1-50 Thread Summary: http://pastebin.com/DYy8w24r
51-100 Thread Summary: http://pastebin.com/wx3HtRT5

You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you are the Imperiate – the one true tyrant of the thousand hells. Or something like that, anyway. You’re working on it.

So you’ve killed the emissary of Mardusia, a demon shadow dude named Lucifer. His boss Sulkrasph wants you to be Imperiate for him, or whatever. But the whole disrespecting you by going behind your back and trying to kill you doesn’t fly.

Now you’re in kind of a tough bind. The fief doesn’t have any big power players to back you up, but between Ushologuissa, Sulkrasph, and Hassatur, you think your little spot of hell on earth might be in trouble.

--

You, Isaac, and Cassandra sit around in the study, Isaac behind his desk, Cass in a comfy leather chair to the side, and you in a similar chair off to the other side.

You meeting with your fake-but-kind-of-real parents is made more serious by the fact that you are all wearing pajamas.

Isaac leans forward, resting his elbows on his desk. “Cassandra and I... we think we should all come together to reevaluate your role in all these politics,” he says.

Cass gives you a soft smile. “It’s not that we don’t think you can’t hack it,” she says. “I think now more than anytime, you’re ready. We’re just thinking that... maybe in a few years, you might have other ideas of things you want to do. And maybe, it could be that you’d be more ready, if you really want to try following in your mom’s footsteps.”
>>
>>43123016

But Isaac is more firm. “Sierra, there’s only so much we can do. We can’t protect you when Waldric and who knows who else is dragging your name through hell,” he says. “What you’ve told me about the Yellow King... I can keep him at bay on his own. But if he’s working with this Archduke, or someone else, that’s a lot scarier than you may realize. Especially with the Norks -”

“North Koreans, baby,” says Cass.

Isaac gives her a slightly impatient look, but shakes it off. “The Yellow King is making friends above land,” he says. “He’s been planning something for a long time now. I’d rather he not change those plans to target you somehow. Right now, all we know is that he wanted you to leave. Maybe he’s afraid of you, with you coming into your power. We already know he’s been trying to destabilize things here by interfering with the struggle between Waldric’s conclave and Ushologuissa’s servants.”

Cassandra smiles again, a little sadly. “You see? It just might not be a good idea to be a link in the chain, right now. But you have college coming up, and you’re studying magic, and I know you’re dating that Wolfgang Crowther. Let somebody else worry about things for a while, why not. You have a full plate.”

Wow. Isaac and Cass really don’t want you messing around with Conclave stuff after hearing about the whole Waldric/Lucifer situation.

>As much as that sounds nice or whatever, I can’t just ignore this. It’s not going to go away. I got at least one demon lord who knows about me now.
>Well. I don’t know. I’ve just kind of been winging it. Get it? Because... wings? Uh. But. I need to think about this.
>But... I’m like, the only thing holding everything together right now. Ranthix hates Waldric. And I thought you guys didn’t trust him. I know I don’t after what he did.
>I was only doing this crap cause you guys said maybe it would help things out. If it’s not, then... fuck it. You’re right. I have better, non-BS things to do.

this would be so much easier if we just assembled a strike team and went straight for the boss. Hassattur is a no-go with all the water on his side and all the fire and oxygen-dependancy on ours, but an archduke could be doable.

it's worth floating the idea at least, to see what Isaac thinks of it. at the very least it would help gauge their power levels.

Being targeted by infernal assassins can not.

If things escalate enough, we might have to distance us from the Hallows in order to protect them. Mostly from their own kind.

