My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. I already thought my life was odd, what with my parents having moved halfway across the country for their new job and leaving me in the care of my older sister... but then my best friend went and had a book shipped to my house that ended up giving me superpowers.

I was feeling pretty good about myself, what with successfully setting up Theresa with Irene and having Charlotte finally come out of that cocoon and everything. Irene's our houseguest now and she seems to be getting along pretty well with Allison...

...but it totally slipped my mind while I was setting all of this up that Charlotte REALLY doesn't like her.

>"...-Irene-?" Charlotte looks at me with a look like she's accusing me of something.
>"Yeah, she's one of Cecile's friends," Allison replies. "Do you know her? Really tall, green hair..."
>"Yes, I believe we've met before."

>Oh boy.

Even though I can tell that Charlotte's anything BUT happy right now, she's just so small and cute right now that I can't find her imposing at all. It's actually kind of funny the way that she's pouting like this...

But of course I'll never actually say that out loud.

"Umm, yeah..." I hold up my hands as if to apologize. "Because of an, uh... girlfriend thing, Irene's going to be staying at my house for a little while."
"A what?"

Charlotte stares at me like I just said the dumbest thing ever.

"I thought that her and Theresa might be a good match so I kind of set them up," I shrug. "They're actually out on a date right now."
"Oh, so THAT'S why she came over this morning?" Allison speaks up. "I had no idea that they were, uh..."

Great now everyone's staring at me.

"Honestly," Charlotte groans. "You KNOW who she works for, I don't understand why in the world you would possibly think it was a good idea for her to-"
"Hey," I interject. "they're not involved in this at all."
"A likely story."
"Really," I hold up my hands, "that's the entire reason why she's staying at my house instead of the church that we were hiding out in. She came back here without telling them anything."

Charlotte glares at me.

"So you mean to tell me that the entire reason that she's over here is..." she shakes her head.
"Irene's really overworked on her job so Cecile invited her to try and relax some," Allison says, I guess in an attempt to help me. "What's wrong, you two don't get along?"

"......"Charlotte looks away. "...you don't understand how they operate..."
"Don't worry, I'll be sure to tell Irene the same thing when I get back home!" she says with a beaming smile. "I'd hate for tomorrow's dinner to be ruined over some petty fight, you know?"
"Ugh, fine."

"So..." I walk behind Charlotte and hold my arms around her, "...now that that's been resolved, I don't want to eat up any more of your time..."
"Heh," Allison winks at me. "You're right, we -still- haven't gotten to see the lions."

I'm kind of surprised that Charlotte doesn't try to shake me off of her.

"I guess we'll be seeing you all tomorrow?" Allison asks. "Since I'm assuming that Cecile isn't going to be coming home tonight."
"Yup, tomorrow," I reply.

Just then, I remember something important.

"Mom and Dad haven't called lately, have they?" I ask.
"Last time I talked to them was a few weeks ago," she replies. "Why?"
"Just wondering," I sigh.

It's not at all uncommon for long stretches of time to go by without hearing from them, but it does still suck. A lot.

>[1/?]
>>
>>42809119

"I'll be sure to tell you right away if I hear from them, though," Allison says.
"Alright, thanks," I reply.

After the requisite hugs and kisses and all that embarrassing stuff, Allison and Kevin leave to check out the other exhibits and so we're once again left alone in the reptile house.

"Honestly, Cecile..." Charlotte groans. "I can't believe that you'd..." she shakes her head.
"C'mon, Charlotte," I reply. "This is just regular Irene, not 'tree of life agent' Irene. And that jerk with the triangles isn't around at all."
"Fine," she mumbles. "...as long as Gabrielle's fine with it."
"As long as I'm fine with what?" Gabrielle asks.

We both turn to her, and she's still looking at the snakes.

"Gabrielle," Charlotte sighs, "were you paying any attention to what we were talking about?"
"Not really."

Every snake in the reptile house begins hissing in unison.

"......"

I look at the increasingly-agitated Charlotte and decide to take the initiative.

