You put your phone back in your pocket and step out of the back room. Boss stepped out for a minute. One of his cousins has supposedly been studying time magic, and he thought that they might be able to help you learn it. So he went out to contact them, leaving you here with the Smith.

"All right, they're on their way" You say.
"Who's all coming?" The Smith asks, as she balances your sword on her finger.

"Jessica, Abigail and Kyla" You say.
"They would be... The Scholar's old champ, the Tyrant's current champ, and the Guardian herself?" She asks.
"Spot on, I'd be impressed if I didn't know you were a goddess" You say.

"Even I have trouble keeping track of all these details" She says. "So many of you, most of whom will end up dead. I try not to commit to remembering the less important ones"

"And what abou-"
"Don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't hold value to life" She says. "You all just... go by so very quickly"
"Speaking from personal experience?" You ask.

"Something like that..." She says.

It occurs to me that both asking what she means and asking what being a god is like are pretty much the same question.

You force the sword back out of your pathways, and give it a flourish.

"So dropping that topic because it's depressing as hell. What exactly is so special about this thing?" You ask.
"What exactly is so spe-... I should take it away from you for that" She says

"It's an honest question" You say. "I'm still kind of new"
"Alright... you get a pass. But just this time" She says. "Give it here"

You hand her the sword, and she holds it out at length.

"I'm sure you've noticed by now that it can dissolve into pure mana" She says.

"I did. I think Jess explained why it does that" You say.
"It can do that because the materials are purely magical. A mundane item couldn't do that" She says.

"So it's similar to the 'boons'?" You ask.
"Now you're getting it" She says. "Except the boons are powered by the Blood Moon itself, and this is not"

"What happens when you power it?" You ask.
"Pure destruction" She says, giving the sword a swing. "It amplifies and weaponizes your innate ability, but only if your ability is older than matter itself"

"I heard that bit" You say. "But what does 'weaponizing' my time magic entail?"
The Smith shrugs. "I dunno. It's only been used twice, both times were during Blood Moons when its wielder was opened up to the wellspring"

"What happened then?" You ask.
"Well, the first time I was meddling when I shouldn't have been because I wanted to see it in action" She says. "The man was a space user, and the sword let loose... force. Like a wave that crushed everything against it. The second time was light, which was less interesting"

Can the wish be used to turn back time?
>>
>>42856192
Maybe wielding our power through the sword is the key to making that wish happen.
>>
>>42856192
Remember, no one, normally, can go back in time with a wish. Saif, however, can jack his time magic up to a point that he can do so (theoretically). The real question would be to ask if he can utilize his powers in such a way, with the help of a wish.
>>
"So what is the wellspring?" You ask.
"It's supposedly the center and origin point of the universe" She says. "When a new idea comes to it, it gives birth to a god to represent that idea"

>All things begin

"If it shoots out a new one whenever it gets a new idea... just how many of you are there?" You ask.
"More than the hundred that gathered here" She says. "The ones here are just the ones that care about this planet or its mana"

"So what are you here for?" You ask.
"I like this place" She says. "It's cozy, and there are still a ton of people that fall under my purview. If Kyla's coming I'll have to see if I can't sweet talk my way into her good graces"

"I doubt that will work, but it's worth a try" You say.
"Yeah... she's got a real hate on for us" The Smith says. "Not that I blame her. The things she went through... none of that was right"

"None of this is right" You say.
"I see that you're of a mind with her" She says. "You know, humans fight and kill each other all the time. Often it's for far less than what we offer"

"And I personally dislike that fact" You say. "I understand that complete peace is a long shot, but I don't enjoy being made into a plaything for a bunch of divine-"

"Champion" She says. "Not plaything. The title earns you a modest amount of respect among even us. When your sister died, I was here to keep Ivan company. The same was true for Abigail and the Spy when their allies died. You're not just pawns to us"

Shooosh! Don't point out flaws!
>>
"I get that you're trying to make this out to be a good thing, but you're forgetting that all of those people would all still be here if not for the Blood Moon" You say. "In fact, I wouldn't be here. I would still be in my home, because the Hart family wouldn't have felt the need to kidnap me so they could add me to their army of thralls"

"Well..."

