperiate himself. Possibly the puppetmaster behind an imperiate he raises up, judging from the way he's "scouting talent".

“Wait wait wait,” you say, waving your hands around. “Let’s just be straight here. You’re admitting you were a jerk, so nothing’s changed there.”

He grates out a breath through clenched teeth.

“Let me help,” you say. “I can help. Who is it?” you ask. “The Yellow King? Sulkrasph?”

Waldric stares at you and shakes his head, just barely. “Sierra. You can’t help this time.”

“As a matter of fact,” says another voice from out of the shadows, thin and raspy, “she can.”

A figure resolves out of the darkness of a crevice between you and Waldric.

Lucifer. He wears a painfully black greatcoat and a top hat, much different from the rags you found him in when you rescued the him from Axos. He speaks, though it’s difficult to hear him. His voice doesn’t carry the way it’s supposed to. “I needed to be sure you were who you said you were,” he says. “And if you aren’t who you say you are, we, Waldric and I, must ensure your death.”

Waldric doesn’t look like he wholly agrees with Lucifer’s statement, but he doesn’t say anything to contradict him. Although from the signals he’s passing to Monster, Waldric’s definitely on your side right now.

>Shoot him

Yeah it looks like Waldric was the lesser and the Duke was the greater like the shadows prophecized back at Itaphs burned down place.

Don't know if we can save him from the Duke like we saved him from Meckor. It is more difficult to defend against political powers.
>>

Everyone fucks off when you kill them. And seeing as how murder is a time honored political tradition in Halth, it can't exactly hurt our cause.
>>
>>42753821
True, but Waldric seemed to imply that he needs the Duke for something. Maybe he needs him not kill him and his family in which case we can solve the issue by killing the Duke. In any other case it might get tricky.

Also I wonder if Maviel figures out something is going down from Wolfgangs phonecall and saunters over to give her mind on the situation. I get the feeling Waldric doesn't disclose this sort of thing to her.

I don't think anyone noticed, but the danger ring is totally inert here. It buzzed for Roger and those NYC angels who we just mouthed off to and walked away from, but it's not buzzing for Lucifer.

Either he doesn't mean us harm, he has some wicked stealth going on that can hide from the enchantment on the ring, or he's so fucked/alien in the head that it doesn't work on him.
>>
>>42753982
The Puppet was alien as fuck and it made the ring flip to overdrive back in Vancouver. I think Lucifer might be looking for a confirmation on who Sierra is before doing anything.

Either way I don't know if we should wait for the danger ring to go off before acting. I'd rather seize the iniative.
