>Champion info: http://pastebin.com/bNditXfG

The elevator continues on its way up to your floor, after its little divine-intervention based stop.

You know that you shouldn't be taking her words at face value.

You know that Kyla might have had her reasons for what happened.

You know that Tasha is literally called the Traitor.

But if what she said is true... if Kyla really could have set you up with Yui and Boss, but didn't because if some grudge...

As much as you know that losing your cool means that Tasha gets what she wanted... you don't think you could help yourself. This entire time you've been fumbling around in the dark, desperately trying to discover identities only to learn Yui's all too late.

And this entire time, Kyla's had her hand on an easy button.

You know you shouldn't be mad, but you can't help but clench a fist and grind your teeth.

The elevator climbs slowly up to the 7th floor. You think that you have a decision to make...

When you get up to your apartment, you need to-

Agreed, we are still having a talk with Kyla later.
>>
>>42822033
Indeed, her grudge against the gods in general would probably make her too proud to approach any of them, let alone Tasha.
>>
>>42822106
never mind Tasha*
>>
>>42822106
Still, considering what she did to them, I imagine there would be a few who'd just say no.

It might be possible, but that doesn't mean it would work, in her case.
>>
You breathe deeply. You'll confront Kyla later, once you have nothing more urgent to talk about.

The elevator stops, and the doors open to reveal Jessica standing in front of them with her back turned.

"So who the hell was that lady?" She asks. "You got awfully quiet when she got in"

"When she got i-... I never let her in" You say.
"Yeah you did, she's still there" Jessica says. "You okay?"

You turn back to the elevator, and see Tasha smiling and waving as the doors close...

You squeeze your eyes shut. So she didn't teleport Jessica to her apartment, she sent her here with a false memory of the ride...

"Saif?" She asks.

"I'm fine... probably" You say. "But you're not"
"I'm not?" She asks.
"Chances are that you've been standing there for a minute or so if you remember just getting off the elevator" You say.

"What?" She asks.
"That woman was the Traitor- the goddess that made Yui her champion" You say. "She teleported you up here so we could have a private chat"

"That's... what did she want to talk about?" She asks.
"Nothing good" You say. "But still..."

Jessica cocks her head in curiosity.

"Is it possible... I mean..." You say, having trouble finding the right words. "Could Kyla have reached out to the to the other gods to find an ally for me?"

Jessica hums as she thinks. "It's not impossible..." She says. "Though I've heard that she's not all that well liked, so it would be difficult. But there are gods that aren't all that mad about what happened here. Some of the are even sympathetic to her"

"They are?" You ask.
"The Scholar didn't seem to enjoy this bloodsport all that much" She says. "According to him, he only joined because it would give him a pass to study how Earth is progressing"

"Why?" You ask.
"You should ask him that yourself" She says. "Considering the fact that you now have his item, he'll probably be paying you a visit at some point"

"When can I expect that to happen?" You ask.
She shrugs. "I dunno. I figured it would have happened already" She says. "Now come on, we should get back"

>[1/2]
>>
>>42822759
Classic half-truth. Yes, she could have talked to gods, but there was a strong likelihood that they would have said no.
>>
>>42822837
Also, let's face it, in her weakened form it wouldn't exactly have been easy to get around.
>>
"It doesn't bother you that the Traitor messed with you?" You ask.
"It's a bit annoying, but it doesn't seem to have done any harm" She says. "I checked"

"You checked?" You ask. "How did you do that?"
"Quick flush of mana through my pathways" She says. "I'll teach you how to do it sometime. It's really not that hard"

"Maybe tonight, or something. If I'm not too busy" You say.
"Sounds like a da- err... a plan" She says. "Not a date"
"Whatever you say" You say.

You open the door to your apartment and walk in.

Sarah and Kyla appear to be engrossed in something on your laptop. From what you can hear it sounds like a video of some sort. Abigail has a small file, and appears to be filing her nails.

"Hey, what took you guys so long?" Abigail asks.

All choices should be more of a WHAT do you do.

