And here you thought that the ride to Claire's house was tense. If you had a knife, you could cut the air in here.

Well you do technically have a knife. But to get it you would have to summon the Archive and then get the knife out and then explain to Jessica why you're pulling out a knife and then argue with her about whether or not your reason makes sense...

"You should have let me yell at her parents" Jessica says.
"Now's not the time" You say. "Claire agreed to stay away for the night, and I'll talk to her tomorrow. Yelling at her parents could only throw a wrench in that"

Jessica grumbles something.
"Besides, didn't you already yell at them over the phone?" You ask.
"I did, but there's a satisfaction to yelling at someone to their face that you don't get over the phone. Y'know?"

"Yeah, I guess I get that" You say, as you turn your head to the window. Strange. You don't recognize this place... "Jess... where are we going?"
"Where... oh" She says. "I'm not actually sure, I've just been driving on autopilot since we left"

"Is that safe?" You ask.
She shrugs. "We'd both survive a crash" She says.
"But what about your mom van?" You ask.
"This piece of junk? I was thinking of upgrading anyways" She says. "Maybe something that doesn't scream 'I'm a mother' quite so loud"
"Self conscious?" You ask.
"Well, if someone would stop calling it a mom van..." She says.
"Alright, I'll stop" You say. "So where are we going?"
"I dunno. I was hoping you could tell me" She says.

You raise your eyebrow at her, and she shrugs again.

"Alright... let's go-"

It's probably best to head back to the apartment, after this. If we want to learn mana flushing/healing from Jess, then I doubt that we'd need the warehouse to do it.

"-back to the cafe" You say. "I still need to talk to Kyla about a few things"

"Trouble in paradise?" She asks.
"More or less" You say. "Let's just say I've learned a few things from my encounters with other divine beings"

"I know you've met the Smith... who's the other?" She asks.
"You don't remember the Traitor?" You ask.
"Right! Right... Sorry. That whole thing is still a little fuzzy" She says.

You scowl. It took Tasha almost no effort to teleport Jess up to the 7th floor and leave her completely oblivious to what happened. You get the feeling that Kyla's influence is the only thing that kept her out of your head as well.

Kyla is right about one thing: the Gods need to mind their own damn business. But you don't think that locking them away is the best option. Perhaps if they could instead be reined in...

"You okay?" Jess asks.
"Yeah... well... no" You say. "I think I'm as good as I'll ever be"
"Good enough for me" She says. Jessica then floors it, pushing her mom van on towards the cafe as fast as it'll go.

You hold on for dear life.

>[1/2]
>>
You stumble out of the van in the parking lot outside of the cafe.

Jess is fine, but her reckless driving has your stomach turning.

"How ya feeling now?" She asks.
"... glad that I haven't eaten much today..." You say.
Jess stretches out, walks over to you, and slaps your back. "My driving's not that bad" She says. "We're still alive aren't we?"

"Debatable" You reply.
"What is?" She asks.
"I dunno" You say. "It's either the fact that we're still alive, or whether I'm ever getting into that van again..."

"We all have our own ways of blowing off steam" She says. "Mine happens to be my gas pedal"

You sigh. "You probably have plenty to blow off now" You say.
"Yyyyyyep" She says. "I told you, you should've let me yell at them"
"I'll keep that in mind for next time" You say, as you steady yourself and head towards the cafe.

Even though the shop is closed, the door is unlocked, so you walk right in. Abigail, Boss, and The Smith are all sitting at the counter, while Kyla sits at a far table. Seems like she's trying to put distance between her and the Smith...

"Hey guys, we're back!" You say, as people start noticing your presence.
"How'd it go with Claire?" Abigail asks.

"It went... ugh... I'll let Jessica fill you in" You say, turning your attention over to Kyla. 'You, I need to talk to"

"Me?" Kyla asks.

You head over to her table and sit down across from her.

"What's up?" She asks
"I have something I need to ask you, and I want the truth. Plain and simple" You say. "I've been informed that you've been holding out on me"

"I have to hold out on you, remember?" She asks.
"Not this way" You say. "Both the Traitor and the Smith have confirmed that you could have gone to them"

"And have to-"

"And saved me from all the reaching around in the dark that I've been doing for the past week" You say.
"And had to give up every last shred of pride that I have in the process" She says. "Does my pride mean so little to you?"

