Well everybody, we're finally here, the final battle! Let's make this a good one and hope everybody comes out in one piece!

RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/5q9fPFjz

You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

Currently, you were doing the last test run on your freshly upgraded Morgan, now sporting a new control system. Unfortunately, you didn't really have much time to get familiar with it, as there was only a few days until OB's deadline to start launching their nukes. Samantha had already distributed the location of OB's base to the world, and now pretty much every warplane on the planet was headed there to take out OB once and for all.

"So? How is it?" Smokey's voice buzzes over the radio.

"It's... different, for sure." You nod, trying to keep your concentration so that your Morgan didn't suffer a false control signal.

"Now, if the current sensitivity is too much for you, we can always scale it back." Smokey explains. "I know increased sensitivity will give you better control of your plane, but it'll also make you more vulnerable to mistakes."

"Yes, yes, I know." You nod and check your panel.

The +2 ACM *and* 2 rerolls is worth it. With this, it's simply much less likely that we'll fail at all.

Karla has an ACM of 5. Bringing that to ACM 6 and 1 reroll, or ACM 7 and *two* rerolls... I think I'm going to go with the higher skill and more rolls.

We have to roll a 7 or lower to succeed, and we get rerolls. I think that's pretty damn powerful and worth it.

>>
>>43115093
So just the 10ACM? Right, thats not ever going to be worth instant critfails.
>>
>>43115060

Well I imagine the rerolls would be pointless. Rerolls only happen in case of failure, and at ACM 10 there would BE no failure barring a 10.

And rolling a 10, you fail and not even rolling a 1 will save you.

So in other words, at 100%, rerolls don't even do anything due to how 10-automatic-fail works.

... But there's no functional difference between any number.

There's no real difference between "1s autofail" and "10s autofail".

The chance of rolling any given number is the same. Merc Command might as well have said "4s are autofail because 4 is death" and percentage-wise it makes no difference.

So I'm not sure what your point is. The system did change, but probably not the way you thought it did if you think your explanation made sense.

Merc Command, how do the rerolls interact with rolling a 10?

Does it mean that we get to reroll that 10 once or twice per turn? Or does it just mean that if we roll 3 times for a test and don't pass, we get to roll 1 or 2 more times?

Actually, wait, what do you mean when you say 1 or 2 rerolls? Is that "once or twice this whole thread, you can reroll a failure" or is it a "each test you make, you gain 1 or 2 rerolls"?

This is actually a pretty big question, because I was assuming that the rerolls were "per test" rather than "You can reroll once or twice for the whole thread."

"I'm pretty sure I can handle it at 75% output." You assure Smokey. "Flying a plane with my mind may be weird, but it's surprisingly quick to pick up."

"Well, whatever you say." Smokey grunts. "Come on in and land on the Gullinbursti and we'll get your weapons loaded. The others have already launched and are en route to target. Looks like Osea decided to start the party early."

One of your screens, well, one of the images being projected directly into your eyes lights up to show a shot from a news helicopter, the camera showing dozens of planes streaking towards a large, solitary mountain in the desert.

"-the President has confirmed this is the base of the terrorist group One Belka, which has threatened to fire nuclear weapons on cities around the world. It appears that Osea has committed it's full might to destroying this base. We'll try to stay on the air as long as we can-"

"How long till they can get the cannon ready to fire?" You ask.

"Looking a the specs pretty boy brought us, I figure it'll take them two hours if they decide to rush it." Smokey grumbles. "Not a lot of time, so we gotta get moving! Tell us what you need and we'll get it ready for you once you land!"

"Get those QAAMs ready to load up when I land." You instruct.

"Gotcha! One load of QAAMs, coming right up!"

You do a quick landing on the Gullinbursti, the new level of control you have over your Morgan making the carrier landing painfully simple. With just one focused thought, your Morgan automatically throttles back to the ideal landing speed, touching down on the flying landing strip with room to spare.

"Didn't even have to use the arresting cables." Smokey whistles, impressed.

"What can I say, I really hate those things." You grin.

"All right, give us two minutes!" Smokey says as he waves his crew forward. Like ants, the weapons crew start crawling out of their hangar stations, pulling in numerous QAAMs loaded on carts.

You then hear a knock on your canopy and see Samantha standing on a boarding ladder to the side. You open up and she hands you a water bottle, which you happily take to quench your parched mouth.

"What's the news?" You ask.

