In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

You have sent out a Strike Cruiser to crush a minor rebellion on the world of San Larion, Kronus, one of your most trusted brothers was leading the mission...
+++
Deregan Varsh, age 34, born in Novomark, always thought that his job was one of the easiest and most prestigious in all of the Imperium. Serving as the communications officer aboard "Venator Primus", Hunter-Class Destroyer was always easy and he served Adeptus Astartes, Sons of Him on Terra. Another routine mission to the backwater world of San Larion was supposed to be a cakewalk, nothing special. Breaking up riots is a job for Arbites, but nowadays our Sector is so quiet because of Ghosts of Retribution, that battle brothers have the time to answer to even such an easy request as crushing a rebellion, which are commonplace in the periphery systems... Deregan was sitting in front of communications cogitator, tracking vox exchanges among battle brothers and from time to time advising them on how to proceed or relaying orders from Leutenant Kronos. Random chatter, orders and inquiries filled the air as Deregan was sipping his hot decaf. Then, suddenly, one by one, comms channels went dead. Deregan put decaf away and checked cogitator, whispering Litany of Maintenance under his breath. Everything seemed to be in order. Suddenly channel 12 flared up as live and chatter filled the room:
>...eat, they are climbing the walls, we are almost out of am... - - - ...re is Kro... --- ...
Deregan, now in panic, screamed into his vox caster:
>Detachment Kappa, do you copy me? Kappa!? Kappa, Emperor dammit, are you there!?
Then another channel came to live, this time number 8.
>...ad co... - - - ...multiple enemies, probabl... - - - ...we are retrea... - - - ...tunnels. ---
Number 8 went dead as well. With shaking voice, Deregan turns on internal comms and warns the captain:
>Sir, I think we have serious trouble.

You lost control of Kronos and his squads.
Please roll d100(less is better)

Good to be back.

Some things from the end of last thread:

1. Trading the reverent spirit for 6 Gladius-class frigates. Arrange the trade through Nestorium (ie, give battlecruiser to Imperial Navy, Navy pays Nestorium, Nestorium constructs frigates).

2. Our blank Xenya, I want Geron to train her up to make her less of a squishy mortal. She's obviously never going to be much use in direct combat when compared with marines, so I want Geron to concentrate on stuff like stealth, agility and perception.
As for training her blank powers, is there some way Chapter Master can test himself against her, attempting minor psychic powers like telekinesis while she tries to block it. So it trains both her own ability to project her blank field and improves Chapter Master's resistance to blanks?

3. Pale Raven delivered some stuff the CEF got from Corgus, among it is 3 units of raven guard geneseed and 2 suits of raven guard power armour dating back to the great crusade. I want to send it to Deliverance and return it to the raven guard.

>>

Reverent spirit is an armageddon-class battlecruiser. A dedicated anti-ship vessel with lances and no planetary assault capacity.

It basically violates every rule there is about what Astartes are allowed in space, and we have a shortage of escort-class vessels.

1. It will be done! Gladius class frigates will be ready in d10+5 years ( however some of them might be finished earlier if you'd need them).

2. It will be done, Geron is quite happy to take her as his apprentice.
>She has the necessary skills and attitude already, now I'll just need to put her into shape and make her understand that she's not going to face just minor wytches from now on...
Would Chapter Master want to train with her while in transit or would you like to dedicate a year for intense training?

3. One of the passing trade ships will deliver the cargo for you free of charge out of respect for the Ghosts of Retribution. Would you like to pass along any kind of message to the Raven Guard along with the gift?

>>42783126
The captain of "Venator Primus" has decided to contact you first and wait for instructions rather than risk facing an unknown enemy with his meager crew. While it takes about d5 days for his soulword to arrive, you are now aware of the situation... What shall you do?

Just do training in transit for now.

As for a message to Raven Guard:
>Esteemed primogenitors, we recovered these from far beyond the reaches of the Imperium and believe they date back to the Great Crusade. May their legacy live on.