Not a HOW do you do something.
>>
>>42823250
Shoosh.
>>
"I had to stop someone from doing something stupid" You say. "How are things here?"

Abigail shrugs.

You send Sarah and Kyla off to Jessica's apartment so you can talk in private with Abigail and Jessica.

You go over some of your possible strategies with Abigail, including threat assessment and backups.

Your best chance for now seems to be to leave her out so you can confront the spy, though she seems to think that using her as bait will work...

You're against that plan. You've lost one person you care about to the Spy, you don't want to lose another if you fuck up and don't make it to her in time.

But you still leave off any real decisions until after you've spoken to boss. You'll figure out where you stand with him, and then decide on your next course of action.

After a while, you check your watch. 4:45. Time to go...

>[1/2]
>>
You leave the ladies to whatever it is they do when you're not there, and head out. You'll probably give them a call once this is through.

You check your cell while you wait for the elevator. Still cracked. You'll have to get the screen replaced at some point. With your phone in your hand, a stupid idea comes to you. By the time you've realized how stupid it is, your body is already most of the way through executing it.

You flip through your contacts until you find the name you're looking for, and hit call. You know this is a bad idea, but maybe...

"Moshi moshi! Yui desu~ I didn't recognize this number, so I didn't answer. Have a nice day~" *beeeep*

You hang up and put your phone away. That was stupid. You knew what would happen. You knew that nothing would come of it.

But still... some small part of you wanted to believe that she'd answer and put an end to this nightmare...

Some small part of you is a fucking idiot.

Feeling dumber, and more down than you did when you left, you make quick work of the walk to the cafe.

You come in to find the cafe already closed, even though you're a little early. The blinds are down, and the sign is off, so you use your key to open the door and walk in.

It doesn't look like it was open at all today.

Sitting at the counter is Boss, and in front of him is a mostly empty bottle of vodka. He doesn't look happy, or angry.

In all your years you don't think you've ever once seen him like this...

Incidentally, eventually ask why he never checked our pathways, after Yui awakened.

You find 2 kids in the rain, hounded by mystery men, one turns out to be a mage, and you don't confirm the other is, as well?

All it takes is a hug; if we're not a mage, then nothing happens.
>>
>>42823719
Maybe he knew we were a mage and kept us in the dark because he thought we were just a weak bitch that would die during the trial.
>>
>>42823765
From what Smiley's implied, they had no clue. Hilarious, when you realize that Saif awakened long before Yui did.
>>

>>42823719
Super secret magic club rules aside, these guys are family. If your sister is at risk of burning you alive, then you need to know that shit.

Plus, if Boss never knew Saif was involved, how would he have explained Yui's disappearance?
>>
>>42823949
One can see why the Beaumonts wanted magic revealed: mage society sucks, especially when secrets can save or hurt people.
>>
Shadowrun. Jessica is one of Harvey's slaves. She was puppet-ed into killing her husband.

Claire didn't tell her because she knows he's a tool. It's also why she failed in time to show up and help us with that jack ass.
>>
>>42824132
Scholar would have been on Glutton's team, if that was the case.
>>
Boss stands up from his chair, looking tired. Even now he stands a good head taller than you.

He opens his arms, and you give him a hug. Boss has never been one for hugging, but neither you or Yui used to mind. You both had each other, and if one needed a hug then the other was never far.

Until now...

"Yui is gone" You say.
"She is" He says. His voice is shaky.

You step away from him. "Why didn't you tell me anything?" You ask.
"You were not mage. Rules were-"

"I was- I am a mage" You say. "I've always been a mage, ever since the day I escaped that damn mansion"
"I could not-"

"Time magic" You say. "No one could feel it"
"Why didn't you say anything?" He asked.
"I didn't remember awakening. It didn't feel weird to me, so I kept a lid on it" You say.

