Things have been calm and peaceful lately.

The reconstruction after all the damage Tianna suffered during the Silver Prince's assault is going along nicely, and life is slowly returning back to normal for its inhabitants.

For you, after your exaltation, what constituted a "normal" life is open to debate, but things are looking up.

Your wedding, with which you will become officially queen of Tianna (a role that you've essentially covered unofficially up to now, and more), has been scheduled for the 15th of Resplendent Earth: The next full moon. A bit more than two weeks away, enough to finish repairs to your Manse, Golden Reach, and prepare everything for the ceremony.

This will also be a good chance to present your new kingdom officially. A public occasion. So it's in everyone's interest, and especially yours, for everything to be perfect, or as close to perfect as you can manage.

(OOC: How would you prefer me to run the next two weeks of game time?)

>Play them out in detail, even if nothing important is going to happen. We deserve some relaxing Slice of Life.
>Let's play until we decide we don't have anything left to do until the wedding, then we'll timeskip ahead.
>Play a few scenes, timeskip the rest with some input on what happens while we fast-forward.
>Play it all as a timeskip: let's decide on what Maka does for those two weeks, then let's fast-forward up to the ceremony or so.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
Now you have built a solid power base, and worked hard to draw the attention and earn the trust of the Unconquered Sun. What will your next step be?

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Let's go with this, I can think of a few things I want to do, like get the Gem Recon Party set up and meet the Mountain Folk, but if nothing else comes up we can timeskip or even decide not to timeskip if we change our mind later.

This is also assuming they even care to meet us or if they stay in the earth below the titan.

I don't mind training Milly, but we did promise to train his mercs after the battle.

"Well, I'll give you a training session for today, if you're alright with it." You say to Millian, stretching your back. "If you plan to go running around in dangerous places alone, you'll need to handle yourself. Besides, I plan on finishing a of your trainings fairly soon if possible."

"...Do you mean I can become even stronger?" Pyre Spark stares at her own palms in surprise. "I thought you had already trained me to the limit of what a human body could endure."

As Millian and Regis finish cleaning the kitchen, you ruffle her hair. "Yes, but you're not really a normal human anymore. You've had my blessing, the Kiss of the Sun, and now that your Essence is awakened, you can become even stronger." You turn to Millian, who has been overhearing your conversation with a look of amazement in her eyes. "Yes, you too. In just a few day, I can train you to be faster and stronger than nearly any other mortal in Creation."

"...Will you really do that?" She asks, cleaning her hands with a towel and tossing it back into a basket, turning towards you.

"I can't think of many people who'd deserve it more than you. You've served me faithfully until now, and done more than your share of work in many ways." You nod. "Get into your most comfortable clothes and meet me in Silk's realm in half a hour."

"Y, yes!" She replies.

And, half a hour later, she shows up... in her usual maid clothes.

"...Really?" You sigh.

"I really DO feel comfortable in this!" She points out, defensively. "It's part of who I am! Besides, you wear impractical outfits all the time!"

Regis and Pyre, who accompanied her in the strange fairy realm within your Manse you use for training, giggle.

"Let's change the subject." You interrupt her, not liking where this conversation is going.

>Give her some basic training. (Physical)

Just a reminder that Physical increases health levels, so it's objectively better for mortals than increasing skills. We should only work on Dawn/Zenith once we've maxed Physical out.
>>
>>42831958
>>Work on her skill with weapons. (Dawn)
I think we've already done her Physical once and if we're going to do it all anyway let's even things out before heading forward.

For the others, how about raising their Zenith since I don't think we've worked on that at all with any of them.
>>
>>42831958
>>Work on her skill with weapons. (Dawn)

>(Decide for a training curriculum for all three your subordinates for the next weeks)
I vote we do a regular rotation between the three of them in blocks of 3 days each.

In each 3 day block we increase each stat onceunless we're at the limit in which case we increase others instead.

We teach these 3 day blocks until the wedding when we begin to uphold our deal to the Steelshard Company.

For full stats on each of them we need, 4 days for Regis, 7 for Millian, and 4 or 5 for Pyre depending on what her Zenith is at. I say we focus on Phys and Dawn before moving on to train the Steelshards and then we can come back and train their Zenith

"First of all." You fold your arms and glance at the pocket realm all around you. "Give me five laps."

"Er." Millian was about to start running, but catches herself. "Five laps of what?"

You shrug. "Those mountains?" Like it wasn't obvious.