"My friend from the Tree of Life's staying at my house," I say to Gabrielle. "She's going to be there tomorrow and Charlotte wants to know if you're okay with eating dinner with her."
"I don't care," Gabrielle replies with a shrug. "Shary'll beat her up if she picks a fight so it doesn't matter if she's around or not."

I guess that's as good a response as I can reasonably expect.

"Well there we have it," I say as I take Charlotte's hand. "Gabrielle's okay with it so will you maybe calm down please?"

The hissing stops.

"Fine," she grumbles.

While these snakes do look cool and all, the idea of standing here all day watching them sit in one place is just to boring for me to bear. Not to mention that Charlotte seems to be growing increasingly agitated the longer we spend in here.

"Hey," I call out, "are you about done in here, Gabrielle?"
"Huh?" she glances back at me. "What, you wanna go somewhere else?"
"Yeah, kinda," I shrug.
"Oh. Okay,"

Gabrielle peels herself away from the tegu exhibit and starts towards the exit.

"What did you want to see?" she asks.
"I dunno," I shrug, "do they have fish here?"

That might be cool to see... though this is a zoo and not an aquarium so I dunno if they even have them here.

>[1/?]
>>
>>42810089

"The aquatic exhibits are right next to this place," Charlotte chimes in.
"Oh, really?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Yeah, that's where I had to go when I copied that frog last time I was here... not that I needed to use it."

This would be a perfect opportunity to mention that Irene saved her from potentially being frozen, but that would probably only serve to start a fight so I shall refrain from doing so. Because I'm nice.

Much to my surprise, the underwater part of the zoo is actually pretty large. It's in a closed building since the tanks all need the water to b particular temperatures according to Charlotte, and they've got even more types of fish than I saw the last time I was in a pet store.

"Ooh, they got sharks!" Gabrielle says with a wide grin as she runs off to their tank.
"You're not going with her?" Charlotte asks, glancing at me with a smirk.
"Nah, I wanted to look at other stuff," I reply.

Because seriously, this place is filled with like EVERYTHING.

"You feeling better now?" I ask Charlotte while looking around.
"..." Charlotte glances at me and sighs.
"Well you actually smiled at me earlier so I was just wondering," I continue. "Since I know you hate being in the zoo to begin with."

Charlotte starts walking towards one of the tanks.

"...this place is a lot less depressing, that's all," she says while placing her hand against the glass. "Like this eel here, he's perfectly happy with the space he was allotted and doesn't mind being cooped up in here one bit."
"Oh," I nod.

As she talks, a moray eel pokes its head out of one of the caves in its tank and approaches the glass where we're standing.

>[1/?]
>>
>>42810557

Charlotte traces her hand along the glass and the eel follows along, its long body waving back and forth with her movements. Before long, some of the other visitors start to notice what she's doing and a crowd begins to form.

"Wow, I've never seen that thing leave its cave before!" a man says while staring in awe.
"Mommy, I wanna play with the fish too!" a little girl calls out.

But while I'm pretty amused by all this, Charlotte clearly isn't all that appreciative of the attention she's receiving and walks away from the tank once she reaches its edge. I hurry after her, but not before laughing internally at the mass of people who try and fail to recreate her stunt.

>[2/?]
>>
>>42810555
Tell that to /tg/ paladins.
>>
>>42810615

Doing her best to steer clear of the other people here, Charlotte eventually settles in front of a weird cylindrical tank. She lets out a long sigh while looking into the glass.

"What's in ther- oh," I say, cutting myself off when I realize what the tank's contents are. "Jellyfish."
"Yeah," Charlotte nods.
"Are they happy in there?" I ask.

They're just moving around in circles, undulating their weird-shaped bodies as the current takes them around the tank.

"There's nothing in there," Charlotte replies.
"Eh?" I turn to her. "Really?"
"Nothing," she repeats herself. "They just kind of... exist."
"That's really freaky."
"Mr. Gauthier took me to an aquarium overseas once," she says, "they had some jellyfish that can revert to their juvenile stage of life if need be. I could probably copy that ability myself, but..."
"But?"
"But I'm afraid of how it would manifest in a mammalian body like mine," she says.

Considering that turning into her little form here involved dropping limbs and shedding a large part of her skeleton, I can only imagine that it wouldn't be pretty.