Boss sits down, and pours out two glasses of straight vodka. "Sit. We have much to say, and my legs are tired"

>[1/2]

>Boss has never been one for hugging

DAMMIT, BOSS.
>>
"You did good job keeping magic secret" He says. "I remember day when Yui awakened like it was yesterday"

"What happened?" You ask.
"She called me in a panic, shouting about fire. So I go over and find her huddled in corner of kitchen, completely covered in flames, crying because she can't put it out" He says, letting out a sad chuckle. "She was a great pyromancer, too good maybe. Never could get a hold of it. Always burning too br-"

The word gets caught in Boss's throat, so he washes it down with vodka. You get the feeling that isn't the first time he's done this today.

"What were you going to tell me when she died, if I wasn't involved?" You ask him.
"Never thought about it" He says. "She was not supposed to die. I was supposed to keep her safe..."

"Then you should have kept her out of this" You say.
"Was not my choice" He says. "When Guardian came to her, she was all gung-ho. We go in on Sunday, and she has beads instead of shield"

He takes another drink before continuing.

"We go in on Monday, and some unknown has Shield. Is okay fighter, but is alone. I look for chance to talk to him inside, but it never comes up. I look for him outside, but is no registered mage with his abilities" He says.

"You couldn't have pulled me aside or something?" You ask.
"You were busy" He says. "Too many enemies, and they would all follow you in. Couldn't find good chance to talk"

You sigh. So they had the same problem you did. "Where you there... you know... when she-"

"I was" He says. "Spy came through wall. Caught us both off guard. I figured he would go for me, since I killed his friend, but..."

"He went for Yui" You say.
Boss nods.

You hang your head and pull at your hair in frustration. "Damn it! I was going to talk to her about this today! I pretty much knew that she was the Traitor... I just... I thought there would be time"

Boss puts a hand on your shoulder. "Yui wanted to flip Coven the finger and tell you everything too" He says. "She didn't like leaving you in the dark about this; The Blood Moon, or magic"

"Figures she would be thinking of me, when her own life was the one in danger..." You say.

"Of course she was, Yui lo-"
"Don't" You say, cutting him off. "I think... I know what you're about to say, and it'll only hurt me now. We should talk business"

"Understood" He says.

>[1/2]

You tell Boss about your short-lived allegiance with Jessica, and your current one with Abigail.

"Abigail seems set on being bait for the Spy" You say.
"You don't think it's a good plan?" He asks.

"Abigail isn't the best fighter, and the Spy is an ambusher" You say. "If anyone baits him, it should be me"
"You think you can take him on?" He asks.
"I think I want to kill that son of a bitch enough that I'd throw away one of my various lives to do so" You reply.

"Is true. If anyone can handle him, it would be you" He says. "How well equipped are you?"

"Jess filled the Scholar's Archive with enough explosives to blow up half the city" You say. "And I have a sword, if that fails"

"Was it you that made that bang last night?" He asks.
"It was" You say.
"With normal explosive" He says.
"I wouldn't really call it a normal explosive..." You say.
"Where in fuck did a teacher get explosive like that?" He asks.

"I dunno, I never really asked" You say.
"Probably better. Sometimes you just don't want to know" He says. "Speaking of, anything else I should know?"

"I ran into my sister yesterday" You say.
"You mean Yui?" He asks.

"No, it turns out that I have a biological sister" You say. "She's the reason why I remember the mansion"

"Is it Safi?" He asks.
"Yeah, lemme guess: we look so much alike?" You ask.
He nods. "She is still with the Hart family then?" He asks.

"She i- how do you know that?" You ask.
"I was there at mansion with Fazim and rest of strike crew. My job was to watch rendezvous point" He says. "Fazim never came back, you and Yui did. I have put 2 and 2 together, but never bothered confirming suspicions"

"Well... yeah. Fazim was my brother" You say. "You were a part of that operation?"
"As back up. Fazim was friend of mine" He says. "Used to talk about taking his little siblings away from their home all the time. Then suddenly he wanted to raid Hart mansion"

"He never said why?" You ask.
"Hart family is trash. Powerful trash, but all the power in the world could not make them anything more than trash" He says. "You don't find many mages that don't hold grudge against them"

"And Fazim is the only one to attack them?" You ask.
"No, he was not first and he wasn't last" He says. "I did say they were powerful trash"

"Well, Fazim managed to off the family's head before he went down" You say. "But now all that's left is Harvey"
"But is not that simple" He says.
"No. He knows that I want Safi, so he's sending her in every night. He won't go in himself until Sunday" You say.

