You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

It had been a couple of days since you managed to escort Babylon back to the Pillar. However, none of you had the chance to actually talk to him personally. The moment he touched down, he was whisked away by Jager and his team, no doubt to be privately "debriefed".

Though the fact that you and the rest of you squadron were gathered in the briefing room with Samantha seemed to indicate that the debriefing had borne fruit. However, the fact that Treister, Smokey, and Irons were present seemed to indicate whatever he said, it was REALLY important.

"Okay, well." Samantha sighs. "We've got a LOT to go over, so there where do you want to start first?"

"Well, let's start with the obvious question." You say. "What the fuck is OB planning?"

"Well, that's the problem." Samantha frowns. "Babylon told us everything, and it's not good. Not good at all."

Samantha takes out a small remote and activates the projector. Up on the screen, you see a very rough diagram of some type of weapon.

"What the heck is that?" Amy raises an eyebrow.

"That looks familiar..." Lara's face pales.

"It would to you." Samantha nods. "As far as we can tell, this weapon is the precursor to both SOLG and Chandelier."

"Some kind of railgun?" Lilian gasps.

"That's right." Samantha confirms. "This weapon, codenamed Vengeance, was being developed in secret during the Belkan War. Nobody knew about it because they were building it inside a freaking mountain. The perfect camouflage."

"What could they possibly do with such a thing?" You blink. "A gun that size, you can't possibly aim it."

"Yeah, that was one of the problems with Chandelier. It could really only effectively attack Gracemeria." Lara growls.

"Well, Vengeance's aim was a far more... ambitious." Samantha hits another key, and the diagram changes, zooming out to a view of the planet. "Vengeance was designed to launch projectiles all the way into orbit, on a ballistic trajectory, similar to how Osea launches satellites and Arkbird components into space. However, instead of satellites, Vengeance's aim was launching nuclear weapons."

"What?!" You all gasp at once.

"Well, it was only natural." Samantha says. "The original V1 weapons were just simple bombs, and the only way to deliver them was via slow and vulnerable bombers with limited range. So, what if you had a system that could launch these bombs in space and have them land anywhere on the planet?"

Got a weird idea for a oneshot/limited run: Clover Film Productions

Essentially, Clover studios went into the movie industry for a bit.....it didn't turn out as well as they imagined.

The movies they released were 'so bad it's good' B-listers. Most of the problems came from the fact that a good majority of the films were made in the Danger Room (CGI complaints), way too many cliches used in each film as well as being rather terribly written, and a relatively low budget. This dark stain on Clover Entertainment was so bad that everyone pretends it never happened in the first place, but they'll watch it together every now and again to laugh at themselves.

Essentially, the one-shots are the movies they made, and it'll give us the opportunity to see our favourites with completely different personalities.

Some movie ideas:

>Blazing Badges 2: Partners in Crime

Rochelle is a cop that doesn't play by anyone's rules. After a car chase that ends up destroying half of District 1, she's partnered up with a top graduate from Police Academy that plays by-the-book, Julie. Together, they'll have to work together to bring down a crime boss that owns the biggest industry in Delta City.
BB2 is essentially a cop film that has everything that makes a Buddy Cop movie.

>Direct Control

Meet the Producer, a man in charge of an Idol group, and who has everything one can hope for: Cars, Money, a pet dog, and a perfect lover. But what he doesn't have is an understanding of his Idols. So what happens when one day, he wakes up as them?! Now in each other's bodies, they'll learn that sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side.
DC is one of those bodyswap comedies.

"That's crazy!" You blink. "And, completely predictable. Fuck, what is with us and giant superweapons?"

"Yeah, well, don't ask me." Samantha grumbles. "Anyways, according to Babylon, Vengeance was massively upgraded in the past couple of years by Grunder Industries, with components originally manufactured for the SOLG. It's now capable of firing MIRV type warheads at hypersonic speeds into orbit."

"Can't they be intercepted?" Lilian asks.

"Well, if Arkbird were still around, sure." Samantha shakes her head. "But currently there isn't anything that we can use. to intercept anything Vengeance fires, and OB knows it."

"Well, it's not like they have anything to shoot out of it, right?" Lara laughs nervously. "Right...?"