There really is a big difference between "Protecting humanity from the gods" and "Keeping the gods away because you, personally, hate them".
>>
>>43060171
It's like Kratos, from God of War. The gods WERE cruel, and needed to be deposed, but that wasn't why he chose to kill them.

He killed them because HE was personally wronged.
>>
"Yeah, it means that little to me" You say. "Because there are a lot of things that mean so much more"

"Like what?" She asks.

"Like what?" You reply in a strained whisper. It's taking a lot of effort not to shout at her right now... "How about the multiple times that I could have been killed, because I still had no idea what was going on. How would losing this Blood Moon have factored into your pride?"

Kyla says nothing.

"How about the fact that while I was groping around in the fuckin' dark, BOTH of my sisters were in danger" You say, letting go of your restraint. "I almost KILLED Safi that first night, and in case you hadn't noticed: Yui is dead. That's what your damn pride's gotten me. Compared to that, it's worth jack. Fucking. SHIT" You slam the table with your palm.

The room's attention was on you after you started yelling, but now you can really feel it.

You don't care. That felt good. In the long run, maybe venting all of this wasn't the best idea, but you don't even care about that right now.

The Smith stands from her chair at the counter and walks over to you and Kyla.

Look at Harvey, as well: he's delusional, and his pride won't allow him to admit that no one would EVER serve him, willingly; that's put Safi in more danger than ever.

Pride can be good, and it can be very, VERY bad.
>>
You want a comment that'll sting, you say "You really are one of them, aren't you? Humans are ants, even to the Guardian."
>>
>>43060724
I think it has less to do with her pride and everything to do with her hateboner for every god, regardless of alignment because she was personally slighted that one time.
It's kind of telling that she chose to manifest as a child at the beginning, because thats really what her mindset feels like. Also relevant that she never actually had a childhood, because she was born fully formed with everyone lusting and/or fighting wars for her.
>>
"Peachy" You say. "I was actually wondering just what it would have taken for the princess here to get you to come around"

"Uhh... I dunno" She says. "I'd probably just want permission to come around here more often. Not to meddle, just to craft"

"And if I make an exception for you-" Kyla begins.
"That is not how that works" You say. "You can make an exception for one person when they help you out. That's why it's called an exception"

Kyla glares at you. "That's not the point" She says.
"You're right" You say. "The point is that all for the price of letting one benevolent goddess hang around and make swords, you refused to so much as lift a finger to help me out"

"You did alright" She says.

"No. No I didn't" You say. "What part of any of this looks alright to you? Or is that just how everything seems from your angle, way up on high?"

"Don't you even-"

"Even what?" You ask. "Tell you the obvious truth? Your grudge against the gods got my sister killed, but you seem to think that your pride is more important than that"

"Saif-"

"The truth is that you're no different than them" You say. "You can deny it all you want, but there it is"

Kyla looks ready to burst, and to be honest you don't really care about what she has to say in response...

And with Blood Moon, it just might be damn well possible. We're a Time Mage, and Abby saying that there are applications of our magic we just haven't thought of, yet, just SCREAMS foreshadowing.

We're winning. But not for Kyla. We're winning for our friends.

We're winning to save people.

THAT'S what a Guardian does.

>>
You decide to open your mouth and extricate yourself before Kyla can rebut

"I'm going home" You say. "I could use some more rest, since tonight is going to be a long night"

You then turn and leave without another word. Someone is bound to come after you eventually, but hopefully they'll be understanding enough to give you your space for at least a little while.

The walk home is short, at least it feels that way to you. You enter fast time and whip up the stairs and into your apartment. There, you collapse onto your couch without a second thought.

You sigh, and close your eyes. "When the fuck did everything become so complicated?" You ask.

When this all started out, you were the lone good guy. The Guardian's champion out to protect Earth from the other evil champions...

But not only are the other champions not evil, but it seems like most of them are your friends and loved ones. On top of that, even the question of whether or not you are the good guy has become less cut and dry...

"Only when you started to dig, my dear" A familiar, sultry voice replies.

You open your eyes to find a pair of large breasts looming over you from behind the couch, and a familiar face peeking out from above them...

At some point in this conversation, I would be quite interested in this particular question:

<sigh> What would you have asked for, if Kyla had come to you?
>>
>>43061870
Wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to 'play' with her, dissolving her pride.
>>
"This had better be important" You say, covering your eyes with an arm.

"Not feeling well?" She asks.
"What do you think?" You ask, making no attempt to hide the venom in your tone.