>[3/?]
>>
>>42810755
>[4/4]

"Not that I need to worry about that any time soon though," Charlotte says, her eyes following the hypnotic movements of the jellyfish.
"Huh?"
"There are turtles that have lived for -multiple- centuries," she says, smiling to herself, "so I'll probably end up doing the same."

Oh. Well.

"So even when you're an old lady, you'll be able to brag that you've got a beautiful young girlfriend!" she says, smiling at me.
"Umm..."

Charlotte's words cut right into my heart, filling my chest with a warm sensation that feels like... like...

Calm down, Cecile. A public place is NOT the correct place for such feelings.

"You say that now," I mumble while looking away from her, "but will you still love me when I'm all old and wrinkled and you're still young and perfect and sexy?"

Offhand comments are the only release I have at the current moment.

"Of course I will," Charlotte says to me with a wide smile. "And besides, by that point I expect that you'd just start hiding your real appearance behind an illusion."
"Psh, I'm not THAT vain," I scoff. "I'd much rather transfer my brain into an eternally-sexy robot body or clone or something."

Charlotte looks at me and starts laughing.

"Just imagine," I say, "I -am- the sun so I'd just get a solar-powered body and then it'd be like a perpetual motion machine!" I say, joining in her laughter.

Migrating from tank to tank, me and Charlotte goof off while we moving towards the area that Gabrielle is. And at each one, Charlotte makes it a point to have the fish there do something odd and showoffy to make me laugh.

Yeah, this is kind of nice.

And by the time we reach Gabrielle, it's like Charlotte's mood has finally turned completely around.

"Gabrielle," she calls out. "Are you ready to go?"
"Huh?" Gabrielle doesn't even bother to turn around. "What, already?"
"We've been in here for well over an hour," she replies. "And I'm getting hungry."
".........fine..."

Reluctantly, Gabrielle leaves the shark tanks that so captured her attention and takes her sister's hand. Just in time for Charlotte's stomach to growl REALLY loudly.

"I guess that settles what we're going to be doing next, huh," I laugh.
"Please..." Extremely embarrassed, Charlotte's face turns as red as an apple.

And while it's always fun to tease her, I'd rather not spoil the mood that I worked so hard to improve.

"Really though," I say, "are you up for going to a restaurant?" I ask. "Or we could eat at the hotel, but Gabrielle's been cooped up in there so long..."
"A restaurant sounds good," Charlotte nods. "Now let's hurry out of here before my stupid stomach draws any more attention."

While the zoo has a small cafe attached to it, I don't think that Charlotte would really appreciate being forced to spend any more time here in the zoo than she already has so I opt to keep my mouth shut. And so, we end up in a repeat of how things were when we were heading to the reptile house, with me doing my best to keep up with the petite Gauthier sisters.

I guess this is making up for the jogging that I'd otherwise be doing.

>[1/?]

A short taxi ride later (thankfully, the traffic seems to have died down while were were at the zoo), we end up stopping at one of those "bar and grill" style places since it was the closest thing that didn't look run-down or crappy.

Charlotte pretty much runs inside after paying the cabbie, and once a waiter comes to serve us we find ourselves seated in a corner booth area.

"Fish and chips," I say to the waiter as I hand back my menu.
"Lasagna," Gabrielle says, doing the same.
"And you, miss?" he turns to Charlotte.

Charlotte looks up at him.

"What can you tell me about that poster over there?" she asks, pointing to the wall above our booth.
"Er..." the waiter is visibly taken aback. "That's for our 72-ounce steak challenge," he says with a nervous smile. "If you finish the whole thing in an hour then you eat for free, get your picture on our wall of fame and get your name on a plaque... but only like fifty people have actually done it."

He seems weirded out just to be talking to her about it.

"Alright then," Charlotte nods. "Put me in for that."
"Umm, are you sure?" he says, half-laughing. "It's a LOT of meat, and-"
"I'll be fine," she replies.

My lady will not be denied her steak dinner.

"It's got nothing to do with eating for free," Charlotte replies, turning up her nose. "I just happen to -really- like steak, and it's been forever since I last had some."