"About that..." Samantha frowns. "Babylon also told us that Vengeance is powered by a nuclear reactor. One capable of refining fissile material that can be used in a nuclear weapon."

"How many?" You ask simply.

"With how long we've estimated its been in operation and assuming OB recovered hidden stockpiles, enough to hit every major city on the planet." Samantha answers.

The whole room is dead silent, until the spell is broken by a single word.

"Fuck." Amy says with disbelief.

"Fuck, indeed." Samantha says. "What's worse is, with Babylon's defection, OB knows they're on the clock. They just aired this thirty minutes ago."

Samantha hits the remote and a video starts up, showing a trio of masked men standing in front of what appeared to be a nuclear warhead. All around, the room was stark white, betraying no indication of where they might be.

"Attention people of the world." The lead figure speaks, his voice electronically warped. "We have tried conventional methods of bringing attention to our plight, but to to the resistance of your government, we are forced to come to our last resort. Behind me, you see a nuclear weapon. Only the first of many. Our demand is simple. The current Belkan government will be removed and replaced with one of our choosing, and those lands stolen from us in the aftermath of the Belkan War will immediately be returned. If these demands are not met in the next twenty four hours, we will launch one missile, each containing twelve nuclear warheads, and we will fire another missile every hour after that. As a measure of good faith, we shall show you a demonstration of our capability and our resolve. Watch the skies."

"Fifteen minutes after that, a single nuclear warhead was launched into space and exploded in orbit, wiping out a number of Osean and Yuktobanian satellites." Samantha explains further."

"But we know where they are, right?" Amy blurts. "Everybody can just band together and take them out!"

"That's the problem." Samantha frowns. "Corporate wants to keep this close to the vest. Make it a join Artemis/Atlas mission only."

"Why?!" Lara shoots up from her seat.

"Better exposure. Artemis and Atlas would become saviors overnight." Samantha says. "Look, I don't like this any more than you, but this is coming straight from the top."

Last week in VTQ, people were comparing Merc's quests to the Nasuverse. I think CIMQ was equated with F/SN due to its popularity, but my memory's a bit hazy on the details.

Point is, what would the Merc version of Carnival Phantasm be like? I'm imagining VMQ!Karla and ACQ!
Karla having a contest of some sort. Probably to woo Jager.

Oh, and Neco-Arc Cole.

These are nukes. You do not play around with nukes. When word gets out that Corporate wanted to sit on this, they will be at the top of every world government's hate-list.

Not saying that we're coming out unscathed, but this something that the right parties need to know. There's already been an announcement on TV, so the whole world knows that somebody's implementing their SIOP.

Actually, on that note...

Rather than trying to get Corporate into trouble with people mad over this -- maybe we could spread the news and then tell Corporate "Well the cat's out of the bag now; so you can't be the SOLE heroes. But you can still be the heroes who told everybody about the superweapon threat as soon as it appeared."

In other words, maybe we can make it harder for Corporate to decide to blacklist us?

Basically: spill the beans and then tell Corporate to play along.

Because frankly speaking, what kind of message would it send to the world if Corporate BLACK-LISTED their own best pilots that SAVED THE WORLD?

Seriously, it doesn't make sense for them to do that does it?

People would ASK why they'd be firing and blacklisting the heroes.

So instead we just spread the news and then ask Corporate to play along.

Yeah they'll be pissed but still; this way they get to have heroes INSTEAD OF BEING KNOWN FOR FIRING AND BLACKLISTING THE HEROES.
>>
Honestly, I kinda feel like even IF we didn't get blacklisted from every PMC after this or whatever, Karla would say 'fuck this job' out of sheer knightly principle. She likes money, but as far as I can tell the girl has standards and lines not to be crossed.

"We're wingmates forever!" Lara says proudly. "And wingmates stick together, even the worst furball!"

"You know I never needed the money anyways." Lilian winks.

"Makes me damn proud to have known excellent pilots like you." Treister wipes a tear from his good eye.

"I didn't hear any of this." Irons says with a smile. "But once word goes out, you can count on the assistance of my pilots."

"I've always worked my ass off to keep you girls from getting yoruselves killed." Smokey grunts. "I don't see any reason to change that now."

"Besides, Samantha, your talents are criminally wasted being an underling." You continue. "I think you got the right stuff to run your own PMC."