"Still with the hostility" She says. "I take it you spoke to Kyla then?"

"I did" You say.
"And it went well?" She asks.
"Probably by your definition" You reply.
"I was being sarcastic, darling" She says. "The truth is rarely the easiest pill to swallow"
"You'd know a lot about swallowing, wouldn't you?" You ask.
"Nice one. Full marks" She says. "A better 'whore joke' than anything the runt's ever put out"

"I do try" You respond. "So what do you want?"
"To see how you're doing, and maybe help you out a little" She says.
"Help me out... how?" You ask, removing your arm to try and read her face.

Tasha smiles and giggles. "I knew that would get your attention" She says, as she walks around the couch to the front so she can sit down.

You sit up to make room for her, if only to keep yourself from stealing the occasional glance. As much as you don't like her, you really can't seem to control your eyes around her.

"So?" You ask.
"I have a deal for you" She says.
"What kind of deal?" You ask.
"A sort of give and take" She says. "You get 10 questions, which I must answer truthfully and to the best of my ability, but each question comes at a cost"

"What kind of cost?" You ask.
"Nothing too serious, and certainly nothing irreplaceable" She says. "A 'physical payment', of sorts"

"And you can't just answer my questions normally?" You ask.
"ah-ah-ahh~" She says, wagging her finger at you. "You get what you pay for, and free information will be bad information. This way, you can be certain that I'm telling you the truth"

You try to read her, only to be met with the usual sultry stare.

"So, do we have a deal?" She asks.

Anyway guys, I'm thinking that Kylas scorched earth solution to the blood moon problem is no longer viable, and that she is definitely not acting in our best interest. We need to figure out an alternate wish, potentially one that makes some sort of rule about whose allowed on earth, the smith, the scholar, and probably a few others are benevolent, and then theres a few like The Traitor who are actively mischievous but ultimately not a problem due to the scope of what they want.
>>
>>43062375
Trust me, we don't trust anything she says, we are just peaking through the door. Also so many shadowruns, including killing abigal, killing claire, burning our house down, faking our death, and moving to mexico. wishing the moon or the gods away in there entirety.
>>
Tasha leans closer to you, and you push her back with a hand on her forehead.

"How about you define exactly what 'physical payment' is first, then we'll talk" You say.
"I thought that might be obvious" She says. "Physical payment usually is"

"Yeah, but it could also be some less obvious versions" You say. "Like 'for every question I answer, I get an organ' or something"

"And just what would I do with one of your organs?" She asks.
"Why would you want to take the other kind of 'physical payment'?" You ask.

"Now there's a good question. Perhaps you could ask me that once I actually have to answer" She says.

"Alright then... what exactly will I have to do?" You ask. "I'm not gonna have to... y'know... everytime I ask you a question, am I?"

"Oh, heavens no" She says. "Not at first, at least. Payment will begin simply, and escalate with each question I answer. That is another key thing here: if I don't answer, you don't pay"

"What if the answer isn't satisfying?" You ask.
"Then don't make the payment satisfying" She says, pausing to see your reaction before laughing. "Kidding. I'll endeavor to give you the satisfaction you desire, if I can. Just remember: the truth is always a bitter pill"

"So it's ten questions, which you're trading for... 'escalating physical payment'" You say.
"Yes" She says.
"Any ten questions" You say.
"Yes" She says.

You hum as you consider her deal. It could prove useful, especially considering the fact that all she seems to want in return is to get in your pants...

"So...?" She says.

"No" You say. It definitely sounds too good to be true, which means that it probably is...

Tasha pouts, and sways her chest. "Aww... you think that lil ol' me is out to get you?" She asks.
"You intentions certainly don't seem pure" You say.

"Darling, If I really wanted to hurt you, I have much better ways of doing it" She says. "All I wanted was to give you an opportunity to get some valuable information and relieve some stress all at once"

"I'm sure those were your only motivations" You say.
She gives you a sly smile. "You think I'm so shallow, it almost hurts" She says. "My depth of character may surprise you, if you took the chance to explore it..."