"The rest of your squad is already en route. They'll be ready to engage in ten minutes." Samantha says. "But I've instructed for them to hold off until you link up with them. Gullinbursti will also be moving forward to act as a forward airbase for anybody that needs it."

"Okay. And the battle?"

"Well, aircraft from Osea, Yuktobania, and a number of smaller allied countries have already converged on Vengeance." Samantha explains. "From what I hear, it's a real furball going on over there. I recommend we wait for more reinforcements to funnel in, get OB proper distracted before we try the attack plan."

"That's going to be a lot of dead pilots." You frown.

"I know, but I don't see us pulling this off if you start picking up heat right away." Samantha sighs.

"Don't worry, I can handle it." You say. "Besides, we've been in the thick of it all this time. No sense in letting anybody else steal the glory, right?"

"I guess you're right." Samantha laughs. "Okay, then you'll be going in immediately. We've already got Wolf and Butterfly Teams ready to back you up. Babylon's already mobilized, too."

"Any other notable pilots or squadrons out there, yet?" You ask.

"Well, it looks like our old friend Revenant is back." Sam grins. "But other than that, nothing much. But it's still early in the battle. Anything's possible."

"I suppose." You nod.

"All right, you're loaded up and ready to go!" Smokey announces, banging the side of the Morgan. "Let's go!"

"Good luck out there." Samantha says. "You need any repairs or reloads, you know where to go."

"Thanks." You flip your helmet visor down and close your canopy, linking your mind back to the Morgan's control system.

The Gullinbursti's catapult launches you out, and almost immediately your sense are bombarded from the transmissions emanating from the battle space. Status reports, curses, panicked screaming, everything.

"Valkyrie, do you read?" Loki's voice cuts through the racket like a knife.

"Yeah, I read you." You confirm.

"Good. There's a lot of shit going on up there, so I'll point out the priority targets for you." Loki says. "Osea is currently trying to land commandos inside the base's airstrip to try and sabotage Vengeance from the inside, or at least buy us some time. That means we need to suppress the air defenses. Yuktobanain heavy bombers are also inbound for an attack run, and are going to need protection. Not to mention, OB seems to have experienced flyers out there, because they're decimating the allied fighter formations."

Is clearing a path for the Commandos going to involve destroying ground targets?

BECAUSE IF SO, DO NOT PICK! Our Air-to-Ground is our WORST skill.

We would be horribly wasted on that.

>>43116587
>Engage OB fighters.

We're kinda shit at Air-to-Ground, so we won't be good at clearing a path for the commandos.

And all the challenge seems to be in the OB Fighters -- so we should probably tackle that, because we have the best plane.

>Yuktobanain heavy bombers are also inbound for an attack run, and are going to need protection.

Hm, hey, would the Butterflies be really good at this one?

Because IIRC, one of the Butterflies had a "you can't fire missiles at me" area-of-effect thing, right?

Now THAT would be an AWESOME thing to stick in the middle of a formation of bombers, wouldn't it?

And then the rest of the Bomber's escorts can take on any attackers using long-range missiles of their own, plus guns.

So yeah, that still means that our best choice is taking on OB's fighters.

(And clearing ground stuff is still the least-suitable choice.)

>>
>>43116785
ADDMs work for both anti-air and anti-ground. I think they'd be suited for mass missile strikes on those gun emplacements. Wolf's squadron have better dogfighting experience under their belt and their raptors have better performance when it's a standoff between fighters, so I think they would be in their element running bomber escort.

ADDM is the macros-missile spamming one? Or is it the defends-your-ass-from-missiles thing?

I suppose what might really make-or-break this choice would be which group has the better Air-to-Ground skill, probably. Or if one is really good at Air-to-Air.

F-22s are pretty good at AtA tho', so.

"Amy, might as well help Wolf out." You continue.

"Heh, don't have to tell me twice." Amy laughs evilly as her A-10 dives down to attack altitude.

You wonder whether you should go in with them or hang back to watch their backs. A quick check of your radar doesn't show Tombstone's aircraft anywhere. Were they holding him back for now?

You figure that if you'll fight Tombstone once he decides to show up. Right now, there were enemies you could take out right away. You hit the afterburners on your Morgan and boost in towards the thickest of the furballs. To your eyes, it was a swarm of tiny shapes and vapor trails as planes and missiles zoomed about in every conceivable direction. Hell, even your HUD could barely keep up with tracking all these targets at once, the blue friendly boxes constantly being mixed in with the red hostile ones.