"Yeah... my own PMC..." Samantha says in though. "I'll build a better one, with blackjack and hookers!"

There was a brief moment of silence.

"That was the joke." Samantha sighs.

"I bad one." You snort.

"Everybody's a critic." Samantha sighs. "Okay, so once we're ready, I'll get Gullinbursti airborne and we'll use that as our HQ to send the word out. But that's later. We still have other things to go through."

"Okay, so give us the lowdown on the base itself." You say. "What kind of defenses can we expect? How can we crack it open?"

"Defenses? Only the best kind Mother Nature can provide in the form of several hundred meters of solid rock." Samantha grumbles and the image changes to a diagram of a sprawling underground facility. "Not to mention ,the entire mountain is dotted with bunkers. weapon emplacements, and AA defenses, all connected to a central underground complex. There are only three possible entrances. The first and most obvious is the ground floor entrance, but it's heavily defended and sealed with giant, armored doors that will be a bitch to crack. The second possible entrance is a hangar built directly into the side of the mountain that acts as their airbase. It's not sealed, but it's only accessible by air and is also HEAVILY defended. The third entrance... well... you're not going to like it."

"Just tell us already." You sigh.

"Fuck yeah." You grin.

"W-what?!" Amy pales. "What the fuck crazy kind of plan is that?!"

"Cool! Just like Talisman!" Lara's eyes shine.

"It's not a one way trip, is it?" Lilian asks cautiously.

"Now, now, we've gone over the plans, and a successful attack run through the barrel is completely plausible." Samantha tries to calm you all. "You see, the infrastructure needed to keep this gun running, from the barrel the loading trench, has to be massive. Large enough that a fighter can fit through. We've plotted the tunnels, and we found one critical weakness. One that can only be exploited by going through the barrel."

"What weakness?" You ask.

"Vengeance and the nuclear reactor that powers it use the same cooling system." Samantha grins. "We managed to plot a course through the facility's utility tunnels that allows you to take out the cooling system. Without it, the reactor melts down, and boom, no more base."

"What's the exit strategy?" Amy asks. "We just pull a fucking u-turn and fly back out the tunnel?"

"There's a vent that the base uses to expel excess heat." Samantha further explains. "That's the exit."

"Goddamn." You frown. "Is this the only way?"

"With the kind of time constraints we have, yes. It'll take too much time to fight through the front." Samantha sighs. "But they have to open the barrel to fire, so that's our chance to get in. They're definitely not expecting an attack from the inside."

"Okay, so is there anything else we need to know?" You ask.

"Yes, well, there's Tombstone." Samantha bites her lip. "He's still alive."

"Well shit." You blink. You kind of suspected that but...

"Apparently, OB recovered his body, and used some experimental technology to revive him. According to Babylon, they literally fused his body with an aircraft. It's both his plane and his life support system now. Basically, he and the aircraft are one. Completely integrated."

"Ewwwwww." Amy grimaces.

"That sounds so cool." Lara's mouth drops open.

"So how do we beat that?" You narrow your eyes.

"Well, Babylon brought over some new technology that might even the playing field, but it's very experimental..."

"Tell me more." You say.

"Well, Babylon brought back this." Samantha switches the display again to show what looked to be some form of advanced flightsuit. "It's a brand new control system. The suit reads nerve impulses from under your skin, and then directly translates them into control signals for the plane. You're literally moving at the speed of thought."

"No way." You frown.

You split off from your squadmates and head for the base's brig, where Babylon would presumably be held. The guards there give you a cursory glance, but otherwise don't stop you. You've become something of a celebrity on the base, after all.

Sure enough, you're led to the cell Babylon is being held in. It was a low security cell, though you guess that was to be expected since he was a defector. He still looked as handsome as ever, with his very young, cocky appearance and blond hair. The spitting image of any quintessential fighter pilot.

"Yo, Valkyrie." Babylon smiles wryly. "What brings you here on this fine hour? I figured you'd be busy, you know, blowing up OB or something."

"Well, I was just really curious about one thing." You say, sitting down across the table from him. "What made you defect from OB?"

"Ah, well..." Babylon shrugs. "First things first, I was a merc, not really a true believer. They didn't really like dealing with guys like us, but I was one of their best, so they really didn't have a choice but keep me around."

"But obviously that changed."