Tasha leans towards you, not-so-subtly giving you a view of her "depth of character"

"So why don't you tell me why you wanted to trade information for sex?" You ask.
She studies your face for a moment, before taking a breath and smiling. "Fine. I suppose I can give you a freebie" She says. "You looked like you could use a pick-me-up, and I was starting to wonder what all the hubbub about you was"

"The hubbub about me?" You ask.
"Oh, don't even try to play dumb on that" She says. "I'm not the first woman to try and get into your pants. I'm not even the first goddess"

"Yeah... I noticed" You say.
"I wanted to see it for myself" She says, as she scoots towards you. Before you can react, she presses herself up against you and speaks in a seductive tone. "They could all be yours, you know"

"I-I'm sure they could..." You say, trying to shift away to no avail.
"All you would have to do is reach out..." She takes your hand, and places it on her breast. "... and claim them"

A knock comes at your door. "Saif... are you in there?" Abigail asks.

Your heart pounds in your chest, as Tasha gives you a sloppy kiss on the cheek.

"Farewell for now" She whispers in your ear. "Here's my card. Give me a call if you have seconds thoughts about our little deal"

It's a business card. Like... an actual business card. In big letters on its face are the words "Tasha Polovi, real estate agent", followed by phone numbers, a website and an email address.

It's actually a pretty nice business card, and it makes you wonder if the story about her being a landlord wasn't just some bullshit cover.

>>43063188
Oh but anon, Smiley likes it getting out of hand. He feeds off that.
>>
>>43063188
I still like her, not the crazy side but eh.

Openly stating where the fork in the roads was in DW created a shitstorm of epic proportion. Yeah, I can see him/her nipping that in the bud.
>>
>>43063188
Claire was shit before we knew she was the creator
>>

While he certainly seems to enjoy stirring things up with his characters, the Laura/Melissa Final Destination proved that he has a line; it gets to a point where it screws with quest progression.

You head over to the door, spotting Moriarty on top of the cupboards in the kitchen. You're about question just how he managed to get up that high, or why he went up there, when you remember that he is a cat.

"S-ssaif?" Abigail says again, quietly. You can barely hear her through the door. So you unlock it and swing it open.

Strange, you don't remember locking it when you came in. Your building is pretty close, so you don't tend to lock the door unless you're going out... Did Tasha lock your door with her voodoo? Did she seriously come here just to try and seduce you?

Well, either way it didn't work. You probably have Abigail to thank for that. You hadn't caved in yet, but your endurance doesn't have the best track record.

"H-hey" She says. No sooner is the door open, than she is inside.
"Yo, sorry about that" You say.
"No problem" She says. "I heard voices, is someone else here?"
"Nah... I was watching something" You say.

"Oh" She says.
"Something wrong?" You ask.
"There was this creepy guy staring at me in the hallway. You know him?" She asks.
"Tall, wide, grey hair, greasy clothes, eyepatch?" You ask.
"Yeah" She says.
"That's Walter, he lives up the hall. He does that" You say.
"It's cree- AH!"

Abigail shrieks as Moriarty pounces on her from the top of the cupboards, and you laugh as she pulls him away from her head.

So that's what he was up there for...

I love this cat.
>>
>>43063082
Seconded.
>>
You sit on the couch next to Abigail, who has Moriarty restrained in her lap. She keeps him held down, despite his occasional struggling. Abigail's hair is a mess, and she's a little mad that you were so busy laughing that you couldn't help her out.

But what can you say? Watching a kitten ambush someone is hilarious.

Abigail suddenly brightens up, turning back to her usual self. "So, how are you feeling?" She asks.
"Better" You say. "Still sad about last night, still mad at Kyla, but better"

"That's always good to hear" She says. "You had us worried when you stormed out like that"
"Sorry... I just..." You sigh, and scratch your head. "I didn't want to hear what Kyla had to say. This whole thing was difficult enough when I thought I was working for the good guys, but now..."

Abigail leans her head on your shoulder, but she says nothing.

"Now I'm not even sure if what was keeping me going is the right thing anymore" You finish.
"Then work out what the right thing is, and do that instead" She says.
"It's not quite so simple" You say.

"Not when you account for everything involved" She says. "Forget about all that stuff first, and simplify the situation. Once the situation is simple, the solution will be too"

"But then you have to add all those factors back in" You say.
"And you can add them to the solution and the problem together" She says. "Simple"

You look at her in surprise, because you're surprised.

Though you really shouldn't be. From the get-go, Abigail has been all about being straight-forward. Now that everything has gotten so complex... you're glad to have her around.

"But that can wait until later" She says. "When was the last time you ate?"
"Well... it would have been... uhh..." You say.
Abigail gives you a kiss on the cheek. "Then I think we should talk about this over dinner"

"Good plan" You reply.