Yeah this was going to be a tough one.

With a simple mental impulse, it was a simple matter to merge right into the furball with little issue. Between the radar returns and EOTS sensors being fed directly to your eyes, and your unparalleled control of your own craft, it was almost child's play. You easily slip in behind a few OB fighters, and a twitch of your finger is all you need to do to arm your cannons.

With a mental pull of the trigger, you let loose a stream of tracers, slicing apart a pair of Su-35s with sustained cannon fire. A third Su-35 eats a burst to one of its tail fins, and it dives away, desperately trying to escape. However, it doesn't get far as Lilian swoops down in her Typhoon, finishing it off with a cannon burst of her own, separating the cockpit from the rest of the craft with a cold precision.

Lara, meanwhile, falls in behind you and starts firing off missiles with a loud whoop. You see a pair streak over your cockpit as they swirl and about and slam into another flight pair of Su-35's, sending them back to the ground in pieces.

Babylon seems to be holding his own, too. Letting loose a pair of missiles to take out a Su-35, sending the stricken craft crashing into the side of the mountain.

"Hey, those planes..."

"Is that..."

"It's the Wild Cards!"

Well, looks like the jig was up. You hear cheering over the friendly comm channels, and a familiar shape dives past you.

"Heya, Wild Cards, long time no see!" Revenant laughs, his Wyvern shifting its wings as it throttled back its speed. "Should've figured I'd see you girls all here! Got some nice upgrades too, I see!"

"Well, it's good to see you, too." You grin.

"Yo! Revenant! What up?" Lara says happily as her Eagle shoots past, knocking another Su-35 out of the air with a well aimed cannon burst to the engines.

"Raking in the dough. You won't believe how much Osea's paying to get this wrapped up!" Revenant chuckles. "Whoops, looks like there's one bird giving some guys trouble. I'll catch you guys later!"

With that, Revenant's Wyvern takes off, leaving nothing but vapor trails in its wake.

Huh... was he talking about Tombstone?

"I see it." You nod. "That's definitely Tombstone."

"Goddamn, it's FAST." Revenant says, a bit of anticipation in his voice. "Might actually be a challenge!"

Unfortunately, as you track Tombstone's movement, you see him heading to intercept the Yuktobanian bomber formation, the one the Butterflies were guarding.

"Butterflies, watch out! Tombstone is incoming!" You warn over the radio.

"We see him." Echo says calmly. "Moving to engage."

You quickly consider your options. With Revenant and the Butterflies, Tombstone would effectively be going up against 5 aces in high end aircraft by himself. Long odds for any pilot, but then again, Tombstone at this point was no longer an ordinary pilot...

"Shit!" Revenant curses as he dives away, dropping flares and chaff. "You're on your own for now, Valkyrie!"

that depend on how low Merc want it to be.

well merc has to roll for Tombstone's ACM skills. And there definitely will be some modifiers to account for Tombstone being fully sync'ed his plane. but he definitely won't be able to dodge that 1.

You fire off a flurry of missiles, which all streak in at Tombstone. You see Tombstone's Tactical Laser System light up and a sapphire white beam lances out, incinerating two of your regular missiles as they evaporate in a puff of smoke. The laser continues on, searing off the top halves of your tailfins.

However, Tombstone doesn't come out of this unscathed, either. The QAAM is agile enough that takes a wide arc around the path of the laser beam, and explodes right below the Falken, showering the hull with flames and debris. You see electrical feedback surge through the TLS module mounted on the Falken's belly, and it falls free as Tombstone ejects it. The TLS falls for a few seconds before exploding like an oversized firecracker.

Well, there went his most heavy hitting weapon, but Tombstone was still far from being knocked out of the fight.

"All right, I'm back!" Revenant announces. "I'm heading for your position right now!"

"All right, let's try to catch him in a pincer." You say. "There's no way he can attack in two directions at once."

"Got it!" Revenant affirms. "On your mark, then."

You wait for the moment you and Tombstone pass, the shockwave caused by the sheer speed of Tombstone's craft rattling both you and your Morgan to the bone. Immediately, you both begin the merge to try and gain position on each other.

"Go, Revenant!" You yell.

From the clouds, Revenant's Wyvern pounces, coming in for a head on attack at Tombstone while you come in from behind.