This is a good point to make. >>43123135
We don't need to take over everything right now, but we should strengthen our position. We have plenty of time for college and world domination if we don't die in the here and now.
>>
>>43123245
After we're forced to kill Satt it's not going to make much difference.
>>
So what are we going to do about Satt? Is she still around or did Isaac tell her to fuck off?
>>
>>43123340

Isaac told her to scram a while ago.
>>
You snort. “As much as that sounds nice or whatever, I can’t just ignore this,” you say. “It’s not going to go away. I got at least one demon lord who knows about me know. Plus I’m like, the only thing holding crap together right now. Ranthxi hates Waldric with the fury of a thousand suns.” You narrow your eyes at them. “And I thought you guys didn’t trust him. I know I don’t after what he did.”

“Sierra, sweetie, you have a big heart, but sometimes you have to tell everyone else to screw themselves,” says Cass, a strong wave of anxiety and care emanating from her. “You’re making yourself a target.”

You didn't realize Cassandra could be so... direct about things.
>>
>>43123446

“I’ve talked about it with Deletrius,” says Isaac. “He can resign as Magister and take up the mantle of baron. The Second Magister, Acatra, I trust her. She can hold things down just fine. We can put Waldric on the back burner for the time being. He’ll have a new wife to take care of, and he’ll need time for that.”

>Guys. College can wait. I’m immortal. But if I get sliced up by hell riders or shadow assassins or something, I’m dead. Now’s not really the best time to back down.
>Switching out barons isn’t going to work. Deletrius is... he’s the freaking Magister. He’s good at his job. And maybe Waldric’s shifty, but the whole show runs on his watch, through his reputation with people. You can’t just make him abdicate.
> Sulkrasph is the only new problem here. Waldric can deal with Ushola, you can deal with the Yellow King. What if... what if I just pulled together some hit squad? Like. All stars. And we penetrated into the depths of hell and totally merced the Archduke in his sleep? Is that... that could work, couldn’t it?
>I don’t know about this. Maybe... should I just leave? I mean. I’m only really a target if I’m in the middle of everything. The Yellow King just wants me out of the picture. Sulkrasph isn’t omnipotent, it’s not like he can operate anywhere in a country that hates demons as much as the US.
>Are you sure about this? I really don’t... maybe I’m kind of over my head a little. But if you... really have it all worked out. Like. If you really don’t ‘need’ need me to do stuff. I mean. It’d be kind of cool to just... step back for a while. You know?

Maybe we could do some more power-up things while laying low? There are all the wells we know our father had. If we could get those, or at least reach the ceiling for the amount of wells we can take on at once, then that should be enough to at least defend us for now.

That and his palace is probably warded as fuck. If we could warp in some Ferran gunships and just bombard his shit from orbit I'd be down with that but we don't have the gunships or a way to warp them in or anyone who knows how they work.

Maybe we don't need to stand in the spotlight, but something needs to get done. Seeking new allies, honing abilities and stockpiling ordinance.
>>
I'll say it again, I like the idea of trying to get that pompous dragon bitch and one of our other problems to murder each other.
>>
>>43123648
I agree. There is no clear best solution that will satisfy all or deal with each issue at hand.
>>
>>43123462
I'm seeing this as a chance to finally step up to the Imperiate mantle and/or visit Halth.

Both of which I'm very, very interested in.

>>
>>43123674

Not a bad idea.

>Hey, yeah, here's your coastal landwell. Now see those fishpeople? They want to take it from you.

And if she bitches about us pawning off an 'endangered' landwell on her, just tell her that we've been fighting them off of ours and if we can beat them, shouldn't she in her awesome power be able make short work of them?
>>
>>43123728
Or something about not wanting one in the middle of our territory, because we wouldn't want to impose on the mighty ossi, or whater overblown honorifics yu can think of.
>>
>>43123684
Getting a well in Halth would be nice. Being able to port between the planes would be good.

We know that our well on the mountain around here links up to hell if we do the plane shift thing but I don't think we can come back through that way. The Cerra well also links up to Ferra so we could pop over there maybe. They have all kinds of insane weapons we could try to steal. One of those lightning guns would be insanely good for shooting Sulkrasph's verwelken minions.
>>
>>43123783

Not only that, but have we been able to determine whether seabed counts as land?