"Yep." Babylon sighs. "I mean, the first warning sign was when Lancer went down. Tombstone didn't even catch flak for killing him, which proved that my bosses didn't particularly cared about what happened to me. Second was when I got a look for myself what they did to Tombstone to keep him alive. Truth be told, they really should've just let the poor bastard die."

"Can't always get what we want." You point out.

"Truth." Babylon agrees. "The final nail in the coffin is when I found out what they were planning with Vengeance. All the money in the world isn't going to help me if the whole world gets nuked, right? Figured I'd take my chances and run."

"Typical merc." You grin. "I also noticed you getting cute with Amy when you landed..."

"Pffft." Babylon rolls his eyes. "That ground pounding loser.? Doesn't even fly a real plane! No class at all!"

"Uh huh." You grin. "You know, if you're so worried about her, we could probably arrange to have you cover her in the next furball."

"Bah, as if." Babylon huffs a little too loudly. "I doubt they'd even let me out of this cell."

"Have you forgotten who you're talking to?" You puff up with pride. "Whatever I say on this base pretty much goes. If I think you got what it takes to fly with us, well, nobody's going to stop me."

"Is that so?" Babylon leans back in his chair. "So what makes you think it'll be worth my while?"

"You'll stop the world, and by extension, yourself, from getting nuked." You respond simply.

"That IS a good point." Babylon mutters.

"So are you in or out?" You ask again.

"Might as well die in the air than in a cell." Babylon sighs. "I'm in."

"That's great. I'll tell them to let you out."

"Great." Babylon nods. "Also, I need to warn you about something. Tombstone, he hasn't forgotten what you did to him. In fact, OB made sure it's the only thing he remembers. The pain of being shot down by you. When they send him out, he WILL be coming after you.

"I'll be ready for him." You chuckle. "Don't you know? It's a Valkyrie's job to guide the dead to their final rest."

"I suppose so." Babylon chuckles. "I look forward to flying on your side for once."

With that piece of business done, you exit the brig and head over to the hangar, where you could already see Smokey and his team setting up the new control system in your Morgan, completely ripping out all of the existing cockpit controls and avionics.

"Karla! There you are!" Samantha grunts as she tosses you the flightsuit. "Hurry up and put that on. We need to calibrate it to your size."

"So, how does it work? Do I just put it on..."

"Strip." Samantha says.

"W-what?" You blink.

"You heard me." Samantha shakes her head. "The suit needs direct skin contact, so you can't wear anything under it."

"Even underwear?" You gulp.

"What part of EVERYTHING did you not understand."

"W-well, if I must..." You try to keep your cool. "Can I at least have some privacy?"

"We set up a changing area for you." Samantha points to a corner of the hangar where a few tarps have been hung up to make a sort of impromptu changing room.

"Wonderful." You grumble as you make your way over.

You felt distinctly uncomfortable have to strip completely naked just to put on a flightsuit, but you guess that sacrifices had to be made for progress. However, you did feel that it was a little too baggy.

"Um, are you sure it's supposed to be like this?" You ask Samantha as you carefully step out.

"Oh right, you're supposed to press this button when you're done." Samantha says as she presses a button the sleeve.

Suddenly, the entire flightsuit contacts, adhering to your skin and forming up on every curve and crease of your body.

And by every curve, you MEANT it.

"So, how does it feel?" Samantha asks.

"It feels like I'm wearing nothing at all." You say glumly.

"Yeah... I heard it would be like that." Samantha laughs nervously.

"YOU KNEW?!" You narrow your eyes.

"J-just from what Babylon told me!" Samantha backs away slightly.

"What's going on here?" Jager asks as he walks him.

OH NO, NOT NOW-

Both you and Jager just stare awkwardly at each other for what seems like the longest time, as if both of you were wondering who would break their shell of stoicism first.

"I apparently caught you at a bad time." Jager says simply before spinning on his heel and quickly marching out.

"Oh my god..." You bury your face in your hands. "There's no way it can get any worse..."

"All right, it's time for the nerve receiver calibration." Samantha continues. "We'll be running an electric current through the suit, so things might get a little, eh, 'tingly.'"

"Tingly?" You groan.

so I wonder, since we're going to send out a "Gondor Calls for Aid" sort of message, I wonder who is going to show up?