"My 'daughter' is not my daughter" You say. "She's the Guardian"

That seems to surprise Boss. "Little girl is... goddess?" He asks.
"She's too close to losing all of her mana, so she had to take a human form" You say. "And she's not so little anymore"

"Why?" He asks.
"We had a bit of a crisis on Sunday" You say. "Her simulacra didn't match her base form, so it was draining her too quickly. We had to change it so she wouldn't disappear"

"Are you inviting her here?" He asks.
"At some point" You say. "I was going to call her, Jess, and Abby once we were done"

"Abby is Tyrant, yes?" He asks.
"Yeah, did you already know?" You ask.
"Knew Tyrant was Dietrich, no specifics" He says.
"Well, it was her and her two servants..." You say.
"But servants died yesterday to Creator" He says. "You know who she is?"

"She's that pretty French girl I keep making eyes at" You say. "Her and her cousin are the Creator and the Butcher"

"Think you can sway her?" He asks.
"I'm not sure" You say.
"Is worth a try. Too much killing. Too many children" He says. "You know that Spy is Coven, yes?"
"Yeah, but I don't know about the others" You say.

"Judge and Muse are Sacred Mountain" He says, pulling out his phone and showing you a picture. "Husband and wife, using false names Delilah and Samuel Willis"

The picture is of a man and a woman, both with blue eyes and black hair.

"Real names?" You ask.
Boss shrugs.
"What about our hosts?" You ask.

"So... assume that they're hostile until they do something friendly?" You ask.
"Safest bet" He says.

"Hmm... I was actually wondering something else..." You say. "If the Guardian had approached the Traitor or the Smith and asked for an allegiance-"

"I probably would have said yes, even if she is a little trollop" Someone says.

You turn to see a woman emerging from the back. She looks to be about thirty, with short red-orange hair, and a lithe frame with grease stained hands. She wears a pair of worn, stained and loose over-alls over a loose white shirt. Her face is sweaty, and looks stained like her hands.

"Speaking of trollops, you're drinking without me Ivan" She says. "I don't appreciate that"
"I was just meeting with my-"

"My SWORD!" She squeals, and runs over to you. The woman then lifts you out of the chair and hugs you, rubbing her cheek against yours. "Oh! It's been for-EVER"

"Shush" She says, and you can feel a warmth spread through your body. It quickly dissipates. "Whoops, that's probably a bad idea"

"Were you trying to get into my-"
"Your pathways? Yes" She says. "Ivan, you never said your son was a champion"
"I didn't know" He says.

>>

True, but since these gods are born from mortal influence, a god can predominantly take the form of the gender that the culture associates it with.
>>
"Okay, if you put me down I'll pull out the sword" You say.
"You will?" She asks.
"I will" You say.

The Smith releases you and steps back, all the while looking at you with excited anticipation.

You bring the sword into your hands, and she lights up and giggles with glee.

"Still just as lovely as the day I made it" She says, snatching it from your hand. Unlike the time you tried to give it to Jess, it doesn't disappear.
"Why isn't it disappearing?" You ask.
The Smith hugs the sword and rubs her cheek along the flat of the blade. She speaks like an adult speaking to a baby. "Because she knows who her mommy is" She says. "Yes she does"

"Huh..." You say. "So are all the gods female or something?"
"No, why would you think that?" She asks.
"Because all the ones I've met have been female" You say.

