Thread LVII:
Apologies for the delay there. Had some familial obligations come up. Lets have a good one?

Story Thus Far: http://pastebin.com/28u7mE0q

You wake a couple hours after your run in with the trolls. Crawling out from under the bedroll you were too tired to even climb into, you spy marie standing watch. Both Artyom and Veles are resting.

"All quiet for now." The harpy says in a low whisper. "Good thing too, I don't fancy another run in with those things." She adds with a worried chuckle.

It takes a bit of time to rouse the other two, but after some time you manage to get your group going again. You depart from the area, leaving the ashes of the dead trolls well behind. Veles is still nursing his injured hand, having fasioned a makeshift sling for it while leaving. Artyom's armor still looks horribly scuffed from the battle as well. Its near midday when Veles calls for a stop.

"What's wrong?" You ask, falling back toward him.

"If the trolls are as unchecked as the kozaks claim." The old snake begins, "Then we had might want to take to the highlands to head back. It would take longer, but game is scarce and the ravenous fallen are unlikely to be there."

>Make all due speed through the badlands.

We are shy on supplies if memory serves. We better get a move on.

There's wisdom in what he says, though can we aford the delay?
>>
>>43056284
>>Make all due speed through the badlands.

"We're a lot shorter on supplies than I'd like Veles. I think we had ought to make for home the quickest way possible. We'll deal with trouble as it comes."

Veles nods, "I suppose you are right. It is a shame we did not manage to keep the trolls off of that boar your hussar took."

You nod, adding to the lament, even acting sparingly you've been burning through your supplies. You'll have to figure out something next time you come here. These 'short' jaunts are getting taxing, and your range is laughable as it is. In any case, you opt to take the direct route, and head through the badlands.

The badlands prove to be relatively quiet, and with the four of you (and Dahz) making double time through it you end up making camp within a days march from the valley, and home. You swear you can almost just see the opening of it from where you end up making camp.

Veles is trying, unsuccessfully, to ward off the attentions of Marie, who is bound and determined to see to his wounded hand. Artyom, now having a free moment, is furiously attempting to unscuff and fix up his armor with what little materials he has available to do so. The group manages to scrounge up the last of the rations for a small meal, but even still, you're on your last legs. So to speak.

You end up pulling mid watch, opting to break it into threes and let Veles sleep. He hasn't been showing it too much, you worry about his injured hand. He said the claws grow back, but it nonetheless looks painful.

You end up relieving Artyom, who had pulled first watch, and wake up to the sight of the centaur cleaning a dead troll of his blade. Catching your worried expression, the centaur merely says the Casimiran word for loner, before tossing the corpse onto the fire. Ignoring the acrid smoke blowing away from the camp, you're on edge as you grip your rifle close to you.

Nothing happenes even when Marie comes to relieve you, and in all honesty, you wish something had. You're unable to catch much in the way of sleep, worrying if mayhaps you should have taken the highlands. Day breaks without incident, and you make for the valley. Its familiarity brings with it relief, as you head through the tunnel, Veles bidding you goodbye as he closes the tunnel behind you. You make your way along the ridgeline, following the makeshift road that the workmen have cut into the hills between here and the bridge, before you make it back to the ranch.

Despite having been gone for quite some time, the only real difference in the ranch appears to be the lack of scaffolding on the newly completed bridge, the workmen now focusing on the improving roadway on this side of the river.

You turn to the pair behind you. "Both of you head inside, see if you can't get Tai to whip us up something. Get some food together, maybe a bit for me to take over to Veles as well later."

You slither off to the side as the two damn near run you down to head toward the house. In the meantime you stalk about the ranch, hoping to find McCain. In passing you gree Liama and her crew who are all out on guard near the houses. It takes some doing, but you actually end up finding your foreman out behind the barn, near the oversized coop you've been keeping the chickens in. You tense, seeing him armed with a pistol, leaning idly against the barn. He's idly toying with the hilt of that sword he lifted off of the faux McCain. "Something the matter?" You ask hesitantly, watching him lean over to look inside the hut.

He turns to you. "Oh, hello Miss Sasha. Welcome back. We've got a bit of a problem."

"What?"

"Couple of days back we had some people try and make off with our cattle."

You stop. "How many did they take?"

"None, but we took them." He says tilting is head toward the coop.

You hazard a look inside, only to see the face of that UFK Reserve Lieutenant and his cronies glaring back at you, bound by irons to a foundation beam.

>What do?
>>
>>43058817
Welp, we take them to the Nitor. This isn't the wild west we can't take the law into our own hands.

However maybe some lamia style intimidation is in order. Maybe we should interrogate them.
>>
>>43058864
This, but begin by saying, "Wouldn't it be easier to just off the varments and bury them in the back pasture? Nobody is going to miss some godsdamned cattle rustlers"
>>
>>43058969
Little bit more educated, we're the smart one not the cowboy. Let McCain do the drawl'n
>>
>>43059073
I know. If we can successfully affects least sophisticated sounding speech pattern, that might be more effective on this lot. Make them bargain their way out of an execution we don't intend to perform.
>>
>>43058817
I like this one:
>>43058864
As for interrogation, we have the Claws, we have poison, we have our spines, we have a rifle, we have our tail, and we have FIRE.

"Well, why aren't they buried out in the back then?" You ask, looking back at McCain and winking.

He nods, "Figgured I'd leave that decision up to you Miss." he says, extenuating the drawls.

You glance back into the pen, no real reaction from the three.