>Just imagine, Ossifera. How many landwells are down there, past a bit of water and a few angry fish?

>>
>>43123728
She did specifically want one on the coast. It can't be helped that every well on the coast borders Hassatur's territory.
>>
>>43123840
>>43123674

I don't know if we should trust a Dragon to do anything. They are lazy and will flake on you if they are needed to do more work than pointing you to the right direction.

>>
“Guys. College can wait. I’m immortal. But if I get sliced up by hell riders or shadow assassins or something, I’m dead. Now’s not really the best time to back down,” you tell them.

“It’s a lot harder to project power over planes than you realize,” says Cassandra. “It takes real investment to move people and material to earth from hell. Here in San Francisco, we’re the ones calling the shots. No one, not even a demon lord, will waste resources on things that don’t further their interests.”

“I think Sulkrasph already demonstrated his ‘interest’ in making me join the dark side or die,” you say, firmly. “Sitting back and maxing relaxing is just as much making me a target as anything else now. And if I have to choose, I choose the thing that involves me actually trying to fix things instead of ignoring them.”

Isaac nods. You can tell he doesn’t exactly agree with you, but he respects your desire to take action. “If we’re going to do this then, we need to make sure we do it right,” he says. “The Conlcave needs outside support – support that’s untraceable. My contacts don’t work here. They’re through official channels.”

>"I'm already a target. The only viable option for me now is to become so strong nobody wants to fuck with me. And that means flexing a few times, showing off, and maybe a dead dragon or six. Everything else can wait until I'm sure it won't blow up around me just because I'm me. I've got a long, long time to work on this."
>>
>>43124100

You get that. But... well. You think you have some unofficial channels that maybe you can call on for help, maybe.

>I promised this dragon I’d give her a coastal well during my road trip. She probably would hate fish coming up out of the oceans as much as we do.
>There’s... Frederick and Zote. I helped them with their independence thing. Maybe they can help us out, too? They’ve got like. Laser guns and magicians and stuff.
>So. Just hear me out on this. But how feasible would it be maybe to go down to Mardusia and kill Sulkrasph? Just hypothetically speaking.
>There’s a... well I promised not to say too much about him. But I know a guy who the Yellow King doesn’t get along with. He’s the dude that found me when I wound up in Canada that one time.
>Ranthix can get help. He’s like, alpha Thul’tal. Maybe he could go down to hell, round up a posse, and come back up here with the muscle?
>Maybe it’s about time I do some of my own politics and stop letting other people muck around with me. I speak Heltic. I’m badass. Maybe I should see about talking to some demon lords myself.

I think these are most applicable on the long run though I don't want really pull Roger in to things he doesn't want to deal with.
>>
>>43124121
Let's just bring all of them up and see what they have to think.

I don't know if Frederick brings enough on board to outweigh making enemies of the Eclipse too, but he knows stuff about interplanar wars that might be helpful.

Wouldn't want to bring Roger against Sulkrasph, not his fight, but we could team up against Hassatur.

Ossifera is probably going to backfire hard, but hey, it's an idea.

Relying on Ranthix even more than we already are wouldn't make us look powerful and imperiate-y. Maybe we can rally them all to us before we actually invade hell to become in the imperiate.

“I know a couple people that might be able to help out, at least with the fish thing,” you say.

“Who are these people, exactly?” asks Isaac, frowning.

You take a breath and go on. “I promised not to say too much about him. But I know a guy who the Yellow King doesn’t get along with,” you say. “He’s the dude that found me when I wound up in Canada that one time.”

“The landmaster,” he says, nodding thoughtfully. “How powerful is he?”

“I think... maybe probably something like I am,” you say. “Except... he knows how to deal with freaky fish stuff.” Because he is also a freaky fish.

Cassandra seems surprised by this. “Are you sure he’s as strong as you? It might not seem like it sometimes, but the kind of power you have is very, very rare.”

