You are Shane Morris. It is now summer, and unlike your classmates you have not left Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This is because you are now a ward of the school, until treason charges clear against your guardian Hugh Byrne.

You thought the castle felt empty during winter holiday, but this is something entirely new. There's nobody. You can wander the castle all day without seeing a single person, though you rarely get the chance. Professor Morse has been drilling you with DADA practice every chance she gets.

There are some other students here, you see the at meals, and sometimes when you hang around near their dorms. Two Hufflepuffs and a Gryffindor, all older than you by a bit.

Hogwarts is, for once, boring. There is so little to do, especially knowing that your every move is being watched for any wrong doing.

You decide to go talk to Morse, maybe settle something about the prophecy, or at least figure out why she's so into helping you all of a sudden.

You walk to her office and knock on the door. Presently is opens and you let yourself in. She's sitting at her desk waiting.

“Yes, Mr. Morris?”

“Professor, I came because I had a few questions for you. About... the school year, and everything that happened.”

She indicates a chair across from her and you take a seat.

>Try and slyly ask her about the prophecy

Power gives you more health and makes your spells more powerful
Spirit makes you more charismatic, and more resistant to mental attacks. It also gives you perks.
Finesse makes you better at potions, flying and dodging.
Intelligence improves studying, grades and spellcasting.

Forgot to change the casting stuff. Was mostly focused on updating the spell list and skills.

Also cool to see you in the thread, I know you showed up last thread but I didn't get a chance to say hi.

“In the forest..” You start.

She stops you. “Lombarde Borde. He was perhaps not the best student in my class, but he was perhaps the best out of his family I've ever taught. When he arrived I expected a haughty pureblood with a taste for the dark arts. In part I was right, the haughtiness was there, but he didn't ever push the material in a dark direction. Then this past year began, and he changed, from the prodigal son into a pariah of his family. I never thought for a moment it might be a bad thing for him to grow distant from them.”

She sits back in her chair for a second to collect her thoughts.

“When you caught him in that blood ritual, that was the first time I believed he could turn dark. What I saw of him in that forest was beyond belief.”

“What did you see?”

“Shane, I didn't kill Lombarde that night in the forest. I killed something he created. And the fact that he was strong enough to create it, at his age? I have no doubt that he is still out there. Waiting. I don't know what for, but in all my years on this planet, I have never been more frightened of anything.”

"How much does the Ministry know, and what did they rip from Jenny's mind? I'm young, not stupid, professor."

Let's see how much we can freely talk about; we're obviously bugged.
>>
There is a long silence.

“How much does the Ministry know? What did they get from Jenny?”

She sighs. “I don't know, Shane. The Ministry and the School aren't the same institution, and the things I used to be privy to are someone else's job now. They could have gotten everything. Or they could have gotten nothing. I just don't know. My question to you is, what does she know that you wouldn't want someone at the Ministry knowing?”

“I can't say. But it's what we were there for. Jenny could tell you more.”

“Okay, you don't have to tell me anything. But I do want to help you Shane, I really do.”

“Why? Why did you save me from the Ministry? What are you getting out of this?”

“When you're an auror for as long as I was, saving people becomes second nature. There is no why, they beat that out of you in basic training. As for you specifically, maybe a little bit of it was to spite Byrne, but mostly because I think when you saved Ms. Black, every good thinking person in the wizarding world felt a little bit of hope for you.”

Second.
>>
“Can you teach me some defensive spells?”

“I suppose I could, certainly. Something to keep you busy for the summer. Come to my office on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2.”

“Yes, Professor.”

You start your lessons the next day, and with the one on one focus you learn faster than you ever learned in school. In only a few weeks you have the Stunning Spell down pat. And you start work on the next spell.

You have a lot of free time.

You take time not spent with the Professor to study. Mostly potions, but sometimes other things that hold your attention. A lot of people complain about school being boring. They've never had to spend a summer there alone. It's agonizing. And everyday you're counting down to the start of the term.

You take the time to write to your friends, who all seem to be having a lot more fun than you oddly enough. Linus is on holiday in the Caribbean with his family, and of course Jenny is out of the country with her folks. You consider for a second asking if you can talk to Morse about the prophecy.

>>
You write Jenny a letter asking if you can talk to Morse about the prophecy.

Jenny always takes forever to write back, maybe because it's international, or maybe just because she's being careful, but regardless, two weeks late you get a response.

“Dear Shane,

I'm sorry to hear it's so boring at school. I suppose there is only so much studying you can do before you want to have an actual person to talk to. Maybe when this all settles down you can come live with me or Alex.

France is beautiful, at least where we are. In the cities it's a bit more hectic. There's a lot of talk of revolution. I don't think we'll be welcome back next summer. Even out in the country I see some veela or this or that goblin running around with letters and sometimes even weapons. The UK isn't the only place with problems it seems like.

As to sharing our secret, you know how I feel. But at the same time, Morse is a teacher, and I'm far more inclined to trust her over Byrne and the Order. I'll leave it up to you, I trust your judgement.

Sincerely, Jenny Black”

The next day that you have a lesson with Morse you go to her office a bit early and knock.

“Mr. Morris, you're a bit early.” She says opening the door to let you in.

“I wanted to talk with you about something Professor.”

“And what is that?”

“Professor, what do you know about prophecies?”

“Ah, this. I was wondering if you'd talk to be about it at some point. I was beginning to think you hadn't figured it out.”

“Figured what out, Professor?”

“No, please continue with your thought.”

“When Jenny and I went to the Ministry, we went to find a prophecy, about her, but I guess also about me.”

“And you're not satisfied with what you learned?”

“I don't know Professor. I was hoping you could help me.”

“Would you mind telling me the prophecy then?”

You recite the prophecy you heard in the Department of Mysteries.

“Eight people. Four men, four women. Do you have any guesses as to who they might be? Obviously at least two are yourself and Ms. Black.”

“Lom, I think. And maybe you, after that, nothing I feel strongly.”

“Why me?” She asks genuinely confused.

“It makes sense doesn't it? At least a little bit? You've decided to try and save me, and I'm sure there's something you're haunted by. Someting that happened in the past, or even Lom out there in the forest. Aren't prophecies only made about people who are important?”

“Perhaps,” She says slowly. “But this isn't my specialty. You'd be better served taking this to someone who knows a bit more about prophecy. I won't speak of this to anyone, it seems you and Ms. Black are worried who might learn this prophecy, though I have no idea why. I would suggest you take a Divination course this year Mr. Morris, it may help in your ruminations on this subject.”

“That's it?”

“That's it. The only thing I've learned of prophecies in all my years, is to fear them. I'v eyet to see one with a good ending.”

Well that was a slow thread. Hopefully next week will be better. We'll be getting back into school proper and starting the story for the year.

Also Power won the most votes, so here is your new character sheet.

Remember @Tiddlybum_HE announces threads if you want to follow and play along live.

Thanks for reading.