The smith gives you another stupid look, and sits down next to Boss. "We all have different preferences when it comes to the gender of our human forms" She says. "I personally prefer the flat-chested female. Less stuff getting in the way, and the male genitalia are far too dangly for my tastes"

"You've met other gods?" Boss asks.
"Well... I met Kyla, the Traitor, and now you" You say.
"Kyla's a special case, 'cause she wasn't formed the same way" She says. "Trait's... likes having tits. Seriously, if you talked to her you'd know"

"I got that impression" You say.
"There's a bit more to it, but it's basically all about preference" She says.
"Do you have to take human form?" You ask.
"No, but it's polite to. This is your world, after all" She says. "That, and some of the older ones know forms that can't technically exist by modern physical laws. Not fun to look at"

"Noted" You say

>[1/2]
>>
"Now, when you say older..." You say.
She gives you another stupid look. "Yes, some of us are older than others" She says. "Did you think we all popped out at the same time?"

"No... I'm not really sure what I thought" You say. "Where do you come from?"

"Minds, and ideas" She says. "When an idea comes from a mind and gains traction with other minds, if there isn't already a god to represent it, the wellspring forms one"

"Were any of you born here?" You ask.
"Nnnope" She says. "Well... other than the obvious exception"

"Where were you born then?" You ask.

The Smith looks at you, and starts laughing. "Wayyyyyyyyyy out there" She says. "So far that your kind will likely never see the light that thir sun gave off"

"Was it in a different galaxy" You ask.
"Something like that" She says. "Either way, the people whose minds gave rise to me are long gone now. We're all like that, you know. Born from races that have long since passed on"

Like I said, if it was anyone but The Traitor.

From what Kyla said, the Sun/Moon/Mana dynamic is something that isn't found a lot.

"Sounds lonely" You say.
"It can be" She says. "The other gods are generally either fucktards or busy as hell, so yeah... it gets lonely"

"Is that why Earth is so important to you all?" You ask. "Because there are no other worlds around at the moment?"
"Oh, there are tonnes of other worlds with living, sentient beings on them" She says. "But still... this one is unique"

"How?" You ask.
"For one thing, your Sun gives of a ridiculous amount of Mana" She says. "I can't vouch for the others gods, but your sun puts out as much in 5 minutes as the one where I was born put out in a year"

"That much?" You ask.
"The comparison varies, but it's always pretty uneven" She says. "The other reason would be... ingenuity"

"Ingenuity?" You ask.
"I think that's the word" She says, standing and giving the sword a quick swing in a spot where it won't hit anyone. "The people here are interesting, and creative. My creators never came up with something as simple as this. When I came here, the sword was a foreign idea. But not only had you created it, but your smiths had made hundreds of different styles and types, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. On top of that, your warriors had a hundred more ways to use the sword for maximum effect"

"So... no one else has come up with the sword?" You ask.
"Not no one... they just... didn't take to it with the same bravado as you did" She says. "Magic is another thing. This world has such an abundance of magic, that your moon's stored energy is enticing even to those with infinite power"

"Much to our dismay" You say.
"True, we aren't the nicest about it. But that abundance of magic has allowed you to look at the power of gods through the eyes of mortals" She says. "Your advances in those areas have been fascinating; but they aren't really my cup of tea"

"More the Scholar's thing?" You ask.
"Yeah" She says, taking another sip of vodka. "He'd have a hoot with you. You should watch out for him. I believe he looks like a middle aged man, talks with some sort of accent from... uhh..."

"British?" You ask.
"That's the one!" She says.
"I may have met him already..." You say.

Well shit

>>42827520
Have a good one boss, see you next time
>>
>>42827569
Our teacher is probably Spy; the timing of his disheveled look in class fits the death of Liar and Shifter, the previous night.

Probably just a coincidence.

Does our physics teacher have a british accent?
>>
>>42827709
yes he does.

So am I getting this right Claire killed our old physics teacher so the god of knowledge had to fill in?
>>
>>42827740
You're not Smiley, but I'll pretend you're infallible because i don't feel like archived digging. So when the physics teacher was crying about his friends dying, maybe he was crying about the deaths of other gods or something?
>>
>>42827767
Naw, man, if gods died, I have a feeling the others would freak right the fuck out.