You and Revenant each fire off a volley of missiles at Tombstone. Honestly, there was no way Tombstone could dodge them all. With one last defiant, electronic roar, Tombstone fires all off his remaining QAAMs as he disappears in a cloud of smoke and fire.

"Whoa shit!" Revenant cries as he dives away again.

You see as two missiles pop out of the cloud and head towards you, intent on hunting you down.

Honestly, if you weren't using this new control system, you doubted if would have been able to dodge these missiles at all. However, with your Morgan moving at the speed of thought, you immediately hit afterburners and speed towards the QAAMs, executing a last second roll to avoid colliding with the projectiles. You pass so close to the QAAMs, that not even they could kinematically match your movements, and explode uselessly in the sky.

You quickly scan the area, to confirm Tombstone really was gone for good. You check your radar, and see that it's just you and Revenant. Visually, you saw no sign of Tombstone's plane. Just a cloud of smoke where it used to be.

"Nice kill, Valkyrie." Revenant says appreciatively.

"Nah, you got the kill." You insist.

"Let's just say we both did and split it 50/50." Revenant laughs.

"I can go with that." You nod.

Meanwhile, down below, you could the see the Yuke bombers carpet bombing the mountain, dropping a combination of regular bombs and bunker busters. Explosions ripple across the mountain and Vengeance, but you can't tell the extent of the damage.

"Warning! I'm getting reports that Vengeance is preparing to fire!" Loki warns. "The cannon doors are opening!"

"What?!" You blink. "It hasn't even been two hours yet!"

"They must've skipped several startup procedures." Babylon says grimly. "Shooting it in that state may kill them all, but I guess they figure if they can even get one shot off it's a win for them."

"Damnit!" You grunt.

Suddenly, you see the Gullinbursti fly in, lobbing tracers and missiles as it makes a direct course for the mountain.

"I don't want to do this, but if it comes to it, we'll use Gullinbursti to block the barrel if we can't stop it." Samantha says, trying to hide the nervousness in her voice. "Karla, you're up. It's now or never!"

"Right." You nod as you aim the nose of your Morgan downwards.

"Wait, what are you-"

Revenant never has a chance to finish as you dive down as full speed, aiming for a small opening at the peak of the mountain. Vengeance's barrel.

"Valk, watch out, we've got bandits breaking off to go after you!" Lara shouts.

"You need to break off!" Lilian warns.

Your eyes dart to your radar display, and sure enough, you could see practically what's left o the entire OB air force coming at you to stop you. At all costs, apparently.

"I can't stop now." You grimace. "Like Samantha said, it's now or never."

You watch as the end of the barrel grows larger and larger. However, even though you were diving at an incredible speed, it still felt as if you were moving at a crawl, especially with your radar warning receiver constantly screaming from dozens of missiles locks. For a moment, you didn't think you were going to make it.

However, all of a sudden, radar contacts begin disappearing from the radar screen.

"What the-?!"

You turn to see three aircraft streak past you. One was a yellow Su-37, another was a blue Typhoon with a red nose, and the last was an F-22 that you didn't immediately recognize, but it certainly wasn't part of Wolf Team.

"I thought I taught you better than that." You hear a familiar voice tut.

"Professor?!?" You cry.

"It's been a long time since I flew a fighter, but you never forget." Professor Fleisher

"I saw what was happening on the news and I couldn't just sit by and watch." Altman joins in. "I won't let the ghosts of our past destroy our future."

"Professor... Altman..." You nearly tear up.

"Go on, we have you covered." Fleisher laughs.

The F-22 meanwhile, remains silent. It just tips one of its wings to you before turning away, wiping out six Su-35s in a single pass. Whoever that guy was, he was GOOD.

"Hurry up, Valk! We'll be right behind you!" Lara says.

"Wait, what?!" You blink.

"No way we're letting you go in alone." Lilian says.

"Yeah, can't let you hog all the credit!" Amy laughs.

"No problem!" Lara says cheerfully.

You then plunge into the barrel of Vengeance, going right down the throat of the beast. Your rear optical sensor confirms the rest of your squadron following you in.

"Watch out, it looks like they're loading the shell!" Samantha warns. "If they lock it in, you'll basically be trapped in the barrel!"

"We can just shoot it, right? Amy asks.

"W-won't that trigger the nukes?" Lilian asks nervously.

"They shouldn't. Nuclear weapons are built with lots of safeties built in, and nuclear material doesn't explode unless under very specific circumstances." Samantha says. "At least, that's what I've read."