"And another thing. You don't honestly expect me to believe that any of the people who picked those thralls honestly gave a damn about their Champion, do you?" You ask.

"Alright! Alright, I may have been a little skewed by my own view" She says. "You know how when you're a smart person, you expect that other people will be at least as smart as you are? Kinda like that"

"It's nice to see that the beings with massive cosmic powers have human flaws" You say. "Nice. Very comforting"
"We have hearts, we have minds" She says. "We're prone to greed, and squabbling, and hate. But it also means that we can feel empathy and kinship... and sometimes even love"

"Are you coming on to me?" You ask.
"Fuck no" She says. "You're not my type"
"Thank god for that" You say, flopping into a chair. "I don't think I could handle yet another lady giving me the eyes, let alone a goddess"

"What eyes, these eyes?" She asks, giving you a smoldering look.
"Stop that" You say.
"Sorry, but you're fun to tease" She says. "And you also seem to have bounced back pretty quickly"

"Bounced back from what?" You ask.
"From... you know... last night" She says.

"Oh... yeah" You say. "I'm burying those things for the time being. I'll have time to cry and mourn when I have time to cry and mourn to spare. Which probably won't be until this is all over"

"Sound" She says. "Probably unhealthy in the long term, but it's a good way to keep yourself alive"
"I'm not too worried about myself, to be honest" You say.
"It's good for that too" She says.

The Smith kills the rest of the vodka while you wait for everyone to arrive.

"There. All done" She says.
"Do you even get drunk?" You ask.
"No. This was for Ivan's good. He's been drinking far too much since last night" She says.
"I guess this hit him pretty hard" You say.

"Like a truck" She says. "And he is not a pretty crier"

You grimace at the thought. It almost makes you feel bad for being able to keep it together, when you know that you should by all rights be an emotional wreck right now.

You're actually starting to worry about the others. It does not take this long to get here from your apartment. Maybe one of them messaged you...

[Abby <3]>Change of plans. We're meeting at Ms. B's warehouse instead of the cafe

Fuck... you received that 5 minutes ago. This thing isn't broken, is it? You turn the vibrate function on and off, and get nothing.

It must have fucked itself up since this morning. Obviously the drop did more to it than you thought...

"What's up?" The Smith asks.
"Change of plans. Meeting's happening elsewhere" You say.
"How far?" She asks.
"Not walking distance" You say. "And I don't think Boss is okay to drive"

"Not the issue" You say. "The warehouse is supposed to be a secret place. Chances are high that people will have their eyes on Abby now"

"So you want them to come here?" She asks.
"The way I see it, people will already know about this place" You say. "I have recently been informed that the Malikovs are fairly well known"

"That they are" She says. "Good call"

"Then we've got some time to kill" She says.

"Not really" She says. "Is it good?"

"I like it, but I like it as a functional drink" You say. "Want one?"
"Suuure, why not" She says.

You nod and turn on the coffee brewer. You figure that Jess and maybe Abby will take some as well.

"Okay" You say, as the brewer starts running. "You said that it takes a lot of mana to use the sword, but how do I put energy into it?"

"Same way you would with you hand. Once the sword has accepted you, it becomes you" She says. "Until you die, only I can take it away"

You open your eyes to see the Smith again, looking down on you with a worried expression.

"Wuzzgoinon?" You ask.
She breathes a sigh of relief. "I thought you might be a goner for a second there" She says, before smacking your forehead. "You can't just use the sword like that. Once you open the channel to it, it's meant to drain until it's full"

You try to sit up, and find that you're too weak to do so. "Why?" You ask. You turn your head to see just what's around you. You're still behind the counter, with your head in the Smith's lap.