Millian deflates. "No, look, we don't all have your crazy constitution. I can't do it." She looks up the jagged mountainside. "Not even sure I can climb it at all."

"You can do it." You reassure her. "Just follow my directions, and never doubt yourself."

"I was hoping that, you know. You'd teach me to use a weapon or-"

"We need to cover the basics first." You interrupt her. "Millian. Mountain."

She groans, and begins to climb. "...No idea how long you expect me to take."

"For five laps?" You give a second glance to the mountain range surrounding the realm. "About a hour?"

"That's insane." She stops and looks at you like you lost your mind.

"You need to make it in less than one hour." You walk up next to her and begin to climb up the rocky slope alongside her. "Because we need to leave time for the rest."

She groans louder, but with you following her for the ride, she can't quite muster herself to refuse at this point. She begins to climb, not looking too convinced.

[TIGER WARRIOR TRAINING TECHNIQUE]

When she finally hits the brick wall, she collapses. She pleads, she complains, she argues that she isn't built for it. She tries to talk you out of it. She picks herself up, falls again. She pukes her guts out.
She completes the final lap in 110 minutes, which is about 10 minutes less than you thought she'd take.

The little girl shows some promise.

After four hours of grueling physical training, she lies on the ground, panting, sweating, and essentially amorphous, as Regis pitifully hands her a bucket of water.

You can see in her eyes that she wants to say something incredibly mean to you, but she just can't muster the breath to do so.

(cont.)
>>

>>
>>42832250
>You can see in her eyes that she wants to say something incredibly mean to you, but she just can't muster the breath to do so.
I was about to ask if we should insult ourselves as a joke to cheer her up, then I wondered what would happen if Maka succeeded in a Social Attack on herself.
>>
>>42832273
We should get the mercs say so first, we have a professional contract with them and the promise of training was their payment, trying to put it off for too long without clearing it with them is bad manners, like your boss trying to hold off your paycheck while he pays his favorites first.
>>
>>42832335
Yeah that's why I think we can't push it back to after our operation in the neck or our counterstrike on Skullstone. Asking for them to hang out for a week in relative comfort seems like an agreeable situation for them.

"I'm impressed." You congratulate her instead. "Going at this rate you'll all have completed your training by..."

You think about it and make a guess. "...two weeks, give or take a few days. By then you'll be the most fearsome Tiger Warriors in the West."

"Really?" Pyre wonders, starry-eyed.

"Well, as far as I know." You grin. "But before we continue anything tomorrow, I need to see with the Steelshards and agree on a few things. I promised I'd train them as well, after all."

Regis seems suspicious. "Are you going to give them our same training?" He almost sounds... a bit jealous? "Isn't it risky? I mean, they're on our side, sure, but they're mercenaries. Do you really trust them this much. Or... aren't there like, secret techniques or anything you're going to keep from them?"

>I'm going to give them your same training, just... yours can go further as you're now Sun-Kissed, so you don't have to worry.

You give a playful shrug. "Oh, I'm going to give them your same training, just... yours can go further as you're now Sun-Kissed, so you don't have to worry. At the end of it, you'll be heads and shoulders above them."

You look down at Millian and Regis looking back up at you.

"Metaphorically." You add.

Millian, who has by now recovered almost entirely (at least the ability to talk), asks you one last thing before you leave. "...What... what weapons are you going to train me with?"

A light shining inside her eyes tells you that this is Important for her. And you can understand. As a normal, barely teenage servant girl given the opportunity to become a superpowered badass, she's also worried about looking cool.

"How do you feel about using knives?" You ask her, flashing a smile.

She frowns a bit. "Like there's some kind of joke hidden there that I don't get."

"Well, you already use knives in the kitchen, so I figured out you'd be used to them." You justify yourself. "But we'll see about it later. For now, focus on resting." You pat her head before walking out of Silk's realm. "I'll go and have a chat with mister Steelshard."

The Steelshard camp is not too far outside Golden Reach, and well within the territory that's supposed to become part of the city. A palisade surrounding a complex of tents and clearings erected with marvelous military efficiency. You have to admit you'd be impressed if you weren't already aware of their skill and competence.

Your arrival doesn't go unnoticed (not in the least) and as soon as you've crossed the gates to the camp, Erman Steelshard comes forth to see you. No longer clad in armor and full kit, he's wearing a form-fitting black suit with a loose dark red tunic over it, but always has his sword on his belt.