Given that Roger’s dad may or may not be an eldritch space alien god, you don’t have much doubt in that department. “He’s legit,” you say.

Isaac considers this. “Then he might be able to help with the Yellow King, if he’s willing to stick his neck out for us. Eventually Hassatur will make his move. If we strike back at the right place, at the right time, we’ll push him back into his domain. Is that boy willing to stick up for others?” he asks.

“I’ll... have to ask him about it,” you say.

“That’s a good place to start,” says Cassandra.

You think some more. “You know, there’s this dragon too. I kind of promised her a landwell on the beach? I might be able to talk her into helping us stand up against the Yellow King when the time comes, too.”

Isaac gives a humorless laugh. “I wouldn’t be so quick to trust a dragon,” he says. “They’re vain, selfish creatures. But... if she’ll help us... I’m willing to speak to her. What’s her name?”
>>
>>43124830

“Ossifera?” you say, questioningly.

Isaac gives a heavy sigh. “Oh.”

“You know her?”

He nods, unamused. “Ossifera has a way of turning petty grudges into F4 tornados. It might not be in the city’s best interests to call her in as the cavalry.”

“We might not have very much time to get ready,” says Cass. “It’ll be more useful if you focus on mastering the power you already have, rather burning up too much time arguing disparate groups together somehow.”

Speaking of more power. There’s that landwell that you didn’t claim, the one with some kind of great spirit attached to it. Maybe that’s something you could pursue instead? Like. If it’s not just a regular landwell, but it somehow gives you some invisible battle buddy, maybe you’ll be able to start hitting way above your weight class.

Hey Languid, I was unclear on something. Do we know how to teleport/planeshift other people and large-ish objects through wells with us or can we only go solo with light gear? Easily moving people and goods between planes and large distances would make a huge difference in how we go about mustering forces.
>>
>>43124904

You can teleport with pretty much yourself and whoever you're touching. But if you gate a well over to its corresponding position on another plane, you can pretty much drive anything you want through.
>>
>>43124934
Aight, thanks.

Can we gate to a well from the corresponding position or can we only gate to the corresponding position from the well?

Like, the San Bruno well and that cold as fuck spot in Halth that Philo sent us to. Could we go from Halth to SB or does it only work from SB to Halth?
>>
>>43124962

You can open gates from either side, though there is only a landwell on one side.

>You remember that well on San Bruno Mountain? It links up to Halth. Moving around between here and there might be useful it the Halth side is a good location.

Oh, idea. Probably a horrible idea, but here we go... Dad's mirror portal thing led to somewhere. It might have been that between realm place that the goblins like, but I have a feeling that it might have been Verwelkia with how creepy and shadowy everything there was. Probably would have better odds with Ossifera, but Sulk and Fish would be jolly well boned if we could set an army of spoopy scary shadow monsters on em.
>>
Just a thought, but if things go hot in San Francisco it might be a good idea to pick up some cannon fodder. Anyone thinking recruiting Sierra's old gang is a good idea?

“I need to talk to Borislav, I think,” you say. “There’s this spirit of Lake Eerie or something. Maybe I can like. Get supercharged. Nobody wants to mess with Native American spirit magic.” Or was it Lake Superior? You’d be able to point it out on a map, but sometimes you’re not good with names.

“The spirit whose anchor well you found in Pukaskawa National Park?” asks Isaac.

“That’s the one,” you say, snapping.

He shakes his head. “That might be too risky.”

“Yeah, duh, that’s why I talk to Borislav about it,” you say. “Moriah and her dad know a ton about spirits too. The idea is that I do my homework so it’s not risky, and then pow, we got like, some demi-elemental on our side.”

Isaac and Cassandra exchange a look, and Cass addresses you. “That... could help. But then you’re putting yourself even more in the spotlight than before,” she says. “We don’t want you to win this fight just to attract bigger, more dangerous fights. You do understand how dangerous the forces we’re dealing with here are?”