"Uhhh... heh heh... A bit of a design flaw on my part" She says. "When I made it that way, I didn't think it would take so much energy to fire..."
"So it kills you if you try to use it?" You ask.
"... yes" She says. "Which is why it's only been used by people who have been opened to the wellspring"

"How did you stop it?" You ask.
"I took it from you" She says. "I took it away and then charged you a bit"

"Please tell me you didn't kiss me" You say.
"I already said that you aren't my type" She says. "And you already know that you don't have to kiss someone to connect with them"

"You could have just let me die, you know" You say. "It wouldn't be the first time"
The Smith's expression drops.

"That didn't occur to you, did it?" You ask.
"No it did not" She says.

You sigh, and try to sit up again. You're successful this time, but you feel drained. You can barely keep your eyes open like this, never mind fight...

"Shit..." You say, clutching your head with one hand. It hurts. You had no idea that mana deprivation could hurt. "Maybe next time you could lead with the dangerous part"
"Maybe next time you could think before you use a weapon of immense power" She says. "I mean, really. Even if you did have the mana to fire it, what were you going to do with it in here?"

"I guess you're right" You say. "I don't suppose you could open me up to the wellspring, could you?"
"No" She says. "Not even out of curiosity. I got in real shit last time"

"I could see that" You say. Suddenly feeling faint, you fall backwards. The Smith catches you before your head hits the ground.

"You gonna be okay?" She asks.
"I could use a boost" You reply weakly.
She sighs. "I already gave you mana. I could get in shit for this" She says.
"What about if I give you permission?" You ask.
"Well... I could do it then. Some of the other gods might not like it..." She says. "Do I have your permission?"
"Only to give mana, nothing more" You say.

She rolls her eyes and places your head back in her lap. "Like I'd find anything new in your head" She says. The Smith puts both of her hands on your head, and closes her eyes.

You feel a slight tingle, nothing like the heat and discomfort of the other times you've given or received mana.

"You're good at this" You say.
"It's all about where you put it" She says. "Most just force it in like they were moving it to their own body. That doesn't work when you're giving it to someone else"

"So how are you doing this?" You ask.
"I'm using a point of reference in your pathways to move the energy to, so it flows in more naturally" She says.
"The sword?" You ask.
"Yyep" She replies
"I thought so" You say.

Within a minute you're feeling better, and you're off the ground. You finish making coffee for yourself and everyone else, and sit down to chat with the Smith until everyone else arrives.

Which luckily isn't too long after.

"Yo" You say as Jess, Abby and Kyla enter the shop. "Coffee's here for you"
"Coffeeeeeeeeee" Jess says, rushing over to the counter.

"What is she doing here?" Kyla says with a venomous tone.
"Nice to see you too, junior" The Smith says.

"Don't call me that" Kyla says.
"What would you prefer? Kid? Newbie?" The Smith asks.
"You should be calling me by my name" Kyla says.

"Which one?" The Smith asks.
"Whichever" Kyla replies. "Saif?"

"The Smith has just as much of a reason to be here as you do" You say. "She is Boss's goddess, after all"

"By that logic, we should invite the Tyrant and the Scholar here too" Kyla says. "But we didn't"
"I was here before you guys decided to have your little get together" The Smith says.

"Can we please stop arguing?" Abigail asks. "We have better things to do than bicker"
"You have better things to do" Kyla says.
"Kyla, please don't. Save it for when lives aren't at stake" You say.

Boss sits down, and tells you that his cousin will be coming in sometime next week. Which is a good thing, since you could definitely use some more insight on this power.

"So, what's the plan for tonight?" You ask.
"You have to go back in?" Boss asks.
"For Safi" You say. "Until Harvey is dead, I'll be entering to ensure her safety"

Boss nods. "What is your plan for the Spy?" He asks.
"He dies too" You say. "Out of everyone, I have the best chance at him. Ambush tactics don't really work on someone who you have to kill twice. And Safi and I can watch each other's backs better than anyone"

"How?" Jessica asks.
"It's hard to explain... but when we were fighting that Minotaur, I felt like I was seeing through my eyes and hers. I knew what she was going to do, and she knew what I was going to do" You say.