"Lady Maka." He greets you with respect, though without much reverence. "I imagine you've been busy since the battle. I heard some rather crazy stories about what happened in Tianna City."

"A lot of things have been going on in a lot of ways." You nod. "But, for my part, I heard nothing but praise for your role in this battle."

He smiles knowingly, but says nothing.

Inform him about our plans to take over Skullstone.
Also, we intended to employ the mercs as escorts for Silk to explore some unused demesnes on our territory.

Not really, I mean we were going to ask them, but not like as a separate job, just another order as part of their current contract

"Well, about your promised payment in the form of Tiger Warrior Training for your men? We can start whenever you want."

He nods and smiles. "I thought you were going to say you had forgotten about that."

"I don't go back on my word, and I always repay my debts." You reply sternly.

"How long do you think it would take?" He asks. "You claimed you could pack years of training into mere weeks thanks to your magic, but even if it's just weeks, I'd like to know how many weeks we're talking about."

"I think..." You look around yourself, inspecting the soldiers all around the camp, at work, sparring, and at rest. "...I'd say... three weeks."

"How does this magic work?Do those three weeks need to be back-to-back without pauses?"

"It works by week." You explain. "Why are you asking?"

"I heard about your marriage. Congratulations, by the way. I mean, I never heard about a two-way marriage between three women, but I guess things work differently for the Exalted. Still, be happy." He sounds just a smidge sarcastic, but his wishes sound genuine. "It's in two weeks, right?"

You nod. "Yes, and I've got plans for a honeymoon right after that."

He doesn't voice his next question, but it's quite clear in his expression.

"Maybe a couple of weeks more, maybe a month, I don't know yet."

"It's a long wait." He kicks a rock on the ground, absent-mindedly. "I was hoping we could get this fabled magic blessing from you, and then move on to our next job. It's not that I don't like your hospitality, but we aren't keen on wasting time here waiting for you to come back."

I actually really like this idea. We should look all the more impressive for the fact that we're training a small mercenary army as well.

Ask if this would be okay first. 2 weeks training before the wedding then one while at sea. If it's not then:

It only takes four hours per training per day. We can do both.
>>
>>42833442
But we can only do the training once a day, we can't train them both on the same day.
>>
>>42833442
The four hour limit is on you, not on them. You can only do one training session per day.
>>
>>42833451
>>42833455
Wait, what? I thought it was only four hours per person/entity we're training per day. We've doubled up on days before already, like back when we were training our pirate captains. That we could spend 24/25 hours in a day training six different entities, as long as we didn't train the same entity twice in that daily period.
>>
>>42833425
We could train her the slow way along with the mercenaries and give her the 4 dot treatment after we are done with that.
>>
>>42833498
That only works if she's part of their contiguous unit. If she's not a member of the mercenary band, she can't be trained alongside them.
>>
>>42833495
>We've doubled up on days before already, like back when we were training our pirate captains
Pretty sure that never happened. We only ever trained one Pirate Captain separately and then after that we did the big group training for like two weeks.

>>42833498
I'm not sure if that would work, I remember EF saying so once when we talked about inserting Pyre into the pirates training and EF said no.
>>
>>42833455

Can Silk's place accelerate the time it'll take, or is it already counted in?
>>
>>42833564
Silk's place would probably just cut it from 4 hours to 2 hours. The 'once per day' bit probably has more to do with the metaphsical day as determined by the passing of the sun than it does with the actual passage of time. That kind of shit's important for Solars.

"Actually, my honeymoon is also an official visit of sorts, and I'll need an impressive escort. Wouldn't you mind coming along? That way we can get your men's training done along the way."

The mercenary captain frowns. Deeply. "You expect me to get my soldiers, like, what? Shiny armor, colorful uniforms, vibrant plumage? A musician, maybe weapons drills, maybe a dance routine? These people are fighters. They're not for show."

You shrug. "That's what I can offer to you. You can think of it as vacation. A cruise. Fully paid, of course. You'll be in my care. Just as long as no one misbehaves."

"Misbehaves?" He laughs. "Lady, do you have any idea what's an average mercenary's idea of fun?"

You roll your eyes. "I can imagine it entails a vast quantity of alcohol, a modicum of horseplay and tomfoolery, good food, and an appreciable company of the favored sex whether freely obtained or paid for. All things I can tolerate, heck, even endorse. But I'd appreciate if you made it perfectly clear to your men that they will not put me in a bad light with the people of the Neck."