>That’s why I have to put my foot down. I’m not Corithis. I have to fight my own battles eventually.
>Look Cass. I know that maybe Sulkrasph and fish-face had something to do with what happened to the last Imperiate. I can’t let them scare me off at the first little thing.
>Don’t worry about it. I’ve been dealing with BS crap out of my league my whole life. This is just... not even surprising anymore.
>Yeah, I don’t like it. But I can’t just run off like you want me to, okay? This is my life. If I’m going to die or something, I don’t want to be stupid about it.
>You guys, you just worry about what you worry about. Let me deal with the whole landwell magic landmaster business. I know more about it than you give me credit for.
>Well we don’t want to lose this fight either. Sometimes you just got to step it up.
>Say what you want, I’m going to go talk this over with Borislav tomorrow. If this can work, I’ll make it work somehow. That’s just what I do.

Cassandra winces, but Isaac remains firm. “Sierra. I’m proud of how well you’ve been doing this past year. You’ve really growing into a wonderful young woman,” he says. “But this... frankly, it’s out of the ballpark from what you’ve been facing before. You’re going to be throwing yourself in deep waters without knowing how to swim.”

You scowl at the metaphor. “Hey. I’ve been dealing with BS crap out of my league my whole life,” you say angrily. “This is just... not even surprising anymore. Nothing’s ever on my side. Say what you want, but I’m talking with Borislav tomorrow. I’ll figure it out, and I’ll make it work somehow. That’s just what I do.”

“Sierra, you don’t... need to do this,” says Cass, worry oozing from her. “I know you think you do, but you don’t.”

Isaac, though, is more grave. “You’re an adult now. I can’t make your decisions for you. If this is your choice... then it’s what we’ll do.”

>Hell yes it is. I literally just spent like five minutes telling you why I’m going to do it.

You fold your arms. “This is what’s best,” you say. “So... stop worrying so much. It’s creeping me out.”

Cassandra laughs lightly, covering up her reservation with your decision, though obviously she knows you can still feel it in her. “We’re your parents,” she says. “It’s our job to creep you out.”

You shiver to yourself. “Ugh. Can we like... be done now?”

“I think so,” says Isaac. “I have any other reasons to make you suffer any longer.”

You remember a hot moment with Wolfgang, and feel the color drain from your face. “Uh. Right. Emergency family meeting adjourned.” You escape quickly and flee to your room.

You inch your wings under your covers and lie awake, staring at the ceiling.

Things are getting out of control. There’s a lot of stuff going on right now, and the weight of it all is starting to freak you out. Sulkrasph and Hassatur and Ushologuissa and Wolfgang. Wolf. What'd you do to him? Or what'd he do to you? You don't know.

There's too much to think about. You need to make a plan.

We need to ask Xan about blood oath. We need to delegate more shit, but to do that we need to trust more people to a larger degree. And just starting to be more trusting is a very easy way to get killed. Blood oath, or some other way to make our subjects more loyal or maybe make Sierra better at detecting deception and disloyalty, is our best bet i think.

Whew, I'm here a bit late.

>>
>>43126833

The problem with bortherhoods/cults/commitees is that they'll happily support you as long as you do exactly what they tell you to do. I don't think they would jump at a chance to support someone who isn't 100% under their control.
>>
>>43126919
And a huge problem with the shadowbloods specifically is that they don't want it known that they even exist.
>>
>>43126947
>>43126919
Yeah, but they'll have to deal with the Ranthix of Vengeance +The Hollows + The Magister etc. if they take us out directly. Which isn't to say it would threaten their power, but it sure would fuck up their secrecy.

Besides, we have to get allies anyways, and if we don't approach them then they sure as fuck will be against us. Especially as we gain power.

