Welcome back to Overlord Light Novel quest. You would usually be contemplating the last few days, but right now you’re a little busy dealing with an ambush! Eleven kobolds remain, while Resik is nursing a shallow wound from a kobold blade.

Resuming combat in the next post. I’ve conducted the rolls for this round of combat so as to move things along.

>Summon Angel I
>Holy Bolt I

You draw yourself up, keeping yourself aloft unsteadily in the dead air of the tunnel. You get yourself up far enough to avoid the kobold’s melee attacks, but it seems your flight isn’t as steady as it was in YGGDRASSIL. Regardless, you feel it won’t hinder your spellcasting.

Drawing a pair of spells forth, you quickly summon another cherub, which joins its double. Speaking of, the double looses off a small arrow into the loose ring of kobolds. It hits, but the shot is imperfect and simply elicits a small yelp from the kobold. You finish off your second spell and loose a bolt into the same ring. This, however, does draw a casualty as your holy fire sears through one of the runts, his leathery hide charred as he falls to the ground.

Soren lashes out, his shield intercepting no less than three javelins aimed at the already injured dwarf. As a kobold lashes out at the dwarf from behind, cowed by the menacing demonspawn before him, he is met with a swift end as a Soren’s blade buries itself in his torso.

Resik simply attempt to stick close to Soren, pickaxe in one hand while his offhand clutches his wound.

What will you do? You have two actions and a reaction.

I reckon we should hover over the kobalds to burn the fuckers. That or do a flyby.
>>
>>43056636
Seconding. Use one of our actions on this, then use Divine Shield on whoever was left without it(if everyone already had it, then just keep using Holy Bolt)

>Cast Spellx2
Summon Angel
Holy Bolt on a kobold nearest Resik.

We'll heal him after the fight.
>>
>>43056684
I don't think we CAN heal yet. Maybe we have potions, though I'd rather not use them so randomly, but that's metagaming.

Taking too long, rolling the final one myself.
>>
You know what would be absolutely beautiful? If the set of 5, 5, 6 from >>43056771 and >>43056784 would be Soren and us respectively.
>>
>>43056928
Hah. Unfortunately... that was a cherub.
>>
>>43056947
Could that cherub possibly ascend with us? Now that we're not in YGG, the rules need to apply. I just want a horny little side-kick. A baby-esque creature would do just fine.
>>
>>43056990
I don't think the angels summoned really have free will. They usually just come and obey orders.
>>
>>43057068
That and they disappear.

Matching 17 versus Kobold DC…

CRITICAL!!!
You beat your wings once, quickly whirling about to fly within range of your immolation aura. Whirling about the kobolds expertly, they draw close together as you wheel about them. Luckily the room is just large enough for you to wheel about and confuse them while not crashing and burning.

The kobolds begin to panic and scream as their clothes and skin catch ablaze seemingly spontaneously. They immediately rout, their scarred forms attempting to get away from your divine wrath. Unfortunately for them, you’re faster. One almost manages to make it into his hole, but a small arrow catching it in the back of the neck, causing it to fall forward and against the wall, lifeless.

>Reveal!
>When a 17+ is rolled, a critical threat is presented. If it is a 17, it is checked versus a hidden DC to determine its success. On an 18, it is an automatic critical. The crit is not simply double damage, as something that has 1.5% chance to occur should be something a bit more interesting, though not an “I-Win” button. Things may include striking a critical blow, escaping from an almost impossible situation, or burning a mob of kobolds alive with your divine flame.

COMBAT ENDS! Bezziak’s party has prevailed.
Experience: 12 level 2 kobolds.
Bezziak Experience: 20/256: 3.125%
Soren Experience: 20/16: 120% LEVEL UP: 4/32

Unless you manage to roll both X, 3/4, 3/4. No. For NPCs, Minions, and Enemies I do have a fumble system.

After the fight you finally manage to make your way to various possible mining areas near your base of operations. After a few hours of prospecting Resik seems to be quite enthused with this area! Though some of the ores escape your understanding, you do know that he has found traces of some precious metals as well as a few possible veins of iron. Seems you landed in a nice spot for mining. With the recent kobold attacks he requests one of your Templars to accompany him when he ventures out to mine. With your current agreement this would effectively take up one of your Templars at all times as well as costing you 20 gp per week, though you will receive 100% of what he mines.

Considering you have a handful of them and your personal defense will likely be taken up by your Servants, you see nothing wrong with this, and can always renegotiate later. Satisfied that your new employee is able to work to the best of his capability, you return to the Guild Hall.