He lets out a long sigh. "Well, if you're paying, I guess no one can complain. I'll rein them in, I'll even get them to polish their armor and wear clean pants for once. Maybe they'll even bathe. But no one's going to put any feathers anywhere, you hear me?"

"I hear you." You reply, unconvinced. "We're starting tomorrow. Get your men ready. We're doing two weeks in Tianna, the last week in the Neck. Clear things with your subordinates and officers."

Once you've settled things with the mercenaries, what's your next plan?

You move over to Ririth's rooms.

Considering her... well, nature and situation, which are both very easily misunderstood, you've had a large buy fairly out-of-the-way room assigned to her, complete with a lock she has the key of, for her privacy. You wouldn't want someone to stumble into her by accident and misunderstand things.

Of all the mortal staff in Golden Reach, only Millian, Regis and a few others are brave enough to bring food and room service to her (or rather, they know that she doesn't eat people.

You knock.

A giant dragonfly, made of rainbow-colored crystal and as huge as a grown horse, opens the door for you and invites you in.

Actually, you can't blame the mortal, thinking about it.

Your skin begins to crawl as you walk into Ririth's abode. More than a few demons of alien shapes and colors lingers about, rather reminiscent of freeloaders lounging about in a friend's house. Several more are dematerialized, but you can feel them. The room is dark, its air heavy with smoke and essence. Drums beat in a distance that doesn't have the space to actually exist.

A scarab the size of your fist drops on your head and skitters down your back.

"Ririth." You approach the demon-blooded woman, resisting the urge to facepalm. "What the literal hell."

"Oh, come on." She immediately pleads, dropping her cards on the table and leaving the game she was playing with a giant blood-soaked spiny ape, a deer made entirely of white maggots, and a frozen pillar of colorless silver fire. Judging by the chips on the table, she was losing. "They're not hurting anyone! They're my friends!"

>>
>>42834583
If we aren't using them we should send them back. Demons should only be kept around if the help they are providing outweighs the risk of some important secret falling into the hands of the Yozi.
>>
>>42834637
Probably not, she's just a demon-blooded, not an actual demon. Which mean she isn't an actual part of a Yozi, just descended from one
>>
>>42834646

Ririth likes having them around, it's enough for me. We accepted self-admited omnicidal maniacs and Fae in our home, demons aren't worse.

Beside, if we're stopping them from coming because we're afraid of secrets being leaked to the Yozi, then we should be warry of Ririth, too. Nothing stopping her from giving the secrets herself.

I trust Ririth, myself.
>>
>>42834674

And why does it makes her less likely to give secrets to them?
>>
"...They can stay, but you'll have to keep them under control. And they're not allowed to leave your room, young lady." You sternly warn her. For a moment, interpreting your raised tone of voice as aggression perhaps, the other demons seem to draw closer, stand up and advance towards you threateningly.

A flash of your castemark and a very mean glare stops them in their tracks for long enough to Ririth to pacify them.

"It'll be alright." She promises. "They do what I say. They're all just first circle! Don't be mean with them. They can help around a bit! And, uh..."

"Don't try too hard." You sigh, sitting down on a nearby chair. A slender woman wreathed in music apologetically shoves a drink in your hands with her tentacle-fingered hands and bows. You're not too sure you should be drinking it. "I just... You've been helpful, a lot, and you're also, well... don't take this the wrong way, but you're closely connected to someone of importance in Malfeas. Those two things together make you a honored guest, and here in Golden Reach you'll have a home for as long as you care to stay. But there are rules and Demons are quite... alien to Creation, as you know. I just want to avoid incidents."

"Oh, speaking of which." She rummages in her clothes (scant as they are, you can't imagine them holding much... but apparently you're wrong.) and produces a letter, which she hands to you. "My dad apologizes, but he, er, won't be able to come to your wedding."

You're not sure how to respond to that.

You stare at the letter, your brain drawing an utter blank, for several seconds.

Made from yellowish paper with the feel of leather at the touch, the envelope seems both incredibly sturdy and about to spring open of its own volition in your hands at the slightest provocation. A masterful hand has penned, in impeccable Old Realm calligraphy and emerald-green ink, the words: "To the thrice-blessed MAKA, Queen of Tianna and Gem, Princess of Creation, Pillar of Heaven."

yes, when certain conditions are met a specific demon can slip into creation unbound. Neomah for example get free if a family mourns a stillborn child for example.

