Sirens in the street. Shouting from the bar underneath my office. This city's like a bad dream. I've been in it too long with nothing to show for it but an ulcer the size of the moon.

My name's Brickman. I used to be a cop. Maybe not a good cop, but a decent one, anyway. Until I looked under the wrong rock, made some enemies with the wrong people.
>>
I have a rule against drinking during work hours, but today wouldn't be the first time it gets broken and business is as dry as my glass. I'm about to pour myself a stiff one when someone knocks on the door, twice. First hard, then softer, hesitatingly.

"Come in."

"Mr. Brickman?"

When she walks in the door I have to restart my breath. She carries herself like someone not used to being ignored, but there's a fear in her eyes that I can see even through the high-society mask.

"That's me. Something I can do for you?"

"My name is Rose Huntington. I need you to find someone for me."

"Have a seat."

She tells me her sister went missing a week ago. The two of them were heirs to an industrial fortune until it collapsed and took their father with it. Since then they'd been living like the rest of us as best as they could. From the looks of it, they'd been doing about as well as me.

"I went to her apartment and everything was where it should be, except for her. I went to the police, but you know what they're like."

"I know about the police."

When I went back after that, there were some men there. I don't think they were policemen. I didn't like the way they looked." She breaks off her gaze to look down and her fingers fumble to grip her purse. "They told me I couldn't go in, that the apartment was being renovated. When I told them I was her sister and needed to collect her things, they wanted me to come with them. After that I've been sure I've seen them other places. I feel like I'm going crazy, that I'm being paranoid, but I'm not!"

"What's your sister's name?"

"I can't promise anything."

She looks at me and holds back tears. "I just want to know what happened to her, Mr. Brickman."

First, CALL THE POLICE. Do not leave the crime scene. You're in the right, and you have a witness.

Two, treat your wound. Preferably with some rotgut. Maybe a bandage, too.

Finally, search the stiff for clues. If you find anything, remember to put it back before the cops arrive.

There are a ton of Easter eggs in this episode, so let's just jump in with the most obvious one. As someone already mentioned, this game is based around the Detective's Office Creator set. I had been wanting this since it was first leaked, but I didn't think I'd be able to justify it until I got a nice bonus. I put it together the week before last - I had wanted to run this last week but I didn't have it built by game time.

I'm going to do a review of it on /toy/ sometime soon, but for now I'll just say that it's fantastic. The scenes in Ace's office and the safehouse were both shot inside this set. The walls are built to be more or less one removable section, which really helped with shooting inside, as I could just pop off the walls that I needed to shoot past.

The reason the last scene took so long to shoot was because I stopped to rebuild this taxi. It had been modded for the After the Brick game, so I had to more or less rebuild it from scratch based on a picture I had taken of it previously.

But then I ended up not shooting very much of it, so it may or may not have been worthwhile. IN ANY CASE...

Also noted earlier, the city skyline has made another appearance. The sticky-tack wasn't cooperating last night and the posterboard kept falling down, so a few buildings got ripped. I should replace them some time, but I probably won't get around to it anytime soon.

My favorite MOC prop of the night is definitely this fire extinguisher. I made it for a different game but I thought it fit perfectly in this setting.

My second-favorite is the velvet rope outside of the Midnight Club. When I was putting the outside together, I went through three different concepts, none of which looked very good, before I remembered that I had this Technic hose that snugly fits inside a System piece.

There's a little inside joke with Rose. For those not familiar with the Creator line, their minifigs all have the classic plain smiley face instead of the more detailed modern faces, hence why Rose has the face she does. In the Detective's Office set, she's referred to as "The Lady in Red".

Hah, I was wondering why she had the plain smiley face. I was beginning to think she was a trap.

Before I had settled on the aesthetic, I was planning on making what would eventually become the Midnight Club as a modern-ish strip club with a pole. I put together a couple of concept models of stages before scrapping the whole idea and going with the Greek-themed pageantry look.

Now that that's out of the way, time to answer all those questions that I had to ignore earlier!

>I wonder what would of happened if you'd done a black and white filter for the whole thing, give it the authentic film noir feel.
I did some test shots in grayscale, but I didn't like it as much as in color, and I wanted Rose's outfit to stand out to keep her "the lady in red".

>Where'd you get that city backdrop? I could've sworn it was actual cutouts from the pictures.
It is a cutout. I printed a vector city backdrop on 11x17" paper, cut out the skyline with an X-Acto knife, and taped it to the black sheet of posterboard.

>For a minute I thought this would be linked to Red's story.
When I first came up with the idea for this game, I thought about setting it in Red's city and having a bunch of superhero stuff going on in the background and Ace "keeping it real" with street-level crime, but then I changed my mind.

>This, at least a comic book in the style of After the Brick
I don't know... it seems like removing the players' posts would lose a lot of the fun, and reworking them in a format more suitable for print is a pretty daunting idea.

Last week, a very talented artist on /tg/ drew a picture of Cassiopeia in a drawthread. I had to put it on the wiki as soon as I saw it.

Speaking of, I'd better put in my usual shill:

If you missed an episode or want to read it again, most previous episodes of Lego Quest are archived on suptg along with all the images:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=lego%20quest

The official Lego Quest Wiki has a bunch of great art that people have done of characters, and a bunch of other weird stuff:

And if you follow me on Twitter you'll get notified whenever a new episode starts or resumes:

>Please consider using webm for those long animations.

I tried to make it a webm when I first made it, but I don't know what I'm doing and kept getting an error at the end of the process, so I just gave up and made a gif in GIMP.