"You share a soul" The Smith says. "Your connection can go much deeper than that, if you let it"
"And I can't do that until Harvey is dead as well" You say. "He severs it, so I need to sever him"

"But not until Sunday" Abigail says.
"Yes" You say.

For the next half an hour you go over tactical and strategic options for this week. One thing is incredibly clear: The Spy has to either stop entering the arena, or die. Even the Puppeteer isn't as dangerous right now.

Abigail is still set on being bait, and you still don't like the idea. And Boss looks tired as hell.

Either of them could be useful. Having Abigail as bait could still work if you're fast enough, and Boss could be in fighting shape if he got some rest...

The decision, it seems, is up to you...

She doesn't have to. We don't need her to confess to get the point across. If we tell her she's the creator, even if she doesn't respond, she knows we know. She knows Abby is tyrant, she knows we're guardian. We know she knows. She knows we know. The more informed Claire is the more likely she might just not try to murder us before we save Safi. Because right now, leaving Claire in the dark just means that a roided up crazy Creator will have no qualms killing Safi.
>>
"I'll go it alone tonight" You say.
"Bu-" Abby says.
"No buts" You say. "The Spy is going after our allies, and that means you. I know that you're confident, but it's easier if he only has me to go after"

"You can take him?" Boss asks.
"I can" You say. "He got me once before, but I was kind of reeling from having killed 2 people. He doesn't have that advantage this time. I'm ready for him. He pops up, I'm going to knock him 6ft down"

"I believe you" Boss says, putting a hand on your shoulder and giving it a squeeze. You'll admit that you are a little nervous, but having Boss's faith helps.

"Are you sure?" Abby asks
"Positive" You say. "Who knows? Maybe I can get the puppeteer too"
"Where do you think he is?" Boss asks.

"I dunno, but I had a few ideas" You say. "He has to be able to get the monsters with his strings, so I figure he hangs out on top of the labyrinth"
"You think you can get up there?" Abby asks.
"It's worth a shot" You say. "If I can't, then tomorrow night I can bring you with me, and you can use the cane to give me a gravity boost"

"Good plan" Jessica says. "So now that that's worked out, what do we do now?"

From what I understand, the Arena switches if the host dies before the week's out. Chances are, we can take out Spy tonight, and we could end up nailing Keeper OR Puppeteer; these guys might not make it to Sunday.
>>
>>42860445
Actually I thought it was that if the guy who runs the arena dies, all that changes is that nobody has to be in the arena for that week unless you haven't done your required once a week slot.
>>
>>42860445
Arena doesn't switch when the host dies.
Switch only happens at the end of the week.

Can we get some clarification, Smiley?
>>
>>42860505
Much obliged.
>>
Hey, didn't Smiley say that in the Sunday, the ones that didn't go to the arena for the week are pulled to the arena even if they don't want it? What if we just go normally to the arena for the week and then Sunday we raid the Hart's mansion and give Harvey a beating just before he is pulled to the arena, totally trashed. We go in and finish him inside.
>>
>>42860613
Because Harvey would instead kick our ass since his mansion would fuck us up. The arena is the only place where the odds between us are even and even then its stacked in harvey's favor. We almost died being a dumbshit with a fucking sword, stop thinking we're tough enough to raid a mansion.
>>
>>42860646
Well, we have Abby, Boss, Jessica, and maybe we can get Claire. Why don't see why we can't try.
>>
>>42860685
Are you trying to get everyone killed?
>>
>>42860685
If we get Coven support because of harvey's dickshittery and Jessica has a shitton of explosives. Then . . .maybe. I still say we just do the quick simple fuck him up in the arena where its just him and his last two slaves who we need to save and hopefully a crew of Abigail, Claire, Julia, Boss, and Us. (probs not those two tho)
>>
"Now, you and I have business elsewhere" You say.
"We do?" Jessica asks.

"Yes. Remember what I had to stop you from doing earlier?" You ask.
"You had to... oh yeah..." She says. "Are you serious?"
"Yes" You say. "Let's go"

"Where are you going?" Abby asks.
"Beaumont house" You reply.