I'm just saying, we know who our Mom's allies were. But what about our Dad's? Let's take control of this instead of just reacting to what other people do.
>>
>>43126947
Another problem is that one of our chief allies has a huge grudge against them for murdering his racist father.
>>
>>43127029
Which one was that again? Anyways, sometimes you have to wait to find out who made the call to do that and strip the flesh from their bones and the soul from their body and keep it as a bauble that you occasionally play with.

But don't blame all the shadowbloods.

I don't think he knows, though. If he did he probably wouldn't have been so freaked out by a single gangland execution he yesterday.
>>
Well. First things first. You need to talk to Borislav. He knows about elementals and natural magic and stuff. And he’s the only one who actually has a clue when it comes to landmasters and landwells. After that, you’ll need to talk to the Crowthers. Moriah and her dad. But... also Wolf. And... yeah you need to figure that out.

Mori said something about some library, so maybe you’ll hit up some books with her. Or maybe you need to talk to Ranthix and get this whole mess sorted out.

You’ll do it tomorrow.

Tomorrow comes early. You couldn’t sleep very well.

You take off on your own and head into the city to get your bike. Fortunately it’s where you left it, none the worse for wear. You have to be smarter about this kind of thing in the future. You didn’t plan ahead.

But now you are. Riding across the empty Golden Gate on your kind of crappy motorcycle, you know you’re taking matters into your own claws.

It’s misty and bitterly cold. Fortunately you’ve got a slick leather SS coat to make up the difference. You could totally join a biker gang right now.

You drive into your woods, immediately getting off the main roads and relying on the ranger roads. You’ve been here enough to know your way around, and having an intrinsic connection to the land beneath your tires gives you a better sense of direction than a GPS ever could.

Borislav is always up early, and you called ahead, so you know where he’s at. He’s doing some important meditation stuff up on some cool, wizardly overlook of Muir Woods. You drive and drive on, and get to the point where you have to turn off a real road and go onto a the gravel one that winds through the redwoods to go where you want.
>>
>>43127233
We should probably have that talk with him sooner rather than later.
>>
>>43127269

Except as you come around the bend on your bike, you spot a figure sitting in the middle of the fork – a woman – dressed in typical hiker’s gear, with boots, jeans, a black coat, and a black beanie. Her backpack rests on the ground by her side. She looks and feels normal at a glance.

She can’t keep all her secrets from you, though. She doesn’t belong here. She doesn’t bear the trace of the land on her, like most anybody else. Which likely means she came a long way to be here.

The hiker turns at the sound of your motor as you slow around the bend, and smiles at you. She has strong shoulders, a kind of broad nose, and a generally squarish, though pretty, face. She has long blonde hair knotted up in a single thick braid.

“Good morning, little mouse!” she calls out in a light tone, waving. Cheerfully.

You kind of have a miniature heart attack at the phrase, and almost fall off your bike. You haven’t been called that since – since your dad... since the last time you saw him.

>Slam on the breaks. Stop before you get too close to this woman or thing or whatever.
>Hit the accelerator, gun it past her. Everything’s going to be find if you get to Borislav.

Isaac holding it against sierra that her dad was a nazi (douche move no matter who you are), isn't quite the same as being a bit anxious at her actually being a shadow monster. You gun it straight for her. If she knows anything, and if she’s a threat, you need to get her off balance.

Her smile wanes, and she seems disappointed as you rocket toward her. She steps to the side and you turn to meet her, but then she... kind of jumps a few feet further forward than she should have?

You spin out on the road and glare at her, ready for anything. “Who are you?” you shout.

The woman turns around, dusting herself off from the dust you kicked up. “I am a friend of your father’s,” she says, smiling brightly again. “You look just like him you know, wearing that coat. Your faces have very similar shapes.”

You blink incredulously at her. “What?!”

The woman gives you a more serious look. “Sierra, I want to help you,” she says. She twitches suddenly, and then she is standing a few feet to the right of where she’d been a second before. She gives you an embarrassed smile, as if she’d accidentally spilled a drink, but shakes her head and resumes her serious expression. “You are in grave trouble.”