"Well, we had probably figure out what to do with them before too long."

"That we had ought to." McCain agrees grimly, as you close the latch on the coop. Noting that the chickens have wasted no time in imposing themselves on their new roommates.

You round the corner with McCain. "What's the plan?" He asks, voice low.

"Not sure yet, could interrogate them. Could just turn them over to the nitor. How'd you catch them?"

"Liama." McCain says simple, continuing as you gave him a look. "Not sure what she did, all I know is I heard a struggle a few nights back, came out guns ready to her dragging these three back in her coils. They say official rationing business for the Reserves, but nobody has come looking for them, nor have they produced any evidence."

"Does the nitor know?"

"I had one of Liama's boys send a runner, but we've been unable to get any nitor boys that didn't have reserves listenin in. Didn't want to risk a standoff."

>Let them stew for a while, speaking of, lets get some food.
>Decide on what do with them now. (Turn them over to the nitor or interrogate)
>>
>>43060135
>>Let them stew for a while, speaking of, lets get some food.
Maybe a bath
>>
>>43060135
>decide later
We need more opinions.
I'm all for roasting them alive, and no-one but NO-ONE steals from us (or tries to) and lives.
However, I'm unsure as to how wise this would be, and how it would effect the morale of our men.
(Simply shooting them or slitting their throats is also fine by me.)
>>
>>43060246
Not in character, as much as I agree with you, we give them to the authorities. If they can't or won't do anything we kill them.
>>
>>43060307
How is it NOT in character?
I'm acting as the dragon part of our brain. That's still a thing. Lamia all still have those tendencies.
>>
>>43060353
When have we murdered someone for no reason? Calm down, we're not an animal.
>>
>>43060135
>Let them stew for a while, speaking of, lets get some food.
>>
>>43060408
But we CAN kill them for:
1: trespassing
2. trying to steal our shit
Those are two perfectly good reasons.
>>
>>43060444
Like I said I agree, but let's eat bathe and sleep on it. We should still try the authorities first.
>>
>>43060504
And as /I/ said, I wanted more opinions before we actually kill them.
Also, authorities are corrupt. I'm pretty sure these guys are with the Phoenix, and will be out before we can leave the station if we did hand them over.
I'm going with what I think is the better long term decision.
>>
>>43060576
There's no evidence for the Nitor being corrupt, these are UFK reserves
>>
>>43060644
Who have no proof that they actually are from the reserves.
Man, you aren't thinking Shadowrun enough.
>>
>>43060698
Oh yeee, these guys are prolly phoenix, I thought you meant the Nitor
>>
>>43060720
Why would I be talking about the Nitor? Ssen made them. Her Voice of JUSTICE reaches across time and space to keep her men in line.

"We'll let them stew on what we said, and I've half a mind to simply put a bullet in them." You say finally, "We ran low on supplies and I'm starving."

McCain nods, pulling over one of the work crew's 'muscle' to relieve him. "Understood. As much as I want to as well, prolly best if'n we don't. Rather not have the Nitor and reserves go head to head. 'Specially with the pheonix about."

He heads off to take care of some 'chores' while you head into the house. Inside you find Marie and Artyom animatedly stuffing their faces as Tai seems to be going to town in the kitchen. You're reminded that Liama was going to question him about the pheonix stuff he knew, but you're not sure if you want to bring it up.

You set upon the food yourself, thankful to finally have real bread and meat and even damn vegetables compared to the rations you had packed. You're well and truly stuffed before you opt to drag yourself up to the second floor, and drawing a proper bath that you lethargically drop yourself into.

Its early evening by the time you're finished unwinding. Looking out your window, you see your help going about their various chores.

You opt to pull McCain and Liama into a private conversation, interrupting some sort of discussion between Liama and the workmen. Dragging her along, you catch McCain just as he is finishing feeding Traveller and Greenbriar.

"What's up Miss Masterson?" Liama asks, as the three of you convene in the barn.

"Just trying to figure out what to do about our 'guests' back there." You say, gesturing to the wall bordering the chicken coup turned prison the rustlers are in.

"Oh them, prolly just hand them off to then Nitor, let them deal with them." She says brightly.

"Only one problem, what with the reserves being about, doubt they'd take kindly to us giving them a black eye of sorts." You say, echoing McCain's worries from earlier.

"Oh I doubt they'd notice. Even if those guys were reserves they aren't the best disciplined lot. Long as we keep it discrete I doubt their higher ups would care."

"What do you mean even if they are reserves?"

"Well its been like 4 days. That's well past check in time. I'd imagine the reserves would be looking for them by now at least."

McCain concedes the point, "If anything they're prolly the less reputable part of the reserves, trying to make money by one snake oil sale or another." He says, before hastily adding 'no offense.'

"Oh, speaking of dealing with things, did you talk to Tai, Liama?" you say, shaking your head.

"I did learned some interesting things. Nothing really important to why the pheonix are attacking now though. Maybe. I dunno. Gut says no."

"Anything of note?"

"Nothing he'd probably tell you himself I imagine."

"How about the pheonix. Any sight of them?"

"We found one of the runners a few days back. Didn't make it back with the rest before she bled out. Nothing new on the body, carted it off to town to let the reserve and nitor deal with it."

You sigh. You're really getting tired of being in the dark about all this. But, you think to yourself, at the very least you're home for now.

Calling it here, for now. Connection issues aside there's no sense making folks stay up late on a weekday. Really want to try for Saturday runs but other things keep getting in the way. In any case, thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed it so far.