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Abby asks
"I know them" Jessica says. "Even if they end up being enemies, they won't kill us now. Francis Beaumont is a lot of things, but a murderer is not one of them"

"If you're sure..." Abigail says. "Keep in touch with me, okay?"
"Alright" You say, as you make your exit. "Now, to the mom van!"

"Stop calling it that!" Jessica says as she chases after you.

WE HAVE TO TELL JESS ABOUT CLAIRE'S AFFINITY
>>
Jessica's van rolls to a stop outside the Beaumont house. The ride here was quiet and tense, despite the levity with which it began.

You remember coming here a week ago, when you walked Claire home from the cafe. It's weird to think that Stonehand is the same person as the sweet girl you walked home that day...

"You good?" Jessica asks.
"Yeah... I'm just having some trouble associating Claire with that... thing" You say.
"Tell me about it" Jessica says. "I've known her since she was just a little thing... it's hard to believe that she'd be capable of that kind of stuff"

"You ready?" You ask.
"Give me a second" She says. Jess takes a few deep breaths to calm her nerves. "Yeah, let's go"

You both leave the van, and walk through the open iron gates up to the front door. Then you knock...

The doors swing open, revealing a familiar face. Alison you think her name is... or is it Amelia... You swear you've heard Claire call her both of those things...

"Hello, Mr. Malikov, Ms. Browning. How can I help you today?" She asks.

You're surprised that she knows your name. Well, not that surprised. She probably knows all of Claire's friend's names.

"We're-" Jessica begins.
"Is Claire in?" You ask, cutting Jessica off.
"Yes, the lady is in" She says. "Would you like me to call her down?"

Alison...? Amelia... whatever her name is looks uncomfortable for a second. "Well... I don't think she'd mind-"

"Great! Thank you" You say, walking past her and into the house.

Alison moves to stop you, but it's too late.

"Where's her room?" You ask.
"Second floor. Third door on the left" She says, looking resigned.
"Thanks again" You say.

You and Jessica walk up the stairs to Claire's room, but Jessica stops outside.

"I'm... not going in" She says. "But I'll be right here if you need me"
"You sure?" You ask.
"Yeah. Besides, if this goes well then you won't need me" She says.

"Gotcha" You say, knocking on Claire's door.

"Come in" Claire says.
"Wish me luck" You whisper, and then you step in.

And find the room to be completely dark... Though you can definitely sense Claire in here. You look around the door for the light switch, and find it fairly quickly. You flip it on, and Claire is nowhere to be seen.

The room is spacious, with blackout curtains over single, large window. The only thing of note is the bed in the centre of the-

You give her shoulder a light shove. "Claire" You say.

She gasps as her eyes shoot open and lock onto you. "Saif... what are you doing 'ere?" She asks.

She blinks off her shock, and sits up. "So early?" She asks.
"It's like 6" You say.
"In ze morning?!?" She asks.

"Oh" She says, before stretching her arms out. She's in her pajamas, consisting of a tank top and a pair of pajama pants. The shirt does little to hide her frame...

"So I wanted to ask you abou-"
Claire stops you by darting over to your mouth and giving you a kiss. "Sorry, continue" She says.

You sigh. She isn't making this easy for you...

In character we voted to be blunt/Be subtle/take out mask etc not "TEAR HER FUCKING HEAD OFF!"

But what you're writing in is, "Hey Claire! I'm not mad!" Saif has plenty of reasons to be ticked off. So unless you're writing in a lie it's fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>42862261
I didn't make any assumption. I made a vote and a write-in. If you disagree, fo sho, don't vote for my write-in. I mean, should we have a vote right here right now to determine whether by majority Saif wants to be mad at Claire? Do it for Kyla too?

You take a breath. No meandering around the subject. You want answers, and sometimes that means you have to ask the questions directly.

"Claire, are you the Creator?" You ask.
"Am I... why do you ask zat?" She asks.
You manifest the mask.

Claire looks from it, to you, and back... "You are ze Guardian?" She asks.
"I am" You say.

She cocks her head and looks at you curiously for a second, but then her face lights up.