There’s something... off about the woman. It’s almost an effort to focus your eyes on her. Like there’s some kind of invisible haze between you and her that you can’t quite make out.

But did she really know your dad? Because... you are looking for help right now. But she recognizes the coat. That could mean something.

>Answer the question. Who are you?

She isn't from this plane. I almost fell for it and thought she was an old nazi shadowblood buddy of dad's or something, but odds are she's one of Sulk's minions.

She fits the kind of minions of both Sulkrasph and Hastur would send after us and she made sure to confront us isolated alone in the woods. She's also demonstrated knowledge on par with that which Hastur has demonstrated. She's sketchy as fuck in her magical signature and she showed up immediately after shit with our enemies started to intensify.

She has done nothing to be trusted. And before you even say "danger ring ain't buzzing" remember that Lucifer never set it off either even when he tried to grind us up with his umbrakinetic woodchipper spell.

You push aside your coat so you can get a hand on your holster, ready to rev up your bike at a moment’s notice or shoot her, or whatever else you need to do. “Answer the question,” you growl. “Who are you, and why should I trust anything you say?

Her smile starts to lose strength at your suspicion. “Hildegard Vetenkamp,” she says with a trace of an accent, holding her hands palm up in a peaceful gesture. “I worked together with David. He was a very good man - very proud, very stern. He treated us with utmost respect. He saved my life – I always swore I would return the favor. You are all that is left of him. Please. I can help. I really can,” says Hildegard, smiling again.

“Look,” you say, scowling, “if you're here to tell me someone else wants me dead, they'll have to get in line. I've got a fish guy, demons, maybe a dragon, I don’t even know anymore.”

“Yes, there actually is one more thing that will seek to kill you,” says Hildegard, her expression losing its brightness. “I’ve taken to calling it ‘Cadwyn’. Sulkrasph thinks that he controls it, but he does not understand what it is. He busies himself too much with legacies and heirs. But for now -” she shifts a couple feet backward, looks down at herself with annoyance, and steps back into place “- I worry more about Sulkrasph and the Puppetmaster.”
>>
>>43128324
Asking her a question isn't trusting her She hasn't done anything hostile, we can at least hear her out before we start deciding that she's a threat.
>>
>>43128324
problem is "fits the type of minions" is a little too broad, most demons would generally need some level of subtlety in order to not get caught by the marshals.

“So what’s your grand advice then?” you ask. “What’s your silver bullet for the whole thing?”

Hildegard chooses her wording carefully. “There are two ways, but I do not think you will take either,” she says. “The Yellow King will accept the starspawn Roger in exchange for your lands. Sulkrasph will relent, but only should you join him.”

“Those are both cruddy silver bullets,” you say. You scowl, then. “You know. I actually do think I recognize you. I saw a photo of you with David’s stuff,” you tell her, dispassionately. “Your face was kind of burned out, though.”

Hildegard’s attitude falters at this. “Not... all of us were so swift as David in sensing that history was not on our side,” she says.

Maybe this lady’s not pure evil. But she certainly is shady as hell. “What’s your weirdness, then?” you ask. “You can barely stay in one spot. You got ADHD or something?”

She briefly goes out of focus, like the camera of life is trying to adjust itself to her position. “I made poor decisions,” she says cryptically, furrowing her brow at you. She leans down and scoops up her backpack, shouldering it. “It distresses me that I have nothing more for you, but you are too much like your father. I do not want you to think of poorly of me for prompting you toward compromise.” She sounds a little sad about this, but seems unwilling to let it show.

>Kind of interesting that out of all the people who knew my dad, you’re the only one who knows that he’s dead.

Racial affinity and above average knowledge does not a 2 timeskip phylactery make.

And it'd be better to go with someone who's an expert on spirits since what we'd likely want to do is anchor our soul into our well network the way spirits do.