"Were we going to go anywhere else after we leave here," I ask, "or is it straight back to the hotel?"

Not that I have any strong feelings wither way, of course. I'm just curious.

"I'm fine with going back to the hotel," Gabrielle says. "And Charlotte'll probably be about to pass out after eating half her weight in steak."
"Hey," Charlotte flicks her forehead. "I have a lot of growing to do tonight so I'm just trying to get the 'eating' part of it out of the way sooner rather than later."
"What?" I turn to her with a puzzled expression.
"All that muscle's going to have to come from somewhere, right?"

Oh. I guess that kind of makes sense.

"So the hotel it is?" I shrug.

After conforming our next destinations, the conversation shifts over to food. And by which, I mean that Charlotte asks about Gabrielle's eating habits while she was in the cocoon. Naturally, she's not happy to find that her little sister'd been subsisting solely on pizza and pizza leftovers for the entire time she was out.

Though admittedly, it is kind of partially my fault a little bit. Just a little.

The waiter returns to the table with great fanfare, and Charlotte gets a picture taken of her and all that as a GIGANTIC slab of meat is presented before her. Like, this is as big as those buffalo steaks that Milla eats.

"We wish you luck!" the waiter says pointing up at a digital timer that's set along the molding of the ceiling. I guess this steak challenge of theirs is a really big deal.

Needless to say, they're all shocked when Charlotte finishes off the entire thing before fifteen minutes have passed. And they're even more surprised when she asks for a SECOND steak since she's still hungry.

I'm not sure whether to be proud or embarrassed.

>[2/?]
>>
>>42811886
>[3/3]

Charlotte's decreased size clearly has no effect on her appetite, as she's able to down FOUR whole steaks before the hour timer finally runs down. I start to worry that she'll demand a fifth, but it seems that she's finally hit her limit.

"Stupid human teeth..." Charlotte grumbles while using a toothpick. "...they make it SO much harder to eat this stuff."
"I'm surprised that you even bothered to chew it," Gabrielle says to her.

Charlotte gets a ton of fanfare and congratulations as we leave the restaurant. Not that it's unexpected, of course- she broke the place's record for most steaks eaten in one sitting and even the owner came out to shake her hand after the third one.

Just before I step out the door, I glance back at one of the TVs... it looks like another building's been set on fire.

Or maybe cuttlefish.
She might get all squishy and go full Tessa.
An undine is fine too?
>>
>>42811970
Why isn't Charlotte afraid of being on so many Big Eater Halls of Fame?
Wouldn't that attract unwanted tree related attention?
>>
>>42812083
It's not like her being a tree isn't stupid easy to find out. She's Gauthier's daughter.
>>
>>42811970
Thanks for running.

>>42812003
Supporting this question. How does the steak fit inside her?
>>
>>42812096
Maybe non-tree related attention?
Some urban-legend conspiracy investigators that don't know about tree stuff.

A lady never tells.

The chromatophores wouldn't be too hard to copy, but the shape-changing would very much be.
Plus she wears clothes and that kind of limits things.

>Or maybe cuttlefish.

Charlotte could do this.
Charlotte does not want to do this.

>>42812083
>Why isn't Charlotte afraid of being on so many Big Eater Halls of Fame?
>Wouldn't that attract unwanted tree related attention?
Charlotte's identity is open knowledge as it is so she's not all that afraid of being spotted or anything like that.

And as long as she doesn't try to enter any official eating contests, nobody will bat an eye.

>Who is best idol and why is it Elizabeth Bathory?
Minase Iori is best idol.

And now I go to sleep. Thanks for playing!

She has high powered stomach acid doesn't she?

There's a simple solution to that!

Magical light illusion clothes?

Maybe we should just let CC invisible her if she needs to be.
>>
>>42812336
We have abs for that.

Charlotte with chromatophores, the ability to add "dark_skin" and "tanned" tags to herself at will.
I believe Cecile would appreciate that.

>>42812358
Oh right. Sleep deprivation makes you forget things.
>>
>>42812336
ah. Going without clothes. I bet CC would appreciate that, too.

What's the point of frilly dresses if there's no nice fabric too feel on your skin?