"So you're ze same person!" She says.
"What?" You ask. That was not the reaction you were expecting.

"I was conflicted because I sought zere was 2 men in my life... but zere is only one... and..." She jumps at you from the bed, knocking you to the floor. She then wraps her arms around your neck and kisses you.

She kisses you deeply, like... very deeply. As in 'hey there, how does my throat taste?' deeply.

Hearing the thuds, Jessica pops her head in, and immediately pops it right back out.

Normally you would welcome this kind of contact, but you did come here for a reason. That reason was to talk. Which is an action that is quickly becoming difficult.

Rational Saif wants to push her off so you can get to business, and then get out of here so you can do further business. Irrational Saif is tired of business, and welcomes the oral intrusions of Claire's tongue.

Your arms hang in the air, teetering on whether to push her off or pull her in. On one hand, Claire is making out when you want to talk, on the other hand... well... same story, really.

In the end, your hands must do something. So you-

You don't answer immediately. Had she asked you this on Saturday, the answer would have been a straight yes.

So much has come to light since then. The Blood Moon needs to go, but it's clear that you need a better solution for the God problem than leaving Kyla out in space.

"I won't give up" You say.
"Is it worth mine?" She asks.

Your heart drops. She's not going to give it up either.

"I don't want to hurt you, Claire" You say, stroking her cheek with one hand.
"I can take some pain" She says. "But I can't stop now... "

"Claire-"

She moves down and kisses you again, without trying to taste your throat this time.

"Meet me again tomorrow..." She says. "For now... you should go"

She kisses you again, and rolls off of you.

You turn to face her, and touch her cheek again. "Could you just do me a favour?" You ask.
"What?" She asks.
"I need you to stay out of the arena tonight..." You say.
"Why?"
"The Spy killed Yui" You say.
"You want revenge?" She asks.
"I do" You say.

She smiles sadly, and kisses you again. "I'll stay out of your way for tonight" she says. "Just... call me tomorrow"
"I will" You say. Then you stand up, and leave the room.

You say nothing to Jessica, only motioning for her to follow you out.

So here's the best plan I can come up with.

Tonight --- we kill Spy.

Tomorrow Night -- Only bring Abigail, and together kill puppeteer, try not kill keeper but do so if we must.

All the nights before Sunday -- hope to god the Muse and the Judge don't show up and try to fight us.

Sunday -- Bring Boss and Abigail and kill Harvey. At this point, we have Abigail, Dwight and Safi all surrender to us to keep them safe.

Monday and onwards -- We and Boss go in as a team and kill off Muse + Judge and eventually kill Creator and Butcher.
>>
>>42862924
Hopefully Claire doesn't go full crazy and makes us kill her. I'm probably grasping at straws though, she's crazy as hell apparently
>>
>>42862924
Sounds good.

No plan survives first contact though, so we need to be ready to adapt.
>>
>>42862924
Actually Safi might want to continue on with us. We get insane buffs when fighting with Safi becuase of the one soul two bodies thing.
>>
>>42862945
You're right. Also her object is pretty useless with us I feel. Maybe just let Dwight and Abigail surrender to Safi and us respectively. Then the two of us and Boss fuck up the competition
>>
As gung-ho as she's been, her logic is sound; why join at all, if you're not prepared to risk your life? She doesn't WANT to kill Saif, or his friends, but she's driven, like Saif, and can't give up.

What if the physics teacher was Spy? We might not want to kill the dude, cause we have a connection with him, but he killed Yui, so we're in gung-ho mode.

She'd rather people give up, to make things easier, like Saif, clearly. Both would kill Puppeteer/Keeper/Judge/Muse to keep going
>>
>>42863022
Saif is the only morally pure person in this entire game because we did not sign up to murder other people. Well arguably Boss and Yui entered to keep the earth safe
>>
>>42863047
Here's the thing: no one signs up for the express purpose of killing people; they sign up to win something that they're willing to kill for.

Boss and Yui were both ready to kill, and so is Saif.

Although, I have a feeling that Boss planned to do the actual killing.