But I couldn't remember where it was or what it was called, and nobody ever reposted it, so searching for it was a bitch. But now, now I finally found it, in time for the last thread.

It was in Ace Combat Quest 18.

You let loose with your missiles and watch them streak down the barrel of Vengeance, disappearing at the end in a distant flash of light.

Considering you were still alive, you guessed that you actually didn't set off any nuclear weapons, which as a plus. Soon enough, you shoot out of the breech of the gun, and find yourself in the base's cavernous maintenance tunnels. Below, you could see surprised technicians running or diving for cover.

"You... you know the way, right, Valk?" Amy asks nervously.

"Yeah, I memorized it." You nod. "Trust me."

Even though you said that, the flight was much more harrowing than you figured it would be, and you had the benefit of having mental control over your plane. Your wingmates didn't have the same luxury, so you were figuring they had to be TERRIFIED. Well, Lilian and Amy, at least. Lara practically lived for this kind of stuff.

Soon enough, the tunnels open up into a cavernous room filled with massive storage tanks the size of small office buildings.

"Is this...?"

"Yeah, Angel, the target." You say, arming your weapons. "Fire at will! Take out every tank you can see!"

The next few seconds is a flurry missiles and bullets as you and your squad unload, punching holes in tanks and causing others to explode in clouds of steam and water.

Suddenly, you see the entire facility begin to shake.

"What's going on?!" Amy cries.

"Wild Cards!" Loki's voice buzzes in. "It looks like the base has taken more damage than we thought! Thermals are going off the charts! You need to get out of there!"

"There's also a bit of a problem." Samatha adds. "It looks like OB's flooding the maintenance tunnels, I think in an effort to keep you from escaping. The planned extraction route might be a no go."

"Well what do we do then!?" You ask as you fire off another pair of missiles into what seemed to be the final coolant tank. Warning klaxons inside the base begin to shriek in alarm.

"Well, uh, you can try pulling a U-turn and flying back out of the cannon." Samantha suggests.

"You're asking us to pull a U-turn INSIDE A MOUNTAIN!?" You groan.

Thank god you were all in planes that were pretty good at turning, and Lara was skilled enough to be able to turn a big heavy fighter like the F-15 in such a tight space. Suddenly, the entire mountain rumbles even harder this time, which debris falling from the ceiling and cracks forming along the walls.

"Shit! The reactor is going critical already! Get out of there! GO GO GO!" Samantha yells.

"Wild Cards, WE ARE LEAVE!" You yell as you punch your throttle. At this point, speed was the lesser risk here. Fortunately, you manage to get through the tunnels with relatively little issue until you return to the barrel of Vengeance. From there, it's one straight run to the exit.

"FUUUUUCK." Amy yells. "It's a fucking inferno behind us!"

"Faster faster faster!" You chant as you try to coax more speed out of your already badly taxed Morgan. Up ahead, the small opening at the end of the barrel grows larger and larger....

And then you're out, back in open sky where you belong!

...only to see a Su-35 diving straight at you.

"Shi-"

Only for said Su-35 to explode as an F-16 swoops by.

"Hah, now we're even, Valk!" Milly laughs.

"Goddamnit Milly you little snot!" You laugh.

"All right, all units, evacuate the area!" Loki says proudly. "The Wild Cards have done it!"

There's a loud cheer over the radio net as all of the remaining allied planes all form up on you, embarrassingly enough.

"Three cheers for the Wild Cards!" You hear one pilot whoop.

"Wild Cards! Wild Cards! Wild Cards!"

"Haha, do you hear that, Valk? We're motherfucking heroes now!" Lara laughs.

"To think we'd go this far..." Lilian chuckles.

"I have to admit... you're not so bad for a Belkan." Amy says.

"Haha, fuck you too, Amy." You laugh.

But still, being celebrated like this was both kind of endearing and embarrassing at the same time.

And then the mountain that used to be One Belka's headquarters explodes in a cloud of nuclear fire. A rather fitting close for a successful mission.

"Heh, this looks about a good a time as any for you girls to retire." Samantha says happily. "Pretty sure at this point we've all made enough to retire more than comfortably on."

You pause to think about it. Sure, living the mercenary life wasn't exactly one of your ideal career paths, but... well... maybe it wouldn't be so bad if you stuck with it just a little while longer...