That's all for tonight!

Oh my god I can't believe this fucking night isn't over yet... Should be 1, maybe 2 threads more at most.

Once this night is done, I'll be breaking from BM so I can finish DW, then I'll be back to run BM to the finish. Both quests are pretty close

After that, I'll probably hold a vote as to what I run next. I've got 3 possibles in varying states of readiness.

Next thread will probably be Friday or something... I honestly have no clue what's happening this week, but if I see a chance to run I'll take it.

As always I'll be sticking around for question/suggestion time
>>
>>43063767
Thanks for the run boss, spoilers on your new quest ideas?
>>
>>43063767
Great thread, Smiley!

What are the options? You mentioned something call 'Beyond the Gate', once.
>>
>>43063767
Dammit! Why didn't Jess come over and ask us if we wanted to eat? We could have made sex puns. The cat was right there and everything!
>>
>>43063785
>>43063808
The three options are:
Beyond the Gate- High fantasy, lighthearted quest involving the adventures of a clueless young amnesiac named Raul. Involves monster girls, and a villain so camp that I almost want to say fuck the vote and run this first just so I can write him

Untitled mech- sci-fi with the odd bit of light fantasy thrown in, about an interstellar smuggler who discovers that they're more than meets the eye

Into The Aether- If anyone remembers this, kudos. It's a quest I ran here a while back under a different handle, that I was really unsatisfied with and ended up dropping. Me and my co-writer have made some rather large tweaks to it, and we both feel like it's time to give it another go. It's a Sci-fi fantasy about a cybernetically augmented human that gets pulled from his battle against the machine uprising into a much larger conflict
>>
>>43063956
If the Mech one is like the wild west but giant mechs instead of six shooters I'm sold.
>>
>>43063956
I want to see you run high fantasy really badly, also monster girls
>>
>>43063956
You have a co-writer?
>>
>>43063974
If it's TriGun mixed with Firefly I'm so there
>>
>>43063994
Is he/she only co-writer for that quest?
>>
>>43063994
In ITA he was known as Co-writer-kun. But he also had a more direct involvement with the writing process of that quest. I still bounce ideas off of him from time to time, and the inspiration for Claire's character (who was male in the roughest drafts of Blood Moon) came from something he did while we were all drunk

Further setting info since people seem interested:
Set in a galaxy divided into about 6 factions, each of which either hate or love the others for various reasons. At the center of the conflict are the 'distributors', a mysterious bunch who are the only known source of the strange implants that make safe space travel possible. By controlling who gets how many implants, they control the tides of the constant conflicts, and the implants themselves. If you go against the rules set out by them, they kill your implant, effectively stranding you.

QMC is a smuggler who flies without implants, and is thus free of the 'distributors' stranglehold on space traffic. Shenanigans abound, also mechs.

>>43064175
Shenanigans are fun.

Mechs in this quest are all designed for use in outer space, as such they'll probably all have either less conventional humanoid forms, or forms that could hardly be considered humanoid at all. Whichever is more convenient for space combat

Humanoid robots are clunky on the ground, so any land battles will probably not involve them.

>>43064316
The year is 21XX or something, Earth has been taken over by an AI using an implant that allows it to control the human mind.

QMC is Logan, a cybernetically augmented fighter in the war against the machine. As he is about to be killed, he stumbles upon a dying alien who gives off an energy that his sensors can't identify. Alien tells him to take their shield, and he is transported across the universe to a far away place. There they tell him that he's the void knight now, and he must save the universe

Archive's here. It's not my best work, and I basically just spoiled the entire first thread
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Into%20the%20Aether%20Quest,

As for CWK, it involved him finding a winter glove and declaring himself to be the Progenitor. The Creator's original title was The Progenitor, and the oversized stone fist was inspired by the oversized winter glove. The french accent wasn't something I came up with until I started doing back grounds for these characters

Rad!

>>43064454
Will we get a choice of mech early in the game?
>>
>>43064614
First mech you get is one that you're smuggling. B\It's the base mech, all around mediocre stats, but you get several chances to upgrade it and make it either better or more specialized as you go along
>>
>>43064719
Coolio, could we possibly get new ones ala Ace Combat?
>>
>>43064757
For setting reasons, acquiring a new one will be both difficult and costly but not impossible
>>
>>43064781
Sweet, thanks for answering boss
>>
>>43064454
I remember playing in ITA.
Always wondered what happened to it.