Leave 2nd Company at the Tombstone, take the rest of our forces that aren't currently engaged to San Larion (ie other half of 5th, 1st and the aspera dominus).

At the moment we're dealing with a situation that's just come up. We sent half a company to deal with a rebellion on a minor world, some shit went down, we lost communications, and now we're going to find out what the hell happened.

I suspect genestealer cult.

All of the frigates will be ready in 12 years, however first 3 will be ready after 6, as they are going to be made in threes (at this time Nestorium was able to dedicate only three drydocks for Navy frigate building).

The powerful augurs on the main deck of Aspera Dominus scan the whole planetary surface within a few hours from your arrival. In addition to that captain of "Venator Primus" also shares his data. You soon receive a summary from one of your analyst-servitors:
>Our readings show that planet is currently completely pacified. Some cities have signs of partial damage which is being repaired, but Arbiters and PDF forces seem to have destroyed armed opposition and the riots have been put down. Captain Todd, one of your chapter serfs, since the incident when Kronus and other battle brothers went missing remained in hiding and monitored all airwaves trying to catch any form of distress signal from the missing squads, however that was in vain. It appears that planet is currently being rebuilt, should we try and make contact?

>This is the Chapter Master of the Ghosts of Retribution. Marines of my Chapter arrived here earlier to assist in the pacification efforts but we are having difficulties hailing them. Do you know anything.
>>

After a few minutes you receive a reply from the stardock operator:
>Ave Imperator, we are honoured to see you here, great Astartes. Indeed, we were informed that some of your brothers have landed about two weeks ago during the unrest, I assume that they were among those who helped to put it down... However as far as I am aware they have either left the planet or are staying somewhere out of public sight, otherwise we would hail them as heroes! Would you like me to arrange you a meeting with our Planetary Governor Don Siempre? He will be informed of your visit immediately!
>>
Greetings and good night
>>
>>42785392
Go meet Don Siempre with the Shadow Guard, Brethorius and Laptus. Make sure thunderhawks are ready for a swift extraction if necessary.

Meanwhile the rest of our forces search the last known locations of Kronos and his marines, trying to contact them on a chapter-only frequency. Stay in decent numbers, stay in contact with each other, and be careful.

If I remember correctly we last saw Kronos and his squad going to relieve the planetary palace with Don Siempre inside (for which they rolled a 6), so if Siempre says he doesn't know where they are then something's up....

Tell everyone to stay frosty. Things may not be what they seem.

And did we contact the inquisition yet?

When your Thunderhawk lands on the tarmac near the delightfully posh Planetary Governor's palace, Shadowguard is the first to exit. They quickly scout the area, but the lovely beach where the landing pad is located doesn't pose any obvious threats. Further away you can see the jungle and a low mountain range. Only minutes later a few dozens of wokers arrive to greet you, refuel the Thunderhawk and take you to the palace.

Here we go again.

Have our marines look at the 'honour guard'. Are their faces concealed? Anything odd about their appearance?

However you are welcome to stay on San Larion for as long as you wish! Forever, even! Our beaches are wonderful! I am afraid I wouldn't be able to accompany you, I am not feeling well recently, but I will make sure you are welcomed everywhere as if I was by your side. So, is there anything else I can help you with?
The guards have their faces open, their faces are expressionless. Their minds are empty, they are either very well disciplined or very stupid...

>Chapter Master, this is Sergeant Hasvar of the 5th Company, my men have approached one of the depots that were guarded by our brothers. Most of the place has been recently repaired and repainted, but we found a few holes in the walls that could have only been left by the bolter shells... After checking the nearby rubish pile we also found a shard of shoulderpad which clearly belonged to one of our brothers, identification at the moment is not yet possible. We also found strange traces leading towards an abandoned industrial warehouse nearby, they seem to be fresh, should we investigate?