Yet, sometimes as it rises or sets, the solar disc inexplicably flashes green and Ligier is briefly drawn to the side of a remarkable mortal with-out the call of sorcery. Only a smith performing the masterstrokes of a perfect work of brass, a mortal prince leading his army against Exalted foes, or a blindingly beautiful queen seizing control of a court while unwed can catch his attention thus. In such cases, the Green Sun has little time before the onset of day or darkness sends him back to Malfeas."

After maybe too long a pause, you lift your eyes and ask Ririth: "...How... how did you even receive this letter?"

She shrugs. "My dad gave it to me." Like that explains everything.

Trying to calm yourself down, you pop the envelope open and try and pull the letter out of it.

Instead, the envelope becomes the letter. At least that's what you think just happened: you no longer have the envelope in your hands, and instead you're holding a square of thick, yellow, leather-like paper.

In the same hand, and in the same green ink, you read:

"MAKA the thrice-blessed,

Greetings! I hope this letters finds you well.
I apologize for not being able to attend your wedding, because of reasons you can doubtlessly imagine. I would have loved to meet you personally, and thank you for the aid and shelter you have given to my beloved child RIRITH, for which I am much obliged.
I ho, however, hope we'll be able to meet face to face soon. There are a few things I would love to discuss with you in person.
Until such a day occurs, you have my best wishes for happiness in marriage and success in any other endeavors.

Signed, LIGIER."

The letter ends with a sharply-drawn symbol in green ink that makes your head spin.

"...No, seriously, how did you get this letter." You glare at Ririth.

"My dad gave it to me, I told you." She replies.

"Isn't he, you know, sealed in another plane of existence?"

"He can still write every now and then." She explains. "Not too often. But once or twice a month he can get a letter through."

"So it just... appears in your hands?"

She nods.

"So... did you write him about the wedding? That's why he knew?"

She averts her gaze.

You frown deeper.

"...Er... yes." She finally gives in to your pressure. "I wrote him about your wedding and how awesome it was shaping up to be and... eh. Some... other things."

"Like what?"

"...I told him that if you could you'd probably have invited him!" She confesses.

"I never said that!" You respond.

"I'm sorry." She whimpers.

"Think about it! What if you accidentally caused a huge misunderstanding?"

She mumbles "I'm sorry" again, but in an even meeker tone.

You soften up. "...It's okay, you didn't mean any harm. I was just upset. Just make sure no one gets into trouble."

The two of you relax a bit afterwards, and make peace.

"...So, what about Aexel?" You ask her all of sudden, catching her by surprise.

She winces. "What ABOUT him?"

You grin. "I don't know, you looked quite comfortable together."

"B-but he's a sorceror!"

"And you don't like sorcerors, I know. But come on. He was nice, wasn't he?" You lean closer and poke her in the ribs.

"...he was nice, but... are you always like this?" She asks defensively.

"You mean if I always try to push together people around me who seem to have some interest in each other?" You ask back. "I prefer to think of myself as an angel of love."

She groans. "Either power or Millian went to your head, huh." Is her defeated comment.

You stand up and pull her up with you. "Oh, come on. I only try to do my best. Speaking of which, you said you liked dancing once, right? Feel like dancing a bit?"

She smiles, standing up as well. "I can ask Angya to play some music for us."

"It's okay. I got this." You reply, holding her hand with your right and snapping your finger with your left. Cheerful, upbeat music springs from your Anima as it emits a soft glow and surrounds you.

She smiles, putting her other hand on your hip and following your first moves. "You're full of surprises."

"You have some nice surprises yourself." You respond with a sly grin.

Doubt it. Unless something's been changed and I missed/forgot it, Ligier has the highest possible base dice pool for the roll-off, gets bonus die due to being a third circle, might get more bonus die for being a fetich, and has a power to negate any penalty to his pools, making spending extra motes on the spell pointless as well (though that ability might've been something my ST gave him instead of something he always has; he was a little mad we were going to cheese him into Oblivion - literally).

I've been following the quest for a while, and it inspired me to write a bit.

I don't pretend to be a good writer, but if there's one thing I like, it's looking at the perspective of the little guy. In a world of heroes of magic, what of the commoners, the shopkeepers, the soldiers?

This story retells the events from the quest up to now, but told from a different perspective. It's not much, but I hope you enjoy it.