"Yeah, you're right. Maybe I should get out of the mercenary business." You say, looking around at the sky above you. The time you had spent on Sand Island really put things into perspective. Flying in a sky of peace... without having to worry about killing or being killed. That's what they really wanted all along, wasn't it?

"Yeah, that's understandable." Samantha says. "You know what, you can keep the Morgan. I honestly don't think that plane belongs in anybody else's hands besides yours and Pixy himself, wherever the hell he might be.

"Thanks, Samantha." You grin.

You bring your Morgan in to land on the Gullinbursti one last time. You see Jager jog up to greet you, and you don't even wait for the ladder to be set up. You stand up in your cockpit and leap down, trusting he was quick witted enough to catch you.

"You're in an awful hurry." He grins.

"Let's just say I wanted to celebrate once I got back." You return the grin.

"Hm, yeah, everybody's getting ready to throw a party." Jager nods.

"Heh, I was thinking something a bit more 'private.'" You chuckle.

"Oh... OH." Jager's face actually reddens a bit.

However, the moment is interrupted when Lara, Lilian, and Amy all tackle hug you, and by extension, Jager as well.

Heh, wingmates. Can't get rid of em, can't live without em.

In the aftermath of the destruction of Vengeance, along with presumably all of its senior leadership, One Belka had effectively been ended as a cohesive terrorist group. The site of their former headquarters is now nothing but a ruin, anything of value that wasn't destroyed in the blast is buried under countless tons of rock, irradiated by the destruction of its nuclear reactor.

And as for the Wild Cards, those four heroines who saved the day, and the world, they all went their separate ways after the battle, pursuing their own interests. They may no longer fly as a squadron, but they can still be found, trying to make a difference in their own ways. Whether they will fade into history, or take up the call when a new threat arises, we have yet to see.

As for the Morgan that Karla Wiess, had flown, which allegedly was flown by Solo Wing Pixy in the Belkan War, well, its whereabouts remain unknown despite many groups desiring to acquire it for its historical value...

ARTEMIS PERSONNEL

Quint stayed on with Artemis and basically continued doing what he always did, buy low, and sell exorbitantly high. However, it's rumored that there's only one person he's willing to sell to at a discount, and for some reason, aircraft parts in his presence always have a tendency of going missing...

Smokey left Artemis shortly after the final battle with OB, deciding now was as good time as any to retire. He spends most of his time traveling around the Osean continent to sightsee, and even though he's retired, Smokey still performs his trade from time to time, mostly as favors to those in need and to those he's close to.

General Treister was forced to retire from Artemis after he was unable to give the board an adequate answer as to why the Gullinbursti was never returned to their inventory. However, Treister has taken his forced retirement in stride, finding a new niche in "consulting" with movie companies for "realistic depictions of combat".

BABYLON

Not much is known about what happened to Babylon after the final battle, other than that all records of anybody going by that callsign end there. Some have been led to believe he had been killed in action, while others theorize he was given a new identity as part of the deal for his defection.

JONATHAN IRONS

Irons of course continued business as usual within Atlas. Thanks to the efforts of Artemis mercenaries as well as the public exposure he received participating in the final battle against One Belka, Irons managed to gain a dominant market share in the natural resource market in the Round Table. The Atlas company continues to grow, and has attracted the attention of other corporations such as Neucom and General Dynamics.

THE BUTTERFLIES

In a rather surprising move, the Butterflies had decided to quit Atlas opting instead to join up with a much smaller mercenary company. While a regrettable setback, Irons honored their wishes and allowed them to keep their aircraft. When asked, he remarked that the Butterflies had paid back his investments several times over.

They still maintain regular contact with their childhood heroes, the Wild Cards. However, all four girls are determined to forge their own path in the endless skies above, rather than forever cling to the shadows of those that came before them.

JAGER

Jager quit Artemis shortly after the final battle with One Belka. He's now become something of a soldier of fortune, up for hire to anybody that needs a particular problem solved. He also happens to be in a committed relationship with Karla Weiss, though nobody knows when the actual marriage will start.

TARIN

Tarin stayed with Artemis, and eventually was promoted to take Jager's place. Not much is known about what she does, as many of her missions and actions are shrouded in secrecy. However, there are rumors abound that she is responsible for a number of high profile corporate thefts and sabotage, and that she's tasked with keeping an eye on certain potential troublemakers. However, who can say where her true loyalties lie?