Karis is there to greet you on your return, and seems quite nonchalant over the larger assault done by the Kobolds. ‘My Master would never let some puny creatures best him, nor his glorious Knight Soren!’ You’re unsure if this is in jest, though Soren’s blush seems to indicate he took it quite literally.

Soren does voice a pragmatic concern however. “Sir, these kobold attacks are becoming quite annoying. If you will, I’d like us to plan a way to deal with them permanently, as you see fit.”

Karis is of a different mind however, “Master, I don’t think these pests should be of any concern to you. Once we have a firm grip on these mountains they will be but another bug beneath your heel.”

Send Karis to find the source of the kobolds and their defenses and numbers.

We must make sure that no detail is overlooked in our defenses or plans.

Going to write these off as they get support. We in base management mode boyos. IC time will pass as actions are taken, but I'll just write one out when I feel its necessary.

You think that Soren is rather right in his concern for the Kobold threat, though they have seemed rather feeble thus far. You decide that as the most agile of your forces, Karis will be the best to scout out for their main area of habitation and any defenses incumbent there.

After a handful of hours, of which Soren and you spent familiarizing yourselves with the differences between this world and YGGDRASSIL, Karis returns. She gives her report, which is not very positive.

In short, you have an infestation on your hands.

There are three main hubs of transit for kobolds in the region it seems. Discounting any habitations that may have been dig into the tunnels (and beyond Karist's eyes), each 'village' has a population of 70 kobolds apiece, though this seems to be very fluid. You may presume that the true population of each village is roughly 50% of that number. Each village also seems to follow a different philosophy.

Village 'Arr-Took' seems to be the closest to you and the most well defended. There are multiple traps layered in its surrounding tunnels and many alcoves dug into the tunnel walls that could house two kobolds apiece. Karis was unable to probe beyond the outer defenses due to their heavy nature.

Village 'Bak-chast' has little to no traps, but they seem to have a much more mystic nature to them. Karis noted a cadre of some kind of magic user during her scouting venture, and had seem them lashing a kobold with some firey whip.

Finally, Village 'Erk-ba' seemed to be entirely empty before Karis took the chance to look into the many small tunnels that honeycomb its "surface" when she was ambushed! She managed to get away safely, but could not find out anything other than the village's honeycomb nature.

>Get Resik to make us a map to dwarven lands /surface
>Then start securing the routes with Soren and Resik, using Karis as a scout.
>>
>>43058445
Maybe we should see if these villages get along and see if we cant convince one to join up with us?
>>
>>43058445
So, are we going to offer them a chance to live, or are we a vengeful angel?
>>
>>43058499
Gotta get that sweet exp. Maybe see if we can keep one of the villages? If it doesnt work out its not a big deal
>>
>>43058445
>Explore(specify where and who with)
Surface. Bring Resnik, since he should be able to point out what is nearby.

With the infestation, the other two might just need to be extra strength for our base.
>>
>>43058445
>Send Soren and Karis out to capture a kobold from each village, alive and preferably unharmed
I think we should try to learn their language, find out their culture, and determine which one we can dominate and which one we'll use to grind our levels.
>>
>>43058615
Everyone speaks the same language.
>>
Have ideas all over the dartboard here, boys.
>>
>>43058615
>>43058656
This one seems like the safest right now.
>>
>>43058641
But the character doesn't know that, especially when it's a Monster race we're talking about.
And we still need to interrogate for information, though we need to consider what methods we use and whether to dispose of them afterwards.
>>
Yeah, I'm just going to call this one guys. We'll try again this weekend. We finished off what we started last time at least, though this thread was incredibly dull. Have a good one boys.
>>
>>43058768
Alright. But maybe we can discuss how we should deal with the kobolds.

We're strong enough to handle a group, but they could drown us under numbers if they all attack.
And they would be useful laborers and minions, so maybe we shouldn't be too aggressive against them.
>>
>>43058982
I still reckon trying to incite some infighting between villages would be a good idea assuming there isnt any already.
>>
>>43059058
Right, but should we get that knowledge through passive observation, or through direct kidnapping and interrogations?
The former is safe, but takes time. The latter is faster, but could create complications if we don't properly handle the prisoners.
>>
>>43059160
I'd say the slower way. Kobold levels do vary somewhat. Better to learn whom are the strongest are and prepare for them without inciting them to come together against us.

On another note, I await the day we make it above ground and wonder how things will go from there.