WOLF

Wolf left Artemis shortly after the final battle against One Belka, citing "personal reasons". Afterwords, he had dropped out of the public for some time before resurfacing as a pilot working under a certain startup mercenary company.

SAMANTHA WELLINGS

Correctly predicting she'd be sacked from the company due to disobeying the Board, Samantha "quit" her job, taking as much company resources with her as possible. This includes the aerial battleship Gullinbursti, which she's now repurposed as the mobile headquarters of her new startup company, Wild Card Security.

In addition, to equipment, Samantha also made off with many skilled personnel, including Wolf and the Butterflies. So far, she seems in good spirits, if not a little overworked. After all, she's finally in a position to call the shots, rather than having to obey them.

Milly stayed on with the Belkan Air Force, quickly shooting up in the ranks. Before she knew it, she was leading her own squadron of nuggets that she continually stresses out and frets over.

She also remains constant close relations with her surrogate older sister, Karla. She also serves as a rival to the Butterflies, both in the skies and for Karla's attention.

WEISS FAMILY
Papa and Mama Weiss were both content to live quietly in retirement. However, if there's something odd that can be said about them, it's Papa Weiss building a "summer home" on Sand Island, even though the island is essentially a deserted military base....

Uncle Weiss officially retired from the Belkan intelligence community, and now spends his time being somewhat of an adoptive father for Milly, often being the one to keep her behavior and infamously short temper in check.

After the Wild Cards were disbanded, Lilian returned to her wealthy family in Osea, where she transitioned into managing a number of charities designed to assist military veterans and survivors of past wars. She also uses her vast family wealth to "invest" in certain startup companies to get them up and running.

And with her marriage to Shiba set for within the year, the union of the two financially powerful families could have the potential of creating a new business empire.

However, despite being a public figure and being under much scrutiny not just for being a former Wild Card, but also due to her position, Lilian still finds ways to disappear from the public eye to be able to meet her old comrades in private.

After the Wild Cards were disbanded, Amy returned home to Ustio, where she was greeted by her family with open arms. Still having an itch to fly, Amy took up a position in the Ustio Aviation Museum, where she flies many of the exhibition craft including Pixy's old F-15C.

However, Amy has also become rather famous for finding the original F-15 flown by the Demon Lord of the Round Table himself. After being forced to emergency land in an abandoned field due to mechanical issues, Amy stumbled across the plane hidden in an abandoned barn. She now leads the restoration efforts and hopes to be able to fly it in the air again someday.

Observers have also noted she lives with an unknown male, of whom she gets in constant arguments with. Nobody is quite sure how the two can live together with such open hostility towards each other....

LARA WILLIAMS

Unlike her fellow Wild Cards comrades, Lara simply couldn't give up flying warplanes. At first considering returning to Emmeria, Lara was persuaded to stay in Osea when Samantha recruited her into Wild Card Security. She now flies as Wolf's wingmate, and the two have become practically inseparable both in the air and on the ground.

She still constantly pesters Karla about flying on her wing again, which she sorely misses. When asked, she says that she has always and will only ever consider Karla as her best and most favorite wingmate.

KARLA WEISS

Not much is known about the hero Karla Weiss after she defeated One Belka once and for all. Shortly after the battle, she quit Artemis and dropped out of the public eye, often being seen in various places around the world with her fiance/bodyguard, Jager. However, the places she is seen the most commonly are at Sand Island, and the Osean War Memorial. Theories abound as to what each of these sites mean to her, with some going to far as to suggest that she's looking for the Demons of Razgriz.

When asked about the matter, Karla only ever gave a sly smile and jokes that if her pilot gig failed, she could fall back on being a ghost hunter...

Karla sat at the bar, casually sipping an innocent rum and coke. By now, she had learned that it was best to carefully regulate her alcohol consumption, lest she do very.... odd things.

Right now, she was waiting for Jager to finish up a little job. She didn't know what it was, nor did she really want to. What Jager did was pretty secretive, and honestly, the less she knew about it, the better. However, this bar, even though it seemed a little seedy, wasn't so bad. The drinks weren't watered down, it was quiet, and musician here could play a really sick Sapin guitar.

However, the nice music finally stops as the musician takes a break, seating himself next to Karla.

"Can I help you?" Karla asked raising an eyebrow in curiosity

"Maybe you can." The musician gives a toothy grin. "I've seen you flying around in my bird for some time now. I just wanted to make sure you were taking good care of her..."
